The Essence for the 1 July 2011 Solar Eclipse: A Diamond’s Potential

We start July off with, what else? That third eclipse! It’s a Solar (New Moon) eclipse, at 9 Cancer 12 on July 1st at 1:53 AM Pacific Time. As usual, we stick to a tight, 2 degree maximum orb–but are overruled by a compelling configuration.

Though it’s slightly outside our usual parameters, the fact that this is an eclipse begs for the inclusion of a Grand Cross, made up of the Sun/ Moon combination opposed Earth/ Pluto, squared by the Saturn/ Uranus opposition; no other bodies fall within our strict two degree, major aspect rule. What does this indicate?

The most obvious implication is that the eclipse kicks off a Cardinal Cross ‘crisis’–but crisis just means some combination of stress, opportunity, and action–the important part might be that, with the Sun/ Moon filling in the Cardinal T-square to a Grand Cross, it funnels the power and energy of an eclipse into an extant aspect–and possibly blows it up.

The most likely manifestation dynamic is this: the crisis will be set off by some matter of the House in the natal chart where the eclipse itself falls; this will in turn ‘light up’ the Cardinal T. In the most general terms, we are likely to see in our lives change to structures, rules, or boundaries and/ or partnerships that seemed permanent or permanently stuck in the present form, with the ‘revolution’ driven by a unique expression of Self-Will, or by the way the individual is compelled by the group.

The Sabian for the eclipse degree is: ‘A Large Diamond in the First Stages of the Cutting Process’ This suggests it’s either the start of a process that will bring forward some facet of ourselves we’ve never before known we possessed or it will bring forward a new matter (or life situation or structure, possibly in relationship) about which we will care in a major way (Cancer placement).

To see it all, subscribe! The latest issue includes a piece on transits and cycles (‘The Sea Inside’), one on what makes an extraordinary herbalist, the complete analysis of the Solar Eclipse, plus day-by-day forecasts up to the July Full Moon–buttons at right (scroll up) Thank You–and many thanks to my wonderful readers, for their comments, feedback, and generous support–subscribers, the Vesta book is on the way! 3 February 2011: Decision Day

ECLIPSE Newsletter, Moon in Aquarius, My Daily Astrology Diary

Photo by Andreas Praefcke Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported Thank you Andreas!

It’s decision day–or maybe not, considering this excerpt from the Lunar outlook on the ECLIPSE readers protected page:

The Moon in Aquarius may have to struggle for our attention; with Sun conjunct Mars also in the sign of the waterbearer, the emotions may feel shunted to the side–it may be like the ego/ identity asserting itself will take center stage, and the feelings will be filtered through the intellect (Aquarius). It may make for a disconnected feeling that seems to be all ‘I am, I want.’ Sensitives may be just that; like an open wound, we may seek to assuage an unattributable sadness or hurt, but the mind makes a poor band-aid, and we could end up feeling woefully neglected in our quest to just feel better.

I’m going to spend the day meditating on whether to continue public posts at all; being ripped off is not a good feeling, especially when the perpetrators hide behind cutesy screen names, which are supposed to indicate they are One with Nature and therefore what they do is GOOD, and who become indignant, screeching about their rights, when they are asked to remove stolen material. I won’t even approach these people anymore. The internet seems to have spawned a group of users who believe that to exploit the work of others is their privilege; it’s already driven some of my colleagues to leave the scene entirely. So, I invite those who want to continue to read what I have to say to subscribe–this seems to be the only way I can control access to my work, and to earn a decent wage. I know many are on tight budgets–but after years of showing up, day after day, and delivering free content, only to have it taken by others, I’m fairly sure I’m getting off this merry-go-round. Consider that you don’t go to work for free–and neither should I. Here’s an example: say I make lovely ceramic ash trays !!! and there are samples of my ceramic creations that I give away, and we are at a fair (the internet) where everyone has a table. Say someone comes to my table and takes armloads of my samples and puts them on their table. They think my samples are pretty and believe they will draw attention to their work. When I object, they say, “But you’re giving them away, so why can’t I take them and use them to get people to come to my business? I’m not selling them–I’M TAKING YOUR WORK AND GIVING IT AWAY”–but they are selling memberships (or other things) at their table–And that’s where they miss the point–it’s my work, and copyright laws allow me (and my heirs for seventy years after my death) to decide what happens to it–not someone trying to drum up membership sales at their Magical Mystical Fairy Forum–where most of the content is ‘borrowed’ and that’s what you’re supposed to pay them to see!

