‘Heroic Strokes of the Bow’ By Paul Klee {{PD}}

“I can’t believe you said that!” (or, I can’t believe I thought that) is the essence of it today. Messages are shocking, thinking/ communications are erratic, and moves are spontaneous, sudden, and information is unreliable, or perhaps more rightly classified as unpredictable. Brace for the unexpected; you can’t really anticipate much else with Mercury trine Uranus.

‘Kürbisse’ By Emilie von Büttner c1825 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is fresh fruit, preserved in an unusually peak state for an unusually long time. Is it a miracle, or is it just that conditions are optimum right now? Decide this before declaring something extraordinary, and then consider what made things so.

Winter in Andalusia (Poplars and Sheep at Alcalá de Guadaira) 1880 {{PD}} By Emilio Sánchez Perrier

We enjoy lifts of several kinds over this period; here are the deets:

The big story for the 22nd is Neptune stationing direct, and yet our reaction to this lifting of the fog might be more about the other perfecting aspects: Jupiter sesquiquadrate Chiron, Mars conjoined Zeus, and the Sun parallel Hygeia. When a heavy like Neptune goes direct, we may not be conscious of the shift right away; we may feel something, but it’s likely that it will take a little time for such a change to gather a distinctive shape in our lives, often related to either the matters of the House Neptune is currently transiting, or the one Neptune rules in our natal chart–and that’s aside from any contacts Neptune makes at the point of direction, which can be especially potent in the way they are suddenly revealed, attain an aspect of creativity or idealism or take on spiritual depth, or conversely are obscured, if Neptune retro had been serving to lift the fog.

So, the energies surrounding the turnaround may feel something like this: the social order suffering from and also inflicting wounds (think the #MeToo movement, for one); on an individual level this suggests that the facts or beliefs, one’s own or others, may be painful to deal with, or that the difficult situation presented by those facts and beliefs requires us to offer healing or the Chirotic skill, again, to ourselves and/ or others. Getting bigger spiritually, especially in relation to our fellow humans, may be painful–not exactly surprising.

Then there’s the matter of actions and choices being fused with ambitions and desires, removing any real chance of objectivity–just be prepared to face this in yourself and in others, and cut everyone a little slack; we are passionate about things at this point, so precipitous acts and expression of the Will may cause a kind of ‘blanking out’ that overrides any of our normal reticence or cautions. But, the Sun’s contact tells us that, in the long-term, that Self-expression will ultimately be healthy, so we’re unlikely to damage anything we actually want to preserve.

Rik Wouters – ‘De strijkster (The Ironer)’ (1912) {{PD}}

Today’s word image is iron. Did you imagine something hot coming out of a forge, a cattle brand, perhaps, or something more mundane, a clothes iron, or possibly a hunk of ore, or a daily supplement consumed for your health? Iron has entered the lexicon in a number of ways: ‘strike while the iron is hot’, meaning take an opportunity when it presents itself; to ‘iron things out’ means to negotiate and come to agreement; something is described as ‘iron’, implying unbending strength. Consider whether you need a little more, or a little less, of whatever iron comes to mind.

And what about the 23rd, the day in the US known for gathering the family together to share . . . a turkey? Let’s be clear: it’s a celebration ostensibly triggered by the day the indigenous peoples saved European settlers from starving to death, a day that signaled the beginning of the end for natives in terms of autonomy and cultural, personal, and Collective freedom–and of course, we shouldn’t be celebrating the dominance of one group over another at all, however obliquely that applies. We have to consider what this holiday has become: a symbolic sharing of abundance, and a chance to celebrate that abundance, to be grateful, not just for what we have but for those who share our lives, in the here and now.

How are we to interpret it, then, when no new aspects perfect today? The implication is that we are awash in a combination of previous recent influences that are still reverberating, and those characteristic inclinations and proclivities that we carry natally. Expect the expected, heavily seasoned with current shifts in both the personal arena and the Zeitgeist.

