Today’s not the day to ask, ‘What’s in the box?’ Even if we get an answer, we won’t interpret it correctly. ‘Portrait of a Girl with a Patch Box’ By Philippe Mercier 1760 {{PD}}

The 23rd Is A Good Day To . . . see that lines of reasoning around what’s ideal, what’s worthy, even what’s real, aren’t functioning as they should; clarity eludes us and our own thoughts, especially about what we want, what’s worth keeping or seeking, are difficult to grasp or generate barriers and ‘reasons why’ we should or shouldn’t go forward. The result is a kind of limbo we may not be aware we’re in! Creativity may suffer, as we throw out the masterpiece or take efforts in an untenable direction, and our sense of what’s possible is distinctly distorted, erring toward the pessimistic and the suppressive.

The best option is to take a step back and make no big, definitive moves just yet. Just one day from now a Finger of God forms, with base of Neptune-Pluto, apex Venus. This ought to help us define for ourselves on the 24th and 25th what matters, specifically what needs to go and what matches the ideal, especially creatively, and so should go forward. Until that point we can’t imagine what we really need to, can’t figure out what to measure it against. See your thoughts today as not fully formed or informed, and have the courage to wait.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

Full Moon 1 September 2020 Suspension

‘Dubrovnik bei Mondlicht’ By Eduard Kasparides 1915 {{PD}}

The first thing that draws my attention is the tidy sextile of the Full Moon in Pisces to Uranus, and the second thing is the loose Finger of God with base of Moon-Earth sextile Pallas and apex of Vesta; there’s also a close sesquiquadrate to Venus in Cancer. Though the FM makes no conjunctions among the bodies I use, it does sit in a kind of suspension between Neptune and Ceres; I’m aware this isn’t a true midpoint picture, but somehow the overwhelmingly watery nature of the Full Moon scenario seems to ask that we notice this, maybe even more than the precise sextile to Uranus in Taurean Earth or the quincunx to Fiery Vesta–or maybe that’s the point, that being cradled as it is between two strong indicators of Water/ Nature may suggest that these qualities are prominent in the relationships among the closer FM aspects. It does land at the midpoint of the current Saturn-Black Moon Lilith square, describing the Full Moon events as representing a point of tension in all that we ignore, deny, or are enraged by in the reality picture or in current restrictions, rules, or assertions of authority.

The deets: perfection occurs at 10:22 PM PDT of the 1st at 10 Pisces 12. The aspects suggest a resolution to stresses, especially emotional ones, triggered by fuller understanding (Uranus), which leads to greater wisdom (Pallas), resulting in a solidification of highest values and commitments to those values (Vesta). This will be very welcome, considering how we live in a kind of suspension at present, one consisting of the threats from a water-borne, communicable, difficult-to-contain virus (Neptune) and the reactions of Mother Nature Herself, via the effects of global warming, on-going food availability, production, affordability, and distribution issues, and the vagaries of Nature in terms of weather and planetary health, which have taken a decided uptick in extremity and impact on both the ecosystem itself and on humanity.

That Finger could also bring sudden accident or surprise to which we have to respond practically or wisely (the latter translating as ‘doing what we know we should, rather than what we want’), with the outcome a freshly realized dedication or new commitment (perhaps unexpected, and possibly arising from the way something else ends at this point courtesy of the closures that typically accompany the Full Moon)–or perhaps this need to respond smartly comes from our own or others’ rebellion–which may or may not successfully lead us to a clearer understanding of and dedication to our highest values.

The sesquiquadrate of the Full Moon to Venus in Cancer is troubling, though. It calls us to immerse ourselves in our relationships, to swim in our feeling, to relate to financial situations or assets emotionally–and yet when done through the Piscean lens of the Full Moon in difficult (sesquiquadrate) aspect we are likely to be overwhelmed or to find upset that we or others don’t care enough, or that material matters may swamp us and make it feel as if it’s impossible to recover. Our fears in these areas, our relationships and our finances, are apt to be exaggerated–know that your perspective is off, and don’t act in these areas at this time, as you’ll surely misjudge the severity of the situation.

The FM’s semi-square to each component of the square between Saturn and BML suggests that real-world events, endings, or restrictions/ delays we experience at this point arise directly from circumstances we’ve ignored or denied–and that says that Full Moon occurrences offer us the chance to respond to these things (maybe even require it). The FM event is ‘pressured’ by the unrecognized, unacknowledged, and reality itself–which may give FM events the feeling of being forced, to at least some degree.

