Mars, still on his backward course, offers us a drink from the cauldron; do we accept? From his place in Scorpio, the Warrior could be offering us a potion that makes us choose and act from emotion, and so probably not respond in our own best interests; he could also proffer a potion that urges us to dig deep (and whether that’s beneficial or not is a personal matter), and he almost certainly puts us in a position of acting and choosing in contradiction to our own instincts. We act out of our ‘blind spot’, and so in a fundamental way don’t know what we’re doing.

However, we can access enormous strength and authority (the kind that allows us to confidently command our own lives) with two positive steps: by reconciling ourselves to the social sphere in which we move (this involves accepting differences as they exist, and so refusing to condemn the social order as a whole, rather than debilitating ourselves by railing against them), and by paying careful attention to those areas where we actually hold significant power, and thereby seeing where we can successfully make the most change, or do the most good. It’s in accepting our personal capacity to affect things while still respecting the social order that we find our most effective and impactful means of empowerment (Perfecting today: Mars opp Sedna, Jupiter semi-sq Juno, Sun sxt Ceres)

Today’s word image is a glimpse of the ocean. What does that mean to you? A tantalizing, fleeting vision of something desirable, or are you frightened of the sea? Does it mean that your attention is elsewhere, on some other part of the environment? That you’re not able to experience it close up, but are stuck in the ‘cheap seats’? That you are traveling too quickly to enjoy what surrounds you? Bodies of water typically symbolize our emotions; to ‘glimpse the ocean’ might be to be conscious of just a portion of very deep and restless feelings. Consider your response to today’s phrase, and then what it’s saying symbolically about your emotional state, and a potential sea of unacknowledged feeling.

‘Bartholomew’s Vision’ 1889 Mikhail Nesterow {{PD}}

We’ve got a ‘new’ Grand Cross, as Vesta moves in to take the place of the now departed pair of Sun and Venus. This brings in values, our highest values, in fact, and those matters and individuals to whom we dedicate our life energy; these matters speak to the stress generated by the T-square of Neptune, Jupiter, and Saturn. As we know, such major energies in play can have very different manifestations within individual lives, but we know that matters of the Houses ruled by these bodies may factor in or present the stage upon which our values are tested. Or, we may see a more general expression, as application of creativity or avoidance (through delusion) in the real world meets assessment by the social sphere; that is, we may see how much support our social milieu offers to the individual expression of creativity in material surroundings and concrete terms. Our possession or grasp of ‘the facts’ may be challenged by the reality picture, or we may discover the obstacles on our path to getting the word out, or to achieving educational or expansion goals.

The Vision and its translation into the three-dimensional world is vetted. We are able to see clearly how our energy dedication has affected our ability to bring dreams to reality. We’re offered a clear look at what we have wrought, and how well (or not) that serves our spiritual Vision, our creative need (because just being alive is energy that naturally generates creative expression of one kind or another), and those matters we declare sacred, and wish to honor through our efforts in this imperfect world. We can shape our forward momentum in any way we choose; recognizing our power and respecting our instincts is vital, though taking definitive action on what we realize might better wait until the 12th or after, when we are not so inclined to act contrary to our own better instincts or motives (that is, we may resent what we discover on first hearing/ realizing; a few days grace period will help us accept what we find) (Perfecting today: Pluto trine NN, Venus sxt Ceres, Mercury conjoins Sedna and opp Mars)

Here, everyone is a mouse. 日本語: 鼠草子絵巻 ‘The Mouse Story’ Muromachi to Momoyama period (16th century)

Today’s word image is a mouse. If we’re thinking literally, the symbol may hint at some way we’re ‘infested’ with something pesky or damaging, something that nibbles away at our resources or our confidence. Or are we speaking of too much time on the computer (with the mouse)? Or are we in some way keeping ourselves too modest or plain (quiet as a mouse, country mouse) in comparison to what the situation calls for? Underplaying our hand can ring false to those who can handle (and who welcome) our energy; better to be true to ourselves than to shrink-to-fit a bland or unrewarding situation.

