Aurelia (Fazio’s Mistress). 1863 (retouched in 1873) Dante Gabriel Rossetti {{PD}}

The Lunar eclipse occurs on the 7th of August at 11:11 AM Pacific time at 15 Aquarius 25; this places the Full Moon event at the midpoint of Neptune and Pluto, and so deems the Sun apex to a (just slightly) loose Finger of God, which right away suggests that what transpires, and where our attention goes, may not be to the Lunar energies, at least not at first. The Full Moon is in Aquarius, a sign of intellectual acuity, experimentation, originality, the unusual, the freakish, the surprising, the unique, but it may be the Sun’s Leonine energies that set the whole thing off: the essence of the Self finds revelation, or revolution, in some situation that brings together the ideal, the misunderstood, the fantastical, the spiritual, or the elements of a dream (Neptune), with the energy and power of change, transformation, or destruction (Pluto). Will the result be the emergence of some amazing new part of the individual, some characteristic, talent, or goal one has been striving to express? Or will it be less thrilling, the removal of some fantasy about power, or about spiritual change, or about how attaining the dream will transform the individual? What the eclipse reveals as the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon on precisely the same plane, blocking the Sun’s light from reflecting off the Moon, is something culminating, ending, that brings closure to a particular emotional situation that we may only see once the dazzling sunlight is removed. We will literally be observing the Earth’s shadow, symbolically seen as the shadow of our own material existence and its effect on the spirit and the emotions; we will see the result of the individual Will, desire, heart (Leo) as it has shaped the emotional reality (Luna) through the choices made in this physical realm (Earth).

The only other aspects to fall within acceptable orbs are a trine from Zeus and Jupiter, which two are closely conjoined in Libra, and an opposition to Mars, from which the Sun is now separating. This suggests something quite interesting: that whether the eclipse effect is one that takes us closer to our ideals, or one that removes something untrue from the life and perceptions, it will still serve to deliver an expanded, optimistic, and opportunity-filled scenario (it will deliver this if we can recognize it as such, that is), one that addresses the ambitions and desires (for good or ill, for fulfillment or denial), with the likely instrument a partner, friend, or a cooperative or aesthetic venture (Libra); all that occurs with this event will, one way or another, be the product of our own choices, action, or Will, even more directly so than in daily life (Mars opp). That means we will be looking at a direct reflection of our own ‘I Am’, something we can’t see under ‘normal’ light; the Lunar eclipse puts a kind of black light on the ego and what it has done, so that we can observe effects that have been invisible, until now, and it does so through an Aquarian lens: one that ‘bends the light’ toward Higher Thought, toward a new and original facet of the ‘I Am’.

The Sabian symbol for the Lunar eclipse is, ‘A Big Businessman At His Desk’. This speaks of the ego, the ‘I Am’, as it has directed and organized things—which is ironic considering that eclipse Mars is conjoined the Sun, with this suggesting a certain distance (and so an ability to get some perspective) on the ego and our actions and choices. We also see echoes of the social structure, of convention and economic development and cooperation—but what comes through strongest is the solitary nature of such a position. This Full Moon may make it exceptionally clear in what areas we are psychically (and perhaps even materially/ physically) alone—and awareness of our singular status could be accompanied by our undeniable fitness to manage our circumstances, situation, or approach on our own.

‘Fingal’s Cave’ J. M. W. Turner 1830 {{PD}}

We also look at the symbol for the Sun, as it produces the light that enables Earth to cast the shadow in the first place: ‘The Storm Ended, All Nature Rejoices In Brilliant Sunshine’. Ah! This promises that the eclipse brings an end to ‘the storm’, or that if the event creates a storm or brings one to a head, it will quickly ‘clear up’. The Lunar eclipse promises to reveal the reasons for the storm or upset via a ‘clear’ outlook and the perspective offered by distance through time, useful even when that distance is the immediate past.

