Today it’s all about our ambitions, how they can be realized, and what they can get us, whether we are aware of this focus or not. We are attuned to what enhances our personal power situation, and without even thinking about it, we are likely to approach everything in ways that maximize our position and our effectiveness. This is great, except for the way relationships, values, and assets are all in some form of opposition to this, so that pushing so heavily for ambition fulfillment will almost certainly destroy (or transform significantly) our connections and those things that reward us. How to deal? Stay awake, stay aware, and be mindful of what really matters, having your way in the moment, or being loving? Though they’re not automatically mutually exclusive, to consciously take a loving stance will prevent damage–and that’s probably our best defense, right now (Perfecting today: Ceres parallel Zeus, Venus opp Zeus and sq Pluto)

This is a childhood photo of US President Gerald Ford. Note that, though there’s water in the background, the boat is on dry land {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a small metal toy boat, bent and dented, lying in the middle of a (very) dry, sunny street. The saddest images are often those where something is in the wrong place, inappropriate for its situation or surroundings, and here we have an item meant for fun and a water environment stranded and abandoned–and yet to find a symbol of transport in the street has a kind of ironic ring to it, a sense that it was dropped not because it couldn’t float, but because where the person holding it found themselves (the street) was an inappropriate form for the boat. Look around you, and see if there isn’t some place in your life where you have abandoned something that might get you somewhere, if you’d only put it in its rightful place.

For any book orders received at Dog & Sunflower Press, we’ll gladly include one jpg of a natal chart–just include birth name (can be just a first name if you like), date of birth (PLEASE write out the month as a word, don’t use a number!), place of birth (name, not co-ordinates), time of birth (local time is fine). Put this info in the instructions to merchant/comment section on the order form at PayPal, or send it directly to me through the form on the Services page, and the chart will be delivered with your book or books. Please note: If you send the date as numbers only, we will not create a chart.

Enjoy your Tuesday!

'Lake McArthur, Yoho Park' - James MacDonald 1924 {{PD}}

‘Lake McArthur, Yoho Park’ – James MacDonald 1924 {{PD}}

We’re mostly consumed with adjusting to the turnaround of Mars and Pluto, but there are two other influences today, a trine of Venus to Saturn, and a sesquiquadrate of the Sun to Jupiter. Each of these suggest some sort of brakes on bounty, a holding back or reality check on more or better–and this judgmental viewpoint may leak into relationships, especially if we are inclined to place responsibility for containment on externals (that is, if we are prone to do whatever we want, expecting the world or others to exercise discipline for us). We can wind up with some severe limits placed on our money or love; or, we can adopt those restrictive energies ourselves, and create an atmosphere that says ‘No’ preemptively to what could and should be a very good (though consuming) thing.

But, we may also have the grace to see the ways in which we can benefit by showing restraint, especially in relationships or with money, and our attention can be directed to what’s overdone, exaggerated, or what’s prevalent socially–and we can then make our own choices as to how to handle it. It’s a good day, but especially so if we’re willing to exercise optimism, give attention to detail as well as the big picture, and give both conscience and consciousness a workout.

‘Girl in a Pink Dress, Reading, With a Dog’ Charles Joshua Chaplin {{PD}}

On Saturday, sheer strength and our innate creativity help us excavate and deal with injustices, those matters that enrage, or which have been too long ignored or denied; we have the energy to tackle them, and the inspiration to know what to do about them–and we realize that lacking an idea of what to do may have been what kept us from dealing more directly with these matters all along. In order to gain, we must adjust our belief system so that it reflects our highest values–somewhere along the way we may have gotten the mind off track, thinking in a direction that contradicts what we truly venerate and admire, and as a result we may end up modifying our ambitions and goals, too–because if we see how our thinking doesn’t honor our values, it only follows that we must change our aims to match the corrected approach (Black Moon Lilith parallel Ceres and sesq Neptune, Venus qnx Jup, Merc conjoined Vesta and qnx Zeus)

The word image for the day is: a spider sits in her web; caught on the strands are two white petals from a flowering tree, that flutter like flags of surrender in the breeze. What person or thing that has intimidated or even frightened you is now sending out signals that they want a truce? It’s worth re-assessing what’s scared you in the past; a more objective light might show they are as averse to conflict with you as you were to them.

