ECLIPSE magazine

from Synagogue Beit Alpha, Northern Israel, 6th century, courtesy NASA

As ECLIPSE Readers know, I’ve been looking to fine-tune what I’m delivering in the publication to better suit both my readers and myself; to that end I’ve decided to make the quarterly journal into a newsletter, delivered directly to email, between one and three times per month (with possible updates in between). This allows me to deliver much more material in a shorter format–you get more material, I get to experiment with more variety, and worry less about time-consuming formatting and the chance that larger files could be rejected by some recipient’s email servers. Material will still be in-depth, but in shorter pieces, and more of them than were fitting into the magazine, so that over the three month time period that an issue used to cover, you’ll receive a lot more.

Will it cost more? Yes–you’ll be getting more for your money. I know I may lose some readers because of this (I may lose a lot of readers because of this!) I once heard someone say, in relation to the cost of their own services, “Not everyone is supposed to be able to afford everything,” and something like that may apply here; it’s a matter of priorities, of what something is worth to you, and I won’t be one bit offended if readers decide this method isn’t for them. We all have to make decisions that serve our best interests, myself included, and, particularly when I consider the time I invest (after all, you come here because of my years of study, because of what I can offer you), and review the cost of other amenities in Western society (roughly the equivalent of a first-run movie ticket, popcorn, and a drink for a 3 month subscription=$15) I feel the price is reasonable. For those who don’t want to subscribe, there will still be abbreviated daily (or covering several days) posts here, where I’ll try to convey the essential, need-to-know data, and short articles and commentary at ‘Been There, Done That.’

The Newsletter (still called ECLIPSE) will be illustrated just as the magazine was, and deliver a letter from me (let’s call it a communique, that’s so ’70s radical!) articles, shorts, and by-the-week forecasts, as well as New and Full Moon reports; there will still be a Protected Page here at the blog for the detailed Daily Moon picture. Your subscription will start from the day you enroll, and last three months out (for instance, 3 Feb as the sign up date takes your subscription through 3 May). The first issue features articles on Amor and Sappho, Solar Arc for beginners, a three-week ‘look ahead,’and a review of the amazing astrological imagery of Darren Aronofsky’s film ‘Black Swan’ I hope you’ll join me for the journey!

PS There’s no link up yet to order; I’ll let you know right here as soon as there is! Thanks!

And there’s a new post at ‘Been There, Done That’ on the entry of the Sun, Mars, and Ceres into Aquarius.

Thank you!

20 December 2010: Gemini Moon and Racing Minds + the Lunar Eclipse!

Lithograph, Library of Congress USA, 1895 {{PD}}

Published 10:19 PM PST 19 December

The Moon’s Gemini characteristics come through loud and clear through the 2 PM hour PST; it’s talk, it’s mental, it’s light, it’s a wee bit frenetic, it’s charming. Don’t over think ‘it’ at this time; just go with the Gemmy flow!

2:30 PM of the 20th PST the Moon quincunxes Ceres, and it becomes clear that adjustments must be made to what nature or authority requires. Don’t let this spoil your week–it’s necessary to acknowledge that some things must be honored, no matter how these disturb our best-laid plans!

Around 6 PM PST, Moon squares Jupiter, squares Juno, squares Uranus, effectively forming a T that funnels social, empowerment, and group or individual autonomy matters through the emotions and intuition. We can believe we’re sensing (about others, the group, or our own empowerment choices) what’s really just an emotional reaction to what we’re faced with–and with concurrent trines of the Moon to Neptune and Chiron, it’s easy to see how our own proclivities for accepting wishful thinking and/ or believing another’s deceptions could convince us that we’re on to some course that’s supported by intuitive perceptions. The best alternative in this instance may be to take a step back from our own racing minds and recognize that there are factors influencing us that we can’t deal with on a purely mental basis (Gemini) and that we are too prone to subtle and nefarious influences (Neptune/ Chiron) to settle any empowerment questions or inquiries about our group role at this time.

Total Lunar Eclipse 21 December 2010 12:13 AM PST 29 Gemini 20

The Sabian for the Moon/ Earth conjunction is, ‘A Parade of Bathing Beauties Before Large Beach Crowds’  As a symbol of Lunar promise (with an influence to last through to the next eclipse set in 6 months), it suggests attractive individuals showing their ‘stuff,’ so to speak, before the masses. In very straightforward terms, it promises an atmosphere where we are either one of the Beauties, drawing attention and receiving scrutiny as we show our assets (!) or we are part of the crowd, watching and assessing. The likelihood is that we will all take turns, sometimes being ‘on parade,’ sometimes merely observing. Since no real skill is involved in this image, what we must conclude is that it’s what we might call ‘God-given’ facets of our Beingness that are on display, things that are just part of who we are, and that are considered desirable by the social order in which we participate. Added to the Sun’s Sabian, ‘The Pope Blessing the Faithful,’ the message could be that purely physical/ material assets that are innate may pull the individual in a direction opposite to one that promises a reward within a hierarchy (a ‘religion’ as represented by the figure of the Pope) that measures not by the physical but by what it deems devotion (and this is the key, that the hierarchy wants to call the shots) to their version of the spiritual/ devotional–which makes the hierarchy almost anti-spiritual in its demands.

