Well, almost–there’ll soon be a post for the 29th–but until then, step lightly, as the 28th may see us dragged back to the past–and whether that’s a nostalgia trip or falling back into old behavior or thought patterns, it may keep us from investing in the current path/ life direction–and like the hokey-pokey, that’s what it’s all about! Biggest offenders: Venus qnx Chiron and sq the Nodal axis, Mars nov SN.

Finding Your Cinderella Point

Tags

By Jennie Harbour {{PD}}

A little Saturday night reading, from a 2013 ECLIPSE, though it seems just as timely today. I’ll return in a few days with an example of the Cinderella Point; the original article used someone not widely seen, anymore, so didn’t seem relevant for now.

Considering all that’s going on in the world, you may wonder why I came up with this topic, as if we’re all sitting around, idly wondering about our spiritual ‘G’ spot! It’s precisely at times crowded with outrageous and inexplicable events and confusing outcomes that we can really use a little something that will cut through the clutter and be both rewarding and purposeful–and something I will, for now, call your Cinderella point, is just that kind of answer to an unasked question.

The Cinderella fable, more or less as we know it today, serves as a template for this exploration, in large part because this story connects the dots between experiential energies in the natal chart–and this is so for men or women–and shows us a point or set of energy interactions that may catapult us to the next level. It also has the benefit of re-focusing our attention at a personal level–my sense is that many of us have been so distracted by events outside ourselves that we’ve lost an appropriate personal focus, one that keeps us aware of ourselves within the context of the world, rather than leaving us feeling we’re at the mercy of it, or making us so defensively Self-focused that we fuss and demand and end up unsatisfied, grabbing the wrong things in an attempt to assuage the bombardment of hurt we seem perpetually to be under.

The story goes like so: the central character, Cinderella (the Soul) lives in squalor in the confines of a splendid house (our earthly circumstances, and the surrounding nature/ the world), having ‘lost’ her father/ protector (awareness of our connection to the Divine, and our difficulty accepting that the connection is vital and alive, no matter how separated we seem to be-this can also be our connection to ourselves as part of Nature, or as part of the Cosmos) and under the auspices of a stepmother (mundane matters). The stepsisters are all those things we serve, those things that keep us running but that don’t replenish us; they represent the demands of our existence, the ones we believe are essential, but that really aren’t. The fairy godmother can be the Universe/ God, or something more prosaic, like ‘luck’ (but then we don’t really believe in luck, do we? We can call it synchronicity or timing or Providence, if we like that better), or the helping hand of another, especially of someone who is in a position to provide something you can’t. The ball is opportunity, showing ourselves and our talents to our best advantage, on whatever stage life affords us. The Prince is the opportunity that is just right for us; he does not represent an actual human or circumstance that will ‘rescue’ us from our current life, but is instead a chance for us to elevate ourselves and our expression, a chance to take the place only the Soul can adequately conceptualize (it’s the old idea that the Universe can have much more or much better in store for us than we are capable of imagining ourselves!)

So why does Cinderella run from the ball? She doesn’t want the Prince to know who she really is; she doesn’t believe she is ‘enough’, just as she exists. She doesn’t really have a clear Self-identity. She’s not a person in her own right, but always seen in a role in connection to others: servant, step-relation, critical target. She is aware that her fancy facade lasts for a limited time. Her appearance will lose its enhanced trappings and return to its modest origins on the stroke of midnight. She puts too much value on appearances, and shows a lack of faith in the Universe by believing that she will be rejected for the ‘new role’ if she is seen for who she is–she is projecting her own beliefs, making the assumption that the world shares her standard of judgment. This perfectly describes our own typical response to opportunity that will bring us to the next level, that will allow us to shine:  we present ourselves in what we think is our best guise, secretly believing we are not up to the challenge, in fact believing that we will be rejected if we don’t pretend to be other than we are.

