astrology, Good Day To . . ., Jupiter Direct, The Astro Essence

‘Jupiter’ By Hans Thoma {{PD}}

The 12th Is A Good Day To . . . see that the powers-that-be are offering you something good–it might take a little effort, a little hard work, but you’re being dealt into the game–and to refuse to play, for whatever reason, will be like shooting yourself in the foot–you can blame it on someone else, but you picked up the gun and pulled the trigger. It’s a day when you really don’t want any of the typical excuses we as individuals use to avoid engagement with others, that stop us uncritically applying ourselves, or that make us feel righteous in withdrawing from the social expectations or larger public arena, from ruining what could be a genuine and highly fruitful opportunity. We have to be ready to accept new ideas into our thought-bubble, to adapt to fresh information or surprises, to proactively shape the aftermath of an accident or revelation to make the most of it–but doing so will benefit us in large and largely unanticipated ways.

So much of this is connected to Jupiter’s turnaround in Capricorn, freeing up the generous impulses of those empowered by the status quo, benefiting those who follow the rules (or those who previously balked at them, and now find the rules are changing in their favor). The first aspect Jupiter will move forward to form is a sextile to Neptune, signaling that it’s the season for creative endeavor, especially when that’s centered in hard work and serious effort, but also that it may be easy to succumb to the fabled ‘alternative facts’ if we aren’t committed to reality in an unbiased way.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

Full Moon in Sagittarius + Forecast for the 9th: Mother Ceres Explains It All

By Alice Pike Barney – 1901 {{PD}}

On the 9th Jupiter stations direct in Libra, at the midpoint of a Fire trine from Vesta to Black Moon Lilith. A Jupiter in Libra turnaround signals a turnaround of mind, maybe even a retraction of or reversal of ‘the facts’; relative to the other body and point (for we must remember, Black Moon Lilith is a calculated point, a not-thing that we nevertheless feel and respond to), this could suggest a shift in attitude involving what we honor and what we’ve denied or avoided. We could quite suddenly see the opportunity that comes from a more optimistic viewpoint or in pursuing positive, rather than angry or punitive, interactions with those who may have angered us. Potentially, the facts may not just change our minds, but change our values, what we dedicate our time, energy, and attention to. This could be a much more momentous change than the average planetary direction, at least as it may lay the foundation for much larger or more sweeping changes in our fundamental beliefs and way of thinking–and this may come in the wake of Full Moon events.

Other indicators suggest we may come to Jupiterian change (shifts in belief, or the gaining of optimism or seeing opportunity) through hurt, and may resist reformation, seeing it as ‘not us’–but this would be short-sighted, particularly in terms of how this may prompt profitable action–so willingly go with it, if you can (Chiron sesq Vesta, Venus sxt Mars, Sun qnx Pluto)

Full Moon occurs at 6:10 AM PDT at 18 Sagittarius 53. The Full Moon sits midway between retro Saturn and Black Moon Lilith; it also semi-sextiles Pluto (which minor aspect we’re counting because they are only three minutes off exact), opposes Ceres (placing the asteroid in a separating conjunction to the Sun), sextiles Zeus, and sesquiquadrates Venus in her own sign of Taurus. A Full Moon, as we know, is an event of culmination, an end to a sequence or situation, and in Sagittarius it is often an event that offers knowledge, in some form–and of course with endings, we can often see the seeds of new beginnings, just by knowing in what area of life we are experiencing a conclusion; something must take its place, as Mother Ceres abhors a vacuum. Look for the arena of change in the natal House where the FM falls, with likely secondary locations matters of the House opposing the FM, the House ruled by the Moon, and if you have natal placements or points at roughly 3 degrees Scorpio, that placement will be the apex of a Finger of God involving Mars and Venus, implying that actions taken in Love or Money will bring a manifestation of the apex energy–and if you have a natal placement or point at 3 Leo, you are looking at a Fist involving Venus, apex the Full Moon, which may imply difficulties in Love or Money, relative to the natal energy, coming to a head at the FM.

