3 February 2011: Decision Day

It’s decision day–or maybe not, considering this excerpt from the Lunar outlook on the ECLIPSE readers protected page:

The Moon in Aquarius may have to struggle for our attention; with Sun conjunct Mars also in the sign of the waterbearer, the emotions may feel shunted to the side–it may be like the ego/ identity asserting itself will take center stage, and the feelings will be filtered through the intellect (Aquarius). It may make for a disconnected feeling that seems to be all ‘I am, I want.’ Sensitives may be just that; like an open wound, we may seek to assuage an unattributable sadness or hurt, but the mind makes a poor band-aid, and we could end up feeling woefully neglected in our quest to just feel better.

I’m going to spend the day meditating on whether to continue public posts at all; being ripped off is not a good feeling, especially when the perpetrators hide behind cutesy screen names, which are supposed to indicate they are One with Nature and therefore what they do is GOOD, and who become indignant, screeching about their rights, when they are asked to remove stolen material. I won’t even approach these people anymore. The internet seems to have spawned a group of users who believe that to exploit the work of others is their privilege; it’s already driven some of my colleagues to leave the scene entirely. So, I invite those who want to continue to read what I have to say to subscribe–this seems to be the only way I can control access to my work, and to earn a decent wage. I know many are on tight budgets–but after years of showing up, day after day, and delivering free content, only to have it taken by others, I’m fairly sure I’m getting off this merry-go-round. Consider that you don’t go to work for free–and neither should I. Here’s an example: say I make lovely ceramic ash trays !!! and there are samples of my ceramic creations that I give away, and we are at a fair (the internet) where everyone has a table. Say someone comes to my table and takes armloads of my samples and puts them on their table. They think my samples are pretty and believe they will draw attention to their work. When I object, they say, “But you’re giving them away, so why can’t I take them and use them to get people to come to my business? I’m not selling them–I’M TAKING YOUR WORK AND GIVING IT AWAY”–but they are selling memberships (or other things) at their table–And that’s where they miss the point–it’s my work, and copyright laws allow me (and my heirs for seventy years after my death) to decide what happens to it–not someone trying to drum up membership sales at their Magical Mystical Fairy Forum–where most of the content is ‘borrowed’ and that’s what you’re supposed to pay them to see!

So, I will spend the day thinking on it–and believe me, this is the last time I’ll address it. (I hear a massive sigh of relief! I think that was me and everyone else!) Consider that the cost of a subscription to my newsletter is equivalent to one latte a month, is less than the cost of a single pack of cigarettes, one movie ticket, or one microbrew, per month, and that the newsletter and protected page provide guidance, astrological instruction, and a wee splash of entertainment–and then you can make your decision, too.

Many thanks to those who have subscribed–watch for an EXTRA! to your email later today.

2 February 2011: The New Moon-Where It Begins

The February New Moon is at 13 Aquarius 53 at 6:29 PM Pacific on the 2nd. We have some very interesting aspects within our 2 degree orb. The Sun and Moon are flanked like royalty (a tribute from the balancing companion of Leo?) with Ceres on one side and Mars on the other. Protected by the Warrior and Mother Nature, we have to ask, What’s so important that it causes the New Moon to rate an honor guard?

Maybe it’s the trine to h. Zeus; coupled with the Aquarian placement of Ceres, Moon, Sun, and Mars, we may see a seed planted for a revolutionary personal plan that expresses a strongly-held ambition or desire. It will need the support of the ego, the Will, the guidance and wind-at-our-backs aid of Mother Nature, and can definitely be called a Plan for the Future. Think carefully about your options, and be sure you are both enthusiastic (Mars) and in sync with what’s natural for you (and this should play to a strength, some area or asset where you have authority–Ceres).

The Sabian Symbol for the New Moon might give us a bit of a chuckle: ‘A Train Entering A Tunnel’ In true old Hollywood fashion, we can laugh at the Freudian symbolism formed in cultures so repressed (the Victorian) that even roasted turkey legs wore ‘skirts’ for modesty! And once we’re done laughing, we note that this is just another way of talking about the seed, inception, insemination, beginning, the sense of which has already been floating around, looking to find fertile ground that we’re willing to tend.

PS IF YOU SEE MORE THAN A PARAGRAPH OF THIS POST AT OTHER THAN AN APPROVED AGGREGATOR (listed at right) THEN YOU’RE LOOKING AT STOLEN MATERIAL. I’ve once again had the entire post taken–is there a link to this blog? Yes; MY STATED POSITION IS THAT THIS DOES NOT MITIGATE YOUR NEED TO RESPECT MY COPYRIGHT. Does the taking of nearly the entire post (she conveniently left out only the brief final suggestion that if you want more you can subscribe) violate my terms of use? Yes. What stops these people from simply asking permission? I guess thieves don’t think it’s worth building relationships and respecting others. I’m just about ready to quit posting publicly at all.

