The Full Moon 6 September 2017 Noblest Form

Three Women by Umberto Boccioni, 1910 {{PD}}

Somehow I managed to talk all around the Neptune conjunction with the Full Moon–I was thinking about it, but not naming names! Now it’s in there. The Full Moon culminates at 2:46 AM Pacific time at 13 Pisces 53, conjoined ruler Neptune (though past perfection to it). The FM sextiles Pallas, quincunxes Venus, semi-sextiles Uranus, and quindeciles (165 degrees) the just-direct Mercury. We skip a potential sextile to Pluto, as it’s a little too far for this contact, just over three degrees difference. The Moon in Pisces is receptive, open to the Universe, and it’s triply so conjoined ruler Neptune; this makes for a potent result that carries the essence of the creative, the imaginative, the ideal, or the illusive, with the latter suggesting we might not get a handle on the FM until it’s well past perfection. A Full Moon presents conclusions or fulfillment; in this case we may see an end to, a resolution of, or a fulfillment of a dream, ideal, or deception. It may or may not be stressful in a minor way, with its biggest immediate impact an empty space where that Piscean element, now resolved, used to be.

The aspects show us the wisdom of whatever comes to an end (that is, that it’s smart for things to conclude now, possibly so that we may free up creative energy); they also suggest that whatever occurs may happen suddenly, an in-the-moment surprise or revelation, spurring some sort of difficulty, a need to adjust ourselves or our attitudes in matters of relationship or finances. Most compelling, though, may be a Full Moon urge to communicate, whether that is advisable or not. There is something we will feel an overwhelming desire to convey to others, verbally or otherwise, and this may be ‘dressed up’ in fanciful ways, as Art, or may be camouflaged so that the communicator (because of course, everyone will be subject to this urge, in one form or another) sends the message without claiming the energy, or drawing attention back on themselves. You always have to watch out for the quiet ones, don’t you?

The Sabian for this FM is, ‘A Lady Wrapped In A Large Stole Of Fox Fur’. At the time this symbol was formulated, it was quite fashionable to wear animal fur; now it’s anything but, despite a small contingent of those who cling to old values. In terms of the Full Moon, this may suggest that what concludes at this time does so because it’s ‘out of fashion’–this is, because the time for such a dream, ideal, or deception is past. And it’s not just passé, it’s actually offensive to some, as we evolve toward a more and more respectful treatment of our fellow animals. The Sabian tells us that, no matter how we perceive and process the ending brought about by this Moon, we must see that it’s all for the good, that it’s helping us shed old, no-longer-desirable attitudes, that it’s freeing us from ideas that may be nothing so much as cruel.

For a Full Moon we also look at the Sun, the provider of energy and light, and we see this Sabian: ‘An Aristocratic Family Tree’. This suggests that the elimination or conclusion brought by the FM is ennobling, that it harks back to the finer qualities of human beings as a species, and that in fact it may originate with this idea; each of us connects to something within that is fine, and that shows us the wisdom of this Full Moon ending. It also spurs us to ask ourselves what we will allow to fill the Piscean space this conclusion creates. It’s a period when we communicate who we are in our noblest form, and we tap ourselves for new creative or idealistic material that is original, that could only come from the individual celebrated and honored for all that’s best within.

Our explorations will give us power, rather than take it away. William Blake,’The Casting of the Rebel Angels into Hell’ {{PD}}

We see and know clearly the smart thing to do–so why are we resisting? It’s a clever plot by the rebel within, that headstrong part of us that acts out when the conscious mind can’t justify what we really need to do. Disruption of relationships and/ or the financial picture (including income streams) is slated, but what we need to know is that in upsetting the current scenario we are actually upholding our highest values–we are in essence defending ourselves, even though it’s more likely to feel like (and be responded to as) us being needlessly rebellious. Note who is accepting of our choices, even if that acceptance is reluctant, and who tries to argue (or even bully) us out of it; look deeper–the one who wants to separate us from our initiative has his or her own, Self-centered reasons for doing so.