A Summer Shower, by Charles Edward Perugini 1888 {{PD}}

A Summer Shower, by Charles Edward Perugini 1888 {{PD}}

The AstroEssence of the 17th and 18th, and the Lunar Essence of the Full Moon in Aquarius: Leading up to the Full Moon we are faced with a question: Are we changed by Love, Money, or secrets revealed about values or assets, or are we the agent of change in areas of Love, in finances, in the keeping or spilling of secrets, or in recognizing a change in our values, and so changing how we relate? Since Earth signs are involved (Venus trine Pluto), we should expect a material, or at least tangible, impact; we may be ‘undone’, with some Venusian aspect of life devastated, destroyed, or transformed (don’t panic, this may be a good thing!) This fundamental change sets the stage for the conclusion, end, or completion associated with the Full Moon, 2:25 AM PDT of the 18th at 25 Aquarius 51. This is a near miss, an almost eclipse, and the impact we feel may be as much the Venus-Pluto aspect that precedes the Lunar event (as it leaves us reeling and yet unsure of what hit us) as it is the pull of the Full Moon itself.

This Full Moon, along with Uranus, forms the base for a Finger of God, with apex Jupiter. Should we also include Mercury, which is conjoined Jupiter and within orb of Uranus, but not the Full Moon? It’s a tough call, but I’m inclined to say Yes, as proximity to the other elements of the Finger means Mercurial energy will enter in some form–it just may not be what it seems. That is, we may believe we have come by rational means to a concluding belief, decision to expand, teach, or learn, or concerning a social role (Jupiter)–but the mind may simply be a means of translating our perceptions at the level of Higher Mind (Uranus) that is revealed through events of this Aquarian FM. This suggests it may be Higher Mind inspired feeling (Aquarius Moon) that is really running the show, not the cogitations of our limited, trapped-in-three-dimensions brains. Awareness of this will make us more open to spontaneity and give us confidence in our own choices (both Uranus in Aries) and this in turn allows a more attuned experience than does being overly-focused on our thinking and the illusion of control this inevitably gives.

Too, let’s note the way Chiron is caught at the midpoint of the Finger’s base; since the opposition with Jupiter is separating, the implication may be that the dynamic of the Finger begins with a wound, or with an instance of healing, that then spurs the Higher Mind understanding that melds with the FM event to offer that Jupiterian result.

The Full Moon is also apex to a loose Fist of God (or Thor’s Hammer, for you Vikings) with base of Vesta and Hygeia. This may take us further back in time, to where an instance or pattern of not honoring our health (the Cardinal square between Vesta and Hygeia) helps bring about the Full Moon event–which, as you know, is likely to be related to matters of the House where the Full Moon falls.

A novile is formed by the Full Moon to Pluto, and the Sun/ Earth-Moon axis squares Sedna, creating a T-square. A sense of rebellion from what is instinctual may combine with a deep urge toward destruction and change–this makes a kind of engine for the configurations to run on, generating some deep conflict and energizing our embrace of change. We may reject or find unacceptable our usual, unprocessed response, and the conflict this engenders, along with an advantageous glimpse of what things might be like with the upsetting factors gone, eliminated, or reformed, is enough to make all the rest spring into action.

And now we need to examine the elephant in the room. Her name is Pallas, and she’s conjoined the Full Moon in Aquarius. This suggests that everything involved with the Full Moon is a measure or test of our wisdom and practicality, as well as our skills and ability to apply them. This theme will loom large, and yet we won’t necessarily be seeing events, feelings, urges, and our responses to them as a test-taking or assessment–that only comes later, when the conclusion that is unavoidable with a Full Moon event makes it clear we wound up where we are because of what we consider smart, what we know, and how practical our ultimate orientation.

The Sabian symbol for 26 Aquarius (remember, we read up) is, ‘A Garage Man Testing A Car’s Battery With A Hydrometer’. This emphasizes the mechanism of testing, which we’ve already discussed. A battery is Uranian, while the hydrometer points toward the importance of feeling and so the Water signs involved: Chiron in Pisces, and one part of the Fist base, in Cancer. Both these signs are volatile emotionally, at least in part because the barriers between the individual and the Collective/ Others is blurred, even as we ‘test’ it from our own unique expressions of Will and viewpoint (Uranus in Aries). This could imply that if we are having a hard time processing our own feelings surrounding this FM, we may divert our emotions into a Big Picture expression, one that allows us to express but doesn’t risk quite so much emotional exposure, even to ourselves.