Jupiter, hangin’ out with his eagle By Nicolai Abildgaard 1792 {{PD}}

Word image for the 23rd is an eagle tending a nest where the eggs will never hatch. Well that’s depressing! Sometimes Mother Nature plays a cruel trick on us, or maybe it’s just fate or our own persistent nature, but everyone at one time or another has pursued or tended diligently to something that has no life in it, that will never ‘hatch’ and live in the light of day. This may be a reminder not to pour our care into lifeless projects, ones where the potential has long since drained away, or maybe it urges us to let go of the things that will never be–not all eggs are meant to reach maturity–and how can we have room for the new, if we are perpetually mourning the old?

By the 24th we’ll begin to see how the Neptune direction is flavoring those things we find sacred, that we honor, and that we are committed to; we’ll also be highly aware of the positives of all that’s come forward lately, the rewards offered for not ignoring or denying what is, and we’ll get glimpses down real avenues of Power. What’s not working so well may be our thinking and reasoning, and those faculties that are so injured or warped by negative experience that we can’t see the objective or the factual without distortion. What comes under scrutiny is our ability to be truly rational; our response needs to be a willingness to consider that feedback may be showing us an elemental flaw in our system.

Today’s word image is meeting someone about whom you feel you already know a great deal. When that happens, do you let what you’ve heard influence your perceptions? Are you so busy looking for purported attitudes or behaviors that you don’t see who’s actually standing in front of you? No real relationship can develop when prejudice exists, and perceptions are bound to be artificial, filtered through beliefs rather than arrived at from direct experience. Try not to exercise prejudice, okay?

Caspar David Friedrich ‘On the Sailing Boat’ c1819 {{PD}}

Our values support our ambitions and desires, and vice versa, what we want is right in line with our highest values and priorities, and that should make for smooth sailing–but we may be blown off course by surfaces, especially in relationships, and by financial issues. Both those Venusian subjects seem to need change or significant transformation, but as the Sun enters Sagittarius we may find all our energy and attention is initially on ambition fulfillment, and unless Venus matters are part of that . . . well, we may neglect them, preferring to go with the tide, as it promises reward and satisfying results. That’s okay, though, as the real point of all this is to make us aware of those Venusian subjects and the way they have impacted our past, and how they will shape the future, largely by those things we didn’t get and those we won’t ever attain. Being deprived of what we want has steered us in specific directions–and right now you have a chance to see into the future, and how current finances and relationships, as well as current wants, will shape what comes.

Today’s word image is a brightly colored parrot, capable of speech, that doesn’t speak. This image may point to ‘natural’ abilities that we are, for one reason or another, not using. What do you have in your ‘toolbox’ that you’ve let languish? Time to dust it off–though you don’t realize it yet, that ability is the perfect answer to a recent question, or maybe one that you’re just now asking.

Your Weekend: New Moon in Scorpio November 2017 Earthly Instincts

This New Moon occurs at 3:42 AM PST of the 18th at 26 Scorpio 19, closely opposed Sedna (and that means Sedna is conjoined Earth); the NM is also in close semi-sextile to Saturn, trine Chiron, and quincunx Uranus. The New Moon initiates new attitudes, actions, perceptions via feeling (Scorpio is a Water sign), and in this case offers a dose of healing energy, as well. Our instincts and matters we ‘know but don’t know’ may seem alien at this time, but the reality is the New Moon beginning draws us into using those instincts, into real-world situations or obstacles that require we call forth that deep, instinctive knowledge, and by confronting us with the unexpected, the shocking, the surprising. What occurs now gives us the chance to use talents or skills we may have thought dormant or non-existent, and urges a willingness to modify efforts to accommodate the material situation and/ or our own inclination toward originality or uniqueness (with that latter, we may need to curb a too-erratic response nature, or may need to adhere to more practical measures than we might otherwise consider). The New Moon in Scorpio gives us a Truthful Beginning that can lead to further discovery, the unanticipated, and to healing, down the road.

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘A Military Band Marches Noisily On Through The City Streets’. Whatever begins here makes an entrance, and a loud one! What we have to remember is that, despite the ruckus, what marches before us isn’t necessarily that important. A parade is a public statement on what prevalent social elements want to emphasize, celebrate, or otherwise note as of concern; that makes a parade a bit like advertising, an attempt to persuade onlookers that this is what the current social order honors and promotes–but it only takes a moments consideration to realize that a parade is propaganda, and may not at all reflect real-life priorities or actual matters deemed sacred. Parades are voices of those who hold power–remember, parades come originally from military displays meant to impress–so look behind the surface statement, to where time, attention, and money actually goes, to inform those New Moon instincts and emotions that drive uncovering of what’s true, beyond all the spectacle and noise.