The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon is, ‘Men Traveling A Narrow Path, Seeking Illumination’. In concert with this we look at the source of the Full Moon’s light, the Sun Sabian: ‘In Her Baby A Mother Sees Her Deep Longing For A Son Answered’. These together suggest that we may find ourselves dedicating energies to a relatively narrow or focused Path at this time; this has the qualities of Vesta, which just so happens to be at the apex of the Finger, and represents our most revered values, causes, and principles. Expect to discover what is truly precious to you, particularly via the emotions, and then allow events to unfold, waiting a bit for emotional extremes to recede: what you’re left with will be what’s most important, what you should serve, protect, and support.

The 14th Is A Good Day To . . . look right into the abyss, and be ready to be poked in the eye by the powerful Finger of God with base of Jupiter-Neptune and apex of Mercury in Leo. This energy is going to feel personal, and the temptation may be to see yourself as the only one affected–that would be inaccurate. Big influences (Jupiter and Neptune) combine to deliver a message (Mercury) about each of us as individuals (Leo). In most cases, this is likely to read as opportunities within existing frameworks (Jupiter in Capricorn), when implemented with imagination, idealism, and/ or creative drive (Neptune in Pisces) will tell us something vital about who we are–and this is most likely something we’ve avoided knowing, with the Finger giving us a swift and slightly painful poke in the figurative eye–making us unable to ignore what’s being communicated (though acting on it is of course another matter).

What it all suggests about personal power and our own ability to act and choose may make us uncomfortable, but will undoubtedly hold wisdom and hint at both effective means of empowerment open to us, and point the way toward ambition and desire fulfillment. Is it a day to plunge forward, to roll the dice? Probably not, as the most important thing is to receive that message and then truly understand it–and that may not be easy as the conscious mind will surely fight this new, but potentially empowering, awareness.

A Good Day To . . . is based on the aspects perfecting on each day, Pacific time.

‘Mountain Peak with Drifting Clouds’ By Caspar David Friedrich c1835 {{PD}}

We see our options and our problems quite clearly, and the question becomes, will we succumb to some negative message from the past that we still carry of our unlovability or lack of assets, or will we take what we’ve learned in the past, filter it through a current ‘power role’ (even if that’s just your individuality), apply ideals, creativity, and spiritual character, and come up with an idea or three about what we should do today? Either we embrace ultimate responsibility for what we can do with our lives, or we sit back and blame the past–today there’s no in-between.

(Perfecting today: Sun conj Juno and both sesq Saturn, Venus sesq SN, Finger of God with base of SN-Neptune, apex Mercury)

Good day to . . . take a positive approach, not just toward others or circumstances, but toward your own ability to affect and shape your life.

For those born with the Sun at 29 Leo. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). Will you serve as your own authority this solar year, through to your next birthday, or will you abdicate, out of a sense that being in charge is too much pressure? Dear Leo, I’d like to say this won’t make that much difference, either way, but that would be a lie. If you take responsibility for yourself and your life, you can open the way to an astonishing number of opportunities; if you say, No thanks, you may spend (another?) year treading water, rather than moving forward. In any case, what comes at you won’t be easy, but your response to it will make all the difference, and dictate how your life will spool out for some time to come. On your side: your instincts, when they aren’t marred by emotion, and your ability to discern what’s an actual barrier, obstacle, or ‘STOP’ sign, and what’s actually an invitation to apply yourself. Good luck!

17 June 2019 Full Moon in Sagittarius: Denouement

‘The Banquet of the Officers of the St George Militia Company in 1627’ By Frans Hals {{PD}}

The Full Moon, at 25 Sagittarius 53, occurs at 1:30 AM PDT, and is apex to a Finger of God with base of Juno-Sedna–which sextile naturally catches the Sun, currently parallel to Mercury, at its midpoint. The only other viable contact is the Full Moon in (very) wide conjunction with Jupiter, its ruler. A Full Moon in Sagittarius brings a sense of ending, completion, or denouement, but one filled with optimism, that possibly presents new opportunities, and perhaps one that reveals needed knowledge, information, or ‘facts’, and these may either offer new directions to the individual or show precisely why the situation is viable no more.

Every Full Moon is a Moon-Earth conjunction, and this points up the way there is typically an emotional conclusion and a material one. Either we have a feeling reaction to what ends, or our feelings bring about the end of some physical situation, but in any case, there is both an internal experience and an external one, though certainly, the impact for one or the other varies with the individual. Some will feel the event is solely internal, others only external, but it benefits us to look at circumstances and try to draw the thread that connects our emotional state (of which we might not automatically be aware) and what’s happening, especially what’s coming to a close, around us physically.