We also look at the Sun’s Sabian with a Full Moon, simply because it is the origin of all light, and so enables perception. ‘After The Heavy Storm, A Rainbow’. So, whatever troubles are stirred at this time, we can be assured it’s for the good, or at the very least, that it will all work out positively.

The only aspects not addressed by the FM are Venus’ contra-parallel to Zeus and parallel to the North Node; these add a flavor of drama, wherein relationships, values, or finances push back on our ambitions, and where we struggle to reconcile wants with maintenance of what we care about. It’s easy to see that this will add tension to the feeling nature, and again make us work to figure things out, rather than allowing Higher Mind to possess us for a time.

(Perfecting on respective days: Venus trine Pluto/ Pallas sesq Hygeia, Venus contra-parallel Zeus and parallel NN, Sun sq Sedna)

Odilon Redon - L'oeuf 1884 {{PD}}

Odilon Redon – L’oeuf 1884 {{PD}}

The word image for both days is a peeled, hard-boiled egg. We’re always talking about ‘potential’, especially in terms of our own lives and our own creativity. An egg is potential itself, but hard-boiling it captures potential and turns it into solid mass; it is what it is, at that moment–there’s no more room for development. The events of this Full Moon may show us that certain things can no longer remain (at least in our minds) in that state of potential; they will have already hardened, taken shape, and so must be accepted, used, dealt with as they are.

For those born with the Sun at 25 Leo: speaking of potential, you are fairly bursting with it–but what you need to know is that making the most of it won’t come easily: you will be tempted to fight every instinct and the deep, rhythmic primordial knowledge of life itself as it attempts to guide and inform you. Why would you resist that? It could be that you’ve come to believe too strongly in your own individuality; it’s time to acknowledge that there are forces out there bigger than you, and that they want to help. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

Olaus Magnus 1555 {{PD}}

For those born with the Sun at 26 Leo: a lot of things have come to an end recently, and you move into a new emotional ‘day’, with all the optimism that can offer. You’ve learned a great deal; we could say you’ve become wise, from all you’ve experienced. It’s time to take what you know and apply it in the smartest way possible; all that you know will coalesce to create a kind of ‘magic touch’ that, with even minimal effort, will manifest exactly what you’re aiming for. Good luck, Leo, and Happy Birthday!

Let’s just say, we’ve got our sh*t together, but the social order just isn’t supporting us. We know just what we should change, we are feeling centered and sure of our power as individuals and as unique Beings, and yet . . . our ambitions and desires are squelched within the social arena, one way or another. We might also be short-circuited by those who put their own expansion first, or who feel we must ‘learn’ something (or really, probably acknowledge their supremacy in some area we have aspirations in) before we proceed with the opportunity that is right in front of us–but their reality doesn’t have to be ours.

As long as we are willing to align our behavior with our highest values and standards, to ‘invest’ in relationships, and to act as stewards of our assets (that is, to use what we have and what is under our control with consciousness of the implications of our choices), we can trust our own thinking concerning ambition fulfillment–and go forward, joyfully, from there (Pluto qnx Vesta, Uranus conjoined Ceres, Jupiter contra-parallel Zeus, Venus trine Pallas, Merc trine Zeus)

Tip for the current Moon in Aquarius: if you’re puzzled by another’s emotional reaction, find they (or you) don’t seem to be having one, or see yourself or another rationalizing what otherwise might be upsetting, then you’re witnessing the influence of Moon in Aquarius. Just remember that the most common result is confusing feeling and thinking, and you’ll do well in sorting it all out.

