astrology, Good Day To . . ., Jupiter-Pluto conjunction, The Astro Essence

By an unknown Etruscan master, c470BCE {{PD}}

The 4th is a Good Day To . . . appreciate the wisdom in spontaneity, the beauty and worth inherent in our current reality (and of course, for some of us, we’ll have to look extra long and hard, but it’s there), and above all, refuse to engage in what the illustrious Stuart Smalley would’ve termed ‘Stinkin’ Thinkin”. We will be sorely tempted to exaggerate our anger and fear, to decry the current social situation as permanent, and to scare ourselves with the facts and the inevitable changes we see promised in them. This is a moment when facing what is remains vital; at least for today, the way to handle our anxiety is to examine our ambitions and desires and be willing to modify them to better suit the changes we’ve undergone. It’s not a failure but a strength to acknowledge what’s outside our control, and we exhibit a healthy resilience when we see how recent events have altered our outlook, and so altered what we see as worthy and desirable in our lives, making obvious that our goals and aims need to reflect that change. Too, the unexpected can offer significant benefits, if we’re open to the surprise and the revelations of Higher Knowledge that can arrive out of the blue, so don’t succumb to pessimism or the temptation to paint our lives as tragic, when we’ll respond much better to hope and the shape and forward impetus it can bring to our lives.

astrology, Good Day To . . ., The Astro Essence, Venus in Gemini

‘Beautiful Betty’ By Albert Lynch c1890 {{PD}}

The 3rd is a Good Day To . . . act and choose with the future in mind. We are filled with creative impulses and our active imaginations can, in both negative and positive ways, run away with our thinking and perceptions, so we need to be aware that our grand inspirations may be fantastic, or fantastically delusional. That only means that ideas should be noted, but action on them delayed until we can gain a bit of distance, and so a bit of perspective. Venus enters Gemini today, predisposing us to notice the beauty in our ideas and thoughts, and hopefully to translate that into loving attitudes toward others and in communications overall, as well as aiding us in shaping those inspired creative ideas into effective messages delivered through the Arts. Too, money and assets may linger on our minds, but again, we’re better off thinking about things than taking any action, just yet. We can see the beauty in planning, and should take advantage of it.

astrology, Good Day To . . ., The Astro Essence

‘Fairies Looking Through A Gothic Arch, or The Fairy Passage’ By John Anster Fitzgerald 1864 {{PD}}

The 1st-2nd are Good Days To . . . pursue that changed dream. We need to acknowledge that things have changed, and so have our true aims and wishes. We have been hurt, one way or another, and part of that hurt is recognition that what we were reaching for is no longer as desirable, in light of current circumstances, as it once was. Right now, what manifests best is something we truly hold some authority in or power over, something that’s, in that over-used term, ‘in our wheelhouse’. Use what you have, and this will reveal either the new dream itself or the best path toward forming or realizing that goal.

astrology, Good Day To . . ., The Astro Essence

Rembrandt c1654 {{PD}}

The 31st is a Good Day To . . . recognize that certain realities will hit us–but that’s no reason to despair. What we formerly thought smart may be transformed by fear, anger, or through the real-world situation our own actions and choices reveal–and we don’t want to be reactionary, to give in to that. Change is good at this time, if based on wisdom and practicality. Our saving grace is found in trusting our instincts, as well as acknowledging what we ‘know but don’t know’, as these factors will both prepare us for what’s to come, and reward us by offering a ‘next step’. However, don’t confuse thought, and especially not ‘mind chatter’, for the instinctual and knowing nature. The mind, given the lead, will take us in the wrong direction, if it’s not thoroughly informed by the natural world, particularly the part that lives within us.

astrology, Good Day To . . ., Mars in Aquarius, The Astro Essence

‘Mars désarmé par les Grâces (Mars Disarmed By the Graces)’ By Mossot {{PD}}

The 30th is a Good Day To . . . value your health, and think about your goals. Making plans to further ambitions is the perfect thing to do, as we are attuned to what needs to change in the empowerment picture to get where we want to go. We also benefit from altering bad habits, the worst possibly being the tendency to keep people who aren’t good for us in our lives. Today’s the day to send them packing, and put your own well-being first.

