How to Make It Through the Holidays: Pisces

There's a pair of fish in the picture, like the Pisces symbol, right? Perugini c1870 {{PD-Art}}

No matter what you do or don’t celebrate, it’s the holiday season–there’s no way to avoid it. In the newsletter I shared a few tongue-in-cheek suggestions for how to survive this annual time of family, food, fights, fun, fruitcake, and all those other ‘f’ words, and I’ll be sharing a little advice for each sign, one at a time. Your Nemesis, listed at the end of the sign, suggests who might be out to sabotage or just give you a hard time, while your angel is the sign energy you can call on in others for assistance, and your personal elf or cherub is the sign energy that will cheer you up and work behind the scenes to make your holiday special. This is the final installment; scroll back through time for the other 11 signs–and have a wonderful holiday!

Pisces  Some people just don’t get  you, Pisces; you are in touch with the Cosmos, linked to the great All-That-Is, you hear angels singing all year round–so in a way, the holiday season is just your internal world made external, all bright lights, sparkle, and delicious somethings, now much more easily sharable with those you love. So why would you of the diaphanous clothing, gentle humming, and creative holiday centerpiece bug anyone? Because Pisces hears angels singing all year round, and so pays attention to that beyond-nether region, rather than the sister-in-law who’s asking that you mash those potatoes. Nobody likes to feel they’re being looked through, and yet that’s the impression darling Pisces gives to everyone with whom he or she interacts–and during a time when nerves are frazzled anyway, dear Pisces, head in the clouds, seems to be blithely dancing on the very last one. Pisces is highly attentive to her or his surroundings, it’s just that Pisces ‘sees’ all the layers, and so loses focus on the here-and-now–and that can win some complaints as others struggle to, as they see it from a strictly material standpoint, pick up the slack. Often as not, Pisces ends up at some point in tears, suffering under the recriminations of the more materially-focused and literal-minded, feeling unappreciated and misunderstood–and they are. The answer to others’ idea that Pisces isn’t useful is this: Pisces is a magnificent resource that the rest of us just don’t know how to interact with to everyone’s benefit. The holiday season is ripe for use of each individual’s gifts; aside from the obvious creative abilities that can be employed myriad ways, Pisces can be given a task, really any task, while he or she gives their real contribution to the holiday gathering: being sensitive to the atmosphere and interactions affecting each individual, so that Pisces knows before that person does who’s hungry, tired, needs time alone, needs help, or who’s coming down with what, can steer someone in the direction they need, and can link the persons who can assist each other. Pisces embodies the Universal connections we all share; Pisces hears the music, and can share it with us, if we’ll only let them. Your Nemesis this holiday season: Aries, Aquarius, or Virgo/ Your secret angel: Scorpio/ Your own personal elf or cherub: Cancer

Aries, Fist of God, Moon, Moon in Aries, Moon in Pisces, My Daily Astrology Diary, Pisces

Let’s start a little before the 12th begins my time, as around 11 PM PDT on the 11th we see the Pisces Moon sextile Juno in Taurus; we are prone, literally or figuratively, to dream of ways we can become empowered so that we can affect our material world. Pay attention to what’s running through your mind at this point; it will reveal a great deal about what you’re really hoping to gain, and will be especially illuminating if up to now you’ve not recognized the goals you’re emotionally yearning to meet.

By 2 AM PDT the Moon is close to conjunction with Uranus, bringing revelations, especially emotional ones, over the individual role within the group or Collective. We’ll see or realize something that surprises us. Then by 4 AM PDT the Moon is within opposition to Saturn in 29 degrees of Virgo. The feeling will definitely be one of pressure, crisis, or an almost frantic assessment of what’s been built in the life; in any case, a moment of reckoning that we think is putting us face to face with reality–but the reality is this is just a 29 degree expression of tension, with Saturn supplying the fear and the Moon a sense of vulnerability. Wait it out–the Moon enters the Void at 5:52 AM Pacific time, and though this may, for some, temporarily exacerbate those feelings of weakness, they will pass with the Moon’s entry into Aries at 6:30 AM.

The Aries Moon gives the benefit of offering an atmosphere of Self-possession; we can settle down a bit, secure in the right to seek out our own interests. Around noon of the 12th the Moon squares Ceres in Capricorn, giving us a chance to flex our Self-determination muscles; this could be a formidable challenge, as authorities are firm in their idea of what constitutes the rules. It’s at this point we might note the Fist of God formed by Juno square Neptune, both sesquiquadrate Zeus. This either elaborates on the more fleeting Moon-oriented authority challenge, or describes (as it will for some) an ongoing situation that the Moon only brings emphasis to. The Fist implies that one’s personal authority and empowerment are at odds with the Will and ambition of another, and either ideals or delusions are behind the controversy. If this fits a scenario in your life, you may find the Moon bringing forward a direct chance to hammer things out–just don’t succumb to emotionalism or make the mistake of completely ignoring the status quo in your campaign to get appropriate control of your own situation.

