Carducius Plantagenet Ream ‘Dessert No. 4’ c1865 {{PD}}

Your weekend sampler, featuring a too-long cake metaphor, a slice (again!) from the article on sibling relationships, and a little glimpse ahead, but just a crumb–have a great weekend!

Today’s image (for the 18th) is a pink cake box, like the kind you get from the bakery, containing a crushed cake and discarded on the freeway on-ramp. This is a sad image; who is so angry or unhappy or spiteful that they moosh a perfectly lovely cake and throw it out the window of a speeding car? Someone who doesn’t like the good things in life, that’s who, someone who is not willing to accept pleasure–and they don’t want anyone else to have any enjoyment, either. Is there someone like this in your life? If so, consider that they may ruin everyone’s cake out of deep sorrow, perhaps out of a belief that they don’t deserve life’s cake. If you find it in yourself, you may want to offer them a slice, and let them know that they really do deserve it–all we have to do is be alive to deserve it!–and we can all have our cake, after all.

Anything posited in the 11th adds layers to the interaction, and typically focuses major attention in 11th House matters. The Moon here, for example, may suggest we see our own mother, those who seem maternal to us, or those with whom we empathize as friend material; an emotional connection may be essential to viewing an individual as a friend, with this placement, and could dominate interaction. So how do our sibling interactions influence our later interactions with friends? Even if there are no other connections, Whole Sign Houses give us the same element in both 3rd and 11th House—and further, we get the same element on the 7th of Others, with all three Houses offering both personal and group or ‘other’ related viewpoints for the chart individual. This implies that the way we relate to friends and groups is very much like, even modeled on, sibling relationships and early childhood experiences (which also fall in the 3rd). With the elements connecting the Houses, we can’t help but translate our experiences in the matters of the earliest part of life (the 3rd) into later events and experiences as our horizons and contacts widen.

19 July are our relationships or finances not fitting smoothly into our reality, or must our reality modify itself to accurately reflect the Truth of our relationships or financial situation? That’s the question we’ll wrestle with all day. (Perfecting today: Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn)

20 July sees us discover the down side to our expansion attempts, our social role, or to knowing what we know; somehow we are seen as responsible for darker elements that are in reality way outside our control. This brings a form of public judgment, an episode where the social circle makes a pronouncement about us—and there’s nothing we can do about it. Just know that what’s communicated is more revealing about the thinking of those making the assessments than it is about you or your choices. Too, our own thinking is influenced by things we’re not aware of—and pushes us in directions we might not anticipate, to undetermined effect—and that could be the same influence that’s causing others to make those judgments of you. (Jupiter contra-parallel Pluto, Mercury semi-square Sedna)

This is just, as it says, a sample–please consider subscribing! Thanks!

3 AM PDT of the 16th the Pisces Moon opposes Pallas. We may be inspired or just deluded, but either way we may be tempted to ignore the smart thing to do. Don’t. 10 AM PDT the Moon forms the base of a Finger of God with Sedna, catching the South Node at the midpoint, apex the North Node and Ceres; the Moon also trines the Sun. We sense what we can’t really see, something linking us to the past, and this informs both the future and our sense of personal authority and power. Our vision is clear at this point, so that anything we conclude, even when it’s gleaned from unconscious sources, will be accurate and informative. 12:30 PM PDT the Moon creates another Finger with Sedna, this time with an apex of Mars and Vesta. What we’ve sensed now prompts action or choice; the good news is what we act on or choose is directly in line with our truest values. 5:30 PM PDT the Moon squares Venus. Our sense of the creative or a need for escape is in conflict with relationship or financial needs. Don’t blow something important just for a few hours off, but do note the need you feel at this time: it’s indicative of some itch that can cause trouble if it’s not eventually scratched. Void begins at 5:59 PM PDT; the Moon enters Aries at 9:07 PM PDT and immediately trine Jupiter fresh in Leo. We may have an excited and expansive feeling about the social scene or from knowledge just gained; this is a great way to kick off the Moon in Aries, as this confidence and excitement primes us for Aries flavored action.

14 July our own inner sense of authority determines our Path—it’s very simple—though those who don’t entirely accept that their life direction is truly in their own hands may insist that there are things they can do nothing about—and when we dissemble like that, the Universe typically complies, giving us a few things we really can’t do anything about—so don’t be that guy. Too what we think may need to adjust to the reality of the situation; reality shines a bright light on what is, reveals cleanly what isn’t, and expects us to accept it. (Perfecting Today: Ceres conjunct the North Node, Mercury sesquiquadrate Saturn, Sun sesquiquadrate Neptune)

Today’s image is an outdated swipe-card hotel key from another city, found in your winter jacket pocket. You have the key to something, but does it really matter anymore? You may be past the point when having it would make a difference. This points to the potential for putting energy into things already over, decided, or that are completely history–recognizing this allows you to re-channel the energy to something useful in the present, and allows you to really be present.

