I don't know what to think of this picture by Arnold Bocklin--it certainly elicits an array of reactions!

4 AM PDT of the 9th, the Moon hits the South Node, and sends us on a nostalgia trip–ease on down the road! Void begins 5:48 AM PDT, with the Moon entering Cancer at 2:02 PM Pacific, and until the Lunar orb hits Cancer, we may just generally drift–not a bad feeling, but perhaps frustrating to those who are a little more type ‘A.’

We start with a trine of the Moon to Neptune; it’s like diving under water and trying to convey our feelings through a dense, shimmering liquid that muffles the sound and distorts what we see–we can certainly live through it, but we shouldn’t expect clear communications–it’s more like everyone is in their own little watery cocoon.

The Essence for 15 March 2011: A Point of Reckoning

Ceres, Finger of God, Moon in Cancer, the Nodes

Surely this young woman's direct gaze suggests she's unafraid of a reckoning Vermeer c.1666 {{PD-Art}}

7 AM-ish sees the transiting Moon complete a Finger of God with a base of Ceres and the North Node. This may be a point of reckoning for all of us concerning Mother Nature and the way in which she’s changing the Life Path of just about everyone on the planet. Another big shake, a volcano going off (as of this writing there’s new activity in Japan, and there’s plenty more sprinkled around the Ring of Fire, not to mention so many other places on the map), or some other natural phenomenon (even a man-triggered one like a nuclear reaction, or the release of radiation, as we’re already seeing, but this time in a proportion with real consequences)? This may be reading too much into it, but with the Moon in Water and the NN in Sagittarius, it suggests to me another tsunami or other water phenomenon that has far-reaching (Sag) effects–but with Ceres in Aquarius, it may just be that our minds are fixed on pondering, studying, and analyzing what has already occurred. A small note: the dynamic (moving) chart I use to follow transits, which is set for Seattle, shows the Moon sextile the chart Vertex at this point, as well–and this implies a truly fated event. Most likely, though, is that this point will pass as so many others have, with nary a whisper :)

The Essence for 12-13 March 2011: Emotions Gently Handled

Fragile Emotion photo by Don from Murfreesboro TN Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 Generic

By 11 PM PST of the 12th the Moon trines Ceres in Air–and our thoughts will be on Mother Nature, and/ or the maternal. We can work out an emo kink in this area, smooth our thoughts, if we want to. (And this includes attaining a workable emotional relationship with current events–we can’t be overwhelmed forever).

Moon enters Cancer at 7:29 AM PDT of the 13th. A word on the Cancer Moon: this transit can be both highly soothing, as we are able to connect with methods and individuals who make us feel better (or at least well-nurtured) and it can be highly painful, as we wish to nurture, heal, or cure what’s around us in typical caring Cancerian fashion. Considering world events of late, it may be an up-and-down period; so be gentle with yourself, not expecting too much from any quarter, but also not demanding you give more than you comfortably can. You’re no good to anyone, especially yourself, if you’re debilitated.

Right away in Cancer the Moon squares Uranus–an emotional or intuitive surprise is possible, but I might also think there could be an emotionally-based challenge to our individuality, our ability to create and innovate, or to our stance on or position in the group. Your reaction will be a read on how you really feel about yourself in the area (individuality, ability to innovate, or group membership) where this occurs, and will reveal what you really think your place or privilege should be. This is good, as it wipes away false modesty and allows us to claim our own uniqueness publicly and proudly.

The Essence for 14 February 2011: A Personal Emotional Odyssey

Moon in Cancer, My Daily Astrology Diary, The Astro Essence

'The Wounded Angel' 1903 Hugo Simberg {{PD-Art}}

We start the 14th with the Cancer Moon conjunct the South Node and trine Chiron; this might make for a very nostalgic period. If you’re awake, you’re yearning, if you’re asleep, you’re re-hashing the past–and it can be very moving, bringing the tenderest emotions to the surface, and possibly healing an old hurt.

Relief (or, significant distraction!) comes with the Moon’s opposition to Pluto, Vesta, and then Venus (stretching a full 12 hours, 8:30 AM PST to 8:30 PM) bringing that emotional tumult of earlier to the edge, straight to the deep, to connection with what we honor, the home, or the sex life, and then pitting the emotional picture against relationships and/ or finances as they exist–which can make for a jolt, after our journey to the depths and through some of the most vital areas of our lives. This can bring a new perspective to our closest interactions, and can result in changes based purely on our personal emotional odyssey–and that means that others may not understand (but then you have to ask, do they need to?)