{{PD}}

Today’s word image is Jupiter. I’ve seen the planet/ god mentioned at least a half dozen times in the past three days outside an astrological context, once even as the name of some business, and it was impossible to figure out what the business was! Hidden by this BML contact, no doubt 🙂 As of the 6th, Jupiter’s closest aspects are an approaching sextile to Black Moon Lilith in Sag and a separating Cardinal square to Ceres in Cancer. This may suggest that our efforts to expand, to learn, to believe, and/ or gather the facts requires acceptance of and exploration of those matters that enrage us, or that we’ve been ignoring or denying–and that this effort springs from previous conflict with authorities or Nature, and that these could affect the health or our own autonomy. This refers to a specific situation, one that asks us to deal with what we’d rather not, born out of some frustration or challenge to our autonomy–and in responding, we’ll see where we can be god-like, where we can effectively exert our Jupiterian Will.

Full Moon post to follow!

Just a Little AstroEssence 5 September 2017 A Tangled Road

Fairy Tale Forest Creatures by Arthur Rackham 1919 {{PD}}

Mercury stations direct, and Mars enters Virgo–those seem straightforward enough, don’t they? And related, as our action urge enters territory that requires care, precision, attention to detail, to our results, and the sign’s ruler shifts from reclusive and cagey to open and advancing. It all suggests things going forward, and things being worked out–but what else is in the picture, set to exert an influence on these tidy and welcome proceedings?

Venus sesquiquadrates Chiron and quincunxes Neptune, suggesting that not only will relationships be difficult, we could accidentally hurt them (or blunderingly heal them, which is almost a kind of wounding, as well) out of misperception, misguidedness, or sheer fantasy that tells us things are something they’re not. We may have to adjust values or spending to suit partners or our budget, and creativity may cost us, or change our relationships in irritating ways. Then there’s the Sun sesquiquadrate Uranus, illuminating what’s different, strange, freakish, shocking, or unreliable, and this possibly in our own behavior or in relation to the group. What we have, then, is a day that seems on the surface to open a smooth road before us–but that somehow tangles around us, like tree branches in an enchanted forest, in areas of relationships or finance, likely out of our own misunderstanding of these, or in our attempt to align our own interests with the groups’. Step with care, rather than run with abandon–you’re much less likely to take a fall, and will get to see the landscape, besides.

Today’s word image is a movie, already seen, viewed again. Do you re-watch movies, or do you never want to repeat what you’ve already seen? I often have a completely different experience, seeing the whole thing from another perspective, than I did the first time around, so to me it can be highly enjoyable. There’s a situation or circumstance repeating in your life right now–are you seeing it as a boring re-run (and so maybe missing the meaning of its recurrence?) or are you experiencing it anew, seeing whole new meanings in what’s happening (but maybe missing the message it tried to deliver the first time)? The answer to that tells you where and what you might need to adjust, especially in terms of where you need to put your attention.

Just a Little AstroEssence 4 September 2017 Spectacular Leaps

We’ll have to adjust today–to ourselves. Our most unique and original inclinations surface, along with enough optimism to float several boats (and to tackle issues too long denied or ignored), and that means we can make spectacular leaps forward, especially in areas requiring confidence, understanding, and creativity. The innovative thought occurs–jot it down and save it for after Merc direction–and serendipities abound. What’s not working so well? What haunts us has an exaggerated presence–it hangs like a pall–so may needlessly blanket situations and our outlook. There’s also potential to be mentally erratic, to deny our creative urge, or to miss the way our ambitions can accommodate our high standards, and vice versa. Think in terms of modifications that preserve our integrity, core values, and our most treasured goals, while being responsive to the changing scene around us.

Today’s word image is a car winding endlessly around an ascending spiral ramp. On those kind of facilities you only see the floors where you can exit and park at one point on the spiral; the rest of the time, it just looks like you’re following a contained road to nowhere. I hate to get all philosophical on you, but life is a lot like that. We only periodically see where our ‘road’ is really taking us, and often it seems like there’s no way off, no other choice. I think the image counsels patience, a willingness to continue to move forward even when we are unsure what to expect ahead, and reassures us that, eventually, ‘where we’re at’ will be revealed.

Have a wonderful day! And a song ‘for the road’

‘Shade and Darkness – the Evening of the Deluge’ J. M. W. Turner 1843 {{PD}}

We have a jumbly set of aspects today that may make us feel we can’t trust our own instincts, can’t trust our status or position to deliver our influence effectively, and as if ambitions and desires won’t be served–but these perceptions are needlessly negative, an exaggeration of what’s really at play, which is a buried fear about the power of others to overwhelm us, and about the potential influence of things ignored or denied that may prevent us sticking to our values. Do you see where the problem is here? It’s in our fears, not so much in our reality. Keep the focus on priorities and values, and don’t worry so much about measuring or testing your own power; optimism and ‘the facts’ are a better indicator of success than position will be. We operate under a kind of ‘shadow instinct’ at this time, so that we can’t rely on the instinctual nature even as awareness of it hovers near the conscious mind. Instead, rely on skills, a sense of practicality, and the tried and true inner wisdom, for guidance.

