Tom Thomson – ‘The West Wind’ c1916 {{PD}}

We have a single, subtle aspect perfecting today, Pallas contra-parallel Ceres; it may be entirely subliminal, exerting an influence below conscious awareness–and that can lend it way more punch than it deserves. What’s wise or practical comes up against any role we play that sees us exerting our personal power, negotiating for what we want, or calling the shots with those over whom we hold sway. Somehow, taking charge contradicts the smart move, and exercising our Will turns out to be impractical. Does that mean holding back, taking cover, abdicating responsibility, is our best choice? Not necessarily; both bodies are in Fire, and that may suggest that this discord is a prompt to find a new, smarter way to make our Will felt, to offer our guidance, or to take a ‘Big Picture’ stance in negotiations. Old forms of Power expression don’t work as they used to, and what’s wise has changed over time; this aspect brings that reality to our attention, and asks us to adapt, if we want to remain potent and relevant.

‘Fleeing skeleton’ By Władysław Podkowiński 1891 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is: the last book you purchased. Have you read it yet? What did it come to mean to you? Or is it all in the title, a personal message from the Universe like a note in a bottle that washes up at your feet? In my case, I’m going with the title of a book I picked up just today: ‘The Bone Clocks’ by David Mitchell. Sounds like attending to my aging skeleton might be advisable! What about you?

Михаил М. Гужавин (Mikhail Markelovich Guzhavin)- Зимняя ночь (1917) {{PD}}

It’s a day of reckoning, where our optimism is tempered with a stark awareness of how and why our hopes and intentions may not mesh with the current life direction, and where opportunities may cause conflict with our plans (Jupiter sq Nodal axis)–and this, in turn, might play on our wounds, and make us question our own strength and fitness to live out our choices (Mars sesq Chiron, Sun sesq Ceres). With Saturn and the Sun just entering Capricorn, and Merc freshly direct, we may feel a wee bit overwhelmed, as if barriers and dead ends are popping up everywhere. The reality, though, is that we’re being asked to slow down and take a thorough look, both at where we are and what we want. Venus helps, as she enters Cap, attuning us to the benefits of hard work and the parameters of concrete realities, even as she conjoins Saturn and novile Vesta, showing us what we treasure (and so are sure we want to keep solid) in terms of commitments, relationships, and those things we honor. If we see there’s no hurry, we can embrace our needs, values, and priorities, and so see clearly how we want things to progress.

Today’s word image is a piece of embroidery that takes years to complete. Is there some project you’ve been working on, piece by piece, for a long time? Have you put off completing it for some time, because it’s complicated, or other life events have called? Or is that a way to see life, each ‘stitch’ (choice/ action) creating a pattern that close up isn’t discernible, but makes a distinct ‘picture’ when viewed from a distance?

The only aspect perfecting today is a parallel of Mars and Juno. That may not sound like much, until you consider that puts the need for personal empowerment together with the ego, the sex drive, the action urge, the Will, the ‘I Am’, and the very energy that gets us out of bed in the morning! We may not even realize how strong our push, not just for autonomy, but for making an impact, making a difference, or making waves might be. Self-awareness and caution are highly prized today, but so is the opportunity to make significant inroads in meaningful, personal goals and in advancing the individual agenda.

‘View of a Corridor’ 1662 By Samuel van Hoogstraten {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a bag of birdseed that bursts, sending seed everywhere. ‘Eating like a bird’ comes to mind, a phrase meant to indicate a delicate appetite, even though we now know that birds eat tremendous amounts for their size each and every day–and that suggests some appetite or ‘push’ toward something that we or others see as or are characterizing as something quite the opposite to what it actually is. Where is want being portrayed as quite modest, when it’s really quite ravenous? Do you want to furnish a massive amount of whatever it is that’s required, or are you thinking it’s time to align appetites and consumption so that there’s no misperception of where resources are going?

