Othea's Epistle (Queen's Manuscript) Artist Unknown {{PD}}

Othea’s Epistle (Queen’s Manuscript) Artist Unknown {{PD}}

Jupiter goes direct today, the 9th, just after 5 AM Pacific time, at 13 Virgo 15, with first contact (from other than the Moon) being Venus catching up to trine the behemoth before it can apply its influence by square to Saturn. So, the scenario over the next three or four days may be one of matters of the House where Jupiter transits being ‘done to’ by Venusian forces of Love or Money–that is, with ease (the trine) affecting the state of expansion and knowledge related to the natal House Jupiter is now moving through–and this creating a difficult circumstance, tension, or problem within the reality picture (Saturn). Just be ready–for successful use of these energies adopt a willingness to deal with real-world assets, circumstances, and obstacles–this will likely make the situation work out well, as the potential is there for betterment, either materially or of the current reality picture.

Venus sextiles Neptune, playing into the sudden availability of supporting belief, the urge and opportunity to expand, or the necessary knowledge (all Jupiterian) and giving us the inspiration and resources with which to make a dream pay, or align a relationship with our ideal. We can become distracted by fantasy, convincing ourselves it will profit us, or we can be creative in a way that makes Art, or fashions more loving relationships or more favorable financial circumstances.

Inferior Conjunction, with Sun and Merc parallel and both nov Ceres and trine NN, is as we all know, a seed point, with Ceres’ involvement signaling the full force of Nature is behind it–and coming so closely on the heels of the Taurus New Moon suggests that this is the ‘planting point’ for what was born there. Gestation is key now, so don’t expect the Jupiter direction or Venus-Neptune to necessarily be part of this; what starts today is likely ‘underground’, in some sense, or unseen, and so we may need to proceed with the confidence that the ‘right’ thing is already underway. This not knowing is alluded to nicely in the immortal words of the Mamas and Papas: “Monday, Monday, can’t trust that day/ Monday, Monday, sometimes it just turns out that way/ Oh Monday mornin’ you gave me no warnin’ of what was to be/ Oh Monday, Monday, how could you leave and not take me”. So expect, at least a little, to be surprised by what is presented, whether it’s revealed now or in the near future–and have a great day!

You might enjoy this just for the groovy fashions, though I am fond of the song:

Thank you for a wonderful (and nearly overwhelming!) response to the half-price offer. If you’re reading this and it’s still Sunday, the offer is on through midnight Pacific–see the previous post for details. I’ll probably run a similar offer again in the near future, in case you were interested but missed it, and am considering adding these low cost options as permanent services.

Saturday there is an aura of contrary feeling floating around just about everything; we want to alter what we’ve just concluded is wise, destroy what’s practical, flip the social order and point to its underbelly of injustices and hidden-in-plain-sight secrets, and we find dealing with either Love or Money somehow hurtful, as current events scrape at old scar tissue. The worst part may be that we are well aware we may not be acting in our own best interests. Help! How do we handle this? A couple of quotes from Buddha may help: “Ardently do today what must be done. Who knows? Tomorrow, death comes.” Here the instruction is hidden within an admonition to know oneself; how else but through Self-knowledge will we be able to discern “what must be done”? That removes the arbitrary, the impulsive, and the fickle, leaving us only with necessity and the imperative.

Something else must be considered, though: “The world is afflicted by death and decay. But the wise do not grieve, having realized the nature of the world.” A great part of dealing successfully with today’s influences is seated in knowing, recognizing, and actually embracing the impermanence of things. We are much less confused, angered, avaricious, or frightened when we keep this idea at the center of all perceptions. Thanks, Gautama Buddha! Your advice makes today much easier (Pluto semi-sq Pallas, Jupiter contra-parallel Black Moon Lilith, Venus semi-sq Chiron, Sun trine Pluto)

Today’s word image is a dragonfly. Watch for their presence signalling synchronicities, a moment of knowledge or hyper-alertness that offers insights to current realities, and a spark of inspiration, that just hovers in, and may speed away, if we don’t take notes.

