Van Gogh 1882 ‘The Hague – Carpenter’s Yard and Laundry’ {{PD}}

It’s a complicated day full of complicated feelings, but we can gain something truly worthwhile from it, can see the Love, or even where and how to access resources, if we can get a little distance mentally and emotionally from what will feel like violations of our highest values–and this could include things causing disruption on the home front, with the spouse/ mate/ partner, or with those areas of life we honor and consider sacred–whether we are aware or not of holding that attitude.

Our sense of effectiveness, of our ability to express our Will, the urge to be different or to follow the group (whatever is unlike our usual inclination), to show our originality, all will threaten (or at least seem to require adjustment to) what we name a priority–and our need to earn, or our relationships, may pressure what we deem important in such a way that we may feel we must dishonor our highest values in order to deal with circumstances.

There are two elements that may make things even more difficult to handle: one is the way communications (and our own thinking!) will rub us the wrong way, surprising or shocking or causing a kind of feeling anarchy within; and two is the way our own choices and actions will be, not just anti-instinctual, but will undermine our creativity, and could possibly be based on accepting misunderstanding, believing a lie, or embracing a fantasy or deception as reality.

The peak discord will be from about 1 PM Pacific, just before the Moon enters Void status, through entry into Taurus at 4:12 PM PST. During that brief window it may be particularly hard to contain or even pinpoint our feelings–and this really will be the problem for the whole day, where it permeates events in a less intense form: that there is such internal discord, and or tough demands made by other facets of the life, that we may lose perspective and become alienated from our own core values–and so go astray because of it.

Out of all this, though, comes something related to the current position of transiting Venus (at 18 Scorpio), or through matters of the Houses Venus rules in the natal chart, that is positive, enlightening, and that fosters a bright new understanding of or knowledge concerning the Self (Vesta qnx Juno, Uranus contraparallel and Venus sesq Vesta, Mars contraparallel Sedna and sesq Neptune, Merc sq Uranus, Sun novile Venus)

Do you know your priorities and goals? Not those things you think you care about, but where your energy really goes? The dissonance between what we tell ourselves we want and what the Soul (working through the unconscious) drives us toward is what causes personal discord and stalls progress. Find out by examining your natal Vesta--and enjoy your Sunday!

We have the drive, and the focus, to fulfill ambitions (or at least to create the circumstances that will pave the way), and we aren’t afraid to, as they say, break a few eggs to get that omelet made. The best part may be that we can see the value in our wounds, the way our hurts have given us wisdom and shaped us into the person we are now. We are bringing all our skills, learning, and experience to bear on achieving our goals–and that means thinking is laser-focused, concentrated on power expression and making successful change in our world. Is there any down side to today’s influences? There is a destructive quality, even a cruelty, about communications, so keenly aimed are they at accomplishment; that could mean we are less than sensitive to the needs of others. We could also be tempted to wallow a bit in hurt, as we’ll so appreciate the things we gain from it that we could forget the real purpose is to help us move forward. The Aries Moon doesn’t help, making us even more Self-focused, and the Moon’s meeting with Uranus around 4 PM PST suggests a point when we will be most likely thinking individually, and perhaps seem unreliable to others as a result (and we may see others this way, too.) Under the right circumstances the conjoining of Luna and Uranus could blend our own interests with those of the group, making us willing to share our energy and so serving both causes–and this could be emotionally freeing. We can be very effective today in moving toward our desires–just try not to lose sight of other priorities (relationships, financials, values, that might not seem so important right now) in the process.

Henrik Weber - 'Composer Mihály Mosonyi and his Wife' 1840s {{PD}}

Henrik Weber – ‘Composer Mihály Mosonyi and his Wife’ 1840s {{PD}}

I know! It’s a minor aspect–but it may be the key to handling all the other aspects perfecting the 18th. It may be easy to feel stupid (Chiron sextile Pallas) and we may feel we must make significant adjustments in areas of Love or Money in order to express ourselves as thoroughly and uniquely as we like (Venus qnx Uranus); or, that feeling of lacking wisdom may come directly from a surprise in relationships or finances we believe we should’ve seen coming. Of course, the negative slant of these attitudes predispose us to give more attention and weight to what we’d normally ignore or deny for our own mental health and/ or effective functioning (Merc sq Black Moon Lilith), and could foster scrutiny of our own Path, a ‘Where Have I Been, Where Am I Going?’ question, or even an abrupt ‘Who the hell am I?” (Sun sq Nodal axis) that won’t currently be clear (or even intellectually accessible, considering the way our thoughts will be plagued by rage over injustices, or those matters usually dismissed–Merc sq BML–which means we’ll lack the objectivity we need to sort out these kinds of questions).