10 July is one of those times when it feels like there are undercurrents sweeping us this way and that, while on the surface matters are kind of clunky and hard to manage. Actions must deal with reality; there’s no room for delusions or deception, and successfully taking action means we face and modify anything that isn’t firmly rooted in the real world. This will definitely be harder on some of us than on others, but in any case what happens now will shape the Path for some time to come.

We’ll also feel a nasty or power-seeking riptide in communications; knowing the real message is hidden will help us believe what we’re sensing and answer appropriately (and don’t let someone’s indignation that you took it that way throw you off—trust your intuition at this point). And after all this, a rainbow: what we focus on at this time becomes our reward, so be sure you have your ideals in Love and Money in mind—because they’ll be at the door, knocking to come in, in no time. (Perfecting today: Neptune and Mars both parallel the North Node, Mars sesquiquadrate Neptune, Mercury contra-parallel Pluto, Sun parallel Venus)

Just a Little Something from ECLIPSE 4-10 July 2014

Here’s a little something from ECLIPSE, on finding the parental influence in the natal chart through contacts to the personal planets and lights–in this case, we’re looking at Pluto:

Pluto—this is the symbol of what’s commonly known as ‘The Devouring Mother’, but that’s too narrow a definition by far; this is really a designator of a power figure, male or female, who overwhelmed the individual, and likely persuaded them that, whatever energy Pluto contacted was not to be theirs; the typical indoctrination involves framing the energy as destructive, as likely to obliterate the individual if she or he engages with it. Who would tell (or imply) something like this to a mere child? Sometimes it’s done out of fear, in an attempt to protect, but just as often it arises from rage, an attitude that says, ‘If I can’t have this, neither can you!’ When this is the voice we carry in our minds, we are likely forbidden to even think about the energy too much; we have been so conditioned to see it as, essentially, death, that we avoid it actively. As we see others access it, though, this leads (at least at first) not to accessing it ourselves, but to rage of our own at being denied something we see others have: we in essence become in attitude the mirror of our caretaker in regard to this subject. The classic example is Venus square Pluto, which traditional literature calls a denial of Love for the individual until they learn to be loving. I find this a misunderstanding of the dynamic at work: the individual appears to not understand Love and to behave badly because of it, but they are actually reacting to the denial of Love, in that they are raging at being denied what they see everyone else have. They are not devoid of Love themselves, but so afraid of it (and in some cases this applies to money/ assets, too) that they dare not approach it. Remedy begins when the individual first tastes genuine Love (not romance) and finds they don’t die; dramatic as it seems, that’s what it takes to show them they can not only have it, that they are worthy of it—and that is the essence of the positive Plutonian Archetypal form, the ability to be powerful and unafraid, and so abandon the need to rage and destroy.

All the free subscriptions and sub extensions have been awarded; thanks to all for participating–I received far more entries than I expected–what a great surprise!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

28 June: 6 AM PDT of the 28th the Cancer Moon squares Vesta-Ceres. We care about something and that caring conflicts with our highest values and/ or will get us in trouble with authorities. When does this happen? When we love someone who will lead us down a bad path, when we know that the right thing to do is also wrong in the eyes of the establishment, when we are betrayed and have always believed we would walk away in this situation, but find ourselves staying against all better judgment. How to assess our position? We need to make caring about our own welfare top priority; if being involved in the situation means we won’t be respected in some way, it’s time to go. 2 PM PDT the Moon sextiles Sedna and catches stationary retrograde Mercury at the midpoint. Merc is paused for direction–he may act as the outlet for the emotional ‘blind spot’. Watch your own communications for what they can tell you about hidden feelings or motives within you; careful observation should be quite revealing. 5:30 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Jupiter. Feelings are exaggerated; someone may insist they care more than is reasonable. Look for what they might get out of taking such a stance. Void begins at 6:03 PM PDT; the Moon enters Leo at 1:43 AM Pacific time of the 29th.

Today’s image is a chocolate bar shared among three strangers as they wait in the pouring rain for a bus. Sometimes it’s just nice to be nice, you know?

29 June: we are aware that there’s a danger we could base our actions on past hurt, but we should know that the real influence is buried feeling, instinct, and hidden matters—not that that’s necessarily better, or worse! Adding to our, what? confusion? is a strong sense that relationships and financial matters are not what they seem. The way to handle this discomfiting influence is to channel our energy into a purely creative project, one that does not depend on others, or on obtaining new assets, before going forward. Work with what you have; action brings forward skills, draws inspiration from the unseen, and could, eventually, pay. (Mars quincunx Chiron, contra-parallel Sedna, Venus square Neptune, Sun trine Neptune)

Weighing Libra

Being Fair; Giving In—Or Not; Judging, and feeling they have the right to judge (reflected by Saturn’s exaltation in the sign), Libra assesses everything she contacts, and sets the standard for aesthetics, partnerships, for the worth of things, and in many ways, that’s her place. Libra is a set of contradictions: appreciating but wanting more; generous (insisting on sharing!) but also insisting that everyone else shares equally, as well; thinking about the other—but in the context of the Self; cooperating—but only if you do, too!
What appears to the onlooker to be indecisiveness is anything but; when asked to choose, Libra must ponder, weigh, and extrapolate. One of their strengths that’s often overlooked is that Libra thinks (it’s an Air sign, we musn’t forget) everything through to the bitter end before venturing an opinion or committing, which means once committed Libra’s loyalty is fixed, like its element. Libra’s completeness of thought is a plus mistaken for stupidity, timidity, or no preference at all—but Libra always has a preference—how could a being ruled by aesthetics, beauty, and the worth of things not?
Libra is seen as a social sign, but that isn’t quite right—it’s just me and you, not a crowd, and if we’re not speaking (a favorite tactic of Air signs), then a partnership with an unhappy Libra can be a lonely place, indeed.