Matters ignored or denied reach out from the past and seem to block the way forward–and yet, we know what to do to heal the situation; at least, we will if we stop and think for a minute–so it becomes a matter of choice: will we keep problems intact, embracing them as part of our identity, continuing to look away, or will we look at the situation and plan or decide what to do? Healing is a matter of the mind; think it, and we can repair it–issues (or our feelings about them) that don’t heal through the mentality suggest our thinking about them is wrong in the first place. Smart money is on facing those hangovers from the past, doing what needs to be done, and then, with the way clear, making plans for what we want to do in future (SN sesq Black Moon Lilith/ NN semi-sq BML, Merc sxt Chiron)

Today’s word image is a sandwich board (a kind of folded sign) sitting on the sidewalk, with the word ‘Pluto’ handwritten on it, and an arrow pointing straight up. I saw this, and it made me smile. Were they trying to point at the place in the sky where Pluto might be found? Probably not. Were they confused about Pluto and Hades, his ferocious Doppelgänger, thinking they reign over Heaven, rather than Hell? Of course not–who could make that mistake? Although, when I thought about it, I concluded that the arrow pointing up may have spoken of one of two things: either we should be on the lookout for Plutonian figures making themselves known (coming up from the Underworld), or we should consider that, if we accept change as not just inevitable, but as desirable, Pluto may indeed signify its own kind of Heaven, offering constant transformation and renewal, and so perpetually generating and supporting Hope.

7 June 2016 In Partnership We Find Strength

Empowerment becomes a matter of cooperation; it’s in finding partners, creating diplomatic avenues and ties, and forming alliances that we as individuals gain dominion over our own lives–at least, that’s the way it plays out today. It’s not easy, though, as we must balance relationship needs, our own needs and aims, and both the past and the direction we’re headed; we’re swimming in a stream and must be cognizant of the bank we walked on and the current that’s carrying us forward, as well as remain aware of those who are floating along, caught in the same current, with us, all with an eye of where we’re hoping downstream to clamber out of the water. This likely means psychic overload, as we try to maintain at least four points of focus simultaneously–and if we find ourselves trying to keep all factors afloat at once, that’s when a figurative drowning becomes the likely end result.

How to avoid disaster? Use cooperative relationships to weigh and measure options, and remember that partnering with others doesn’t mean giving up your autonomy or control, it simply means finding ways to do things that are beneficial for everyone concerned. It also means being willing to shoulder our own responsibilities; if we don’t or aren’t, we may find it hard to locate anyone willing to partner with us. Too, we are able to see precisely who we have become, and what that’s worth, as a result of our past experiences, and this offers us the chance to see exactly where we are going, if we change nothing in our projected Path. Today we’re offered a rare moment of perfect clarity that shows us the outcome generated by who we are right now–and if we’re not happy with this, we will be able to pinpoint exactly what must change, in order to take in hand, and alter, our future (Juno enters Libra, Sun-Venus form T-square with the Nodes)

Today’s word image is a cask of salted cod. This preservation method was so good that in centuries past barrels of fish were treated like currency. Re-visiting the existence of this ancient commodity may prompt us to ask ourselves: What asset have we been so busy preserving, conserving, saving, trading on, or using as collateral, that we have forgotten it originally had another use entirely–in the case of the cod, as food. Look in your own life for something saved, even hoarded, something with value to you, that you may have held onto for so long that you’ve failed to honor it by putting it to good use.

First, I have a word image for the 5th: two bees push each other inside a flower, eager for nectar and pollen. This may be internal–two parts of the Self, especially the psyche, in conflict over which gets your active attention, which is ‘fed’–or external–you compete with someone else over a finite supply of energy or sustenance. In either case, we must recognize that, though the Universal ‘supply’ is limitless, our personal one may have its boundaries, and this is especially so if we’re talking about personal supplies of energy or resources. Don’t be distracted by struggle–instead simply make a choice, and don’t impose on yourself a judgment (that is, guilt) for choosing as you do–it’s your right to spend your energy as you want.

Venus and the Sun finally perfect their meeting in Gemini today, the 6th, marking their Superior (that is, direct motion of Venus) Conjunction, a once-every-18-months event. This can be seen as the inception point of a new cycle of Venus in relation to the energy that drives all life–and so marks a gentle shift, in this case, in the way we think about (Gemini) Venusian subjects like relationships, Love, diplomacy, and Money. In 9 months Venus will once again retrograde (in Aries), and what we might notice at that point is the way our thinking has changed in the life areas signified by the House in the natal chart where the turnaround occurs–but I digress (or is that pro-gress?)

What we see and realize today is heightened through the excessive harmony the Sun and Venus enjoy; they double up, and we find our consciousness is in perfect agreement with our values and our thinking, so that we may feel extremely confident, emboldened to make adjustments to the power matrix or to institute change, to pursue ambitions and desires, and to deal with, probably obliquely, matters too long ignored or denied (and though it likely won’t be pleasant, dealing with these matters will be more than worthwhile) (Venus conjoins and is parallel the Sun, and both are quincunx Pluto, trine Zeus, and sesquiquadrate Black Moon Lilith)

In case you missed it, here’s the outlook for the New Moon of the 4th and remember, the Grand Cross (see previous posts) is still in effect all day today, the 6th.

