No matter what you do or don’t celebrate, it’s the holiday season–there’s no way to avoid it. In the newsletter I shared a few tongue-in-cheek suggestions for how to survive this annual time of family, food, fights, fun, fruitcake, and all those other ‘f’ words, and I’ll be sharing a little advice for each sign, one at a time. Your Nemesis, listed at the end of the sign, suggests who might be out to sabotage or just give you a hard time, while your angel is the sign energy you can call on in others for assistance, and your personal elf or cherub is the sign energy that will cheer you up and work behind the scenes to make your holiday special. Watch for the rest of the signs during the coming weeks.

Leo  You sparkle at the holidays; is that your fault? No, it isn’t, and the truth is, it’s just too bad that others think you’re showing off. How, then, can you get along better with people at this most special time of year? Just don’t be so fabulous, for one thing, and for another, don’t breeze into a room and come across as if others are there to do your bidding (Aries, are you listening?) Most of the unpleasantness that comes at you this time of year centers in others’ perceptions that you gad about like royalty and don’t do any actual work–but nothing could be further from the truth–you can’t help it if you’re well-organized, know precisely what needs to be done, and that you look perfectly manicured at all times, giving the impression that you’ve never washed a dish in your life. When you follow your own inclinations you behave as if holiday season is party season 24/7–and that means you put on your party face all the time, hiding the fact that you’ve been hard at work, and engendering a lot of resentment in the process. Let other people know you’re human, and it’ll go a long way toward winning their support. It may sound contrary, but instead of your usual and very generous attempts to present others with a dazzling and fully prepared holiday, sparkling with gold and silver holiday sizzle, you might want to let them in on the prep you usually do out of their sight–ask them to help wrap gifts or make your famous pies, and do it in casual attire and a minimum of make-up or hair product–it’s not a competition, after all–save your big, bedazzled persona for the actual gathering–they’ll love you for it, and be awed by the transformation from normal, attractive person to stunner–and getting that glorious reaction is what it’s all about, isn’t it? Your Nemesis this holiday season: Cancer, Virgo, or Aquarius/ Your secret angel: Aries/ Your own personal elf or cherub: Sagittarius

Just a Little Essence for Today 12 December 2011: ‘Demur–or Agree to Disagree’

Toulouse-Lautrec 1894 {{PD-Art}}

7:30 PM PST sees the Cancer Moon trine Ceres, oppose Venus, and quincunx the Sun. Here we may be too co-operative with those in authority, Mom, or Mother Nature, and as a result we anger our internal anima and insult our very Soul. That’s dramatic, but too much compromise will harm the sense of integrity in some fundamental, Soul-deep way. Agree with caution; better yet, demur, or agree to disagree.

Gemini Full Moon and Total Lunar Eclipse 10 December 2011: ‘The Game’

'Card Game' Rombouts {{PD-Art}}

The 10th sees a Total Lunar Eclipse (Full Moon) at 18 Gemini 10 at 6:35 AM PST (with the eclipse following soon thereafter). Using our strict 2 degree orb, we have only two aspects, to Venus and Ceres, aside from the opposition to the Sun, but we’ll be adding a third in a bit (available in the newsletter)–first, let’s look at these strongly female-oriented energies as they connect to a ‘moment of completion’ involving a principle symbol of woman, the Moon. This suggests a culmination point of immense  power, as the Earth, balanced exactly between Moon and Sun in alignment, blocks the Sun from offering light to the Moon–and thus the Moon cannot perform her usual reflective function. She is prevented from her usual method of taking in animus light and shining it back into the Universe. Receptivity involves being open and willing to take in another’s assertive (animus) energy as one’s own; it’s a stance that requires a certain ability to put the Self to the side and use one’s own energy to support another–but what does the Moon do when she is not receiving the light of the dominant Sun?