One never knows what might occur to one in a moment of repose AL Egg 1862

Today the Sun and Ceres are conjunct, and the Moon’s conjunction to Pallas, followed by her square to Saturn (noon to 4 PM Pacific) all emphasize the same theme: issues of who knows best, who holds authority, and who’s in charge are paramount. This is a good time to think about what authority you want, and who’s in charge of what, particularly when it comes to your personal life–but don’t show your hand just yet–only think on it.

10 PM PST brings a trine of the Moon to Sedna, and the celebrated ‘blind spot’–just accept that emotion and intuition are currently on the fritz, and agree with others to ‘know we don’t know’ (or maybe that’s ‘feel’)! By 7:30 AM of the 1st of February, the Moon will conjunct Mercury, and be within the midpoint of Venus/ Neptune (which is of course also occupied by Merc). This is a seminal moment for creative types–take note of what comes to mind right now, as the Dark period, combined with these elements, makes for extra-open access to the creative and to the unconscious (which we all know is where all the best stuff is kept!) I hope you’ll join me in the new ECLIPSE newsletter service (sign up at right), for weekly forecasts, articles, and access to the protected page here at the blog. Thanks!

'Portrait of a Lady as Diana the Huntress' Batoni c.1760

Oh Mars/ Ceres! You’re together in Aquarius–and that implies that if the mentalities can align their approach, two warriors (for that’s what they are–isn’t every mother?) can mow down any opposition with little resistance. Internally this can signal a very assertive harmony of thought and action–little is allowed to get in our way!

It’s after 6 AM PST (Moon enters Cap at 6:04 AM) before the Moon hits her next target (Diana was an Archer, a Huntress, right? We tend to forget that the Moon isn’t all dreamy, intuitive emotion, but that it has energy and purpose!) The conjunction with Vesta at 00 sets the tone: we want to do things right, we want to be right, in the sense of being righteous–and as much as this can spur good deeds, good works, good attitude it can foster a sense of superiority and ‘do as I say’-ness–so just take a measured approach, as in Capricorn the Moon can get carried away in trying to pin ‘it’ down and reach her goals. The 8 AM square to Jupiter says ‘Big Emotion’–try to keep it out of the public eye, as it’s almost certain to be an exaggeration. Around 6:30 PM PST we hit the Dark of the Moon, which will assist our meditations and excavations no end.

'The Girls in the Boat' Edelfelt 1881

The story here is a slew of bodies posited within just 56 degrees, starting with the Moon at 13 Sagittarius as the 29th begins here in the Pacific time zone. Next is Venus at 23 Sag, Vesta at 00 Capricorn, North Node at 2 Cap, Pluto at 6 Cap, Pallas at 15 Cap, Mercury at 21 Cap, Sun at 9 Aquarius, and Ceres and Mars both at 10 Aquarius. It makes me think of a boat on the sea, with all the passengers rushed to one side (probably to see something–Sag; to grab a seat–Cap; and to lead the group or follow a friend–Aquarius!) It weights the Universe in a direction that seems highly interactive, demanding of our energy and attention, focused in a very small portion of the natal chart. Where this gathering stretches across your chart is the place that will be jumpin’–or, will make you jump! It’s a command to think hard, work hard, and reach out–the challenge will be to respond adequately to the Universe without nursing a feeling that we’re being distracted–we’re instead being pointed in the right, momentary direction.

As to the Moon, she’ll sweep over these energies through the 2nd of February, touching off each one, asking that we give them our attention, one at a time. Today the focus is on Venus–relationships, values, and finances all come under scrutiny from within and without, and we may find ourselves facing a lot of questions about how well our current circumstances are serving our needs in these areas. Venus in Sag naturally makes us think of ways to expand her influence–and now we’re looking for a little Self-empowerment, as well (Juno opposed Uranus).

'The Gathering of Manna' c.1550 by Bacchiacca {{PD-Art}}

Around 12:30 AM PST the Sagittarius Moon trines Jupiter; if we’ve been looking for some clues as to the emotional effects of Jupiter’s sign change, we can get them now, chiefly by reaching out, through the social arena, and/ or through what’s published or broadcast, and also possibly through a religious (as opposed to a spiritual) experience (not always one and the same).

1:30 in the afternoon Pacific the Moon reflects that gathering of Sun, Ceres, and Mars in Aquarius. This lasts well into evening, and gives a large experience (I can’t think of any other way to put it!) that is revealing for what it tells us about our identity, our sense of authority, and our willingness to assert and aggress. The question is, how much will we do to promote and protect our own interests, and how much will we bow to the identity issues, sense of authority, and ego and assertion matters of others? This period should be surveyed with that in mind; gather information, about yourself and others, as it will make knowing what to do (or choose) later much easier. The trine to Earth just after 2 PM PST will make material matters come forward, all in the light of the ongoing reflection of the gathering in Aquarius.