The Finger suggests that what concludes arose from stress, in the clash between our status or a role that empowers us or where we can express ourselves, and our own instincts and our inability to follow them. Somehow our responsibilities, especially if we feel a certain amount of resentment or anger surrounding them, may be the foundation for this; our denial of those instincts, of our own needs or wants, is too powerful at this point to be dismissed–and so the events of the Full Moon appear, as the psyche manifests before us, possibly in exaggerated but also in informative ways.

We need to exercise caution: we may be acting from our ‘blind spot’, from some area or on some issue that we believe we understand or have dominion over, though in reality we don’t. We might also be mustering our instincts out of hurt or vengeance–remember, Juno didn’t take that disrespect dished out to her lying down.

The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon is, ‘A Flag Bearer In A Battle‘. The flag bearer is essentially a non-combatant, even though this individual risks just as much as anyone else out on the battle field. We may feel that we are simply a standard bearer, that we are ‘letting everyone know’, and so not really involved in the battle–and this tells us that’s a false perception, likely offering us a false sense of safety. And maybe that’s what we learn with the Full Moon events: that we can’t hold ourselves separate from the tumult around us.

The purpose of a flag bearer in battle is to help orient the soldiers to where their forces are gathered, and to how far forward, or how much in retreat, they are at any one time. So, for some of us this Sagittarius Full Moon may be a marker of sorts, one that tells us how much progress in ‘the fight’ we’ve actually made.

Dominique Lang ‘Matin d’hiver’ 1916 {{PD}}

The Sun, always vital in a Full Moon scenario (how else would the Moon shine?) has the Sabian, ‘Frost-Covered Trees Against Winter Skies‘. This suggests to me that Full Moon events were either set in motion last winter, or if we look carefully, we will see their origins there. At the time we may have had the impression that related matters (maybe even our feelings) were ‘frozen’–now we know they’re not.

No matter what happens at this point, we learn something, facts or how we feel–that’s the beauty of Moon in Sagittarius.

For those born with the Sun at 26 Gemini. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). This solar year for you, dear Gemini, may bring some a number of endings, especially emotional ones, and it may ask you to find a role in life that both empowers you and allows you to show and make use of your vibrant inner life. That’s a tall order, when most of us are just trying to make a living, but you have the capacity this year, through to your next birthday, to create/ find the perfect spot for you. As a natural consequence, this will change many things in your life, but I’m guessing you’re more than ready to show more of who you are, even as you heal your sense of yourself as a unique and interesting individual. Good luck!

12 May 2019 Getting The Finger

Today Juno and Mercury-Hygeia form the base to a Finger of God, apex Ceres, and there’s another Finger, with base of Ceres and Pallas, apex Mercury-Hygeia; also keep in mind that Mercury is contra-parallel Black Moon Lilith. Fingers hold a promise: if you can get the two base energies to work together (and the sextile indicates they are disposed to work harmoniously), then your result will be of the nature of the apex placement. Whether that’s good or bad, in your judgment, isn’t stated, but since I believe the Universe is always operating in our favor, I tend to interpret it in a positive light, while still acknowledging that there is a possible down side, as well, represented by the fact that both base energies contact the apex body by quincunx. The quincunx is an angle of contact of 150 degrees, with an orb of no more than 2 degrees in either direction. This relationship between entities always implies discomfort or discord, as each feels a need to adjust expression to the other, typically without finding accommodation. That means that the two harmonious energies that form the base get along, but that the outcome of their combining creates some sort of strife or anxiety, expressed through the apex energy.

In ‘getting’ a Finger configuration, we are offered a dynamic, and its outcome, without specifically laying out how this will be achieved, other than through interaction of the base entities. So, with the apex Ceres Finger, we’ll likely see healthy thinking, either about literal health and nurture or concerning security and safety (Merc-Hygeia in Taurus) as it’s carried out, through our personal venues of empowerment, possibly where we ‘mother’ ourselves or someone it’s our duty to care for (Juno in Cancer). The result is personal authority, a claiming of territory or dominion, especially dominion over another for whom we are responsible (Ceres), and this allows us one of several things: we are empowered to reach out, beyond our normal scope, or we learn or discover the facts, and bolster our power that way, or with this result we see our belief in our right to have power reinforced, or we may find ourselves empowered to negotiate in a way we haven’t been able to before. The result is power enhancement that carries a Sagittarian tone–but, what we have to keep in mind is that this doesn’t arise smoothly out of the sextile, but comes instead from some sort of discomfort generated by our need to know, to express power, to acknowledge our belief and its ‘rightness’–that is, to express Ceres in Sagittarius–with the possible implication that this isn’t nurturing or ‘healthy’, as we’ve been expressing these qualities.

