Have you noticed it, too? Since the Earth came between the Moon and the Sun last week (and cast its shadow in eclipse–6 more weeks of winter? You betcha!) a single facet in each individual seems to have come forward for prominent expression. I think the area where the issue/ characteristic originates is that of the matters of the House in which the eclipse fell, and the facet is very targeted, as if the eclipse jarred loose something specific in each of us that then just had to spill out. This was something ’til now hidden from us, and likely from others, as suggested by the Scorpio placement of the event; if we are paying attention, we have learned something about everyone we’ve encountered in any significant way during this period, and probably something about ourselves, as well.

The planet ‘ruling’ the eclipse, Pluto, was closest in aspect, by square, to its long-time on again, off again partner, Uranus in Aries, at the time of the event. The planet of individuality, of uniqueness, of acting out and shows of independence seems to have drawn from the Underworld something we’ve been keeping in the dark, perhaps because it spoils our Self-image, perhaps because it challenges our typical modus operandi. The ‘I Am’ has cried out, and we’d better listen.

We may be tempted to brush what we’ve seen aside, terming it an anomaly, but we should do just the opposite: embrace it, either as knowledge (“Look what I found inside me!”) or as warning (“Where the hell did that come from?”) At this point it’s likely we feel whatever came forward has now passed; but to quote one of our greatest philosophers, Mr. George Carlin: “Just cuz you got the monkey off your back . . . doesn’t mean the circus has left town!” And so it is with what the eclipse brought forward: along with helping us see that something once seemingly impossible no longer is–we see the potentials–we have also learned about a single, salient characteristic within ourselves, and also within others important to us, that may be significant in driving current life direction or concerns.

Whether the characteristic itself was deemed positive or negative, there can be a positive, or at least productive, outcome from its exposure: we can take what we saw or learned seriously, and address whatever need or urge it expressed from deep within. The valley between eclipses (for it does seem to me to be a kind of valley, where the eclipse falls across the landscape, dominating with shadow) is the perfect time to meet the issue presented head-on, and to deal with it. To avoid it is to push the urge back underground–and though the monkey may seem to be off our back–you get the picture.

I’m going to get right down to it, this time: the essence of the eclipse (12:57 PM PDT at 5 Scorpio 45) is that something surrounding this event will show us that what we once thought impossible is very, very possible. That can take many different forms, and is at the heart of today’s developments. The opening up of possibilities sets the stage for the next two events, a Solar eclipse on 10 May and another Lunar one on 25 May. New Moon of November 13th at 2:07 PM Pacific Standard time at 21 Scorpio 56 is a Solar eclipse

The Sabian for the eclipse is, ‘Hunters Shooting Wild Ducks’. This suggests something free and wild stalked by, and possibly destroyed by, something predatory–and the something predatory is equipped with ‘arms’ and ‘ammo’ against which the hunted is essentially defenseless. The ‘wild things’ are frightened from their protective cover, made to flee in the hope that they can protect themselves by getting away. Though it may seem obvious, we should note that duck hunting is a very deliberate, planned activity; one does not just happen to take one’s hunting rifle when one is out for a stroll, just happen to flush ducks from their cover, and think, ‘Well, maybe I’ll take a crack at those!’ We must be aware that this may be the underlying state of the previously described conflict (in an earlier paragraph): that the conflict could in fact be one where one party seeks to ‘ambush’, take by surprise, or take advantage of the other. Duck hunting, we must acknowledge, doesn’t very often result in duck on the dinner table–it is instead much more considered, however inappropriately, ‘sport’, and there’s a good chance that if you find yourself as the stalkee, this could indeed be the attitude of the stalk-er. That will make it both very hard to make sense of things, and impossible to drag a reason for such aggression out of the stalk-er; feeling his or her power, they are unlikely to feel the need to justify their choice.

Currently we’re looking at a Void now through 12:44 AM PDT tomorrow, November 3rd; Voids typically play out in weird combinations of short-circuited efforts, ennui, low energy, false starts, and sometimes the unanticipated outcome or opportunity. Today seems right on target as I wander listlessly from room to room. Thank goodness it all perks up tomorrow with the Moon’s entry into Cancer, if only by giving us a definite lens through which to inspect our surroundings. As I said in ECLIPSE:

Upon entry of the Moon into Cancer at 12:44 AM PDT of the 3rd, a trine is formed with Neptune that may set the tone for the entire transit of this, the Moon’s own sign. Events may be interpreted through an emotional lens that features fantasy, imagined circumstances, ideals, and/ or deceptions accepted as fact, and confusion is as likely an emotional ‘outlook’ as is taking a creative and imaginative tack with the day. It’s your choice, but then again, it may be rowing against the tide to try and stay super-grounded at this point. Try to channel Neptune’s seminal influence (seminal as it informs the Moon’s transit of the entire sign of Cancer) into some area where you can put creativity fueled by emotions to good use.

