‘Did You Speak To Me?’ By William Merritt Chase 1897 {{PD}}

Creative flourishes come easily today, but we can dig deeper using instincts and our inherent abilities and change the reality picture, either to make it beautiful or to make it pay. That’s the key: reach for the Venusian element, know that you have the creative juice to make it happen real-world, and the day delivers much more than it ever could’ve if you’d drifted along, enjoying the ‘nice’.

(Saturn sxt Neptune, Mars opp Zeus, Venus parallel SN/ contra-parallel NN, apex to a Finger of God base of Sedna-Juno and NN)

By Johann Rudolf Schellenberg CC BY 4.0

Today’s word image is an invasion. Is it bugs in your house or garden, uninvited guests, in-laws with their noses in your business, an imposition at work, some area of your life that suddenly isn’t under your control? The important thing to know here is that 1) this isn’t your fault–you did nothing to ‘earn’ this, and 2) don’t wait for rescue–you’re the only one who can do anything about it.

30 January 2019 The Power You Hold

By Maxim Vorobiev 1841 {{PD}}

How much are you aware of the power you actually hold in the world? Do you spend much time telling yourself you’re powerless in some realm? Do you feel powerless, and spend your time struggling against that? Are you defining power in a way that makes sense, or excuses? I’m asking because today instincts meld seamlessly with the power available to us, and the only way to deploy it is to know your true status, and precisely how much power you are in command of. The usual guidelines just won’t serve: being wise or practical holds little weight, putting ambitions and desires to the side is the only way to choose or act effectively, and skills at our disposal are those that are uniquely our own. It’s as if the day requires we muster those gifts (the ones we’re most excellent with, that only we can do, just so) and use them–and the only way to do that is to know who we are, and what status we hold. (Juno conj Sedna, Pallas contra-parallel Juno, Chiron parallel Juno, Mars contra-parallel Zeus)

Today’s word image is the last Archetype you fantasized being or related strongly to. That’s a window into at least one of your gifts or areas of power.

29 January 2019 Reverse Engineer It

‘A Reading by Emile Verhaeren’ By Theo van Rysselberghe 1901 {{PD}}

What we don’t see, what is intangible, our values and standards, those things we’ve tried to ignore or deny, what’s wise, what’s practical, conspires to deliver the results that occur with the Superior Conjunction. A ‘thought-seed’, planted at the Inferior Conjunction of Mercury and the Sun during Merc’s retrograde period has grown to maturity–but is that really what we wanted? Today wisdom may masquerade as hurt, and vice versa, it may be too easy to rebel against the things we honor most, actions and choices carry the marks of all that we are avoiding, and the totality of it conspires in the presentation of the final thought-thing first planted in late November 2018. We get the outcome of something relatively major, this time around. Learn from it; don’t be afraid to reverse engineer the results in order to see what was done to create them in the first place.

(Chiron contra-parallel Pallas, Uranus sxt Vesta, Mars sxt Black Moon Lilith, Mercury semi-sq Venus, Superior Conjunction of Mercury and the Sun)

‘Falling Star’ By Witold Pruszkowski 1884 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is bright lights streaking across your vision like falling stars, that may signal vision issues. Is there something beautiful, a little dazzling, that’s happening right in front of you–and have you considered that it might not be benign at all, but a warning that attention is needed?

‘Mutter mit Kind und einer Puppe’ (Mother with child and doll) By Hans Looschen {{PD}}

What counts is in front of us, and that may be the most difficult thing to fathom–knowing that we don’t need to look far and wide, search the horizon, or peek under any rocks in order to locate what actually needs our attention. If we’re willing to claim our rights (that is, take full responsibility for ourselves and those things under our purview), we can make some exceptional things happen; if we deny our instincts or those things we ‘know but don’t know’, we lose footing in wise or practical realms, and so suffer. Our own imaginations catch our attention today–it’s your job to hook that visualization to reality, to the circumstances directly before you, and not be led by distractions or in an invalid direction.

(Pallas qnx Sedna, Saturn nov Vesta, Mercury trine Juno, Sun semi-sq Neptune)

Street & Smith {{PD}}

Today’s word image is ‘A Detective Story’. In what way are you living a detective story? What are you seeking, following clues toward, what puzzle are you trying to solve? It’s something central to your Being, vital to understanding yourself or some situation you are presently in, or it’s emblematic of this. I think this is a reminder, we are the authors of any story we participate in–and as the author, we already know the solution.

18 January 2019 Potholes and A**holes

‘Teasing the daruma’ By Helen Hyde 1905 {{PD}}

What is it today, the tension pre-eclipse, or is the world full of traps, potholes, and a**holes? I’m only being mildly facetious, here, as it almost feels as if those who are empowered in any context are reaching out to stop us, without any real reason to. And then there are those who flat out tell us our ambition is impossible to achieve (but to be fair, we’ve got to measure whether we’re having an emotional reaction to someone speaking sense, or is it as malicious as it seems?) We want to act, especially in regard to relationships or finances, but find that it alters our Path forward in some way we don’t like, and we feel the power of our thoughts and plans right now–and if we’re smart, we are aware of their destructive potentials, as well. We may need to face it, no matter how others are behaving (or appearing to behave) we are looking for hurt, and any inclination to troll for wounds also means we’re looking for reasons to avoid doing what we know we should do. There’s no need to make sharp, precipitous, or daring moves–progress seated in more modest efforts, ones that feel manageable, are more than satisfactory, for today.

