Albert Anker ‘Kind mit Puppe’ (Child with Doll) c19th century {{PD}}

Hello Poppets (defined as “a small figure of a human being used in sorcery and witchcraft”–yes, I’m sure that’s what I meant!) I’m back with a wee look ahead, here in the lee of the Full Moon. Yesterday’s events most likely re-defined something for you, something related to the House where the FM fell. And look, it wasn’t so bad, was it? We’re up and walking around already! Whether there was a tad of trauma involved or not, the change (even if it doesn’t seem so yet) is for the good–and if you were paying attention, it probably gave you a pretty solid idea of what to do next.

Today (the 2nd), we hear and say some surprising things; communications can turn on a dime, can shock, or we may receive a message (ultimatum?) from the group. Gird your loins. As to material matters, navigate them using instinct, and be aware of the potential for tripping over your own ‘blind spot’ material.

On the 3rd there may be a lot of unnecessary grousing, irritation, and behavior that threatens, just a little, the current power structure. Where you stand in the power hierarchy determines whether this is good or bad šŸ™‚ Bonus: you may get a great idea or two, or understand how to expand interests or please the social sphere–but it’s not the best time to act on that. Note the inspired thoughts, and wait to implement.

On the 4th deep breathing is in order; enjoy the oddly quiet interior landscape. The good news is, that suggests we won’t be thinking about ourselves excessively, or mulling things over too much. We get an idea of what to expect by asking, What’s usually going on when we’re not focused on ourselves?

The 5th is problematic: we fixate on (or at least see) everything in our reality that “needs correcting”. The key is to recognize just how much of this is within our control to change–and how much is our own fault, because we’ve ignored or neglected matters. Please note: non-defensive communication brings cooperation, possibly reward, and definitely improves relationships.

Today, the 6th, the Sun opposes Pluto–which means that heavy-hitter is conjunct the Earth. The Sun also quincunxes Pallas. The implication may be that the environment and/ or material matters pose danger, a threat of destruction, or the opportunity for re-building or even transformation, in the Capricorn-connected areas of the natal chart, and in those ruled by Pluto. It’s smart to be willing to handle that Plutonian element of change head-on. Own your personal power (don’t pretend to be smaller than you are!) and things will move ahead productively.

And finally, by Tuesday the 7th the mental faculties are shining bright–and possibly become set in stone. Accepting that thinking must remain as it is today is a mistake that will cause us to act in ways that conflict with our highest values (and possibly damage our relationship to the mate or the home circumstances), and that may encourage us to sublimate upset and funnel it into relationships, or into financial ‘acting out’. Stay flexible, my friends; the only way things will go badly is if we are set on seeing ourselves and our thinking as ‘perfect’.

Check out my books here and watch for my new book on Vesta, coming this month! Services open up later this month–thanks for making me so busy!

Now that the Solar eclipse has occurred, we can pick up the pieces and look ahead–to the Lunar eclipse of 4 April. I’ve referred to the upcoming Lunar eclipse as a ‘drop the microphone’ event, one where we’ll experience the true impact of this period, if not immediately then in circumstances that begin their development at this point. Wherever the Lunar eclipse at 14 Libra 24 falls for you may only be the tip of the iceberg–because the Lunar-Solar-Earth axis creates a T-square with Pluto that is likely to bring Underworld extremes to the surface through conflict, destruction, and yes, transformation that can be as drastic as a hormonal change or a house burning down or as deeply meaningful as taking spiritual vows or having an epiphany that changes your entire Being. The Sabian Symbol for the event is ‘Circular Paths’, suggesting we may be coming full circle in some important way. So what do you think?

Charles Demuth 'The Circus' (1917) {{PD}}

Charles Demuth ‘The Circus’ (1917) {{PD}}

For 20 September: empowerment at this particular time comes from facing it all (even what we’d rather not), standing up for ourselves and our right to be respected, and involves a willingness to at least question those things we typically consider sacred—they might need a fresh, objective look—and any ways in which we’ve been bending over backward to maintain harmony with the mate or on the home front may also need to be examined. We may have bent too much, thought of ourselves too little—and if we don’t see our needs now, rebellion against those we see as holding power or authority over us may rear its head. What we don’t want to do is fall into patterns of ego or temper from the past—these will get us nowhere in a hurry. Dark of the Moon begins late PM Pacific time. (Perfecting today: Black Moon Lilith parallel Juno and square Vesta, Uranus quincunx Ceres, Mars sesquiquadrate the South Node)

For the 21st: 5 AM PDT the Leo Moon quincunxes Earth. Our surroundings may challenge us emotionally or give us pause. Void begins at 5:48 AM PDT; the Moon enters Virgo at 8:54 AM PDT. 7 PM PDT the Moon creates a T-square by opposing Neptune with both squaring Mars. We may choose or act in spite of a lack of inspiration or imagination–that may leave us very sorry with the results.