And for Sunday the 4th:

November 4th sees Saturn perfect his trine to Ceres and Venus reach sesquiquadrate to Sedna. We may feel a challenging atmosphere surrounding the gentle, receptive, relationship-keyed energies, as well as around those natural powers that are distinctly female; the difficulty may be that either some harder-edged inclination wants to tame, restrict, or contain these influences, or that, especially in the case of a female herself, these influences may simply be ‘forgotten’, for a time. How you react may all depend on your own balance of Saturn (reality-keyed, fixed, rigid, serious and stolid, constructive and constrictive energy) and Venus (relationship and asset-keyed, playful, desiring and affectionate, luxury-loving, jealous and teasing, receptive and symbolically soft and fluid).

I am doing a limited number of Eclipse Reports keyed to the upcoming November eclipses as they affect the individual natal chart. This is a report that zeroes in on what the eclipses might bring forward in your life over the next six months (through to the next eclipse set). Eclipses seem to elaborate themes that manifest through each individual differently, and the chart can be a helpful guide to where in life these will show and how we might best handle them. These reports are delivered by email in PDF form and will look at the ways the eclipse energies ‘light up’ the natal scenario; ideally, the report highlights the issues that will be most prominent for you, and will offer some commentary on other major transits in force at the time that may influence eclipse effects. These are not complete natal assessments, nor are they meant to answer current life questions (though they might, considering the impact eclipses can have)–instead they look at a temporary effect, like an electrical current sent surging through a circuit–until the current is re-directed six months later. That means the reports talk about targeted areas of your chart, with everything written by me personally–no computer generated material is used–but that also means that I get to the point, so if you’re looking for length or excessive verbiage (though I’m certainly capable of it!) these are not typically part of the package. Did you feel it? The answer is probably yes and no–this eclipse is both particularly stimulating and elusive to conscious perception–and so we enter this eclipse period (active through to the next eclipse set, in six months) both excited (in a way I would almost describe as occurring at the molecular level!) and harboring a distinct sense of mystery about what’s to come (and what’s happening right now), a near-mystic state wherein each of us mentally and perceptually rests somewhere on a continuum between unconscious and confused all the way to centered and enlightened. This enlightenment is of a very specific kind, a knowing that does not involve words or concepts, but that is more of an emotional feeling and sensory feeling experience. It surrounds us, it is us, it envelopes us, and our ability to be at peace with this, a kind of inspiration (almost literally in the ancient sense of ‘to breathe in’) that is like standing deep in the Cosmic flow. Our comfort with this atmosphere is what’s in question over the next half-year, and we will need to ask ourselves, what will we do with this, what will we make of it?

What we see in the present, though, at least in terms of what it suggests about our future, is in one way or another misleading; this we must grapple with on our own. Some advice from ECLIPSE Weekly Aspect Digest:

With the Gemini/ Sagittarius axis energized at this time, it becomes especially important to sort what’s ‘real’ from the mass of information and possibilities included in what we think, what we’re told, what we believe, what Faith tells us is so, and what we learn or experience from our naturally limited, first-person viewpoint. This eclipse brings that challenge into focus, and requires only that we know who we are, in order to handle what comes successfully. To see ourselves as a Warrior for our own Will (which usually causes us so much trouble!) is precisely what is needed in order to remember who we are in the face of projections about where we’re headed that are misleading, that we misunderstand or misinterpret, or that we don’t experience at all (not seeing the shadow of the Lunar Sabian image).

The 10th sees a Total Lunar Eclipse (Full Moon) at 18 Gemini 10 at 6:35 AM PST (with the eclipse following soon thereafter). Using our strict 2 degree orb, we have only two aspects, to Venus and Ceres, aside from the opposition to the Sun, but we’ll be adding a third in a bit (available in the newsletter)–first, let’s look at these strongly female-oriented energies as they connect to a ‘moment of completion’ involving a principle symbol of woman, the Moon. This suggests a culmination point of immense  power, as the Earth, balanced exactly between Moon and Sun in alignment, blocks the Sun from offering light to the Moon–and thus the Moon cannot perform her usual reflective function. She is prevented from her usual method of taking in animus light and shining it back into the Universe. Receptivity involves being open and willing to take in another’s assertive (animus) energy as one’s own; it’s a stance that requires a certain ability to put the Self to the side and use one’s own energy to support another–but what does the Moon do when she is not receiving the light of the dominant Sun?