We already know from other indicators, including the Jupiter direction, that things, especially our beliefs, are prone to change at this time; the FM suggests that this change is a natural one, no matter how unnatural it may at first seem. It’s really a manifestation of what we have learned, or the connections we have made, in pursuit of our ambitions and desires, and the result will at least in part be one that requires adjustment to the material/ asset situation and/ or to the way relationships affect reward or remuneration, or even what is shared or can be counted on. Somehow the material situation changes, and whether this comes as a result of other change, or brings about other change, we come out the other side seeing things quite a bit differently than we have. We become aware of what we’ve hidden from ourselves, ignored or denied, or we see our own anger, that may have been hidden from our conscious mind, and this, more than anything else, may be the root of the changes we see.

Though not directly part of the FM picture, there’s a Finger of God with base of Vesta-Zeus, apex Neptune, that may point to difficulties and distractions that will function to draw our conscious energy away from the Full Moon scenario–and this may be directly related to the Jupiter direction as it calls up our ideals and creative energies as they play out through both values and ambitions. The imagination may be alight with what we desire–the real question may be, Is this in line with our values? So do we really want it, or not? Inevitably, this may be a result of, or spring from, the Full Moon events, and has the potential when combined with those energies of propelling a significant creative event forward in a big way.

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘Pelicans Menaced By The Behavior And Refuse Of Men Seek Safer Areas For Bringing Up Their Young’. This echoes the opposition to the Full Moon of the asteroid Ceres, with the Sun pulling away from their union suggesting both the history of habitat destruction and between species animosities of the past and the only solution Nature may have, to get away from polluting and destructive humans. In the context of the Full Moon, it may suggest that real-world circumstances (Saturn) and the irritation they cause (Black Moon Lilith) may propel events forward–and in the process, affect the asset picture and the beliefs.

We also look at the Sabian for the Sun for a Full Moon, as it is the source of the light which creates the phenomenon in the first place: ‘A Large Archaic Volume Reveals A Traditional Wisdom’. This promises certain Truths will become obvious, certain wisdom shown in the form of previous experience or knowledge (the ‘Tradition’ of the symbol–Saturn in Sagittarius=real-world knowledge + Ceres in Gemini=thinking about what’s natural). This revelation/ realization may be the spark that starts the entire change of the Full Moon, shifting our material circumstances, and/ or our beliefs, by the end.

The rest of the week will follow in another post. Donate to your favorite blogs and bloggers, read, and have a great one!

There are pairs, and there are pears, and there are ‘Pears and Oranges in a Bowl’ – William Glackens 1915 {{PD}}

With Jupiter opposed Neptune, knowledge and ‘the facts’ face off against illusion, against what might be–and if we aren’t truly clear on who we are and in our connection to reality (and how can we be during Merc retro in Air?) then we may come out the worse for it. This aspect initiates an even more serious gap between those who believe in the rational and those who cling to fantasy–and the problem is that both sides see themselves as the rational ones! Jupiter in Virgo, moving into trine with Pluto, quincunxing Vesta and sesquiquadrate Ceres, tells us that the devil is discovered via the details, in critical examination that is not overly respectful of authority, and in a certain willingness to question our values and then adjust them according to what we find. If we fail to do that, we are definitely living Neptune at the moment, feet firmly planted in the fog of our own hazy reasoning. Look around: it’s Mulder and Scully, George and Gracie, Cheech and Chong, Lucy and Ethel, Bert and Ernie, Bart and Lisa, Holmes and Watson, Spongebob and Patrick, and I’m giving no hints as to which of the two in each of these pairs was the one really being realistic.

This is the only aspect for Neptune at the moment (and we’re not counting the fleeting touch of the transiting Moon); that suggests that those disconnected from reality have no touchstones, other than the Jupiterian facts, to pull them back into this dimension. When you hear an assertion, look for the reality behind it; don’t trust, verify the reality of what you believe, before making it your anthem. Normally I would say something about creative types and creativity getting a boost from this, but this time, No–a big part of true creativity is about being able to work with reality, to mold it, to see the potentials–and that’s only possible when we work with what is. We can try to turn water into wine all day, but if we don’t acknowledge that wine comes from grapes, and so must be our starting point, we’re going to serve one weak-ass beverage this evening.