Today’s image is a nurse preparing a shot for a small child. Are you anticipating something not-so-pleasant that is meant to be ‘good for you’? Sometimes we make ourselves do things purely out of a kind of superstitious, ritualistic belief that it will protect us; consider the true efficacy of those preventive measures, before subjecting yourself to them.

And on the Sabian for the Lunar Eclipse of 8 October: ‘Nature Spirits Are Seen At Work In The Light Of Sunset’. This reinforces the culmination factor of the eclipse (the sunset) and reassures us that, even if this is an ending for you with no clear-cut new persona yet showing itself, nature is preparing the elements necessary–all you need to do is wait. The conjunction of Uranus to this point emphasizes the spontaneous nature of what will occur, as well as its uniqueness to the needs and personality of each individual

To see it all, please subscribe! Here’s what’s in the current issue of ECLIPSE, just out, featuring the full report on the upcoming eclipses in October, as well as the Libra New Moon–and have a great weekend!

The Solar Eclipse April 2014: A Renaissance

'The Birth of Venus' Botticelli late 15th century {{PD}}

‘The Birth of Venus’ Botticelli late 15th century {{PD}}

The Solar eclipse occurs April 28-29 (depending on your location) at 8 Taurus 51, a New Moon that only sextiles Neptune; everything else is outside even a generous orb, with Mercury just days past Superior Conjunction (if this were moving toward the eclipse point I would consider counting it) and Mars, though moving retrograde, outside the orb for a quincunx. That lays it all on Neptune and the Sabian for this eclipse, ‘A Fully Decorated Christmas Tree’.

A Solar eclipse is when the Moon arrives at a point just right between the Earth and the Sun, so that the Moon appears to be not just conjunct the Sun, but to be aligned directly between Earth and Sun; our view of the Solar orb is blocked (occulted), at least from particular points on Earth relative to the path of the eclipse. It’s an instance, in symbolic terms, of Lunar sensibilities temporarily blocking the light of the Sun (objective consciousness) from reaching Earth. That suggests that Lunar issues for a time overwhelm Solar ones. Normally as the Sun moves from sign to sign we see our attention drawn to each new chart area, and facets of that chart area are ‘stirred’ by the stimulation of the Sun’s light; in one of those areas, the one where the Solar eclipse occurs, we find that for the 6 months between the initiating eclipse and the next Solar one the energy that would typically draw our regard takes on an emotional, subjective lens, one where intuition and our feelings trump the clear, unblinking light of the Sun’s relative objectivity.

The New Moon, eclipse or not, also indicates new starts; so, we’re looking at a new beginning that may be born of ideals, fantasy, or creative application (Neptune), and that could represent (the Christmas tree) a time of celebration, could usher in an ‘ideal’ period, or present the beginning of a personal creative initiative (birth) or renaissance (re-birth). We’re looking at a pair of factors (the Sabian and Neptune) that describe personal ideals–but particularly with the Sabian, we have to note that the celebration is based on our relationship to the unseen, on faith. It’s not related to any specific religion, but instead on our individual idea of a kind of ‘perfect moment’, the kind that memories are built on and that are striven for consistently in everyday life. We also must note that this is a material celebration, in the sense that we embody our feeling in decoration, gifts, and storytelling, all very Neptunian.

The eclipse may be the inception of a ‘honeymoon’ period between ourselves and our imaginations, where we attempt to build our fantasy life. This is good, as we aim to represent our ideals in our material surroundings and in what we produce, but falling as it does during Mars retrograde, we may want to hold off on actual manipulation of the surroundings until after Mars’ direction, on 19 May. Until then we might do best to muster all our creative sensibilities, ponder what we truly want, and plan–then move when the action urge is once again accessible as a ‘stream’ into which we can launch our intentions.