Today’s word image is a gardener breaking the peace of a beautiful summer day with his weed whacker. Of course, the person or thing creating the disturbance, symbolized by this image, will be different for each person. We have to ask ourselves a couple of questions about what might be bothering us: is this merely an irritant (to be ignored) or is this a serious disturbance to us? Is this thing that’s bothering us actually the byproduct of necessary action? Is it simply someone making a lot of noise, for their own reasons? And do we have the power to stop it? If the answer to that last question is No, then we need to find a way to live with whatever is getting under our skin–so defining it, by seeing just what it may be accomplishing (or not) is a good start.

New Moon in Aquarius 2016 Higher Understanding

Dante Gabriel Rossetti 'Holy Grail' 1873 {{PD}}

Dante Gabriel Rossetti ‘Holy Grail’ 1873 {{PD}}

The New Moon in Aquarius (also known as Lunar New Year) falls on the 8th at 6:38 AM Pacific time at 19 Aquarius 15. The NM forms close semi-sextiles to Venus and Chiron, with only 9 and 5 minutes difference, respectively, and so falls at the midpoint of their sextile; this on its own suggests the New Moon brings the healing power (Chiron) of Love (Venus) through intellectual understanding or through a greater knowledge of the reasons behind the facts (Aquarius). What’s born here can heal, can be a conduit for Love at its most pristine and potent, and can offer an elevated level of comprehension in terms of the ‘higher function’ of events–but that’s not the entire story.

The New Moon is also sextile Vesta, in wide quincunx to Jupiter, trines Black Moon Lilith-Zeus, and squares Mars. So, we may have two general scenarios: either the higher understanding and Love are reached through a negatively-perceived event, or through a positively perceived one. That is, we may act in reaction to some aggression, or as the conflict-initiating entity ourselves, or in reaction to a restrictive or demanding social or fact-based situation (likely in trying to fulfill ambitions or to rectify an injustice, with our choices guided by our highest values or the needs of the mate or home front), and this either flows from the NM healing event, or creates it.

That’s the difficult thing: the NM event may soothe us, or it may offer that healing and in the process create a stressful circumstance in reaction. There’s no way to know ahead of time, but we can look to the House in the natal chart where this NM falls; knowing the current circumstances of House matters will clue you in to what might be involved, and whether the initiating event is a negative or positive one.

The Sabian goes right along with the healing nature of the New Moon, ‘A Large White Dove Bearing A Message’ Expect to learn something; expect to gain an appreciation of the circumstances of peace (and this may come through war). In particular, we can heal a relationship that may be suffering. This comes through our own willingness to expand our understanding, to apply Love to all our connections, to accept peace–and that latter may be difficult for some of us to do.

The Aquarius Full Moon July 2015: Reviving Ideals

What has become stiff, false, unreal must be awaken and revitalized. Henri Rousseau - 'La zingara addormentata' 1920 {{PD}}

What has become stiff, false, unreal must be awakened and revitalized. Henri Rousseau – ‘La zingara addormentata’ 1920 {{PD}}

Just a side note to my readers: Blue Moons are neither astrological nor astronomical events, and so they hold no significance in these arenas; they are only a ‘thing’ because two Full Moons happen to fall in a (man-made) calendar month.

The Full Moon occurs on 31 July 2015 at 3:42 AM Pacific time at 7 Aquarius 55. Unless we allow an orb of more than 4 degrees for aspects, which we won’t, we get no contacts for this Moon. That’s okay–it places all the emphasis, and pinpoints the culmination, to matters of the House axis in the natal chart across which this Full Moon lies. We have an ending, reach a peak or goal, a revelation or understanding, in the area of the chart where Aquarius falls. We can look to the opposite House, the one that holds the Leo Sun, for some sense of where this came from, for explanation. Since the Sun is the originating light, we should be able to draw a line from those Leonine or House related circumstances that led to our Aquarian event, culmination, or ending; in the beginnings, we see the seeds of our result.

