The New Moon in Capricorn occurs at 3:14 AM PST on the 1st at 10 Cap 57

The Cappy New Moon forms a tidy Cardinal Grand Cross with Uranus, Earth, and Mars, and is itself conjunct Pluto and Mercury, and also sextiles Chiron and trines Pallas. We typically tense for a lot of action with such a configuration, especially when the ambulance crew (Chiron) is standing by and the Moon and Sun have hooked up with a major power player (Pluto). What I think we end up with, though, is more of a denouement, a drawing together of all the changes and revelations of those participants in the repeated slow-moving squares into a coherent statement of our changed circumstances. Rather than energies that act as bombs or bullies, we instead see an accounting, a gathering, of all that has come before, particularly from the squares of Uranus and Pluto, and we finally see the way these changes have given us power, skills, and wisdom. Yes! That’s what is left, after all the bullsh*t is distilled out: a scenario of grace and beauty is born based on our new (and certainly improved) power stance.

Some of you may say, ‘Wait a minute—I haven’t received any power! Nothing’s changed for me”—or it’s changed in negative ways, with opportunities deteriorating, with unexpected smackdowns and lots of anger, prompting erratic, often emotionally desperate, action (cue Chiron). Healing and claiming your power would’ve been the result, if you hadn’t gotten sidetracked, probably by anger or a need to rebel. Don’t worry, it happens to us all at some point—and it’s never too late to get yourself together. This Grand Cross offers an excellent chance to accelerate the lesson, to act up and heal, using the power you do have to become a dynamic Being. We’re likely to see this magnified ability in the House of the natal chart where the NM falls, as well as secondarily in the other Houses that hold the Cardinals (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn).

The Sabian for the New Moon is ‘A Large Group Of Pheasants On A Private Estate’. This is a symbol indicating the necessity of finding our tribe. It’s ‘birds of a feather’ quite literally, and the private estate describes that little portion of the world in which we are immersed, well-versed, and active. If you haven’t yet found your tribe, don’t despair—you will—just keep moving toward your dreams (oh my, I’m sounding like a bad inspirational speaker!) and practicing all those pastimes that define you, because it’s in pursuing your fulfillment that you meet everyone else who’s taking the same road.

The Gemini Full Moon occurs on December 17th at 1:28 AM PST at 25 Gemini 36: ‘It’s All Over But the Talkin’’

Our December Full Moon makes two aspects, a trine to Juno and a wide quincunx to stationary Venus. This culmination may carry with it a sense of accomplishment; we are feeling empowered, or have gained status, in some important way, but stationary Venus says we may be stuck: in a relationship, in our sense of aesthetics, with finances, with earning power, with our Art, with what we care about—somehow, we’re in a bind, and it’s just not working, and we likely don’t know how to get out of it.

In Gemini we’re going to want to talk it out, the only problem being that we may find others unavailable to us (the quincunx Venus), and so despite our triumph of empowerment, gaining, status, partnering with the ‘right’ person, or wielding the influence of our position, we may feel anxious and as if this small relationship or financial thing is keeping us from enjoying our win. It isn’t, really, but try telling that to someone who just wants to clear the air!

This is lovely

7 AM PST of the 14th the Taurus Moon quincunxes the Sun and squares Juno. Empowerment issues are illuminated; the ‘why’ of our status or effectiveness problems are clear. Believe what is revealed or realized, and decide how to handle it–you need a plan going forward. 9 AM PST the Moon conjuncts Sedna, giving us a period of disconnection–make it a relaxing point rather than a stressful one, by not scheduling important efforts for this period. 6:30 PM PST the Moon trines Venus. A delicious interlude can be yours; encourage enjoyment of creature comforts for yourself and those you love. Hobbies and ‘labors of love’ can be quite successful if undertaken now. Void begins at 6:55 PM PST; the Moon enters Gemini at 10:41 PM PST.