By Sunday the 19th we may be so fixated on the Mars-Pluto square and the automatic contentiousness it fosters that we may miss the benefits of mining a tactic from the past in order to realize goals and gain, and so shape the future. Thoughts and actions can be forward-looking and so fortuitous, if we can do two things: avoid demanding unilateral acknowledgment that you are in authority or hold power (that is, be not just modest but allow others to feel they have their own say or authority, too), and be willing to recognize what you’ve been ignoring, denying, or enraged over–and then let it go, even as you allow it to give perspective to actions and choices.

Today’s word image is a milkmaid carrying a pail of milk. This brings to mind the saying, ‘You are what you do’, which points out that in a material world, our actions, not our thoughts, define us.

As of Monday the 20th, it’s easy to see how we can channel the past into the present productively; this allows us to make the most of situations that might not otherwise have paid off, and shows us the hidden benefits in any obstacles we might encounter. Just be aware that it may be necessary to modify efforts and attention, as well as to see identity as flexible, so that results are truly wise or practical–if we don’t, we may miss the mark.

Today’s word image is: you mention something you’re missing, and immediately find an abandoned one right in front of you. That’s very vague, so I’ll outline the instance that inspired it: I’d forgotten my Remembrance Day poppy at home, and upon mentioning it, my husband said, “Well here’s one”, and reached down and picked up a pristine one from its spot in a snow bank. I wore it until it fell off the next night in a restaurant, where I assume it was found by someone else who needed it. Just a vivid episode of a responsive Universe, so know it responds, and know that, one way or another, you are being provided with answers/ what you need.

Have a great weekend!

‘The Boulder’ By Charles Courtney Curran c1905 {{PD}}

We have the best ‘backbone’ today, the kind made from solid values and priorities, with no ambiguities about what’s most important to us. We may still be afraid, but we find the mettle to stand up to what scares us. That figurative backbone supports thoughts and actions, which dovetail nicely, making for effective decision making and little internal conflict. What doesn’t work so well? Going after our ambitions and desires; somehow the direct approach brings resistance out of thin air. Respond by being open to spontaneity, the unusual, the new, and the radical or untried, as these will offer a work around and allow us to take a resilient stand in the face of what might otherwise overwhelm us.

Today’s word image is insomnia. This may sound nonsensical, but have you considered, if you are indeed suffering from lack of sleep, that someone might be sending you bad vibes, and picking up on them causes you to lay awake, ruminating on fears and what could go wrong? Just a thought, but if this is you, don’t waste time trying to pinpoint who’s sending you the poison thought pill; instead remind yourself, each time your mind goes *there* that those things aren’t happening right now, that it’s fruitless to try to live in the future, and that you are actually safe and sound, in the present.

‘Yuletide Fortune Tellers’ 1888 By Mykola Pymonenko {{PD}}

Our attention is on healing; it seems to sit in its own light, separate from what’s whirring past us in the world (and Dark of the Moon, which we’re in at this point, is a perfect time to accept healing energies from the Universe)–and yet, thinking is fixated on power (even when we call it something else), and generates unwise or impractical plans, while reality seems to battle with our instincts and intuitions. What to do? It may be that Venus offers us a way out; she is in Scorpio, semi-square Saturn, trine Neptune, and parallel Juno, promising worth in creative activity that dives deep, in dream realization that recognizes both light and darkness, and that relationships can reside in the ideal–and all of this may empower us, even as we may not have an entirely smooth time in manifesting or in dealing with the real world picture. Embrace an attitude of healing in all things, and know it’s a day of challenges that, if well met, may be exceptionally productive, positive, and rewarding.

Today’s word image is a sensation of flying. What does freedom look like, in your world? How much freedom do you have, and do you need more, or in some other form? Ask yourself those questions today.