The Sabian for the Sun, the originating light, is ‘A Communist Activist Spreading His Revolutionary Ideals’. As individuals, at some point in life we in some way rebelled from what was and declared our new goals and ideals; this is what has spurred developments along the path to today, toward the specific result we get at the Full Moon. Our own radical choices, our own idealism, our own need to be different, apart, independent, modern, or ‘new’ has compelled a particular kinetic energy through time, and here we see the outcome. We may note that the Full Moon occurs just before Venus dips back into Leo; there may be more than a little connection between this Full Moon outcome and what went down 8 years ago. What happens is no one’s responsibility but our own, born in our declaration of our values, and our insistence on letting everyone know what embodies our ideal.

The Full Moon Sabian is: ‘Beautifully Gowned Wax Figures On Display’. The image is a little eerie, as wax can have a hauntingly translucent quality that resembles skin, but skin seen in dreams or airbrushed to downy opacity. This offers the figures a kind of mocking resemblance to living Beings, but in no way can they be confused with humans–and that may be the point: real life and living isn’t something done for display, isn’t about being ‘beautifully gowned’ to no point or effect, and this Full Moon may show us where our own version of living for the way it looks must end.

The implication is that something unusual, idealistic, radical we chose in the past led us, no matter our intentions, to a stance or way of Being that is artificial, inflexible, that is for show only–and we must let it go now. In some way what we found so perfect in the past has become something fake; we must reconnect with the inspired, wild origins of what has become lifeless, and give it life once again.

ESA/PACS & SPIRE Consortium/HOBYS Key Programme Consortia

The New Moon occurs at 3:47 PM PST of the 18th at 29 Aquarius 59: ‘Witness to Our Evolution’. Even stretching our usual tight orbs to 4 degrees, we get no contacts, possibly symbolic of the way it’s all about the Moon itself, its last minute in Aquarius meeting with the Sun signaling the end of an era, particularly in terms of the intellect’s capacity to process the new; what comes next is the ability to absorb it. We do find this NM balanced by semi-square between the Arian Uranus and the Capricornian Pluto, suggesting that what is born at the NM moment strikes the perfect, modern ‘blend’ of the Uranian and the Plutonian that has been trying to find equilibrium through these repeated squares. Final perfection between the two occurs on March 16th, with the promise that, even if we don’t understand what is conceived now at the NM, we will understand it by the time the square perfects once again.

The New Moon acts as witness to our evolution; it shows us that we are poised on the brink of a massive shift in consciousness, as individuals and as a species. These tipping points aren’t easy; some resist, dig in to old ways of being and seeing, and reach for previously discarded or discredited methods of interacting out of fear and a sense of disorientation. It’s up to each of us to accept the change that presents itself willingly; otherwise we fall into some form of mindless resistance, and so fall behind.

"Monsigneur Love" by Thomas Cooper Gotch - {{PD}}

“Monsigneur Love” by Thomas Cooper Gotch – {{PD}}

15 February some serious, serious power issues are front and center, and it’s up to each of us whether this will be expressed as coercion, a clash, or a negotiation. Territory is being staked out, even if it doesn’t appear that this is so; people are trying to establish a foothold, even a realm, and the values they express while doing so are more than a little driven by their ‘blind spot’ issues. That means they’ll be clear about what they want, but not about the real reasons they want it. (Perfecting Today: Pluto conjunct Ceres, Earth quincunx Mars, Venus sextile Sedna)

And a little Lunar essence, for the 16th:

6 AM PST of the 16th the Capricorn Moon sextiles Venus and trines Sedna. If there’s any point today when you can trust the emotional and intuitive prompts as much as the instinctive nature, it’s at this point; in fact, you may be pointed in the direction of Love and/ or Money. Noon the Moon is sextile Mars and quincunx Earth. This is an interesting window when we may make choices and act successfully, but without realizing how the material environment will adjust or need to be adjusted as a consequence. Just be aware that you won’t entirely see the potential outcomes ahead of time. Void begins at 12:47 PM PST; the Moon enters Aquarius at 4:14 PM Pacific time. 8 PM PST the Moon conjuncts Mercury. The mind may race with higher vibration concepts; bring them down-to-Earth (and make them relate-able) by translating through the emotional lens. 11 PM PST the Moon sextiles Saturn, connecting us to the reality situation through attention to our emotional reactions. This can inform our thinking in a very positive way.