Mars follows Saturn into Aquarius, suggesting that the Higher Self helps guide the ego, if we’re open to it, and we may be more receptive to using modern methods to address issues. We are also likely to find a surprising capacity to innovate, to invent, and to be spontaneous, no matter what our usual attitude. Make sure you don’t use the intellect as a weapon. And it will probably be much easier for us to think before we do–which is nothing but a good thing.

A Good Day To . . . 28-29 March 2020 + A Bit About Saturn in Aquarius

astrology, Good Day To . . ., Saturn in Aquarius, The Astro Essence

‘Forms of Saturn’ Drawings by Christiaan Huygens, 1633-1645 {{PD}}

The 28th is a Good Day To . . . listen to the facts, because that’s where we find the essence of wisdom, as well as the smart thing to do. We may be inclined to base action on belief, but the reality is that we honor our values by basing choices on knowledge, rather than faith–and honoring knowledge fosters natural change, and in change we find (fortuitously, almost ‘accidentally’) both Love and Money. A different formula than we might otherwise follow, but one that is aligned with rewarding those who respect what’s smart and practical, and so contribute positively to the social order.

Not much new emerges in terms of perfection between transiting bodies on the 29th, so now might be a good time to take a look at the impact of Saturn’s recent ingress to Aquarius. First I want to say that even a major zodiacal ‘heavy’ like Saturn changing signs doesn’t actually change much beyond the ‘background hum’ the shift in lens provides, at least at an individual level. For each of us it’s Saturn’s relationship to our natal planets and points that really counts. When it reaches orb of our various placements, Aquarian Saturn exerts one of three potential influences: it suppresses/ delays matters related to or ruled by the affected energy or indicated by the natal House it’s transiting; it denies or removes something that appeared to be feasible in relation to the contacted energies, placement, and rulerships; or it manifests/ brings into reality a related something applicable to transited House or point/ body of the natal scenario. Saturn either takes ‘it’ away, or makes it concrete, with the possibility that the form it takes wasn’t exactly what you were imagining.

‘Temple of Saturn’ By Luigi Bazzani 1894 {{PD}}

In each case, the effect often registers abruptly within our consciousness. It seems the Saturnian ‘turn’ comes out of the blue, but it’s really that we have been ignoring realities, charging forward, sure we’re going to make it–hard headed, as we embody a Saturnian state–and now the Universe reaches out, stops us, and this is consistently (whether we understand it or not) to our benefit.

In Aquarius, Saturn, maven of rules, regulations, and restrictions, may cut loose, temporarily releasing chaos, or making change through rebellion, as the status quo is tested. What’s ‘old’ may be mistaken for revolutionary, and what’s firmly established may put a ‘modern’ face on things. Dangers center in adhering too strictly to the letter of the law (the Aquarian fetish for taking an intellectual approach too enthusiastically applied), to see a radical change to the status quo as positive, even when it might throw everything into a negative chaos, and abruptly quitting long-term efforts or established relationships, especially of the individual to a group.

The 27th is a Good Day To . . . think about your current reality, and then make the most of it (and possibly substantially gain) by doing the smart thing, the right thing, the thing in line with your true beliefs, the thing that benefits all of us. Opportunities come in this round-about way, and what’s light-hearted, entertaining, or relationship or profit focused reveals a deeper, more serious purpose. It’s a day of Self-trust, and via that trust and a commitment to deal with what’s real, a day that can carry forward profound meaning as to personal purpose. That’s a lot of potential; do your best.