So, I will spend the day thinking on it–and believe me, this is the last time I’ll address it. (I hear a massive sigh of relief! I think that was me and everyone else!) Consider that the cost of a subscription to my newsletter is equivalent to one latte a month, is less than the cost of a single pack of cigarettes, one movie ticket, or one microbrew, per month, and that the newsletter and protected page provide guidance, astrological instruction, and a wee splash of entertainment–and then you can make your decision, too.

Many thanks to those who have subscribed–watch for an EXTRA! to your email later today.

New Year, New Newsletter, New Post

ECLIPSE magazine

from Synagogue Beit Alpha, Northern Israel, 6th century, courtesy NASA

As ECLIPSE Readers know, I’ve been looking to fine-tune what I’m delivering in the publication to better suit both my readers and myself; to that end I’ve decided to make the quarterly journal into a newsletter, delivered directly to email, between one and three times per month (with possible updates in between). This allows me to deliver much more material in a shorter format–you get more material, I get to experiment with more variety, and worry less about time-consuming formatting and the chance that larger files could be rejected by some recipient’s email servers. Material will still be in-depth, but in shorter pieces, and more of them than were fitting into the magazine, so that over the three month time period that an issue used to cover, you’ll receive a lot more.

Will it cost more? Yes–you’ll be getting more for your money. I know I may lose some readers because of this (I may lose a lot of readers because of this!) I once heard someone say, in relation to the cost of their own services, “Not everyone is supposed to be able to afford everything,” and something like that may apply here; it’s a matter of priorities, of what something is worth to you, and I won’t be one bit offended if readers decide this method isn’t for them. We all have to make decisions that serve our best interests, myself included, and, particularly when I consider the time I invest (after all, you come here because of my years of study, because of what I can offer you), and review the cost of other amenities in Western society (roughly the equivalent of a first-run movie ticket, popcorn, and a drink for a 3 month subscription=$15) I feel the price is reasonable. For those who don’t want to subscribe, there will still be abbreviated daily (or covering several days) posts here, where I’ll try to convey the essential, need-to-know data, and short articles and commentary at ‘Been There, Done That.’

The Newsletter (still called ECLIPSE) will be illustrated just as the magazine was, and deliver a letter from me (let’s call it a communique, that’s so ’70s radical!) articles, shorts, and by-the-week forecasts, as well as New and Full Moon reports; there will still be a Protected Page here at the blog for the detailed Daily Moon picture. Your subscription will start from the day you enroll, and last three months out (for instance, 3 Feb as the sign up date takes your subscription through 3 May). The first issue features articles on Amor and Sappho, Solar Arc for beginners, a three-week ‘look ahead,’and a review of the amazing astrological imagery of Darren Aronofsky’s film ‘Black Swan’ I hope you’ll join me for the journey!

PS There’s no link up yet to order; I’ll let you know right here as soon as there is! Thanks!

And there’s a new post at ‘Been There, Done That’ on the entry of the Sun, Mars, and Ceres into Aquarius.

Thank you!

A Look at Willie Nelson

ECLIPSE magazine, real life astrology, Willie Nelson

As one of the subjects of the article ‘The Artisan, the Builder, and the Harvester: Taurus, Capricorn, and Virgo-the Earth Element in the Natal Chart,’ ECLIPSE readers know of the importance for Mr. Nelson of staying grounded–the exact opposite of the pursuit of the drug-induced high for which he was arrested on the 26th of this month. His tour bus was crossing from Mexico into Texas about 9 AM when approximately 6 ounces of marijuana was found. Considering previous busts, Nelson and his crew were obvious targets for a search–and from our examination of his natal aspects previously, we know that staying focused and paying attention are two things Nelson can’t afford not to do. So what do the transits at the time tell us?

One of the first things that jumped out at me was that the actual event probably occurred slightly before the 9 AM time given, as that would put the Vertex exact to the 12th House Zeus–fate meets desire and Willfulness, in the forms of Feds and dope. Slowpoke t. Sedna is sextile 12th House Pluto, ruler of the 4th of deepest Self, suggesting Nelson has long-term, perhaps life-long, problems knowing who he really is at the core. T Uranus is conj natal Ceres in the 8th, implying a rebellious attitude toward those in authority, and a maverick way of relating to Mother Nature’s products–pot included. He may see both authority and cannabis as ‘belonging,’ in some way, to others, making drug-use and a laid-back attitude his little way of stealing Promethean fire for mere mortals–a bit disingenuous when you’re as big a star as he.

