‘An Invocation to I-em-hetep, the Egyptian Deity of Medicine’ By Ernest Board {{PD}}

We can visualize, or even ‘feel by immersion’, what would constitute a state of perfect health for us, and even better, we know exactly what to do to achieve it. The mind is healed, as well, if we are willing and able to put our attention on what needs to be transformed from the past. This may be a current situation formed in the past that must be addressed with love, or a matter of reviewing something we regret and healing it by rendering it powerless to make us feel guilt or to affect the now. Please note: this is not a license to indulge in Self-destructive behaviors from the past under the guise of attending to their healing. That’s not how any of this works.

(Chiron parallel Hygeia, Neptune nov Vesta, Mars parallel Pallas, Mercury trine Chiron, Sun nov SN)

Mandrake is also known as ‘The Devil’s Apples’ {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a mandrake root. The mandrake was believed to have magical properties, as the root often resembles a human. It has hallucinogenic potentials but is dangerously poisonous, as well. What rather ordinary thing in your life has been endowed with a magical aura because of associations you make–and what about it is so negative that, when you’re honest with yourself, you admit you really should eliminate it?

And now, one of my favorite poems:

Song By John Donne

Go and catch a falling star,

Get with child a mandrake root,

Tell me where all past years are,

Or who cleft the devil’s foot,

Teach me to hear mermaids singing,

Or to keep off envy’s stinging,

And find

What wind

Serves to advance an honest mind.

If thou be’st born to strange sights,

Things invisible to see,

Ride ten thousand days and nights,

Till age snow white hairs on thee,

Thou, when thou return’st, wilt tell me,

All strange wonders that befell thee,

And swear,

No where

Lives a woman true, and fair.

If thou find’st one, let me know,

Such a pilgrimage were sweet;

Yet do not, I would not go

Though at next door we might meet;

Though she were true, when you met her,

And last, till you write your letter,

Yet she

Will be

False, ere I come, to two, or three.

Make sure what you’re going after is alive and kicking. Attic Black-figure Neck Amphora attributed to Group E – Workshop of Exekias, ca. 540 BCE, depicting Two Warriors Fighting Over a Corpse – possible the battle of Aias (Ajax) and Hektor over the body of Patroklos CC0

There’s no other way to say it, really: tamp down the delusions, quit allowing your most erratic energies to reign, and face head-on what’s been denied, avoided, ignored, or what enrages you; that’s the only way, I repeat, ONLY WAY, to make something of our current natural tendency to put our attention on what we honor or find sacred. That is, without a ‘battle plan’, a specific way to act out our caring, concern, and values, we will flounder and likely head off in the wrong direction (and by wrong direction I mean one that doesn’t address what we actually care about).

(Pallas trine Black Moon Lilith, Neptune qnx Pallas, Sun parallel Vesta, Venus contra-parallel Uranus)

‘The Flower Seller’ By Auguste Serrure 1870 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a vendor who makes it difficult to buy their wares. Have you ever seen this? Someone who claims to want to sell something, but makes it hard for you to pay for it (won’t tell you how much they want, accepts only jars of pennies as payment, considers allowing you to purchase only if you say “Pretty please” and spin around quickly three times, etc). Why do people do this? You’d think that if someone wants to earn, they would be open and cooperative to some extent–and if they aren’t, that tells us that what they are really after isn’t money for goods, it’s intangibles such as wanting to be honored in a particular way, wanting to enforce a kind of exclusivity, wanting to make a judgement over whether the buyer is ‘worthy’ or to declare how the item or material should be used once it leaves their possession, or because they don’t actually want to part with the thing they are ostensibly selling in the first place. That suggests they are trying to fill a hole in the spirit with a function that should be, as the phrase goes, ‘just business’. And be clear: I’m not speaking of those who can’t accommodate a request or order (for instance, if they are booked, or can only make their widgets so fast), I’m talking about people who make what should be a straightforward transaction unnecessarily difficult–and this can go in the other direction, as well, if one is trying to buy more from the individual than they are actually selling, such as expecting an emotional ‘payoff’ to come with purchase, or perhaps by approaching a transaction with the assumption that to get your money’s worth means to get more than the seller is offering–which, we have to assume, the seller isn’t willing to offer, making the extraction of such extortion, or even a kind of spiritual bullying! So, today’s task is to examine energy exchanges in your life in order to see who, including yourself, might hold unwarranted expectations–and conversely, who might be making something transactional (an emotional relationship between parent and child, for example) that should in no way be conditional.