Also of note: Juno and the North Node meet up at 00 Libra, showing us (if we’re paying attention) precisely how much the shaping of our future relies on our own empowerment. If you have placements within two degrees either side of this, or in hard aspect from the other Cardinals, that energy contacted will be instrumental, especially over the immediate future, in determining which way you go and how successfully you do it. Who used it best? might be the Universal question at this point, focused on your natal contacted energy.

Zeus and Venus are also sextile; should you have anything at 14-18 Virgo you have a temporary Finger of God that implies your ambitions plus relationships, finances, or values, when working together, will successfully bring about a positive expression of the Virgo energy. With Venus trining Pallas and catching Zeus at the midpoint, be smart and/ or practical about the use or role of that Venusian asset, for best results. And if you have anything at 14-18 Taurus, that becomes apex to a Finger with base of Zeus (ambition and desire) and Pallas (wisdom, practical skills), making for the obvious formula of applying wisdom to ambition creates, what, at this time? Whatever you’ve got at that point in Taurus.

Jupiter

JupiterSometimes we just need to feel that aid will come; I don’t mean that we’ll be rescued, as this is an understandable wish under many conditions, but not a healthy response to real problems, in the end. No, I mean we all need to feel, when we are in the midst of despair, that there are others who will muster their Will for us, who will say, “We can tackle it this way, we can go at it that way, and you are not alone.” Astrologically we see this most strongly in a Jupiter transit; help can come in a variety of forms: assistance from the social sphere, from those who are ‘bigger,’ from those who feel generous toward us, from those who would like to share their knowledge, educate us, or inculcate us with their religious fervor, or from those who act out a Zeus-ian role, perhaps quite literally appearing to us as if they can do anything–and of course wherever Jupiter is by House and sign in the natal chart will hint at others who may be available to help us (for instance, Jupiter in Capricorn may consistently bring authorities to our aid, while Jupiter in the 9th could suggest help from in-laws, the clergy, or one’s teachers), and in synastry those whose Jupiter touches something significant in our chart (particularly the Ascendant, Sun, Moon, chart ruler, or Venus) may assume that they are meant to help us in time of need, even to be loving and generous at all times. And, withJupiter increasingly being recognized as active at death, we must also acknowledge that the transcendence this energy offers can go beyond earthly problems, bringing under the right circumstances, perhaps, the ultimate healing.

Why talk about this? If we’re in a dark period, the one thing we need to remember is that things will change; that is the essence of hope, that there is reason to persevere, and nothing represents this better than Jupiter. If we are under pressure now, we can look to its next transit point for clues as to where relief might be found (and even if we’re not, we can see where opportunity may present itself). Now, I’m very much someone who believes that the answers are within–but, I’ve found that when we seek to do our best at the interior level, when we are oriented toward a loving stance (and it’s not enough to just avoid doing harm, we must actively meet our challenges with honesty and openness and a pure, good intent), then we often find our exterior world aligning to provide that aid or guidance or assistance we seek. Jupiter can bring a lightning bolt of inspiration, as well, of a very practical kind–bits of knowledge coalesce and in a flash we see the answer to our problem, and we can easily access the accumulated knowledge of those who came before. So, with Jupiter’s influence we can expect an array of possibilities that can expand or open up choice and alternatives, can offer the information needed to deal with things, and can offer freedom, particularly the kind that comes when we find a successful framework within which to solve our problems.

Jupiter has connection to the spirit, as well–witness the way it defines the invisible social fabric that connects us all, the way it embodies the religious spirit (giving some a framework to relate to the spiritual and to All That Is), and the way it has come to designate the greatest and most mysterious journey we’ll undertake, death. Optimism, a spiritual freedom of its own, is very much a part of the Jupiter energy. In part 2 I’ll discuss the chart of someone who embodies the Jupiter we’ve discussed here, and who has made a life work of bringing aid, both materially and spiritually, to others.

Another Installment of ‘What You’re Asking’

astrology, Capricorn, combust, Jupiter in Aquarius, Mercury retrograde, Venus

There were so many great topics this week, I’m going to be doing this in two parts, and keeping answers brief (at least for me!) First up:

Is it okay to travel when Mercury is retrograde?

