Steel Workers by Winold Reiss c1920 Property of Library of Congress {{PD}}

This Full Moon falls at the midpoint of Mars-Pallas, widely sextile Saturn, apex to a Finger of God with base of Mercury and the South Node, sesquiquadrate Venus, and trine Sedna. With this culmination, we may find ourselves finishing up some smart actions, ones that draw on our past (or on knowledge from the past), communicate it, and by so doing access unconscious and instinctive qualities that we draw into our reality and that thereby help shape it. This likely applies to some project, quest, or effort we see conclude at or near this point, and with only a few exceptions it should bring a good result for all of us. These are things we’ve been trying for, working toward, and if we don’t get what we were aiming for, it’s likely because it’s not really the best thing for us—not an easy thing to accept when we’ve worked so hard.

The wisdom of a Full Moon in Virgo is that the answer to why or why not is in the details; it’s available for examination, open to assessment, and if we don’t see why things have gone as they have, it’s because we’re ignoring the facts, or because we haven’t truly done the work—we’re only telling ourselves we have.

This is from the current ECLIPSE, which can be ordered here—

‘The Triumph of the Genius of Destruction’ Mihály Zichy 1878 {{PD}}

‘The Triumph of the Genius of Destruction’ Mihály Zichy 1878 {{PD}}

This post appeared first in the current issue of ECLIPSE, and was written on 20 February. As we turn our attention now toward Venezuela, we need to remember that what burns, burns–going through hell is no different in Europe than it is in South America, or anywhere else. Meanwhile, I hope you’ll have a great weekend–and if you’re looking for the forecast, please subscribe!

Rioting in Ukraine, centered in the capital of Kiev, has reached a crisis point, with deaths in the double-digits as of this morning—and other than Russia, which hopes to bring Ukraine back under its control, the rest of the world is slow to react. Let’s look briefly at what the astrology might tell us.

Ukraine adopted a Declaration of State Sovereignty in July 1990, but it wasn’t until 24 August 1991 that the parliament officially created Ukraine as an independent state, putting into practice the declaration of Ukrainian law over Soviet law, with a formal dissolution of the Soviet state in December of that year. With a noon chart for the August date, set for Kiev, we get a Sun at 00 Virgo, appropriate for an area that has, as long as it’s existed, been seen as just a region of another nation, until this point; this also fits the character of the country well, as Ukraine was long known as an agricultural producer, the ‘breadbasket’ of the region. The Aquarius Moon is within a day or so of culmination at Full, suggesting a national character both emotionally mature and intellectually astute. There are a slew of planets in retrograde: Venus, Mercury, Uranus, Neptune, Juno, and Saturn; in order, this suggests difficulties surrounding finances/ trade, communications/ free speech, truly remaining independent, in either creative abilities (there may be too much reliance on agriculture, for instance, and too little on entrepreneurial innovation or manufacturing) or this could suggest an inability to clearly understand the way they come across (Neptune is sextile the country’s Ascendant, though we must remember the angles are unreliable)—but Neptune is also trine Sedna (confusion about their own hidden urges, a serious ‘blind spot’) and Neppy also conjuncts Juno and Uranus—again with the independence, empowerment, and perhaps confusion or inability to see how to achieve these. The Saturn retrograde is of special note; it could suggest a government that can’t keep up with the times, that is disorganized, that is always one step behind, a country in total that is perpetually unhappy with those in authority (the quincunx to the Sun—and their history supports this), or where the authorities may have had a poor idea of financial realities or management (shown by Saturn retro plus Venus sesquiquadrate Neptune, with Saturn quincunx the Sun and the Sun out-of-sign conjunct Venus).

Now an unpopular leader has turned away from a trade deal with the West and toward greater enmeshment with Russia—and the people are seriously unhappy about it, resulting in about a month of riots so far—and they turned deadly in the double digits this week. When we look at current transits (as of the 20th) we see what I read as an overripe situation, with lots of significant contact just a degree or so past contact to origin chart energies, suggesting a great deal of tension, issues that have been presented but with no progress achieved. Now we look at what’s still in contact by degree even if past exact, and at what’s immediately approaching—that will tell us which way the whole situation may fall.