What’s offered here is the essence of the eclipse energy; the only way to see the full report on the Lunar Eclipse of the 21st is by getting your password to the private pages; it comes with every purchase of the Fall ECLIPSE http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/    (Sorry, the links aren’t lighting up-Merc retro? 😦  please copy and paste)                  ECLIPSE Readers: your password is listed in the Table of Contents of the magazine, with links to pages at right and above-–Thank you for your support!

17 December 2010: The Weekend Outlook

ECLIPSE magazine, Moon in Gemini, Moon in Taurus, My Weekend Astro Diary

GH Durrie 'A Christmas Party' {{PD-Art}}

The Grand Cross of Sun/ Pallas, Earth, Juno, Jupiter/ Uranus is the star of the show this weekend, bringing strong emphasis on a conflict dynamic that may seem at this point to have no way of resolution. What’s wise/ smart is clear; there’s conflict, though, between the needs of the individual within her or his role in the group and the personal role that will bring empowerment. It’s a stand-off, so don’t expect any real answer–the best we can hope for is to work a compromise that’s relatively comfortable and workable. Further, Venus is sesquiquadrate Earth at this point, dragging values and relationships into the mix through the material demands these engender. This is a tough jumble of influences, the tension from which many will blame on holiday pressures, when the real focus is on our own internal struggle for personal empowerment within our own scene.

Pallas takes over as body of latest degree and Merc retro is conjunct, and hooked to the Sun as they are by conjunction means that we have a prevailing influence of wisdom and guidance, if we will only see it (it will be prominent, right in front of us, but some will manage to overlook it completely, likely complaining loudly about a lack of same!) Communications will, for a time (through to the inferior conjunction of the 20th) hold all that we need to know–and yet accessing/ recognizing that is the trick!

For a lot more on the weekend influences and the upcoming Lunar Eclipse, use your password to access the Private Pages at right (can’t remember your password? It’s listed in the Table of Contents in ECLIPSE) Don’t have a password? Get one here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/ And have a great weekend!

16 December 2010: Material Consequences

Johannes Vermeer 'Lady and Maidservant holding a letter' c.1667 {{PD-Art}}

By 2:30 PM PST we see the first aspect of the Taurus Moon, a trine to the North Node/ Mercury conjunction, highlighting the heavy-duty contemplation we’ve been involved in (whether we’ve been aware of it or not). The material situation, and the consequences to the material if we continue to follow the present Path, have been the focus (again, whether you realize it or not). With Merc retro right now, we may feel very shaky about both our observations and our conclusions–and this alone should let us know that making decisions based purely on fears of material consequences would be a mistake–we just can’t know the consequences at this time. Use what you see and feel to let yourself know what is truly of concern for you, as this will reveal what’s often brushed aside or overshadowed by more conscious concerns.

The trine to Pluto hits at 6:30 PM Pacific, and I do mean hits! We have the opportunity to use this energy to literally transform a situation with which we’re faced–but keep in mind, it’s also easy to ‘go destructive,’ and throw the baby out with the bathwater. The energy has a material component–job seekers, this is a good point to take a step to change the current situation.

For more on the forecast, and a detailed look at the upcoming eclipse of the 21st, get password access to the Private Pages plus Karen at Ravenesque’s forecast, Jude Cowell’s look at the US chart through a historical lens, and lots more by me for only $4.95 http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/ Thanks!

15 December 2010: Pointing Toward Action

Hubert 'The Fire of Rome 18 July 64 AD' {{PD-Art}}

9 PM PST the 15th the Aries Moon trines the Sun in Fire, and we get all fired up–for West Coasters, may represent one of those inconvenient times when we should be winding down but end up revving up! By 11 PM Pacific the Moon is within quincunx of Juno and creates a Finger of God with her sextile to Neptune/ Chiron. Pointing the way to empowerment is a formula that says, use emo perceptions and intuition in concert with creative energy and unique skills–sounds easy, but pinpointing the arenas is the challenge. The House that holds transiting Juno (25 Virgo 46) tells us where in this moment our empowerment options lie; move on this as it may facillitate many other developments and certainly will help us know where our strengths are contained. With Uranus/ Jupiter at the midpoint of the Finger’s base, we can hook into a stream of social energy that helps our empowerment goals–be open to mass urges, occasions, and beliefs you can use for your own ends.

