4 Feb 2010: Self-Reliance

Tags

The lovely Moon enters Scorpio at 8:56 AM PST on the 4th; why, you may ask, do I call her lovely? After a trip through Libra, making so many easy contacts (trines through the latter half of  Aquarius) our Lady of Reflective Illumination is serene–until she enters Scorpio and emotions want to get big, via a square to Jupiter (4 PM PST), but the same aspect brings immediate feedback from the social sphere, shutting us down (and this may come through the spewing of ‘facts’ by those who wish to get the upper hand, a take on the Jupiterian value ‘knowledge’). The imperative now is to be open, honest, truthful, revealing (the positives of a strong Scorpio); exaggeration just won’t fly, and those surrounding us (Jupiter, Pisces) are not only looking to spar (the square), they’re perhaps holding themselves up as an idealistic example of how we should be (Pisces)–but we’re not buying it.

Hand colored woodprint by Samuel Coccius 1566

We can’t forget, though, that at the same point the Moon is making a sextile to Pluto, and this suggests that the way to handle a less-than-supportive environment is to make the effort to change it–maybe not the way of dealing that would be our first choice, but highly effective: if we give the situation our own structure, if we make the rules (Capricorn), then we can simply follow them, being Self-reliant–and leaving think-they-know-it-all others in our wake.

The Moon squares Mars in Leo, 9 PM PST, and only adds to the tension–clashes at this point tend to be over bruised egos, or one Being imposing his or her Will on another. Maybe getting to bed early is the answer; certainly, we’ll need our strength for the next day, as the Moon moves on to square all those energies in Aquarius–but at least we can look forward to getting the message, delivered with a strong dose of the reality we’re in the midst of (Moon sextile to Capricorn Mercury).

3 Feb 2010: The Airy Cardinals Have It

Tags

, , ,

The Moon moves through the latter half of Libra today, making a couple of startling (or exciting, or dismaying contacts, depending on your point of view): by 1 PM PST the Moon makes a T-square with the Nodal axis=the emotional perceptions are required to face the implications of the current Path; a square to Mars simultaneous with a trine to Venus and a quincunx to Sedna (3 PM PST)=emotions serve as the impetus to action, which is beneficial in some way, but the circumstances we create may be outside our ken at the moment–we just can’t understand the way this all will play out, or who it may affect; by 10 PM PST a quincunx to Uranus=the temptation to emotional rebellion is present, or we exercise our uniqueness and suffer emotionally because of it, or vice versa, we express emotionally and then find we must adjust in order to remain part of the group, or so that we preserve our true individuality. By 11:30 PM PST the Libra Moon trines Chiron and Neptune; it may be easy to succumb to hurt or delusion, especially in relationship–or we can be proactive (the Moon is in a Cardinal sign, after all) and put skills and imagination to work. With this aspect it’s very much a choice of approach that will make the difference–the key is a willingness to be responsible–then everything else falls into place.

Probably a Libra lady, 15th century {{PD-Art}}

If you’re heavy in the Cardinals, or have a lot of Air (myself, guilty on both counts) the day appears to hold interesting developments, so smooth and natural feeling that it’s difficult to say whether or not they’ll be of major impact; things might just move along at a good clip, with lots of action and mental activity. For everyone else, the trends are a grab-bag, largely filled with the same energies that have been around for some time now, punched up with impacts to the natal chart. The Moon begins her Void at 1:28 AM PST on the 4th, at which time we would be wise to retreat temporarily, let go the reins, and allow things to take their course.

2 Feb 2010: The Wisdom of Saturn

Tags

, , , , , ,

At 5:42 AM PST the Moon enters Libra and rushes to meet Saturn–why? She has no choice, and neither do we–by noon PST they’re solidly together, and we’re sensing ourselves suppressing feeling in relationship–and this is probably for the best, as the Moon will be square Pluto (like you didn’t see that coming!) inclining us to be destructive, either from resistance to change or from insistence on it, and the Moon has just made a quincunx to Jupiter in Pisces–and it’s likely that something in our social circle, or the Collective at large, has rubbed us the wrong way. We may not even be conscious of this, thanks to the Moon’s unconscious function, but we’ll certainly do the human thing and channel our irritation into the nearest outlet–which may be a relationship–and so we should, for once, thank Saturn for offering to put a lid on it, with the soon-to-follow sextile to Mars (6:30 PM-ish) keeping us more than ready to express ourselves throughout the day–and as we’ve seen, what we’re inclined to share is, for the moment, better kept to ourselves.