Transiting Ceres is currently square origin chart Saturn, and just moving past sextile to the o Sun/ trine o Earth=Ceres likely represents the protesters, people recognizing their own authority and trying to exercise it in relation to the authorities and in-place system of their country—and so far those in charge are oblivious. T Saturn (current authorities) is on its way to sextile origin chart Mars (violence) and then square Jupiter (the public, word getting out, and possibly specifically word getting out via social media—for all its modernity it’s a very Jupiterian thing)=in other words, more violence and trouble ahead, but it may be bad enough that the world really takes active notice, not this half-hearted acknowledgment of problems that’s going on now. T Pluto is trine o Sedna=a blind spot for the rage and violence, and Pluto is also at the midpoint of o Uranus-Neptune=this could imply that rage and the desire for change could suddenly get very radical—maybe in ways the authorities have failed to imagine—or there could be abrupt upheaval that creates something no one anticipated (Neptune rules Ukraine’s Earth, and this could mean some direct material effects to the country itself). T Venus is at 20 Cap—the next thing she aspects is Mars, by trine=violence will cost, thoroughly and easily more destructive than anyone anticipates, and it will take a human toll.

T Mercury and Sun are both near/ poised to opposition to their origin chart counterparts, promising that prevailing energies will certainly test the nation’s identity, even existence, and its ability to process what’s happening and to communicate with each other. T Chiron is sextile Sedna, and so putting its two hurtful cents centered on wounds deep-seated in the Ukrainian psyche via the Plutonian blind spots/ rage expression. T Juno is opposed o Mars=clearly the struggle and violence are over who holds the power, which translates to who holds status and calls the shots—but in opposition, it doesn’t seem the riots will have the effect the demonstrators are hoping for. T Uranus is square itself and makes a Grand Cross with t Jupiter and o Pallas=growing pains! and susceptibility by the public to taking radical, erratic, and unusual measures to try and achieve that desired sense of freedom, as they are convinced this is the wise thing to do—they are willing to risk revolution. The Nodal axis will soon hook into o Venus, the SN by trine=old issues of money and old relationships may end up sending them back toward Russia’s influence. T Sedna is trine o Mars=again, participants in this drama are unaware of the true effect their violence will have. T Zeus squares o Juno=this suggests that ambition and desire are squaring off with a want for empowerment and status—a clash that has yet to resolve, of course.

T Mars sextiles the o Venus-Mercury midpoint and catches o Zeus at the midpoint of the sextile=action is driven by ideas, money, and ambition—but you didn’t need astrology to tell you that! And finally, t Vesta is at 29 degrees conjunct the t North Node=it’s both a crisis in highest values and a crisis in the direction the country’s headed—but honestly, is there anything else worth making revolution over?

11 AM PST of the 16th the Virgo Moon trines Venus. This is a point when within the general unpleasantness of the day we can find an absolutely beautiful experience in a relationship (where things are already going well) or working with the material world–either episode is rewarding, and may help lift us above our day with a transcendent event. 7 PM PST the Moon trines Sedna, sextiles Saturn, and opposes Juno. We may act to empower ourselves and be missing some vital piece of the reality picture. It will likely feel as if we can intuit our way through, but there could be serious missteps if we don’t pull back and wait to see what else may develop. Midnight the Moon quincunxes retro Merc. Messages are garbled, especially those we receive through the emotions, through intuition, or through critical thinking. Just assume that what you’re perceiving is missing some parts or radically distorted, and be cautious in interpreting information or conversation.

A little something on the Valentine’s Day Full Moon in Leo, and on the Inferior Conjunction of Sun and Mercury retrograde on the 15th, from ECLIPSE. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Full Moon in Leo 14 February 2014 at 3:53 PM Pacific time at 26 Leo 12

With the FM sextile the Mars-Vesta combo we can expect a conclusion of sorts in what I’m tempted to describe as ‘sacred action’. I suspect this is about coming to a decision as to how we are conducting ourselves, specifically in how we’re employing our energy, in some important situation, possibly in the home or with the mate. It may be a point when we acknowledge what we are or are not willing to do, or when we see that we have reached a point of dedication—we need to commit—and so make a significant statement to the Universe: ‘This is important to me’. It also applies to the setting of a personal agenda that expresses the Self (Leo FM)—we can expect that what we find ourselves committing to at this time will be a feature of our days for some time to come.

15 February brings the Inferior Conjunction of the Sun and retrograde Mercury. This is a point of inception, even insemination, if you will! Something new is planted, and coming just after the Full Moon, we may look at this point as an expression of the new start that naturally follows a finish like the one brought by the FM. Usually we have a bit of a gap, a winding down that allows dissipation of the culminating energy, in the period through to the New Moon—but this time that culmination requires a new start in order to be valid itself—in this case, without the new start that culmination would be a rest stop, rather than an end. That suggests that through to the New Moon we will be nurturing the new start, and part of how this will happen is with reviews, revivals, and other Merc retrograde mechanisms; it will be an Inferior Conjunction that sparks that needed Full Moon start (or re-start!) where the sacred action includes the kind of editing of the life course that is central to taking a successful new direction or making a successful new commitment.

