‘Venus Verticordia’ Venus, Changer of Hearts by DG Rossetti 1866 {{PD-Art}}

Venus will enter Libra at 8:37 AM Pacific time on the 16th. We tend to think of planets moving through a sign they rule as a really good place for them to be; they’re ‘at home’ and can express in their most characteristic fashion. Something we may not consider is that a planet in its own sign may be a little one-sided, showing a little too much of what are normally its positive characteristics, until these things usually seen as a plus become a caricature, or even a bludgeon, when interacting with other impulses. For instance, with Venus in Libra, we reach a height of well-mannered interaction, in terms of the general inclination of Venusian energies; but, in the extreme, these can be a mask for more genuine, conflicted, and powerful feelings. We could find that in wanting to get to the nitty-gritty in relationship we may run into a seamless wall of polite demurs and diplomatic non-answers. Nobody’s feelings were hurt, certainly a Venus in Libra goal, but neither did we see revealed any less-than-pleasant features of the state of our partnership; the encounter was probably lovely, and in the end meaningless, if Venus in Libra had her way and made the perception of perfect harmony more important that its reality.

Venus, like any body symbolic of certain energies, strives in any venue for her own particular brand of fulfillment. If we don’t acknowledge those less-attractive qualities that are just as much a part of her make-up as the more positive ones, we can end up seeing them express just as certainly as those more desirable ones, typically when, during a transit of her own sign, Venus finds expression of Venusian inclinations so so easy. Traveling through Libra, it is just as easy for Venus to display jealousy as it is to show Love, or to show a passive-aggressive bent in relationships as it is to show co-operation. During this transit of Libra, we may want to keep an eye on Venus, as she’ll be stressed by squares to Pallas, Jupiter, and Pluto, quincunxes to Chiron and Sedna, and an opposition to Uranus. All these contacts could bring out the darker side of Venus, oriented toward the kind of pressure she may feel. The opposition to Uranus, for example, may stress relationship dynamics and levels of co-operation, loyalty, and reliability of partners, as the uniqueness urge sings out and insists on rebellion and showing independence, whether that’s really a good idea or not. It’s always best to see the qualities symbolized by a planetary body as dimensional, and so having their own light and dark contrasts–and Venus is no exception.

‘A Fairy Under Starry Skies’ Luis Ricardo Falero c1875 {{PD-Art}}

For the 9th, from ECLIPSE:

1 PM PDT the Virgo Moon conjuncts Venus. A great time for socializing, but watch for emotional spending and being too critical in relationships (Virgo placement). 7 PM PDT the Moon trines Sedna, either effectively separating us from awareness of our own feelings or plunging us so deeply into them that looking out at the world will be like looking at daylight from the bottom of a well. Being too critical of ourselves and our choices is the danger at this time. Know that taking a harsh inventory won’t really reveal anything new, and will certainly depress both mood and motivation. Void begins at 7:29 PM PDT; the Moon enters Libra at 6:08 AM Pacific time August 10th.

10 August Willingness to Adjust is the name of the game today; the social circle must adjust to our empowerment efforts, and we to theirs, and communication is, off the bat, confusing, fanciful, misleading, creative, or deliberately deceptive–possibly in an attempt to ‘soften the blow’ or to gently lead us (and our energy) in another direction. With the Moon entering Libra, the impulse may be to partner-up, but it’s a day to work alone, or at least be willing to cut others a lot of slack in the communication arena, and avoid any important talks or making agreements at this time–they’ll almost certainly contain something unintended, or have hidden consequences. A good day for fiction writers, artists, and daydreamers. (Jupiter quincunx Juno, Mercury quincunx Neptune)

11 August is a day when healing is offered, relationships are tested, what’s wise must defend itself, and communications are curtailed, contained within formal boundaries, or unduly harsh–so don’t take the form messages and information arrive in to heart, but instead hear the message behind the words or deeds. 3 AM PDT the Moon is apex to a Finger of God with base of South Node-Chiron, and the Moon also forms a T-square by opposing Uranus and squaring Pallas. This may be a BIG moment of truth, as we are challenged to show that we are emotionally healed from past injury–and as well we are dared to rebel against what’s wise, and ruin it all. A testing point that can be a milestone, if we handle it correctly.