'Still Life: Basket of Grapes, Walnuts, and Knife' Leon Bonvin 1863 {{PD-Art}}

‘Still Life: Basket of Grapes, Walnuts, and Knife’ Leon Bonvin 1863 {{PD-Art}}

Just after 8 AM PST of the 11th the Aries Moon opposes Ceres. Our Willfulness may sabotage our own authority; the ‘I Am’ feels alienated from Nature, those in charge, and/ or from those with whom negotiation is needed. It’s not a pretty picture, but it needn’t be a disaster: all we have to do is find the likeness to our own viewpoint in that opposing energy. As long as the Self can identify with its own need to feel powerful, in charge, or a part of the natural order, we can successfully find our way to understanding and compromise. 10 AM PST the Moon opposes Zeus. Now we may feel that our emotions or intuition are undermining our goals and ambitions. There may be some truth to this, and we should examine the feelings/ intuitions with care, for both the underlying perception (with feelings) and the legitimacy of the message (with intuitions, which may be wishful thinking, the mind, or fear in disguise). 2 PM PST the Moons squares Jupiter and quincunxes Saturn. The social scene is not very encouraging, and reality, in a word, bites. Maybe we’d do best to quit looking outside ourselves for validation. Fall back on knowledge, the support system, and those things that can be counted on, and re-group. 6 PM PST the Moon trines the Sun, offering a chance to co-ordinate actions and perceptions into a neat package. 8 PM PST the Moon sextiles Juno, linking us to our best empowerment options, if we’ll only be Self-responsible, and look.

Today’s image is a bottle of wine; you reach out, tilt the bottle so you can read the label, and see that it’s a label from your very own winery, and it playfully but succinctly describes some important aspect of who you are. What does it say? This is something, like the wine, that you would do well to share with others–it’s part of what makes you memorable.

'Summer on the Dunes'NF Schiottz-Jensen 1913 {{PD-Art}}

‘Summer on the Dunes’ NF Schiottz-Jensen 1913 {{PD-Art}}

Noon Pacific the Capricorn Moon trines Sedna and conjuncts Venus. We can connect deeply with the Love concept, and so with those around us, through spirit and the intense connections we all share through life-death-life. This can make for a beautiful and co-operative environment and an exercise of genuine sympathies, though don’t expect much to be overt–this is the kind of connecting that’s wordless, in the ether, and may result more in an atmosphere than in action. 9 PM PST the Moon trines Mars; taking action, especially constructive action or moving to restrict or deny (Cappy Moon) is easy, but so is getting angry or impatient when impediments surface. Channel the energy consciously into things that take a lot of brio and push, for best results. Void begins at 9:33 PM PST; the Moon enters Aquarius at 10:54 PM PST.

Today’s image is an inflatable beach ball. It’s typical that we try to make every moment ‘count’–even our meditation has a purpose. How long has it been since you engaged in something with no point whatsoever? Consider purposely setting aside a time each day to just be, perhaps with an activity that serves nothing and no one, including yourself. You may be surprised at what finds its way into that gap, introduces itself, and changes your life.

‘The Great Sacrifice’ the setting for Stravinsky’s ‘Sacred Spring’ {{PD}}

The New Moon occurs at 4:22 PM Pacific time on the 2nd at 10 Sagittarius 59: ‘Thanksgiving’. It forms a Grand Cross/ Grand Square with Earth and the opposition between Pallas and Chiron; the New Moon also semi-sextiles Pluto, trines Uranus, and sextiles Ceres. This suggests to me a new, personal ‘power arrangement’ in our world, one that arises from wisdom and healing, the use of unique skills, a certain amount of desire or willingness to take on the hard tasks, a sense of being uniquely suited to lead, to contribute to the group, and/ or to innovate, and an understanding of Nature and one’s position within it. In its essence, this NM is like a culmination, bringing together long-term developments within the individual Being and fitting them to a new role in the life situation—so that’s what’s born at this time, a new way of being and seeing ourselves, and this may come about through stress, conflict, a recognition of nature in our lives, or a need for unique Self-expression.