(Vesta sq Juno, Venus trine Mars and sesq NN, Mercury sq Zeus and conj Pluto, Sun sxt Chiron and sq Uranus)

I’ve been going through a personally stressful time, and during those times it’s hard for me to discern those Daily Images that I would normally see as a message both to myself and to everyone else. Under stress, I’m busy fielding all kinds of imagery, and can’t be sure what should be shared, but I think I’m finally back on track (or at least have something for today): the country of Spain. We all probably have certain ideas about it, images of it, no matter how vague or how concrete (from personal experience there, perhaps)–so the image is, whatever Spain evokes in you.

30 December 2018 The Hand We’re Dealt

‘The Card Players’ By James McNeill Whistler CC BY-SA 4.0

The real focus today isn’t on how much power we exercise, but what kind of influence and effect we wield. It may be a matter of struggling with authorities in our sphere, trying to claim as much say as we can, or it could be that we struggle against someone’s inappropriate effort to exert influence over us, or that we struggle with ourselves over how much power our inherent authority conveys. No matter what, the one thing that opens the way to our most potent expression is through ‘natural’ roles, ones that mesh with our current standing, place in the world, abilities, skills, and that we are eminently suited for. That might be disappointing to some, but the reality is that unless we exploit effectively what we currently hold, we won’t get ‘more’–and to discard the real-world position in the hope that starting over deals us a better hand fails to recognize that we took the hand we were dealt and we’ve played it–and where we are right now is the result–meaning that the same central player, ourselves, won’t be any different than before, and that means that what we could make of things from a new start would likely develop along oh-so-familiar lines. That is, we have created what is in our lives right now; no matter what you think, a new starting point would have made very little difference, in the end. And that means we aren’t victims of others or circumstances nearly so much as we are conspirators with (or perhaps ‘experiencers of’) our own natures.

(Perfecting today: Juno opposed and Pluto sextile Ceres)

‘Street Musicians’ By William H. Johnson c1939 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is: overhearing, and so being ‘forced’ to listen to, other people’s music choices. Do you go with this, or are you annoyed? Does your reaction differ according to the environment, your expectations, or what they are choosing to play? Consider that your reaction to this scenario may say something about how you respond to others’ ‘songs’, that thing we create and ‘sing’ by living. Do you judge, criticize, praise? Do you find it intrusive when others’ songs waft into your space? Do you deliberately not ‘sing out loud’, believing you’re more considerate, or out of fear? Is there something about your attitude concerning this you’d like to change?

You can feel it building, brimming, and ready to break, can’t you? Immense, overflowing, perhaps a burning knowledge, or thoughts on the social order or on our own or others’ belief systems, permeate everything with a larger than life quality. It seems we can think transformation into being–and we can, with enough investment, enough creative and imaginative ‘juice’, enough Love–with a subsequent spotlight falling on the real-world results. It almost feels magic, this ability to Love, to throw our lot in with, to dedicate our energy–and that is the way it works, the Universe responding to our energy, a wavelength that is both assertive and receptive, listening and making a statement, open to what’s out there and closed in embrace of what we hold dear. Enjoy it, and feel the power of the mind as it stretches, reaches out, and contacts the new, the unfamiliar, the radical and revered.

Today’s word image is a question unanswered, despite a jumble of words poured out. What question are you putting out into the Universe that appears to be unanswered? I say ‘appears’ as the idea here is that no question goes unanswered; we may miss the answer, not see, accept, or understand the vernacular in which it’s delivered, may reject the answer, or may try to insist the answer take a particular form, and if it doesn’t, we’ll pretend no answer has been given. The reality is that as soon as we ask a question, we have the answer–it may take a little while to dawn on us, it may take a nudge from the physical world, or it may take a remark from your own personal angel (anybody who plays a part in your drama), but you have received an answer. Now you must be brave enough to see and accept it

19 December 2018 The Power of Self-Determination

‘Niños en la Playa, Valencia’ (Children at the Beach, Valencia), By Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida 1914 {{PD}}

We may start out rejecting authority or our own agency, but in any case it spurs us toward a kind of empowerment centered in Self-responsibility–even in wanting to avoid making our own choices, we end up wanting to! Or maybe we have to. We can’t resist the power of Self-determination–nor should we. For each of us, the vital factor on which so much hinges right now is either the health situation or the skill situation–and we must face where we actually stand with each, in order to see where we truly are empowered, where we can go with all this, and where we might’ve been fooling ourselves, just a tad.

