Oh Sagittarius, is this your version of looking back? ‘Sonnenuntergang’ By Franz Stuck 1891 {{PD}}

I don’t mean we all used to be wise, and now aren’t, shall we say, the sharpest sticks in the pile; I mean instead that memory holds the answer to something we’re experiencing now. We see the beauty in our own empowerment, in our own agency, the worth of owning our authority, walking our talk, and combined with what we’ve learned from earlier in life, we are offered a unique chance to heal a deep, persistent wound–and in the healing, release a tremendous surge of creative energy. Do the work, and the ability to manifest, in all forms imaginable, will follow. Fail to complete the ‘assignment’, and you’ve still taken significant and highly useful steps that will be instrumental, one way or another, in shaping tomorrow (Pallas trine SN, Venus conj Ceres, Sun sesq Chiron and trine Neptune)

Today’s word image is: what seems to be a visit, letter, message, or signal from the future is really an echo of the past that applies to now. This directly reflects the meaning of the current aspects. I’ll let you puzzle this out for yourself, as it will definitely be a highly individual, and maybe very slight, thing that only you will recognize as valid; here’s a little humorous inspiration (or is this an explanation, taking the mystery out of things?) should you need it.

Your Weekend 3-4 November 2018 The Abyss + Urge Adjustment

{{PD}}

Saturday the 3rd we’re trying to achieve some kind of détente between a need to express our empowerment, to really feel it, and an urge to act and express out of hurt. We are conscious of how unproductive our wounds are, how expression that springs from them may cause more problems than it solves, but we feel a deep need to have our emotional upset heard and validated–and so we are vulnerable to harming relationships or financial situations, if we allow a sense of victimhood to override the practical and effective, to lay waste the eternal values we believe in. Processed well, our feelings will foster compassion, even as we focus on Self-responsibility, letting go of any need to make an emotional (that is, destructive) point (Finger of God with base of Chiron-Juno, apex retro Venus).

Thoughts may feel as if they’re perpetually on the edge of tipping into a destructive abyss, but our conscious alignment is with Love and caring–so step away from the edge by stopping to smell the flowers, by being grateful for what we have, and by transforming the mental attitude by concentrating on transforming what we truly have the power to effect (Sun parallel Venus, Mercury semi-sq Pluto).

Sunday the 4th Pallas moves into Libra, focusing our sense of productive expression of skills on the ways these may benefit alliances, relationships, aesthetic matters, and our personal financial arena. We must adjust urges, balancing spontaneous needs to rebel or be unpredictable with what’s wise or practical, balancing the need to feel ‘in charge’ and show dominion over our ‘territory’ while listening to and honoring that still, small voice of conscience, instinct, and inner knowing. A willingness to adjust serves ambitions and helps curb what in all likelihood is a too assertive sense of Self (Sun parallel Mars, Mercury semi-sq Zeus, Uranus qnx Pallas, Ceres qnx Sedna)

Our weekend word image is a mirror with ‘smoked’ glass, rendering it unable to offer a reflection. Know it or not, we are all currently having difficulty seeing who we are. This weekend offers several opportunities to see ourselves more clearly–the only question is, will we recognize that information when we see it?

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

From the series of the Concubines of Emperor Yong-cheng-2
Unknown – Scanned by Szilas from the book Kínai költészet (Chinese poetry, ISBN 963 9283 06 1) Before 1732 {{PD}}

If we try to go at things head-on, nothing goes right; if we take a round-about way, we are likely to get what we aim for, or at the very least, not muck it up as we will if we are too direct, too assertive, too Willful. Trying to exercise our options, we come up against ‘the Facts’–it’s how we respond to these that will determine the outcomes today.

The group may oppose our efforts, and relationships may generate frustration, as they seem based more on fantasy than reality, but it’s in a willingness to make the healthy response, the one that does no harm, that aligns behavior in interaction with ideals, and that looks for the actual opportunities available (as opposed to the ones we insist should be ours), that we find a remarkable and resilient peace, and an uncanny sense of completeness that removes the anxiety born of an ambitious insistence on getting it done.