Artist Unknown, from ‘Little Pictorial Lives of the Saints’, Benzinger Brothers 1877 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a mass, said in a language you don’t understand. Nearby there is some indecipherable ritual underway, one that requires worship without making its assertions clear. Do you kneel and honor proceedings, or do you get up and walk out? It all depends on why you’re in that ‘church’ in the first place.

John Singer Sargent c1883 {{PD}}

So much is sotto voce this weekend, tendrils of sub-sonic sound that reach into the mind (wrapping most particularly around the wisdom and practicality functions), throwing off balance, affecting the solidity of our values and the sureness of our identity. We are troubled, thinking others are remarking on us, a hint of paranoia covering us like a shroud. In reality, we are aligned with our instincts; that suggests that if we can stop believing we just need to think about it first, we can function without too many negative consequences. It’s really the pervasiveness of Mars conjoined retrograde Mercury in Leo trine Uranus in Aries that fuels any upset. If not for this need for action, the impulsiveness and burning desire to be original, to pursue our own viewpoint, what we imagine might remain un-acted upon, ideas that simply remain ideas, abandoned tomorrow (or maybe after Merc’s direction) as just too too! Today, if we can take out the middle man (in this instance, that troublesome brain!) and have the instincts direct the muscles, that would be ideal. As it is, we may feel those whispers exerting themselves in some leap-before-we-look action. Choices will have a bigger or more long-lasting effect than you anticipate, so avoid any commitment that might last longer than a movie or a meal.

Lazarine Baudrion, the artist’s wife, with the Rose-breasted Cockatoo. By József Rippl-Rónai Before 1927 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a parrot with bright plumage, riding on a woman’s shoulder as she moves down the street. How do you feel about keeping birds as pets? I love them, used to have some, but don’t want to put them in cages anymore (we’ll ignore the fact that some birds, long bred by humans, would not find life in the wild survivable, much less sustainable). Is there something you used to love, that you now don’t feel the need to relate to in the same old way? What does this change in attitude say about you, and has it changed what you do or how you behave?

Just a Little AstroEssence 1 September 2017 Intense Scrutiny

Our beliefs, our social lives, our creativity, our fantasies, will all be measured against those things that are most important to us, and we engage in this exercise for three reasons: we want to know what to do, which way to go, as we move into the future; we want to ferret out those hidden influences that may be stopping up the flow of Love or Money; and we want to get ourselves in perfect alignment with what really matters to us–and we have the smarts to realize we can only do that if we know what may be exerting an influence from the unconscious, or from our own denial of something. It’s a time when we intensely scrutinize how and where we dedicate our energies, with a better than even chance that we will define things in such a way that our ‘next step’ becomes unavoidably clear.

Though our wish to flee isn’t as dramatic as this Biblical scene, we do have the urge to just ‘get out of town’, one way or another. ‘The Flight of Lot and His Family from Sodom’ by Peter Paul Rubens c1614 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is really just an urge: the desire to escape. Pressures seem to be building for everyone–so much for the eclipses dissipating ambient energies–and even when things are going well, there seems to be a weight hanging over everything. Focus helps, by narrowing our field of vision in such a way that matters are more easily addressed, one at a time, and also helpful is reminding ourselves that stress over what might happen is counter-productive–live in the moment, for best results.

Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend-eve!

‘Tree of Life’ by Oscar Soteno on display at the Museum of Artes Populares in Mexico City. Photo By Alejandro Linares Garcia – Own work, GFDL, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=8335002

There are a lot of swift-moving currents today, and we should expect to be tossed around a bit as we encounter them. The most telling and difficult to navigate may be the most pervasive pairing, that of a parallel between Jupiter and Neptune. A parallel, as we know, is when two bodies are the same distance from and on the same side of (that is, north or south of) the celestial equator. Parallels act like conjunctions, yes, but they’re more subtle than that; I think of the two energies as unique but diffuse, as if each permeates the other, creating a third vibe that runs below the conscious surface of things. It’s as if we got Jupiter in our Neptune, and Neptune all over our Jupiter! That suggests a handful of potentials: expanded creativity or imagination or hallucination/ delusion, possibly broadcast publicly; the social sphere gone daft, operating on a total fiction; misguided or misunderstood beliefs, teachings, or optimism; exaggerated misperceptions; an inability to get a handle on beliefs or ‘the facts’, with the many disasters or serendipities that may ripple out from that.