Cancer Full Moon January 2011: Power Lineage, Power Elite

Full Moon, Moon in Cancer, My Daily Astrology Diary

A card deck from the French Revolution, with Kings replaced with thinkers from the past, Queens replaced with ideals

The Full Moon for January occurs at 1:21 PM PST on the 19th at 29 Cancer 27. My sense of this is that it’s almost more important than the New Moon eclipse was, as it promises, simply by its degree and aspect type, a culmination that is at a crisis stage. We have the tension of both the Sun/ Earth axis and the Moon–these are vital energies that are all in crisis at once–identity, Soul, and life-blood, material/ physical as well as our connection to the body, to sustenance and the shaping of our surroundings, and the emotional/ intuitive, with its facility for sensing, feeling, knowing, without words, images, or other cues. It says, in short, that the senses of the world will be one big open, well not wound, perhaps sense organ, would be a better designator, though exaggerated nerve would also do, considering that the Full Moon’s trine to Jupiter is within two minutes, and the trine to Jupiter’s long-time companion, Uranus, is within the two degree orb. This happens in the element of Water, making it even more feeling and sense-oriented than we might be able to imagine–it’s more like a dream, reflected by the quincunx the Full Moon makes to Neptune and his long-time companion, Chiron–and that takes the dream not just to an emotional level, but to a primitive one, where the primal Chirotic urge is stirred and the imagination, and the connection to the Cosmic and to the Collective, take it from there.

Juno is also involved, in sextile to the Moon, making it all hooked to empowerment, and giving that empowerment need a life-or-death feel, making it a demand. So what we have is likely an overwhelming emotional atmosphere that may make us feel frightened, wounded, lost, isolated (or conversely, lost in the vastness of the Cosmos or the Collective identity), fed to us through the mucous membranes, the nerves, though hallucinogens, alcohol, drugs, through dream or dream-like states, through illusion or fantasy, through the group experience, and all overlaid with the sense that this is an emergency, that we must feel effective.

The Sabian for the Earth/ Moon conjunction is ‘A Daughter of the American Revolution’  and the symbol for the Sun ‘A Secret Meeting of Men Responsible for Executive Decisions in World Affairs’ How does this translate for the individual?

Since we are all at the mercy of decisions made by those who hold the power, and anytime we don’t agree we are cast (besmirched) as some form of revolutionary (read: threat to the existing power structure, if only through our disapproval) then we may experience our own version of feeling (remember, this is a Full Moon at 29 degrees) brace yourself, inside the power structure. Even though we might logically think this would bring an experience of alienation and isolation (and undoubtedly for some, this will be the experience as they project a sense of elitism onto the world that surrounds them) it in fact will pinpoint our own revolutionary lineage–we find our place in the power elite, as the descendant of privilege–we find where we are in charge of the world, from whence we gain our power, we find our global power ‘clan’–and unexpected, emotion-charged, and sensation-filled will be our Full Moon experience.

ECLIPSE Readers, see the complete forecast explanation under ‘Pages’ at right–Water water everywhere (and some places, ice!) stay safe, and have a wonderful Full Moon!

18 January 2011: Bad Judgment on One End, Loneliness on the Other

Moon in Cancer, My Daily Astrology Diary

Maybe a little time in a psychedelic garden with a couple of chickens is just the thing Klimt 1917 {{PD}}

By 6:30 AM of the 18th the Moon opposes Pallas and quincunxes Venus, setting us up to try to fulfill desires while avoiding taking the wise course! Sounds Self-defeating, doesn’t it? And it is–try to avoid this trap of indulging an adolescent world-view.

The Moon’s sextile to Sedna around midnight PST ushers in a lonely feeling–we may get inexplicably melancholy at this time. Insomniacs may have it particularly hard, as no novel, snack, late-night talk show, favorite movie, or midnight walk will take our minds off a strange emptiness. Just know it will pass shortly; the one positive this may bring out is that it moves a lot of detritus aside and lets us see exactly what issues and fears may underlie our everyday thinking. These are things normally disguised, repressed, or gussied up as something else, so appreciate the opportunity to see below the surface.

For more detail on the day, you might want to become an ECLIPSE reader, with access to the Password Protected Pages at right–but you should probably wait, the new issue (with password privileges) comes out 1 February (or sooner, if I get my act together!) I’m switching to a newsletter subscription format, sent to email 1-3 (or possibly more, depending on what’s going on) times a month, featuring current astro influences, articles, commentary on news and current events, with daily Moon forecasts still here at the blog, with abbreviated forecasts here on the home page. Finger of God, Moon in Cancer, My Daily Astrology Diary

Was life ever like this? Hans Dahl 1900 {{PD-Art}} Wikimedia Commons

published at 7:53 AM PST

About 6:30 PM PST the Moon quincunxes retro Merc, bringing an emotional hiccup–we wonder why everything seems uncomfortably irritating, all at 6s and 7s, as they say; this is followed by the Moon’s opposition to Ceres and trine to Jupiter= the natural order of things is inherently upsetting, and emotional exaggeration is prominent. During this same period, the Moon, once it contacts Merc and through its contact to Neptune by quincunx around 10 PM PST, is forming a Finger of God with base of Merc/ Neptune; this suggests an emotional crisis over information that may not be true. The question is, are you the story-spinner/ info manipulator or the deceived/ mislead? This equation says that the one handling and shaping communications is the one seeking power–this isn’t necessarily negative, but does ask us to make a morals check, if this is the part we play, as well as to recall that the ends don’t necessarily justify the means.