There’s also the matter of a Fist of God formed by the square between Hygeia-Chiron and Earth, with all sesquiquadrate Venus. This emphasizes the material factors, the physical needs as well as the atmosphere/ environment, and implies that handling these in a realistic manner (that is, by addressing what we have the power to address) we create reward, a pay-off, or better a relationship–somehow we benefit, even though the situation the benefit arises from may be difficult or may be one of outright conflict.

Bonus: if you have natal placements at 26-29 of Virgo, this fills in a Grand Cross with the Sun-Earth axis and Hygeia-Chiron, suggesting a tense situation where health takes a big role in life direction and the plan for material accomplishment or manifestation of the Soul’s purpose, with the influence defined by the function (that is, the verb version) of the natal placement (for instance, Mars would be about doing or choosing or possibly aggressing, while Venus might be about valuing or receiving). Health (or possibly skill levels, that ‘gift’ that is unique to you, Chiron’s other broad meaning) temporarily has an out-sized impact on where you’re headed, and this is weighed through the natal planet or point and its action possibilities (the verbs associated with the energy). If the fill-in planet happens to be Pluto (which it may be for many), this could be more about the tension caused when one knows something must be eliminated or transformed, for one’s own good and/ or so that the life direction can continue as desired–so could bring a kind of crisis that may, initially, seem unsolvable.

Also By Sorolla y Bastida 1915 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is picturing yourself walking out into a body of cold salt water on a brightly sunny summer day. What does this say to you? Are you frolicking at the beach, taking a dip to cool off from extreme temps, staying in the shallows because you can’t swim or don’t really want to be wet, planning to swim to an opposite shore, are you plunging in to rescue someone or something (a dog in a rip current, a washed-away purse), are you walking out with rocks in your pockets, Virginia Woolf-style? If the water symbolizes your spiritual essence, what does the interaction you imagined say about your current relationship to spirit and spiritual practice (this latter of which, I argue, is simply another phrase for life)?

Instincts lead us–or is it drive us?–into the future–or rather, into creating our future by our current choices. That’s always so, but there are times like today when the pulse of energy we generate seems to travel a straight line to what we’ll eventually be. The direction we go right now will express (and consequently shape) who we are. It’s a chicken-and-egg thing, whether the impulse generates the thought or the thought the forward-moving energy, but in the end it doesn’t matter–the effect is the same. And, all this is done only half deliberately, with a semi-conscious notion that aligns choices and efforts with both goals and identity–and that means that whatever happens, your responses and those events you generate will be strongly attuned to who you are and what you intend. As always, if you’re not happy with what you see, you know where to look for change.

(Merc semi-sq Zeus, Sedna sxt NN forming base to a Finger of God with apex Sun)

‘The Tower of Babel’ By Pieter Bruegel the Elder 1563 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is an idea I’ll title, ‘Controlling One’s Image’. Are you the kind of person who believes they can (and should) try to tailor people’s impression of you to the image you desire? If so, do you honestly think that’s really possible? This simply calls for each of us to take a moment and reflect: Are we able to let others think what they think, without trying to shape perceptions or change their minds (manipulate them), while being true to ourselves (being who we are, without artifice or pretension)? Because if not, we’re failing twice: once when we don’t recognize boundaries, and once when we aren’t being true to ourselves.

John Bauer

What we’re empowered to do, what we choose to do, is the focus today. Sometimes one and the same, sometimes wide apart, when our options are limited, or our Will is unsure, or when we just can’t muster the energy to make a choice–that latter being dangerous, giving ourselves up to the currents, not out of faith, but in abdication, in decreed helplessness–and the Universe has no respect for that. For the present we need to claim whatever power, in whatever form we own it, and we need to choose, need to act–because what results is greater than the sum of the parts, bringing fulfillment of an ambition or desire–and this is so even if that’s not what we’re aiming for! We have a healthy outlook, in terms of the future, so trust yourself, and don’t let others’ communications cause damage to you–and take care with your own words, as they are mightier, with a bigger impact, than you think.

Photo By Soumyoo – Own work CC BY-SA 4.0 The Bird of Paradise Flower .jpg Created: 28 June 2016

Today’s word image is the Bird-of-Paradise–the flower, not the actual bird. As a kid I was confused about this plant–I thought it was somewhere between a plant and an animal (I thought the same of sunflowers–have I told you this story before?) These things seemed mysterious, kind of magical–and sentient, to my child-mind, so that when I was piled into a car with lots of others on the way to the cemetery, I silently prayed that I would not have to sit near the bird-of-paradise someone was bringing to put on a grave–and then I was told to hold it in my lap. I remember sitting very still with the tall, pointy flower balanced on my knees, really nervous that it might decide to take my eye out with its beak-like petals. I remember studying it, looking for an eye or some movement that might clue me in to what it was thinking, what it might do. It was a miserable ride for me; I arrived at the cemetery in a sweat! So what does this shaggy-dog story have to convey as an image? Probably that there is something in our lives right now that we fundamentally misunderstand–to the point that we’re frightened or worried, when we really don’t need to be.
