What makes the get-together of Merc and Neptune so special is the novile of both to Uranus; what gets lit up, as if it’s shot into the air with fireworks, or hit by lightning? Are we drunk ourselves with inspiration or dreams, or do we drink in the lies or dreams of another, sacrificing our own thoughts to theirs? Do our group involvements or individual initiative support our creative ideas, or are we too rebellious, erratic in effort, or insistent on originality to respect and successfully manifest our inspirations? Communications come through a haze of distortion or spirituality or altered states of consciousness or deception; we are left to sort the truth from fancy and fake.

There are other influences on the 10th, too: hurt infests our awareness and our sanctuaries, and the social scene and reality picture is harsh, seemingly at odds with our needs and priorities. Those in charge take their allies for granted, and those too fond of ‘the rules’ may lose sight of what they find sacred, as they pursue conformity or restriction. Rather than seeking escape, or whining about it, or getting lost in the fog, we need to firmly embrace a healing stance; allow no other attitude, and you can make excellent progress, in surprising, unique, or unexpected ways, toward your dreams (Sun conjoins Chiron, Jupiter contra-parallel Juno, Vesta sesq Saturn and parallel Sedna and nov Chiron)

Today’s word image is a person who is deaf, not by affliction, but by choice. The sheer Will it takes to shut out the world is astounding; we can all fail to listen, at times–but it’s disrespectful to ourselves and others to have an ability and to consciously, consistently, and deliberately refuse to use it. Invariably, the person who fails to listen does so hoping to gain something–to ignore the inevitable, to avoid responsibility, to demand more attention as others are forced to repeat themselves. Do you want to play that game? I don’t.

The valley between eclipses is typically a tense time, one where we’re trying to sort out what’s happening, to get a sense especially for a longer-distance viewpoint, but intuitively we feel the difficulties being deprived of the usual illuminating light of Sun and Moon bring: no emotional clarity (other than what the eclipse impact reveals), too many shadows to discern details, both a too-close view and a too distorted one of House related matters where the eclipse falls. So, we meet the next two weeks in this state; we’ll just have to do our best.

It might help to just lay out the aspects perfecting today and readers can pick and choose; the aspect picture is inevitably a Smörgåsbord, it’s just that between the eclipses a disjointedness is more apparent–and the tendency to vibe more strongly with certain aspects and disown others will be more obvious than usual, too.

Juno parallel Black Moon Lilith=this aligns, in a very subtle way, our efforts at empowerment with all those matters we are ignoring, in denial about, or are enraged by. We experience the ultimate irony when we must embrace what we have been trying to avoid, just to make ourselves heard.

Saturn square Ceres=the reality picture conflicts with Nature. How can that be? When we have created a construct we accept as reality that has little relation to the natural world, there comes a point when collapse of the illusion is inevitable. Expect to see a small corner of your world revealed, shorn of its ‘civilized’ trappings and adornments.

Venus novile Pluto=there’s a spark of genius in the effects of destruction or a willingness to discard what’s no longer needed; beauty, profit, or a renewed relationship emerges, somehow.

Mercury sesquiquadrate Black Moon Lilith=the messages we receive may be very disagreeable, and what we communicate to others may be something they prefer to ignore–but the consequences of refusing to process information we get today will be someone’s rage, and someone’s shame–and we can’t predict where or with whom the upset will occur.

Today’s word image is wide open green skies. What fundamental to your world just underwent radical change? It’s not changing back, so accept, or at least learn to work with, your new reality.

Just a couple of notes on aspects perfecting today; the big show is with the eclipse, of course, which arrives here on the Western US coast on the 8th. Since we’re in the Dark of the Moon right now, we are more open to sensing than to reasoning–and we really feel like that in approach to a Total Solar Eclipse. While our eyes (and our sensitive ‘feelers’) are on the Moon, Vesta will quietly enter Taurus–and probably bring emphasis to the material needs and comforts, especially those related to the Lunar event, though Venus square Sedna may temporarily interfere with that emotional and intuitive signal, putting finances and relationships, for just a little while, beyond easy understanding (or at the very least, complicating our feelings toward them). We also see Juno trine Ceres, bringing balance to relationships between powerful or dynamic women, and also between our need for power and what we must do (or compromise) to obtain it; those aspects are all on the 7th.