Partial view of the Americas from a low orbit satellite by NASA/NOAA/GSFC/Suomi NPP/VIIRS/Norman Kuring {{PD}}

The Grand Cross is in evidence—we’ll treat it as a part of the other energies in play, and in doing so perhaps draw it into a broader context. Actions or choices that trigger it all may originate in being contrary to our highest aims, to the demands of the home, or in reaction to the mate. We may seek ready empowerment in scenarios of the past (or that mirror it) and we may feel that blending into the crowd is actually the way to garner reward, preserve relationship, and stay safe—and we might be right, at least in the moment. Communications and our own thoughts both could feel like we’ve heard them before, and our reactions to them/ choices spurred by them may come at least in part from fear of being hurt in some past way we still feel vulnerable to. Erratic behavior, aggression, and destructive inclinations are all signs that we are allowing an out-of-control temperament to run the show—whether it’s you or someone else, take a step back and re-consider the direction you want to take. Rightly harnessed, this is a good time to change, guess who? Ourselves! We have the ability and energy to re-make our inner workings—we just need to take an intellectual stance that accesses compassion and common sense while staying true to values in order to do it successfully. (At the closest point to perfection, on the 23rd, Mars perfects the T with Uranus and Pluto—this is essentially the tightest the Grand Cross gets–with Jupiter the other arm, and Mars is also contra-parallel Vesta, Juno conjuncts the South Node, Venus is contra-parallel Uranus, Mercury moves into Taurus, is parallel the South Node and semi-square Chiron)

Here’s what I said in the first article on the Cardinal Grand Cross

'Cornstalks in the Moonlight' Theodor Kittelsen c1900 {{PD}}

‘Cornstalks in the Moonlight’ Theodor Kittelsen c1900 {{PD}}

The eclipse of 15 April falls at 25 Libra 15, and is a Full Moon (Lunar eclipse), conjunct transiting energies Ceres, North Node, and Vesta, opposed t Juno, quincunx t Sedna, sesquiquadrate t Venus, and sextile t Pallas. On its own the eclipse suggests a watershed point in partnership, cooperative efforts, artistic endeavors, and in regard to ‘the Other’, everything and everyone outside ourselves. A Full Moon brings an ending, but within this is found a new beginning; this particular culmination/ beginning is amplified by an eclipse, and married (so Libra!) to Nature/ Authority (Ceres), the future (NN), and to an impeccable level of dedication of life energy (Vesta)–it is, in effect, a relational seed point that carries a walloping life force–and this contradicts the kind of puny, Willful, egotistical sense of empowerment that may be found in negative manifestation of Juno in Aries (opposition), as well as causing adjustment to the unconscious (Sedna) and cooperation with what’s ultimately wise (Pallas). The Sabian for this eclipse is, ‘An Eagle And A Large White Dove Change Into Each Other’ This symbolism implies that the ‘other’ focus of Libra involves an actual transformation of one half of a pair into the other, and vice versa; what we are observing or are partnered with, then, becomes what we are.

The Solar eclipse occurs April 28-29 (depending on your location) at 8 Taurus 51, a New Moon that only sextiles Neptune; everything else is outside even a generous orb, with Mercury just days past Superior Conjunction (if this were moving toward the eclipse point I would consider counting it) and Mars, though moving retrograde, outside the orb for a quincunx. 'The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed With the Sun' William Blake {{PD}}

‘The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed With the Sun’ William Blake {{PD}}

This is an excerpt from the Grand Cross article in the current ECLIPSE:

The aspects don’t actually perfect all at once; in fact, I don’t think that’s possible, with Mars traveling in the opposite direction to the other three, and with Pluto-Uranus being exact on the 21st and Jupiter closest to them on the 20th. Mars is the hold out; every other body has to wait for him to create the Cross (a very Martian, ā€˜the world revolves around me!’ attitude!) though by the time he arrives, Jupiter is already poised to flee and Uranus and Pluto are parting So, the T-square is actually stronger prior to hooking up with Mars, and that implies that, depending on where in the personal chart each arm falls, we may already be in the midst of developments when the Martian energy arrives—and that suggests that things that have occurred have accumulated so that, with Mars in the picture, we are prompted to choose or act definitively on the concerned circumstances.

Something to consider in the personal chart is that two of the Cross factors will be below the horizon, and two above; this means that the above horizon elements are much more likely to involve others directly, to be ā€˜visible’ to onlookers, to involve contact with the world, institutions, businesses, or to involve one’s own job or vocation. The below horizon elements are much more likely to be processed at an internal level and to drive one’s own impulses and choices but not necessarily be obvious to others.

We can speak in general of what one of the energies above or below the horizon might mean, always keeping in mind that the particular House it rules in the natal chart, as well as its natal situation and any aspects it’s currently making to natal factors, can all figure in to meaning. For instance, Jupiter in Cancer above the horizon in the Whole Sign 10th=the broadcast or public ā€˜reveal’ of sensitivities, knowledge, beliefs, or the Jupiterian facet of the Cross/ T experience comes from others or is ā€˜out in the open’ in some way, definitely affecting the reputation or career; Pluto is then below the horizon in the 4th, suggesting that the change, upset, destruction, rage, or transformative facet happens on the inside or ā€˜close to home’ in some way, and may be a factor in what’s revealed, in this case coming either from the deepest Self or through the family relationship or actual living situation.