At around 9 PM PST the Moon slips into the midpoint of Saturn and Zeus, all three in Libra. This is a time when we have an excellent chance to balance our ambitions and desire nature with both the reality of our lives and our own cautious inclinations, all done through the emotions–specifically through reflection on our own emotional perceptions, especially as they come to our realization through relationships (Libra).

During the wee hours of the 3rd PST, the Moon moves on to conjunct Zeus–for those of us who are up at this time, no matter where we are on the globe, the emotions may feel a surge of Will, a forward-pushing wave where we may be tempted to assert ourselves guided by our own wants and feelings–just make sure that the emotional framework used is the most positive available–Self interests justified by unacknowledged need, anger, or other ‘unacceptable’ feelings may work against us, in the end, and bring about nothing so much as a tangle we’ll have to work hard to extricate ourselves from.

Though here in the daily astro diary I’ll concentrate on the Moon and her movements (other material on aspects, and emphasizing the asteroids, is available in the magazine at http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/eclipse-in-depth-astrology-for-the-21st-century/ along with this quarter’s other in-depth topics: Zeus theories examined in real-life examples, chart interceptions and their hidden meanings, and the historical perspective on two of England’s most memorable queens, sisters whose interaction holds a puzzle of its own), I’ll include occasional aspects here that catch my eye, such as the Juno exact T-square with the Nodal axis active now–this suggests we’ll be testing our own empowerment as it affects our life direction. We may hesitate, as we draw from the past and feel cautious, unwilling to risk upsetting the direction in which we’re moving; for others this same blast from the past will bring a surety from experience that propels us toward our goals. For all of us it will likely be a time of measuring how empowered we dare be in the face of all that our course demands, and is certainly a test of what we are willing to open ourselves to.

1 Feb 2010: The Virgo Way

Tags

, , ,

The Moon moves through Virgo and we all feel the attention put on detail–not necessarily with precision and fine work, but more in a ‘can’t see the forest for the trees’ kind of approach–we want to parse the nuances successfully, but a lot of other energies are getting in the way of unfettered perception, particularly the lingering Fist described in the previous entry https://juliedemboski.wordpress.com/2010/01/30/30-jan-2010-config-a-palooza/ and also because of the long-present Chiron/ Neptune conjunction–the question here might be, Does it hurt yet? because many of us have been walking around believing it doesn’t hurt, covering the wounding nature of some aspect of our lives with illusion or denial. Now that Jupiter has moved along, it’s much harder to believe the concoction we’ve devised as a distraction–we’re becoming aware of the extent of the damage, and the way in which there is something wounding we must acknowledge and deal with–and the Virgo Moon’s journey helps bring us one step closer to resolution.

Elizabeth I, the perfect Virgo in her role as ‘Virgin Queen,’ is discussed in this issue of Eclipse

First let’s look at a few other features of the skies above: Vesta in Virgo opposes Jupiter in Pisces, while Jupiter quincunxes Saturn, suggesting we’ll be faced with a real test of our values and beliefs, and must adjust reality to accomodate them; Venus at the midpoint of Ceres and Juno, and Mercury square Juno, placing relationships and values at the mercy of authorities and our own need for empowerment–this needn’t be unpleasant or have a bad end, so long as we don’t think sacrificing our standards or those we care for will bring us the desired power; and Mars is sesquiquadrate Uranus, implying that, as we’ve seen repeatedly of late, the ego is uncomfortable with the group, productive action vies with unconsidered impulse, and anger fuels an anarchic response in others.

So that’s a lot of potential discomfort, dicey decision-making, and possible chaos, isn’t it? The Virgo Moon at the very least helps to keep us sharp, or at least trying to stick to the goal–and that’s something we can be thankful for. The midnight hour PST of the 1st sees the Moon quincunx the Sun=emotions and intuition jostle with what’s illuminated for us–which do we believe, our inner senses or our outer ones? By 8 AM PST the Moon quincunxes Venus, trines Mercury, and sextiles Pallas=for West Coasters it’s quite a way to start the day, at odds with loved ones, telling it like it is, and feeling intuitively that this is the smart way to behave–and maybe it is, but we won’t find out right away, though the die will be cast by 10 AM PST when the Moon trines the North Node and quincunxes Juno=that says that what happens between 8 and 10 will have an affect on our destined direction, and that it may cause adjustments in the empowerment picture–just know that the events and choices of these hours will have a much larger effect than we may believe in the moment.