‘Phosphorus and Hesperus’ Evelyn Pickering de Morgan 1882 {{PD-Art}}

Venus as the Evening Star will brighten considerably between now and December, when she reaches maximum brilliancy at magnitude -4.9 (the lower the number, the brighter the object, with negative numbers the brightest). She’s designated the Evening Star right now (though at other times she’s the Morning Star) and is most visible just after sunset. The ancient Greeks actually saw her as two separate bodies, Phosphoros (‘Bringer of Light’) or Eosphorus (‘Bringer of Dawn’) and Hesperos (‘Evening Light’), until they eventually accepted the Babylonian assertion that what they were observing was really only one body, appearing different depending on her relationship to the Sun. Saturn, too, is visible at present, near the long handle of the Big Dipper and near Spica; Saturn can be distinguished by its golden hue, while Spica shines blue-white, like a good diamond. While Venus and Saturn can be seen evenings all through August, the morning sky shows, pre-sunrise, Mars, Jupiter, and Mercury (the latter for the first week or two of August, depending on your spot on Earth). Happy planet spotting!

We have our yearly show of the Perseids this month, peaking on the 11th, 12th, and 13th. This meteor ‘shower’ is really the debris from comet Swift-Tuttle, lighting up as it burns through the atmosphere; we (Earth) actually pass through the comet’s trail, making for a collision between our atmosphere and debris shed by this extraordinarily large comet (its nucleus is about 16 miles/ 26 kilometers across, where most others are only a few kilometers). Visibility actually began this year around 17 July, so if you’ve been out and about at night you may have observed a ‘shooting star’ or two that were probably part of this group, and the Perseids are known for the high number of ‘fireballs’ seen; the Perseids remain visible (but are seen with less frequency) through 24 August.

The New Moon in Leo 6 August 2013 at 2:50 PM Pacific time at 14 Leo 34: ‘Committing to Ourselves’

The Sabian for the NM is ‘A Pageant, With Its Spectacular Floats, Moves Along A Street Crowded With Cheering People’ This symbol depicts the spectacle of the Soul as it moves through life–the floats are our creations, our actions, the street our Path, the cheering crowd the Universe, the Souls who surround us, and those unseen who support us. It may seem like a silly and exclusive kind of symbol–how can every single person be their own parade?–but each person can, each person is worthy of such display, celebration, and support. Don’t deny this to yourself out of a false sense of modesty, or a fear of disapproval, but also don’t be so caught up in your own pageant that you deny support to others–nobody puts on a parade alone.

And here’s another view by the excellent Jude Cowell

2 August tempts us: we find our highest values in direct conflict with our empowerment options, we are being encouraged to ‘be ourselves’, to an almost outrageous degree, as well as to be thoroughly independent to the point of rebellion, to be overly sensitive, looking for ‘hurt’,  and we immerse ourselves in the man/ woman, yin/ yang play of energies splashing like happy dolphins. This is an atmosphere that could create just the right amount of stress + a dizzying kind of confidence, and, dopey as teenagers in love, we could be so high on that man/ woman spark (no matter our preferences) that we make some petty and Self-sabotaging moves, especially in relationships. We may glamorize the past in matters of Love and Money; our best bet to re-orient ourselves is to refresh consciously the highest values, what we find sacred, and our connection to home and mate–these are what matter, these are what last. (Vesta opposed Juno, Uranus trine Vesta, Venus sextile Mars)

Word Picture for Today 31 July 2013: ‘Light It Up’

This is the word image for today, found only in the Daily Word:

Today’s image is two live electric wires, loose from their connections, fallen in a puddle. We receive a tremendous shock if we jump in to a situation without knowing or caring about the history that created it; lacking respect for what came before, or for the players involved, brings a particular kind of hubris to the forefront–and we pay for it with the shock of rejection or with the startling realization that there’s a back story much more relevant than we might suspect.