(A side note here: when I write of nature, our interaction with it and our role within it, I’m talking in large part about the way biology intrudes on consciousness; I’m talking about instances where a physical experience with a biological component such as learning one is pregnant, suffering a career-ending injury, or being diagnosed with cancer can change our way of relating to the world, can change our approach, our actions, our feelings, and even our beliefs)

Paul Klee ‘The Golden Fish’ {{PD-Art}}

4 AM PST of the 18th the Gemini Moon trines Ceres and quincunxes Mercury, making emotions flow in words and thoughts, and expressions of power and co-operation with authorities come ‘naturally’. Easy communication of what we feel happens without any effort–but if we want to keep our feelings to ourselves, better to spend a few hours in isolation, as Merc in Scorpio, Ceres in Libra, and Moon in Gemini are all motivated to share, and just can’t hide what they think. 8 AM PST the Moon sextiles Uranus; sudden shocks, surprises, and emotional outbursts may accompany intellectual exchange or group involvement. 9:30 AM PST the Moon squares Chiron and quincunxes Pluto. Destructive choices or rage hurt inadvertently–if we choose to see these as transformative, instead, we may find significant healing within what feels like an otherwise negative situation. 4 PM PST the Moon trines Juno and quincunxes Venus. Empowerment rests in being flexible, largely with ‘the rules’ we are used to in relationship or values. In this case, bending with the breeze is good, and won’t make for any permanent change, which is the fear that sparks our resistance in the first place. 9 PM PST the Moon quincunxes Saturn and trines Zeus. Now we’re asked to be flexible with reality itself, in service to fulfilling our ambitions or desires. Okay, why not?

Today’s image is a goldfish–swimming not in a bowl, but in the air! There’s something surreal about events and perceptions today–try to take it all in without reaction or judgment, and let all but what’s crucial to you in the moment go.

On the Eve of the 3 November Solar Eclipse, A Refresher

'Dance at Bougival' Renoir c1882 {{PD-Art}}

‘Dance at Bougival’ Renoir c1882 {{PD-Art}}

The Solar eclipse occurs 3 November at 4:49 AM Pacific Standard Time (the shift back to standard time in the US occurs just hours before the eclipse) at 11 Scorpio 15. This eclipse occurs in tandem with Saturn, and there’s a whole parade of aspects: sextile to Pluto, square to Juno, trine to Chiron, wide quincunx to Uranus and closest of all, a sextile with only 4 minutes variation from Mars in Virgo.

Saturn’s presence indicates one of two alternatives for each individual experience: either we manifest materially a facet of the eclipse, or we suppress its manifestation or our awareness of its manifestation.

Whatever begins at this time may facilitate change and healing, and will certainly spur action, but it may bring up empowerment issues (others’ say over us, status, our own need for empowerment and whether this is fulfilled, respect between partners, and so on) and we may feel a little bit punished or otherwise required to adjust for expressing our most unique qualities and for touting our individual viewpoint.

One way or another, we will need to adjust our own position vis à vis others, particularly those close to us, who are supportive, or who actually partner with us. This, then, is the birth of a new phase in both interactions and our own view of ourselves, and this is especially and specifically so in terms of the action we feel is appropriate, that we feel capable of, and that we feel we may take on our own. This may be the biggest effect of all: a new idea of how we can act within the world–and of course, that can’t help but change just about everything.

The Solar eclipse may be both a start of new (possibly experimental) ways of acting and interacting, as well as a lesson in the way we are interdependent. No matter how original, unique, or independent we are as individuals, this eclipse may make clear that those choices, insights, and actions we make hold no meaning without being placed within a larger social context, without a connection to others, without engagement in a mutual ‘dance’ in which we all participate.

This is a partial analysis of the Solar eclipse of 3 November, taken from ECLIPSE; subscribe to get it all!

Just a Little Lunar Essence: the Lunar Eclipse 18 October 2013: I Am

‘The Head of a Woman or Goddess, Perhaps Demeter’ My question was, isn’t that the same thing? Sculptor unknown, Marble, from the Trajanic period 97-117 Courtesy of Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles California US

The first eclipse of the set is Lunar (a Full Moon) and falls at 25 Aries 45, arriving at 4:38 PM PDT (and for those of you who are tickled by synchronicities, I called the chart program up at precisely 4:38 PM, so that when I went to the correct day, there was the eclipse, already perfected!) We use, of course, our very strict orbs (that always somehow seem to get stretched!) so that the only aspect made is a quincunx to Ceres.

