On the 13th at 4 PM PDT the Moon sextiles the Saturn-NN combination and is within conjunction of Pluto. This makes for some serious efforts to change reality and the Path to correspond to what we feel it should be. Step, and act, with care. 8 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes Mars, sextiles Chiron, and squares Uranus. This may feel like a poke in the eye; we think we’re being unique, original, or unusual, but our actions cause some unpleasant feelings, one way or another. Examine what the feelings driving the behavior really were; chances are we were acting out of some pent-up anger or frustration.

14 September an insistence on saying and doing whatever we want will have grave consequences. That is one extreme, of course; most of us won’t insist, but will almost certainly have to deal with someone who will. For everyone else the influence will show in various impulses to unique Self-expression that may be destructive, game-changing, or radical (and so perhaps reputation-affecting).

The Moon enters Aquarius at 5:06 AM PDT of the 15th. Just after 8 AM Pacific the Moon opposes Pallas and quincunxes Vesta. We are emotionally contrary, refusing what’s wise in favor of a (not entirely rational) sense of independence, fueled by the feeling that those things we are dedicated to aren’t serving us well, so why not blaze a new path? We won’t choose a good direction for our own expression and interests at this point–so just sit back and don’t react from an emotional stance, if it’s at all possible. Noon the Moon conjuncts Juno. At this time the emotions can lead us to reliable empowerment–just wait to act during the few hours that follow this aspect forming (that would be around 1-4 PM PDT), so that the previous contact to Pallas and Vesta is out of orb. 6 PM PDT the Moon squares the Nodes and Saturn and quincunxes Ceres. Now we’re cookin’! We can easily see how the path, the reality picture, and the power and authority picture must be adjusted for maximum benefit.

‘The Five Senses and the Four Elements’ Jacques Linard 1627 {{PD-Art}}

There’s a Mystic Rectangle this week involving the Nodes, Chiron, Saturn, and Ceres. This plays on two of the dominant themes this week, healing and ‘power progress’. A Mystic Rectangle acts as a kind of amplifier for the related energies, and this says that we can affect the life Path and the material reality if we master those healing and power opportunities. Lasts all week–and we add Venus to the equation late in the week, adding Money or Love to the possibilities. ‘The Great Pine’ Cezanne 1892-1896 {{PD-Art}}

This is the Daily Image for the 12th, from the Daily Word email subscribers received early on the 11th Pacific time:

Today’s image is a pine tree. Trees, of course, don’t move around; they bend with the elements, shed their leaves or needles and grow new, offer shade and fruit and shelter to those who need it, are witness to what transpires but participate only as much as someone else’s actions determine. Though this is essentially the opposite of what my counsel might normally be, I recommend that we behave in the same steadfast, non-reactive, tranquil and solid manner as a tree when circumstances confront or challenge us; being even-tempered and inner-directed (not basing our own choices on what comes at us) will prove remarkably effective in dealing with matters today.

‘Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf’ by Gustave Dore pre-1883 {{PD-Art}}

From ECLIPSE:

5 AM PDT of the 11th the Sagittarius Moon squares Neptune and sextiles Mercury. Here’s where the unclear and misleading (or outright deceptive) communications get started. The emotions behind the words will tell us whether the intent is creative, inspired, deluded, or the province of lying liars, and from there we proceed accordingly. The square to Neptune also kicks off a T-square with the Moon and Ceres; this tells us that in the end what shakes out is about power and control–you are forewarned. 7 AM PDT the Moon sextiles Juno, and we’re off to a good start in fulfilling our immediate goals. 1:30 PM PDT the Moon hits the midpoint of Saturn-NN and Pluto, giving us a glimpse of the emotional repercussions concerning recent changes to our reality picture and the way it affects the Path. 3 PM PDT the Moon trines Mars and initiates a Fire Grand Trine with Uranus. We see a period of balanced action, as long as we play the lone wolf and ‘do it ourselves’. 6:30 PM PDT the Moon squares Chiron. Take care or we could find old wounds flaring up and pushing out through the emotions.