From the B. O. T. A. Tarot

From the B. O. T. A. Tarot

Word image for the 6th is a black tower standing in a grassy field. This brings to mind the Tower card of the Tarot, a highly Plutonian image associated with catastrophic change outside the reach of the individual. What it may suggest is that, in the midst of the confidence and energy we are likely to enjoy today, we may be wise to remember we’re not in control of the Universe, but only ourselves, and that means things unforeseen can still occur; remaining aware of this possibility may only be wise.

Étienne Tournes -‘ La Toilette’ 1874 {{PD}}

What goes on Saturday the 4th is concentrated on the New Moon and the beginnings it offers, with only mild influences from other contacts–those other contacts first: Juno is contra-parallel Ceres, suggesting power struggles over who holds authority, and possibly some Willful demonstrations of trying to move the immovable; and Uranus semi-squares Vesta, suggesting it may be tough for those on a rebellious or independent streak to honor what they truly care about (read: some may transgress, in the name of ‘being myself’). So we enter the weekend with lots of struggle, much of it internal and aimed at exercising our Will. Then comes the New Moon.

Conjoining of Moon and Sun in Gemini perfects just a hair (that’s a technical term!) before 8 PM PDT of the 4th at 14 Gemini 53, and happens to have Venus conjoined by degree, but still not yet perfecting her meeting with the Sun. This triplicity is trine Zeus, loosely sesquiquadrate Juno and Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio, in wide quincunx to Pluto, and square Jupiter and Neptune and opposed Saturn-Earth, these latter four bodies constituting that Grand Cross we’ve been so caught up in. All this suggests that the new beginnings of this New Moon are intricately connected to the experience of the Grand Cross, specifically concerning issues of ambition and desire as they concern ‘the Other’ (Zeus in Libra), of digging for the reasons behind personal empowerment or its lack (Juno in Scorpio), of exploring (or being forced to explore) what we may have hidden, been in denial of, or been enraged by (BML in Scorpio), and what, if anything, we can do to alter circumstances (Pluto in Cap).

The New Moon event is thus simply the outgrowth of what has been gestating/ developing with the tension of the Grand Cross, particularly as this applies to the social role or attempts at expanding one’s world (Jupiter), the current reality (Saturn-Earth), and the creativity or clarity of connection to reality (Neptune), and all in terms of how this plays out in relationships and/ or finances. In short, we find out something about ourselves, about what we want, and who we want, and how effective (or not) we’ve been at getting it.

The best thing, though, is that we may be able to look at ourselves in the mirror and, no matter what the Grand Cross has revealed or delivered, see the beauty and worth reflected there (Venus), with new ideas occurring (Gemini) as to how that beauty and worth matters to our world. If we have an iffy relationship with Venus, we may be able to make peace with her now; an ability to Love Ourselves may emerge that adds incomparably to a positive interpretation of our own gifts and Beingness. Those who have a too-Venus oriented view already may find themselves judging the worth of everything around them, and so devaluing the Venusian intangibles that help balance our relationships and our view of the world; this is the signal to step back, and see that not all that holds worth can necessarily be seen.

‘Two Girls Playing’ Peter Ilsted c1900 {{PD}}

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘Two Dutch Children Talking To Each Other, Exchanging Their Knowledge’. The fact that these are children in the symbol right away tells us that the knowledge these two are sharing may be incomplete, lack nuance, or could be innocent of the darker side of matters, though an exchange of what’s known is exactly what Gemini energy is made for. That could imply that information acquisition is a vital part of the New Moon event, but should perhaps be accepted with some caution: despite honesty and good intentions, what we receive may not be as sophisticated or complete as we really need. And why Dutch children? At the time these symbols were received by Elsie Wheeler and Marc Edmund Jones, the Dutch had a reputation (at least in the U.S., where the symbol divining occurred) for a spare, clean, direct, and a little bit cheap approach to life (phrases like ‘going Dutch’ are still in use, though I’d like to point out that stereotypes are just that, with no relation to real people or cultures), and that suggests that within the symbol we may be dealing with bare-bones knowledge, things that are certainly true, but that don’t carry the shades of meaning needed to truly understand something–or, that something important has been held back, a ‘cheap’ attitude toward info sharing. The implication is that what is conveyed by the New Moon is somehow incomplete, and knowing that will prevent us acting before we’ve acquired the details and shading that will give our knowledge necessary depth.