27 January 2011: “Don’t Speak!”

Tags

,

This is how “Don’t speak!” should play out

1:30 AM PST we see the Moon sextile Capricorn Mercury–is it just me, or does this feel like an instance of banging our emotional heads against a stone wall? The Scorpio Moon won’t want to contain itself, and that’s all Cappy Merc wants to do. It reminds me of that character played by Dianne Wiest in ‘Bullets Over Broadway’: she was a very dramatic individual, romanticizing every conversation in her own mind, so that anytime anyone tried to say something to her, she would extend her hand, clap it over their mouth, and in husky, hushed tones exclaim, “Don’t speak!” I see this aspect as something like that, Scorpio Moon just wanting to express, Cappy Merc determined to cut it off at the pass, despite what should be a co-operative relationship (the sextile). Of course, we can add that Merc is also square newly retro Saturn–though that seems if it was revved up today, silence would be easy–but I think Saturn is all about itself right now, and with Pallas still within conjunction of Mercury, we might feel what we have to say is just too smart to keep to ourselves!

Coming up on 6 PM PST the Moon squares Neptune and trines Uranus. If we try to live a fantasy, or pass off a delusion or lie as reality, conflict will ensue. Conflict will specifically be fueled by the individuality urge, the need to feel unique or special, that will prompt the tall tale in the first place. Try not to talk smack :)

Sure, that's me, just hangin' out, playin' a little fiddle for my friends Irma von Duczynska 1914 {{PD}}

8 AM Pacific and the Moon squares Mars–temper is like a stone against flint, the flare fed by emotions too long neglected. By 10 AM PST the Moon is square Ceres; authorities may step in, settle (or cause!) conflict, or we may become highly aware of in what way our emotional nature is failing to connect with the environment.

How are you and the Saturn Retrograde getting along? With the exact square to Mercury in Cardinals, we may be having a very active ‘thought life’–with the retro period focusing us on our reality, and how we may change it ( or it may change us!)

Saturn’s Retrograde-Jan 2011

'Father Time (aka Saturn) Overcome by Love, Hope, and Beauty' 1627 Simon Vouet {{PD}}

The Old Man turns around at 10:09 PM Pacific Time tonight, the 25th, from his position at 17 Libra 13. What should we expect? Nothing will necessarily happen right away; the retrograde of the slower bodies tends to sneak up on us like an ACME anvil dropped by a plotting coyote from a great height: we do not actually feel the flattening until we are smooshed–up until then, we only get a hint of a shadow from the descending object and the whisper of something, something big and relentless and unstoppable moving toward us.

We can examine matters of the natal House where the turnaround occurs, as well as any close aspects Saturn is currently making in the sky and any he makes to our natal placements–these will all offer clues. Right now, using a 3 degree orb, Saturn is sextile Venus, square Pallas and Mercury, which are still conjunct, and conjunct my lieblings h.Zeus; the picture is of hard-to-hear but wise messages delivered, profit or relationship harmony solidified, and still operating with an eye on ambitions and desires and making them happen. But what happens when a major player withdraws his support?

There are typically two kinds of response to a Saturn retrograde: one may feature the famous change to what we thought was solid and sure, basically a replacement of what was sure with what’s uncertain, or we may be freed-up from restrictions or containment–it can be a time of realizing that our reality is not bound in quite the way we thought it was. So, we can see either of these basic approaches (or both, as some people experience one internally, one externally) applied to difficult-but-smart communications, a reality or materially-based relationship or earning/ financial situation, and perhaps a challenge: those ambitions and desires you’ve been working to solidify just might happen (or dissolve once and for all into dust) at this point–are you ready to get what you want? Or do you believe something will be taken away from you?

25 January 2011: ‘The Invisible Man’

Tags

Claude Rains and Gloria Stuart in 'The Invisible Man' 1933

From 10 PM of the 24th right through 5 AM PST of the 25th, the Moon and Venus form the base of a Finger of God with apex Sedna. It’s like those old ‘Invisible Man’ movies, where once the bandages came off he could sneak around and spy on the bad guys–something compels our emotional life and relationships, yet we can’t see it–an energy exerts itself on us and we don’t know what it is, or why we are pushing in a certain direction (this will be wherever Sedna, currently at 21 Taurus 30, sits in the natal chart). This could be materials, value, artisanal skills, or security-oriented, or could have the features of the House involved; if Sedna is currently aspecting natal bodies, particularly by conjunction, this could signal a major episode for you.

By 3 PM PST the Moon sextiles Vesta, reminding us through the emotions and intuition of what’s most important to us. 4:30 PM sees the Moon trine Chiron–it may be easy to hurt and be hurt, but more likely we just become extra-sensitive. Void begins at 4:43 PM PST, ends with the Moon’s entry into Scorpio at 6:15 PM Pacific, and we start the transit with a need to adjust the emotional picture to the social scene, or to some knowledge we’ve acquired (quincunx to Jupiter).

Subscription forms for the newsletter version of ECLIPSE  will be up late this week!
