Doing or accepting something that hurts may be the smart thing–or is it that we must allow healing, either because it’s practical or because it’s wise? Which of the potential alternatives is for you depends, apart from your actual situation, on two things: how clearly and accurately your thought processes are assessing the road ahead, and what you’re dreaming about. With the former you must weigh how well you’ve done this in the past as well as how independent the intellect is at present from the emotions and external influences, in order to have some idea how accurate your projections ahead are, and with the latter I don’t mean literally (though for a certain number of you, dreams will of late have been an excellent window into the psyche), I mean what are you fantasizing for your future? Answering (and at the very least gleaning a keener understanding of yourself) will tell you whether you must be open to some hurt, or must make efforts to heal–one or the other is a necessary step today, no matter what else is going on (Chiron nov Pallas, Merc sesq NN, Sun enters Pisces/ Earth enters Virgo)

‘Bathers’ 1908 Kazimir Malevich {{PD}}

Our highest values and those things we honor (like the home front and our mate)  offer smart and practical guidelines to choice and action today, and we have a certain knack for originality in venues where we express our power or authority–so what’s not working? Our relationships and financial priorities might be almost too grounded in the reality picture–that is, we might be too quick to accept limits or that ‘that’s just the way it is’, and messages, especially feedback from the social sphere, or the facts of any matter, may be oddly hurtful, wounding without any discernible reason. We may be too open without knowing it to the nebulous hurt of the Collective, and find ourselves attaching that undefined pain to what we hear or think–the solution may be to stop paying so much attention to concrete boundaries and see to the psychic ones each of us must have in place for our own health and happiness (Vesta parallel Pallas, Uranus nov Ceres, Venus semi-square Saturn, Mercury semi-square Chiron and sesq Jupiter)

For the outlook for the 16th, please see the previous post. Thank you, and have a great day!

Today’s word image is protective netting blown off new garden seedlings by the wind. Is the wind a destructive element in your world, or a productive one? Do you shelter from it, curse it for desiccating your crops, hang your laundry to dry in it, or place your wind turbine in it to produce energy? Winds are, above all else, manifestations of change, whether that be barometric, historical, or personal shifts in fortune. What in your life is inevitably changing, and what ‘seedlings’ must you protect during that change?

'In den Dünen' Gari Melchers 1891 {{PD}}

Before enlightenment . . . well, you know the rest. ‘In den Dünen’ Gari Melchers 1891 {{PD}}

I want to look at Black Moon Lilith (confused about this point? The first few paragraphs here will help) specifically as a ‘justice indicator’. She’s known for her rage, a temper that is often portrayed (did someone say ‘patriarchy’?) as simple vindictiveness at not getting her way; in actuality it was the result of being unjustly judged and treated, of being painted unfairly by others who hold all the power, both literally so and to make myths–hence at least a portion of her bad rap.

This point in the natal chart could be where you are sensitive to injustices related to the House where this falls, or the essentials of the body or bodies it aspects, or it could be a ‘temper trigger’ by transit, could show what you refuse to claim in the form of anger or ignored matters, or it could indicate where you have shown anger and been ‘cast out’ in some way, just as Lilith was from the garden of Eden, or where an exclusion or denial has birthed anger within you. Consider that your BML is a touchstone to those matters that enrage, and that this points to angers denied, unacknowledged, and unexplored. Think of how much energy you would free up if you were aware of the implications of your Black Moon Lilith. And then try to enjoy your Valentine weekend, without getting all up in Lilith’s junk.

