Maharajah Duleep Singh (1838-1893), entering his palace in Lahore {{PD}}

For Saturday and Sunday, the 9th and 10th: A Maharajah surveys his lands from the back of an elephant, ‘escorted’ by British troops. Power doesn’t look like what it used to, and it isn’t always obvious who holds true authority. Despite the appearance of things, someone who seems to hold the reins is nothing but a figurehead. Look beyond titles and trappings, if you want to know who’s really in charge.

Red butterflyFor Monday the 11th: A red butterfly bursts from a white cocoon. Something that’s evolved out of your sight arrives on the scene, and it’s full of energy, drama, anger, emotion, urgency, flash. The unexpected and vibrant nature of what’s revealed may make you think twice about what else is in the works.

Saturday the challenge is to sort fact from fiction, and to tease out those who are hungry for real power versus those who are merely ambitious, trying to achieve. Here are a few wee formulas to help you figure things out: the more authoritarian someone’s approach, the more unwise their ideas; creativity brings strength; so does a willingness to express one’s uniqueness within the loose confines of and in harmony with the group; plans for the future will focus too much on difficulties and not enough on capabilities as they now stand, so leave them for another time; and too much navel-gazing will register as a distinct loss of personal power. Escapism will be a temptation, and while a little relaxation is just what the doctor ordered, a certain contingent (you know who they are) will go too far, likely out of a misguided attempt to show their independence (a slurred “You don’t know me!” might give them away) (Perfecting today: Pallas contra-parallel Ceres and Neptune, Neptune parallel Ceres, Pluto square Zeus, Mercury sesq NN, Sun conjoined Uranus and contra-parallel Ceres)

By the 10th it appears we’ll become very concerned with donning at least one of these masks: looking good for the social sphere; showing the wisdom we’ve gained from the experience of our wounds in either Money or Relationship matters; re-writing the history of our recent actions and choices; and showing either how creative we are, or how smart our life path. I termed these stances ‘masks’ because of the way we’re looking out, at the effect we’re having on others, by ‘wearing’ these particular attitudes and behaviors. There’s nothing inherently wrong with any of these concepts, but there’s something deeply amiss in the idea that we think we can don a mask (that is, be ungenuine by showing a specific ‘face’ to others) with the aim of fooling them about who we are (even if that’s only an attempt to show them something positive you think they might’ve missed). Be who and what you are, and don’t try to hide it, or talk people out of their ideas of you–you must live and choose unconcerned with what others will think.

A few other hints for handling Sunday: house hunting or other matters concerning the abode, and cooperation with what the mate wants, may be expensive, and overdoing (with time or money) on those things to which we’re dedicated is a real possibility; communication may be inadvertently hostile or hurtful, and certainly is about power; and if you can get a little perspective on your identity and role, you may discover some outstanding creative ways to gain/ earn–at the very least, you can write those ideas down for consideration later (Jupiter trine Vesta, Venus parallel Chiron and nov Pallas, Merc qnx Mars, semi-sq Chiron, and nov Ceres, Sun parallel Pallas, qnx NN, nov and contra-parallel Neptune)

Monday the 11th think deeply on what empowerment means to you (how much is it really centered in power, how much in autonomy, how much in freedom, in comfort?), and how you might get the sense of having it in your life, especially in material matters (Merc in Taurus opp Juno in Scorpio)

I’ll be back tomorrow with the images for all three days; in the meantime, if you come here often/ regularly, please consider making a small donation, buying a book, reviewing one of my books on Goodreads, or purchasing services (which are admittedly limited right now by heavy booking). Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend!

After that New Moon, there’s going to be a reckoning. The momentum that took shape yesterday continues, and we notice two trends: a real and present ability to connect to both our instincts and our originality, almost without effort, and an acute awareness of and appreciation of what in our lives we truly value. It may not sound like much, but these two shifts make our choices have impact and import of much more depth than they usually do–and this leads to reverberations from those decisions we make today that will reach out into the future (and maybe into the past) like ripples through water–so no sweat, right? (Perfecting today: Venus nov Vesta, Sun parallel Uranus and Sedna)

The New Moon in Aries is conjoined Uranus–does that mean what begins at this time is a spark, a surprise, an explosion, a riot, chaos of the highest order? Perhaps, though it could also be a new start, a modern approach, or a radical solution, and could portend group involvement or, conversely, suddenly having to ‘go it alone’. Look for the effect in the matters of the House of the natal chart where the NM falls–and then look to see if it fills in a pattern with your natal energies.