Excellent question, the kind of thing we think about when we try to apply astrology to real life, and find that sometimes it gets in the way! Why would travel be prohibited? Chiefly because Mercury rules movement, transportation, and in retrograde hitches are common, so we have a smaller chance of things running smoothly at this time, in a mechanical sense, and the electrical systems of vehicles can be more testy than usual, as well. But I think the real difficulty lies in the planning and communication aspect of things; inevitably, we think we’ve planned carefully for our moving day, only to find our route is blocked by a three-hour parade, or we agree to be at that place by the thing where we went that time, for lunch, and we think that means 12, and our meetee thinks lunch starts at 1. Where mechanical hold-ups can be addressed, and even anticipated, with a little care, it’s the thought processes behind our travel that may suffer, and upon which we can have least conscious effect.

Because of this, I wouldn’t recommend travel, particularly the kind where we’re at the mercy of a form of transport where we are not in charge (such as an airline or train) or where we’re at the whim of someone who may speed along well ahead of schedule and miss us (like a bus). Of course, there’s no reason to stop living life, just be prepared to deal with glitches and difficulties as they arise; typically the biggest problem is delay, and in this case, a little flexibility in expectations goes a long way. Best methodology for coping during travel on Mercury retrograde: use your intuition (Venus) in the moment; where the mind is muddled on the retrograde, the intuition is right on, and can, if accessed, make the trip an easy, and sense-filled, delight.

For more on activity during Mercury retrograde, see this https://juliedemboski.wordpress.com/re-examining-mercury-retrograde/

What is the combust degree for each planet?

Since we measure combustion from only one source, the Sun, all planets and bodies are considered combust within the same frame: 17 minutes from exactitude to 8.5 degrees, and other bodies cannot be combust each other–if we say “Mars is combust Venus,” well, we’re speaking gibberish! Closer than 17 minutes to the Sun is cazimi, a condition of fusion that is believed to greatly strengthen a planet. For more on the whys of all this, see https://juliedemboski.wordpress.com/mercury-combust-and-retrograde/

What are the likely health effects of Jupiter in Aquarius?

This question is highly individual, depending on how Jupiter and Aquarius are hooked into the health picture of the natal chart. We can venture a few guesses, though, mainly on what may be more susceptible at this time; for example, Jupiter rules the liver, and Aquarius is a fixed Air sign–under the ‘right’ circumstances in an individual’s chart, this could signal a hepatic embolism, or CNS damage (Aquarius) that comes from or causes liver damage; we might even see the pain of the intellectual situation spurring some toward drink; or when we look for society-wide effects, with Aquarius ruling the higher functions, and Jupiter symbolizing expansion and the social order, advances in autism studies and therapies are possible, or perhaps we’ll see a resurgence of interest in ‘remote viewing’ experimentation, or in good old mental health programs, and we may see fads in the direction of outdoor recreation, perhaps involving Jupiter’s big animals, such as equestrian events, or for international events, such as chess–or, Mathlympics, anyone?

How do I seduce a Venus in Capricorn?

Hey, is this the same person who asks about Capricorn every week? Haven’t you given up on Cappy yet? Or are Capricorns the latest irresistible sign, with their frowns and rules and big bulging wallets. Well, no matter, let’s see what we can do here. Venus tells us what appeals to someone; it explains their tastes in a sensual way, what’s pleasing, what’s appealing. We take a chance when we look only at Venus’ sign, though, as contacts can tell a much more effective story: Venus in Scorpio says they want a little mystery, but if that Venus is connected to Pluto, we might see a preference for dangerous sex (sex with strangers, sex on cliffs, sex in public), a taste for S/ M, or just someone who associates (sadly) pain, punishment, or destruction with love (and not even with sex, at that). So, Venus in Capricorn suggests the appeal of security, of rules and ‘safe’ words (in bed, or at a party, like when you say in the presence of your partner, “I love cupcakes!” when you desperately want to leave) and Cap finds the beauty in order and constraint–you can flirt with Venus in Capricorn by simply lifting an eyebrow, crisply serving a summons, or folding his or her laundry, really really neatly.