And skipping ahead to the Spring Equinox with Jude Cowell—

‘Tranquil Pond’ Egelsee near Golling, Salzburg 1899 {{PD}}

8 AM PST of the 2nd the Pisces Moon trines Saturn, sextiles Sedna, and quincunxes Mars. Following the intuition, material delivered through a meditative or sleep state, or a ‘hunch’ in taking action can make for spot-on efforts that have real-world effectiveness and results. 4 PM PST the Moon quincunxes Vesta, requiring we adjust the emotional reactions arising from the home situation, interaction with the mate, and/ or in dealing with those causes and goals to which we dedicate our life energy. Failure to make the needed accommodations could mean that we address these Vestal issues through a distorted lens of illusion or misunderstanding–and that doesn’t make for positive results. 8 PM PST the Moon quincunxes Ceres. Now we must adjust attitudes to allow authorities, Mother Nature, or those with whom we negotiate to, if not have their way, then at least be allowed to exercise their prerogatives without having to deal with any projections we might try to impose–we’ll be allowing another the freedom of expression we would like to consistently enjoy ourselves–fair enough. Void begins at 8:48 PM PST; the Moon enters Aries at 8:55 PM PST.

I’ll skip the ‘whys’ for today, the 25th, and just offer a few helpful hints: if you find yourself jealous of someone else’s status or position, stay away for now—proximity will only spark problems; whatever you do, don’t get into it with authorities—they will not respond well; and Self-talk may be unreasonably negative today—what’s on your mind hints at areas you need to give serious attention to, at some point when you’re on an even mental keel and can be as objective as possible (Perfecting today: Chiron conjunct Juno, Mercury square Saturn, Sedna)

Again, just the advice for the 26th: Hitting the books or making efforts on behalf of the group are probably the least risky ways to use our energy, and make any exhibition of skills low-key at this time—too much flash could draw attention (the unwanted kind) from higher-ups (Perfecting today: Pallas opposed Juno, Mercury semi-square Uranus)

Isn’t it time to get rid of what just isn’t working for you? ‘The Execution of Lady Jane Grey (detail) by Delaroche 1833 {{PD-Art}}

19 January  we are challenged to do what’s smart or use our skills by the social sphere or in order to teach/ learn, and the result is genuine communication. This doesn’t seem headline worthy, until we realize that those who fail to get the word out in a wise or accomplished form will suffer a sense of being out of the loop, or worse, abandoned by the social circle.

Evening of the 20th Pacific time sees the Sun enter Aquarius and Earth into Leo. That brings a gentle but perceptible shift in our attention as it moves from concrete material matters, achievement, and the role and reach of authority and takes up instead questions of higher thought, originality, and inventiveness. At play today: a Grand Square with the Nodes and the Sun-Earth axis, suggesting some tension over personal life direction and how well that manifests our uniqueness as individuals and our philosophy of life; and the ongoing Mystic Rectangle consisting of Jupiter-Pallas-Pluto-Chiron. This config lays the groundwork for some dazzling and life altering accomplishments in the social arena, for smart, healing change, for the sharing of wisdom that can change our world–will you let go of what no longer works, and take part in personal and social reform?

7 AM PST of the 14th the Taurus Moon quincunxes the Sun and squares Juno. Empowerment issues are illuminated; the ‘why’ of our status or effectiveness problems are clear. Believe what is revealed or realized, and decide how to handle it–you need a plan going forward. 9 AM PST the Moon conjuncts Sedna, giving us a period of disconnection–make it a relaxing point rather than a stressful one, by not scheduling important efforts for this period. 6:30 PM PST the Moon trines Venus. A delicious interlude can be yours; encourage enjoyment of creature comforts for yourself and those you love. Hobbies and ‘labors of love’ can be quite successful if undertaken now. Void begins at 6:55 PM PST; the Moon enters Gemini at 10:41 PM PST.

‘A Love Story’ E Phillips Fox 1903 {{PD-Art}}

A bit on the Uranus-Pluto square:

During the period Uranus and Pluto have been squaring up and moving apart, we’ve been given what amounts to ‘free samples’, tastes of our own uniqueness, from deep within, with the point of allowing us to experiment, try on, and choose what new characteristics we’ll be adding to our repertoire to carry us into the future. (This wasn’t the initial major effect of Uranus-Pluto, but instead an emerging influence that will be shaping our future—and so takes on much more significance as we near the end of the Cardinal contact period). Add to this slow-motion transformation the significant thinning of the veil we experienced early in the month, and what we have is a psychic culture where what we imagine, what we idealize, what we fear, and what we are and hope to be, are accessible and realizable in ways we haven’t previously enjoyed, or even imagined.