Sunday our thoughts and words are our bond, and must be held as sacred, if we are to create the change we truly desire. This will make a shift in our goals, and what we want suddenly is informed as much by instinct as by the mind–which means what we put our attention on is probably a smart place for it to be (Merc-Vesta conjoined, both trine Pluto and qnx Zeus, Venus nov Sedna, Sun sxt Pallas)

Adriaen van de Venne c1630 {{PD}}

Adriaen van de Venne c1630 {{PD}}

Our idea of what’s wise, what’s practical, must stretch and change, and so must we. If we allow wisdom to work on us, we transform, butterfly-like, but if we allow rage, jealousy, or envy as a motivating force, we could destroy what is useful or practical in an attempt to clear the slate and start anew; we might also be tempted to ignore or deny the unpleasant, believing we can substitute a pretty picture for true reform, but that only draws attention to what needs to change.

Too, we may not be happy with the messages we receive from authorities or those in power, but if we listen carefully, we may come to understand what binds and restricts them; this could foster empathy, and so improve our interactions, or could show us where and how in the reality picture we have the opportunity to gain status (likely by providing something in the real world that others do not or cannot). Dreams have been and will continue to show us the skeleton dancing beneath the illusion; pay attention to what they’ve been telling you, as right now they’re a source of Truth (Perfecting today: Pluto nov Pallas, Venus semi-sq Pallas and parallel the NN, Merc semi-sq Ceres and qnx Saturn, Sun opp Black Moon Lilith and semi-sq Neptune)

Today’s word image is a pure white cat. If a black cat is something you don’t want to cross your path, is a white cat something you do want to see? Watch for a white cat (or its symbolic equivalent, such as a picture or brand name or on a label) as a sign of the way you should go, as pointing you toward the ‘right’ direction.

And have a great Friday!

Eilif Peterssen – Moonrise over the dunes 1882 {{PD}}

The ability to spot opportunity meets the urge to adjust the reality picture to more closely align with the highest values, and we end up with a day that holds enormous positive potential IF 1) we refuse to indulge in rebellious behavior, 2) we consider that feedback may offer a view of our own behavior we need in order to succeed, and 3) we find reasonable balance between what the social order requires and what we personally want. We think big; we may also be prone to exaggerate our ability to handle every situation. Be clear on just where you are empowered, and where you might need help, or should abdicate to others, before proceeding (Ceres enters Aries and contra-parallels Sedna, Uranus, and Jupiter, Saturn qnx Vesta, Merc trine Jup)

Today’s word image is a face at a darkened window, illuminated for just a split second by lightning. Who or what has been revealed to us, and in what way have we pretended that knowledge just ‘disappeared’? This is about owning and putting into practice what we have seen, though it’s not about accusations, pointing fingers, or otherwise exposing someone else; it’s instead about acknowledging our observations and intuitions and conducting ourselves accordingly.

How much do we want to accommodate others, how much do we want to perform alone? Edgar Degas - 'A Group of Dancers' 1890 {{PD}}

How much do we want to accommodate others, how much do we want to perform alone? Edgar Degas – ‘A Group of Dancers’ 1890 {{PD}}

It’s not quite an Us v. Them mentality, and neither is the viewpoint so separate that we don’t see our likenesses; instead it’s more a state of jockeying for position within and relative to the group, even as we assess the importance of each component–that is, we measure how much attention should go to us, how much to the rest of the world, the partner, and everyone in between.

It’s time to examine how much we have ordered our life according to our wants, versus setting things up according to someone else’s. Everyone, to some extent, must accommodate others, but what we need to assess right now is how much we have allowed our decisions (because we are responsible for where we are, it’s not anyone else’s fault) to be influenced, or even dictated, by others. Have you put off moving forward in order to keep someone’s good opinion, even to keep their love? (hint, if so, they don’t actually love you)

Have you scrapped plans or an ideal in order to fit into someone else’s life, or into their plans, or to live their ideals? There’s no ‘right amount’ of life modification for others, past which our accommodation is too much; neither is it ‘better’ (more virtuous, honest, or fulfilling) to refuse to accommodate others and their needs and wants. In the end, if we choose to put others first, we do have to acknowledge that this is a choice, one that ideally felt absolutely right when we made it. The only question now is, how much must be re-ordered in our lives so that we are at our ultimate point of best satisfaction, a position that finds just the right balance between our needs, and those parts of the world we want to bring along with us.