New Moon in Aries April 2016

The NM square to Pluto says that placements at 16-20 of Cancer or Libra draw you into a tense NM situation where the arm of the figure (the part not involved in an opposition) provides the answer to resolving the tension, particularly through the matters of the House this body rules (if any). If one has a natal square at those degrees of Cancer and Libra, the New Moon and transiting Pluto fill in a Cardinal Grand Cross, and likely present you with a crisis in action–one that either rises from the New Moon beginning (or is itself the New Moon beginning), or one that takes the usual way of dealing with the square, then destroys and transforms it into a new way to use the natal energies (and since Pluto has been nearby a while, the destructive process could’ve occurred some time ago, with the solution only now arriving).

Natal placements at 14-20 of Leo receive membership in a New Moon Grand Trine utilizing transiting Saturn. Here a NM event brings balance, stability, or materializes concretely the energy of the contacted natal body; peace may be found, a restlessness removed, or something intangible finally finds expression through the material, and there’s the potential for ending a destructive or power-oriented ambition or desire.

The New Moon-Uranus is also opposed Zeus. On the one hand this can bring ambitions and their fulfillment or lack thereof into that difficult T-square or Grand Cross described above; it can also show as a rejection of previous ambitions or desires, as a new personal (Aries) viewpoint emerges.

This is a New Moon, and that means any or all of these effects could be temporary, a stop gap or destined to evolve over time; especially for those with no contact to natal bodies, who experience it in ‘purest’ form, the New Moon may bring a surprising energy, a sudden burst of Willpower or the need to assert the ‘I Am’ in matters of the House where it falls, making a statement about Self-assertion and identity, ‘out loud’ if above the horizon, a whisper to the Self if below. Other influences for the 7th are the availability of healing messages (Mercury nov Chiron) and a sense of ‘being lucky’, seeing opportunities right away, and confidently asking the Universe for ‘more’ (Sun parallel Jupiter).

Vasnetsov_samoletThe Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘The “Magic Carpet” Of Oriental Imagery’. A flying carpet has always been about transport, a physical mechanism that takes us on a journey that shows us the world from a new perspective. That’s one of the more practical functions of imagination, so we might expect to see Neptune in the New Moon equation–but only if we look very carefully will we find it.

The New Moon falls equidistant from Sedna and Neptune, at their midpoint but outside the normal Ptolemaic measurements, and even outside the minor connectors. The aspect is both relative and relational, a connection that would normally go unnoticed, and maybe that’s the point: the New Moon brings a new perspective, one that stirs the creative and that draws on knowledge related to the primitive and the instinctual carried deep within consciousness (Sedna); we may believe the influence shaping the new viewpoint is entirely Self-conscious (Aries), but what occurs may be more subtle, and more hidden, than we know. This new viewpoint may be born from larger events (those created by contacts to the natal picture) or may arrive by refuting or defining particular desires or ambitions, by changing the current landscape through material expression, or may bring something significant (and possibly destructive) to a halt, with the discovery of this new way of being who we are, this new ‘I Am’.

I love the take on the New Moon at Robin’s Window

The word image for the New Moon is a glamorous, heavily beaded dress that loses a bead now and then as it’s worn. We might be very upset at the idea that what is essentially a work of Art isn’t remaining intact, but if we realize it’s a kind of ‘living Art’ in that the damage comes through normal wear, we might accept this as the evolution of the piece, its expression coming at the cost of perfection–and understand that the scars and losses and changes that come from living carry a perfection and beauty of their own.