Our clue is in the aspects this Full Moon/ eclipse makes; the energies it touches tell us the character the Full Moon will adopt when her typical way of relating is unavailable to her. The quincunx to Venus says that relationships, assets, or finances must be adjusted to the circumstances presented at the Full Moon; the square to Ceres says that authorities may be involved, but in particular, one’s own authority may be tested, perhaps in a contest between those ‘in charge’ and ourselves. But, when we consider that the Moon, a normally nurture and maternally focused energy, is in a tense situation with Ceres, a light bulb may go on: our maternal role, instincts, nurture function, or relationship to external maternal energies may present a conflict (the square) with another entity’s instinctive, maternal, or power role that is a culmination of some situation, likely long-brewing, over territory, responsibility, or influence. By removing, in a sense, the influence of the Solar orb, Moon/ Ceres energies that might typically be overshadowed by assertive ones can come out to play–if we can consider some serious sorting out of power positions a game!

All the above is from the newsletter. To see the material on that third, slightly larger orbed aspect, and to read about the Sabians for this Full Moon/ Eclipse, please subscribe, or try ECLIPSE by purchasing a single, current issue, which contains the Full Moon analysis, here–Thanks!

Cancer  Your idea of the perfect holiday is cocoon-like: everyone you love, enwombed with plenty of delicious things to eat and drink, and a constant togetherness that synchronizes breathing, cycles, and heartbeats. So what spoils your holiday? It starts well enough, with everyone eager to gather, visions of the endless sugar-plums you’ll lovingly prepare and feed them dancing in their heads; but then people begin to show a pesky independence that features differences in opinion and doing whatever they want, even leaving! The hurt inflicted on you over the holiday is likely one of two kinds: a feeling that your efforts aren’t appreciated, and a lack of co-operation by others. You’ve got to admit that your expectations, whatever form they take, may be just a tish unreasonable; you’re basically out to create a single, multi-headed organism out of family and friends, and it hurts that they resist and even show they have minds of their own. Everything as usual may result in sudden disappearances, cell phones of those MIA off or ‘forgotten’, and 4 hour trips to the grocery (and by that I mean bar or other haven) by individuals who feel smothered. How then can you show your love, without the inevitable rejection? In this case, it takes a slight modification on your part: instead of coming on like a full-service Santa, choose a few specific things you want to be picture-perfect: the turkey, the hour around the tree handing out presents, the afternoon of carols and eggnog and snacks–and let everything else go. You’ll win all the accolades you could want and the true devotion you’ve always longed for, and there won’t be a thing for others to condemn–and isn’t that what you’ve been aiming for all along, a lovely and loving holiday to remember? Your Nemesis this holiday season: Gemini, Leo, or Capricorn/ Your secret angel: Pisces/ Your own personal elf or cherub: Scorpio

Just a Little Essence for Today 8 December 2011: ‘Goal: Reduce Emotional Chafing!’

Thought these two Lunar aspects were too important to leave hidden on the protected page; to see the rest, subscribe!

10:30 AM PST brings the Moon quincunx Saturn, hinting that we will either modify ourselves to reduce emotional chafing! or re-orient ourselves emotionally in order to comply with rules, authority, or reality. This is a modification better done now than ignored, to come back and smack us later.

By 2:30 PM PST the Moon squares Neptune. There’s emotional confrontation over fantasy, delusion, or lies. Obviously, we won’t look forward to this, but the plus it will offer is that we’ll be shown someone’s actual priorities or values, especially in relation to the material situation. Bonus hint: this may present as someone accusing you of being ‘too emotional’ while they appear to be cool as a cucumber, or they may frame things as reasonable or rational (them) v. irrational, delusional, or ridiculous (you). Just know that this will either be a case of projection (them on you), or an attempt to influence or control (them of you), and that you should listen to your own emotional and/ or intuitive response, which will be surprisingly objective, in terms of accuracy.

No matter what you do or don’t celebrate, it’s the holiday season–there’s no way to avoid it. Watch for the rest of the signs during the coming weeks.