The second part of the ‘Cinderella’ article is on the way–I’ve just got so much to do right now! And I know I’m not alone in that. Have a wonderful weekend!

Your Weekend 1-2 December 2018 How Much Love, How Much Power?

‘Omnia Vincit Amor, or The Power of Love in the Three Elements’ By Benjamin West 1890 {{PD}}

The general theme this weekend may be the personal balance of Power/ Love in your own life–and Truth in some form or another definitely figures into the equation.

On the 1st we know what to do, what to choose–we are in perfect alignment with our own values and priorities, and particularly with our highest ideals–and because of this harmony we’ll know what and how to transform circumstances for best results, including pulling in profit and/ or Love. This may be because of, or in spite of, the dark turn our thoughts have taken. We may be consumed with what we or others have hidden, are in denial of, are enraged by, or by the simple act of ignoring or being ignored. It can be a highly effective day, in terms of what we can set right, accomplish, or purge–and yet we run the risk of confusing the ability to face the darkness right now with that willingness being responsible for our current successes–which it is not. Keep ideals high, and make scouring the shadowed underbelly of people and things for the Truth an end in itself, rather than a mechanism of judgment, and all will be well.

(Mars nov and Mercury sxt Vesta, aspecting as Vesta moves into Aquarius and Mercury backs into Scorpio, Merc also parallel Black Moon Lilith, and the Sun nov both Venus and Pluto, and so caught at their midpoint)

Venus wanders into Scorpio on the 2nd, and the tone of relationships and remuneration edges toward the obscure, the confusing, the ideal (especially in terms of Power), and/ or in a creative/ destructive direction, the latter enhancing our desire to get to the Truth. Wounds can be healed, in this potential atmosphere of warm-and-fuzzy (or maybe it’s dank-and-passionate), but also easily perpetrated, as we are both too independent and prone to disbelieve our own instincts and what we know to be smart. The hard positions (possibly no-win) we find ourselves in may bring conflict, especially within the group, but we should know that underlying any upset is much-needed change, and if we face it with an attitude that looks for opportunity rather than to run away, we advance our interests and our overall well-being–and we may have a desire or two fulfilled along the way, to boot.

Many Thanks to zucker.leslie and anupturnedsoul for correcting my screw up. I wrote that Venus was entering Pisces (which I remember as I wrote it struck me as strange), when it was actually entering Scorpio. I was thinking of Water, and the emotional depths and all we can get from them, and of Plutonian energy (and the Sun’s parallel and square to Pluto and Mars) and the way it can overwhelm, obscure, and generate, as well as destroy, and then in referencing back to my own mention of Venus’ new sign, I misled myself, thinking, ‘Better mention the connection to Oneness!’ So again, thank you, dear Readers, for being on the ball, when I’m not!

(Pallas sesq Sedna, Chiron trine NN, Jupiter semi-sq Zeus, Mercury qnx Uranus, Sun parallel Pluto and sq Mars)

This weekend’s word image is a misidentified photo. What are you mislabeling in your own life, thinking it is one thing when it’s completely another? This might be a big issue with significant consequences, or a small thing that gently turns the perceptions kaleidoscope, but in either case will frame a shift in thinking and ‘seeing’.

‘Jar, Bottle and Glass’ By Juan Gris 1911 {{PD}}

We have a way with the material world today, a kind of genius for manipulating tangibles, a capacity to build, form, shape, accumulate, and set boundaries–so what gets in our way? Power struggles, especially those centered in relationship dynamics, financial dependencies, and in questions of autonomy vs. authority. Issues arise because we either refuse to listen to our own inner voice, our own instincts, or because we are pushing through some of our own blind spot material, and problems are merely others reflecting back to us what we’re not seeing. A good day, if we are as open to feelings, our own and others’, as we are to interaction with the physical world.