The novile, then, offers us a brilliant pairing between Water and Earth, emotion and the physical or material, between reaching out to connect or teach and reaching out to command, or in the social role enhancing our expression of our own empowerment, or vice versa, affecting our social role by flexing our muscles and showing our stuff. Jupiter and Juno reach out to each other and create a synergy that’s much greater than we might otherwise expect; it’s a case of two powerful entities (working together within the psyche, and/ or one played by ourselves, one by something external) acting so perfectly in concert that we don’t really have to think much about it–it just comes together on its own.

Though this marriage is natural, it won’t necessarily be without inequities or strife. This could involve us in an interaction of grossly uneven proportion, where one party holds the majority of power, or where one of the parties has status but lacks the respect needed to pull something off–that’s where the partner comes in, supplying the pull to make it happen, with the other supplying the backbone or needed judgment, without which the power expression might fizzle to nothing. So, it may be that negative currents today are handled by the kind of acceptance and cooperation typical of any partnership–not without problems or compromises, but in effect significantly more relevant than what either could accomplish alone.

The signs in which the two are placed (Jupiter in Virgo, Juno in Scorpio) suggest some sting, some criticism, but also a masterly eye for detail and depth of understanding–and who couldn’t use a little more of that? Enjoy your Friday!

Circumstances may make us feel the judgments within and without are almost this harsh–but it’s only our awareness of reality that’s unusually sharp. Master of Soriguerola – ‘Saint Michael Weighing Souls’ Early 14th century {{PD}}

We’ll be given the opportunity to weigh Self-expression with no boundaries against what we want, especially in relationships–and we’ll gain in exact proportion to two things: how easily we accept our own internal wisdom, that guidance offered by the voice within, and how thoroughly we accept the extent of our own power and our power to affect things, even as we acknowledge those authorities greater than ourselves. That last is a tricky balancing act, calling for some clear-eyed knowledge of who we are that refuses to shy away from both our actual ability to make change (immense!) and the reality that in some cases, others really do hold the power (and so exercise the options), not us. Of course, there are ways we can affect things even in the most restricted circumstances–but today may be all about seeing that withdrawal of our effort or energy just because things aren’t precisely as we’d like them to be ultimately only sabotages ourselves. Note especially those situations where something we value is in direct conflict with either Nature or the Powers-That-Be–and know that in that case, to exercise our want is, in some vital way, purely destructive (Perfecting today: Uranus sq Pallas, Venus sq Ceres and sxt Pluto).

Alexandre Cabanel – ‘Echo’ 1874 {{PD}}

That weird, echo-y feeling is nothing but the internal reverb between what we think we are and what we are in reality; today brings encounters, circumstances, and incidents that all point to this inevitable internal dissonance–and it’s up to us to ‘mind the gap’.  Our sense of woundedness is entangled with empowerment and status issues, and what draws our attention and takes center spot in our thoughts is part felt (through instinct) and part response (albeit unconscious) to those things we know but don’t–you know? The saving grace comes in the form of action and want, especially in relationship; a willingness to trust our impulses to do, to trust our choices, and to assert ourselves for what we desire will smooth out any internal discord and drown out a propensity to dwell on an ideal of perfection that we’ll never achieve, and which is a poor standard against which to rate our current, real-life effectiveness and elan (Chiron sesq Juno, Mars parallel Vesta, Merc sesq and Sun qnx Sedna).

Self-doubt could wear us out today. ‘Art and Literature’ by William-Adolphe Bouguereau 1866 {{PD}}

On the 15th our instincts and our ‘blind spot’ material (things influencing us we aren’t consciously aware of, yet are easily seen by others) undermine our sense of empowerment and effectiveness–and that’s really all that matters, isn’t it? Without believing in ourselves we won’t act as if we have a right–a right to exercise our prerogatives, a right to assert ourselves, a right to openly claim our status and the privileges that go with it. We can get a handle on our doubts if we tame the emotions with a cool intellectual analysis of our circumstances (Aquarius Moon conjoined Ceres around 4 AM Pacific Standard Time)–that may allow us to, in the modern vernacular, “own our own power”–that’s our best hope for combating the Self-doubt that may plague us today (Perfecting: Juno contra-parallel Sedna).