The Finger apex Merc-Hygeia is based on the power of knowing, information, outreach, belief, or in vested authority (Ceres in Sag) blended with the wisdom of cooperation, diplomacy, and partnership (Pallas in Libra). Together, these create a way of thinking about material assets, comfort, supplies, security, or talent expression (Mercury in Taurus) that arises out of some discord between the personal authority we hold (Ceres) and what’s wise (Pallas) and may bring into question whether our efforts are ‘healthy’ or not (Hygeia–and that means healthy in the way those efforts do or don’t harmonize with our current ideas of what’s wise, or what’s a positive expression of our power). The contra-parallel of Mercury to Black Moon Lilith adds dimension; our thinking may be plagued by all that we’ve been ignoring or denying, or we may find ourselves enraged by the fact that we must even question our ideas of our own privilege, the concepts of cooperation and partnership, or what, in the overall scheme of things, is truly wise.

Setting the table for your year ahead. Art by Peter Ilsted {{PD}}

For those born with the Sun at 22 Taurus. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). The world is your oyster this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, Taurus, as long as you can bring yourself to cooperate with those who can ‘make it happen’ for you. That means you’ll need to know the score, have a good grasp of the facts, and be optimistic, even if that’s not your natural default. Fairness will be of paramount importance, so don’t ignore the needs of others, and do set needed limits and claim your power as your own. Being unafraid to make changes may be key, and don’t balk at carrying a little more responsibility–that leads to both more complete understanding and more extensive control. Good luck!

4 May 2019 New Moon in Taurus: Healing Through Instinct

‘Cures’ come in many forms.’The Last Message’ By William Hatherell 1917 {{PD}}

If I had to sum up this New Moon day, including the non-Lunar related aspects, I’d call it Healing Through Instinct. This is the form of instinct that knows our wounds, and so our needs, that is aligned with our ideals, highest values, and most sacred feelings, and that calls upon both inner wisdom and personal authority (the latter in the form of both a sense of understanding and an awareness of one’s domain). This is the inner voice that speaks for the Soul, and for your truest intentions; it’s not always easy to tell it from the voices we’ve incorporated from caretakers and authorities, or that express contrary and Self-destructive impulses, but today, we can be assured that the inner voice, the inner impulse, is very much our own, and expressing in concert with our highest aims, to make some sort of New Moon new start, one with a Taurean flavor and so likely having a material aspect or impact.

The Sun and Moon meet at 14 Taurus 10, at 3:44 PM PDT of the 4th. The New Moon as a singular occurrence is very much a conscious one; it’s the accompanying non-Lunar aspects that add subtlety and instinct to an already intuition-raising event. The event itself makes a semi-sextile to Vesta, a novile to Chiron, and forms apex to a Finger of God with base of Pallas-Ceres. The contact to Vesta insures we are aware of our values specifically because either the origins of the New Moon event or the event itself contrast mildly with our stated, conscious standards; this requires a confrontation with the primal wound, and shows (via the novile) a genuinely brilliant way this can be healed.

As the apex of the Finger, the New Moon is in some way the outcome of knowledge or facts (Sagittarius) that support or express our personal position of responsibility or authority (Ceres) and that then engages in cooperation or exchange of this wisdom or practical information with others (Pallas in Libra). This New Moon may manifest as an event of inner healing that has an unusual external component; this healing is facilitated by the partner or well-meaning others, in some way utilizing the acquisition and sharing of knowledge, and the clever way it discomfits our values and beliefs, challenging us to re-shape them, just slightly, in order to fit their real-world expression.

These two are meeting the world with style. By Beinecke Library – Flickr: [Photograph of a man wearing a top hat and a woman with a lace overskirt], CC BY-SA 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=16215370

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon is, ‘Head Covered With A Rakish Silk Hat, Muffled Against The Cold, A Man Braves A Storm’. In this instance, I take the symbol to be an example of how to face what comes up at the New Moon: even if it’s difficult or uncomfortable (the storm), one should not only dress for the occasion (be prepared) but should take a daring, confident, and even playful approach to trouble, which in this case is likely the wound that needs healing and the circumstances that brought it forward. That is, don’t take yourself or your problems too seriously; a sense of proportion and humor will bring benefits and spark inventive solutions that aren’t available to those who are reverent of themselves.