You’ll recall, though, that unlike the rest of her clothing, Cinderella’s glass slippers don’t change back; she loses one on the steps as she flees, and it doesn’t turn back into her sensible loafer, but retains its magical substance. This suggests two things:  that even the experience of presenting ourselves under an idealized guise changes us, and in particular changes the foundation on which we stand (behaving as if what we want is already true); and, the way the glass slippers remain says that this is the right role–otherwise, the shoe wouldn’t fit. So, the glass slippers act as a direct message both to the Prince, who finds the shoe, recognizes it as Cinderella’s, and knows to seek the person for whom this is exactly right, and to Cinderella, that the elevated experience is indeed both real and attainable, perfect for her, that in fact this experience is actually seeking her out–she’s attracting what she’s meant to do.

So what in the chart can lead us to that Cinderella moment of realization, a knowing about the direction our life must take and the role we must play? What combination leads us to our own elevation, and so inevitably to the purpose of our Soul’s incarnation in the first place? We start with the Sun, of course, as the Soul Purpose and also principle identity indicator–however, not everyone sees themselves chiefly in the Sun–a male may identify more with Mars and a female with Venus, particularly if that male is an Aries Sun, or that female is a Taurus or Libra Sun, or Sun conjunct Mars or Venus, respectively, in any sign–but there are also those who center their identity in the Moon (those who see themselves in the main as sensitives, before anything else, or those who see themselves mainly in nurturing or mothering roles), and there are those who identify with their Ascendant–these are typically very outgoing individuals who are all about how they meet the world–it’s a little bit like a constant collision for them, so they may focus their viewpoint strongest through the sign on the Ascendant degree. A very few may take to Jupiter (teacher) or Chiron (healer), but neither of these should be worn full-time as a main identity (when looking from the inside out, back at yourself), so if that’s where you are drawn I would ask that you consider there is probably another of the already-mentioned bodies that is actually more suitable–of course, there will be exceptions to this, too.

Though it may seem like we’re all over the map with identity matters, we can’t underestimate the importance of allowing individuals to Self-identify when it comes to what energies they resonate with, despite my above warning. It would be naive to believe that everyone identifies most strongly with their Sun; instead, we allow for the idea that individuals may ‘live through’ various portions of the chart at different stages of life–or that for some, another energy will just beckon more strongly,such as in the instance of response to the Sun’s ruler, rather than the Sun itself. This process in general of finding the Cinderella point is quite loose; don’t expect a cut-and-dried formula–that would deny the great variety within human nature, and make things pretty boring, to boot!

Once we determine where our identity lies in the chart, we will want to locate the other ideas, players, or concepts, and see how they relate to our principal identity indicator. The earthly circumstances are centered in the Earth itself, always directly opposite the Sun, and secondarily in Saturn, which generally stands for all mundane matters, as well as things that control us (the stepmother), including our fears. The God/ Universe concept and our separation may be outlined by Vesta, or may, especially for those who identify with bodies other than the Sun, be found in the Sun, suggesting that for these individuals, the Cinderella moment involves moving back toward the Soul Purpose, as defined by our Solar placement.

The ball may be represented by Jupiter, as the expanded personal stage found on the social scene, or Uranus, if we are drawn to a role within a group, or conversely, if we find a big part of our identity in isolation or rebellion. The Prince is opportunity tailor-made for us–and likely is indicated by transit, Secondary Progression, or Solar Arc of featured energies in the chart, i.e. those that are prominent and obviously rule important life matters. The character of these may also be suggested by the 8th House, both the state of the ruler of the sign on the cusp and anything posited therein, because the 8th shows us the support we can expect from others, and by the 10th, which can suggest those authorities who may be significant to our career or status, and the glass slipper–oh yes, even this can be found in the chart!–is likely related to matters of the House with Pisces on the cusp (the sign of feet!) or is described by Mercury (he of winged feet). Those things blocking our direct understanding of our Divine connection, and so our Divine mission, may be signified by Chiron, Saturn, or possibly Neptune, if he is in a position that suggests he’s more about obscuring the view than inspiring the individual, or could be suggested by any hard aspects of bodies to the Sun or to the chosen identity indicator.

