astrology, Good Day To . . ., The Astro Essence, Zeus

‘Dreams’ By Ellen Montalba 1880s {{PD}}

The 27th Is A Good Day To . . . profit from, share, or invest in the Creative and/ or the Ideals. Dreams come True–or do they? It’s a day when our positive fantasies come to life, our dream of Money or Love may materialize, or what we’ve imagined we’d love appears, happens, or we finally have the opportunity to engage in–and we may suddenly be faced with the way fulfilling our desires isn’t what we thought it would be. It’s not that we find out we don’t want what we dreamed of–instead it’s that when we get it we see that it doesn’t actually support our ambitions, that it adds complications to the desire picture, that it throws up impediments to our goals, that it brings forward conflicts we didn’t anticipate, or in some other way doesn’t serve what we’ve been aiming for. The question then is, which needs adjustment, our ambitions or our dreams?

There’s something else important here of which we should take note: when we hold contradictory dreams, imaginings, goals, or even entertain and relate to contradictory beliefs or standards, we set up a dynamic that almost guarantees both internal dissonance and difficulty creating what we want. We can hold the recognition that something can be two things at once, and we can accept that, without causing friction; it’s when we hold two contradicting absolutes in our minds that trouble occurs. If we dream of a life of freelance mountain climbing with no fixed address but also want a life shared day in and day out with our family and to nest at home, we find that these dreams don’t support each other: we find we can’t live a life of ‘no strings’ and also have all the ‘strings’ that come with intimate involvement in family life and the making of a home.

Or something like this: we believe we are good because we are a follower of ‘X’, which/ who teaches that killing is wrong–and yet we’re okay with killing when we judge someone to have broken another of X’s dictates, or even when someone else has broken that prohibition against killing–suddenly we think we should have the power to punish for the offense–but then that makes us killers, too. How can we still judge ourselves to be adherents to our faith (and therefore ‘good’) if we don’t follow the rules (no matter how good we judge the excuse to break them to be)? Therein lies the conflict, one we may successfully ignore for a long time.

Carrying these kind of contradictory intentions/ standards can have the overall effect of creating drag on our ability to accomplish, beyond any internal discord we may feel (and often this discord exists inside us consciously undetected). Influences like those we are under today can bring out the contradictions, the discord, or can present us with certain clashes within our own presumptions, beliefs, or expectations that can (but no longer should) be ignored.

For a few of us, today will feature a major deception or misperception centered in Love or Money; for some others it brings something that feels like ‘True Love’, and to you I say, Enjoy it! Time will tell whether it’s actually the dream situation it seems to be–and I genuinely hope it is.

ZEUS TAPINAĞI Photo By Ali Hakan İlban CC BY-SA 4.0

(To help you understand what’s happening today, the newly perfected aspects are Venus trine Neptune and square Zeus, and Sun semi-sq Zeus. For those unfamiliar, Zeus signifies our ambitions, our desires, our lusts, even, and a certain hubris that accompanies a passionate insistence that our want justifies our taking–think of Zeus swooping down on any number of individuals in order to sate his appetites, many times deceiving in order to fulfill his desire. Zeus also reps the kind of passion that drives a dream, that helps us set goals, that keeps us moving forward. When you read it in a chart, keep in mind both the positive, hard-working ambition to make things better and to achieve, and the pushy arrogance and inclination to just take what’s wanted–either, or both alternately, can be at work. Too, Zeus may carry an added potential relating to someone who holds power such that an individual seeks to access power through relationship to, often when the kind of power desired would be unavailable to the individual otherwise. See a brief example of this here)

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

Appetite for Life: Zeus in Aspect

aspects and placements, astrology, Zeus, Zeus in aspect in the natal chart

God, by Vasnetsov c1890 {{PD-Art}}

In thinking about our unicorns, I also started to think about where in the chart we might look for a truly direct line to our most characteristic desires, because it’s in recognizing and acknowledging our real wants that we begin to align our life so that dream becomes reality–and Zeus seemed the obvious choice. As the god who reigned over all the other gods on Olympus, Zeus is a mythic embodiment of male privilege and authority who clearly placed himself above considerations of the wants, needs, and even rights of others. He took what he wanted, made no apologies (not even to his long-suffering goddess sister/ wife, Hera/ Juno), and answered to no one–which strikes me as the ‘rugged individualism’ Western society has granted as a right to males (especially white males)–to everyone’s detriment. I think we’d all agree that the unfettered appetites of Zeus, his crass and uncaring behavior, and his obliviousness to the hurt and suffering he caused are undesirable–but the way in which he was able to not just pinpoint his appetites, but to act on them, is very desirable, with the proviso that we are able to identify ways in which these can be fulfilled that do not violate our highest values (Vesta), our relationships (Venus), or our Soul’s intents (the Sun), and certainly, that do not violate the rights of others. Easy natal aspects of Zeus to other bodies or points (some conjunctions, sextiles, trines) may show us the way toward our desires (or, point to what impulses we can trust in discovering and fulfilling these desires):

