By 2:30 AM PDT the Moon quincunxes the Mercury/ Venus conjunction, which is very close at this point. This contact offers an emotional check-up on the way in which the matters of the (typically) four Houses of the natal chart (those ruled by Mercury and Venus) are affected; some combination of the subjects of these Houses comes forward and commands our attention. This can be a huge distraction, as we aren’t likely to immediately recognize this as a message concerning what we really care about, and how we should go about protecting it (Aries placement)–but that’s what it is.

Void begins 4:04 AM PDT, with the Moon entering Libra at 8:57 AM PDT. This right away casts the Moon as the apex of a Finger of God with base of Neptune in Pisces and Mars in Taurus. This last through 12:30 PM Pacific or so, and suggests that successfully utilizing our creative energy is the key to emotional equilibrium–balance within ourselves and balance in partnership or other interaction is achievable only if we are able to actively channel the creative and imaginative urge effectively. If we don’t, we’re liable to be very frustrated, and end up lashing out, swinging between extremes, or behaving in either a totally ‘dead to emotion’ manner, or as manic and out-of-control, pursuing delusions.

Just after 8 PM PDT the Moon squares Pluto; these are in Cardinal signs, and we’d better remember that, as the two energies conflict over exactly how much the emotional landscape must be dug up. We can be excessively tempted to destroy relationships or artistic creations at this point–hold back, don’t indulge–things ruined now are unlikely to be repairable.

The Essence for 12 May 2011: An Emotional Blind

5 AM PDT of the 12th the Moon quincunxes Vesta in Aquarius. The emotional reality may be challenged by the highest ideals and all matters sacred; Adjustment is the best course here–living up to your ‘best Self’ insures no bad aftertaste :)   By 7 AM PDT the Moon is conjunct Juno and quincunx Pallas; this makes us feel, well, emotionally invincible–and yet a soft, interior voice tells us we need to adjust our attitude ‘just so’ in order to remain on the ‘wisdom path.’ Don’t be too proud, or too convinced that inflexibility equals strength, to take advantage of that subtle but very smart guidance.

Just after 6 PM Pacific the Moon trines the Sun in Earth. It’s a point in the day to enjoy your surroundings, eat a good meal, see to your own and others’ physical comfort. This can be a respite that allows regeneration and true rest; no matter what you’re doing at this point, I hope you’ll do something that allows rejuvenation. By 8 PM the Moon trines Sedna, and suddenly we’re in an emotional blind; we may be keenly aware that, like hunters hiding, waiting for prey, we are peering out but we, and our emotional perceptions, really can’t be seen by others–and that may feel lonely and a bit disorienting. Relax, and occupy yourself–like all Moon aspects, this passes with only a few hours effect.

A hunter’s blind is a shelter usually constructed of natural materials, intended to blend into nature, that is located in an area where wildlife is known to gather, and allows hunters to be in close proximity to their prey.

The Essence for 11 May: Meet the Universe, Your Accountant

7 PM Pacific and the Virgo Moon trines Pluto. Change, even transformation, is easy, if we can allow the Universe to be our accountant; nature, or the flow of life energy, will take care of the details, if only we let it happen. Otherwise we may dig too deeply with well-meant (but harshly received) criticism, or bury our chance at reformation or re-birth in a pile of meaningless paperwork (real or symbolic). Keep your eye on the prize, and your ultimate wish for how things ought to be centered in your vision–that’s really all you have to do, to make it a reality.

The Essence for 10 May 2011: Passions Inflamed

By 1:30 AM PDT the Leo Moon opposes Vesta; the emotions may be very headstrong, and keen to throw the deepest and most sacred values to the winds in order to satisfy . . . what? Something we desire emotionally (Leo)–and coming off the sextile to h.Zeus it could be something that is a target of the ambitions or even a carnal passion–and with the emotions involved, the desire could be particularly intense. This want may enter our personal lexicon, becoming a long-time goal, a fixture of the personal outlook (the Saturn aspect just preceding this).