(Venus qnx Juno, Sun nov Saturn and opp Sedna)

‘Night in Saint-Cloud’ By Edvard Munch 1890 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a rapidly darkening day. In the Northern Hemisphere we’re all getting a taste of this now, as winter approaches and the days shorten, but my focus is on the sense of darkness coming prematurely, night arriving much sooner in our ‘day’ than we expect. Is there some area in your life where you feel ‘darkness’, or perhaps an ending, closing in? Is there a feeling of panic, upset, or disappointment over having less time to address this than you thought you would (or that you want)? And is this feeling diverting attention from those things you could do to affect what’s coming–are you so busy lamenting and wishing for ‘more’ that you aren’t really seeing and enjoying what you have?

‘Early spring’ 1885 By Ivan Endogurov / Иван Ендогуров {{PD}}

It’s a day to stay in our lanes, and yet to make those lanes as wide as possible, to claim all our territory, to embrace our roles and the authority those carry. It’s not a day for ego or to shout ‘Look at me!’; instead, we do best to keep thinking and plans closely aligned with highest values and priorities, and to accept that the kind of power we should pursue is consistently smart and practical–and nothing else.  Disruptors include the unexpected or unreliable in relationships and income streams, and a potential lack of grace displayed when confronted with new or revolutionary ideas.

Today’s word image is an electronic device (phone, computer, Alexa, Siri, television) engaged in unauthorized listening within your home. Does that concept freak you out, creep you out, or do you think it might be a good thing, helpful in a case of break-in or injury where you could shout for help? Today we might pay attention to how much privacy we actually have, and how we feel about that.

‘The Three Goddesses Athena, Hera and Aphrodite’ By Franz von Stuck 1923 {{PD}}

The 10th brings a very particular kind of stress: the tension that comes with dissonance between the Will and the current life direction, between doing (and so feeling effective in your choices) and listening to instincts and the more subtle currents of feeling and what you ‘know but don’t know’. We might phrase this conflict another way: it’s the difference between wanting to do and so gain instant gratification, and sitting back, listening, and then taking a less flashy path. One results in immediate returns, while the other brings gain down the road, but with the latter, the benefits may be far greater, more far reaching, and could facilitate a long-held life goal. So which will it be, a payoff right now, or one down the road? Your choice. Neither option is inherently ‘better’; it all depends on whether you are living totally in the moment (in which case there won’t be any positive ripple effect into tomorrow–all the positives come today–you need to know that), or whether you are choosing and acting with an eye to what you’re building for the future (Ceres sq the Nodes, Mars sq Sedna-Juno conj, Chiron contra-parallel Juno, Mercury sxt Black Moon Lilith and semi-sq Venus)

On the 11th Ceres enters Scorpio–Nature reveals her mysteries, shares her secrets, or delivers certain Truths–and we are face-to-face with the reality of the Power situation and our place within it. The question becomes: do we dare trust ourselves, our instincts, our knowing, and so proceed according to our deepest nature, or do we trust external power situations and holders to support our cause? Again, neither of these answers is inherently superior, it all depends on what we need right now–and today, how we feel about (and how much we truly trust) ourselves. Hint: be honest with yourself. If you tend to let yourself down, failing to follow through on crucial efforts, your best bet is to be open to the aid you can receive from authority figures, as using these influences to their maximum potential requires a lot of energy and a willingness to have faith in and commit to one’s own original ideas–so do what’s best for you (Juno conj Sedna, Uranus opp Ceres, Sun sxt Pluto)

Your Weekend 3-4 November 2018 The Abyss + Urge Adjustment

{{PD}}

Saturday the 3rd we’re trying to achieve some kind of détente between a need to express our empowerment, to really feel it, and an urge to act and express out of hurt. We are conscious of how unproductive our wounds are, how expression that springs from them may cause more problems than it solves, but we feel a deep need to have our emotional upset heard and validated–and so we are vulnerable to harming relationships or financial situations, if we allow a sense of victimhood to override the practical and effective, to lay waste the eternal values we believe in. Processed well, our feelings will foster compassion, even as we focus on Self-responsibility, letting go of any need to make an emotional (that is, destructive) point (Finger of God with base of Chiron-Juno, apex retro Venus).