Be prepared: facts might change our view of ourselves and our own potential for originality or unique expression; too, what we want and what we choose may adjust our current outlook or identity, and we need to be braced for the change. And one more caveat: in this instance, instinct is not necessarily our friend, for the simple reason that we likely followed it to where we are in the first place–and today is about reassessing, and if need be, shaking it up (Jup parallel Uranus, Venus qnx and contra-parallel Juno and semi-sq Sedna, Sun sesq Mars)

Joseph DeCamp 'The Window Blind' 1920 {{PD}}

Joseph DeCamp ‘The Window Blind’ 1920 {{PD}}

Today both our urge to express in original and unique ways and our social urges will be in sync with our instincts, and with facets of our nature that are obvious to others but remain hidden from ourselves. What results is a kind of internal harmony that is matched externally, and can form a sort of alternate Universe, in which we act out our blind spot material, and into which we pour the strengths and weaknesses inherent in our individual perceptions and responses, so that what we communicate is most creative: it conveys to others our values, all that we care about, all that we are willing to do to earn and achieve, and shows in precisely what ways we’re laboring under the the impetus of dreams, or the weight of delusion. It’s a world entirely constructed of what’s in our heads, and what those factors of perception and belief mean to us–so what we’ll see and experience, in essence, is what the Universe would be made of, if we were its sole creator. This should be interesting, don’t you think? (Sedna parallel Uranus and Jupiter, Venus trine Mars, Mercury sxt Neptune)

Wild turkey in eastern United States (Meleagris gallopavo) {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a wild turkey, running through the woods. It’s an odd thing to see something we think of as so thoroughly domesticated in its wild state and typical habitat. Look around–there’s something you think has been tamed, subdued, or exists for your own purposes that is actually, in some important way, wild, and so is outside the control or confines you expect. The nature of the person or situation is such that with a little scrutiny you may find it’s completely different than you thought–and so deserves a second look, to assess whether or not it’s worth keeping in your sights.

Saturday the challenge is to sort fact from fiction, and to tease out those who are hungry for real power versus those who are merely ambitious, trying to achieve. Here are a few wee formulas to help you figure things out: the more authoritarian someone’s approach, the more unwise their ideas; creativity brings strength; so does a willingness to express one’s uniqueness within the loose confines of and in harmony with the group; plans for the future will focus too much on difficulties and not enough on capabilities as they now stand, so leave them for another time; and too much navel-gazing will register as a distinct loss of personal power. Escapism will be a temptation, and while a little relaxation is just what the doctor ordered, a certain contingent (you know who they are) will go too far, likely out of a misguided attempt to show their independence (a slurred “You don’t know me!” might give them away) (Perfecting today: Pallas contra-parallel Ceres and Neptune, Neptune parallel Ceres, Pluto square Zeus, Mercury sesq NN, Sun conjoined Uranus and contra-parallel Ceres)

By the 10th it appears we’ll become very concerned with donning at least one of these masks: looking good for the social sphere; showing the wisdom we’ve gained from the experience of our wounds in either Money or Relationship matters; re-writing the history of our recent actions and choices; and showing either how creative we are, or how smart our life path. I termed these stances ‘masks’ because of the way we’re looking out, at the effect we’re having on others, by ‘wearing’ these particular attitudes and behaviors. There’s nothing inherently wrong with any of these concepts, but there’s something deeply amiss in the idea that we think we can don a mask (that is, be ungenuine by showing a specific ‘face’ to others) with the aim of fooling them about who we are (even if that’s only an attempt to show them something positive you think they might’ve missed). Be who and what you are, and don’t try to hide it, or talk people out of their ideas of you–you must live and choose unconcerned with what others will think.

A few other hints for handling Sunday: house hunting or other matters concerning the abode, and cooperation with what the mate wants, may be expensive, and overdoing (with time or money) on those things to which we’re dedicated is a real possibility; communication may be inadvertently hostile or hurtful, and certainly is about power; and if you can get a little perspective on your identity and role, you may discover some outstanding creative ways to gain/ earn–at the very least, you can write those ideas down for consideration later (Jupiter trine Vesta, Venus parallel Chiron and nov Pallas, Merc qnx Mars, semi-sq Chiron, and nov Ceres, Sun parallel Pallas, qnx NN, nov and contra-parallel Neptune)

Monday the 11th think deeply on what empowerment means to you (how much is it really centered in power, how much in autonomy, how much in freedom, in comfort?), and how you might get the sense of having it in your life, especially in material matters (Merc in Taurus opp Juno in Scorpio)

I’ll be back tomorrow with the images for all three days; in the meantime, if you come here often/ regularly, please consider making a small donation, buying a book, reviewing one of my books on Goodreads, or purchasing services (which are admittedly limited right now by heavy booking). Thank you, and have a wonderful weekend!