By 4 PM PST the Moon opposes Uranus, suggesting we won’t really be up for group endeavors, or that our own individuality urges may be something we’ll want to disown emotionally–and that says watch your reactions as being too insistent on having your own way may bring conduct you’ll be ashamed of (or at least regret) later. This sets the tone for the evening, until the Moon’s quincunx to Chiron and Neptune after 9–with any luck we’ll get some feedback on what the Virgo Moon has been trying to show us about that wound that’s been camouflaged until now. The Void begins at 10:36 PM PST–after that just sit back and get some rest, as the Moon’s entry into Libra brings it into the square with the Saturn/ Pluto dynamic duo–and we brace for another wallop of stress, likely through relationship. Moon enters Libra at 5:42 AM PST.

A big Thank You to all who’ve supported me and my work by purchasing the magazine–I truly appreciate it!

30 Jan 2010: Config-a-palooza

Tags

The interesting parts of today revolve around patterns of energy, specific interactions that may operate subtly, but will be what’s driving a lot of the action. The first involves the Nodes (with Mercury to the North Node), Pallas, and Sedna in a Mystic Rectangle. This promises a sense of fatedness around communications that seems wise (as in, it’s the wise inclination to follow the info we receive) and yet we will be unable to actually pinpoint what the influence is and how it’s affecting us. It’s a little like being buoyed along on a current that seems very fortuitous but the causes of which we just don’t grasp. If this is your experience it’s one of those times when relaxing and enjoying the ride is not just appropriate, it’s the smart thing to do.

There’s a second Mystic Rectangle, as well, that is really just forming, and will be much tighter in coming days as the Sun and Earth move forward. Besides the Sun/ Earth axis, this Rectangle involves Venus and Mars (conjunct the Sun and Earth, respectively), Zeus, and Juno. This definitely brings out the productive, profitable, and Self-expressive energies and targets them firmly in the direction of empowerment. This combination is likely to be the most conscious, and the dynamic most easily observed in others. There may be a tendency to identify with just one part of the Rectangle; for instance, everything for you may be above board and very much about yourself and relationships (Sun/ Venus), while you may see others as being aggressive and materialistic (Earth/ Mars) yet both parties are seeking empowerment and elevation (Juno, Zeus). Try to embrace all the involved energies in a positive form (for example, utilize Mars to get moving, and Venus to love, or seek and give reward), and judge what occurs in a spirit of inclusion, recognizing that what you see in others in also within you.

The final configuration for today is a Fist of God, apex Vesta, with sesquiquadrates to Mercury and Juno. This promises tension and a need to resolve communication and power issues by following your own highest standards. It’s a little bit like walking a tightrope, dealing with some strong empowerment and expression needs and still not violating the ideals of your ‘Best Self.’ This is an opportunity to make an effective and potent statement about who you are, and who you’re willing to be, giving all the chance to touch base with some of our most important moral, ethical, and material standards.

29 Jan 2010: The Leo Full Moon–Serious Play

Tags

,

‘Assertive Play’ might be the way to describe the energy of this Leo Full Moon (10:17 PM PST at 10 Leo 14), with a conjunction to Mars and a sesquiquadrate to Uranus being the only aspects making close (less than two degrees) contact to the Earth/Moon combination. The energy of ego, action, assertion, and anger touches the Moon/ Earth and fires the culmination energy of a Full Moon with the urge to ‘get it all out,’ expressed through the ‘I am’ of Mars and Leo. The sesquiquadrate to Uranus suggests the individuality and rebellious urges must adjust to the ego and identity needs; the group needs must adjust as well, as the individual makes it clear to the group just what she or he will or won’t do. It’s a show-down of sorts, whether that involves a response to group demands or pressures, or a need to express one’s Will in no uncertain terms, even if this only involves an internal resolution–no one comes out from under the energy of the Full Moon without making a statement.