Seduction, however, is another matter; since seduction is about persuading, in essence gaining control of another, or at least drawing them to do your bidding, it is the antithesis of what Venus in Capricorn is about: he or she is in control of the sensual, of love and sex, thank you very much, and the goaty Venus will resist (and resent) mightily any attempt to connect that smacks of you having more control than they. So, the seduction scenario of Venus in Cap isn’t promising, because if they even get an inkling that they’re being seduced, they will bound up the rocky ledge of indifference and cold shoulder you until you go away. So, I’m sending all who are interested over to the experts at Sasstrology http://sasstrology.com/2008/09/astrology-of-kink-complex-capricorn.html  Or, for relationship analysis that gets into the whys and wherefores of attraction http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com  Happy goat herding!

More to come!

Jupiter into Aquarius: Testing the Social Order

02 Friday Jan 2009

astrology, Jupiter

The Aquarian vibe can take us by surprise; at a personal level, this will almost certainly be highly dependent on what Jupiter will aspect in terms of natal placements as it passes through Aquarius (please, don’t ask me to interpret the meaning for you personally, either in the comments or at my email, unless I specifically solicit this–those days are over, for my own sanity! –consultations are available at very low cost–and this is why they are so low cost, so that everyone can afford them–please see WANT MORE? for details). If you happen to have placements very early (in the first 2 degrees) of any sign, though, you will receive an initial effect that lets you know just how thoroughly the social ‘background’ to your personal situation is changing. For once this effect is not reliant on transiting Jupiter being in hard aspect to the natal placement; it is much more about Jupiter’s ‘new’ character casting its big, unavoidable shadow onto specific portions of your nativity. For everyone, whether Jupiter moves into Aquarius and aspects something or not, the place where this occurs in the natal chart will be a symbolic point of upheaval and change, bringing revolution of one kind or another, your own mini-Age of Aquarius.

Jupiter is ushered in to Aquarius at 6:49 AM PST on January 5th. Think back to late January of 1997, when Jupiter made its last foray into the sign of the Waterbearer (but keep in  mind, despite the symbol for the sign involving water, this is a Fixed Air sign–and thus mentally oriented, and a wee bit determined/ stubborn!) At that time it was on its way to conjunction with Uranus, and had recently conjuncted the Sun, Ceres, and Neptune; this suggests an atmospheric picture that was highly charged with the spirit of change in the name of a new order, of rebellion that offers a fresh perspective, of challenges to and Self-adoption of authority’s role and privileges, and that served as a major outlet for imagination and inspiration (with the added possibility that major delusion could’ve been adopted at this time, as well). astrological-signs-5

Now Jupiter enters Aquarius when the Moon is Void (at 29 Capricorn 28)  and it squares Vesta at 01 Taurus 00. To me this suggests we will be subjected to a sudden shift in the atmosphere that may frustratingly lead nowhere, or that could spawn unforseen events (especially emotional ones) of an Aquarian nature, that leap forward as if cut from whole cloth. The home front, the sex life, and all that we hold sacred may conflict in some important way with our social role(s) or the social milieu in which we find ourselves; the prevailing attitudes that surround us may all at once have a very different tenor than they possessed just a day before. The primary effect, then, may be more disorienting than anything else, a feeling of ‘There’s no going back’ in some important area of our lives (likely represented by the House in which the move occurs, or possibly by matters of the House Jupiter rules natally). The changes may test the social order as you currently perceive it, and maybe even challenge you to re-define what, precisely, you want on the home front, in the sex life, and what you will be willing to dedicate your life to (Vesta effects).

And now I’m testing the social order, as this blog is intended primarily as a place for me to express and observe on the subject of astrology, and as such content is determined solely at my discretion: AS OF JANUARY 2ND, I will no longer be allowing comments to stand that contain Self-promoting links or addresses, or same of any kind–NO EXCEPTIONS. For those who are actually commenting or sharing based on the material, this will be no problem; for those who have attempted to use this blog to promote themselves and their businesses, I would ask that you respect my choice not to subject my readers to your ads. If they find you scintillating simply from what you observe and share in your comment, you can use your full name and they can and will google you, and you will find your audience; you are more than welcome here as a commenter, sharing thoughts and theories. In my view, instituting this policy is better than ending comment ability altogether, as some beleaguered bloggers have done. I find this intermediate step necessary to stop a growing wave of opportunists who are taking more and more of my time as I am required to judge and moderate each entry, and I have been, at times, erring on the side of inclusion, despite the fact that I find such advertising offensive. To all who are interested, please continue to visit, and comment, but please understand that what I allow, and what I give away, on this site are my choice alone.