You’ll feel much lighter if you examine (and so exorcise) those wounds. ‘Wings of the Morning’ By Edward Robert Hughes {{PD}}

The 25th is a Good Day To . . . embrace our hurt, and look closely and with compassion at exactly where that injury came from. I know! Sounds like precisely what we’re trying to get away from, right now–but maybe that’s the point: in facing what’s actually caused hurt, we take the power away from the imprint, the memory, the situation, and re-claim it for ourselves. We do this today and gain, as well as take a step toward supporting our mental, spiritual, physical, and emotional health–and it’s especially vital that we do, as the 26th shines a bright and unforgiving light on our wounds–and that requires us to access two ‘guides’ to actions, choices, and behaviors: we must listen to our own instincts and accept that wispy info that we ‘know but don’t know’, and we must respect both genuine authority (we know that when we see it!) and Mother Nature herself. Both show us the way to heal. Trust yourself, trust your authentic inner voice (rather than the ‘borrowed’ ones we’ve allowed to build a home in our heads), and don’t listen to the ‘crowd’ or succumb to the pressures of the social order.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

A special and heart-felt Thank You to all who reached out through the comments on the last post. It was lovely to hear from each of you. Be well, my friends.

New Moon in Aries 24 March 2020 ‘It’s All About The One’

‘King David: “Oh, that I had wings like a Dove, for then would I fly away, and be at rest.” Psalm 55-6 By Frederic Leighton 1865 {{PD}}

By ‘The One’, I don’t mean that magical someone who, we are taught (especially when we are little girls) will change our lives–or am I? I’m talking about each one of us–and in that sense, we are indeed ‘The One’ who can bring about change, hopefully for the better. Required isolation is putting the emphasis back on Self-responsibility, on taking the needed initiative individually–and this New Moon reflects that.

Moon and Sun meet at 4 Aries 12, at 2:28 AM PDT of the 24th, just before conjoining Chiron and the Black Moon Lilith point. This suggests a strong new course for healing by paying attention to all those things we’d rather ignore–or, in a less likely scenario, a deep, primal wounding via those factors we’ve insisted on ignoring–but in Aries, we are each, as a single entity, allowed to take our pick, to make our choices (or to garner the results of those choices already made).

The New Moon combo is moving toward perfection of a semi-sextile with Uranus in Taurus–something we don’t always need to take note of, but in this case, we do, because it’s approaching, rather than separating–and again we see the importance of the individual, this time as playing a role within a group (the dual symbolisms of Uranus), and all of this figuring in to the welfare of the environment (Taurus) as the group and individual are both part of it, and as they affect it.

The New Moon also forms a semi-square to Venus in Taurus, which in this chart is in its own sign and rules Earth, Juno, Zeus, Sedna, and Uranus, as well as a semi-square to Ceres, which places the New Moon at their midpoint. We could call this ‘The Worth of the Earth’; the bodies under Venus’ rulership suggest that we come to a new assessment of the value of human autonomy (Juno), the costs of ambition on a larger scale than that of the individual (Zeus), and of the price of paying no attention to our instincts and what we ‘know but don’t know’ (Sedna). The NM at the midpoint says that a new path must be found, a new balance, between Ceres in Aquarius (the demands of ‘the modern’ on Mother Nature, a new, progressive view of our relationship to and obligations to Nature and the natural order) and Venus in Taurus, which in a least one expression tells of the human need for material comfort and sustenance, which are gleaned from the environment and its products and assets.

In fact, the square between Venus and Ceres forms the base of a Fist, with the apex the Earth in Libra: it’s only by cooperation, by caring for others as much as we care for ourselves, that the New Moon tension can be resolved and reach some sort of accommodation between Nature and Humankind, a resolution that supports the health of the Earth, as well as the health of her inhabitants.

There is also the way the Sun-Earth axis, joined by the Moon, continues a Cardinal Grand Cross/ Square, for those who accept the Nodes as valid configuration points (long-time readers know I do). The need for action is both clear and fundamental to the way forward; we must deal with what we’ve wrought, in a way that handles both material and spiritual realities, and that recognizes the  rate of the passage of time is a crucial factor to success.

Though it’s a wee bit wide for a New Moon sextile, we can include Vesta in Gemini, if only because the symbolism is so striking: our ultimate values, what we find sacred and dedicate our energies to, are renewed, re-dedicated at this New Moon, as each individual takes action, makes our choices, takes on a new way of thinking (Gemini) that defines both our priorities and the way we will live day-to-day (around the Vestal hearth).