·         Zeus to the Sun: ambitions and desires serve the Soul’s intents and so the Life Purpose. This is no doubt a sweet aspect to have, as it makes for smooth alignment among impulses, desires, and goals; they all mesh successfully with identity and expression. In hard aspect can indicate conflicts between the appetites and the goals.

·         Zeus to the Moon: here the intuition and emotional perceptions aid (or hinder) fulfillment of the desires. The sign in which the Moon sits will profoundly affect the meaning of this Zeus–and may dictate the forms and/ or style used to express ambitions and desires. Nurture and/ or pronounced sensitivity will definitely be involved, and ‘receptivity’ may be a keyword in ambition manifestation; it may be a matter of attraction, as much as anything else.

·         Zeus to Mercury: communication is vital to ambition attainment, so much so that some form of communication may actually be the ambition itself. No matter what the desire, this individual will be saying something with every choice–it’s just in the nature.

·          Zeus to Venus: this brings relationships front and center with the desire nature, and with worldly and material ambition. This is not necessarily as $$ or thing-oriented as it sounds; this can apply Love (with a big ‘L’) to ambitions and desire expression, making for goals that are beauty or caring-infused. Again, a very attractive quality to the ambitions, so that fulfillment seems to come to the individual with little effort (or is denied inexplicably, with hard aspects), often through relationships.

·         Zeus to Mars: contact between these two can set up a scenario where the individual only discovers (or achieves) her or his ambitions because she or he must fight for them (or in struggling for autonomy of expression they find their desire/ ambition), or where they find desires stimulated by the need to best rivals, or to state the ‘I am’ loud and clear. Choice and action are extra important with this contact, having an impact on reaching goals even when one would think the choice or action is irrelevant to achievement.

·         Zeus to Jupiter: the individual may find opportunity in or through the social sphere, or must bow to educational needs or a religious hierarchy in order to meet ambitions. Or, the whole world is their oyster, and the life an oyster banquet! This person’s desires seem to get broadcast whether she or he wants it or not, and others may see them as excessively ambitious, competitive, worldly, or grasping, even when they are not.

·         Zeus to Saturn: opportunities are met through established structures and organizations; mentors and authorities may need to ‘grant’ one’s desires or goals. May have achievement delayed until he or she thoroughly embraces Self-discipline. Can get stuck in a loop of ‘poor me’ and lack of achievement until he or she completely accepts responsibility for the life; then others come out of the woodwork to offer support.

·         Zeus to Uranus: again, opportunities through the group–or one must be highly original in order to fulfill goals. Erratic behavior or ever-changing desires could de-rail achievement. Spontaneity must either be central to or completely eschewed in the life, dependent on which is missing from behavior, in order to meet and fulfill ambitions and goals. Uniqueness may make one a standout–though that’s not always good.

·         Zeus to Neptune: staying on track can be a problem, as this contact can indicate shifting ambition targets and a propensity to follow delusion and accept unreality as legitimate. Imagination and creativity can take one straight to the top, as long as one is careful not to be solely Self-focused along the way.

·         Zeus to Pluto: Opportunity may consistently come into the life via endings or the destruction of systems  or entities–which the individual then resurrects in a new, improved form. Must watch the Self in interaction–showing one’s power may come too easily, and can come across as overbearing.

Interestingly, contact of Zeus to other asteroids seems to emphasize pitfalls found within the ambitions. For instance, with Vesta one may see oneself as having an aggressive prerogative to force others to do what one wants (the Will as sacred), while to Juno and Ceres we see power struggles featured, to Chiron says we may use wounds as an excuse not to achieve (or as fuel to achieve, making the most of the Chirotic wound or skills) & with Pallas a need to learn to follow the inner wisdom or wise counsel, and avoid the impractical, tempting as it may be.

