Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 29 September 2011: ‘The Veil Thins’

'Death and the Woodcutter' Millet {{PD-Art}}

10 AM Pacific the Scorpio Moon opposes Jupiter in Taurus, and we either feel alienated from the crowd (with a dark churning inside us that hints that the social scene may actively be rejecting us) or we find ourselves on the emotional attack, dissecting the social scene and particularly its material proclivities, and citing how they should change, for everyone’s benefit. In either case, we are rejecting our own darkness, or projecting it, rather than accepting it, and making ourselves whole, rather than fractured but feeling superior to something. Invite the darkness to the surface, if you can–we’re entering that time of year, in the Northern hemisphere, when the veil thins and we come closer in awareness to the meaning of mortality than at any other time, so it’s appropriate to acknowledge and accept darkness right now, within and without.

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 28 September 2011: ‘A Wise & Practical Goddess’

Pallas Athena by von Aachen {{PD-Art}}

4:30 PM PDT and the Moon squares Pallas in Capricorn. Our Warrior Goddess loves to be practical; she’s proud of her skills and her wisdom–so what about this in ourselves or others rubs us the wrong way on a feeling level? It’s a good question, which needs to be answered so that the irritation doesn’t go underground.

Just before 6 PM PDT the Moon trines Neptune, enhancing imagination, intuition, and inspiring our perceptive abilities–imagine it and we just might see it at this point! Void begins as the Moon begins to pull out of aspect to Neptune, at 6:52 PM Pacific time. Moon enters lovely, mysterious Scorpio at 9:05 PM PDT.

The Libra New Moon & Just a Little Lunar Essence for 27 September 2011: ‘Change, & Then Change’

Piazza San Marco in the Moonlight by Nerly c1870 {{PD-Art}}

On the 27th we’ve really got all we can handle with a 4:08 AM Pacific New Moon at 4 Libra 00. Using our usual strict 2 degree orb, the NM conjuncts Mercury and sextiles Mars, squares Pluto and opposes Uranus (which is, of course, conjunct the Earth). This is a highly dynamic Moon and, in typical Libra style, packs a cold iron fist inside that soft velvet glove. With Libra, there is an automatic implication of a partner or ‘other,’ and so we know that the experience will not be a solitary one. Here, the NM announces itself as about communication (Mercury) and communion (the companionship function of Libra) that is accompanied by or prompts action (Mars); what results is of a destructive or transformative nature (Pluto) and challenges the stability of both our identity as an individual and within the group (Uranus) and could signal unexpected changes to the material situation (Earth).

And later . . .

11 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Venus–excellent! for love, for partnership in the true sense of the word, for co-operation, and for delivering justice, especially for balancing emotional scales–and the Moon’s 12:30 AM PDT of the 28th’s trine to the South Node says that we may draw on the past to reach an emotional resolution now–and this may be very good, as in we’ve in some sense ‘learned our lesson,’ or it could be bad, if we slip into old ways of seeing and doing.

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 26 September 2011: ‘The Power of the Maternal’

Ceres, an allegory of August, fresco by Cosme Tura c1480 {{PD-Art}}

7:30 AM PDT the Virgo Moon opposes Ceres in Pisces; here we have two sets of feeling, nurturing, and maternally-keyed energies facing off against each other–and this could prove to be an incredibly rough showdown. One side (Ceres) clearly will feel it has the advantage of authority, whether that is conferred through age, position, status, or is primal (Mom!) while the other side (Moon) will be all-feeling and perhaps intuitively already privy to what the other side wants to share or state–yet feels vulnerable, as what opposes inherently carries power (or at least, presents resistance and a differing point of view) over the individual or side that is ‘junior’ (the Moon) in some way. This can also be a clash of maturity, where the over reaching of boundaries on the one side clashes with a recently developed Self-possession on the other.

Just a Little Essence for Today 25 September 2011: ‘Mercury’s Message’

Mercury enters 29 degrees today-ALERT! ‘The medium is the message’ has never been a more apt phrase than it is right now! People will say anything–to get what they want, to get attention, to make an impact, to impress, to assert themselves–it’s a day to take every communication as an ‘I WANT’ statement, and not much more. Realize that what we hear over this 24 hour period (at least) will be indicative of what others truly want–take it to heart, and remember it when the tide of illusion washes back in again.