The New Moon in Capricorn occurs at 3:14 AM PST on the 1st at 10 Cap 57

The Cappy New Moon forms a tidy Cardinal Grand Cross with Uranus, Earth, and Mars, and is itself conjunct Pluto and Mercury, and also sextiles Chiron and trines Pallas. We typically tense for a lot of action with such a configuration, especially when the ambulance crew (Chiron) is standing by and the Moon and Sun have hooked up with a major power player (Pluto). What I think we end up with, though, is more of a denouement, a drawing together of all the changes and revelations of those participants in the repeated slow-moving squares into a coherent statement of our changed circumstances. Rather than energies that act as bombs or bullies, we instead see an accounting, a gathering, of all that has come before, particularly from the squares of Uranus and Pluto, and we finally see the way these changes have given us power, skills, and wisdom. Yes! That’s what is left, after all the bullsh*t is distilled out: a scenario of grace and beauty is born based on our new (and certainly improved) power stance.

Some of you may say, ā€˜Wait a minute—I haven’t received any power! Nothing’s changed for meā€ā€”or it’s changed in negative ways, with opportunities deteriorating, with unexpected smackdowns and lots of anger, prompting erratic, often emotionally desperate, action (cue Chiron). Healing and claiming your power would’ve been the result, if you hadn’t gotten sidetracked, probably by anger or a need to rebel. Don’t worry, it happens to us all at some point—and it’s never too late to get yourself together. This Grand Cross offers an excellent chance to accelerate the lesson, to act up and heal, using the power you do have to become a dynamic Being. We’re likely to see this magnified ability in the House of the natal chart where the NM falls, as well as secondarily in the other Houses that hold the Cardinals (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn).

The Sabian for the New Moon is ā€˜A Large Group Of Pheasants On A Private Estate’. This is a symbol indicating the necessity of finding our tribe. It’s ā€˜birds of a feather’ quite literally, and the private estate describes that little portion of the world in which we are immersed, well-versed, and active. If you haven’t yet found your tribe, don’t despair—you will—just keep moving toward your dreams (oh my, I’m sounding like a bad inspirational speaker!) and practicing all those pastimes that define you, because it’s in pursuing your fulfillment that you meet everyone else who’s taking the same road.

Your ECLIPSE Weekend Sampler 9-12 November 2013: Make It Big

'A Planet as Big as its Star' Artist's concept by NASA {{PD}}

‘A Planet as Big as its Star’ Artist’s concept by NASA {{PD}}

I’m taking off for a few days in celebration of my 29th wedding anniversary; all comments, orders, and correspondence will be held starting morning of the 9th Pacific time until evening of the 11th. Should you find you enjoy this sampler and/ or find it useful, you may want to subscribe and get the full Weekly, the Daily forecast and Daily Image, and free, optional lessons and very-low cost services, delivered right to your email!Ā

9 November Pallas moves into Virgo; the inclination is to be smart and practical, no-nonsense, to take a full accounting of what we have and how to use it–but no, we get a little loopy, a little impulsive, believing any fairy tale we hear–and so perhaps putting ourselves in a bad spot with authorities, Mother Nature, or in a situation where we really should try and negotiate. Channel creative energy into proven outlets or concrete manifestations, and make an overt effort to remain firmly aware of reality–these two measures will keep us out of the worst trouble, and could result in some truly inspired creations or creative ‘forms’ (Neptune quincunx, Earth sesquiquadrate Ceres, Mars sextile Saturn, Mercury trine Neptune)

1 AM PST of the 10th the Aquarius Moon quincunxes Jupiter, asking us to adjust our emotional engagement with the social sphere. It’s an intellectual need as much as it is an emotional one–at the least we should pull back and re-consider any expansion attempts we have underway. 6:30 AM PST the Moon squares Sedna. We may hit an emotional ‘blind spot’ that inspires us to make a ‘wrong move’ (or just a clumsy one). Remove emotion from the action equation at this time. 1 PM PST the Moon quincunxes Vesta. We intuit exactly what we must modify in the intimate relationship, on the home front, or concerning those areas we dedicate our lives to. Adjustment can be quiet and easy, if attended to now–I wouldn’t recommend we wait to make changes, as the next aspect between these two is an opposition–and of course, we’d do better to head a confrontation off at the pass. Void begins at 3:11 PM PST; the Moon enters Pisces at 6:37 PM PST. Luna opposes Pallas; we are shocked by the overwhelming immediacy of our needs, and of our desire to escape, which is clearly unwise. Look outside the Self for some anchoring influences, and a little sensible input. 10 PM PST the Moon conjuncts Neptune and trines Mercury, the latter of which is stationary direct. Flights of fantasy concerning future potentials grab our attention; enjoy them, and study them, for what they can tell you about what you truly want in life. Midnight the Moon quincunxes Ceres in Libra. Nature takes over in relationship–it’s that simple, and direct.