Oh, damn, we’re back to rebellion again, refusing the social order or other ‘oppressor’ with the flaming resistance of a thousand Suns. Why? Our imaginations are working overtime; we can’t quite see the potential rewards ahead of us, and we’re freaking out, succumbing to every worst-case scenario we’ve ever considered. That’s what happens when we fail to channel the creative urge into something structured or meaningful: it permeates the mind with all the horrid fantasies we’ve ever dreaded could be, and we look around for a source of all the anxiety–and guess who we fix on? Everyone and everything that exemplifies beliefs different than our own, that holds to just the facts (without elaborate justifications–that feels threatening), and/ or that contradicts our ego. Don’t we sound like a problem? We aren’t really, it’s just that our minds feel solid, reliable, and concerned with the real world (Mercury in Capricorn), even as they are swamped by our out-of-control imaginings. This is compounded by the way others feel just as sure, and are just as much under the spell of Neptune, making us a little paranoid and a lot certain that panic or anger is the answer. Realize the mind and thoughts aren’t reliable today, and you’ve already won half the battle–then put that creative energy to work, making Mom a clay ashtray, or something (Mars contra-parallel Uranus, Venus semi-sq NN, Mercury sextile Neptune, Sun sq Jupiter)

13 December 2015 Perfecting Ambitions

The world really is your oyster; a new ‘I Am’ can be born. ‘A Water Baby’ Herbert James Draper 1899 {{PD}}

Recently we’ve been treated to displays and revelations specifically focused on the ambition picture, both for ourselves and for others; now we’re past that need to rebel, the urge to be unreliable in a misguided show of independence, we’re no longer choosing in reaction to the group or some imagined sense of oppression, and finally, finally, we are ready to express our original ideas, our unique concepts and approaches, in the areas where our ambitions lie. We have the energy, focus, and strength to pursue exactly what we desire–and, whether we are conscious of it or not, we are in some way entirely endowed to achieve precisely what we want. This may be the point where many stumble: over the idea that they are already empowered, holding the status, or receiving the support needed to make their ambitions live; they don’t, can’t, or won’t believe they already have what they need, and this will be the thing that stops them–though of course, they’ll see it as a lack of a vital lynchpin that, if they’d only possessed it, would’ve fulfilled their dreams. It’s one of those periods when the whole world conspires to empower you, to give you what you want–why wouldn’t you open your arms and accept it? (The aspects that created the past effect were recent oppositions of Mars and Zeus to Uranus; aspects perfecting today are Mars conjoined Zeus, Juno parallel Zeus)

‘At home, or Intimacy’
Louise Catherine Breslau 1884 {{PD}}

Perfecting today is a parallel between Juno and Vesta; this translates as the two bodies being on the same side of, and at the same distance from, the celestial equator (which is itself an imagined projection of the Earth’s equator out into space). We might consider them loosely quincunx, otherwise, with Juno late in the 0 degree of Scorpio and Vesta heading toward 2 degrees Aries, but the parallel adds to the story: where we might’ve seen these two as requiring adjustment to each other, now we see that, despite surface tension, they are really working in harmony, not like two sides of a balance, weighing out their differences–more like parents who disagree fundamentally but manage to align their goals completely when it comes to common interests like the family’s economic welfare or their children.

Each goddess retains her priorities, in this case probably getting to the Truth (Juno in Scorpio) and honoring the needs of the ‘I Am’ (Vesta in Aries). On the face of it this can look like one party concentrating completely outward, focused on others, following a passion, getting down and dirty in the search for ‘What Is’ (Scorpio), while the other seems to be Self-absorbed, concerned with reaching goals (which are treated as sacred) and expressing the personal Will (which is treated the same way); but the reality may be found where the truth of the interaction is found.

Where an investigation into the reality picture meets the needs and expression of the individual, that’s where you’ll find the meaning of this pairing. It will definitely look as if the world is divided into truth-searchers and Self-interested seekers, but the actual actions will be interlocking and so, once each adjusts for the other, complementary. Look for those who are ‘Queen’ of something, those who shoulder responsibility, who exercise and are concerned with their status and reach, and who are concerned with the conduct or fidelity of all kinds of partners or co-‘rulers’, and those who seem to be operating to further the individual agenda but who are proceeding according to their highest standards and values, and so therefore are looking to create ideal circumstances on a scale wider than first glance reveals–each will have her function, each her use, with the result that unlike entities may find themselves coming to a cooperative understanding or an agreement to go forward in concert, where a short while ago such teamwork would’ve seemed untenable.