25 November 2010: The Ritual of Giving Thanks

25 Thursday Nov 2010

Moon in Cancer, My Daily Astrology Diary

Because the vast majority of us are not only aware of the way gratitude plays an important mental, emotional, and spiritual role in our lives, we practice it daily, some see no need to set aside a day to give what amounts to ritual thanks, to God, the Universe, or simply to each other for the sustenance we share. My feeling, though, is that it’s important that we express our thankfulness for all we have (no matter how little that is) in a ritualized way; ritual allows us to bring a sense of the sacred (Vesta) to what is essential daily practice ( both the consumption of food and our conscious expression of gratitude). In the US (as in most other places that set aside a special occasion to show thankfulness) there are traditions that have grown up around the ritual–and make no mistake, our Thanksgiving here is a modern thing, a celebration of the way two disparate worlds began to co-operate (the indigenous inhabitants and those who saw it as an empty land, free for the taking) not, as some would contend, a celebration of one viewpoint or race triumphing over another. That would be the opposite of gratitude, for when one component of the equation is not considered, no one truly profits. With the Moon in Cancer for this Thanksgiving, we can make the day a ritual of caring; a Grand Trine around 4:30 PM PST involving Vesta, the Moon, and Uranus, all in Water, says that the individual can become emotionally balanced within the group by honoring those things we know to be sacred, and whatever we consider ‘home,’ as well as those with whom we are most intimate. A great deal of healing can be accomplished through kindness, today–don’t underestimate the power of the Cancerian vibe.

And now to the practical advice on how to handle the day. The day’s dynamic is encapsulated in the T-square of Juno opp Jupiter/ Uranus, both square Pallas/ Mars/ Mercury. Pallas is included in a version of the ‘T’ (as each energy must be considered separately within the equation) that does not include Uranus, and vice versa, suggesting that wisdom and rebelliousness/ originality will not be able to co-exist in the same action and thought dynamic. The signs involved are Virgo, Pisces, and Sagittarius; mutability brings a fluidity to the days activities that may be surprising. The general atmosphere may be one of a tension focused on the individual and the role in the group–all energy going toward what we’re putting out, how we’re interacting, and with a particular personal attention to how well we’re being accepted on the social scene. Considering that many among us will be spending an unusual amount of time with family, this influence may set the stage for a re-evaluation of the individual within the family dynamic, the reassessment being provided by Juno’s sense of personal empowerment v. the exaggerated need for the uniqueness of the individual to be incorporated into the group (Uranus)–and all offset by the tensions provided by egos, communications, and the inner wisdom. It’s a chance to re-learn how to interact with those important to us in ways that enhance our own (and likely their) feelings of autonomy, relevance, and strength as individuals–and very good influence, if we can avoid overreaction, rebellion, or any of the other hair-trigger responses that still live in us from childhood.

Ceres, Moon in Cancer, My Daily Astrology Diary

M. Heade 'Cattelya orchid & three Brazilian hummingbirds' 19th c. {{PD-Art}}

I like to think the Moon is there even if I’m not looking at it

A. Einstein

We will be in a unique position today; we will be so busy being the Cancer Moon, we may not pay attention to it–but for us, as for Einstein, it will be nice to know it’s there.

Then, just after 4 PM PST, the Moon comes into proximity of a quick string of aspects: a square to h. Zeus, a square to Saturn, then an opposition to Ceres. We may see a chafing of ambition and desire against the sensitivities of the spirit, against the structure, boundaries, and strictures of tradition or the establishment, and then a face-off that involves ‘maternal’ forces, of one kind or another. This can be literally between two mothers or life-giving forces, between Mother Nature and the constancy of change (as one tries to perpetuate the system, and the other insists on re-making it), or between external authorities and one’s own senses, intuition, or emotions; for a scant few this latter authority/ senses conflict will be within themselves. In any case, it stirs things up and may make for an unsettled evening. The upset is largely centered in our own ideas of what should be coddled, what should be controlled or dealt with firmly or what must be given boundaries–it’s good to meet this for what it is, a chance to see where our viewpoint may be skewed, particularly when it may be inappropriately controlling of something external to ourselves.

Grand Trine, Moon in Cancer, Moon in Gemini, My Daily Astrology Diary

By 8 AM PST the Moon trines Neptune and creates a loose Grand Trine with Venus in lovely Libra. Energies of creation, aesthetics, and emotions balance and can be very effectively tapped  for personal use. 10 AM and the Moon follows up with a square to Uranus and Chiron is added to the Grand Trine. This could prompt creative energies manifested either using unique Chirotic skills or that are inspired by hurt–both are classic creative scenarios that will have an originality and  that may appear suddenly, a bolt of generative lightning that can inspire major work or ideas.

Void begins at 1:57 PM Pacific, and ends with the Moon’s entry into Cancer at 5:13 Pacific. In the interim, it might be best to take the afternoon (or whatever it is for you) off. If it’s anything where you are like it is where I am, you are snowbound–after that creative surge, sit back, put your feet up, and have a little cocoa 🙂