What You’re Asking Vol. 2

astrology

There were some excellent topics searched for this week; let’s get started!

Can I get a job if Jupiter is transiting my 1st?

My first thought here was, why wouldn’t you? Jupiter would, barring other circumstances, bring opportunity to you as you contact the world. The main, job-destroying possibility with the planet of expansion and abundance moving through your 1st might be seated in the personality; since 1st House traits will be exaggerated as Jupiter moves through, seeking a job where your personality might need to be downplayed may put you at a disadvantage. For instance, if you’re being considered to model clothing, the designer wouldn’t want a model who takes attention from his or her designs. This isn’t about you doing anything in particular; it’s about others’ perceptions of the persona you use to meet life. And, if you suffer from any unfortunate personality ‘tics’ these could be overblown, and be off-putting to an employer–a normally harmless tendency to chatter when nervous, for example, could become voluminous and signal (incorrectly) to a prospective employer that you lack Self-control. So, the best ‘defense’ for a Jupiter 1st House transit when seeking employment is a keen awareness of how you come across–in which case some brutally honest friends and a video camera might be your biggest help in interview preparation.

What is the effect of Mercury combust the Sun on career?

This is a great question, and also impossible to answer with any specificity without an individual chart, so we’ll look at what we can surmise generally. Combustion is when a planet is between 17 minutes and 8.5 degrees from conjunction with the Sun (less than 17 minutes is another condition, cazimi, and a condition extending out from 8.5 degrees is known as Under the Sunbeams). It’s not unusual for Mercury to sit combust the Sun, considering how closely they travel together. Opinions on span of influence and on effects vary widely; in my view, combustion suggests that the Soul (Sun) is ‘in charge’ of the communication function (Mercury), rather than, as in a typical conjunction, which functions as a fusing of the two energies. Because of this, much of the effect will depend on the sign in which this occurs. I’ve seen combustion result, in the case of Mercury, in a scenario where the essence and manner of the Sun seems to override the purity of the communication function. For instance, if the combustion occurs in Libra, the individual may exhibit an emphasis in communication on relationships and relating that takes a highly subjective view, where the person is constantly measuring her or his communications and the impact they have on others–it’s as if Mercury can’t  function in any objective way–the Sun’s bias is always there, coloring everything said, done, thought, and processed. This can, on the other hand, make for Soul’s ability to communicate itself that is eloquent and very true to the individual’s intent–so in some careers this can be a great asset. We can’t forget that the Houses ruled by Mercury and the Sun will play a big role in delineating where this expression (or its lack) will show up.

How do Capricorns show they’re into you?

Wait a minute–weren’t you here last week? (See previous post, ‘What You’re Asking’). Capricorn, Capricorn, Capricorn–you’re the star right now, as the Sun prepares to enter your territory, and this seeker wants to know how you show your interest. I’ve got one word to describe a Capricorn who wants to get to know you: serious! You’ll likely get a lighter, initial approach (Capricorn will play it cool, if Venus sits in Aquarius, or act the bon vivant if Venus is in Sagittarius) but she or he will quickly get down to brass tacks. The primitive types will try to push you to commit immediately, and may even try clubbing you and dragging you into their rocky hideaway; run from this one at all costs. The healthy ones are cautious. Because they take even the most casual commitment so seriously, Capricorn may eye you for awhile before approaching–but when Cappy makes his or her mind up, there’s no mistaking their goal of making things solid, establishing rules and boundaries, and building a little love nest together. You’ll notice Capricorn when they’re finally ready for a relationship; Cappy will be the one standing ramrod straight at the back of the room, grim-faced and determined, clutching a bouquet of posies, hoping to win your attention, and your love.

Bonus hint on keeping Capricorn’s love: never ever ever embarrass them.