Just a Little Lunar Essence for 24 September 2011: ‘A Smart Thing’

Here's looking at you-- The Marquesa Spinola Doria by Rubens 1606 {{PD-Art}}

4:30 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes Pallas, and we may wonder if ‘x’ is a good idea–we want so badly for it to be a smart thing to do–but we’d do better to adjust our viewpoint, and so the way we feel about ‘x’–just until we can get a little more perspective (and maybe a little feedback and/ or do a little research).

By 6:30 PM PDT the Moon opposes Neptune and semi-sextiles Mercury. This could be the point when we can get more informed about ‘x’–we’ll be capable of disengaging ourselves completely from fantasy, deception, and misconception, if we’re truly willing–not a good point for creative work, though we can judge our output with astonishing objectivity.

Sun Enters Libra 23 September 2011: ‘Slow Change of Focus’

Merse 1869 {{PD-Art}}

By the 23rd the Sun enters Libra, and Saturn sextiles the North Node and Mars sesquiquadrates it, while Mars also trines Uranus. We start thinking a little less of work and a little more of partnerships, though we are busy counting our accomplishments and looking at how to maximize our impact when we act in our most unique ways. We are transitioning, and can’t let go of our focus on work just yet. We can take some of our most impressive and original moves at this time, but just as we reach the pinnacle, we must start to pull back and turn our attention to the others in our world–it’s time.

Just a Little Essence for Today 22 September 2011: ‘Indecipherable Messages’

Beccafumi c.1545 {{PD-Art}}

Just after 6 AM PDT the Cancer Moon moves to the midpoint of Sedna and Mercury. We act like an emotional antennae, picking up messages that we are unable to decipher, or even understand conceptually. This can play out many different ways, but will likely bring about confusion, as we have responses that do not correspond to what’s happening around us. Accept that we don’t know why we’re feeling as we do, but that the feelings are real, true, and are telling us something–and we need to listen. Trust the emotions, but not the intuition–the mind will jump in to ‘translate’ intuition into thought, and that invites distortion and almost guarantees misunderstanding.

Just after 3 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes Neptune, and this is the point where the previous challenge either becomes an inspiration, or throws us into a funk of confusion or illusion, where we try to maintain an ‘old’ image of who we are; the previous Pallas challenge (Moon opp Pallas 1:30 PM PDT) was meant to cause us to adjust our approach and our beliefs, and if we don’t, we struggle. This latter aspect begins a Finger of God with apex Neptune and base of Moon and Sun. The implication is that harmony between intent and instinct can be channeled in a highly creative direction–but this is possible only if we are able to navigate the series of aspects effectively.

'Woman Weighing Gold' van Hemessen c.1530 {{PD-Art}}

Just after noon Pacific time the Cancer Moon squares h.Zeus; ambitions and wants will be stirred, but how we respond will have everything to do with our relationships and our nurture function (Cancer and Libra). We should expect anything from annoyance to refusal to bending over backward in those relationships where caring for another, emotionally and materially, is integral to the interaction. Will reveal how we really feel in terms of our own energy; resentments at those who take too much will appear, as will desires to give more to those we care for with whom we share an imbalance.

Just a Little Lunar Essence for Today 20 September 2011: ‘Sensitive and Stressed’

Miklos Barabas 1837 {{PD-Art}}

Void begins 9:35 AM PDT, with Moon entering her own sign of Cancer at 11:54 AM PDT. First aspect is the Moon trine Chiron, 2 PM Pacific–and we may access Mars through his quincunx to Chiron (Mars semi-sextile the Moon). We may feel exceptionally sensitive at this time, and stressed out because of it. It’s likely we will choose a stance: more assertive or aggressive (either as a defensive measure or attacking out of fear) or we may feel wounded by someone else, or even the Universe, and label ourselves victims. Neither will be appropriate or effective, so the best course may be to actively engage the skills, and avoid coming to emotional conclusions for now.

Just before 8 PM PDT the Moon opposes Pluto, and the tensions of the day may explode in rage or destructive action–or we may feel quite cool but witness this in others. This may not be the best time for an emotional purge, though we must take care not to be sneakily destructive or propagate darkness through secrets or ‘smother love’ (Cancer Moon). Instead, acceptance that darkness exists (for we may at this time be prone to deny it in ourselves or others altogether) but a refusal to nurture it is the right course.