‘Feeding the Doves’ By George Dunlop Leslie {{PD}}

The Dark of the Moon leading up to the New Moon in Sagittarius will be gently fraught with energies that may make us feel a little anxious or aggressive, but that channeled successfully will actually lead to profit, originality, and successfully bringing forward lessons learned in the past and applying them to construct the future (Venus sxt Zeus and semi-sq Mars, Mercury sxt SN/ trine NN, Sun trine Uranus-Pallas) Relationships support ambitions, even if we may find it a tad hard to get others to take action in the way we envision, and despite Merc’s retro status, we see what’s smart, what’s practical, and what is uniquely suited to the current situation. All this is available if we take a cool, intellectual or innovative approach to matters (Juno enters Aquarius), and if we take the Merc retro precaution of being fully aware that there are facets of our decisions and information of which we don’t yet have knowledge.

By the 17th we’ll have found the ‘right’ creative channels and our own most profitable and authoritative role, and our actions and choices are likely fortuitous, despite being a wee bit haunted by doubts or the fear that we’re missing some vital clue. We end up finding that priorities and values are challenged to prove their relevance and veracity; as long as we’re clear on our ideals, we’ll have a solid ability to assess the direction in which our actions and choices are taking us.

Hint: The key to dealing with Mercury retrograde this time around may be in compartmentalizing ‘thought areas’, tackling them in narrow, one-at-a-time fashion that doesn’t demand we mentally process everything at once, just one small specific matter before us–and of course, use our feeling nature, as much or more than we use our minds, to suss out the landscape.

Word image for the weekend is: a dove, caught in a chimney. The global symbol of peace enters a conduit intended to release smoke and toxic gasses and then can’t find its way out. Sounds like the experience of the current Collective spirit! On a personal level, this suggests that our sense of cooperation, our willingness to live in harmony with others, our inner intentionality of causing no harm has taken a wrong turn, and is in danger of being extinguished. We can put it another way: our feelings of hope may be floundering, slowly poisoned by a loss of freedom, autonomy, and a chokingly toxic atmosphere. All is not lost; it will take careful, gentle, persistent efforts, but our sense of hope can be returned to its natural, free state–so don’t give up on those things that ‘keep hope alive’.

Or, is there a scenario in play right now where you feel someone is ‘shoving peace down your throat’, demanding a passive, play-nice interaction, despite your actual feelings. If so, time, with great care, to extricate yourself from constraints and express how you feel.

See the New Moon of the 17th here–and have a wonderful weekend!

Your Weekend 9-10 December 2017 The Truth of Things

‘The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed in the Sun’ c1807 William Blake {{PD}}

While all our attention is on Mars entering Scorpio on the 9th, we may find things take on a Plutonian tone, and we’d be forgiven for thinking this shift is why–but it’s not. Mars moving into Scorpio is a bit like this, debuting as a kind of Willfulness uncaring of waste or destruction, acting to make a point, to dig down, or even to get revenge–but what occurs, whether actions and choices bring results arrived at accidentally or deliberately, is that the Truth of things is revealed. Not a bad result at all for a transit that may feel very bull-in-a-china-shop–and of course, as Mars continues through the sign, it aspects individual factors in the natal chart, tailoring the experience to each of us uniquely.

On the 9th that Plutonian feeling is much more likely attributable to another set of contacts, and these promise truths arise out of unwise or impractical financial matters or relationship interactions (Venus parallel Pluto and sesq Pallas). The darker corners of our personal intimacies are lit up, and we may have the opportunity to see, and change, those less-than-smart facets of relationships or in our approach to money, earning, or asset management. We may even want to ‘go to war’ over Venusian life areas, but we need to know that urge would be prompted by our own darkness as it seeks an external target–so a crusade is definitely not a good idea at this time–and in its milder form brings to mind the old saying about how when you point at someone, four of your fingers are actually pointing back at you.

What’s most central to things, though, is the state of retrograde Mercury: parallel both Saturn and the Sun, trine Pallas, and quincunx Sedna. The mind, though not functioning as it normally does, is attuned to the reality picture and aware of what’s wise, smart, or practical–temporarily it’s only instincts and a more active mental stance that are on the fritz. That means that if we take in what is in a kind of passive mode, not reacting or insisting on taking action, we can enjoy a relatively crisp, objective, and accurate glimpse at the current picture. These ‘bright spots’ in the midst of Merc retros are always a welcome departure, and should be appreciated for the wealth of info they can make available–all we must do is be completely receptive, and our ‘Power Position’ or the positives of negotiation will be apparent (Sun trine Ceres).