By the 8th we’ll also have Vesta contra-parallel Zeus, which may tip our attention and efforts in the direction of honoring what’s really important to us, rather than toward pursuing goals; it may seem that relationships and causes to which we’re dedicated must be seen to first. We also see Saturn sextile Pallas, connecting the smart choice to what’s practical or wise–and possibly suggesting that we can learn what’s smart by observation of what is, of the rules, and/ or by noting what’s solid and dependable. And then there’s the eclipse.

Solar Eclipse 8 March 2016 5:54 PM Pacific Standard Time at 18 Pisces 55

In energy terms, eclipses wipe out what came before. They clean the slate and write a new energy equation on it, one that describes the general influence and tone of Sun (consciousness) and Moon (emotions) in interaction. This may build on what came before, or obliterate it—we can only know which for the individual by inspection of the eclipse impact in the natal chart—but in any case the pair of eclipses brings a shift in tone that extends through to the next eclipse set, in about six months. The New and Full events are always separated by two weeks, but not necessarily in that order. They shake-up and realign, and the change they bring can be subtle as a breeze, or shocking as an earthquake that drops the ground beneath our feet.

A New Moon eclipse brings a kind of ‘super-birth’, a brand new energy direction that sees the inception of many beginnings themed to the sign and aspects of the Lunar event; a Full Moon eclipse brings something to closure, again related to placement and aspects. Sometimes the Full Moon presents as a finish, a fait accompli, an ending or boundary past which we can go no further, or it shows us a culmination of events and their result; when the Full Moon is an eclipse, we add to this a sense of finality that may remove something or someone from ours lives for good. We must remember, too, that with a Full Moon, we may find the seeds of new beginnings, as when one thing ends it invariably leaves an empty energetic ‘space’, into which something new always, eventually, goes.

With a New or Full Moon we keep orbs as close as possible, simply because we want a crisp picture of Lunar effects. For a Solar Eclipse (a New Moon, the alignment of which finds Earth, Sun, and Moon along the same plane, with the Moon between the Earth and Sun) we allow a slightly more generous span; we respect the intensity the event generates, we feel our primal senses give a little ‘jump’ as the Moon moves between us and the Sun and blackens in relief against the Sun’s glowing corona, and through the experience are just a little more acutely aware of our connection to Nature. Even being able to explain the mechanism of the event doesn’t divest it of mystery. It makes sense, then, that we use bigger orbs for the aspects this impressive alignment forms.

The Pisces Solar Eclipse/ New Moon of 2016 conjoins Chiron (only one minute less than 2 degrees apart) and Ceres (with a gap of just over 3 degrees), and falls close to (off by only 42 minutes) exact opposition to Jupiter. Normally we don’t consider semi-sextiles unless they’re tight, but we have one today, to Uranus. The eclipse also sextiles Pluto, is widely trine Juno, and quincunxes Zeus, though the orb is too big to also include Zeus’ companion in Libra, Black Moon Lilith. We also see a T-square, with Saturn the arm to the opposition of the eclipse (Moon-Sun) to the combination of Earth conjoined Jupiter (and we might note that since the Earth is always precisely opposed the Sun, we wouldn’t be noting it here except for the involvement of Jupiter).

With the eclipse closely conjoined Chiron and Ceres we can expect a new state surrounding a wound (and this may involve healing or fresh wounding), associated especially with the primal wound our natal Chiron represents, or one keyed to our personal expression of power, talent, or authority, especially as it comes through a natural role, or through what we might describe as a gift (for instance, through being a parent, or as a man or woman at a biological/ social level, or in our role within the Arts or in whatever way we display our talents), and this may come about through material circumstances (Earth) created by the social order or their representative entities (Jupiter—religious or educational institutions, ‘foreign’ governments) and their judgments, or by current material facts (also Jupiter in the Earth sign Virgo).