Probably most illuminating is that natal Chiron in Taurus in the 10th (in itself a sketch of ‘the Wounded Cowboy’ as a professional persona) is receiving a sextile from t. Uranus and squares from t. Neptune/ Chiron, and a quincunx from the ASC–all pointing toward stimulation of the primal wound, which may be seated in ‘having’ in a material sense (Taurus), and the things that may arise from this when influenced by rebellion and spontaneity, delusion or fantasy, and an occasion of feeling persecuted. T Mercury was also trine Uranus, suggesting an off-the-cuff nature to thoughts and ideas, and, again, leaning toward rebellion.

Pallas/ Mars were transiting together and quincunx n. Pluto, perhaps saying that wise action was known by something deep within, some core need to move toward destruction, may have been at work, giving the ‘take a chance’ nature of transits through the 5th (Pallas, Mars, Mercury, NN, Pluto, and Ceres, as well as the ASC of the event chart) extra power, with contact to the natal Pluto the reason for such a risky move. The Leo Moon was at the time of the event semi-sextile the n. SN–ego (Leo) had led him down this path before.

My Daily Astrology Diary

The energies are in little clusters, like tiny bombs, waiting to surprise us. Merc/ Mars in Sag, Venus quincunx Uranus=everyone may feel the urge to reach out and tell it ‘like it is,’ at least from their point of view. It makes for exuberant communication that can pass on a great deal of knowledge, whether the one communicating knows it or not! So, the danger is cheerful verbal diarrhea, or some really effective (possibly in ways not anticipated) teaching, preaching, or travel plans. If you’re in a vulnerable position, information-wise, take some care to protect yourself. The indiviudal can feel open to the group, to love, and to big earning scenarios that take an extreme amount of caution and finesse to negotiate.

For the rest of the forecast, get ECLIPSE, which includes a password to the Private Pages here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/the-latest-new-fall-2010-eclipse/ The material is for serious students, professionals, and accomplished amateurs, the forecasts are for everyone, and at only $4.95 for 3 Months of access, detailed transit pictures, and extra features, it’s a bargain!

Thanks to All for your input; though I was essentially trying to find out what was missing from ECLIPSE, I found out a lot of other things, as well–it seems the mag will stay as it is for now, with the goal of catering to those who want a more in-depth experience related to this site.

3-4 November 2010: The Struggle

Moon in Libra, My Daily Astrology Diary

Today’s Libra Moon meets Saturn and h. Zeus–and likely leaves us exhausted, as we struggle. Against what, you may ask? You name it, we’re likely to fix on and attack whatever catches our fancy (Moon sextile Mars), and the worst part is, most of what we find attack-worthy will feature the shape of our own internal dragons, whether they wear the guise of our partners (Libra), and external opponent (someone who insists on being unique, to what seems like our detriment, the social circle, or a group that asks we conform–quincunxes to Jupiter and Uranus). We think we know how to handle it (Mars c. Pallas) but it’s far too easy to slip into illusion, fantasy, or to apply creative energy in an area better suited to a clear response to reality–gettin’ fancy with it only adds to our problem (and may be an expression of our own need to give creatively). Mischanneling energy is a big possibility over the coming two days, and much of the blame lies with a true need to be aware of our own power (the gathering of Pluto/NN/Ceres)–our awareness is focused on sorting things out (Sun c. Vesta) and our attention has a hard time going anywhere else for long.

ECLIPSE magazine, Moon in Virgo, My Daily Astrology Diary

Retro Venus, Mars, and Pluto/NN are the core of the action today and early tomorrow–the Will, personal action urge, and aggressive energies will be fired up (likely unconsciously) and the challenge is to understand that what seems like a perfectly reasonable demand that you’re issuing is really a reflection of other upsets, deficiencies, or imbalances to the love nature. Target areas may be our closest relationships and/ or artistic ventures.

The End of October 2010: Evaluating How Much is Too Much

ECLIPSE magazine, Melanie and 'Brand New Key', Moon in Leo, My Weekend Astro Diary

The Sun’s weekend sesquiquadrate to Jupiter has got me thinking: how much is too much? I think wherever and whatever the transiting Sun is touching in your natal chart is the arena where you’ll be examining this question. With a Leo Moon we will be in the mood to look at how things stand and how much of a drain on our essence they are. Juno sextiles Vesta, making it easy to measure empowerment v. what’s truly important, what we dedicate our lives to, and with Mars moving toward conjunction with Pallas, we’re open to the wise move (or at least, this weekend, to planning for it). Saturn is close enough to h. Zeus that we can subdue our basest desires and tone down our ambitions and this means we don’t have any problem keeping what’s truly in our best interests in the forefront as we make choices and, I hope, have a little fun.