These are excerpts from the now unavailable-to-new-subscribers ECLIPSE. See my books here. Thanks, and have a great week!

We’ll be heading into the monthly Dark of the Moon period midway through this weekend; normally this is a time for introspection, contemplation, and being away from the world, in some sense. This allows for a kind of gestation that ‘births’ ideas, viewpoints, and experiences as the New Moon unfolds. We can’t always lock ourselves away, and the resulting dissonance between the need to go inward and the demands of the external can be jarring and leave us exhausted–so we look, wrongly, for relief with the return of the illuminated Moon. The New Moon renews only in the sense that it begins a cycle; it’s much more about re-emergence into a more active role in the world than it is about re-generation. Even though everything, including our own cells, is stimulated to grow under the pull of a New Moon, if we have not been allowed the needed rest period before hand . . . you see my point: without an adequate time of rest, the New Moon can stress, rather than refresh.

New Moon in Aquarius January 20th at 5:13 AM Pacific time at 00 Aquarius 08

Look to the matters of the House where the New Moon falls for the life area or subjects of the ‘birth’ within our reality picture. The Sabian is, ‘An Old Adobe Mission In California’. Being from California, I have been to many of these, and I love them, in spite of the uglier facets of what they once stood for—now they are only gardens and chapels, often oases of green in places that are crowded and topped over with concrete. The symbol echoes the repeating of the early Moon degree, with each mission just one in a chain strung up and down California—and this suggests that however these new beginnings (related to all the early degree New Moons of Fall and Winter) we have been seeing came about, even if the circumstances were ugly or inhumane, what they will become with time and personal growth are spots of mental or emotional respite (the Aquarian Moon), places that make a clear statement about what we should keep from the past, and what leave behind.

26 November actions and choices follow our highest values, and dealings with both money and relationships come from a position of personal strength and sureness in our unique worth—and yet what we do somehow comes from hurt, a kind of ‘making up for the past’ impulse that, for all our success, may leave us a little sad, and may subtly undermine our choices. We can avoid this ‘past echo’ effect if we can free the mind from any residual embarrassment over expressing our own uniqueness, and if we can avoid falling into the delusion that we are in complete, conscious control of our lives and the direction they take. (Mars parallel Vesta, Venus square Chiron, conjunct Ceres, and trine Uranus, Mercury sesquiquadrate Uranus, Neptune square the Sun-Earth axis)
1 AM PST of the 26th the Capricorn Moon trines Sedna. We may be able to successfully combine intuition, emotional perceptions, and instinct to firm up and make final some important choices or agreements to our advantage–do it if you can. 5 AM PST the Moon sextiles Saturn and catches Vesta at the midpoint. We may find ourselves swayed heavily toward supporting a reality that respects what we care about–choices made at this point, then, can’t help but be good ones. 7 AM PST the Moon sextiles Mercury; thoughts follow feelings, feelings follow thoughts. 10:30 AM PST the Moon quincunxes Black Moon Lilith in the 29th degree. We may meet sudden emotional crisis in the form of things too long ignored. Now that you know, don’t ignore them! Void begins at 11:11 AM PST; the Moon enters Aquarius at 11:23 AM PST. 6:30 PM PST the Moon trines Earth. Surroundings are likely to be hospitable–if they’re not, make them that way.

Fire Grand Trine Venus-Ceres/ Uranus/ Juno=Efforts that empower, show individual uniqueness and originality, and that draw on one’s natural roles or on Nature herself will be highly successful at this time. Pour your fire into a form that reflects you.

Today’s image is a large knife with an oddly bent tip. Does this imperfection ruin the knife? No, it may not matter at all, depending on how we want to use the knife. Don’t overemphasize in your own mind those imperfections we all have and are aware of–they don’t, and can’t, stop you from doing what you were made for.