‘View of the Theseion with the Acropolis in the Distance’ A remarkable photo by Moraites Petros 1870 {{PD}}

This is the aspect portion of the July 30th forecast in ECLIPSE; this is also part of what is included in the Daily Word, a one day ahead subscription service that sends the aspect and detailed, hour-by-hour Lunar forecast, plus the Daily Word Image, found nowhere else, directly to your email–subscribe today!

30 July  empowerment seems impossible to achieve with current life direction, restrictions that seem wise also make the option seem dull, beauty and reward require destruction or radical change in order to come about, and the social circle asks us to adjust our material orientation to what they want, not what we do. The contrariness of energies today may bring many of us to a standstill; those who can pull back a bit and take an objective view can, however, make significant personal progress–I say personal because the goals must mean something to us, which is what makes our objectivity meaningful–and it is in this ability to simultaneously hold two conscious points of view at one time that you’ll find the answers to today’s frustrating energy mix. Hint: committing to solid decisions, building things, and creating in your reality all directly and seriously affect the life path at this time–so be aware of this as you make choices. (Juno square the Nodes, Saturn trine Pallas, Venus trine Pluto, Earth quincunx Jupiter)

Thought I’d share the word image for the day; these are now a part of the Daily Word service, which delivers the forecast, plus these word-pictures which act as touchstones and synchronicity markers, one day ahead to your email.

The image for today is a chemistry set; if you understand that many things when combined are explosive, many corrosive, and that still others combine to make a third entity with entirely new properties, then you have the essence of what can happen with the Grand Sextile–mix elements with attention, care, and at least some fore knowledge of what they might create. There is also what I might call a competing image (two came to me at once) that may fit some of you better than the chemistry set: a box–it is small, shallow, and you’ll notice it continues the theme of containers that the previous two day’s symbols established. This suggests we may be trying to contain things that needn’t be contained (the shallowness of the box, its unsuitability to hold much at all). Let go of too tight a hold on detail, or on too-specific restrictions–they’re not needed.

'Girl with a Basket' Emile Munier 1875 {{PD-Art}}

‘Girl with a Basket’ Emile Munier 1875 {{PD-Art}}

For Friday the 26th:

the Moon enters Aries at 2:29 PM PDT. 8 PM Pacific time the Moon squares Pallas. Feelings may come into direct conflict with what we know is wise; at this time side with wisdom, as emotions are likely to be too headstrong and Willful. 10 PM PDT the Moon trines the Sun and semi-sextiles Neptune. This combo shows us what we feel through the gauze of illusion, vagueness, or misunderstanding; clear up your vision before drawing any conclusions. Just after 11 PM PDT the Moon becomes apex to a Finger of God with base of Saturn-Venus. Pinning down relationship ‘rules’, restricting spending, or realizing an artistic vision in concrete terms results in a sense of accomplishment and emotional satisfaction–so why wouldn’t you do it?

For Saturday the 27th:

Reality may seem harsh or unduly contrary, while secrets or buried treasure, info, or desires are revealed. There’s a bit of archaeology going on around the home front, or into the life of the mate, and we may find out things about those causes we’re dedicated to, or about those subjects we find sacred, that changes their status in our eyes permanently. Motives powered by the ego and the Will and hidden even from ourselves drive things, perhaps because there is a simultaneous reality check concerning life direction, and this may throw some into a panic, and others into action. (Pluto quincunx Vesta, Mars semi-square Sedna, opposed Pluto, Sun quincunx Neptune, Sun-Earth axis square Saturn)

And for Sunday the 28th:

Today sees a lovely, sparkly sextile of Venus to Jupiter, and we get a beautiful basket of ‘maybe’ delivered to our door–it’s up to us to make something of this, or we could just float through the day socializing pleasantly but doing little else. With some effort and direction on our part this aspect can result in an influx of Money, resources, or Love in many forms, but it can also see these things go out the door just as easily. We can spend too freely or commit resources to the social circle or to expansion efforts, and we may do so without regard to whether we can actually afford it. We do, however, understand the worth of knowledge, education, in-place hierarchies, having a viable life philosophy, and travel, so could make excellent plans at this time–just wait ’til later to buy the ticket.

