Étienne Tournes -‘ La Toilette’ 1874 {{PD}}

What goes on Saturday the 4th is concentrated on the New Moon and the beginnings it offers, with only mild influences from other contacts–those other contacts first: Juno is contra-parallel Ceres, suggesting power struggles over who holds authority, and possibly some Willful demonstrations of trying to move the immovable; and Uranus semi-squares Vesta, suggesting it may be tough for those on a rebellious or independent streak to honor what they truly care about (read: some may transgress, in the name of ‘being myself’). So we enter the weekend with lots of struggle, much of it internal and aimed at exercising our Will. Then comes the New Moon.

Conjoining of Moon and Sun in Gemini perfects just a hair (that’s a technical term!) before 8 PM PDT of the 4th at 14 Gemini 53, and happens to have Venus conjoined by degree, but still not yet perfecting her meeting with the Sun. This triplicity is trine Zeus, loosely sesquiquadrate Juno and Black Moon Lilith in Scorpio, in wide quincunx to Pluto, and square Jupiter and Neptune and opposed Saturn-Earth, these latter four bodies constituting that Grand Cross we’ve been so caught up in. All this suggests that the new beginnings of this New Moon are intricately connected to the experience of the Grand Cross, specifically concerning issues of ambition and desire as they concern ‘the Other’ (Zeus in Libra), of digging for the reasons behind personal empowerment or its lack (Juno in Scorpio), of exploring (or being forced to explore) what we may have hidden, been in denial of, or been enraged by (BML in Scorpio), and what, if anything, we can do to alter circumstances (Pluto in Cap).

The New Moon event is thus simply the outgrowth of what has been gestating/ developing with the tension of the Grand Cross, particularly as this applies to the social role or attempts at expanding one’s world (Jupiter), the current reality (Saturn-Earth), and the creativity or clarity of connection to reality (Neptune), and all in terms of how this plays out in relationships and/ or finances. In short, we find out something about ourselves, about what we want, and who we want, and how effective (or not) we’ve been at getting it.

The best thing, though, is that we may be able to look at ourselves in the mirror and, no matter what the Grand Cross has revealed or delivered, see the beauty and worth reflected there (Venus), with new ideas occurring (Gemini) as to how that beauty and worth matters to our world. If we have an iffy relationship with Venus, we may be able to make peace with her now; an ability to Love Ourselves may emerge that adds incomparably to a positive interpretation of our own gifts and Beingness. Those who have a too-Venus oriented view already may find themselves judging the worth of everything around them, and so devaluing the Venusian intangibles that help balance our relationships and our view of the world; this is the signal to step back, and see that not all that holds worth can necessarily be seen.

‘Two Girls Playing’ Peter Ilsted c1900 {{PD}}

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘Two Dutch Children Talking To Each Other, Exchanging Their Knowledge’. The fact that these are children in the symbol right away tells us that the knowledge these two are sharing may be incomplete, lack nuance, or could be innocent of the darker side of matters, though an exchange of what’s known is exactly what Gemini energy is made for. That could imply that information acquisition is a vital part of the New Moon event, but should perhaps be accepted with some caution: despite honesty and good intentions, what we receive may not be as sophisticated or complete as we really need. And why Dutch children? At the time these symbols were received by Elsie Wheeler and Marc Edmund Jones, the Dutch had a reputation (at least in the U.S., where the symbol divining occurred) for a spare, clean, direct, and a little bit cheap approach to life (phrases like ‘going Dutch’ are still in use, though I’d like to point out that stereotypes are just that, with no relation to real people or cultures), and that suggests that within the symbol we may be dealing with bare-bones knowledge, things that are certainly true, but that don’t carry the shades of meaning needed to truly understand something–or, that something important has been held back, a ‘cheap’ attitude toward info sharing. The implication is that what is conveyed by the New Moon is somehow incomplete, and knowing that will prevent us acting before we’ve acquired the details and shading that will give our knowledge necessary depth.