‘Couple, Kids and Confusion’ By Shafiahmedrizvi 2011 CC BY-SA 4.0

By the 10th we may have learned something that confuses, alters, or otherwise makes unclear that relationship or asset picture (Venus square Neptune), or that inspires us through the difficulty it presents. We know what’s healthy–it’s obvious (Sun nov Hygeia) and the mind is quick and clever, in spite of its current direction (Mercury trine Uranus), but there is one caution: unprocessed or unresolved wounds may exert their influence on our thinking. Just sayin’.

{{PD}}

The weekend’s word image is this: after a conversation with someone, you have a dream that provides information you must pass on to the individual. For me this took the form of a discussion with someone about their frazzled, tired state and their back pain. In the dream I saw this person gazing into one of those convex mirrors you see on the street that allow drivers to see traffic coming from a blind corner; in this case, the mirror was on a drive-thru lane of a Starbucks! Then I was shown a chair that had a hard, upper back piece that would tilt a bit when leaned against, and my thought in the dream was, ‘Those are never comfortable–they don’t fit the back correctly, so you can’t even use them as a backrest.’ My interpretation? She’s ‘driving’ herself too hard, taking in too much caffeine in order to keep the energy level high, and the back pain is being exacerbated by either a literal ‘bad chair’, or is symbolic, springing from a sense that she lacks adequate support.

Have a great weekend! Read, donate, comment, or leave me a review at Goodreads–all are appreciated!

Your Weekend 2-3 December 2017 Lunar Domination

Albert Aublet – ‘Selene’ 1879 {{PD}}

The Full Moon in Gemini falls on the 3rd at 7:47 AM Pacific time at 11 Gemini 40, and in spite of a host of other aspects forming this weekend, dominates the atmosphere, at least in part because of its to-the-degree connections to Neptune (to which the axis forms a T-square) and Jupiter (quincunx the FM event). Too, Mars and Juno-Hygeia form the base for a Fist of God with the Full Moon as apex, and Uranus-Pallas, close together in Aries, form a semi-square to the FM, and it all happens roughly 9 hours after Mercury’s apparent motion shifts to retrograde–and that’s all, but damn, isn’t that enough?

These contacts promise that what culminates, ends, presents itself completely formed, or resolves will challenge us on a creative, spiritual, or idealistic level, presenting us with a scenario that forces us to act in a way that defines one or more Neptunian areas (including those areas ruled by Neptune in the personal natal chart)–and that shows us the way our beliefs need to be modified, and/ or the facts accommodated (Jupiter quincunx).

The Fist smacks us with an issue centered in conflict between a healthy sense of personal authority and aggression or egocentricity, our own or others’. Our natural reaction is to fight an incursion on our autonomy (or what we believe is our autonomy, if we are in full-ego mode), in this instance with the resolution offered by the circumstances of the Full Moon, and as with the rest of the activity, the focus is likely to be mental (Gemini), as we process the meaning and implications of what’s occurring. However, the status of Mercury, newly retro, suggests that even if we seem to see the whole picture, understand the facts or issues, or know the lay of the land, we can’t possibly–it’s almost guaranteed we’ll be making choices blind (relatively speaking), and under stress (Merc retro at 29 degrees).

The semi-square may be the most prominent bit initially, as it suggests sudden actions taken at an individual level that are either very wise, or very stupid, precipitating all the other Full Moon effects (though Mars opposed Uranus on the 1st, then opposed Pallas, contra-parallel Uranus, and and quincunx Sedna on the 2nd, followed by a sesquiquadrate to Neptune on the 3rd, scream of a possible series of bad choices, or possibly out-of-control or hyper-spontaneous or deluded ones, that lead to that precipitating move).