Sunday the 8th the mind, ideas, mental perceptions are all in harmony with our life direction–but just what does that mean when Mercury is retrograde and our mental faculties are less than sharp? If we don’t think, but instead take a receptive approach, allowing thoughts and ideas to spring fully formed into the mind (brought there on currents of feeling or intuition), then we may make some remarkably good plans, have some productive ideas, and communicate with precision and true understanding, and all of it will shape the direction we’re headed. Just remember, the keyword there is, ‘may’ (Merc trine NN)

Today’s word image is a blue handbag. A purse (and we’re including man-purses, here!) is something within which we carry what we think we may need, out in the world. Sometimes in trying to be prepared for the unforseen we pack in far more than we need, and we can later regret the weight of it all. Too, we can have a tendency to put things in repeatedly while never bothering to look and see what’s already in there, to clean things out. The color blue implies we might keep sad things there, close to us, or that we carry things to soothe ourselves and others. Today consider what it is that you carry with you each time you go out in public; ask yourself why, assess whether what you find is truly needed, be willing to look in the dark depths and unused corners, and thereby lighten your load

Jean-François Millet - 'Spring' c1868 {{PD}}

Jean-François Millet – ‘Spring’ c1868 {{PD}}

Friday the 6th as the day begins on the West coast we are in approach to the conjunction of Sun and Moon in Taurus–and that sense of anticipation may overshadow a couple of other aspects perfecting at this time. The reality picture may be startling in its ability to empower us–who’d ah thunk, right?! Here the facts of what is (Saturn in Sagittarius) accommodate, support, and perhaps give focus to matters where we can get down to the Truth, and thereby gain influence, situational strength, and/ or the emotional fortitude to dig deep and address those aforementioned facts. We can get a clear view of our ambition and desire picture at this time, and can see just where it needs modification and revision–and we can also see the ambition agenda of others, and so gain better understanding of them, if we care to look (Saturn nov Juno, Sun qnx Zeus)

The New Moon occurs at 12:30 PM Pacific time at 16 Taurus 41. A New Moon is a seed moment, a beginning, and in Taurus this might be quite literal: a moment of conception related to the House of the natal chart in which it falls. In the 3rd, we may get an idea, in the 12th we may view something come to consciousness, in the 5th or 8th, we may get a baby–so check where it falls for you, for maximum safety! Of course, new beginnings can take in a lot of territory; and we must look at the conception in light of not just the initial placement of the event, but also according to what aspects it makes, and the implications of the Sabian for the degree where it falls. Taurus is naturally fecund, but the form that fertility takes is very specific to the individual and where this event falls in the natal chart.

On the larger scene, the New Moon forms apex to a Finger of God with base of Zeus-Saturn, suggesting that what begins at this point in time is the direct product of our ambitions and desires in the material world. Aha! Again with the suggestion that what we’ve aimed for, lusted for, even, in our physical reality is what drives the New Moon manifestation. Well, this is getting interesting.

New Moon in Taurus May 2016

If we stretch our standards a bit, we see the way the New Moon trines the midpoint of transiting Jupiter and the current North Node, signalling that the event somehow relates to our place on the social scene, and that it will affect life direction–so it takes on an added, serious tone–and if we treat this point (made up of Jupiter and the NN) as meaningful, we can use it to fill in an Earth Grand Trine with the NM and Pluto, suggesting that what the New Moon brings is a kind of destruction, transformation, or re-birth to our social role and the direction we’re headed in life that makes for a new beginning–but what does that beginning look like?

'Judith' Vincenzo Catena c1625 {{PD}}

‘Judith’ Vincenzo Catena c1625 {{PD}}

The Sabian for the event is, ‘A Symbolical Battle Between “Swords” And “Torches”‘ Strength, the ability to force, punitive energy, symbolic judgment, physical means of deciding, ‘killing’, or severing, wrestle with enlightened energies, ones that light the way or offer a wider view, that illuminate, that can perhaps burn, and so destroy with their insight–but that have the disadvantage of carrying no ‘doing’ energy, which is really what this contest is about: whether we will take an active role, or a hopeful, enlightened, but possibly materially ineffective one. In this instance, we may face the seductive energy of knowing, versus the call to do, with either choice applying to our identity. The question may become, ‘Do you want to be right, ‘in the know’, but not a player? Or do you want to shape things, make the choices, but not be privy to the bigger picture, the right or wrong, until after the fact?’ Not an easy question to answer, as each side has its advantages, and its problems.

'Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose', 1885-86 John Singer Sargent {{PD}}

‘Carnation, Lily, Lily, Rose’, 1885-86 John Singer Sargent {{PD}}

Today’s word image is Solar lanterns winking on across a garden as dusk falls. The Sun, at just the right distance from our planet, makes all life possible, and we can feel its presence even at night, in the breeze through the trees, the emerging nocturnal animals, the reflected light bounced to us by the Moon. At a New Moon we are without that nighttime light, and the world can seem a pretty dark and forbidding place, until the light of the Moon ‘returns’.