This wound-related or power-related event may show us our socially or materially-imposed limits (the Saturn square) that will spur or create change (Pluto), which is ultimately empowering to us (Juno), though this empowerment requires adjustment to our goals, ambitions, and desires (Zeus)—this adjustment may require enhanced discipline or acquiescence to the rules (Saturn)—and the whole thing may come as something of a surprise (Uranus). What occurs likely springs spontaneously (Uranus) out of older circumstances (the Saturn T-square may even imply an age-old struggle of some kind) that point us in a new direction, either through an experience of hurt, or an experience of healing (both Chiron), and the way these reflect our personal power situation and natural authoritative roles (Ceres). The new start is empowering and possibly status-conferring, especially if we form a new partnership (Juno), and forces modification of our desires and ambitions (Zeus), as they will have to change (Pluto) to accommodate the new direction (the New Moon eclipse).

The Sabian for this eclipse is, ‘A Master Instructing His Disciple’. This suggests an inflow of information from which we may benefit, that matures us and makes us more adept in some area, specifically an area we are trying to master, than we were before. The ‘super-birth’ relates to applying our attention and effort to a discipline or body of knowledge, of being accepted into or initiated into a Knowledge Tradition that shares the accumulated experiences of all who walked the Path ahead of us. An example of what we are to become (‘A Master’) is before us; how then does this change our ambitions and goals? We receive, in one form or another, something akin to the wisdom of the Universe in the Solar Eclipse event, passed on by one who knows and shares this with us, and no matter what it appears to be on the surface, what happens or develops at this time will in the end be fortuitous for us, taking us a step farther along the Path, either enhancing our expertise or our personal development.

I don’t usually discuss things for an eclipse that aren’t directly triggered by that eclipse, but in this case I’ll make an exception, because many people may be feeling this gathering in Pisces and understandably mistaking it (that’s a Piscean specialty, after all) for a Lunar eclipse influence. At the time of the Lunar Eclipse, Ceres, Chiron, and the South Node will all sit within 24 minutes of each other at 21 degrees Pisces. This brings hurt, authority figures or one’s own personal authority, and the past together in such a way that a memory of, for instance, a past power struggle lost becomes, through the haze of imagination, a more significant (and possibly more injurious) event than it really was. That is, we may suddenly designate this a seminal event that seems to be the source of the Lunar eclipse effect, when it’s actually just a carry-over of the Solar (Pisces) Eclipse that preceded it—and we are doubly likely to do this if the struggle we have in mind was one within a partnership. The Pisces area of the natal chart will be sensitized by the Solar Eclipse, and like a tuning fork, this grouping of Ceres, Chiron, and South Node may continue to carry the reverberation long after our awareness of the eclipse would usually be relegated to background noise within the unconscious.

Lunar crater Daedalus. We know what happened to him, right? Stay away from the Sun, kids! {{PD}}

Fun facts: according to Space.com, “Since the moon formed about 4.5 billion years ago, it has been gradually moving away from Earth (by about 1.6 inches, or 4 centimeters per year). Right now the moon is at the perfect distance to appear in our sky exactly the same size as the sun, and therefore block it out.” And this: “Researchers say that when it formed, the moon was about 14,000 miles (22,530 kilometers) from Earth. It’s now more than 280,000 miles, or 450,000 kilometers away.” To answer the question, Will the Moon ever escape Earth’s orbit? we have this somewhat snarky explanation from Physics Forums: “. . . the moon will only move away from Earth until it reaches an orbital resonance when the length of the Earth’s day and the Moon’s month will be equal – that’s in about 50 billion years. In theory the moon could then move closer to Earth, but since they are both going to be consumed by the sun before that – it’s a bit academic.”

The Word image for this period through the eclipse is ‘Two individuals argue, not realizing they’re saying the same thing’. Sometimes we are so busy making our point that we don’t hear what’s coming at us. An eclipse can, in the same way, block our clear perceptions of something, most likely matters found in the House of the natal chart where it falls. Don’t react too strongly during this period, as in a very short time full light (and so our perceptions) will be restored.