13 December 2015 Perfecting Ambitions

The world really is your oyster; a new ‘I Am’ can be born. ‘A Water Baby’ Herbert James Draper 1899 {{PD}}

Recently we’ve been treated to displays and revelations specifically focused on the ambition picture, both for ourselves and for others; now we’re past that need to rebel, the urge to be unreliable in a misguided show of independence, we’re no longer choosing in reaction to the group or some imagined sense of oppression, and finally, finally, we are ready to express our original ideas, our unique concepts and approaches, in the areas where our ambitions lie. We have the energy, focus, and strength to pursue exactly what we desire–and, whether we are conscious of it or not, we are in some way entirely endowed to achieve precisely what we want. This may be the point where many stumble: over the idea that they are already empowered, holding the status, or receiving the support needed to make their ambitions live; they don’t, can’t, or won’t believe they already have what they need, and this will be the thing that stops them–though of course, they’ll see it as a lack of a vital lynchpin that, if they’d only possessed it, would’ve fulfilled their dreams. It’s one of those periods when the whole world conspires to empower you, to give you what you want–why wouldn’t you open your arms and accept it? (The aspects that created the past effect were recent oppositions of Mars and Zeus to Uranus; aspects perfecting today are Mars conjoined Zeus, Juno parallel Zeus)

Just a Little AstroEssence for 24-25 September 2012: ‘Empowerment: What it Looks Like, How to Get It’

‘Two Geisha Girls’ EA Hornel 1894 {{PD-Art}}

The 24th of September the Sun sextiles Juno and Earth conjuncts Pallas. These are highly positive, offering a spotlight that points out exactly what our empowerment should look like, and how to get it, while wisdom is found in the messages contained in our surroundings, and in skillful employment of material assets at our disposal. Can be a big day, one that can ‘set us up’ positively for some time to come. While on the 25th . . .

. . . Mercury conjuncts Zeus–we are confident and express ambitions and desires well, at this time–which only raises our chances of having them fulfilled. A few warnings: Venus sesquiquadrates Uranus–though spontaneous changes can come to relationships or finances, it’s best not to push; and Mars is semi-square Pluto, priming the temper pump, in a way that will probably take victims (both expressers and targets) by surprise.

An Open Letter on Juno and Marriage

Juno, marriage, relationship astrology, Zeus

Dear Seeker,

I noticed you searched yesterday for the term ‘Juno conjunct Jupiter marriage.’ I have no idea who you are, so I hope you won’t feel intruded upon that I’m addressing this directly; after all, the only thing you were doing was looking for answers.

I admit, I felt a little start when I saw the phrase; the first thing that went through my mind was, ‘This person may have big trouble!’ I know, it’s not a very diplomatic thought! But the concept of an expansion or magnification of the Juno nature within a relationship is not necessarily a pretty one. ‘Why?’ you ask, ‘Isn’t Juno a marriage indicator, and contact is a positive sign that two people are meant to be together?’ And my answer to that would have to be, No.

Briefly, here’s why: Juno/ Hera and Zeus/ Jupiter enjoyed a three hundred year honeymoon, but the second they returned home to Mt. Olympus the fur started to fly (literally: Zeus had a taste for ladies-as-animals). The after-honeymoon relationship consisted of Zeus doing whatever he wanted, and Juno angry, vengeful, and punishing over his transgressions. His lack of respect for the marital relationship in general, and his goddess wife in particular, is the core of the potential downfall of a strong Juno connection.

So, much would depend upon the sign, situation, and aspects of this conjunction–is it between the charts, or within one partner’s chart? If it’s interchart, which partner has the Juno, which the Jupiter? Is this a man and woman, or two men or women? It’s important to ask the right questions, as Juno functions differently in the chart of a woman than it does in the chart of a man. In a woman’s chart Juno is about Self-empowerment, specifcally that enjoyed through relationship, while in a man’s chart Juno suggests what kind of person and behaviors he will see as ‘wifely’ or appropriate to a mate or other partner.

Now, one possible exception to the more negative scenarios would be that this shows a true uniting of Juno and her husband (Jupiter). With positive contacts with other planets and points, and with no stressful attitudes related to the Juno of either chart, there’s some chance that Juno in one chart conjunct Jupiter in the partner’s chart would be a very good, even a prime instance, when Juno does indeed promise marital bliss (or at least, it might keep the relationship in a perpetual honeymoon period, which is probably the very best thing we can hope for with an interactive Juno).

So, Seeker, if you should happen to wander back here, and would like to know the skinny on your situation from my point of view, please leave the horoscopic particulars in the comments section, and I’ll take a look and offer what I can.

And if I don’t hear from you, I wish you the very best of luck and happiness.

Julie, your Astrologer-in-Waiting