Anita Rée ‘Head of a Girl’ {{PD}}

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘A Negro Girl Fights For Her Independence In The City’. Set aside the antiquated language, and we have the image of someone who, in Western society (‘The City’), might have to fight much harder than others do to gain her autonomy, or even to get adequate consideration. Again, we have the ‘language’ of the Fist, and the need to guard our own healthy sense of personal authority. This suggests that the Full Moon result will create the need for struggle, and possibly also the personal need to declare one’s independence from something or someone that has exerted undue influence, held an advantage, that has ‘kept one down’ for far too long, or that is now trying to impose their Will (echoing the Fist and the Mars activity leading up to the Full Moon).

Nandina and Rooster from the Colorful Realm of Living Beings by Itō Jakuchū, c. 1761-65 (Edo Period) {{PD}}

The Sabian for the Sun, which originates the light that makes the appearance of the Full Moon from our stance on Earth possible, is, ‘A Flag Turns Into An Eagle; The Eagle Into A Chanticleer Saluting The Dawn’. To my mind this suggests that at least some of the Full Moon circumstance/ what draws our attention at this time is related to the political situation in the US. We see a sense of country morphing into a rather aggressive symbol, that then morphs into a crowing rooster–a step down for the eagle! The eagle maintains a certain dignity–seeking prey is part of what it does, so no one should be surprised that it indulges in predatory behavior perfectly reflective of its nature. A rooster, however, makes a lot of noise, crowing about something (‘The Dawn’) that will occur whether he announces it or not–so in a way, almost as if he’s taking credit for it. Sound familiar? If you live somewhere else, your conclusions may vary 🙂

Mercury retrogrades very late in the evening Pacific time of the 2nd, at 29 tense degrees of Sagittarius, possibly causing us to question what we know, or to explode over what we find out! What we need to be aware of is that, whatever happens, it’s something we need to know. Once Mercury picks up retro speed it will run right into Saturn–and that hints that what we learn with the retrograde will help us deal with some obstacle, or some facet of the reality picture–so we’ll end up being glad, even though initially the revelation may be stressful.

The only other thing I’d like to mention is the Jupiter trine to Neptune on the 2nd. This could be an island of ideal opportunity, creative expansion or outreach, or expanded expression or sense of spirituality, that comes forward in the midst of mild mental chaos, or it could act to exaggerate delusions or misperceptions that will fuel those Martian choices, actions, and so results, that come with the Full Moon.

And here’s a post on Merc retrograde you might find worthy of review—

Have a wonderful weekend!

Is there wisdom in working toward stability and the known, in looking to make things as secure and reassuring as possible, or is it that what’s permanent, restrained, or contained is where true wisdom lies, with whatever prompts it may offer on what to do? Hard to tell, especially as thoughts, actions, and reasoning are all alienated from the instinctual and that vital knowledge that is found just below the surface; our wants are too strong a motivator to allow us to see and consider things dispassionately. What is working like a charm are healthy, healed relationships and positive financial situations–let them be your guide, and your inspiration, and don’t sweat the chicken-or-egg nature of reality at this time.

Diego Velazquez – ‘An Old Woman Cooking Eggs’ 1619 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a seemingly unending stream of dirty dishes. Do you like your work? Are there some chores in life that you see as unrewarding, even ‘beneath’ you? Do you expect others to take care of the less desirable facets of life for you? Do you see individuals as more or less important, depending on their work? Do you embrace whatever’s set before you to do, or do you ‘save’ your efforts for what you see as important or consider your Soul Purpose? There are no wrong answers here, only ones that may help you see your own attitude a little more clearly.

See my books here–and thank you!

‘Heroic Strokes of the Bow’ By Paul Klee {{PD}}

“I can’t believe you said that!” (or, I can’t believe I thought that) is the essence of it today. Messages are shocking, thinking/ communications are erratic, and moves are spontaneous, sudden, and information is unreliable, or perhaps more rightly classified as unpredictable. Brace for the unexpected; you can’t really anticipate much else with Mercury trine Uranus.

‘Kürbisse’ By Emilie von Büttner c1825 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is fresh fruit, preserved in an unusually peak state for an unusually long time. Is it a miracle, or is it just that conditions are optimum right now? Decide this before declaring something extraordinary, and then consider what made things so.