10-11 December 2015 and a New Moon in Sagittarius

‘Sommervergnügen’ Anders Zorn 1885 {{PD}}

The aspects for the 10th and leading up to the New Moon in Sagittarius on the 11th are fraught with tension and a sense of ‘Big Moments’–and yet, depending on how one or more of these hook into your personal chart, much of the tension and revelation may only occur on an interior level; that is, we could brace ourselves for a big splash yet hit the water only in our own minds. At least some of this effect could come from the Dark of the Moon preceding the New Moon–but, we could be inordinately occupied with hurt from the past, with establishing a smart power position or wise transformation in service to facilitating and maximizing our creative efforts and the rewards they will bring, and yet we are too ambition focused, and our thinking is too much in conflict with what we truly value, to be effective. We may find ourselves in a ‘Me vs. the Group’ situation, or worse, in a fight against our own originality or rebelling against (and so rejecting) those qualities that make us different–which of course are so often the keys to making the most of our creativity and our opportunities!

Frustrating may be too mild a word to describe the influences on the 10th, though what we need to remember is that, despite the tension we can make stellar progress in both instituting wise change and in gaining reward and creating opportunity related to our creative and spiritual goals, if we honor our ambitions and goals with the same respect we show to our ability to earn and our ability to ‘own’ (that is, be responsible for) our own thoughts and energy dedication. We can advance our wants in direct proportion to our willingness to be both autonomous and dedicated to what we’re pursuing. No blame belongs to others or circumstances, in terms of our own progress–it’s all up to us (Chiron parallel SN, Pluto conjoined Pallas, Mars opp Uranus, Venus semi-sq Jupiter and trine Neptune, Merc sq Vesta, Sun sxt Zeus).

The 11th reinforces this, and potentially, at least, offers a payoff, reward, or an opportunity to exercise our talents and abilities in a way that directly supports our goals–but this may only appear if we embrace responsibility for our own situation on the 10th, and then negotiate our actions and choices in such a way that we do not allow a sense of victimization or hurt to drive our direction (Vesta parallel Zeus, Mars qnx Chiron, Venus novile NN, Merc novile Ceres). And then, of course, there’s the New Moon.

The Sun and Moon meet at 19 Sagittarius 02 on the 11th at 2:28 AM Pacific time. The NM creates a rough arm to a loose opposition of Chiron to Jupiter, suggesting that what is born (or conceived) at this point will offer some sort of answer to or spark a reconciliation within a situation where wounds may have been in direct conflict with (and so preventing progress toward) current opportunities–and if we count the Earth, we actually have a Grand Cross, which promises a material solution, effect, or outcome to the T’s energies.

The NM also trines Uranus, lending events a sudden, spontaneous, or surprising quality, and for those who have natal placements in the 15-20 range of Leo, this NM brings a chance to achieve balance between a Uranian element in your life (your own rebelliousness, originality, intellect, or in interaction with the group) and the natal energy, through the new start of the New Moon. The NM also sextiles Mars and Zeus, sending the energy of the NM inception naturally to our ambition and desire-related choices, especially as they manifest in relationships (Libra)–and again, if one has a placement at 17-18 Taurus, one receives a Finger of God from the New Moon, implying that what begins here, and prompts action or choice involving the goals or ambitions, resolves through expression of the natal energy, or through matters of the House it rules, if any. And as an aside, anything outside these two degrees won’t count toward formation of a Finger, simply because we need to keep the base contacts within quincunx range of orb (no more than 2 degrees for any involved body).

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘In An Old-Fashioned Northern Village Men Cut The Ice Of A Frozen Pond For Use During The Summer’ This may emphasize the commonality and shared resources of Sagittarius; that is, the accumulated wisdom, learning, facts, knowledge, that are shaped, preserved, passed from one to another, stored for later use. This New Moon adds to our knowledge, possibly through our own efforts in concert with others, and though we may not realize it at the time, what we’re learning will be important in a different ‘season’. This Sabian offers a kind of advice: don’t discount what information you acquire or are privy to now–you will definitely find it useful, even a luxury (ice in summer) to be enjoyed later.

The general picture is one of tension resolved by the New Moon and leading to revelation or the acquisition of information that we’ll find useful in future–not a big splash, necessarily, but one that has an effect, nonetheless.