Maybe this image is about realizing that everything has its cycles, its seasons, and that if we’re in a ‘dark’ one now, all we really have to do is wait–and there’s the suggestion of unseen forces, such as the warmed earth that helps push that breeze, or the way the nocturnal animals hid from the sun’s glare all day, that suggest something vital and ‘warm’ moving behind the scenes, exerting an influence, moving things along.

5 May 2016 Why Are We Angry?

‘Still Life with Nautilus Cup’ Willem Claesz 1640 {{PD}}

It’s a fair question, though if you exclaim in protest, “I’m not angry!” I ask you to take an inventory: just because it’s called by some other name doesn’t mean it’s not there. Look beneath the crust of labels or dissembling for the meat of frustration, disappointment, denial, or wounded pride, all of which mellow (through sublimation) into anger, either at ourselves (showing as depression or Self-sabotage) or a convenient other, often something large and unaffected by our outrage, a target that can absorb all our indignation and sense of injustice, and that offers to launder our anger into righteousness, turning what we may have been taught is a verboten expression into a virtuous one (politics, corporate operations, the social order are all likely vehicles).

To process our emotions in a healthy way, one of the things we must do is discover and acknowledge the very personal origins of some of our most passionate beliefs and responses; that is, we must see that, for instance, our livid response to those who sully the environment, though genuine, carries some displaced energy from, say, our loss of a significant relationship. Our anger at or rejection of someone else may center on the fact that they observed us at a vulnerable moment–and the shame we felt has been translated. It’s not easy to do, but honesty demands we trace that feeling of anger or outrage back to its source–and we find this response is a conversion, one that had very personal origins.

Today is a perfect day for this kind of examination and sorting, especially considering we are in the Dark of the Moon, which makes it that much easier to turn within; if we don’t take the opportunity to look at some of our most genuinely vulnerable feelings and reactions, we could end up lashing out at others, making unwise choices in the area of ambitions and desires, potentially allowing our instincts to be tainted by a need to maintain what we care about (and that means accepting and not acknowledging something artificial or negative about it), and we may be prone to see the ugliness in the social order, or to demonize others, without realizing that is our judgment fueled by denying that potential within ourselves, rather than indisputable fact. Instead, be willing to look within–it’s the only place we can get any real answers, anyway (Pallas sesq Zeus, Vesta conjoined Sedna, Jupiter semi-sq Black Moon Lilith, Mars sesq Uranus, Venus qnx Mars)

From quite a few years ago, but this advice for a Mercury retrograde, and the job scene (in the comments) is still good today

4 May 2016 Anarchy v. Creativity

By Francesco del Cossa {{PD}}

That may be the choice for us: create something of our own, or burn what already exists to the ground; give the impulse boundaries and shape, or restrain nothing, contain nothing. It can be argued that in order to create one must remove something to make room, whether that’s in a physical or a psychic sense, but the reality is that there is always a place for something created, just as we can make a void without automatically filling it. This may also play out as the modern and new v. the ideal and imagined, or as the individual v. the Collective–but in any form, we will be required to choose a side–there’s no integrating the two forces at work here (Uranus contra-parallel Neptune)

Or is it a showdown between goddesses? We may merely witness this, or be right in the thick of things, a participant wielding all the power of Love or Money (Venus) or one who feels status and position are what count, a ‘who you know’ stance (Juno). It’s a stand-off over some very important factors, so don’t be tempted to put this disagreement down to temper or irrationality–these two ladies know something that seriously affects the future is being decided here. No matter what this argument dresses up as (and no matter what the tension seems to be about on the surface) this decides something about valuables and power–it may even establish authority over a domain or subject–so give it your sensitized and oh-so-gentle attention. Hint on how to handle it: the party fixed on status and position may become ruthless or vindictive if thwarted (and may wield the ‘Truth’ as a weapon), while the party wielding Love or Money may think a ‘consolation prize’ will do the trick–it will not (Venus opp Juno, Venus sesq NN)

Will this be easy? Probably not, though it may take nothing more than a willingness to adjust where we put our attention in order to see the situation clearly. What happens today will affect the reality picture, and could cause modification to familiar and already-in-place structures, rules, boundaries, or to whom we consider an authority (Sun qnx Saturn)

Before we get to the forecast for the 3rd, we need to note that there’s a Mystic Rectangle in force right now, and it may alleviate a lot of the drag and pull from all those retro planets. One pole is the Sun-Earth axis, the other the Jupiter-Neptune opposition, with complementary sextiles between Sun and Neptune (putting a light on the positive and creative, as well as making it easy to see the delusional! if we’re willing to look), and the other between Jupiter-Earth (expansion of the material–so get more of what benefits, comforts, supports, and open yourself to and teach others about what may be ‘new horizons’ for the individual, ‘get the word out’, embrace the whole darn planet!)