3 PM-ish the Aries Moon is within square to Pluto and trine to Mars–uh-oh, this is a lot of testosterone-y energy sources whacking into each other–you need to have those earlier conflicts wrapped up at this point, or the whole upset could go into overdrive. Proceed with caution.

Around 6 AM PDT on the 13th the Moon opposes Zeus; we may see echoes of the earlier situation, or, if we’re lucky, enjoy the way the whole confrontation turned out. We’re into the Dark of the Moon, so much of our reaction and upset during the 12th through to the New Moon could be experienced more on an internal level–but that can be just as wearing as a fist fight–with Aries, it really might be all in our heads!

9-11 April 2010: My Weekend Astro Diary

Moon, Moon in Pisces, My Weekend Astro Diary, Pisces

Calder's 'Flamingo' Chicago photo by John Picken cc2.0

We ought to become as conscious of our thoughts and sensibilities as possible over the weekend and through next week, as those energies will to some extent move into our Collective blind spot when Venus meets Sedna (in orb by the 16th) and Mercury turns around (9:06 PM PDT on the 18th at 12 Taurus 34). Just something to keep in mind as we go through the next few days, the aspects of which suggest to me a lessening of the tension that’s been rampant for a while now–this could free up a little of that mind power that’s been consumed with whatever’s been stressing us.

By 1 PM PDT this afternoon (the 9th) we see the Aquarius Moon go through the gauntlet of conjunction to Neptune and then Chiron, and at meeting the latter the Moon will also quincunx Saturn retrograde in Virgo, and these last bits happen at 29 degrees; a last hurrah of confusion, upset, tension, even deceit—-so by my reckoning, making for a very short Void, lasting from 6:29 PM PDT to the Moon’s entry into Pisces at 6:48 PM. Yes, this differs from some calculations of the Void–it all depends on whether you count quincunxes as major aspects (I do–those who use strict Ptolemaic aspects, such as most horary astrologers, don’t) and there’s also the matter of whether one uses the asteroids, and which ones–so it’s basically a free-for-all, take your pick!

The majority of aspects the Moon makes while in Pisces are easy ones (or at least, moderate in their impact). Highlights include a quincunx to Mars at around 4 AM PDT on the 10th–prior to this, change and exercise of authority flow smoothly, but the Mars aspect requires we adjust our own, or to, egos and assertive urges. This need to adjust to assertions and ambitions, our own and others’, continues through to about 8:30 AM on the 11th, when the Moon conjuncts Jupiter-this should bring good feeling all around, the only real danger being that this goodwill could be based on delusion or a lack of facts–so at worst, a source of mix-up or embarrassment–but for those attuned to Neptune, a wonderful influence.

By the time the Moon hits Uranus about 2 AM PDT on the 12th, any shocks or surprises will be ephemeral, or illusory, accessed through dreams or imagination, a ‘what if’ scenario. All in all, the weekend influence will be mostly one that brings a tiny vacation of sorts, a holiday from whatever’s been bothering you.

I’m hitting the Calder exhibit at the SAM tomorrow–maybe I’ll see you there?

15 March 2010 New Moon: Outbursts of Beauty and Grace

. . . and possibly some sharp words, disturbances to the home situation, and the chance you’ll begin the wisest course you’ve ever chosen. Not bad for a mid-month New Moon in Pisces that just as easily could’ve kicked off a period of feeling drugged out, confused, or steeped in illusion. This time, though, we’ve got influences that leave us attuned and sharp, at least to the degree we’re willing to adjust our approach to our own most sacred ideals (the Vesta aspect).

Dark of the Moon began early afternoon Pacific time on the 12th, ushering in a time for centered calm, withdrawal, retreat, meditation, and appreciation of our world. It’s a time to take a step back and receive what is around us–and if we don’t like what we are surrounded with, then our mandate is to change the environment to something that more closely reflects what we want to be, and to understand that what we are is what we’re seeing–change, improvement, or modification, rather than denial or anger, is the order for this period.

The New Moon arrives at 2:01 PM PDT on the 15th at 25 Pisces 10, and it makes a quincunx to Vesta in Leo, a trine to Pallas in Scorpio, and a conjunction to the exact meeting of Mercury and Uranus right next door (and this will be coming off the Superior Conjunction of Merc and the Sun on the 14th which likely brought illumination, a message, probably through a dream, fantasy or day dream, or through the realization of an ideal or goal (Pisces). This SC is a natural ending to which we must be receptive, rather than a typical Superior Conjunction that brings endings to things we’ve actively planned or worked for. The power of the Universe is displayed in the attractive quality of the energy; let it show you how it works.