If we’re behaving consciously, we’ll see that we get and give what’s just, over this period:

The 13th suddenly talk gets intellectual, but look behind the high-flown ideas: they’re all about the material world. Leading up to Valentine’s Day we see an unusual amount of harmony between men (or animus-dominant individuals) and women (or anima-heavy persons)–or is it more of an impulse for identification with what we consider our opposite? And yet those anima forces are powerful, grounded, and attuned to the reality picture–maybe animus-dominant types are feeling the need for some softness and receptivity, and sensing the activity and strength in their anima counterparts, loosen up (Mars parallel Ceres and sxt Jupiter, Venus parallel Saturn and Pluto and nov Ceres, Merc enters Aquarius and semi-sq Saturn, Sun sq Sedna)

By the 14th we see a very interesting dynamic manifest: honoring what’s sacred is the only way to build our future; without following this principle, our attempts to expand, socialize, learn, or ‘get more’ run aground (Vesta parallel NN, Jupiter qnx Vesta–learn about Vesta here)

15 February we are feeling strong and rarin’ to go–in particular, it’s easy to make changes–what we do with that energy is our own choice, though if we’re not careful we may be inclined to repeat the past (Mars trine SN, Sun nov Pluto)

The 16th our dreams, ideals, relationships, and/ or wants come under scrutiny, but take care: our approach to dream makin’ may be a little too cool to accommodate what otherwise would fill us with inspiration and desire. Awareness that home, mate, and even those concepts and causes we idealize should be accepted in spite of their flaws will make it all go more smoothly (and exponentially raise our chances of achieving what we’ve been dreaming of ) (Vesta qnx NN, Venus enters Aquarius and nov Neptune)

The word image for this period is a literal bucket of rain. The expression ‘make it rain’ means, of course, abundance freely shared–but for the person in the midst of a flood, it may mean further disaster. What do you have an abundance of to share freely, what do you have too much of, to the point of washing your life away, and what does having a ‘contained emotional response’ (the water–emotion–in the bucket) to things offer us in terms of future benefit, portability of feeling, or restraint?

Cardinals in the anteroom of the Vatican–trying to listen in, of course. By Henri Adolphe Laissement 1895 {{PD}}

Today the seen and unseen worlds whisper to us–of Love, of treasure, of what’s lost, forgotten, or suppressed, through a lexicon of instincts and primordial knowing, of what could be, of what we imagine, of ideal futures and re-imagined pasts, beneath the words actually presented–and though these messages may be hard to grasp, we will see them delivered somehow through the material world, as well as the psychic one. Relationships can be tricky, best navigated on a combination of instinct and response to the real-world choices of the Other. In all situations, that means if we’re unsure of what we intuit, suspect, feel, or sense, we can parse the concrete situation for the same info, though it may be obscured by words or chatter or rote thought patterns, or our perception may be influenced by our disposition toward what’s delivering the message–we’d be wise to keep in mind McLuhan’s advice, that the medium is the message (Perfecting today: Venus trine Sedna and nov Saturn, Merc nov Neptune)

No really, that’s the advice: use your imagination. Some of us develop a low tolerance for the meandering kind of invention and fancy we entertained daily as children; now would be a good time to revive it. Earnings, relationships, artistic expression, Love, they all turn on a receptivity to the creative urge. Inspiration will seek concrete form; it’s up to you to make it happen (Venus semi-sq Neptune)

Here’s my advice for today: time travel to the future so you can see what the wise thing to do is right now. That’s not helpful at all, though it may assist us to know that the past is not a good guideline for what’s wise in this moment, nor for what makes the truly practical choice; for once, yesterday doesn’t apply to now. Short of transporting to tomorrow, we might do best to consider what environment will allow relationships, assets, talents, and values to flourish most freely and prolifically, and cultivate that. Find a door ajar to your next step in these areas; try to, if not walk through, get a glimpse of what’s on the other side. We might also look to the distractions and opportunities provided by the social circle, social media, broadcasts and publications, or the wider world; in them we find the facts that can shape tomorrow–just make sure that those ‘facts’ are rock-solid real (Pallas sesq and parallel the NN, Venus trine NN, Sun qnx Jupiter-NN)