Today, when our Self-expression is most unique, original, and individually our own, then we’ll find we’re closely aligned with our own highest values and priorities. It’s a time ripe for Vestal discovery, that is, learning how vital and far-ranging are our feelings about what’s important to us–and this in turn feeds unique expression, which we can achieve at present, possibly more completely than ever before. The clarity available to us right now is striking, and can illuminate the depths and intensity of thought that propels our most serious efforts. That can lead to dissonance within the social circle, in the awareness that certain things we accepted as ‘facts’ aren’t, and potentially may alter the nature or purpose of our ambitions and goals. It’s a day when a great deal may be revealed and understood, by and about us–attention on and to your own Beingness is key (Uranus parallel Vesta and qnx Jupiter, Merc semi-sq Pluto and sesq Zeus, Sun sxt Pluto)

Of note is the ongoing sticky Cardinal T-square with Uranus opp Zeus, both squared by Pluto, which is likely putting many of us into a tizzy concerning our ambitions, opportunities, and our individual expression, all of which seem threatened. The quincunx of Jupiter to T-component Uranus tells us the tension this creates will probably leak out in social situations, or in inappropriate attempts to reach out or expand, or in the need to recognize ‘uncomfortable’ facts, or in succumbing to schemes that promise something that can’t (or won’t) be delivered. Just be aware of the dynamic, and know that anything in the desire or goal department that’s removed right now is eliminated for the better.

Today’s word image is a key broken off in a lock. What have your own possibly hasty or insistent actions essentially put out of your reach?

Peter Henry Emerson – ‘Gathering Waterlilies’ Platinum print from 1886 {{PD}}

With Mars entering Sagittarius today and Merc entering Pisces (and paralleling Ceres), we’ll see things, especially individual efforts and communications, take on an outward-facing, communally conscious tone, with each of us becoming much more aware of the unseen and what’s ‘out there’, beyond what we know, just waiting for us to learn about it–but it’s also an atmosphere wherein our first inclination will likely be to try to find our own place within that larger picture, rather than charging out toward the horizon or thinking more about the Collective than ourselves–and finding that place may not be easy. We’ll be too keenly aware of what’s not working in both the social environment and in real-world, material terms; and our own empowerment will not be available through the usual means of exercising wisdom and practicality, or by following our highest values as a guideline.

So what’s a seeker to do? In all areas, but particularly in finances, investments, and relationships, we’ll need to face what we’ve been ignoring, denying, or what has enraged us–and it’s just possible that it’s our own behavior that needs examining (and here’s where I remind some of us that relationships are not investments! with putting in guaranteeing you can withdraw–that is, demand–in kind–they are free interactions, with each individual giving freely, and accepting that the other person owes them nothing–otherwise it’s a business transaction). That’s not all, though; there’s a second step, consisting of a willingness to modify our life direction, if what we reveal in our examination shows that something about our forward motion must change. Putting our energy into these two areas, study of what we have neglected (or neglected to address), along with the humility to admit our life direction needs a little tinkering, will set us on the only truly productive course–all else will be, more or less, spinning our wheels (Juno sq Pallas and contra-parallel Vesta, Venus trine Black Moon Lilith and qnx the NN, Sun sq Saturn and contra-parallel Jupiter)

Croquis_numérique_d'un_des_chats_du_refuge_de_Brissac,_sur_un_fond_dégradéToday’s word image is a bed unmade, with two cats curled in the center like the Pisces symbol. If you’ve got Pisces placements, or in the matters of the House in the natal chart with Pisces on the cusp, this may imply that your ‘bed’ in this area is still ‘not made’, referencing that saying, ‘You’ve made your bed, now lie in it.’ The suggestion is there’s still time to form your Piscean energies to your liking, and to do so consciously, with deliberate intent. Or, maybe this just means you need to shoo your cats out of there, and make the bed 🙂

Telling others what we think easily ‘catches fire’ and becomes angry (or maybe just vociferous) today, but whether words display temper or not, one thing we can be sure of, what people say/ communicate carries the essence of what they truly care about, what they honor and find sacred, and what they will fight to preserve. That tells us to take seriously the message behind the words–and to realize we are conveying the same with our own speech, topic choices, mannerisms, and ‘statements’.