You may feel hopelessly lost at this point, drowning in details. We’ll walk through an examples here.  You’ll see that we must be flexible, and also a bit unconventional, in forming ideas about what might offer us true opportunity to what we’re meant to do, and so re-connect us with the Divine. We musn’t be afraid to edit concepts to fit reality, and to turn on a dime, should we find a theory unworkable–otherwise, how useful would astrology be? We must remember that the Cinderella point will for some be found in a role, for some in action, for some in acceptance of who they really are by others, and for still others it could entail taking a completely unexpected turn, but for every single person, it starts with Self-acceptance–remembering our Divine connection means we will be willing to appear at the ball as we are–only then will efforts be meaningful, and fulfillment a real possibility.

22 November 2018 Full Moon in Gemini: This Beginning

‘The Nickel Belt’ By Franklin Carmichael 1928 {{PD}}

The Full Moon falls at 00 Gemini 52 at 9:39 PM PST on the 22nd. Though under other circumstances we might consider it conjoined Sedna, it’s past contact, and may better represent where we’re coming from: the subliminally loaded atmosphere that preceded the Full Moon ‘wake up’ in a retro Mercury ruled Gemini. The FM is opposed Jupiter and in wide square to Mars (in effect forming a T-square), in wide sextile to Chiron and wide trine to the South Node. (When I specify ‘wide’ for an aspect, I’m speaking relatively, considering the event requires fairly close contact, and the strength of the aspect itself affects just how much of a range to consider.)

A Full Moon delivers something to us, completed, perfected, an ending, conclusion, or denouement that, in this case, sparks the germ of some brand new idea. So very early in Gemini, the FM says, ‘From that ending comes this beginning.’ What flickers may be dim, held somewhere in the back of consciousness, or may seem to face insurmountable facts or beliefs (Jupiter opp) or may contradict (the square) our own Will, choices, or actions (Mars), but will be both healing (Chiron) and bring forward useful facets of the past (SN)–and that should reassure us that what begins here, much as the ego may fight it, is really a good thing. Whatever it calls us to do, change, or be, whatever the suggestion put forward by the Lunar light, it will be a big deal, if not now, then when it finally grows from germ to bud, which may be the point when you see why this idea, thought, or communication (Gemini) matters so much.

The Sabian for the Full Moon in Gemini is, ‘A Glass-Bottomed Boat Reveals Undersea Wonders’. What’s conveyed (the symbol of the boat as conveyance) is clear to us, if we’ll only look down (the SN past). Viewed through the lens of emotions (the water) we begin to understand something that was hidden to us (undersea), before now. It’s this understand that sparks the new idea in the mind, the one that finds its origins at this point in the Lunar cycle.

We also look at the source of the light for a Full Moon; the Sabian for the Sun is, ‘Retired Army Veterans Gather To Reawaken Old Memories’. This image emphasizes the importance of the past, reawakened to inform the Now, and possibly points to the way we may need, in this particular instance, to ‘retire’ the Warrior spirit of Mars, if only so that we can have an inner quiet that allows the new idea to grow. We must look at what from the past has survived the conflict (the war that made them veterans), and what it can tell us about healing in the present, or even about how best to interact with social influences (Jupiter), especially those we have resisted (FM opposition/ conj Sun).

Look carefully at these children. Jacek Malczewski 1896 {{PD}}

If you celebrate Thanksgiving at this time, I wish you a wonderful holiday–and for everyone else, a wonderful week! I’ll be taking a bit of time off from the Daily posts, but will return before you know it 🙂

21 November 2018 Harmonious Chord

‘La Répétition de Chant’ By Edgar Degas c1873 {{PD}}

We must face what we’ve been hiding from ourselves, what we’ve been in denial about, what enrages us, the injustices right in front of us that we’ve let go by, until now. In the run up to the Full Moon in Gemini we feel it pressing, still subliminal but urgent. It’s a matter of finding a harmonious chord with the group, of finding our ‘tribe’ and letting them know we as individuals belong. There’s something supremely healthy in making this declaration; it offers the freedom we’ve been looking for, and we may make adjustments to our Self-expression or our group involvement because of it.