To read about the current Grand Cross, and get detailed forecasts, access monthly overviews, New and Full Moon reports, and the articles of ECLIPSE magazine, all for only $4.95 order here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/ and for a thorough portrait of Juno in the individual chart and in synastry, try JUNO IN THE NATAL CHART http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/ Thanks!

Added: The naming of Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook mogul, as TIME’s Person of the Year came as a surprise to quite a few; naming him so during a Merc retro period suggests they (the TIME staff responsible) may regret their choice (embarrassed, perhaps?) once the tiny messenger planet goes Direct.

8-9 December 2010: Frustration, One Way or Another

Read the description of this odd print here http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Richard_Arkwright_dismissing_his_wife.jpg

Void begins 5:08 PM PST of the 8th, with the Moon’s entry into Aquarius coming at 11:30 PM PST. This is notable mostly as offering denizens of the Western Hemisphere uncertain evening proceedings. Particularly in Western time zones, the atmosphere could be one of seriousness that in spite of itself can’t really accomplish anything–there’s just no energy (the meaning of a Void period) behind any efforts–and Cappy hates to be thwarted. Frustration can lead to cross words and temper tantrums–all to no avail. With the Moon’s entry into Aquarius, energies turn philosophical, and we gain a little mental distance, allowing for assessing where things just weren’t going well. First aspect of note that breaks us out of our critical revery is the Moon’s square to Venus, 9 AM-ish PST of the 9th; why is it that just when we’re feeling good about our minds we start to worry about our looks? or our relationships, or our money? Things take a devilish turn as we overthink and over-analyze; this overwrought contemplation could take up our whole day–and it’s not helped by the pressure of Mercury’s imminent retrograde.

ECLIPSE Readers: There is a LOT of new material on the Private Page, including info on Merc Retro and its effects; if you don’t have your password yet, get it with $4.95 purchase of ECLIPSE Astrology Journal http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/ Includes 3 month access (November, December, January) to all the password-protected Private Pages here at the site, and includes Mercury Retrograde info and will cover the upcoming Eclipses! PS The 13th is the day to watch–find out why in the Private Pages!

ECLIPSE magazine, Moon in Sagittarius, New Moon

From 'A B C Trim' by LGF Rattisbonne {{PD}} from Wikimedia Commons

Hard to do, really, as a New Moon is so fresh and tenuous, barely reflecting any light–and yet, we feel it, as a major energy shift comes into play. Since the Sagittarius setting for the Sun and Moon meeting seems to have freed us all, I’ll just offer up a little advice on current energies in play. For access to more detail, and daily and monthly forecasts, articles, and more, please get ECLIPSE for only $4.95 for 3 months (Nov, Dec, Jan) http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/ Thanks for your support!

And ECLIPSE Readers: Use your password to see new daily (for the 5th 6th and 7th) forecast material up on the Private Page! link above and at right

Venus trines the SN in Water through the 6th–remember that now’s the time when we might finally see the true effects of the retrograde–and this suggests both a tendency toward sentimentality (even when that’s not our usual mode) and an urge to follow old familiar ways and paths. Make a real effort to stay focused in the now; remind ourselves that the current reality is what’s really in force right now. Venus is also sextile Mercury/ Pluto/ NN, and this can be both positive and negative: positive as we communicate beautifiully and welcome change that enhances our Path, and negatively in that we may paper over unpleasantness with pretty nothings and may be too welcoming of something that’s ultimately destructive. It’s a balancing act, one Venus is all too familiar with via her Libra rulership, and that may hint that in this period a partner or other with whom we can share and bounce ideas off of may be the best way to avoid overdoing in some vital and far-reaching sense.

Mars is now planet of latest degree, in an agreeable Fire sign, and that spells action! Is that a good idea now? It almost doesn’t matter, as action may precede thoughts–just be careful you don’t get burned by the freewheelin’ spontaneity that will feel like a great notion but may not be one, in the end (as those are only sometimes)  🙂

The New Moon of 5 December 2010: The Wisdom Spark

04 Saturday Dec 2010

ECLIPSE magazine, Moon in Sagittarius, My Weekend Astro Diary, New Moon

The New Moon Sabian for the December 5th event, which takes place at 13 Sagittarius 28 at 9:35 AM PST: ‘The Great Pyramid and The Sphinx’  Let’s note here that there is one aspect to the NM when we use our 2 degree max orb (let’s call this the ‘orb of precision’!)–this is a sextile between the NM/ Sun and the conjunction of Saturn/h. Zeus.