New Moon at 5 Cancer 37 on 27 June: Creativity and Its Pitfalls

The Cancer New Moon trines Neptune, and with some leniency for non-Ptolemaic aspects, we can count it as semi-sextile the Juno-Venus combo in Gemini. This makes for new beginnings that are strongly emotional and are relationship, values, information, or communion-oriented; it also may generate emotion-driven creativity, inspiration, and imagination that have an agenda of furthering communication and caring. What we musn’t overlook, though, is that relationships and empowerment issues (especially whose ‘rights’ are granted by whom) will play a bigger part than we expect; they will act as an undercurrent, and issues of status, control, and emotional ‘territory’ will loom large in expression of NM energies. One important thing we must note about Juno-Venus is the potential for co-opting others’ resources, energy, relationships, or even ideas (the Gemini placement), as well as the possibility of jealousy surrounding creative energy expression. It’s not pretty, but it’s a whole picture, one that can equip us to create and protect our creation—for certainly that’s part of the Cancer mandate, a facet of nurture and care—and surely we know by now that to reject the darkness is to invite it in, sit it in the best chair, and give it a muffin.

For more, please subscribe–happy New Moon, and have a great weekend!

Certainly more dramatic than a burst pipe. ‘Fisherman and the Siren’ Knut Ekwall {{PD}}

1 AM PDT of the 25th the Gemini Moon squares Pallas. What we’re thinking may be at odds with what’s wise–let feelings break the tie. 3 AM PDT the Moon fills in the base to a Finger of God with Black Moon Lilith, apex Pluto. It’s time to look at emotional secrets, those things we’d hoped to keep hidden, and deal with them for good; the payoff will be a clean slate, and maybe a little power. 9 AM PDT the Moon trines Zeus; our intuition supports our ambitions, and act as an excellent guide. 11 AM PDT the Moon sextiles Uranus and trines Mars. We act (or talk about acting) but surprise ourselves or others with the unexpected, the innovative, or the original. Go with it. 1 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes Saturn and squares Chiron. We may find ourselves adjusting the surroundings to fit our wounds; protect yourself, but realize too much coddling may actually prevent healing. 5:30 PM PDT the Moon trines Vesta-Ceres. We connect with what’s important to us through feeling–and behind that we find power.

Today’s image is a burst pipe. This brings to mind the unexpected gush of emotion, the kind of feeling that overwhelms and simply won’t be contained. There is something that is nearing this point with you, something you feel strongly about–and haven’t adequately expressed. Find it and let it out, before any damage is done.

‘Nine Greyhounds in a Landscape’ Jacques-Laurent Agasse c1807 {{PD}}

Today’s image is a small cloth patch found in a parking lot; the patch has an embroidered number, a six–or is it a nine? Is there a situation in your life that can be seen in two completely opposite, and completely valid, ways? How do you know the ‘right’ viewpoint to take, in order to deal with things successfully? We can see it this way: one option is the viewpoint of responsibility, of obligation and duty (the six), while the other is about completion, signifying an ending, a time to turn away from the subject (the nine). Now consider the two opposite viewpoints; which side should prevail in this matter in your life, service and obligation, or an ending and a clean break toward a new start?

Paul Signac Femmes au puits 1892 {{PD}}

Paul Signac Femmes au puits 1892 {{PD}}

21 June we enter a period when passion overtakes hesitancy, reticence, and possibly common sense. We believe in ourselves, in our instincts, in our ambitions, and in our ability to love, and all this equips us extraordinarily well to go forward, as long as we are connected with our own instincts and harbor no hidden destructive tendencies or rage. Those are some important conditions at this time; lack of success springs directly from going forward without following instinctual prompts, or if we are in denial about an angry agenda that seeps in and poisons the well of our efforts. Thoughts and the mentality itself may go ‘round in a circle, as we could think compulsively about what we’d like to avoid. Remember, fixating on what we don’t want will have the opposite effect, drawing it straight to us. Our attention shifts at this time to what we nurture and care about, and physical energy is deployed most effectively in disciplined, contained, constructive efforts that have us coloring, at least most of the time, within the lines. (Perfecting today: Jupiter sextile Sedna, Mars conjunct Zeus, Venus sesquiquadrate Pluto, Mercury semi-square Black Moon Lilith, Sun into Cancer/ Earth into Capricorn)