The singular event for this Lunar eclipse centers on a Full Aries Moon that is in uncomfortable aspect to the asteroid named for the goddess in control of the seasons, of nature itself, and with a powerful sense of territoriality and the strength to negotiate with even the most formidable opponents (in Ceres’ case, that was Pluto).

An Aries Full Moon marks the culmination of personal, individual effort, making a statement of the ‘I Am’ in no uncertain terms; we expect this statement in the natal House where the FM falls, and it’s purpose is Self-assessment, through a lens of completion: ‘I know I am ‘x’, because I have done ‘y”.

The Ceres quincunx suggests that the eclipse event of ‘I Am’ must take into account some power player, perhaps a woman of influence or authority, perhaps simply a human-shaped force of nature, or possibly an entity that feels they have say over our world, to the point of dictating our circumstances or negotiating our permissions, or another with whom we must ourselves negotiate in determining territory and reach. It may be someone from whom we have sought ‘permission’ of one kind or another at some point, who still believes your Self-statement is subject to their approval. It’s one of Ceres’ less endearing traits that someone strongly identified with this role may not clearly see her own legitimate boundaries–and this is something those involved with the lady (no matter what form she comes in) nearly always must negotiate for themselves–in this way contact with Ceres may challenge us to establish our boundaries to others, to announce our territory, or to say what or who we have dominion over–certainly an ‘I Am’ statement of the first order.

To see the complete eclipse report for both upcoming Lunar and Solar events, please subscribe!

Just a thought, morning of the 17th: Should we expect Mother Nature to act up? Maybe–with Ceres in Virgo, earthquakes may be the thing, but does fiery Aries promise lava? We’ll see! Sounds like a ‘scorched earth’ policy, in some important sense.

See other takes on the eclipse here, here, and here

'The Soul of the Rose' Waterhouse 1908 {{PD-Art}}

‘The Soul of the Rose’ Waterhouse 1908 {{PD-Art}}

We begin the 10th with a Sagittarius Moon, and a Void that begins at 3:12 AM PDT and ends at 8:18 AM PDT with the Moon’s entry into Capricorn. 1 PM PDT the Moon sextiles Neptune and semi-sextiles Venus. This may help soften what can be a harsh take-down of a dream, a fantasy, or even a relationship, as the emotional sensitivities are rallied in support of that dream or ideal. We may have been disabused of something unreal at its core, but this contact allows us to intuit or to feel the reason it was necessary to see the truth of things. Just after 3 PM PDT the Moon hits the midpoint of Venus-Juno; again, a situation that starts out as female rivalries or that confronts status issues or the costs and benefits of empowerment options can be smoothed over with a little intuitive understanding. 11 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Pluto and sextiles Chiron. It’s the urge to purge in an attempt to heal ourselves or others–but think carefully before indulging; as much harm as good can come from ‘getting it all off our chest’. Emotional changes instituted internally can heal long-standing issues–it’s interactions where we must be sensitive.

Today’s image is an old, floppy stuffed animal, sitting in a neglected golf club bag, in a dark, dusty corner of a closet. We all have things around the house that have fallen into disuse, sometimes because their time with us is past, sometimes because we have changed how we spend our time–yet we keep these things, not really thinking about them, not really noticing they’re there. It’s time to let go of some things we claim we’ll get back to ‘one of these days’; it’s also time to recognize that some things are better given to others, for whom they’ll be meaningful and bring joy. What we rid ourselves of today may be figurative or material, but ideally it will be both: this is our opportunity to let go of old things, and old patterns, not for the purpose of filling these spaces with new stuff, but to provide space to move, to breathe, to live, to remove the clutter that keeps us from fully being who we are now.

This is a sample of the Lunar and Daily Image portions of the ECLIPSE Subscription for the 10th; get it all, including free mini-lessons and low-cost readings available only to Subscribers!