By the 5th we see both the Sun and Venus completing a sesquiquadrate to Juno, and yet they have not yet perfected conjunction themselves. This lends the day an outward-looking attitude, one that may tangle with, even challenge, the empowerment or assertive rights of others, from a sense of Self-satisfaction, a ‘knowing’ of who we are, that feels a bit like superiority–but as long as we also recognize Mars novile Zeus, we can subdue the ego in clever ways that get us what we want, and still allow others to do the same–and this is probably the ‘Go!’ point that what we learned about yesterday (per the Sabian Symbol) and were waiting for.

‘Jardín de las Elegías’ Santiago Rusiñol c1903 {{PD}}

There’s an ongoing T-square with Sun-Venus opposed Earth-Saturn, all square Neptune, that by 3 June transforms into a Grand Cross with the inclusion of Jupiter. The tension here, though it starts benignly enough (with hope, charity, and an eye to freedom), becomes immense; we may go from the possibility of realizing our dreams to an optimism that is close to bursting–and yet the material situation repeatedly challenges us, as what the reality picture calls for is in some way contrary to our need for Love, Reward, or both. Through roughly the 6th we’ll see various parts of the equation come to prominence; one day it may be the way an important relationship (Venus) conflicts with what must be done (Saturn-Earth), the next day it may be that opportunity (Jupiter) can’t be grasped without loss of current income or flow (Venus), and the next may see the same or another opportunity that requires we give up our dream (Neptune, with the severity of all the demands and conditions put on us shown by the hard aspects and the involvement of Earth and Saturn–they say, material matters get a starring role in all this, especially the factors that make up our current real-world picture).

Imagination is pummeled by the facts; belief is put to the test, either through the challenge of manifesting creatively, or in facing delusions; the social circle stomps on dreams, even as, or perhaps as a condition of, the individual being loved; the need to support the identity creates expenses where payment may be intangible, extracted through a need to suppress beliefs, to pull back on material matters, or to ‘put up or shut up’ in the creative realm; relationships or financial factors may require we trim or abandon the current dream, or may ask us to change our beliefs to match reality; we may have to face that dreams are too big, unable to be manifested adequately in the material world, or we may put the brakes on material demands in order to pursue the creative and the Soul-expressive–and no matter what, we find that tension, discord, or stress, internally or externally applied, drives the movement of the Cross. It’s a period, represented by this configuration, that’s unusually potent in the way it can illuminate potentials and actualities, showing us both how to work with them, and how to bring about just what we desire, with major revelation expected with the New Moon. For a scant few, this may end up translating as an insistence on embracing the unreal, the illusion, as the belief system and/ or the identity break down in the face of the facts.

For the 1st the emphasis is on seeing the dream clearly, or observing accurately the condition of the creative life, or what we imagined the world to be–and we are able to articulate or think about this with unusual foresight concerning how it may play out into the future, and how in its current state it will affect our life direction. Thinking is spot on, as long as we are pondering matters from a sense of security; if we are feeling at all insecure, especially in material matters, we will inevitably skew ideas and conclusions in the direction of what’s comfortable, rather than what’s true (Merc in Taurus trine NN, Sun-Earth axis in T-square with Neptune)

Today’s word image is a fountain gently burbling in a garden. Close your eyes and see the fountain, hear the water splash, and feel the warm sunshine and the cool shade play on your skin. See, don’t you feel better? This suggests rest, meditation, and contemplation, fully appropriate as we enter Dark of the Moon.

Eva Gonzalès - 'An actress with a mask' {{PD}}

Eva Gonzalès – ‘An actress with a mask’ {{PD}}

The New Moon in Aries is conjoined Uranus–does that mean what begins at this time is a spark, a surprise, an explosion, a riot, chaos of the highest order? Perhaps, though it could also be a new start, a modern approach, or a radical solution, and could portend group involvement or, conversely, suddenly having to ‘go it alone’. Look for the effect in the matters of the House of the natal chart where the NM falls–and then look to see if it fills in a pattern with your natal energies.