Aquarius Full Moon 22 July 2013: ‘Liminal Genius’

'Heaven' (detail) from the work of Andrea Mantegna c1470 {{PD-Art}}

‘Heaven’ (detail) from the work of Andrea Mantegna c1470 {{PD-Art}}

This is, with some modifications and parts removed, from the current ECLIPSE, which features an analysis of the Full Moon Sabians, as well:

This Full Moon (22 July 2013 11:15 AM Pacific time at 00 Aquarius 05) will be important in several ways, the most significant of which is the way it pinpoints the time when we should move to actualize those dreams and goals we’ve been mulling over the length of the Grand Water Trine and Mercury cycle. The days just before the Full Moon will act as a window when we should definitively act to make those dreams real, with the FM showing either the initial material result, or closing out one stage and ushering in the next step–but in any case, showing us the extent and condition of our progress. We can act in a way that is both highly effective and sharply focused on our goal, but there are a couple of conditions that must be met: one is that our emotions must support what we’re choosing–and if you’ve experienced any kind of digestion, illness, or assimilation issues (and I would give these a broader definition, to include social situations, as well) during the retrograde then you are almost certainly giving yourself the message that there’s something in the plan that’s literally ‘indigestible’,  in other words, something you can’t (or shouldn’t, for your emotional health) live with.

Besides acknowledging any physical difficulties that may be giving us messages about our current situation, we must also do something to address the issue; this requires we do the symbolic thinking necessary, and then find ways to change circumstances so that they are acceptable. It’s very likely that the circumstances we are being ‘told’ (by our bodies) to change are things we are stubbornly insistent on keeping in our lives–I say this because otherwise the body wouldn’t have had to go so far to get our attention. Consider that what you say you want to do may not go forward unless you accept the need for change, and then make those changes. Here we must face our true intentions: if we do not modify situations as per the physical/ real world messages, we lose the chance at the dream, at least for now. How does that make you feel? Is it enough to move you forward, or are you in the process of abandoning that goal, consciously or not?

The Full Moon occurs at 00 Aquarius 05, putting us exceptionally early in the Aquarian experience; a FM at such a point suggests a kind of proto-knowledge, a liminal genius, of sorts, accompanies the experience. We are to look within for that spark of originality that encompasses the Aquarian higher mind without technically being aware of it! This may sound like quite a feat, but will actually occur naturally for each of us, likely in matters of the natal House with Aquarius perched on the cusp. This represents a kind of personal ouroboros, as we simultaneously conclude something Capricornian (so perhaps related to current Plutonian struggles, or to matters of the House with Cappy on the cusp), and embrace an inception so new it’s like a twinkle in the eye of the Universe. Due to surrounding influences, we can’t yet encode what’s happening in a thought, or put it into words; we are left with the option of going it alone, as a renegade, or gravitating to a like-vibration group, though no one there will be ready to put it into words, either.

The Full Moon is the apex of a sturdy Finger of God, with base of Venus-Pallas. All the energies in this configuration are at 00 degrees; this hints at (again) both the unconscious nature of the expression and the newness of the energies in these positions. We may find that smart occurrences surrounding Love or Money may be involved in the Full Moon realization, as may  practical skills applied to earning and/ or wisdom in or from relationships. That brilliant spark results from the Venus-Pallas co-operation–and we are successful, if we do not succumb to envy, jealousy, or an attitude that is not oriented toward ‘taking care of business’ (Pallas).