The Sabian for the Full Moon supplies some interesting imagery that clues us in to the possibility that this Self- expression doesn’t have to be grim or angry, that in fact it may only succeed if we take a lighter approach. ‘Children Play on a Swing Hanging From the Branches of a Huge Oak Tree’ The children, of course, are the human element in this, representing ourselves, but the symbol on which they play is the oak, a type of tree that has across cultures represented the concept of strength–the Latin robur means both ‘oak’ and ‘strength,’ showing how closely aligned the concepts sometimes are, and Pliny the Elder equated the Greek word for oak, drus, with the word Druid, the result of which was that Druids were deemed ‘Oak-Men,’ in spite of the fact that this isn’t necessarily the way the Druids described themselves. This may imply that each of us will be able to express due to the strong framework we’ve built that contains our world and offers stability–and that those who haven’t created such a life structure may hesitate to express, play, and make the Self-statement they are inclined to, thus short-circuiting what they could gain from the Full Moon energy.

28 Jan 2010: Anticipation

Tags

The Cancer Moon fills in a Grand Cross in the wee hours of the 28th AM PST with Juno, Mercury, and Zeus; our feelings show us revelations concerning power and communication, specifically in terms of where power lies across our landscape, and feeling reactions give us a glimpse behind communications to their ‘real’ (i.e. emotional) meanings for us. By the 6 AM hour PST the Moon has moved on to quincunx Ceres, prompting, perhaps, a short period where we become acutely aware of the ways in which we’re in harmony with nature, and the ways we’re not, too; this may guarantee a surreal moment where we feel our animal-ness, or where we fail to–either way, we have a new perspective. For some the effects of this will linger through the day, bringing our minds over and over back to that glimpse of nature, and our place in it (or perhaps, the place we’d like to hold).

The Crab, courtesy http://www.karenswhimsy.com

By the 8 AM hour the Moon trines Pallas and squares Juno exact (this is perfection of this aspect, which was involved in the Grand Cross). West Coasters will start off the day with a solid belief in their own wisdom and good sense, and a chip on their shoulder, definitely related to unresolved conflict that was presented by the Grand Cross; for all other time zones, this feeling of competence and smarts pops up in a way that feels ‘out of the blue,’ and then immediately turns the attention toward the way in which the power struggle can be worked out–feeling one can outsmart one’s adversary can give a huge boost to energy and creativity, whether the estimation of the power situation or the possible resolution makes sense in reality or not!

The 2 PM hour brings the Moon’s conjunction to the South Node and opposition to the North, bringing us face-to-face with the past in some form. The starkness of the incident or memory is juxtaposed with our current life direction–and if we needed to be reminded that the past is not only truly gone, but is something that doesn’t belong in the ‘now,’ this is it.

By 9 PM PST the Moon has moved on to trine Uranus and quincunx Chiron and Neptune. This is a recipe for, if not excitement, then at least variety and a need to adapt. Emotional reactions do best if they stay flexible and open to accomodate the unexpected–no matter how this manifests, it’s unlikely to be a run-of-the-mill evening! Void begins 11:06 PM PST, as we anticipate the arrival of the Full Moon.

Bonus: Tomorrow Jupiter is in range of quincunx to Saturn. Watch for the way in which the urges to expand and contain war it out, internally and externally. This will set up a pervasive energy that plays right into any inclination we have to be indecisive. Libras, keep a light touch on the scales! Everyone else, try to avoid whiplash as the energies bounce us back and forth. There’s no resolving them, only trying to go with the ever-shifting flow.

We’ve almost run out of January! I’ll still be doing the daily diary, but for a comprehensive overview with aspect details that lets you plan ahead, you need your forecasts for February, March, and April, found in the Winter issue of Eclipse, along with my research on Zeus and intercepted House meanings, http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/eclipse-in-depth-astrology-for-the-21st-century/

27 Jan 2010: Mercurial Feelings

Tags

,

The Moon’s Void began at 10:33 PM on the 26th PST, and doesn’t end until its entry into Cancer at 6:01 AM PST on the 27th. This gives us a large span of time when we are, in a sense, free: to sleep without dreams, to move through our day unburdened, to be without the weight of emotion. The Void allows this as, without contact, the Moon has nothing to reflect back to us, and so loses its psychic light. It can be a time of rest and renewal, especially on a mental plane, as we are allowed to just exist, with little of the emotional texture that typically can agitate, torment, trouble, sadden, or bring longing or joy forward. Without the imposition of emotion, our minds can reach a state of balance and pure reason–a nice way to meet the day, if we can just allow it to happen. (This may be especially tough for those heavy with natal Moon energy, especially Moon or Sun in Cancer.)