Gemini  It’s all light-hearted banter with you, isn’t it, until someone loses a figurative eye as your barbs get pointier and pointier from holiday tension?  You network, you schedule, you flirt and cajole and fast talk others into so many overlapping commitments that when they finally turn on you, wanting to know what you’re going to contribute, you feel betrayed–after all, you’ve done all the assigning and scheduling and deciding and thinking and worrying, and gosh, that’s exhausting, it’s the hardest part of the holiday, the planning! You’ve invited criticism, and in an effort to make it up to others you may agree to sell your first born or to make the entire holiday dinner at both your parents’ house and your in-laws’ house. Over-committing is your problem, whether you’re doing it for others or doing it to yourself. It’s very simple: don’t put yourself in charge of everybody’s to-do list. But let’s be fair, Gemini, you often find yourself the target of gossip, innuendo, and catty remarks, not because of anything you’ve done, but because others are jealous of your social butterfly ways, and that can make the holidays trying as  you must deal with two-faced interactions and undermining by those who are less appealing, and know it. The remedy for this may be twofold: grow a thick skin, and don’t hold back a thing when it comes to showing off your sparkling and engaging personality. Why? Because nothing bugs your frenemies like seeing you at the top of your game, and at the center of the social whirl, right where you belong. Your Nemesis this holiday season: Taurus, Cancer, or Sagittarius/ Your secret angel: Aquarius/ Your own personal elf or cherub: Libra

Taurus  Though your typical reaction to stress is to quietly hunker down until the chaos and shelling subside, during the holidays that will only result in more and more chores, tasks, and issues being strapped to your back–and you ain’t nobody’s beast of burden! So what do you do? You’re not a fan of confrontation, and plugging away at all those tasks in the hope of finishing and freeing yourself is a pipe dream that’ll never materialize–but acting like you can’t retain a message or instruction just might. Combine this with sudden restless feet and uncharacteristic activity: you must move, dance, run, play charades (at which Taurus can be very good), walk, leap, spin, and make yourself absent when chores are being passed out. And if you are spotted and told to do, give the impression that you can’t be trusted to remember, or to get it right, with a “Did you want 5 pounds of flour and candied citron, or is that 5 pounds of sugar and fresh lemon or . . . did you say something about shrimp and muffin cups?’ See what I mean? Aries  You’re normally large and in-charge, spirit-wise, but during the holidays you may find your greatest strength used against you, ju-jitsu style, as a weapon; suddenly you wake up to find yourself running errands and liftin’ that load, totin’ that bale, while everyone else chills. How did this happen? Find the most passive-aggressive person in the room, the one who has ambitions to best you 364 but just can’t, and you’ll have pinpointed the person who has leveraged their family position into a mandate to tell you what to do. Is it fair? No. Can you combat it? Oh yes. Simply turn on that oblivious,  I do what I want! attitude with which you usually lead. Just ’cause it’s the holidays is no reason to go overboard on co-operation. Your Nemesis this holiday season: Libra, Pisces, or Taurus/ Your secret angel: Sagittarius/ Your own personal elf or cherub: Leo

I love the delicate rendering of detail in this picture. 'The Destruction of the City Wall' Lebschee 1849 {{PD-Art}}

5:30 AM PST the Moon squares Pluto, confronting us with something disturbing–and we feel we must do something about it (Cardinal placements). The leader in us is aroused–but we need to carefully sort out whether this is something to be remedied or a disaster that needs preventing, or whether it’s simply another outmoded Capricorn structure biting the dust.

9:30 AM PST the Moon sextiles Pallas–and if we didn’t know how to respond to the ‘emotional crisis’ of a few hours ago, we do now.

2 PM Pacific sees the Moon square Venus and quincunx Mars. Action costs, and the question becomes, are we willing to pay the price to do (or have) as we wish?

6 PM PST the Moon trines the Sun, making for an interlude that’s both energized and harmonious–an optimistic, get-it-done aspect.

Void begins 9:50 AM PST; Moon enters Aries at 5:52 PM Pacific time. We’ve got an immediate Lunar conjunction to Uranus–and we may surprise ourselves with our own aggressive nature, leadership skills, or decisive emotional manner. The group may or may not like this–negative reactions from others can be used to determine who’s trying to suck the life out of us (that’s a little dramatic–let’s say, ‘who’s trying to take our life energy, even in small measure, for their own’–makes theft sound so much nicer, doesn’t it? :))