New Moon in Aries April 2016

The NM square to Pluto says that placements at 16-20 of Cancer or Libra draw you into a tense NM situation where the arm of the figure (the part not involved in an opposition) provides the answer to resolving the tension, particularly through the matters of the House this body rules (if any). If one has a natal square at those degrees of Cancer and Libra, the New Moon and transiting Pluto fill in a Cardinal Grand Cross, and likely present you with a crisis in action–one that either rises from the New Moon beginning (or is itself the New Moon beginning), or one that takes the usual way of dealing with the square, then destroys and transforms it into a new way to use the natal energies (and since Pluto has been nearby a while, the destructive process could’ve occurred some time ago, with the solution only now arriving).

Natal placements at 14-20 of Leo receive membership in a New Moon Grand Trine utilizing transiting Saturn. Here a NM event brings balance, stability, or materializes concretely the energy of the contacted natal body; peace may be found, a restlessness removed, or something intangible finally finds expression through the material, and there’s the potential for ending a destructive or power-oriented ambition or desire.

The New Moon-Uranus is also opposed Zeus. On the one hand this can bring ambitions and their fulfillment or lack thereof into that difficult T-square or Grand Cross described above; it can also show as a rejection of previous ambitions or desires, as a new personal (Aries) viewpoint emerges.

This is a New Moon, and that means any or all of these effects could be temporary, a stop gap or destined to evolve over time; especially for those with no contact to natal bodies, who experience it in ‘purest’ form, the New Moon may bring a surprising energy, a sudden burst of Willpower or the need to assert the ‘I Am’ in matters of the House where it falls, making a statement about Self-assertion and identity, ‘out loud’ if above the horizon, a whisper to the Self if below. Other influences for the 7th are the availability of healing messages (Mercury nov Chiron) and a sense of ‘being lucky’, seeing opportunities right away, and confidently asking the Universe for ‘more’ (Sun parallel Jupiter).

Vasnetsov_samoletThe Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘The “Magic Carpet” Of Oriental Imagery’. A flying carpet has always been about transport, a physical mechanism that takes us on a journey that shows us the world from a new perspective. That’s one of the more practical functions of imagination, so we might expect to see Neptune in the New Moon equation–but only if we look very carefully will we find it.

The New Moon falls equidistant from Sedna and Neptune, at their midpoint but outside the normal Ptolemaic measurements, and even outside the minor connectors. The aspect is both relative and relational, a connection that would normally go unnoticed, and maybe that’s the point: the New Moon brings a new perspective, one that stirs the creative and that draws on knowledge related to the primitive and the instinctual carried deep within consciousness (Sedna); we may believe the influence shaping the new viewpoint is entirely Self-conscious (Aries), but what occurs may be more subtle, and more hidden, than we know. This new viewpoint may be born from larger events (those created by contacts to the natal picture) or may arrive by refuting or defining particular desires or ambitions, by changing the current landscape through material expression, or may bring something significant (and possibly destructive) to a halt, with the discovery of this new way of being who we are, this new ‘I Am’.

I love the take on the New Moon at Robin’s Window

The word image for the New Moon is a glamorous, heavily beaded dress that loses a bead now and then as it’s worn. We might be very upset at the idea that what is essentially a work of Art isn’t remaining intact, but if we realize it’s a kind of ‘living Art’ in that the damage comes through normal wear, we might accept this as the evolution of the piece, its expression coming at the cost of perfection–and understand that the scars and losses and changes that come from living carry a perfection and beauty of their own.

See some examples of beaded gowns here–

This week’s tip:

Grand Square-Mars and the Sun are filling in a config with Chiron, Black Moon Lilith, and Pallas, which will last through sometime late Pacific time on the 14th. This takes our own particular stew of wisdom, ignored or denied factors, rage or perceptions of injustice, and energies dedicated to hurt or healing, and gives them energy and purpose. This combo can take us forward quickly, either into a morass of trouble, or on an active and smart path to healing–our choice, of course, with the determining factor how much the ego is involved in our choices.