Your Weekend: New Moon in Scorpio November 2017 Earthly Instincts

This New Moon occurs at 3:42 AM PST of the 18th at 26 Scorpio 19, closely opposed Sedna (and that means Sedna is conjoined Earth); the NM is also in close semi-sextile to Saturn, trine Chiron, and quincunx Uranus. The New Moon initiates new attitudes, actions, perceptions via feeling (Scorpio is a Water sign), and in this case offers a dose of healing energy, as well. Our instincts and matters we ‘know but don’t know’ may seem alien at this time, but the reality is the New Moon beginning draws us into using those instincts, into real-world situations or obstacles that require we call forth that deep, instinctive knowledge, and by confronting us with the unexpected, the shocking, the surprising. What occurs now gives us the chance to use talents or skills we may have thought dormant or non-existent, and urges a willingness to modify efforts to accommodate the material situation and/ or our own inclination toward originality or uniqueness (with that latter, we may need to curb a too-erratic response nature, or may need to adhere to more practical measures than we might otherwise consider). The New Moon in Scorpio gives us a Truthful Beginning that can lead to further discovery, the unanticipated, and to healing, down the road.

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘A Military Band Marches Noisily On Through The City Streets’. Whatever begins here makes an entrance, and a loud one! What we have to remember is that, despite the ruckus, what marches before us isn’t necessarily that important. A parade is a public statement on what prevalent social elements want to emphasize, celebrate, or otherwise note as of concern; that makes a parade a bit like advertising, an attempt to persuade onlookers that this is what the current social order honors and promotes–but it only takes a moments consideration to realize that a parade is propaganda, and may not at all reflect real-life priorities or actual matters deemed sacred. Parades are voices of those who hold power–remember, parades come originally from military displays meant to impress–so look behind the surface statement, to where time, attention, and money actually goes, to inform those New Moon instincts and emotions that drive uncovering of what’s true, beyond all the spectacle and noise.

By Sunday the 19th we may be so fixated on the Mars-Pluto square and the automatic contentiousness it fosters that we may miss the benefits of mining a tactic from the past in order to realize goals and gain, and so shape the future. Thoughts and actions can be forward-looking and so fortuitous, if we can do two things: avoid demanding unilateral acknowledgment that you are in authority or hold power (that is, be not just modest but allow others to feel they have their own say or authority, too), and be willing to recognize what you’ve been ignoring, denying, or enraged over–and then let it go, even as you allow it to give perspective to actions and choices.

Today’s word image is a milkmaid carrying a pail of milk. This brings to mind the saying, ‘You are what you do’, which points out that in a material world, our actions, not our thoughts, define us.

As of Monday the 20th, it’s easy to see how we can channel the past into the present productively; this allows us to make the most of situations that might not otherwise have paid off, and shows us the hidden benefits in any obstacles we might encounter. Just be aware that it may be necessary to modify efforts and attention, as well as to see identity as flexible, so that results are truly wise or practical–if we don’t, we may miss the mark.

Today’s word image is: you mention something you’re missing, and immediately find an abandoned one right in front of you. That’s very vague, so I’ll outline the instance that inspired it: I’d forgotten my Remembrance Day poppy at home, and upon mentioning it, my husband said, “Well here’s one”, and reached down and picked up a pristine one from its spot in a snow bank. I wore it until it fell off the next night in a restaurant, where I assume it was found by someone else who needed it. Just a vivid episode of a responsive Universe, so know it responds, and know that, one way or another, you are being provided with answers/ what you need.

Have a great weekend!

And I don’t mean flaky crust. ‘Still Life with Peacock Pie’ 1627 By Pieter Claesz {{PD}}

Everything, and everyone, seems erratic, unpredictable, flaky. Consider that the energy sent toward you and displayed before you is a reflection of two things: your own frustrated ambitions and desires, and those matters you’ve ignored or denied. Now that you get a little perspective on them, you can see them for what they are. How does that change your view of what you want, and what you should give attention to?

Today’s word image is a cleansing mask meant to remove toxins from the skin. What rituals do you follow, looking to purify your life? Are these genuinely successful, with undeniable results, or is the effect largely in your perceptions, making it personally useful but objectively useless?

I’m unavailable today, but will answer all queries, correspondence, comments, and fill all orders once I’m again at the computer, evening of the 12th. Thanks!