(Jupiter opp Juno, Venus sesq Neptune, Sun sesq Hygeia)

Today’s word image is a puzzle completed but for one small missing piece. What little detail in your life is holding you up? Have you considered the picture may never be complete, that what there is now is all there will ever be? The compulsive need for a sense of completion can deplete us and make us spend inordinate amounts of time trying to make something happen that just won’t. Learn to live with the missing piece; rather than seeing its lack as a failing, try to see it as representing the unseen, in a matter that is otherwise so totally spelled out.

1 November 2018 Misdirection

‘Wotan has summoned Loge to encircle the sleeping Brünnhilde with magic fire.’ By one of my favorite illustrators, Arthur Rackham 1909 {{PD}}

We know it’s smart to behave as if we are empowered, arbiters of our own domains, and yet old wounds make it especially difficult to do; we resist what’s wise, our attention fixed on all we’ve been denied, missed, or that we see as unjust. Misdirection is how stage magic works–we aren’t looking in the direction of the action, we’re looking where we think it will be, and by doing so we miss the origins of what seems miraculous. The same kind of thing happens today: wisdom we already possess holds the key, and it’s up to us to look in the right direction to see the opportunities presented, the ‘luck’ that manifests, or the knowledge offered that we need right in the moment. Hint: the social sphere may be the vehicle for our enlightenment, or it may be that taking an optimistic attitude in the face of what seems hopeless will bring benefits, and look to the skills offered by your natal Chiron placement for clues as to what you can best contribute to your own success at this time.

Part of the Byōdō-in Temple at Uji (Uji Byōdō-in no ichibu), from the series Souvenirs of Travel II (Tabi miyage dai nishū) By Hasui Kawase {{PD}}

Today’s word image is an individual meditating in a Buddhist temple, intruded upon by a politician who is busy campaigning and heedless of the atmosphere or surroundings. This is a symbol of glaringly inappropriate behavior, where someone ostensibly working for your benefit (even for you) is not only insensitive to what’s happening around them, they are so Self-focused they make it clear they’re really working for themselves, not you. Is there someone you’re counting on to ‘represent’ you, or to see to your interests, who fits this image? Time to dump them.

31 October 2018 The Secret Unexpected

‘The Whisper of the Muse: Elizabeth Keown, G.F. Watts and Kate Keown’ By Julia Margaret Cameron 1865 {{PD}}

Expect the unexpected, especially from partners, mates, and those with whom we interact socially. Venus opposes Uranus from the 00 degree of Scorpio, then backs into Libra; the pattern suggests a reveal, a secret generated or held that prompts erratic, unusual, or desperate material choices, and in this mystery we may be the one with the secret, or we may be the one who acts precipitously in what amounts to a response prompted by things known by the Higher Mind but not the conscious one. Once that plays out, we see Venus back into that last, stressed degree of Libra, shunting all the tension into relationships.

We may see in others or experience ourselves the unhealthy need to dominate (Ceres qnx Hygeia), which exerts its own destructive influence, and thinking, too, may be erratic or, if we’re ‘tuned in’, groundbreaking or successfully drawing on Higher Mind to inform our decisions and attitude. Proof of an attuned state follows in the way we can easily bring ideas into the material realm–and proof of skewed thinking shows in blocked pathways or in ‘mental obstacles’ that leave us feeling stumped about correct procedure or direction. What we need to know, though, is that what occurs today is being guided by our Higher Selves; there are certain things the Soul requires to live out its mission, and without even trying, today we’re setting those circumstances up/ in motion (Mercury parallel Saturn, qnx Uranus, trine NN, Sun nov Pallas)

I’d like a little sliced tomato with that. Photo By Scott Bauer, USDA ARS {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a tomato. Do you think it’s a fruit or a vegetable? Are they delicious or disgusting? Do you love what comes from them (marinara, pizza sauce) but not the fruit itself? Consider how subjective (and sometimes extreme) each individual’s feelings are about the humble tomato–and take this as a prompt to consider how much you may be projecting onto someone or something. Our preferences or assumptions can so thoroughly color our perceptions that we may not see something as it is at all, but only as we’ve cast it in our minds, to the point where we may believe it’s something that it’s not (and we’re back to fruit v. veggie territory). Mother Nature, aka Ceres, is at 25 Libra today, and may help pinpoint what you’re applying the ‘tomato principle’ to in real life.