There’s a current Cardinal Grand Square with Earth-Zeus, Pluto, Sun-Uranus, and Jupiter. This brings four contrasting inclinations into contact, and probably conflict: material ambitions, change or the existing power structure, a need to be seen for the uniqueness and originality of our Purpose, and the social sphere. Each of us may experience a different equation involving these elements, but the overall meaning is one of better defining ourselves, especially knowing who we are and what we want. That’s a very good thing to know, in anticipation of the Grand Cross and the eclipses. Make sure you’re honest with yourself and others about what you need and want; if you’re not, it will not only make it impossible for the Universe to deliver what you need, it will also mean what you’re hiding won’t remain a secret for long–and even if it’s modest or mild, information hidden comes off like we’re trying for deception–not the best for either finding your tribe or fulfilling your Soul’s intent.

This is from the current issue of ECLIPSE; see it and order here–

'The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed With the Sun' William Blake {{PD}}

‘The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed With the Sun’ William Blake {{PD}}

This is an excerpt from the Grand Cross article in the current ECLIPSE:

The aspects don’t actually perfect all at once; in fact, I don’t think that’s possible, with Mars traveling in the opposite direction to the other three, and with Pluto-Uranus being exact on the 21st and Jupiter closest to them on the 20th. Mars is the hold out; every other body has to wait for him to create the Cross (a very Martian, ‘the world revolves around me!’ attitude!) though by the time he arrives, Jupiter is already poised to flee and Uranus and Pluto are parting So, the T-square is actually stronger prior to hooking up with Mars, and that implies that, depending on where in the personal chart each arm falls, we may already be in the midst of developments when the Martian energy arrives—and that suggests that things that have occurred have accumulated so that, with Mars in the picture, we are prompted to choose or act definitively on the concerned circumstances.

Something to consider in the personal chart is that two of the Cross factors will be below the horizon, and two above; this means that the above horizon elements are much more likely to involve others directly, to be ‘visible’ to onlookers, to involve contact with the world, institutions, businesses, or to involve one’s own job or vocation. The below horizon elements are much more likely to be processed at an internal level and to drive one’s own impulses and choices but not necessarily be obvious to others.

We can speak in general of what one of the energies above or below the horizon might mean, always keeping in mind that the particular House it rules in the natal chart, as well as its natal situation and any aspects it’s currently making to natal factors, can all figure in to meaning. For instance, Jupiter in Cancer above the horizon in the Whole Sign 10th=the broadcast or public ‘reveal’ of sensitivities, knowledge, beliefs, or the Jupiterian facet of the Cross/ T experience comes from others or is ‘out in the open’ in some way, definitely affecting the reputation or career; Pluto is then below the horizon in the 4th, suggesting that the change, upset, destruction, rage, or transformative facet happens on the inside or ‘close to home’ in some way, and may be a factor in what’s revealed, in this case coming either from the deepest Self or through the family relationship or actual living situation.

The Essence for the 1 July 2011 Solar Eclipse: A Diamond’s Potential

We start July off with, what else? That third eclipse! It’s a Solar (New Moon) eclipse, at 9 Cancer 12 on July 1st at 1:53 AM Pacific Time. As usual, we stick to a tight, 2 degree maximum orb–but are overruled by a compelling configuration.

Though it’s slightly outside our usual parameters, the fact that this is an eclipse begs for the inclusion of a Grand Cross, made up of the Sun/ Moon combination opposed Earth/ Pluto, squared by the Saturn/ Uranus opposition; no other bodies fall within our strict two degree, major aspect rule. What does this indicate?

The most obvious implication is that the eclipse kicks off a Cardinal Cross ‘crisis’–but crisis just means some combination of stress, opportunity, and action–the important part might be that, with the Sun/ Moon filling in the Cardinal T-square to a Grand Cross, it funnels the power and energy of an eclipse into an extant aspect–and possibly blows it up.

The most likely manifestation dynamic is this: the crisis will be set off by some matter of the House in the natal chart where the eclipse itself falls; this will in turn ‘light up’ the Cardinal T. In the most general terms, we are likely to see in our lives change to structures, rules, or boundaries and/ or partnerships that seemed permanent or permanently stuck in the present form, with the ‘revolution’ driven by a unique expression of Self-Will, or by the way the individual is compelled by the group.