The thing that will really be empowering, much more so than just speaking out, will be the facing of those areas we’ve been ignoring, in denial about, or that we see as unjust. In choosing to engage with one or more of these, we find our way to a highly effective form of personal power expression, one we could not have stumbled upon without taking up that challenging, and probably unpleasant, subject (Merc sxt Vesta and sq Mars, Sun parallel Black Moon Lilith and trine Juno)

Today’s word image is two trees, though young, that must come down. We can’t always judge the ‘life expectancy’ for another living thing–which is why it’s so important to treat everything in our sphere every day with an energy that recognizes both the sanctity of life, and the relentless temporal nature of our current reality.

What’s empowering for us isn’t what makes us feel free, radical, unique, or original–well that’s a bummer–and what’s worse is that we’re actually feeling quite strong, our mentality and spirit aligned with our personal power and authority, but all we’re getting, each time we try to reach out, expand, learn, or interact with the social sphere, is the message that our talents, finances, or even our Love, isn’t enough, or good enough, for some invisible standard we may or may not hold ourselves–and the need to be recognized will, for some, be so great that they willingly abandon their own highest values to court that recognition. I’d stop writing right here and go weep quietly in the corner, if not for this: the way our minds and thoughts will be primed to home in on effective ways to transform what we aren’t happy with, including ourselves, and things communicated by others, consciously or unconsciously, will prove useful. All energy and attention should go to planning, to thinking about change–and to saving action for tomorrow (Uranus contra-parallel Juno, Venus qnx Jupiter, Mercury nov Pluto, Sun conjoined Ceres and contra-parallel Vesta)

550px-Popcorn.svgToday’s word image, for better or worse, is actually a word: hyperbole. Whether you see or hear this several times (as I have) or you find your attention drawn to something exaggerated, overblown, excessive, weigh what comes at you today carefully, so that you’ll recognize the kernel of pure truth, or the nugget of intent, around the popped-corn puffery of hyperbole.

Fulfilling a desire centered on relationships or ambitions is promised–at least, what we’re passionate about is slated for fulfillment if we are willing to be totally Self-responsible, and if we are willing to shun any methods that rely on intellectual persuasion, shock and awe, or the clout of the group to make them happen. If you’re okay with carrying your own burdens, living and responding in the moment, allowing your uniqueness to show, and being original without being unreasonably radical, then you have a good chance at making those wishes a part of the reality picture–it’s as simple, and as complicated, as that (Venus trine Zeus and sxt Uranus, Sun contra-parallel Uranus and parallel Zeus)

Today’s word image is a triangle. There are positives to this (a triangle is a stable shape) and less positive (when used to describe a relationship among three people, with the implication that all of them are unhappy), so that this symbol might suggest stability in your life at present, or a strangely balanced but unrequited relationship scenario. Too, the act of triangulation allows one to determine where something is located–meaning you may need to take data from several disparate sources to find what you’re looking for. And the shape has been employed in many ways (the distinctive ‘Yield’ sign, identifying gay individuals in Nazi Germany, in 3-D with the pyramids) so that there might be something it stands for that you resonate with personally. So, which of those applies to you right now? Or do you have another meaning in mind?

Somehow, what we honor in life today can only remain sacred as long as we ignore or deny something about its actual state. For some reason we feel it’s important to maintain our illusion that whatever we revere is perfect–and yet that denies its true nature, and denies our own instincts, which are fighting a losing perceptual battle within the mind. Though it’s impossible to get a grasp on our ‘deeper knowing’ at this point, it is possible to observe where we may be off the mark by taking a good look at our ambitions and desires; what we want will speak of where we think we’re headed, and who we really are, and allow us to know, by reflection in the mirror of ideals, what we need to modify to remain (or become) the person we want to be (Vesta contra-parallel Black Moon Lilith, Merc sq Sedna, Sun contra-parallel Sedna and parallel Zeus)