And for Sunday:

24 November we may find ourselves wrestling with some dark and perverse demons today, the kind that delude us about who we are and make us walk away from our own natural place and power. We do best if we keep our eye on core values or on developed skills; both can ground us in at least a partial sense of identity and competence, and avoiding confrontation with the group is a good idea, too. Though the landscape may be hard to make out, or a complete mirage, we just need to concentrate on our piece of things as represented by those values and skills. Be especially careful as what we see ‘out there’ may not at all be what we get, and decisions are best left until (at least a few days) later. (Ceres sesquiquadrate Sedna, Uranus opposed Ceres, Sun-Earth axis square Neptune)

And something to contemplate:

“The worst of doing one’s duty was that it apparently unfitted one for doing anything else.”

'A Planet as Big as its Star' Artist's concept by NASA {{PD}}

‘A Planet as Big as its Star’ Artist’s concept by NASA {{PD}}

I’m taking off for a few days in celebration of my 29th wedding anniversary; all comments, orders, and correspondence will be held starting morning of the 9th Pacific time until evening of the 11th. Should you find you enjoy this sampler and/ or find it useful, you may want to subscribe and get the full Weekly, the Daily forecast and Daily Image, and free, optional lessons and very-low cost services, delivered right to your email!

9 November Pallas moves into Virgo; the inclination is to be smart and practical, no-nonsense, to take a full accounting of what we have and how to use it–but no, we get a little loopy, a little impulsive, believing any fairy tale we hear–and so perhaps putting ourselves in a bad spot with authorities, Mother Nature, or in a situation where we really should try and negotiate. Channel creative energy into proven outlets or concrete manifestations, and make an overt effort to remain firmly aware of reality–these two measures will keep us out of the worst trouble, and could result in some truly inspired creations or creative ‘forms’ (Neptune quincunx, Earth sesquiquadrate Ceres, Mars sextile Saturn, Mercury trine Neptune)

1 AM PST of the 10th the Aquarius Moon quincunxes Jupiter, asking us to adjust our emotional engagement with the social sphere. It’s an intellectual need as much as it is an emotional one–at the least we should pull back and re-consider any expansion attempts we have underway. 6:30 AM PST the Moon squares Sedna. We may hit an emotional ‘blind spot’ that inspires us to make a ‘wrong move’ (or just a clumsy one). Remove emotion from the action equation at this time. 1 PM PST the Moon quincunxes Vesta. We intuit exactly what we must modify in the intimate relationship, on the home front, or concerning those areas we dedicate our lives to. Adjustment can be quiet and easy, if attended to now–I wouldn’t recommend we wait to make changes, as the next aspect between these two is an opposition–and of course, we’d do better to head a confrontation off at the pass. Void begins at 3:11 PM PST; the Moon enters Pisces at 6:37 PM PST. Luna opposes Pallas; we are shocked by the overwhelming immediacy of our needs, and of our desire to escape, which is clearly unwise. Look outside the Self for some anchoring influences, and a little sensible input. 10 PM PST the Moon conjuncts Neptune and trines Mercury, the latter of which is stationary direct. Flights of fantasy concerning future potentials grab our attention; enjoy them, and study them, for what they can tell you about what you truly want in life. Midnight the Moon quincunxes Ceres in Libra. Nature takes over in relationship–it’s that simple, and direct.

The image for the 11th is a very white cow standing in a very green meadow. The purity of the assets we work with and the areas we work in may be coming into question right now. We’d be wise to note that nothing is as hypernaturally unadulterated as we would hope, and yet we must do our best to maintain an atmosphere that allows the cells to grow in a healthy manner. Instead of railing against things we can do nothing about on a personal level, we can not only add our voices to the cause of a healthy ecology, we can stop one or two of those Self-destructive habits that make our railing about the environment look just a little bit contradictory, at the least.

12 November BIG opportunities come along, but there’s some chafing between our ambitions and what we know to be wise. In wanting to take advantage of the openings that we see, we must take care not to do something we otherwise know is stupid. I think that’s pretty clear. Look to the space Jupiter is now transiting in the natal chart for clues as to what area this opportunity may present itself in, and keep in mind that Jupiter will already be retrograde–that stupid thing we may be tempted to do may actually be a very smart thing, if we’ll only wait until Jupiter is once again direct to do it. (Pallas semi-square Zeus, Sun trine Jupiter)

Enjoy your weekend, and thank you!