30 October 2018 A Point of Reckoning

‘Le Premier Disque’ By Robert Delaunay, 1912–13 {{PD}}

Retro Venus creates a T-square with the Nodal axis today, suggesting we may be at a life direction determining point in the Venus transit cycle–and with Chiron parallel Hygeia, even the hurtful things we do to ourselves or others, or that come at us from externals, will still somehow work out to our advantage. This will be (though it may not feel like it, so subtle may be the workings of the Universe) a time of reckoning in the archaic sense, “a bill or account, or its settlement”. Expect the bill to come due or be paid, but in either case, know that this is only the first notice; you’ll (or they’ll) have time to work it out, to make it all right.

Mercury will oppose Juno at 29 degrees of their respective signs, then enter Sagittarius and perfect a semi-sextile to Venus and a novile to Zeus. This is a mini-plat map of our minds and how they’ll be working. There’s tension over empowerment, whatever our issue with it: will we be able to do what we want to? will others oppose us? do we oppose others’ exercise of their prerogatives–or does it seem they’re overstepping, that that’s why we object? Then we suddenly want to escape, so either head toward what can inform us, or head for the horizon–and this makes for some discomfort in relationships, or makes for minor financial stress, but may give us a genuinely brilliant boost in ambition realization or desire fulfillment.

Go ahead Taurus, play a role or serve someone. ‘Geisha no zu’ By Yamakawa Shūhō c1925 {{PD}}

Today’s word image comes from me asking myself, OK, what’s the image for this day? and looking up to see the title of a book jump out at me, ‘Think Like a Freak’. Well that certainly resonates with my Aquarian Ascendant, so I’ll offer a couple of options for every Ascendant sign; take it with good humor, and consider the many variations these can imply. For instance, if your Ascendant is Gemini you might be tempted to be offended by the suggestion that you ‘think like a gossip’–but the utility of that comes if you are doing something and you think like a gossip, you will know exactly what those actions might stir in others of a negative quality–and so can avoid any ‘gossip repercussions’. For Leo it might be that you need to be a little more Self-centered, and this is your prompt.

Aries: Think Like a Leader or Pioneer

Taurus: Think Like a Geisha or Gourmand

Gemini: Think Like a Networker or a Gossip

Cancer: Think Like Mom or The Most Sensitive Person You Know

Leo: Think Like a King or The Most Self-Centered Person You Know

Virgo: Think Like an Accountant or ‘Lady Bountiful’

Libra: Think Like Your Partner or Your Enemy

Scorpio: Think Like You Have a Secret You Need to Keep or a Mystery You Need to Solve

Sagittarius: Think Like a Teacher or a Bachelor (Someone With No Attachments)

Capricorn: Think Like The Person in Charge or a Person in Denial

Aquarius: Think Like a Freak or Like Someone in the Avant Garde

Pisces: Think Like You Are The Essence of Creativity or Space Out and Don’t Think At All

Have a great day!

By Pieter Brueghel the Elder – Christian Vöhringer – Pieter Bruegel. 1525/30-1569 Tandem Verlag 2007 (h.f.ullmann imprint) S. 129 ISBN 978-3-8331-3852-2, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=9483474

What’s wise is what we respond to instinctively, we act to fulfill ambitions and find a minimum of obstacles and barriers before us, and we feel knowledgeable and powerful. There is an internal harmony that all else flows from; our job is to make sure that what flows from us is a true and positive expression of our ‘best Self’. Simple, and yet a true challenge, for how do Will and the reality picture reconcile, where does our imperative stop and others’ rights begin, and how do we handle forces within ourselves or from others that are deliberately hurtful or destructive? Your mantra for today: follow the impulse but consider the impact.

(Pallas trine Sedna, Mars semi-sq Saturn and trine Zeus, Venus parallel Mars, Mercury trine Chiron, conj Jupiter, and parallel Pluto)

‘Portrait of the Artist’s Son’ By Eero Järnefelt 1887 {{PD}}

Today ambitions are undermined by things we ‘know but don’t know’, by our own ‘blind spot’ material (especially matters that affect our own or others’ security or comfort), and by an inability, for whatever reason, to trust our own instincts. The perception is that we’re on shaky ground, and the reality may fall anywhere along the spectrum from solid footing to earthquake.