In what way is fame connected to the 5th House?

Signatures within the chart indicating fame are as individual as the persons who attain this, and are so intimately connected to the reasons they’ve attained that fame that it’s impossible to suggest ‘fame indicators’ ahead of time. My personal feeling is that people tend to make much too much of the 5th House in terms of potentials for creativity, which so many of us see as vital to positive attainments of fame; the 5th is below the horizon, a personal area, and in that way is indicative of seed, of potential, to some extent–but seed needs water, sunlight, the right conditions, to avoid attack from pests and disease–and all these ‘growing’ conditions are found elsewhere, and tell the real story of 5th House potentials. As well, creativity is found in many other areas of the chart, so I see the 5th as a repository of mostly unconscious creativity, that ‘leaks’ out via the connections to other points; after all, creativity is a very vague concept–without shape, form, impetus it’s really just a notion, a wisp of idea with no innate push to become concrete–other energies drive that. Think of 5th House potentials as you do the potential to have children, another 5th House subject, and you’ll see how much energy and intent are needed to turn creative potential into creative accomplishment.

That said, we can suggest a few things that might fall into the fame mix: prominent or angular Pluto is common, perhaps because these people are in some way driven, and certainly they in some way interact with or attract power and power positions; Saturn in some relative strength in the chart–this suggests a modicum of Self-discipline (in instances of fame achieved, rather than stumbled into accidentally), also that the world may take one seriously, and that one can make some impact on reality; the chart ruler (ruler of the Ascendant) prominent in the chart, suggesting a force of personality; the Midheaven and/ or Sun usually vital to the aspects that show what the individual is famous for; and some significant Nodal involvement with the other energies. Just some suggestions, of course–it’s up to the individual, not the chart, to take what we’re endowed with and shape it into something worthy of the regard of the rest of humanity.

Jupiter Reverses, Mars Enters Leo: The Madness!

Jupiter, Mars

We may be feeling a little unhinged as of late, and I think I’ll lay blame at the feet of giant Jupiter as it retrogrades (the 9th at 3:57 AM PDT) and our little internal warrior Mars as it escapes Watery, touchy-feely Cancer for the bravura Fire of Leo (the 9th at 1:21 PM PDT). We’re stirred up yet short-circuited in our bid to keep getting bigger, in some vital way. Jupiter’s turnaround point forces a pause, and a reconsideration of just what we’ve been up to; and it always comes just when we feel we’re on the verge of that BIG breakout.

Why would the Universe orchestrate such a frustrating pattern? We get a clue in the way the Sun trines Jupiter just after retrograde–this points up that we have reached a reasonable peak relative to our efforts, and now must in some way re-visit our path to this moment, if not for revision then at least for time to truly assimilate what’s occurred. But what happens when, as we’ll see now, the ego and assertive urge undergoes its own ‘crisis’ as it moves from one sign to the next?

Mars is liable to burst forth as it hits Leo. Simultaneous to entry into the sign of the Lion, Mars will quincunx Pluto and then semi-sextile Saturn, and this influence will be felt! The urge to run forward will plunge us into some dark material, some of it by accident, some by design as we hope to erradicate problems and ‘clean it up.’ Saturn’s involvement may bring energies into reality more easily than we would typically anticipate–and then our Mars/ Pluto quincunx will be staring us right in the face–so what should we do, now that we have a chance to make real change?

My thought is that we can look to the House(s) Mars rules in the natal chart, and to Pluto’s natal state in general, for appropriate and effective outlets for this exuberant (and if not controlled, destructive) energy. Elimination of the negative, the encumbrance, the hurtful thing that’s been holding us back, is possible, and timed with Jupiter’s withdrawal of permission to expand indefinitely, implies a graceful intelligence at work in the Universe that prevents us from overdoing the destruction or elimination; instead Jupiter helps us avoid leaping over the brink, and saves us from devastating sturctures, relationships, and creations that we would never be able to recover.