Our Moon--Pic by NASA

The Moon soon trines Jupiter in Pisces, sextiles Vesta, and creates a T-square with Pluto and Saturn, basically presenting us with a dilemma involving the need for change and the status quo, and presenting us with options to handle it involving applying our values to group-thought or belief, use of an educational or religious practice or technique, or asking us to bring personal standards to a public forum. In any event, the problem we’re faced with seems more grim than it is, and we just need to assert our own highest values in finding an answer.

7:30 PM-ish PST the Moon quincunxes the Sun, bringing forward a point of evaluation, a mini-reckoning. This may ask us to review the day critically, and perhaps adjust our emotional reactions to the day’s events.

The real focus of today, though, is Mercury. He is essentially by his lonesome, in terms of major planetary contact. He may garner a lot of our attention, a lot of feeling, without our awareness, as the Cancer Moon may look for a place to light, and with Mercury ‘unattended’ by major energies the feeling Moon and the need to communicate may relate, in that way that we may associate two things because they are there, putting them together in our perceptions for no real reason. Merc has only a couple of other aspects: a sextile to Pallas and a T-square with Juno and Zeus (this will be filled in as a Grand Cross briefly by the transiting Moon, but not until 4 AM PST on the 28th, and this should bring a genuine sense of feeling related to communication to the fore.) The sextile to Pallas says with a little effort we can connect to wisdom–that’s good news!–but that power struggles may gum up communication and other Mercurial exchanges. It becomes a situation where we know what to do, or what we want to say or communicate, but there’s so much posturing, jockeying for position, or so many attempts to grab empowerment or reach ambitious goals that the message will not be delivered. The task is really to take advantage of the ability to know clearly our own position on things, and then to wait for a more advantageous time to present it; and of course, it helps if we aren’t victims of those urges to power ourselves.

26 Jan 2010: Surprise!

Tags

, ,

Biggest point of conflict today might be the Gemini Moon’s square to Uranus, happening in the 6 PM hour Pacific time. This seems to say ‘Shocking News’ to me, but could be something more subtle, a shift of the psychic ground that leaves us at the least surprised, at the most scrambling to re-assemble our world. If transiting Uranus is currently aspecting anything in the natal chart, look to the natal energy for clues to the area of potential shock, and also note matters of Uranus’ natal House, House of transiting Moon, and House with Aquarius on the cusp; some or all might blend to indicate possibilities.

Otherwise it seems we see more of the same, though Juno opposed and Ceres sextile Zeus does suggest that some will be caught up in a power struggle that remains largely unseen and not addressed. The sextile makes us think we can live with this tense yet pseudo-civil condition indefinitely, but we might be better off to plan an end to it. Vesta’s trine to Pluto says this is the time to transform those things that are important to us, and certainly enjoying a truly peaceful existence would be one of them–right now we should at least think about how to approach resolving the tension in our under-the-table tug-of-war.

25 Jan 2010: The Saturn Spectrum

Tags

It’s an interesting day, with the oddest mix of excellent indicators and major blind spots, and the question becomes, What will we respond to?

7 AM-1 PM there’s a Grand Trine in Air formed by the Moon, Sun, and Saturn. This brings great stability to the mental faculties while enlightening us on the very best way to deal with our reality. Saturn does, in fact, enjoy very positive aspects, including a trine to the Moon and Sun, as mentioned, a corresponding sextile to the Earth, and a trine to Venus, all very very good. However, Saturn isn’t all sunshine and rainbows; the Old Man happens to be involved in a Fist of God with Pluto and apex Sedna, and this suggests our biggest difficulties center on our ability to perceive which facets of reality, which structures, rules, and institutions actually should be changed or destroyed. There’s nothing we can do about this, except take advantage of the Grand Trine as it ‘lights the way,’ because it’s the only thing that will allow us adequate perspective, if only briefly and temporarily.

An unusual view of Saturn; thanks, NASA

Other highlights: Venus opposed Mars and Mercury quincunx Mars=the Will and possibly the ego take a beating; the action urge is subjected to values, relationship, and talent hang-ups, and communication rubs everyone the wrong way. Keep in mind that Mercury is racing toward a T-square with Zeus and Juno–what we say and think, or the Trickster himself, will soon play havoc in the balance of power within relationship–so over the next week or so a mild approach to communication and communion is advisable.