(Add to the New Moon influence the perfection of Juno and Venus novile Sedna, Mercury parallel Sedna and sesq Ceres)

For those born with the Sun at 14 Taurus. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–that offers a more complete picture of your year ahead). The year offers you a fresh emotional start, dear Taurus–will you take it? Or will you insist stubbornly that the course you are already on is the only smart way to go? Because that wouldn’t be smart at all. See this coming Solar year as a chance to start fresh with yourself, and to re-make your relationships in the image of your highest ideals. What you find sacred should be your guide–but again, don’t be stuck, be willing to admit when those things you are honoring by rote no longer make sense–and as well, admit what in your life needs to be added to the pantheon, to be given more regard than it is right now. Good luck!

I want to talk about each set of perfecting contacts today, each as it’s own discrete influence. First: can two measurements, theoretical energy points in space, interact? I suppose so; consider that we measure effects of moving bodies to the places bodies occupied at our time of birth, so why not two places currently unoccupied but considered meaningful? That would be the North Node quincunx Black Moon Lilith. This suggests modifications to our current direction that happen either because we ignore or deny something, or because we are so angry with something, with an injustice, that we can no longer continue as we are. Then there’s a Finger of God, Sun sextile Pallas, both quincunx Sedna, which promises that attention to what’s wise, what’s smart, what’s practical, and/ or to exercise of skills, fine tunes the instincts and puts us on track, informing our efforts with what we ‘know but don’t know’–it just takes trusting and doing as our inner wisdom describes. Mercury conjoins Vesta and sextiles Mars, aligning our thinking, despite the retro, with our highest values–but also implying that once the retro’s over, we may not be happy with the choices or actions we based on current thinking.

I think for each of us, just one or two of these will figure prominently–but which one or two will matter to any one person we are likely unable to pinpoint just yet. So, tuck them all into consciousness, and do your thing–if you need one, it will surely pop up and help you as you go forward.

By Carroll Jones III, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=46450858

Today’s word image is looking up and out the window of a church, at the Sun. To me this image speaks of two ways we as humans have recognized divinity, one by actually worshiping the Sun and its gods, and second by building structures dedicated to the divine, supposed symbols of our respect. In what ways do you recognize divinity in your own life? What do you consider sacred, and how do you behave differently with those things than with others? For astro hints, check the state of Vesta in your chart. Here you can see an example of how Vesta can work–

For those born with the Sun at 27 Pisces (check your natal chart for your Sun degree!) It may feel like you’re a little bit alone out there, just dangling in the Cosmos with no safety net–and in a way, you are. That feeling doesn’t last all year, but it’s powerful while it does, and may drive you to do a thing or two you don’t really want to, just to try and break the impasse. Don’t–be patient–because once it breaks open, it breaks open good, offering healing and a kind of emotional reckoning that may be painful but that will ultimately be a huge relief–and so open the way for a whole new way of seeing, doing, and being. Don’t fret–when the time comes, you’ll be guided by equal parts instinct and wisdom–you’ll know exactly what to do.

‘Study of Gneiss Rock, Glenfinlass’ By John Ruskin 1852 {{PD}}

We enjoy some extraordinary connectedness today, which I’m anticipating may lead to some extraordinary synchronicities, with the most exceptional thing being that much of this will arise out of stress, extremity of circumstance, the need to choose, do or die, and the compulsion to resolve things before they bust or break!

We act, reach out, or attempt, and the degree of our woundedness in relation to our efforts determines whether we tap into genius, something unique and original to us, or wallow in base emotions like revenge; in either case, we learn what’s smart, but in some situations, this knowledge comes too late.

It’s hard to wrap our minds around the current reality picture, especially the one surrounding our own effectiveness and the extent of our autonomy, but experience and instinct are on our side, and as long as we are willing to actually think about things, particularly examining what we’ve ignored or denied in our pursuit of goals, we’ll come out the better for it, and what’s more, likely a little bit more healed than we started the day.