By the 5th we see both the Sun and Venus completing a sesquiquadrate to Juno, and yet they have not yet perfected conjunction themselves. This lends the day an outward-looking attitude, one that may tangle with, even challenge, the empowerment or assertive rights of others, from a sense of Self-satisfaction, a ‘knowing’ of who we are, that feels a bit like superiority–but as long as we also recognize Mars novile Zeus, we can subdue the ego in clever ways that get us what we want, and still allow others to do the same–and this is probably the ‘Go!’ point that what we learned about yesterday (per the Sabian Symbol) and were waiting for.

First, a little review of the T/ Cross that has enlivened everything of late: “There’s an ongoing T-square with Sun-Venus opposed Earth-Saturn, all square Neptune, that by 3 June transforms into a Grand Cross with the inclusion of Jupiter. The tension here, though it starts benignly enough (with hope, charity, and an eye to freedom), becomes immense; we may go from the possibility of realizing our dreams to an optimism that is close to bursting–and yet the material situation repeatedly challenges us, as what the reality picture calls for is in some way contrary to our need for Love, Reward, or both. Through roughly the 6th we’ll see various parts of the equation come to prominence; one day it may be the way an important relationship (Venus) conflicts with what must be done (Saturn-Earth), the next day it may be that opportunity (Jupiter) can’t be grasped without loss of current income or flow (Venus), and the next may see the same or another opportunity that requires we give up our dream (Neptune, with the severity of all the demands and conditions put on us shown by the hard aspects and the involvement of Earth and Saturn–they say, material matters get a starring role in all this, especially the factors that make up our current real-world picture).

Imagination is pummeled by the facts; belief is put to the test, either through the challenge of manifesting creatively, or in facing delusions; the social circle stomps on dreams, even as, or perhaps as a condition of, the individual being loved; the need to support the identity creates expenses where payment may be intangible, extracted through a need to suppress beliefs, to pull back on material matters, or to ‘put up or shut up’ in the creative realm; relationships or financial factors may require we trim or abandon the current dream, or may ask us to change our beliefs to match reality; we may have to face that dreams are too big, unable to be manifested adequately in the material world, or we may put the brakes on material demands in order to pursue the creative and the Soul-expressive–and no matter what, we find that tension, discord, or stress, internally or externally applied, drives the movement of the Cross. It’s a period, represented by this configuration, that’s unusually potent in the way it can illuminate potentials and actualities, showing us both how to work with them, and how to bring about just what we desire, with major revelation expected with the New Moon. For a scant few, this may end up translating as an insistence on embracing the unreal, the illusion, as the belief system and/ or the identity break down in the face of the facts.”

At this point the Grand Cross has formed, with the aspect Venus opposed Saturn perfecting the 3rd. This brings our attention sharply to material reflections of our relationships and our finances; we are asked to assess our ideas of Love and Money (Venus in Gemini) against both our beliefs, and the actual facts of our material situation (Saturn in Sagittarius). This is not a judgment or a condemnation, but a moment in time that allows us to see precisely where we have gotten what we believed we would–and it requires us to see that we ourselves may have imposed the limits that our relationships and our finances have labored under, because they followed our beliefs, whether those beliefs were conscious or not. An opposition also signifies an extreme point; that is, the point at which things must begin moving back toward connection. We must recognize things as they are, and so choose in ways that bring our real-world manifestations within the relationship and/ or financial arenas into closer harmony with what we consciously treasure (Venus) and want (the Sun in the Cross).

The 3rd also sees perfection of Ceres quincunx the North Node. Though the Nodes are only points of extremity, rather than celestial bodies, they can be excellent harbingers of the direction things are currently headed–and that means, in this case, that both Mother Nature and those in charge/ authorities will be, subtly but surely, telegraphing their intentions for the future (or, in the case of Nature, the inevitable outcomes to present practices). If we will look, we will know exactly how matters in the hands of authorities and the natural world will develop.

‘Cherokee Roses on a Purple Cloth’ Martin Johnson Heade 1894 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a thick, deep purple, wool blanket. The color suggests something elevated, ‘special’, unusual (royal), but the item itself is entirely dependent on circumstances for its value, and so its meaning. If it’s hot, that’s the last thing you need, but if it’s cold, there’s nothing better–unless you’re allergic to wool! Something in your life may be presented as special and unique, and you may feel obligated to avail yourself of it, whether you need or want it, or not. Don’t succumb to the idea that just because something’s different it’s valuable–to make the best use of what’s offered to us, we have to know our needs, our wants, and the circumstances that surround us, before we’ll ever know if our ‘wool blanket’ is a gift or a burden.