‘Wing of a Roller’ By Albrecht Dürer 1512 {{PD}}

The Sabian symbol for this New Moon may confound us, at first: ‘A Triangle With Wings’. A flying inanimate object–I can’t help but picture a cold geometric shape with the feathered wings of a dove–makes an absurd image, until we think of the way a triangle is balanced, each leg in equal proportion to, and supporting, the other two. It’s this state of true balance that the New Moon is sparking in each of us, via the mechanism of individual choice, responsibility, and commitment. The wings are the symbolic equivalent of the spiritual component of all endeavors, reminding us that a kind of flight of the spirit is what we are always seeking, always aiming for, working to lift ourselves ever ‘higher’–and this image tells us that lift is achieved by attaining that balance. Usually we see this as an inner function, a personal goal, but the Aries New Moon tells us that spiritual ascension is possible only with the correct measure given each of the three legs of the triangle: the individual, the Collective, and Mother Nature Herself.

That’s pretend me, waiting to get back here! ‘Awaiting the Return’ By Eugene de Blaas {{PD}}

We’ve moved, a ferry ride away from our old house, but what feels like a world away from Seattle. The new place is in a forested neighborhood near the water. Eventually I’ll show you some pictures of my favorite things here, particularly of two giant cedars, a pair of does that graze behind the house, and of a group of trees, dead but still standing, like an elongated, bleached bone crown on the hillside. It’s peaceful here, a perfect place to recover from the cold–or maybe light flu?–that’s lingered for the past 3 weeks, both delaying my return and continuing to leave me more fatigued than I expect to be.

So, I missed our daily chats, but really–I leave you all for five figurative minutes, and somebody gets a pandemic started! Humans are constantly generating, constantly creating, and so is every other living thing. This can’t entirely be a surprise, especially since we’re in prime flu season in the Northern Hemisphere; but that doesn’t make our new reality of isolation, and considerable uncertainty and fear, any easier.

Rather than re-tread ground that many others have examined astrologically, ad infinitum, I’ll just say that the current Capricorn stellium of Pallas, Jupiter, Mars, and Pluto, all sited within less than a 3 degree span of one another, do speak of breakdown, of cells and the social construct, with normalcy the victim of virulence, of drastic, extreme choices, of belief as it clashes with ‘the facts’, and in some, a determined effort to defend the status quo, even as wisdom tells us change must happen, for the good of the public, as well as the survival of the individual.

This grouping is headed toward, at different rates, trine to Sedna in Taurus, toward a meeting of change and destruction and the need to make choices, over and over, that dovetails with what we ‘know but don’t know’, with what we instinctively react to, and with what we have judiciously remained unaware of via our ‘blind spot’–that last encompassing the Taurean realities of Nature itself and the way certain among us have bet that we wouldn’t meet a crisis, so we didn’t need to be informed, didn’t need to care–and the wheel turns, and we see what a bad bet it was.

But what I want to draw your attention to is a Cardinal Grand Square, involving the Sun/ Earth axis, along with current players Chiron-Black Moon Lilith in Aries and the Nodal axis. As the Sun-Earth move toward closer engagement by degree we see the tension of the Cardinal imperative to do something pushing against the individual injury/ weakness and the way we may be tempted to ignore or deny the role of the individual, or the importance of the choices the individual makes and the actions one takes, in what is happening–and all of this charts the course forward, as the future rolls out from what’s been done and dealt with (or not) in the past.

I don’t mean to heap responsibility on the individual; I’m only trying to say that the astrology speaks to me of the vital role each of us can play, simply by doing what needs doing, as long as our choices are informed by both the facts and our awareness of the needs of the Collective. Our individual efforts may be small, but they are all building blocks in the well-being of the planet and humanity–don’t ever think they are inconsequential, that they don’t matter–and really, it’s likely to be that in taking responsibility on a personal level, we gain in ways we haven’t yet thought of.

I want to know what you all need from me at this time. I can’t promise I’ll be posting every day, as I’m still not up to par, but I’ll do my best. Put suggestions in the comments, and I won’t make them public–you’ll just be talking to me about what might help you on this page. And many thanks to all those who commented, or wrote directly to me while I was away–it’s appreciated, though you should know that I don’t generally see these things until I return. When I get off line, I really get off line!