Today restraint, modesty, discretion, and a willingness to roll up the sleeves and dig, clean, or eradicate deeply are all rewarded; these actions and choices bring stability and a landscape that won’t morph unexpectedly before our eyes–and this supports some minor but terribly clever ideas on how to handle the reality picture. That said, though, we can tap into powerful forces for change that remain in some way subterranean. It’s as if the force of our intentions can ripple out and stir the quantum field, affecting all things eventually, but nothing visibly just yet. The most obvious effects come from temper or impulse that defies or distorts our highest values or priorities, and the expansion of what we care about, be it Love, Money, or something treasured, in an overt ‘ease of excess’ that may or may not ultimately be to our benefit–but it can make for a delicious break when we defy barriers, boundaries, and rules–just make sure the seductiveness of More or Bigger doesn’t contradict our inner wisdom. New Moon in Aquarius 2016 Higher Understanding

Dante Gabriel Rossetti 'Holy Grail' 1873 {{PD}}

Dante Gabriel Rossetti ‘Holy Grail’ 1873 {{PD}}

The New Moon in Aquarius (also known as Lunar New Year) falls on the 8th at 6:38 AM Pacific time at 19 Aquarius 15. The NM forms close semi-sextiles to Venus and Chiron, with only 9 and 5 minutes difference, respectively, and so falls at the midpoint of their sextile; this on its own suggests the New Moon brings the healing power (Chiron) of Love (Venus) through intellectual understanding or through a greater knowledge of the reasons behind the facts (Aquarius). What’s born here can heal, can be a conduit for Love at its most pristine and potent, and can offer an elevated level of comprehension in terms of the ‘higher function’ of events–but that’s not the entire story.

The New Moon is also sextile Vesta, in wide quincunx to Jupiter, trines Black Moon Lilith-Zeus, and squares Mars. So, we may have two general scenarios: either the higher understanding and Love are reached through a negatively-perceived event, or through a positively perceived one. That is, we may act in reaction to some aggression, or as the conflict-initiating entity ourselves, or in reaction to a restrictive or demanding social or fact-based situation (likely in trying to fulfill ambitions or to rectify an injustice, with our choices guided by our highest values or the needs of the mate or home front), and this either flows from the NM healing event, or creates it.

That’s the difficult thing: the NM event may soothe us, or it may offer that healing and in the process create a stressful circumstance in reaction. There’s no way to know ahead of time, but we can look to the House in the natal chart where this NM falls; knowing the current circumstances of House matters will clue you in to what might be involved, and whether the initiating event is a negative or positive one.

The Sabian goes right along with the healing nature of the New Moon, ‘A Large White Dove Bearing A Message’ Expect to learn something; expect to gain an appreciation of the circumstances of peace (and this may come through war). In particular, we can heal a relationship that may be suffering. This comes through our own willingness to expand our understanding, to apply Love to all our connections, to accept peace–and that latter may be difficult for some of us to do.

When we’re honest with ourselves, Lilith loses her need to be angry. Maria Raquel Cochez, Lilith with M&M’s No. 2, acrylic on canvas, 60″ x 72″, 2013 http://mariaraquelcochez.com/ Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported

Yesterday’s activity of Black Moon Lilith brings up the many circumstances where we may not play it in a straightforward way, being ornately casual, coy, or hinting hinting hinting–and all the while telling ourselves that we’re not aggressing (though energetically, we are). I’m very familiar with passive-aggression. As a four-planets-including-the-Sun-Libra, I’m highly aware of the way a wish not to push or force can marry with an unclaimed passion or unacknowledged want and result in a kind of disingenuousness: anyone being honest with themselves (and so honest with others, which means they are not assuming a co-dependent role in interaction) can see the unstated request for help, information, support, that is contained within the offhand comment, the kind remark, or the ostensibly helpful message offered. Conducting ourselves honestly requires more than just not telling lies; it takes continual vigilance (or really, just a willingness to do two things: say what we want, and not carry an expectation that others will make it happen for us). Something to keep in mind as we interact–and certainly, clarity of communication and intention is a wise thing to aim for.