3 AM-ish the Moon opposes Pallas, and semi-sextiles Juno. We’re still stuck in that last sequence of aspects; we want ‘it’ bad! Even though we know it’s not smart (at least not right now), we still burn for it, as it seems to promise empowerment–and we can get a measure of what this will cost us and how it might alter things as the Moon, noonish PDT, forms a T-square with the Sun/ Earth axis. If Pluto or Neptune is currently making an aspect, hard or soft, to a natal energy, we may be more than ready to adopt this change–if Saturn is hitting significant spots, you may be wanting to make the change but unable to.

The Essence for 9 May 2011: Be Willing to Heal

11:30 AM PDT brings the Moon quincunx Chiron–we may question any emotional hurt we’ve recently suffered or inflicted–and likely find that our ego was the culprit. If this is felt by you, have the guts to step forward and apologize, to adjust the attitude to allow healing, and perhaps to admit that letting the ‘I am’ run the emotions may not really be working out for you. Now it should be noted that this begins a Finger of God that will last through about 4 PM Pacific, as the Moon moves on to quincunx Pluto, and then pulls away. This places the emotional nature and the intuitive perceptions at the apex of the configuration, and suggests that if we are willing to completely destroy/ transform our Chirotic ‘wound’ mechanism, we may find emotional solace, serenity, and healing–but that’s a big ‘if,’ and possibly a too-tall order on such short notice; it’s definitely a test of our flexibility and our willingness to heal (yes, I said willingness–many people cling to their wounds as if they prove something about them, their sensitivity, perhaps, or their right to feel angry, slighted, or justified in hating–but all it proves is that they are deriving a part of their identity from an injury that, if they let it heal, will mean they lose some cherished ‘victim’ view of themselves). Be willing to heal; anything less is an excuse to indulge one’s inner brat.

The Essence for 7-8 May 2011: A Molotov Cocktail of Emotion

4:30 PM PDT of the 7th the Moon squares Saturn, and by 5:30 PM the Moon is quincunx Vesta; these aspects are followed 7:30 PM Pacific by the Moon square h.Zeus, and 9:30 PM the Moon is quincunx Pallas. The story seems to be contentious, with one misstep leading to another, and another. We may be disgruntled with reality itself; the rules and boundaries seem specifically designed to annoy. We try to adjust according to our highest values, but they seem bothersome, too! So, we declare, ‘The hell with this!’ and go straight for a big ambition or desire–and finding, within and without, feedback that tells us that our goal is just not a smart one, at least not right now. What an evening!

10:30 AM PDT of the 8th sees the Moon square the Mercury/ Venus conjunction in Aries, making for an emotional tinder box ready to spark. There’s almost no way to communicate that isn’t like throwing a Molotov cocktail, so if you can’t stand the firefight, don’t converse! Maybe I should explain: the problem is that the receiver will be ultra-sensitive and the sender will be (probably completely inadvertently) attacking values, relationships, and/ or financial judgments. And the energy goes both ways, so we can each play either part multiple times. Yippee. It only gets worse as the Moon moves on and places Sedna sextile itself, while still aspecting Merc/ Venus; this means that when we try to explain, make up, soothe our own or another’s hurt feelings, we just won’t know what we’re doing. This is a day to keep things steady and to keep opinions to ourselves, because the real damage is done when we blithely speak without thinking; we just assume others think the same thing, or see things the same way–and they don’t.

6:30 AM PDT sees the Moon conjunct the South Node and sextile Jupiter, perhaps bringing the past social life back (oh facebook! How could you?) It’s either a nostalgic moment you want to share with others or like an acid flashback you can only ride out, waiting for the tortuous and vibrant re-living to be over–I guess a lot depends on how you view your past :)

The Void begins 1:14 PM PDT, with the Moon entering Cancer at 7:31 PM Pacific

The Essence for 5 May 2011: Seeing Perfection in Ourselves

Tags

'Windswept' Waterhouse {{PD-Art}}

By 7:30 AM PDT of the 5th the Gemini Moon forms an Air Grand Trine with Saturn in Libra and Vesta in Aquarius, balancing the mental faculties, placing the emotional outlook properly in perspective, and keeping it all aligned with our highest values and those things to which we dedicate our lives. This is an excellent influence, so take note of your mental state at this time, if possible; only major transits to natal factors are able to knock this potential askew. What you find (barring transit upsets) will be a perfect snapshot of how you should approach navigating life at this time. Rarely do we get a glimpse of total, healthy sanity and how it should appear in us, without any complexes, fears, or grudges–take advantage of this moment.