After that New Moon, there’s going to be a reckoning. The momentum that took shape yesterday continues, and we notice two trends: a real and present ability to connect to both our instincts and our originality, almost without effort, and an acute awareness of and appreciation of what in our lives we truly value. It may not sound like much, but these two shifts make our choices have impact and import of much more depth than they usually do–and this leads to reverberations from those decisions we make today that will reach out into the future (and maybe into the past) like ripples through water–so no sweat, right? New Moon 7 April 2016 Re-Writing the ‘I Am’

Eva Gonzalès - 'An actress with a mask' {{PD}}

Eva Gonzalès – ‘An actress with a mask’ {{PD}}

The New Moon in Aries is conjoined Uranus–does that mean what begins at this time is a spark, a surprise, an explosion, a riot, chaos of the highest order? Perhaps, though it could also be a new start, a modern approach, or a radical solution, and could portend group involvement or, conversely, suddenly having to ‘go it alone’. Look for the effect in the matters of the House of the natal chart where the NM falls–and then look to see if it fills in a pattern with your natal energies.

New Moon in Aries April 2016

The NM square to Pluto says that placements at 16-20 of Cancer or Libra draw you into a tense NM situation where the arm of the figure (the part not involved in an opposition) provides the answer to resolving the tension, particularly through the matters of the House this body rules (if any). If one has a natal square at those degrees of Cancer and Libra, the New Moon and transiting Pluto fill in a Cardinal Grand Cross, and likely present you with a crisis in action–one that either rises from the New Moon beginning (or is itself the New Moon beginning), or one that takes the usual way of dealing with the square, then destroys and transforms it into a new way to use the natal energies (and since Pluto has been nearby a while, the destructive process could’ve occurred some time ago, with the solution only now arriving).

Natal placements at 14-20 of Leo receive membership in a New Moon Grand Trine utilizing transiting Saturn. Here a NM event brings balance, stability, or materializes concretely the energy of the contacted natal body; peace may be found, a restlessness removed, or something intangible finally finds expression through the material, and there’s the potential for ending a destructive or power-oriented ambition or desire.

The New Moon-Uranus is also opposed Zeus. On the one hand this can bring ambitions and their fulfillment or lack thereof into that difficult T-square or Grand Cross described above; it can also show as a rejection of previous ambitions or desires, as a new personal (Aries) viewpoint emerges.

This is a New Moon, and that means any or all of these effects could be temporary, a stop gap or destined to evolve over time; especially for those with no contact to natal bodies, who experience it in ‘purest’ form, the New Moon may bring a surprising energy, a sudden burst of Willpower or the need to assert the ‘I Am’ in matters of the House where it falls, making a statement about Self-assertion and identity, ‘out loud’ if above the horizon, a whisper to the Self if below. Other influences for the 7th are the availability of healing messages (Mercury nov Chiron) and a sense of ‘being lucky’, seeing opportunities right away, and confidently asking the Universe for ‘more’ (Sun parallel Jupiter).

Vasnetsov_samoletThe Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘The “Magic Carpet” Of Oriental Imagery’. A flying carpet has always been about transport, a physical mechanism that takes us on a journey that shows us the world from a new perspective. That’s one of the more practical functions of imagination, so we might expect to see Neptune in the New Moon equation–but only if we look very carefully will we find it.

The New Moon falls equidistant from Sedna and Neptune, at their midpoint but outside the normal Ptolemaic measurements, and even outside the minor connectors. The aspect is both relative and relational, a connection that would normally go unnoticed, and maybe that’s the point: the New Moon brings a new perspective, one that stirs the creative and that draws on knowledge related to the primitive and the instinctual carried deep within consciousness (Sedna); we may believe the influence shaping the new viewpoint is entirely Self-conscious (Aries), but what occurs may be more subtle, and more hidden, than we know. This new viewpoint may be born from larger events (those created by contacts to the natal picture) or may arrive by refuting or defining particular desires or ambitions, by changing the current landscape through material expression, or may bring something significant (and possibly destructive) to a halt, with the discovery of this new way of being who we are, this new ‘I Am’.

I love the take on the New Moon at Robin’s Window

The word image for the New Moon is a glamorous, heavily beaded dress that loses a bead now and then as it’s worn. We might be very upset at the idea that what is essentially a work of Art isn’t remaining intact, but if we realize it’s a kind of ‘living Art’ in that the damage comes through normal wear, we might accept this as the evolution of the piece, its expression coming at the cost of perfection–and understand that the scars and losses and changes that come from living carry a perfection and beauty of their own.

See some examples of beaded gowns here–