The Sabian for the eclipse degree is: ‘A Large Diamond in the First Stages of the Cutting Process’ This suggests it’s either the start of a process that will bring forward some facet of ourselves we’ve never before known we possessed or it will bring forward a new matter (or life situation or structure, possibly in relationship) about which we will care in a major way (Cancer placement).

The Full Moon, March 2011, ‘Birthing Uranus in Aries’

19 Saturday Mar 2011

'Super Moon', Full Moon, Moon in Virgo, My Weekend Astro Diary, The Astro Essence

Until he's 'birthed,' revealing himself, Uranus in Aries may be very much like an iceberg, with the majority of his energy hidden Frederic Church {{PD-Art}}

Virgo Full Moon arrives at 11:09 AM on the 19th at 28 Virgo 47.  We find the Nodal axis still within the Cross and Neptune/ Ceres at 29 Aquarius quincunx the Full Moon and Earth, and Uranus is opposed the Full Moon (and so conjunct the Sun) from the Aries Point–and those are our only aspects, but oh, what aspects!

A Full Moon is a culmination of energies; we all know this, right? The problem is that we say that but may not recognize that culminations mean endings, but that we don’t or won’t necessarily recognize an ending when we see it! This is one of the weaknesses of monitoring our own energies with astrology:  we are in danger of expecting certain things–and along with expectations come assumptions about what those things will look like. So, to let go of our assumptions may play a big part in successfully knowing what is coming to an end–and that may not be easy with the pressure of the Nodes in play (forcing the attention toward our destined direction–about which of course we carry even more assumptions!), with the rebellious energies of Uranus trained on expressing individuality (and as a consequence failing to look beyond the Self), and with the involvement of Neptune/ Ceres, calling forward every fantasy, delusion, and mommy or authority issue in our repertoire. So that’s the challenge with these aspects: if we meet them in a mundane way, in an ordinary state of mind, they act as more of a distraction from the ‘business’ of the Full Moon than anything else.

The Sabian tells us how important it is that we meet this energy in an ‘elevated’ state of mind. The symbol for the Full Moon is ‘A Seeker After Occult Knowledge Is Reading An Ancient Scroll Which Illumines His Mind’  The symbol implies that the Full Moon holds the promise of a means of discovering hidden spiritual knowledge, as we act in the role of Seeker. But, this knowledge is a finalization, a conclusion, a putting-together of what we’ve been gathering, discovering, or seeking, perhaps our entire lives.

The illumination a Full Moon brings to Earth (our material circumstances) this time around is not only in opposition to consciousness (the Sun) as usual (meaning that the culmination indicated comes about without great conscious effort on our part–it brings to an end matters as part of a natural cycle, rather than because of our doing), but is also in opposition to Higher Mind (Uranus)–and this suggests that, though we need to meet the Full Moon energy in an elevated state of mind, what we observe as the result may be decidedly mundane–and this means that we may not recognize the culmination as what it really is, the accumulation of our seeking efforts as they play out through these particular influences. Even more vital to note, this Moon may trigger the ‘birth’ of Uranus in Aries–it may, through a mechanism of conclusion or ending, ‘make room’ for the Uranus in Aries manifestation in our lives.

30 September 2010: Recognizing the Seeds

30 Thursday Sep 2010

Posted by juliedemboski in astrology, Ceres, current events in the sky, ECLIPSE magazine, Grand Cross/Grand Square, Juno, Pluto

≈ Comments Off on 30 September 2010: Recognizing the Seeds

We move in the wake of our power issues (see previous post for the 29th) all the way through 7-ish PM Pacific, when the Cancer Moon conjuncts the South Node, joining the Nodes in forming a Grand Cross with the Sun/ Earth axis, plus Saturn; the Moon goes from dealing with those very basic and intense power concerns (and even if you didn’t experience an obvious power situation, you likely sensed one, via the Moon’s intuitive function) to involvement in a heavy kind of life-direction-determining event. This all sounds very dramatic but for most of us it won’t be; it’s instead the small, quiet moment that changes everything–so even if you aren’t aware of a big, life-changing thing, you need to realize that there is something path-determining going on today. Recognize the seeds as they are sown, and that even small choices will reverberate.