(Perfecting today, bodies at 29 degrees in config: Chiron sxt Juno, catching Uranus at the midpoint, these three base to a Finger of God with apex Pallas; Mercury sq and Saturn sesq Juno, also sxt Uranus catching Chiron at the midpoint–also Mars parallel Uranus and sq Nodal axis, Mercury nov Hygeia, Sedna trine SN, Sun conj Black Moon Lilith and trine Zeus)

Setting the table for your year ahead. Art by Peter Ilsted {{PD}}

Happy Solar Return to those born with the Sun at 20 Aquarius! (Evening of the 8th-evening of the 9th). Ambitions run high this year, and if you find the right compadres, partners, or support circle, you can make those dreams a reality; too, the desire nature is strong and, unless you’re careful, may run the show. Finding the right people, and getting your own aims straight, may not be as easy as it sounds, though, because you’ll have to deal with every little thing you’ve been ignoring, have denied, or that has enraged you but that you’ve left untouched. An eventful year, where the inner and the outer worlds are both very active, and likely, at least once or twice, to clash.

The New Moon occurs at 11:20 PM Pacific Standard time of the 6th at 15 Sagittarius 07. This New Moon falls square to the close conjunction of Mars and Neptune in Pisces, which adds an active ‘punch’ to discovered facts, new journeys, new beliefs, new horizons, fresh starts, to knowledge exchanged and the exotic or foreign revealed. The NM beginning may arise from an action, choice, or assertion that carries ideals, creativity, or delusion, or may be the cause of such; in either instance, the event of the New Moon brings conflict or tension to a head: action or a choice based on a dream (Mars-Neptune), for example, could bring upset for what facts it uncovers or beliefs it reveals (Sagittarius).

The New Moon also sextiles both Black Moon Lilith and Pallas, though it doesn’t fall at their midpoint, suggesting the interactions with the NM are unrelated to each other. The New Moon carries the aura of wisdom or practicality, or may call on you to use skills, and its new starts may also be driven by material that’s been denied, that’s enraging, or that’s perceived as unjust–and though we each may respond to both sextiles, my sense is one or the other sextile will predominate for the individual. Too, if you have a natal placement at 13-15 Taurus your natal body is apex to a Finger of God with NM and Pallas as its base, steering you in the direction of a smart beginning or revelation that inspires expression of the natal energy–or if you have a natal placement at 13-15 Cancer, you have apex to another Finger with base of NM and Black Moon Lilith, which points to the New Moon stirring up or making undeniable what’s been shunted aside until now, forcing you to deal with the situation using the natal energy.

We also have a loose configuration, a Fist of God, with base of Uranus square the North Node, apex the New Moon. Here the individual clashes with her or his own life direction, possibly rebelling from a long-planned route. Is this a good rebellion, freeing the individual from unfair restraints? Or is it a rebellion led by the insistence on seeing the Self as independent, or as ‘special’, trying to prove uniqueness via erraticism or an uncooperative attitude? This likely plays in tune with the Merc direction, described below.

The New Moon also rests at the (very rough) midpoint of the Venus-Vesta square, suggesting that the NM event may carry the essence of the clash between highest values and wants. With Venus in Scorpio and Vesta in Aquarius, the primal nature of both what’s revered and what’s desired may be displaced digging for a ‘Truth’ that may or may not differ from the surface, and in intellectualizing what’s better felt through New Moon experience.

All the aspects suggest at least some effort (the sextiles), or friction (all the rest of the aspects) occurs, and that may be the place to focus: on the ways in which we are causing or using the available energy. Don’t think of it as energy going out, so much as an undifferentiated flow, ebbing and surging all at once, so that we are receptive (Lunar energy) as much as we are active and choosing (square to Mars, all hard aspects).

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon is, ‘Sea Gulls Fly Around A Ship In Expectation Of Food’. The birds are looking for sustenance, but what does the presence of sea gulls say to the sailors? That they are near land. This is an image of promise, beyond the survival needs, to arrival at a ‘new destination’. This suggests that the land we find ourselves in post-New Moon will be solid, whether it’s familiar or unexplored, verdant and populated or a deserted wasteland, welcoming or forbidding.

Mercury also goes direct today, ready to perfect a Water Grand Trine with Chiron and the North Node. That suggests that wounds and/ or the opportunity to employ skills figure strongly in thinking, and so in shaping the life direction. We find emotional balance in this regard, probably surrounding the mentality finding a ‘groove’ and falling into it. Sometimes a subdued rhythm to life is the most desirable thing imaginable.

Outlook for the 5th is here–scroll down for previous days. Have a wonderful New Moon, and please consider making a book purchase, rating my books on Goodreads, or rating my astrology on Facebook–thank you for your participation and feedback–it’s all very much appreciated!