Today’s word image is a fish. I’m thinking this may take any number of forms, different for each of us. Just take note of when or where fish come up in your day (saying this in my head as I type makes me want to laugh–“where fish come up in your day”–right?–as if we routinely bump into them on the street!) Logos, visual representations, aquariums, and fish sandwiches all count, and may clue you in to an important moment or something you should notice at that time. Good hunting (or should I say trolling? No, not on the interwebs!)

‘A Storm on a Mediterranean Coast’ By Claude-Joseph Vernet 1767 {{PD}}

When both fantasy and the real world seem harsh and inhospitable, where ya gonna go? You’ll find out today; here are a few suggestions: consciously act to support or further the well-being of one or more individuals, organizations, or matters you honor and find sacred–use your current position, status, or ‘reach’ to affect a positive outcome; put your attention on the future, and let what you want to have happen guide what you do now; or, review the past and either an instance of healing or of using/ acquiring skills that make your life more meaningful today (no action required except memory for this last). It’s a time to take refuge, in some sense; no need to feel guilty or to force yourself out into the fray–there’s plenty of time for (but again, no real need for) that, in days to come.

‘The Tantrum’ By Francisco de Goya y Lucientes CCO

Today’s word image is tradition disrupted. Expect something you count on as tradition, done every time there’s a particular event or gathering, to be un-doable this year. It’s a gauge, a kind of test, as to your ability to still go forward joyfully, to adapt, be flexible, and embrace something new. Be inventive in your response, and don’t allow bitterness or the shrill voice of, ‘But that’s how it always is!’ and the expectation that it still should be to ruin what otherwise can be the best event or gathering of its kind yet.

‘Flower Clouds’ By Odilon Redon 1903 {{PD}}

All attention is on today’s perfection of Mars in Pisces square Jupiter in Sagittarius (unless you’re wrestling with the Aries Moon’s trine to retro Mercury in Sag, in which case, ‘Why did I do it?’ ‘Why didn’t I know that?’ or ‘Why did I say it?’ are on a continuous loop in your conscious mind). Mars doesn’t take to warm and fuzzy (or wet and disorienting) easily, so whatever aggressive dreams, actions in support of ideals, or creative warrior stance you’ve taken since his entry into Pisces gets pumped up with contact to exaggerator-in-chief Jupiter. You may feel all you want is a square deal, a fair shake at implementing the Neptunian Nirvana you want to put in place, but you’re doing it all by your lonesome (Mars) and the social order or some all-knowing authority (Jupiter) wants to teach you a thing or two about sharing, outreach, and the larger picture.

Today’s word image is a glass of spilled milk. Well that’s obvious, right? Something is gone, lost, wasted, and can’t be recovered–so to continue to dwell on, mourn, or feel guilty about its loss is pointless. Honor what happened in proportion to what’s gone, and then vow to take more care, next time.

‘Jar, Bottle and Glass’ By Juan Gris 1911 {{PD}}

We have a way with the material world today, a kind of genius for manipulating tangibles, a capacity to build, form, shape, accumulate, and set boundaries–so what gets in our way? Power struggles, especially those centered in relationship dynamics, financial dependencies, and in questions of autonomy vs. authority. Issues arise because we either refuse to listen to our own inner voice, our own instincts, or because we are pushing through some of our own blind spot material, and problems are merely others reflecting back to us what we’re not seeing. A good day, if we are as open to feelings, our own and others’, as we are to interaction with the physical world.

‘Night in Saint-Cloud’ By Edvard Munch 1890 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a rapidly darkening day. In the Northern Hemisphere we’re all getting a taste of this now, as winter approaches and the days shorten, but my focus is on the sense of darkness coming prematurely, night arriving much sooner in our ‘day’ than we expect. Is there some area in your life where you feel ‘darkness’, or perhaps an ending, closing in? Is there a feeling of panic, upset, or disappointment over having less time to address this than you thought you would (or that you want)? And is this feeling diverting attention from those things you could do to affect what’s coming–are you so busy lamenting and wishing for ‘more’ that you aren’t really seeing and enjoying what you have?