The ongoing T/ Cross, in effect right now, is covered here. Today, the 2nd, the emphasis within the pattern shifts so that our focus is on a perfection of the square between Venus and Neptune, and perfection of the opposition between the Sun and Saturn; that brings our attention to two areas: the cost of our dreams (literally, figuratively, and in particular, the cost of both dreams and delusions to our relationships), and the difficulties we find living our Soul’s purpose within our current reality picture. Those sound like big, highfalutin’, exhausting topics, too cumbersome to wrestle successfully into something meaningful to the every day–but in that, we would be mistaken.

Both are easily found if we simply take each side of the equation, ‘holding’ one life area in each symbolic ‘hand’, and taking a look at them; we’ll automatically feel the weight of each, observe where we have neglected, overlooked, indulged, dismissed, or lavished loving attention on, and in so doing see the shape of our own viewpoint toward the subjects at hand. If we inspect both components, it will be impossible not to see and understand what the conflicts truly are, and from where they have arisen–and that gives us what will feel like an oh-so-obvious response to the tension we face.

One’s ability to both inspect these life areas and then address them is highly dependent on one’s tolerance for Truth, the ability to stomach all facets of the reality picture (not just the ones we find flattering or which we enliven ourselves through by railing against), and a willingness to do something about what we find, rather than just turn away. Clues to this are generally found in the state of natal Pluto, and current transiting Pluto’s contacts to the natal placements; those receiving contact, especially to the Sun, Moon, Mercury, placements in Earth, or chart ruler are likely to have the courage to see and deal with what must be changed, altered, accomplished, while those who are receiving contact from transiting Pluto to natal Neptune, ruler of the Moon, or Venus may find it overwhelming, with a need to turn away feeling like the only means of preserving existing relationships, sanity, or both.

Venus in Gemini brings in the phrase, how we think of: a particular relationship, all relationships, Love, Money, reward, praise beauty, Art (clues as to the meaning for you are found in transiting Venus’ current natal House), with Neptune in Pisces saying, state of the Art for dreams, visions, imagination, creativity, delusion, illusion, deceptions, expression of spirituality, ideals, relationship to the Collective or the Cosmos.

Sun in Gemini says, thinking about identity, with Saturn in Sagittarius pointing to the broad reality picture as it exists through facts, belief, current structures and rules, boundaries, suppression or oppression, obstacles, and manifestations of the passage of time–and how some or all of these figure in to how we see ourselves.

Today’s word image is a salad. No matter the time of year, a salad is really a celebration of the season, bringing together components offered by Nature only during, in most places, a narrow window of time. Enjoy something ‘of the season’ today, whether it’s an actual salad or something else available only at a certain time of year, wherever you are.

For the 1st the emphasis is on seeing the dream clearly, or observing accurately the condition of the creative life, or what we imagined the world to be–and we are able to articulate or think about this with unusual foresight concerning how it may play out into the future, and how in its current state it will affect our life direction. Thinking is spot on, as long as we are pondering matters from a sense of security; if we are feeling at all insecure, especially in material matters, we will inevitably skew ideas and conclusions in the direction of what’s comfortable, rather than what’s true (Merc in Taurus trine NN, Sun-Earth axis in T-square with Neptune)

Today’s word image is a fountain gently burbling in a garden. Close your eyes and see the fountain, hear the water splash, and feel the warm sunshine and the cool shade play on your skin. We are likely to be focused on the power situation and our own ability to influence or act freely, yet we’ll tell ourselves it’s quite the opposite: that we’re not doing what we’re doing for the sake of ambition fulfillment, but to create positive change, to shake up authorities, or to get rid of certain conditions around us–but we’ll definitely be lying to ourselves. To want power simply means we want dominion over our own lives; it’s natural, part of who we are. Here’s the thing: in denying we want to have power within our life situation, we set ourselves up to pretend power acquisition and exercise is the farthest thing from our minds, that it is in fact tainted in some way, a sign of material and psychic avarice, believing power is about a desire to control others. This creates a circumstance where we bull into a situation and then innocently ask, “Who me? Want power? I’m not interested in that at all!” And yet, the only way to be ourselves and to fully engage in life is to acknowledge that we must accept the responsibilities and burdens of being powerful–and just because that power doesn’t take a form we immediately recognize (because the person who decides what to do with their day is just as powerful in a psychic sense as a person who commands an army) doesn’t mean we don’t have it. Those who deny they have power, at this point, are slated to see it leak out and create circumstances that effectively remove the privilege of choice that is the main component of owning one’s power (Ceres opp Zeus, Pluto sq Ceres)