Oh, we are feeling glorious today–or is that our ego, eager to flex its muscles and show our power and reach? The whole world probably sorts out into two groups today, according to how one sees and exercises power: one group is married to it, as a justification for asserting the Self, using power to get things done, seeing it as a necessary component of movers and shakers everywhere, and seeing themselves as dynamic in service to exercising their authority (or at least, the authority they’d like to have). They get things done, and see no need for apologies for simply using what they’ve been given–and they have a point; there’s no shame in doing and doing well. The other group glories in the energy and power that come from belief, from the life force powered by faith in something much much bigger than they, with lives and accomplishments organized around that something greater, something ‘more than’–and they have a point, too, that activity without meaning may not amount to much, and that belief can be as ‘active’ as doing.

The only thing we must see to use today’s flow most successfully is that neither of these viewpoints is exclusive of, or better than, the other–in fact, those who make the most of today (perhaps of every day) are those willing to act and do with full awareness that there is meaning to things beyond what they can hold in their hands, and that this is so whether they acknowledge it or not (Mars trine Ceres and Mercury semi-square Ceres, Sun trine Jupiter)

For today’s word image we resort to song. You have your choice, depending on whether you take a more laid back approach to the day, looking for tranquility and balance:

or whether you are celebrating your time on Earth overflowing with active appreciation and a little enthusiastic dance:

Edouard Manet – ‘Le Chemin de fer’ 1873 {{PD}}

Oh that’s dramatic, isn’t it? But the aspects perfecting today all have the ring of pain for, if not pleasure, then advancement of the Will, change, or healing that reveals our true values and what’s actually sacred to us. Or maybe it’s not quite accurate to call it pain; maybe we should call it ‘experience’.

Our own choices and actions will, with surprising ease, create change; be aware that an idle wish or off-hand effort may bring immediate and truly unintended results. Part of the problem will be that we are inclined to connect our healed bits with those things to which we’re dedicated, almost showing off, but we’ll also allow unhealed wounds to drive some efforts, especially on the home front or with the mate, creating a dissonance that might be hard to sort out.

The good thing is that if our intentions are kind ones toward both ourselves and others, we’ll gain in every way, and possibly do some spontaneously inspired or surprising things in relationships or finances that will allow us to use some of our most unique talents and gifts. Aim for a combination of Self-awareness and good intention–and then have a great day! (Chiron sxt Vesta and nov Venus, Mars nov Pluto)

Saturday it’s all about relationships: how much do we wrangle over material matters, restrictions, and the past, how assertive should we be in addressing those things we (or our partner or another significant individual) have ignored or been in denial about, how aggressively to root out injustices, and how much to value smarts, how much practicality, especially if neither wins us love? With the Moon in Aquarius and so many passionate energies in retrograde, we may opt for the cool intellectual approach, but be forewarned: only those in love with our minds will respond as we’d like; everyone else may feel talked down to or frozen out, in which case we’d do better, with Venus brand new in Taurus, to go the comfort route, and offer everyone a slice of cake (Perfecting today: Mars nov Black Moon Lilith, Venus sxt Pallas, sesq Saturn, and nov SN)

Saturday’s word image is a girl chasing a big white goose; she finally catches it, and it nips her hard enough to draw blood. Obvs, right? What are we going after that will only cause injury if we actually get it? We need to ask a few questions: has this happened before, and we persist anyway? Are we aware of the sharp little teeth in that beak? Is there a reason we’re ‘pursuing our goose’, or is it a power play, or is it aesthetic, as we imagine holding the downy-white body close? Is this really ‘our goose’ to chase? And do we have plans for after we catch it, liking eating it, or stuffing a pillow with its feathers? I know, the goose symbol can quickly become tiresome, but the instructional value lies in giving us some distance from the situation in our lives that may correspond–and it urges us to be very sure there’s a purpose behind the pursuit, so that we’re not just wasting our time, chasing a silly goose.