The Great Pyramid and the Sphinx are both symbols of wisdom, the kind of ancient truths that hold the secrets of life itself. True wisdom typically expresses concepts that resonate at all levels: spiritual, physical/ material, mental, emotional, linking the seen and unseen in perfect harmony. This suggests that the New Moon will spark a seed-light within each of us that springs from an essential life-truth–and the aspect to Saturn/ h. Zeus says it will have a material component, something in reality we can actually point to (so not something that is pure concept or choice) and further that this will express in some way a deep desire or ambition within.

The New Moon is not an idea point, but an action point (Cardinal placement of Saturn, h. Zeus, Mercury, and Pluto) that pushes that idea literally out into the world (Sagittarius placement of Sun and Moon) setting in motion an effect of change, transformation, or obliteration that reflects a Soul-deep ambition or desire (h. Zeus).

To see the discussion of why Mercury and Pluto are especially important at this New Moon, as well as to see the explanation of the impact of Uranus’ same day Direction, get your password by ordering ECLIPSE http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/ Thank You! And I hope you’re all having a great weekend!

Here’s the chart, set for my hometown of Seattle:

Dark of the Moon, ECLIPSE magazine

by Joseph Wright of Derby {{PD-Art}}

It’s a newly spawned (that seems about right for) Scorpio Moon, beginning its journey just as we enter the Dark of the Moon leading up to the New Moon of the 5th. By the 9 AM hour PST we are in that low energy no-man’s-land that this time seems more like a dark tunnel than a vast emptiness–as if we’re on track for something, and we won’t discover it until we emerge from the tunnel with the New Moon. The natural affinity of Scorpio for crawling into a dank yet cozy cave fits well with this period when the lunar energy is quite naturally withdrawn–so what do we do with this?

We use this time for things that are best done in the dark: dreaming, meditating, investigating, cogitating, imaginating! and resting. It’s the perfect time for renewal, so retreat from as much of life’s demands as is possibly will be to your benefit. The idea is to come back to your obligations refreshed and renewed, to emerge phoenix-like from the ashes of your own outmoded ideas and attitudes with a new version of you, identical, yet just a little better. This point comes, of course, sometime after the Sun/ Moon conjunction, typically within no more than twelve hours of the meeting. (And here’s a hint: this NM will have some connection to events and viewpoints of June 2010.)

In that spirit I won’t be posting again here until I put up a much abbreviated version of my New Moon report–for information on what we may be facing during the Void (if retreat isn’t an option for you) and for early access to my complete New Moon outlook, see the Private Pages at right. Password comes with ECLIPSE $4.95 for three months (Nov, Dec, Jan) of detailed forecasts, monthly overviews, a 3-month Tarotscope by Karen of Ravenesque, and articles by myself and Jude Cowell of Stars Over Washington–so get it now! http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/ And Thanks!

EL Kirchner 'Ladies Playing Ball' 1931-1932

The Moon now in Libra, Venus at 00 Scorpio, it all smells so refreshing, doesn’t it? And yet we can’t go long without a challenge, in this case, the Moon’s square to Pluto around 11 AM Pacific. We’ll each choose a side–kicker or receiver, to use a football analogy. If we’re the kicker, the emotions will go into high gear, swooping down on those around us like a visit from avenging angels, terrible, destructive, bent on change. We will be a force to be reckoned with, oriented toward creating change (or remaking something in our preferred image), without a care for who might be harmed in the process (but if this is you, be gentle with yourself–you are not intending to hurt anyone–it’s more a matter of feeling that others must not stand in your way, that they must be responsible for themselves–oddly, it’s a stance that respects others even as it may leave some destruction in its wake). But, if you are the receiver, others may seem needlessly harsh, may not take the care you require, may be judged to be enraged, destructive, or almost evil–and though there will be some who will indeed be careless and wreak havoc, the vast majority will be misunderstood by the receivers, who will have moved too far toward seeing themselves as refined and delicate. They may be too civilized in this instance, asking what is really a cleansing emotional force to be unduly restrained, demanding that Plutonian forces tip-toe whenever they’re in the vicinity. This refinement isn’t wrong so much as it is an act of avoiding the cycle of energy that brings everything to change, or to an end. The receivers may need to let go and trust that, though some change may be abrupt, and transformations can be brutal and leave us bruised, it’s all part of the way things are meant to be.

Don’t forget to check out the December Forecast on the Private Pages–and if you still need your password, get it with purchase of the latest ECLIPSE only $4.95 http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/ Thanks!