The Long, Slow Effect: December’s Jupiter/ Pluto Conjunction

04 Sunday May 2008

≈ Comments Off on The Long, Slow Effect: December’s Jupiter/ Pluto Conjunction

I thought a re-print of this in reference to current activity in the sky and our previous discussion of the Jupiter/ Pluto cycle might be of interest; it first appeared at Yahoo 360 December 12, 2007

For the last few days I’ve been looking into the real life effects of the last Jupiter/ Pluto conjunction as experienced by myself, and by friends, relatives, and clients. I wasn’t just curious about what to expect; I wanted to know about that most illusive of astrological subjects, timing. Did your Jupiter/ Pluto experience occur immediately, as the aspect perfected? Was it a single event or change, or did the transformation come over time? Was the change within, from without, or some of both? These were some of the questions I’ve been asking, and the answers for the most part were surprisingly consistent: it seems, rather than a big, splashy trauma, most people described the effects as spreading out from the point of the conjunction like ripples on water. Though the conjunction itself was fraught with tension, not much in terms of immediate change occurred; only later did the reverberations come in waves that pushed people to make major decisions or commitments, to decide life-altering or life-determining alternatives, and to go forward in ways that made for deep, permanent, and fundamental change in the way they view themselves. All this came from compelling inner energies interacting with the individual’s current circumstances. This is the most important part of what I heard: that the changes springing from this time were ones that shaped Self-concept in a major way–that we saw ourselves, our abilities, and what we are capable of in a new light; not necessarily what we’d expect from a textbook reading of transiting Jupiter and Pluto conjunct.

Last night I saw a movie again that I had seen many years ago when it first came out, and looking into the subject of the movie, I drew a possible connection to the Jupiter/ Pluto conjunction at 20 Cancer of late 1930 through mid-1931, with an orb lasting either side of these points. The movie, ‘Carrington,’ centered on a member of the Bloomsbury circle, painter Dora Carrington (born 29 March 1893, no time available, Hereford, England) and her relationships, particularly her interaction with live-in gay companion Lytton Strachey. Even by the open standards of their social circle, which preached acceptance of all sexuality and no jealousy, these two had an unusual relationship. Despite any number of lovers for either, each behaved as the partner of the other, with Dora clearly in denial of the lack of potential for a full physical relationship, right through to Lytton’s death January 21, 1932. Always in precarious health, Lytton Strachey hid the seriousness of his illness as long as possible, with it becoming evident in the period of Jupiter conjunct Pluto. The day he died Dora had transiting Neptune sextile Uranus, ruler of the 7th, quite literally dissolving the partnership; the conjunction had occurred in Dora’s 12th, perhaps compelling the need to eventually face up to the true domestic/ emotional state (Cancer) that she likely was aware of all along but hid from herself (12th House). Lytton’s illness and death triggered a long-brewing despair in Dora, who had been feeling more and more the outsider as others found relationships with those for whom they had a true passion, while it became more and more evident that she was missing something that she would never have with Lytton, despite their feelings for each other. After an unsuccessful suicide attempt (she was saved by her husband, who was in residence with his mistress), she finally succeeded in ending her life March 11, 1932. At her death transiting Neptune was conjunct her Moon exact, Jupiter was exactly trine natal Mercury, Saturn had just moved up above the Descendant and sextiled her natal Venus at 00 Aries (and this placement itself suggests a newness to her expression as a female that would have made rough going in a Mars ruled sign–in fact, she many times expressed a wish that she were a man). Though a terribly unhappy example, this is a version of the kind of major changes, both internal and external, that can emerge, sometimes only reaching fruition months down the line, with Jupiter/ Pluto.

In my own case, the Jupiter/ Pluto conjunction of 13 years ago brought major change for me with the purchase of our first house, the decision to look, choosing, and making an offer proceeding at lightning speed, with initial action coming about a month after the conjunction and huge change put in place (the actual move) less than a month after that. We ended a nomadic existence that had taken us across continents for the previous 10 years, changed our views of ourselves by becoming suburban dwellers, and setting the stage for enormous financial changes over the next year.

And in other news: I’ve noticed a few attempts to access Personal Page #1; this is password protected because the individual has arranged for an ongoing horoscope detailed to their natal chart, transits, and Solar Arc directions. You can have one too! See pricing and conditions at ‘Want More?’ Contact me if interested at juliedemboski@hotmail.com  Thank you!