Sunday we weigh our own empowerment against that of others, and we weigh communications against our highest values, requiring an absolute standard of honesty and truth. What the hell are we expecting? Demanding everyone bare their Soul is a bit unreasonable, especially considering we may feel those ‘rules’ don’t apply to us. We’re just a little confused today, imagining ourselves as all powerful (or as that being our rightful state) and we may set the bar far too high for the health and well-being of our relationships. On the plus side, we can be inspired by our own ideals to be our ‘best Self’, and expressing our creativity gives a nod to who we truly are, letting others see that most beautiful version of us, too (Sun sxt Neptune, Merc conjoined Vesta, Juno qnx Ceres)

William Merritt Chase ‘Hall At Shinnecock’ 1893 {{PD}}

What we’ve got going for us today are an enormous appreciation of the material world, of the senses and those things that comfort, gratify, and reassure (Venus enters Taurus), and we find both wisdom and practicality in seeing to our own and others’ ‘animal’ needs, and satisfaction in artisanal pursuits and products (Venus parallel Pallas). There is a kind of admiration for the physical world and the beauty of it that makes all of us connoisseurs–and that may have the effect of loosening the purse strings. ‘Smart’ and ‘beautiful’ seem to go together–and that can be an alluring, even irresistible, combination, so proceed with some awareness of your susceptibility, as the tendency may be to see one and assume the other. That may be minimized, though, by the focus on what we honor, what we dedicate ourselves to, on the home and the mate (Sun parallel Vesta).

Difficulties are all (thanks for your assistance, Merc retro!) due to our own misunderstanding of either the reality picture, or what actually needs to change (Mercury contra-parallel both Saturn and Pluto). What we think may be darker or more stringent than necessary, we may believe only permanent, extreme change will do, and we could temporarily stray entirely from our usual thinking and modes of communication. It’s not the time to let others know what we think, nor to address important issues, but it’s a great time to reform bad tendencies in thought processing and in getting our message across–we may find that a greater awareness of the wide world is needed, and that what we saw as powerful, effective, or efficient communication and thinking was something much less (Merc contra-parallel Saturn and Pluto)

Today’s word image is a bow and arrow. What are we to make of the Archer’s equipment? Saturn and Mars are both currently in Sagittarius, and both retrograde, suggesting frustration in efforts and accomplishments–and certainly, if we have natal placements in Sag, we are likely to feel a deficit that needs healing (through action, of course!) related to the nature of the body found there. For everyone, it may be a reality check in the sense of both what truly is, and the ways at least at present we are prevented from, or slowed at, doing anything about it.

Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida 1908 {{PD}}

Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida 1908 {{PD}}

It starts on the 27th as a low-grade hum, a vibrational dissonance that rattles our instincts and makes that sensation of suddenly dropping through space, just around our hearts; we revise and revise again our choices and actions, while at the same time finding the most odd things inspire us. It’s like that moment at the beach when the water recedes around your feet, drawing sand through your toes and underfoot in such a way that you think, ‘If this goes on just a little longer, it could pull me out, too.’ Try not to become disoriented as everything seems to move around you–and hang on to those ideas that come, they may be some of your most original (Black Moon Lilith contra-parallel Sedna, Uranus nov Neptune, Venus opp BML, Sun qnx Mars)

Mercury begins apparent retrograde motion at 10:20 AM Pacific time on the 28th, with first contact a trine from the Moon in Capricorn, quickly followed by a re-joining with Vesta, with both bodies in Taurus. Our minds may be so leaden, so concerned with the material, the senses, that effort at this point may be like punching our way out of a paper bag–hard to tell if we are as weak (or maybe that’s ineffective) as we feel, or whether that paper bag is much tougher than it appears. It may be this: every dark or hidden thing within us, every thing ignored or denied, every injustice we’ve witnessed and failed to address, is draining us, and Mercury turning around simply removes the mental safety net we’ve had in place; it takes away both our usual facility and the safeguards we are used to, exposing feeling incoherent in its amorphousness. We’ve used the mind to tamp this emotion or these facts down for so long they hold no shape when finally revealed.

Boris Artzybasheff {{PD}}

Boris Artzybasheff {{PD}}

Our mentality isn’t the only place we’ve been burying things; we see what’s been living under the stairs at this time, and we see the worth (or worthlessness) of our social connections. It’s as if we’ve used the power of our creativity and imaginative ability against ourselves, making us weak as kittens until we acknowledge (at the very least) all that we are avoiding. Until then we see a barrier between us and others, the quirk up of the flow of money and other assets, the social scene becomes awkward, and until we face things, this orientation makes us pick at our own wounds, though for the most part they’re not really a factor in current events. Face whatever you’ve been avoiding (convinced that it’s dark, but how do you know?