If Friday drew out passive-aggression, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday bring forward despair, desperate action, greed, the promise of attaining our dreams at the price of our values, deep-dark thoughts, and obsessive-compulsive inclinations–sounds like a minefield, amirite? Rather than dwell on the negative particulars, I’d like to draw attention to the way there will be many inspiring, creative, and rewarding energies available–as long as we don’t succumb to the more easily tapped-into hysteria, negativity, and anger. What’s available Saturday: originality, the kind that can pay and guide smart action, if we’re willing to do ‘the hard work’, whatever that might be; on Sunday we gain significantly if we don’t allow our demons sway (see BML and honesty, above), and if we both face our ‘issues’ and unabashedly admit what it is we want; and on Monday our highest ideals fuel our dreams, and vice versa, and thoughts are equally well aligned with the real-world picture and with our ambitions and goals, making it exceptionally easy to make right choices that get us closer to fulfillment. Have a wonderful weekend, and please consider donating to this or your favorite blog!

Raphaelle Peale − 'Venus Rising From the Sea - A Deception' 1822 {{PD}}

We have to look out for what we don’t immediately see today. Raphaelle Peale − ‘Venus Rising From the Sea – A Deception’ 1822 {{PD}}

The first part of what follows is a reprint from a past issue of ‘ECLIPSE’ on Black Moon Lilith; after that I have a few things to say about today’s conditions.

Black Moon Lilith is found at the ‘empty’ focal point within the Moon’s elliptical orbit (an ellipsis has two focal points—in this case, the Earth occupies one, the other is the Black Moon—so an energy point rather than a body). Where Black Moon Lilith is, we must have complete Truth; she connects us to our most basic integrity and needs, to those things that honor us as god and goddess, as deserving of equal right and equal treatment. She carves away what shames us, dishonors us, or refuses to recognize our right to control our own lives.

Where we find Black Moon Lilith in the chart, we find the point where we can’t allow pretensions, delusions, or behavior that disrespects ourselves, perpetrated by us or received from others. Often Lilith must destroy before she can renew—in that way she represents a compulsive point in the chart that both hypnotically attracts us and simultaneously repels us, as in the process of claiming our Black Moon we meet all those dark things that dishonor us, or that we have ignored or denied, or that enrage us.

The association of (all forms of) Lilith with sex is, I think, almost inadvertent; it seems that in any culture that wants to control behavior, certain fears are invoked, and linking sex and death is one of the most basic ways to tie together a primal urge with a primal fear, in the hope of preventing free sexual expression—so when characterizing Lilith in a patriarchal society where defiance is the worst crime, and death treated as the ultimate punishment, equating defiance with death brings sex along for the ride, so to speak. It’s worth noting, though, that the ‘crime’ the Lilith of the Garden of Eden is charged with, just after her insistence on equality and her banishment, is sex with demons. Sounds to my mind much more like a smear campaign than anything else, where all the cultural taboos are pinned to those figures whose behavior most threatens cultural stability (and so the power elite)

Why is all that important to today? Black Moon Lilith and Zeus are conjoined, while both sesquiquadrate Ceres; this grouping of BML-Zeus is also opposed Uranus-Vesta, with Pluto and Mercury making a T-square, and a trine to the Sun and quincunx to Chiron (though none of these will perfect as the Ceres and Zeus contacts will). Venus conjoins Pluto, with a result that echoes the other aspects, and Mars quincunxes Uranus, spurring us toward spontaneous, surprising, or original action.

The totality of today’s contacts suggest that wants and goals are driven by things we’re not acknowledging, or by rage or power needs not recognized, and it’s in our failure to see our own too-reverent attitude toward ourselves and our impulses that we run the risk of communicating or thinking in a destructive way. We can handle it by trying to maintain a respectful distance in our relationships (no matter how close they are), and by giving the wants and wishes of others as much weight in consideration as we give our own. It’s one of those rare days where in trying to make things happen that are important to us we may unwittingly overstep and destroy what we might otherwise cherish, if only we weren’t so busy.

Today’s word image is Hollywood icon Elizabeth Taylor. What does the conjuring of her image mean to you? What does it bring to mind? Whatever she evokes may figure significantly in your day. For me it’s all that talk of lavender eyes–so I’m on the lookout for the color as a synchronicity flag.