Have you seen the commercial with the baby in the walker speeding along to the Melanie song, ‘Brand New Key’? I totally enjoy both the baby and the song, a particular favorite from my youth. It tells a story, but it’s arguable what that story is; the ‘I’ of the song is certainly independent, but is she a little loopy? “I ride my bike, I roller skate, don’t drive no car/ don’t go too fast but I go pretty far”According to Wikipedia and other sources, Melanie was born February 3, 1947 in Astoria, New York. Unfortunately we don’t have a time, but we can look at the planets, and extrapolate, since Melanie herself wrote the song–and the independent, free-wheeling (ha!) vibe of the song is a perfect expression of her four Aquarius (Mars/ Pallas/ Sun/ Mercury) and her three Sag placements (South Node, Juno, Venus) showing independence and the ‘go’ urge. But then I wonder: is she a bit stalker-ish, or is she just expressing herself? “I asked your mother if you were at home/ she said yes, but you weren’t alone/ oh, sometimes I think that you’re avoiding me/ I’m okay alone but you’ve got something I need” If one person’s actually avoiding another, they usually either feel threatened or don’t want to deal with the other person’s crazy. Melanie’s Saturn is over in Leo, opposed the Sun and Mars– pride might keep this person from going all fan-boy on someone–but there’s also opposition to that Sun from three more Leo placements: h. Zeus, Earth, and Pluto. Hmm. Depth, intensity, passion, and the material–so Melanie can certainly put herself into the place held by the persona of the song, and imagine a girl obsessed with someone. With her Cancer Moon, Melanie is an empathizer–and her ability to see such a specific viewpoint, along with her musical talent (Sun trine Neptune) gave us this charming song.

The new ECLIPSE should be available at some point this weekend, and offers articles on Venus and likeability, Jupiter and the social urge, the Earth Houses in the natal chart and the way we ‘ground’ ourselves, and features a great article on the US natal chart and the ‘then is now’ echo of history by the great political astrologer Jude Cowell; plus a fantastic, exclusive three-month forecast by Karen of Ravenesque! Includes access to a private page here at the blog that will contain an ongoing forecast from me, and charts, articles, and discussion. I’m centralizing forecast materials that used to be scattered between the magazine and this blog–you all know about the recent theft dramas–and I am by no means the only astrologer to suffer these–I know I’m disappointing some, but I had to decide how much is too much, for my own peace of mind. From now on most posts will be something like the paragraphs above–short and, I hope, sweet.

Have a great one!

16 October 2010: Notes on the Weekend

asteroids, Moon in Aquarius, My Daily Astrology Diary, My Weekend Astro Diary, Superior Conjunction

Just a few things I’ve noticed that I’d like to bring up, along with a plug for Twilight’s Arty Farty Friday http://twilightstarsong.blogspot.com/2010/10/arty-farty-friday-paul-gauguin.html–you’ll love it, especially if you enjoyed the section on Gauguin and creativity in the Summer Eclipse http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-summer-2010-eclipse/.

This weekend we have an active dynamic that says to me we’ll make some power plays, confident in the wisdom of our choices, but the results will be more an accumulation of something planted much earlier, and so impossible to know from our current reasoning whether our choices are good ones (unless, that is, we can take a moment and see that others may respond out of the past). We see this in the approaching Superior Conjunction of Mercury and the Sun (Superior referring to the fact that this is their conjunction when Mercury’s direct); Juno’s trine to the North Node (and learn all about Juno in the natal scenario and in synastry here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/); Ceres, the North Node, and Pluto are all moving toward conjunction with one another (material on Ceres here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-eclipse-spring-2010/); Ceres at the rough midpoint of Vesta/ Pluto; other than Merc, the Sun makes no contact to the personals and neither does Pluto, and Mars is a bit estranged, too, but Jupiter jumps right in a touches just about all of them (a sesquiquadrate to Venus, quincunxes to the Sun and Merc, a trine to Mars) and that means tension x5, bringing forward grandiosity, exaggeration, and the temptation to overdo ‘it’ in those prone and/ or operating unconsciously–others may ‘broadcast,’ perhaps unwisely. With the Moon tracking through Aquarius this weekend, the tendency will be toward cool and collected, but for some this will overemphasize the rational, to the point where relationships become equations and the belief is we can think our way out of anything–not so, just to be forewarned. Add a little dose of your own Moon to things, to keep the emotions open and yourself consciously connnected to more usual ways of feeling/ intuiting.

And have an excellent weekend!