‘Treppe in Algier (Steps in Algiers)’ c1882 By Pierre-Auguste Renoir

Today Vesta enters Scorpio, just as Pallas backtracks into Aries; in opposition these two set up a dynamic of values and priorities based on Truth, secrets, or with hidden origins that directly conflicts with personal wants and Will. We see a viewpoint that narrows from the Universal or Collective to the individual, while what we honor focuses more on the dark, dirty truth and less on maintaining a balance in relationships or in being ‘fair’ and equitable in a way that ignores deservedness. We judge, we assess, and we act according to our own authority; what we can’t do is use those assessment-senses to pursue our own ambitions–somehow it’s just not the day for it.

Today’s word image is a book, where the story inside doesn’t match the description on the outside. If we are the book, and what we’re presenting to the world as who we are on the outside doesn’t match our inner wants and needs, how can we be surprised when we’re unhappy?

This image was so fabulous I just had to use it. It shows the Earth rising from the Moon, as viewed from Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter above Compton crater. NASA/ Goddard Space Flight Center / Arizona State University – http://lroc.sese.asu.edu/posts/895 {{PD}}

There’s only one new aspect perfecting today, a sesquiquadrate of Venus to Chiron; the only way to see this clearly is to view it as coming in the wake of yesterday’s Venus-Jupiter conjunction. Venus suggests a certain continuity of attention, as we go from a focus on bounty, beliefs, facts, and expansion efforts and opportunities related to assets, finances, relationships, talents, and love, to one that, through difficult or uncomfortable circumstances, will reveal (and possibly allow healing of) our wounds. A tough situation in one or more of these areas could also call forward the personal and very unique Chirotic gifts you carry, gifts that since 2012 I see as available not just to others, but to yourself (for more on this, see here). Overall, a day of serious adjustment, where the positivity, abundance, and over-doing of yesterday give way to consideration of how our assets and relationships can benefit from, handle, or otherwise heal long-standing vulnerabilities and hurts.

Today’s word image is a real-life episode. Just as we were pulling out of a parking lot, I was saying I would give something a try, and as I said the word ‘try’ my eye fell on a bumper sticker that said, ‘Mama Tried’. Some people denigrate the concept of trying; it’s true that it allows for failure (as saying, ‘I will’ does not), but it also removes the potential for Self-guilt or blame, should circumstances beyond one’s control prevent reaching the goal. Using ‘try’ is only a problem if it’s wielded as an excuse; otherwise, it’s far kinder to ourselves to recognize that the Will cannot be arbiter of all things.

Read my books! And have a great day!

Don’t misunderstand that title–I mean it in the purest sense, in essence suggesting that Beauty, like Truth and Love, is something you should move toward–because what will you discover there? Bounty, Reward, Nourishment, Support–in short, Opportunity. Two caveats about how to handle things today: 1) what’s wise or practical will require us to acknowledge our rage, to refuse to ignore or deny what we’d rather not see, to address injustice as we find it; and 2) beware that the mind can be tricked, and communications can be tricky–we’re prone to misunderstand or let our imaginations run away with us, not from someone’s malefic intent to mislead, but from our own creative energies run amok. Channel that fecundity into productive outlets, and realize that true health requires adaptation, more than anything else.

Today’s word image is a beautiful bowl you’d always thought perfect that proves to have a single, hairline crack. Does that flaw ruin enjoyment of the bowl for you? And what in your life are you expecting to be perfect, that may end up being flawed–and how will you react, will you still love the people or things involved, knowing they carry imperfections?

And I don’t mean flaky crust. ‘Still Life with Peacock Pie’ 1627 By Pieter Claesz {{PD}}

Everything, and everyone, seems erratic, unpredictable, flaky. Consider that the energy sent toward you and displayed before you is a reflection of two things: your own frustrated ambitions and desires, and those matters you’ve ignored or denied. Now that you get a little perspective on them, you can see them for what they are. How does that change your view of what you want, and what you should give attention to?

Today’s word image is a cleansing mask meant to remove toxins from the skin. What rituals do you follow, looking to purify your life? Are these genuinely successful, with undeniable results, or is the effect largely in your perceptions, making it personally useful but objectively useless?

I’m unavailable today, but will answer all queries, correspondence, comments, and fill all orders once I’m again at the computer, evening of the 12th. Thanks!