What can we do brilliantly? Think, plan, cogitate, use. our. brains. If the mind can address it, we should spend today doing just that, as ‘actively’ and consciously as possible. Don’t allow physical stillness to trick you into believing you aren’t doing anything–getting plans in place and the facts right is the very best use of your time.

(Zeus contra-parallel Sedna, Ceres contra-parallel Hygeia, Mercury sxt Pallas and opp Sedna)

‘The Last Throw’ By Charles Robert Leslie c1840 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a pair of dice. Life really is a game of chance–quit waiting for a guarantee that things will work out as you like. Though I’m in danger of sounding like a meme, I’d say it’s all about the journey–the destination will take care of itself.

27 October 2018 Standards or Achievements?

‘Sea Babies’ By Max Bohm 1914 {{PD}}

Upholding our standards and values, or implementing our Will with little fuss or need to bow to others? The first is a somewhat static position, but a stance we might need to take in order to think well of ourselves, while the latter could send us riding roughshod over the feelings and needs of those around us as we do do do. We can’t both display our standards and achieve, today; even worse, we may find ourselves having to choose between exercising our prerogatives (again, without answering to anyone else), or centering our actions and reactions in our sense of hurt or in a need to offer skills (with a further challenge of matching those skills to what’s needed around us–which we may not be able to do!)

The most effective course may lie in staying attuned to the reality picture, and doing what’s mentally healthy, however you might define that. It might mean eschewing experimentation or refusing to go out on a creative limb in favor of what you know to be the most solid reasoning, the most practical or sensible alternative, or the option least destructive to you, others, and the environment. It may feel like a sacrifice, this putting-on-of-the-brakes, but it’s actually time to re-align our thinking with what’s reasonable, with what’s meaningful in a real world sense, and for at least some of us this may seem tragically lacking in glamor. It is, and that’s the point: we need a solid, healthy base from which to take our flights of fancy, and today is a day that requires we either take steps to secure that base, or we take action, and the need for others or a secure position be damned.

(Perfecting today: Vesta sesq Juno, Chiron contra-parallel Ceres, Mars nov Chiron, Mercury trine Hygeia, Sun sxt Saturn)

Does anyone actually count these, to help them sleep? ‘Sheep in front of haystacks’ By Jean-François Millet c1874 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is insomnia. What does not being able to sleep mean for you? Even if you’re not (yet) in a period of insomnia, it may be time to take steps to insure you don’t get into one–so try to do one or more of the things you find soothing, relaxing, that help you sleep when you need to. Current aspects suggest a certain subtle discord that some may respond to by being extra wakeful–but a little attention will likely prevent this from becoming a truly debilitating possibility.

By George Grie – Own work, [1], Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=3298456

We are still too prone to being misled, to rejecting what’s healthy for what’s practical, or embracing what’s conventionally deemed wise even when it’s not good for us individually. Two things can put us on the right track: hook ideals to creativity and imagination, to keep efforts from going in completely the wrong direction, and think on the actual reality situation as it exists right now–therein is something of genius, waiting to inspire you.

Today is also the Inferior Conjunction of Venus in her retrograde to the Sun. This should mark the ‘low point’ to any review of or stress caused in the life due to Venus’ backtrack. You can start to re-build the Venusian goals here, mostly through concrete responses that are reversible, should you change your mind on direction.

(Mercury nov Saturn, Neptune sxt Vesta, Pallas opp Hygeia)

Today’s word image is an old song, that sounds like it could’ve been written yesterday. And I quote:

“It was a slow day
And the sun was beating
On the soldiers by the side of the road
There was a bright light
A shattering of shop windows
The bomb in the baby carriage
Wired to the radio

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is the long distance call
The way the camera follows us in slow-mo
The way we look to us all
The way we look to a distant constellation
That’s dying in a corner of the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don’t cry baby, don’t cry”

For those who don’t recognize these lyrics and the awesome use of accordion that accompanies them, I have a link–