Heinrich Vogeler ‘Frühling’ 1913 {{PD}}

We want to get it right, and our featured energy aspect easily combines what’s wise with what we are ignoring, are enraged by, or must attend to. That means we can see the wisdom in finally turning to and dealing with those matters we’ve been ignoring, which we’ve avoided usually out of a feeling that if we do address them, they could run away with our energy and demand from us until we are overwhelmed. That rarely happens; instead we use a portion of the spirit to suppress issues and then wonder why we are feeling as if we can’t address our lives fully or completely. It’s the drain of what we are avoiding, not the drain of what’s actually asked of us, that we become confused by.

Today we attempt concrete enhancements, and get a reality check centered on power, gaining control, and gaining influence within our own lives. We are too prone to reference the past, too prone to ignore what needs attention–and that’s exactly where we can push the flow in the direction we’d like to go. In facing what we are angry about, what we are reluctant to see or deal with, what we are ashamed of (courtesy of the energy assistance we receive from Pallas trine BML), we will re-claim all the power we hand over when we allow something negative to consume a part of our spirit, when we must use our own energy to suppress awareness of our demon. If we are clear on what we want, willing to look into dark corners and deal with negatives, determined to think for ourselves and to bring from past into present only those elements that truly worked, we can have a significant impact on our surroundings, and on the reality picture itself (Sun square Pluto and opp Zeus=T-sq, and contra-parallel Zeus and BML, Merc sesq Saturn and nov SN, Venus contra-parallel Chiron, Mars parallel Saturn, Pallas trine BML)

Today’s word image is a small boy walking a dog in the pouring rain. Sometimes there are things that must be done no matter how unpleasant or inconvenient; the trick is to acknowledge that there’s a need greater than your want of comfort, and then to just do what must be done–no dwelling on personal discomfort!

5 April 2016 We Try to Focus on: Venus entering Aries

We’re thinking materially, and we try to bring about physical circumstances that allow us to command our environment, and though we’ve got a clear picture of the current reality, we can’t seem to make it work. There are a few problems that are undermining our efforts: we keep thinking of empowerment in terms of how and what we gained in the past–we need to apply newly learned facts and think in more concrete terms than we usually do, in order to succeed; we need to be open to opportunities that will present in areas from which we would normally avert our gaze; and we have an unfortunate tendency to behave as if our only two choices in a matter are to follow instincts or to go with known wisdom–and I recommend we try a third method of thought, wherein we take a step back and look for the alternative that a moment before we pretended wasn’t there.

The biggest problem, though, may be that we find ourselves feeling a great deal of push to make things happen in our world, and we’re frustrated because, though it seems it’s a straight line from A to B, our efforts prove it to be anything but. I think this is what we need to become aware of: in this climate, charging forward makes us expend a lot of energy for very little result. Add to this that we are in the Dark of the Moon, and we are almost floating in an atmosphere where to exert the Self (exactly what Venus tries to do in Aries, until she gets used to it) is to work against effective accomplishment. We do best to let Venus work her magic in the sign of the Warrior by allowing her to attract the efforts, love, good will, and energy of others (their own need to act, or their chivalrous impulses, if you will), and as we respond to these, we find our energies channeled to exactly what and where they will make the greatest impact, or do the most good (Juno parallel SN, Pallas sq Sedna, Jup nov BML, Merc sesq Jupiter and enters Taurus, Sun trine Saturn)

Today’s word image is a handful of flower bulbs, bursting out before you can get them in the ground. A bulb is contained energy, and when the conditions are even close to right, it flowers. Our own energy, both tangible (stored in the body) and intangible (of mind, heart, and spirit), is the same way: we can store it for only so long before it has to spring forth–and if we fail to find proper conditions under which to release it, or we try to hold it indefinitely, always judging the present to be the ‘wrong’ time, then we risk the energy’s decay and exhaustion without any budding at all. Use the energy you have, do your best to make conditions favorable, and you’re likely to see some arrestingly beautiful things bloom.