‘Early spring’ 1885 By Ivan Endogurov / Иван Ендогуров {{PD}}

It’s a day to stay in our lanes, and yet to make those lanes as wide as possible, to claim all our territory, to embrace our roles and the authority those carry. It’s not a day for ego or to shout ‘Look at me!’; instead, we do best to keep thinking and plans closely aligned with highest values and priorities, and to accept that the kind of power we should pursue is consistently smart and practical–and nothing else.  Disruptors include the unexpected or unreliable in relationships and income streams, and a potential lack of grace displayed when confronted with new or revolutionary ideas.

Today’s word image is an electronic device (phone, computer, Alexa, Siri, television) engaged in unauthorized listening within your home. Does that concept freak you out, creep you out, or do you think it might be a good thing, helpful in a case of break-in or injury where you could shout for help? Today we might pay attention to how much privacy we actually have, and how we feel about that.

‘Men in an Outrigger Canoe Headed for Shore’ By Arman Manookian 1929 {{PD}}

Will it be a riptide, pulling you out of your depth, pulling you under, or a gentle current carrying you to shore and depositing you carefully on the beach like a coconut floating in a tropical surf? Venus’ direction restores our aesthetic, relationship, and value norms (the standards we hold, not the actual state of matters to pre-retro dimensions), and we may look immediately to ‘the Other’ for feedback or reassurance (Libra), even as Merc’s retrograde in Sagittarius withdraws sharpness and focus from the mind–and at this point we were likely centering reasoning on either ‘the facts’ or our personal beliefs–so that the need to feel that comes forward during any Merc retro shows us the way out of our suddenly fuzzy thinking. The mind expands, and probably begins to traffic in images, sensations, big concepts, and ideas we might label ‘foreign’, as these are what’s accessible at this point of the cycle. Be prepared to spend the next three weeks in feeling mode–and as always, delay signing, agreeing, or formulating rules or conditions until Mercury’s turnaround, 6 December.

Today’s word image is a person holding a key, with no idea what it opens. We have the answer–the only way to use it, though, is to figure out which question it’s the answer to.

14-15 November 2018 No Straight Line

‘Composition V’ By Wassily Kandinsky 1911 {{PD}}

Though the 14th may seem like a quiet day, big change can occur almost without our realizing it. We act with the future in mind, with goals and our highest priorities and values as guidelines–but what we’ve been ignoring or denying, or matters that have enraged us or forced us into a proactive stance, come forward and, in some amazingly clever and inspired ways, alter the terrain. Even if we don’t see the shift, it happens–and factors we couldn’t have anticipated (indeed, we make our choices only from what we start the day knowing) will spring up, appear, or (in a sense) reach out to us, and transform what lies before us. But, because we’ve used our values and commitments as a guide, we end up with things better aligned with our goals and priorities than they were when we started. That’s progress, as long as you don’t demand it unfold in an absolutely straight line.

Be ready for Mars to sextile Uranus tomorrow, the 15th, then move into Pisces–choices and actions, our own and others’, are unexpected, shocking, surprising, radical, or flow from Higher Mind–and leave us either confused or inspired. Keep in mind that the ‘Big Reveal’ of Venus going direct occurs the 16th, as does Merc’s retrograde in Sagittarius–that means what happens on the 15th may be a ‘pre-reaction’, as we feel the approaching shifts but are not yet conscious of them–more on both those changes later.

(Sun sxt Vesta and parallel Black Moon Lilith, Mars qnx NN and nov Pluto)

By Angelo Dall’Oca Bianca 1876 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a death that’s not a death but a kidnapping, instead. That’s a vague way of saying something we think is dead isn’t dead at all, it’s just been moved to another ‘location’–and that means we’re operating in a bit of Neptune’s territory (or is it Pluto’s?), as we’re actively being deceived about the viability of something important. What dream have you given up on (deceiving yourself), or have you been convinced by others or circumstances is dead, that might fit this image? Consider that it may, yet, be resurrected, and watch what occurs at the double turnaround of Venus and Mercury on the 16th–but don’t make up your mind just yet, wait for Merc’s direction on 6 December–that’s the earliest point at which all pieces of the puzzle become clear.