Our clue is in the aspects this Full Moon/ eclipse makes; the energies it touches tell us the character the Full Moon will adopt when her typical way of relating is unavailable to her. The quincunx to Venus says that relationships, assets, or finances must be adjusted to the circumstances presented at the Full Moon; the square to Ceres says that authorities may be involved, but in particular, one’s own authority may be tested, perhaps in a contest between those ‘in charge’ and ourselves. But, when we consider that the Moon, a normally nurture and maternally focused energy, is in a tense situation with Ceres, a light bulb may go on: our maternal role, instincts, nurture function, or relationship to external maternal energies may present a conflict (the square) with another entity’s instinctive, maternal, or power role that is a culmination of some situation, likely long-brewing, over territory, responsibility, or influence. By removing, in a sense, the influence of the Solar orb, Moon/ Ceres energies that might typically be overshadowed by assertive ones can come out to play–if we can consider some serious sorting out of power positions a game!

The Lunar Eclipse is an opposition, and that means it falls across one of the House axes of your natal chart. This is an energy of change, an eclipse of current life circumstances in the involved Houses with a new and different energy, and it always brings forward the question, What will this mean to me? Below are a few possibilities; access your intuition in answering.

A partial Lunar eclipse in Capricorn begins at 4:30 AM PDT on the 26th at 4 Capricorn 46. I cover a couple of configurations active at the eclipse here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-eclipse-spring-2010/ and this info concentrates in particular on the dynamics we can expect; here we’ll talk about the most arresting aspect of the eclipse, the Earth/ Moon/ Pluto line-up with only 41 minutes separation, along with the other aspects that fall into our 2 degree orb. This conclave in Capricorn is startling; how can we have a culmination (Full Moon) that is also either a wipe-out or an experience of total transformation?

If we think of it like this, it makes sense: bringing matters of the House axis across which this eclipse falls (and particularly in the House where the Moon/ Earth falls) to a moment of culmination, to a conclusion or point of determination where we can say, “This is what it is, this is what we have, this is how it ends,” will bring its own new material view/ view of reality, one that transforms the subject at hand into something utterly and entirely different. The conclusion of one event, progression, or situation births another–it rises like the phoenix from the ashes of what came before, and because of what came before we are prepared to see it in a whole new way.

The Sabian for this degree is: ‘Indians on the Warpath. While Some Men Row a Well-Filled Canoe, Others In It Perform a War Dance.’ This suggests that the eclipse brings about a very particular attitude, one that is so strongly felt that aggression (or at least unequivocal assertion) is the proposed course of action. This attitude is taken by people well-equipped to wage war on/ let their attitudes be known to others, and there is no hesitancy in letting everyone know that this is the intent–though you’ll notice, no ‘war’ is actually being engaged in; this is bluster, hype, threats, a cry of ‘look how serious we are!’–and that implies that the intent is really to transform the playing field, to change the way others regard us, to be taken seriously.

The other aspects that fall within our orb measurement that figure in to this are an opposition to the Moon by Mercury, and the eclipse axis plus Mercury and Pluto create a T-square with Jupiter in Aries. This gives us more hints about meaning: we really are trying to communicate something quite distinct about who we are (Mercury conjunct the Sun), and we are willing to exaggerate to get our message across (Jupiter). The point is to broadcast an image that makes ‘them’ take ‘us’ more seriously ; the point is not to engage in an actual war, only to threaten this kind of all-out effort, in which consequences cannot be anticipated and destruction of some kind is almost guaranteed. (Note that Merc and Jupiter are both slightly more than 2 degrees from aspect but as always, the chart must be assessed as a whole, with necessary leeway granted in order to make sense of the Big Picture).

The eclipse makes one other aspect, with Moon/ Earth/ Pluto sextile Pallas. This tells us something that may be rather surprising about this image of broadcast aggressive intent: it’s a smart thing to do. Our own wisdom prompts us to make this noise, to beat this particular drum in this particular way, and it’s good that we do. Part of gaining the respect of others is that we are considered skilled and worthy Beings capable of effecting our surroundings–each of us needs this kind of regard, and built in to it is a certain animal response: we do not respect those who don’t have an effect on things or on us, and this is not a matter of physicality so much as a matter of the energy of the spirit as it reaches out to the spirits of others. It is the respect of one living thing recognizing the spark in another, and it’s this impression we’re seeking to make.