Thoughts may feel as if they’re perpetually on the edge of tipping into a destructive abyss, but our conscious alignment is with Love and caring–so step away from the edge by stopping to smell the flowers, by being grateful for what we have, and by transforming the mental attitude by concentrating on transforming what we truly have the power to effect (Sun parallel Venus, Mercury semi-sq Pluto).

Sunday the 4th Pallas moves into Libra, focusing our sense of productive expression of skills on the ways these may benefit alliances, relationships, aesthetic matters, and our personal financial arena. We must adjust urges, balancing spontaneous needs to rebel or be unpredictable with what’s wise or practical, balancing the need to feel ‘in charge’ and show dominion over our ‘territory’ while listening to and honoring that still, small voice of conscience, instinct, and inner knowing. A willingness to adjust serves ambitions and helps curb what in all likelihood is a too assertive sense of Self (Sun parallel Mars, Mercury semi-sq Zeus, Uranus qnx Pallas, Ceres qnx Sedna)

Our weekend word image is a mirror with ‘smoked’ glass, rendering it unable to offer a reflection. Know it or not, we are all currently having difficulty seeing who we are. This weekend offers several opportunities to see ourselves more clearly–the only question is, will we recognize that information when we see it?

Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

‘Portrait of the Artist’s Son’ By Eero Järnefelt 1887 {{PD}}

Today ambitions are undermined by things we ‘know but don’t know’, by our own ‘blind spot’ material (especially matters that affect our own or others’ security or comfort), and by an inability, for whatever reason, to trust our own instincts. The perception is that we’re on shaky ground, and the reality may fall anywhere along the spectrum from solid footing to earthquake.

What can we do brilliantly? Think, plan, cogitate, use. our. brains. If the mind can address it, we should spend today doing just that, as ‘actively’ and consciously as possible. Don’t allow physical stillness to trick you into believing you aren’t doing anything–getting plans in place and the facts right is the very best use of your time.

Today’s word image is a pair of dice. Life really is a game of chance–quit waiting for a guarantee that things will work out as you like. Though I’m in danger of sounding like a meme, I’d say it’s all about the journey–the destination will take care of itself.

27 October 2018 Standards or Achievements?

‘Sea Babies’ By Max Bohm 1914 {{PD}}

Upholding our standards and values, or implementing our Will with little fuss or need to bow to others? The first is a somewhat static position, but a stance we might need to take in order to think well of ourselves, while the latter could send us riding roughshod over the feelings and needs of those around us as we do do do. We can’t both display our standards and achieve, today; even worse, we may find ourselves having to choose between exercising our prerogatives (again, without answering to anyone else), or centering our actions and reactions in our sense of hurt or in a need to offer skills (with a further challenge of matching those skills to what’s needed around us–which we may not be able to do!)

The most effective course may lie in staying attuned to the reality picture, and doing what’s mentally healthy, however you might define that. It might mean eschewing experimentation or refusing to go out on a creative limb in favor of what you know to be the most solid reasoning, the most practical or sensible alternative, or the option least destructive to you, others, and the environment. It may feel like a sacrifice, this putting-on-of-the-brakes, but it’s actually time to re-align our thinking with what’s reasonable, with what’s meaningful in a real world sense, and for at least some of us this may seem tragically lacking in glamor. It is, and that’s the point: we need a solid, healthy base from which to take our flights of fancy, and today is a day that requires we either take steps to secure that base, or we take action, and the need for others or a secure position be damned.

(Perfecting today: Vesta sesq Juno, Chiron contra-parallel Ceres, Mars nov Chiron, Mercury trine Hygeia, Sun sxt Saturn)

Does anyone actually count these, to help them sleep? ‘Sheep in front of haystacks’ By Jean-François Millet c1874 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is insomnia. What does not being able to sleep mean for you? Even if you’re not (yet) in a period of insomnia, it may be time to take steps to insure you don’t get into one–so try to do one or more of the things you find soothing, relaxing, that help you sleep when you need to. Current aspects suggest a certain subtle discord that some may respond to by being extra wakeful–but a little attention will likely prevent this from becoming a truly debilitating possibility.