What else is in the waters? (Waters, with Ceres, Chiron, Neptune, and Earth in Water signs at present, guaranteeing we will see and feel transit effects, no matter how generated.) We may see a reality picture that has difficulty accepting Nature or the requirements of authorities, with those rebelling violating their own highest values and standards; they’re spurred on by unacknowledged anger or denial, or an inability to truly value what they actually have. In trying to avoid hurt they reject instinct, believing the mind is more accurate–but have they not heard Merc’s not only retro, he’s retreated into Leo and parallel the Sun, circumstances in which he may be overwhelmed with a reflexive Self-interest? Possibly a highly difficult day, made better if we muster creativity, look outward at least as much as we look within, and don’t fight the reality picture, but try to work within it; those measures will help us channel efforts most effectively, and prevent too much useless kicking and kvetching.

‘The Day Dream’ 1880 by Dante Gabriel Rossetti {{PD}}

Today’s word image is last night’s dream. Recently (not necessarily the night of the 30th to 31st) you have been presented with a dream image that was confounding and that really stuck with you. Watch for those elements that make up the image in your real life, and take your message from both literal and symbolic meanings that may come forward (for me this involves a move back in time and a mouse!)

‘Miss Auras’ by John Lavery c1900 {{PD}}

Somehow we just know the powerful idea or thought that expresses both the essence of our authority and that supports our highest values or most important commitments. It’s as if we’re handed the answer of exactly how to, in making our statement to the world–and it just so happens to fulfill our ambitions or desires, as well. An odd sort of day, where things go remarkably smoothly, and we should take advantage of this, as the 31st comes along tomorrow (who knew?) and (mostly) puts the brakes on, hard. If you’re running into upsets, then it’s straight up because you are in some way denying your values.

‘Pigs’ by Franz Marc 1912 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is an archetype, ‘The Attention Hog’. This can come in many forms–we’re usually primed to think of someone loud, trumpeting their accomplishments or ‘virtues’, someone who sucks all the air out of the room–but today it takes a very particular shape: the person who, like a dripping faucet, demands little bites of your attention. It may be through the making of repeated, irrelevant or obvious comments, the offering unasked of little bits of ‘advice’, through mysterious and vague remarks meant to elicit questions in the listener, or through small, jabbing ‘challenges’ to those they see as holding some sort of power or authority. See this for what it is, a screaming demand for attention that is underlined by a kind of magnificent arrogance and entitled rage. This person doesn’t even realize that you don’t owe them anything–they would never face their own neediness by asking directly for your energy–and your job today may be to refuse to hand over that piece of yourself they think they deserve.

‘Spanish Dancer’ John Singer Sargent 1879 {{PD}}

What’s the big story today? The queen of the gods, Juno, conjoins Hygeia, indicator of what’s healthy, and we get–healthy Self-assertion? An unhealthy inclination toward vengeance? Or possibly something more subtle in-between. Here our current power and empowerment position (our status, our ability to reach out and get others to comply with our wishes and goals, and our sense of respect given and received within relationship) meets up with a gold standard of ‘what’s healthy’, and our position and choices are judged by us from there–and not necessarily accurately. There are difficulties with seeing through the fog, with sorting real from imagined, with perhaps a little too much hope that something is ideal, in spite of the reality behind it. Listening to instinct will help; deep inside we know how things really are. It’s just a matter of seeing that reality, and accepting it–easier said than done, but possible, nonetheless.

Mars as Seen from Deimos by Howard Russell Butler {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a pair of things observed in real life: a bright green billboard that reads, ‘It’s time to show off’, and then a man wearing a t-shirt with one word on it: Mars. Seen in quick succession, I took these to suggest we need to assert ourselves, to put some part of our essence ‘out there’, particularly something that at one time or another we may have been chided for, told that nice boys and girls don’t ‘Show off’–but behind the showing off was really a need, to express an innate talent or ability. Today, express that thing you do very, very well. You’re not showing off, you’re offering what you’ve got, and that’s the way it’s meant to be.