The image for the 11th is a very white cow standing in a very green meadow. The purity of the assets we work with and the areas we work in may be coming into question right now. We’d be wise to note that nothing is as hypernaturally unadulterated as we would hope, and yet we must do our best to maintain an atmosphere that allows the cells to grow in a healthy manner. Instead of railing against things we can do nothing about on a personal level, we can not only add our voices to the cause of a healthy ecology, we can stop one or two of those Self-destructive habits that make our railing about the environment look just a little bit contradictory, at the least.

12 November BIG opportunities come along, but there’s some chafing between our ambitions and what we know to be wise. In wanting to take advantage of the openings that we see, we must take care not to do something we otherwise know is stupid. I think that’s pretty clear. Look to the space Jupiter is now transiting in the natal chart for clues as to what area this opportunity may present itself in, and keep in mind that Jupiter will already be retrograde–that stupid thing we may be tempted to do may actually be a very smart thing, if we’ll only wait until Jupiter is once again direct to do it. (Pallas semi-square Zeus, Sun trine Jupiter)

Enjoy your weekend, and thank you!

Time is kept in the bottle in the lower right hand corner, in this picture. ‘Cupboard’ by Antonio Perez de Aguilar {{PD-Art}}

The Solar eclipse occurs 9 May 2013 at 5:28 PM PDT at 19 Taurus 31, and like the Aries New Moon that occurred the preceding month, it is closely contained, with all involved parties spanning less than 7 degrees (we have Mars 5 degrees 2 minutes behind the New Moon in Taurus, but even for an eclipse, that seems too wide a margin–however, I am counting Sedna, 3 degrees 55 minutes ahead of the eclipse–of course, with the Moon and Sun moving to later degrees, it only makes sense to give a little more orb leeway in the direction the lights are headed). Everything else is outside our 2-3 degree maximum margin. That means that the square Juno presents to Mars, the South Node, Mercury, Moon, Sun, and Pallas will occur enough before the eclipse that we will see this conflict over empowerment, status, and authority as ‘setting the stage’ for the fresh starts of a NM, and the game-changers of an eclipse. The square suggests we’ll preface the eclipse with a clash that may disorient us, and certainly could take us into the suddenly withdrawn light of the eclipse wondering If we have the strength, authority, experience, or wisdom to pursue this particular path to empowerment.

The eclipse itself conjuncts the South Node, Mercury, Pallas, and Sedna, and makes no other aspects. The result may be a very concentrated energy ‘event’, though that event might extend over a period of hours, with repercussions or influence lasting through to the next Solar eclipse. If a New Moon is a beginning, and a Solar eclipse a point at which the two lights meet and the normally ‘submissive’ or subservient (by virtue of deriving its light from the Sun) Moon supersedes the Solar body temporarily, we may see the birth of something of which we are at first unaware, which may derive from matters on the fringe or from the unconscious. We are assured by the presence of Pallas that what is conceived at this time is guided by wisdom or practical considerations, and perhaps the knowledge we’ve gained in the past (SN)–but we are dealing with material commodities (Taurus) and the lady is a Warrior (Pallas)–so we should not expect a gentle birth. Sedna says we likely bring something up from the depths of which we are currently unconscious–but that won’t last long–and what we may end up with is a message or new ‘thought’ on assets, talents, or material matters that informs our efforts in a fresh direction.

With this Solar eclipse we will, in some form, be contacting depths we’re not entirely conscious of, that naturally arise from the past–so we’re opening that bottled time, so to speak, and letting out something that sends us in a new, Taurean-themed, direction. The above is from ECLIPSE; to see much more, including where to look in your own chart for personal results, the Sabian, and the larger, social impact, please subscribe!

And for a traditional interpretation–

Or explore the long-term eclipse pattern interpretation (Saros cycle) here

And see another perspective (with some good advice) here—

Here’s a beautiful take on the eclipse that concentrates on Taurus and the senses—

And from a very personal angle, with good material on Ceres-Pluto