A quincunx of the Moon to the Earth and a square to Juno, 1 PM Pacific, brings us back to a more mundane reality, as we must adjust operations both to accommodate our material situation and to deal with any flak we get from those in charge (or at least, from those who think they should be!)

The Essence for 3-4 May 2011: Fresh-Scrubbed Emotions

Let’s actually start around 6:30 PM PDT the evening of the 3rd; that’s when the Moon in Taurus, like a fresh-scrubbed milkmaid, meets up with Sedna–and becomes udderly (milkmaid joke!) lost (sorry–feeling a little light-headed after planting trees in the sunshine). Poor Luna; it really is a matter of not being able to connect with our own feelings–so it’s an entire globe’s worth of people who haven’t a clue about their emotional state–and that can lead to all sorts of mischief, even tragedy. It’s the equivalent of absolutely everybody being disassociated, all at once, and that means that, driven by emotions of which we’re unaware, we could really put our foot in it (or in someone else’s ‘it’). Stick to material matters, tried-and-true comforts, and keep reactions to a minimum, and you should sail through this fine. Notable is that we enter the Void as the Moon pulls away from Sedna (6:54 PM Pacific–and yes, this will differ from some other astrologers’ calculations).

By 8:30 PM the Moon is quincunx the North Node and semi-sextile Jupiter and, shortly thereafter, Mars. Coming off the emotional blindness of Sedna, we may suddenly be re-connected to the emotions by the social sphere, probably through awareness of standards and what’s acceptable. It may be like waking up from sleep-walking to find ourselves, as in the classic dream, in class in our underwear–only this time it will be figurative, and emotional. We see how this affects our Path, and we act on what we observe–a pretty straightforward series of events, though since we’re in the Void, something unexpected could materialize, it’s just as likely there’ll be no lasting damage :)

Moon enters Gemini at 10:10 AM PDT, with an immediate square to Neptune that challenges the emotional outlook or the intuitive perceptions with either a ‘shot’ of potent inspiration or with information that contradicts our ideals. Now, this latter breaks down into one of two possibilities: either the info is real, and we need to acknowledge that our ideals are inaccurate in some way, or the info is an illusion or a deliberate deception, and must not be tolerated. How do we know the difference? If we’re willing to be totally honest with ourselves, we can intuit the answer: the Gemini Moon tunes us in to the nuances of communication–and from that we can know instinctively what we’re dealing with.

The Essence of the Taurus New Moon, 2011: Burgeoning Awareness

Europa and the Bull ancient Greek {{PD-Art}}

On the 2nd of May we have a New Moon at 11:49 PM Pacific Daylight Time at 12 Taurus 30. We keep our usual two-degree orb, and we end up with quite a few aspects. We have a trine to Juno (the NM promises easy empowerment beginnings in the area of the chart where Juno, currently at 14 Virgo 00, is transiting); a quincunx to both Saturn and h.Zeus (what’s started at the NM must adjust to reality/ things as they are–especially relationships–and to the need-state of ambitions and desires, as they are clearly solidified–conjunction to Saturn–and must be dealt with); opposition to Earth (of course!); squares to both Vesta and Pallas in Aquarius (events or experiences of the NM spark Higher Mind devotion to the sacred, to home and sexual expression, and to what we know to be wise, and may bring revelations and innovative ideas); the NM is just out of range for a sextile to Ceres; and consequently authorities might lack power and not truly have reach, at this time.

Taking into account my interpretation of the New Moon’s Sabian symbol (available in the newsletter) we ask, what does all this New Moon energy indicate? That this marks the point of a burgeoning awareness of some part of the contents of the personal psyche, and that this awareness will rely upon both a clear connection to the personal reality and a consciousness of one’s most sacred values. You’ll be dealing with ‘baggage,’ your own or someone else’s. Remember, it’s only a starting point–something is born with this Moon (and it’s likely materially related, or will affect the material situation–Taurus) that has deeply-felt ‘roots’–and a growing consciousness of what starts here will inform thought and experience at least through to the next New Moon, with results that reach far beyond that.