18-24 October 2018 A Careful Balance

astrology, My Daily Astrology Diary, My Weekend Astro Diary, The Astro Essence

By Ramon Casas i Carbó c1890 {{PD}}

I’m not resuming daily posts, but did want to give everyone some tips for the coming week. The 18th we can be highly effective in material matters; that is, in actual manipulation of the environment or physical components. Tackle chores or go forward with efforts that express ideals or that follow ‘Higher Mind’ precepts–they’ll be executed with a touch of genius, right now. Be aware, though: just because ‘it’ is appealing, doesn’t mean it’s a smart choice (Mars nov Saturn and semi-sq Chiron, Venus semi-sq Pallas)

The 19th is a day when using one’s authority and creativity together is a winning combination. Ambitions can be realized–but only if we can avoid being impulsive and/ or avoid using ideas originating from our own hurt feelings or from angry Self-justification. As long as ambitions reflect ideals, things should go well; the minute we sink to ego level, we come up short (Ceres conj Zeus, Mercury sq Mars, sesq Chiron, trine Neptune)

My favorite representations of the Tarot ‘Fool’ show him blithely ready to step off a cliff–something like the attitude we need to adopt today. {{PD}}

The 20th presents a tricky equation: we have to act without resorting to power roles or personal ‘pull’, while simultaneously dealing with ‘blind spot’ material that, quite logically, we can’t possibly see! We may need to put our faith in our instincts, even as we trust that the Universe will deliver what we might otherwise be tempted to pursue using privilege, influence, or outright payment. A balancing act best symbolized by the Tarot card ‘The Fool’–trust in the Universe, but also in one’s own inner voice (Juno contra-parallel Ceres, Sun qnx Sedna)

By the 21st ‘it’ piles up–and by it I mean thoughts and impulses that may seem to have no effective outlet. We may be tempted to make unwise choices in an effort to avoid matters we’ve been ignoring or denying, or to dodge a fight over things that enrage us. It may feel as if everything we honor is being trampled. We must acknowledge needs even as we hold back automatically acting on them. Proactively we need to do two things to effectively cope: reach out only in blatantly healthy and positive ways, and seek the optimistic and the opportunities that attitude presents–all else is folly (Pallas sesq Black Moon Lilith, Vesta sesq Sedna, Jupiter trine Hygeia, Mars parallel BML, Mercury parallel Mars, Jupiter, and BML)

On the 22nd we see the ‘right’ move, if we can see what is of worth from the past, and if we don’t let our imaginations run away with us or let deceptions mislead us. Thoughts on Power and its effects are perceptive and probably accurate, and words and thoughts can be transformative (for good or ill), but if implementing change requires rebellion or varying from your core identity/ character, then it’s not a good idea, after all. And no matter what, cause no harm (Mars parallel Jupiter, Venus parallel SN, Mercury sxt Pluto, Sun contra-parallel Uranus, qnx Chiron, sesq Neptune)

For the 23rd, optimism and embracing ‘the facts’ are key. Contrary to earlier in the week, what appeals is smart, especially if it causes you to see the beauty in the past having rolled out just the way it did. The Sun enters Scorpio, and in so doing may challenge your ideas of what your role should be; as long as you respect individuality while emphasizing reliability and regularity, you’ll find yourself in exactly the spot you need to be (and prompted to purge exactly what needs purging). (Jupiter parallel BML, Venus nov Pallas, Mercury parallel SN and Venus, Sun opp Uranus and qnx Juno)

Juno enters Taurus on the 24th, and coupled with Venus’ sextile to Saturn may bring us ‘down to Earth’ in positive, profitable, or soothing ways. It’s a day when enjoying the material fruits of our position will better our standing or our environment–the only caution is betting too much on our ‘day in the Sun’, without giving due consideration to where we’ve come from, and where we’re going (Sun sq Nodal axis)

Full Moon forecast to follow. I may come back during the week to add Daily Images. Remember, Venus is still retro, so caution in Venusian life areas is smart. Have a lovely week!