But back to the New Moon! The quincunx to Vesta in Leo suggests this is a new beginning in terms of the ego/ identity and what it stands for; we have the chance to adjust ourselves to better fit what we find most sacred, and also the opposite, we have the chance to modify ideals so that they truly reflect who we are. The trine to Pallas promises that wisdom and guidance are ours, whether they have internal or external sources. And the conjunction to Mercury and Uranus says in no uncertain terms, the messages we need to start a fresh lunar cycle will be delivered, possibly with a shock, or through the group, in the natal House where the NM occurs, or in personal lunar matters or the House with Cancer on the cusp.

The Sabian for this New Moon is, ‘Watching the Very Thin Moon Crescent Appearing at Sunset, Different People Realize That the Time Has Come to Go Ahead With Their Different Projects’ http://www.cafeastrology.com/sabiansymbols_degreemeanings.html  This seems to be a way of expressing that new ideas, young concepts (the Thin Crescent Moon) that have just barely coalesced in the mind, are now beginning their creative life–they have leapt to the fore, from amongst a variety of possibilities, to receive the full energy and attention of their creators. This is the most fertile and energized point of creation, when the idea has caught hold of the mind and musters all the force of creative spirit, and the co-operation of the Universe, in order to be made manifest. We should expect outbursts of beauty and grace, if only within our own minds, and should approach with optimism and willingness whatever idea is seeded in us at this time.

16 Feb 2010: Keeping Our Footing on Unsteady Ground

Aries, Moon, My Daily Astrology Diary, Pisces

The day starts PST with that Moon/ Uranus conjunction in Pisces (6:31 AM the contact becomes exact), and as I said previously, look “for a surprise, a spark of Higher Mind awareness, or a moment of emotional anarchy–we may be tempted to project this feeling onto the Collective (via Pisces), or we may have the emotional reaction through a Collective experience–in any case, stay alert, and don’t take any shock too personally, even if it presents itself so.” This can get the day off on the wrong foot for West Coasters, if we prefer steady balance to spontaneity, and for those who are in any way tired or tense, this can be a very trying influence–and one that may cause upset that plagues the mental processes for the remainder of the day (or at least until the Void). For others it can sweep in like an ill wind mid-day, knocking us over with the unexpected, and throwing us out of sorts for what feels like no real reason. For some, it will bring the uniting of the emotional perceptions and what we may see as a spark of genius–nurture this with care, as time will tell whether this is of real worth, and it’s up to us to foster the idea long enough to give it a chance to (possibly) bloom.

9 AM PST the Moon quincunxes the Earth and reality and material circumstances make themselves felt, and we should pay attention to what our emotional reactions to the physical reality reveals; just after noon PST the Moon moves on to quincunx Vesta at 29 degrees, bringing an emotional situation that asks us to measure how effectively we are living our deepest values, honoring what’s sacred to us, supporting the home situation, and perhaps asking how and whether the sex life is serving the emotional needs–a big task if we have strayed of late from what really matters, but one that must be sorted out, with both bodies at 29 degrees.

An 18th century depiction of the Icelandic god Tyr, here associated with Aries' ruler Mars

And now we face the question of just when the Void begins on the 16th. Some will see the Void beginning as the Moon moves away from conjunction to Uranus, while those who accept quincunxes as a major aspect and who use the Earth will look for the end of that aspect, while those who include the asteroids in all chart functions may see the end of the aspect to Vesta as the start of what amounts to a brief Void. In any case, the Moon enters Aries at 4:30 PM PST, and by 10:30 PM we see the Moon trine Mars and opposed Saturn, and soon after squaring Pluto. This takes the energy of the early Aries Moon, that brings a healthy (in most people) Self interest to the fore, and presents us with the problems that ‘me first’ energy has created. It seems we will be confident in our actions, and this will carry resistance from authority or a headlong run-in with the rules, with problems of the destructive, secret, or change kind arriving hot on the heels of our assertive decisions. It’s an energy influence that we’d best handle consciously and carefully, putting the concerns of others on equal footing with our own, if only to avoid our own overreaching, that could bring a bit of an ‘ager backlash’ as a result.

A semi-sextile of the Aries Moon to the exact Venus/ Jupiter conjunction in Pisces in the 6 AM hour PST of the 17th brings forward the ways in which we actively love–a lovely way to start the new day for West Coasters, and a pleasant injection to the day for everyone else, bringing love to consciousness that throws us back on ourselves and reminding what’s most important to us in an effective, moving, and enlightening way.