‘Portrait of Maria Strijp’ by Johannes Verspronck 1652 {{PD-Art}}

No, it’s not as bad as the headline suggests–but you might want to read this excerpt from the current ECLIPSE and decide for yourself:

10 September Either we will be upset, or we will be the target of upset for others, and we may make some stupid and costly, life-altering mistakes because of it. I know, that sounds so harsh, but that’s what could happen, if we weren’t alerted to the ego and Will and the way they may inadvertently foster destruction today. We are just trying to get it done, but it’s not a day for significant change, and if we push forward anyway, we stir the rage of others and can see bridges burned behind us. What occurs within conflict will change our future potentials, and may even cut off resources from the past. Relationships may be more dramatic than we’re accustomed to and will not offer accurate feedback or good counsel–just don’t go there–and we could open our wallets and watch our money go down the drain. Downplay action, avoid agitation, and don’t spend or look to others for resources; a day best spent in quiet pursuits or hard physical work alone (though chances of injuring yourself, especially through strain, are high) (Mars quincunx Pluto, square the Nodal axis, Venus square Pallas and entering Scorpio)

Hercules Fighting the Hydra by john Singer Sargent 1921 {{PD-Art}}

Hercules Fighting the Hydra by john Singer Sargent 1921 {{PD-Art}}

It’s a nerve-jangly day, when we become critical based on our highest standards and are likely to voice this to the mate or partner, even as we struggle with some Saturnian beast. We may be so busy we feel as if we’re battling the Hydra (the legendary monster fought by Hercules; as he cut one head off, two grew back), but this is more about a change in atmosphere and perceptions than the struggle it seems. Align yourself with the new rhythms and things will soon become manageable.

2 AM PDT of the 9th the Scorpio Moon squares Juno, pointing out where the emotional hang-ups to empowerment lie. 4 AM PDT the Moon sextiles Ceres. We get support from authorities or Mom, or find our niche with Mother Nature. Sweet. 7 AM PDT the Moon conjuncts Saturn and squares Mars. We may be highly motivated to act, even as we repress the feeling that drives that action–a recipe for allowing the unconscious to take over, temporarily. 10 AM PDT the Moon conjuncts the North Node and sextiles Pluto. We make changes that affect the life Path in a Big Way, though they may not  appear to be much of anything right now–could be nothing more than saying, ‘No’ when we might’ve said, ‘Yes’ the hour before. 2 PM PDT the Moon trines Chiron, quincunxes Uranus, and we heal by a willingness to adjust our most unique qualities to the demands of discipline or leadership. This change can ‘qualify’ us for things we just weren’t ready for before. This also begins a Grand Trine with Moon, Chiron, and Jupiter that lasts into the wee hours of the 10th, with Chiron switched out partway through with Earth. In Water, this amplifies emotion and the need to soothe and heal, and with material comforts (food, alcohol, sex, a hot soak or swim in the ocean, for instance) ultimately sought out and experienced.

Recognizing the Absurd

Alexandra Day's 'Good Dog, Carl'

Alexandra Day’s ‘Good Dog, Carl’

When my girls were little we discovered a series of books that featured a babysitter named Carl and his adventures with the children he was tasked with watching. That’s cool, right? Except that Carl was a Rottweiler, and the children’s parents repeatedly put them in the most absurd, precarious, and dangerous situations without a care–as Carl would make sure it all worked out.

I loved these books; I have a keen sense of and fondness for the absurd, and I delighted in introducing my children to something so unreal. I still indulge in this, often asking kids of 6 or 7 if they’re married or have their driver’s license. They are old enough to recognize I’m saying a nutty thing, and it’s always fun to watch their reaction–ends up about half will laugh and say something like, ‘No!’ while the rest actually get a little angry, as if to say, ‘Why is this grown-up not playing the social game right?’

So is it just me, or are many individuals, and even larger entities, going to great lengths to convince others to accept the absurd? I’m looking at what’s going on in the sky right now, and we have one of the most solidly realist aspects imaginable at present, the square between Mars and Saturn, that brooks no nonsense and will nail all facts to the table–and perhaps I’m sensitive to the absurd v. the real right now with Mars and Saturn forming the base of a Fist of God with my natal Moon–ouch!–so what’s behind this for everyone else?

Maybe it’s the Ceres-Neptune opposition (Authority faces off against Idealism), or maybe it’s the approaching Finger of God with base of Pluto-Chiron and apex Mars–that’s like a Universal shout out for a Band-Aid® applied with a nail gun! It’s like saying, ‘We’ll heal through destruction, by wiping out the injuries (or maybe the injured!), and we’ll bring about that healing through martial means!’ Oh sure you will.

Usually I deal with the personal, so I think that’s how I’ll approach this question, too. With Vesta as current body of latest degree, we may find people are defending what they see as sacred, whether it makes sense or not, and whether it’s truly worth defending or not. The very idea that this is possibly what’s motivating us should give us pause–and spurred by the quincunx between Ceres and Juno, we might want to adjust our thinking about our own empowerment, and how much we do or don’t need the co-operation of authorities to achieve it. Jupiter and the Sun are in sextile, and Jupiter and Zeus are square; this shines a bright light on the social order, and through conflict on the ambitions and desires of those involved. This should give anyone willing to look a clear enough picture to determine whether we must go along with the absurd, or whether we can free ourselves, with a minimum of hurt (Uranus semi-sextile Chiron).