What’s hidden is revealed; or, if not revealed, then it reaches out with tentacle-fingers and infiltrates every fiber of thought or being, influencing us, whether or not we are aware of these beliefs and standards. This may help us confront others or conditions that have been unduly burdensome or unfair; on the flip side, it may cause us to rebel, be angry, or punish in areas that aren’t really related to the original upset. Some things to keep in mind: thoughts are aligned with highest values or with those things we find sacred, yet actions are likely to carry undertones of rage, destruction, or a deep need for transformation. Best practices include not being afraid to see and show our differences from the dominant social trends, a willingness to adjust our ideas of who we are to accommodate opportunities, an understanding that the kind of empowerment we have in mind has its price (and it’s not pretty, in terms of what we believe we care about), and that ambition fulfillment requires that we refuse to harbor anger at past injustices–a clean slate is the only way to approach getting what we want, at this point (Black Moon Lilith qnx Sedna, Zeus parallel BML, Vesta opp Juno, Mars parallel Pluto, Merc parallel Vesta, Sun qnx Jup)

Today’s word image is a hug. I know, that’s not really an image, but it is something each of us can find and experience today. I’m talking about the warm, restorative, enveloping hug that conveys complete acceptance of who we are–and the person who offers it to you might be entirely different than you would expect. And if you don’t think you can receive it, then offer it to someone else–you’ll gain in the process, and be very surprised at its power to heal and renew.

Energies this weekend are fairly straightforward: Saturday we’ll make the wise decision (or we’ll know what’s smart, and choose otherwise!) and we’ll either express creatively or deceive on the home front, with the mate, or over important matters of commitment and ideals; and on Sunday we are doing our best to juggle relationships and/ or finances to maximize our own reach and empowerment. So, just relax! (Merc to asteroids, with dashes of Neptune, Sedna, Venus, and Vesta)

We address influences today most effectively through asking ourselves a series of questions; not everyone will need to contemplate every one of these, but most of us will need to consider more than one, in order to address issues.

  1. What do I care about from the past, so much that I want to bring it into the future?
  2. In what ways do I instinctively express power? Consciously extrapolate on the potentials here, and then go after what you want using those instinctive expressions to their fullest. You’ll be successful, but there’s no guarantee you’ll be happy with the results (that is, with what you actually achieve, including with your reputation). Gaining complete empowerment right now, in whatever form, will have its drawbacks.
  3. In what ways are my thoughts/ thought processes short-circuiting taking effective action or making clear choices? OR, Why am I so messed up around the issue of violence? OR, Why do I become so angry when I see others take action without guilt?
  4. What is cutting me off from my creativity at this time?

Today’s word image is a thief in the night. ‘In the night’ describes not just a nocturnal taking of assets, but one that generally will go unanswered; a thief who acts under cover of darkness is unseen and then gone, and we are typically unable to redress the wrong, either by re-claiming our assets or by being able to punish the taker. How to address not just the material loss, but the disrespect shown us by another human Being? Let it go. That’s right–don’t think about it. Let the Universe do its balancing thing, and know that, though you might not witness it, the culprit gets exactly what they deserve, in the end.

Here’s a good, concise bit of advice from Numerologist Christine DeLorey

‘Harvest’ Zinaida Serebryakova 1914 {{PD}}

We may find ourselves working alongside others, each with completely different goals, but somehow complementary in our actions, so that there is a kind of harmonious interlocking of purposes and aims. Others’ moves buoy ours, and we help them, without really taking any independent actions in support; it seems that in pursuing our own goals we aid others’ pursuit of theirs–at the most we may help by agreeing to something or doing something that costs us nothing, but makes a difference for them, and they may do the same for us.

It seems as if the world is one big coordinated mechanism and each of us a cog within it. Authorities aid us and we find we have just the right sliver of power to aid them; our uniqueness finds a smart form of expression, and this benefits more than just ourselves; relationships and financial positives offer personal empowerment and the ability to right a wrong or two (though beware of tackling anything you’re personally angry about–our magic touch deserts us under such conditions); and we find creative and harmonious ways to think about and speak for both ourselves and the group, with instincts vetting and supporting successful and unique Self-expression. Sounds like a pretty good day, doesn’t it? (Ceres sxt Sedna, Uranus parallel Pallas, conjoined and parallel Merc, both nov Neptune and Mercury parallel Sedna, Venus parallel Juno and qnx BML)

Today’s word image is a stubborn, deep-rooted, self-perpetuating daisy that grows so vigorously it smothers other plants.