See and purchase my books Chiron in the Natal Chart and The Astrology of Intimate Relationship here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com

And this offer is still in effect:

In gratitude to all who’ve been so supportive in purchasing the inaugural issue of ECLIPSE, I’d like to offer the opportunity to ask a single, brief question. All answers will, of necessity, be very brief; be patient, I’ll get back to you as quickly as possible, and I’m sure you can understand that I won’t have the time for any follow-up exchanges, though of course I look forward to any comments you may have. This offer is valid only for purchasers of the magazine, and cannot be reassigned to anyone else, and the email used must be the email from which you purchased the magazine–no exceptions. No questions will be answered before magazine purchase. And, in case you’re wondering, it’s not too late–purchase your own copy of ECLIPSE–only $2.95!–and get in on the deal! http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/eclipse-in-depth-astrology-for-the-21st-century/

Moon, My Daily Astrology Diary, Pisces, the Asteroid Zeus, Valentine's Astrology

For the 14th, the Pisces Moon hits Venus in Pisces (how perfect for Valentine’s Day!) and at the same time sextiles Pluto (how characteristic of love itself, exploring and exposing all our deepest deepness!) This suggests that with openness we will know where we stand with love, as well as with other Venusian subjects such as relationships in general, finances, assets, and talents, and that what we see or what is presented to us reflects the core reality of those Venusian situations. We would be wise to heed what we feel (and to pay special attention to the feelings events bring to the surface), and we should make every effort to match those feelings we experience to actual ‘testimony’ in the real world; by that I mean, if your feelings, particularly in relationship, don’t match the feedback you’re getting, then it’s time to look squarely at the reality of the situation these apply to. For instance, you spend three hours getting ready for the big Valentine date, anticipating that this is the Big Night–you’re sure he’s in love, he’s going to propose, or at least ask you to move in with him–after all, he shows up and stays over two or three nights a week, and yeah he comes by pretty late, but he works really hard (and yet you’re not entirely sure at what); meanwhile, for your date he’s four hours late, with no explanation as to why, says you missed your reservation so will just grab some fast food, then right in the middle of his McJunk he gets a phone call and says he has to go–where should he drop you off? Today is the day when you should not let your ideas about the relationship (he loves me! he’s going to propose!) override the reality of it (he’s inconsiderate, disrespectful, and treats you like a booty call).

A conjunction of the Moon to Jupiter (around 5 PM PST) makes the feelings BIG, really BIG, and may give a tendency to project what’s personal onto society at large. If you experience strong negative reaction around this time, look for the individual displacement of emotion that may be occurring; anger at an expansive social entity could be an outlet (both ineffective, and covering a real hurt you would be better off being aware of) for what’s really bothering you. A semi-sextile of the Moon and Jupiter to Mercury at this point means we’ll likely let everyone know what’s on our emotional minds, so those who hope to keep secrets, especially the love kind (Venus-Pluto) will not keep them for long.

The Moon and Cancer, detail of the Ducal Palace, Venice, photo by, and many thanks to, Giovanni Dall'Orto

By 7 AM PST of the 15th we’ve got the Pisces Moon quincunx Zeus, showing us the emotional cost of going full-tilt toward our ambitions and desires (for more on Zeus as a major significator of male energies and issues, see the Winter issue of ECLIPSE magazine http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/eclipse-in-depth-astrology-for-the-21st-century/). This may bring us up short emotionally, leaving us a little unsteady and searching for our emotional footing in key matters of energy use and productivity.

A Grand Trine of the Moon to the South Node and Pallas, simultaneous to her sextile to Sedna (9 PM PST) says that we may look to the past and past experience to get our emotional bearings, drawn on our emotional wisdom, but without success–Sedna makes it impossible to draw on memory cogently at this point, though with any luck we may retain the objective awareness of what is considered ‘wise’ in this instance. Then the Moon squares Ceres, and we’re confronted with the emotional repercussions of either dealing with authority, exercise of our own authority, or both, and negotiation, though reasonable, may not feel like an effective way out of the conflict. Taken together, these indicate an experience that’s unsettling emotionally, and that challenges us to both remain calm in the moment, and to not react from old, reactionary beliefs about authority and its usage we may carry around.

5 AM PST on the 16th the Moon meets Uranus, for a surprise, a spark of Higher Mind awareness, or a moment of emotional anarchy–again, we may be tempted to project this feeling onto the Collective (via Pisces), or we may have the emotional reaction through a Collective experience–in any case, stay alert, and don’t take any shock too personally, even if it presents itself so.

Sending Valentine Love to all my Readers–Thank You, especially for your generous support of my latest venture (ECLIPSE magazine, link above)–and a Very Happy Pisces Moon to You All!