The Campbell of Glenorchy Family Tree by George Jamesone 1635 {{PD}}

The Campbell of Glenorchy Family Tree by George Jamesone 1635 {{PD}}

New Moon in Virgo  4:36 AM PDT of September 5th  13 Virgo o4:

‘All In The Family’

The New Moon in Virgo aspects Chiron by opposition, Uranus by quincunx, and Jupiter by sextile. This suggests that the fresh beginnings of a NM are involved with healing, or that they spring from healing which has already occurred; the idea with the latter is that now that we’re healed, we can go on to something brand new. The problem is that either the group or our own urges toward uniqueness or rebellion push us away from this new start, or align us with it in such a way that we sabotage ourselves. We can receive help from the social sphere, through knowledge shared, through publications that say just the right thing, or through prayer or counsel of a spiritual leader. But what is the new start, exactly? It may, in some way, have derived at least part of its meaning from that Moon-Pluto aspect of a few hours before; in stirring up the darkness, or the past, we have put the final piece of the current ‘new start’ into place.

The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘An Aristocratic Family Tree’. So, if there’s a group involved in our NM beginning, it almost certainly will be one’s family. With that in mind, it seems to me that we should look forward to some aspect of ourselves, harmed by family dynamics or the early environment, now healed, that is the basis or starting point for our own new and unique expression of ourselves in the social circle. A family tree makes us aware of connections, of the ways individuals are entwined, sometimes without much contact or awareness of one another. The point of a NM with this as a symbol may just be that all families carry the romance, the rise and fall of fortunes, the exotic or adventurous members, the successes and failures, that aristocratic families do. It may be our business to regard our own family this way, to find the nobility in it, to re-acquaint ourselves with the things that are quite special in our lineage. Surely these will figure in to our NM new start; something we’ve learned from them, that has been passed down, that is encoded in our DNA, will be an important part of what we begin at this time. Look to the natal House with Virgo on the cusp, and/ or the House where the NM actually falls, for hints as to the areas where your NM new start might occur.

'Tranquil Pond' Gustav Klimt 1899 {{PD-Art}}

‘Tranquil Pond’ Gustav Klimt 1899 {{PD-Art}}

A Lunar thought for today, the 30th, considering situations all over:

6:30 PM PDT Saturn, Earth, and the Moon create a Water Grand Trine. This can be a period when we feel personally security and at peace, as well as sensing that we have all we need. A lovely time of balance and serenity, if we do not exchange placidity for drama. Jupiter, the North Node, and Chiron also form a Grand Trine, this one too in Water; this suggests that a healing attitude on the social scene can affect destiny–that sounds like the perfect time to pray for peace.

And one for today and the next couple days:

At this time we’re also seeing a loose Grand Square with the Nodes, Saturn, Mars, and Juno. This is a conflict centered in who will get and retain authority, the kind of influence that will determine the paths of many. Though there may be contingents starring the assertive upstart, the established authority, and the individual or group who hold authority in name only and struggle to gain it for real, betting money should, in this instance, go on the established hierarchy, ‘boss’, or current power-holders–at least for now, they will prevail.

It’s all from ECLIPSE–support the blog, and get it all delivered to you!

This weekend it may be the strongest, most powerful people who will weep the most. ‘The Lament for Icarus’ HJ Draper 1898 {{PD-Art}}

From the just-out issue of ECLIPSE:

30 August Mercury in Virgo sextiles Jupiter in Cancer–and despite the flow of a sextile what we find is some aggravation and overly critical interaction, as a too-sensitive social sphere or power-figure overreacts to communications that are bald facts stripped of niceties. If this were a bad science fiction movie, it might be Robot Accountants vs. the Crybaby-gods (or maybe those are dueling gangs involved in a dance-off, à la West Side Story). In any scenario, individuals and groups may split off into cold, calculating (and maybe just a little sadistic) truth-tellers (or perhaps fact-flingers) on one side and powerful but totally playing the tender feelings/ vulnerable ego card on the other. Just be aware, both are attempts to run the show–winners wait for the Moon to shift from Gemini into Cancer (4:33 AM PDT), then use Luna’s sextile to Ceres in Virgo, which also captures Mars at the midpoint, to act from a secure position of appropriate power expression–no need to try to wring blood from a stone, as those identifying with Jupiter will do, or to punish with the unvarnished reality of ‘What Is’, as those identifying with Mercury will.