A trine to Mars in Water forms in the 2 AM hour PDT of October 1st, suggesting that actions mesh well with the emotions; the trick here is to have already brought the emotional state into harmony with the personal intents (natal Sun). If the Self is vibing all of a piece (as they say!) one’s actions and choices will be supported and the intuition will guide. If disharmonies remain unconscious, are disregarded, or carefully swept under the rug, this aspect can mean it’s really easy to facillitate some bad ideas–or at least, act in ways that may be Self-defeating, in the long run.

By 4 AM PDT of the 1st the Moon trines Venus–and whether we’ve chosen well in our actions or not, we’re likely to feel good about it. It’s a bit odd, but not the time to worry about assessing effects or modifying results; instead, relax into the depth and beauty of Venus and the Moon complimenting each other in the feeling element.

Something remarkable is going on–and by remarkable, I don’t necessarily mean positive, but rather mean that things, mostly intangibles, are happening and require our notice–they need to be remarked upon–and yet, I think most of what we’re perceiving is coming through as an irritant: life seems like a downer right now, but most of us have great difficulty pointing to exactly why, as even our more undesirable circumstances show some obvious pluses. Everything is in flux (and I can almost hear some of you adding, still!) but I think the Ceres/ Pluto exact meeting on October 19th may explain a lot. See more on that here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-summer-2010-eclipse/ and see my new book on Juno, its meaning in both womens’ and mens’ natal charts and in synastry here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/ And Thanks to All who’ve supported the book in word, thought, and through purchase–it’s very much appreciated! Dark of the Moon Practice, New Moon Expectations

Dark of the Moon, Moon, New Moon, Psyche/Arcturus

sliver moonDark of the Moon begins late evening of the 14th, Pacific time (approx. 10:30 PM). A passive meditation on relationships (New Moon in Libra) may be in order over the days preceding the Sun/ Moon conjunction. Though a meditation in motion is recommended (this is a practice of being, with the meditation an attitude carried throughout the day) it may not be easy, as the Dark period likely keeps us thinking about relationships almost obsessively; for some, the obsession may concern one’s Art or one’s efforts at diplomacy, judgment, or fairness of issues. Even as we look to other subjects, those interactions that need attention or resolution continue to intrude. Putting attention on these subjects is very appropriate, but don’t pressure yourself to come to some decision or resolution. The period preceding the New Moon is a time for contemplation and passive consideration of what the relationship or issue needs–it’s not a time to leap into action, come to conclusions, or make pronouncements.

The New Moon of the 17th occurs at 24 Libra 58 at 10:31 PM Pacific, and the only aspect within one degree is a Grand Cross created with the Earth and Nodes. This suggests a dynamic start-point, a birth, a decisive energizing that affects the life direction. The Sabian symbol for this degree (courtesy of http://www.cafeastrology.com/sabiansymbols_degreemeanings.html) is “The Sight Of An Autumn Leaf Brings To A Pilgrim The Sudden Revelation Of The Mystery Of Life And Death” The image, too, suggests the importance of the moment in terms of a new understanding that affects the life destiny in major ways. Now, this doesn’t mean we should each expect our own personal lightning bolt–instead we may do better to approach the New Moon with the idea that we cannot know ‘the big moments,’ the turning points in our lives, in all cases, as sometimes they are quiet instants of reflection that quicken the intelligence and open our spiritual eye to some vital truth never before seen. This is what the degree promises: that the faithful seeker (the Pilgrim) will be given the spark of knowledge and comprehension that applies to key life energies, forces, or experiences. Not a bad promise, at all, and likely to be lived out over the time between this New Moon and the next.

It’s of note that the New Moon will occur exactly conjunct Fixed Star Arcturus (24 Libra 22), which long-time readers will know I use as Psyche, per Michael Munkasey’s persuasive suggestion. This may bring the issues Psyche dealt with (love of one she doesn’t completely know, curiousity that wounds the relationship, the jealousy and vindictiveness of other women, the opportunity to listen to the spirit and accomplish ‘impossible’ tasks, the awakening or resurrection to a ‘new,’ more powerful Self) to the forefront, especially for women.
