15 August it seems full speed ahead for expressing our power and taking meaningful action, especially toward uncovering the truth, and yet, our minds are a little distanced, critical, focused on details, discerning and materially-oriented, and so easily distracted from the action. The mental attitude is meant to empower, and skews choice toward ambition fulfillment—but in the end what makes a mark is passionate commitment, a willingness to do, especially to build, that colors boldly, but still stays within the lines. (Perfecting today: Mars sextile Pluto, Mercury into Virgo, parallel Juno, and semi-square Zeus)

From the book Shin Bijin (True Beauties) by Chikanobu Hashimoto 1897 {{PD}}

12 August the reality picture seems to grab hold of our methods and means of empowerment and mischievously twist them; relationships suddenly become all about money or what the other person thinks is smart, but we can’t help but feel something loving is being destroyed if we acquiesce or concentrate on assets. Words speak to some part of us we can’t pinpoint (and we speak from this subliminal stratum, as well) and nothing seems stable or secure; we feel we can point to irrefutable proof of that. That latter is a bit delusional; we must realize that we are seeing reality under too harsh a light—it seems so oppressive, and when we do that, we tend to exaggerate the negatives, and despair. Put on some rose-colored glasses, and wait for upsets to pass—and don’t take anything that comes across as hardline too seriously, at least for now. (Perfecting today: Saturn sesquiquadrate Juno, Venus into Leo, sextile Pallas, and contra-parallel Pluto, Mercury square Sedna, Mercury and the Sun contra-parallel Saturn)

‘On the Activities of the People at Moonlight’ Olaus Magnus 1555 {{PD}}

The Full Moon occurs on the 10th at 11:09 AM Pacific time at 18 Aquarius 02; she sextiles Uranus, opposes Mercury and Black Moon Lilith, and squares Saturn. It feels, in some fundamental way, that we may process the energy of the Full Moon as nothing so much as a distraction; maybe it’s its big, bright Super-ness that will dominate the sky and so disorient our sensibilities. In any case, what we may have is a ‘bang!’ over in one corner, pressure from reality in another, and showy confrontations with what we don’t want to deal with, what we’re hearing or learning, what’s being communicated, and all of it turning us away from the Aquarian higher knowledge and understanding we’re being offered.

How will it come to us, then? The Moon disorients, deludes, cloaks us in illusion; we must look to the Sun, and his companions Mercury and Black Moon Lilith. These offer solutions (the culmination of the Full Moon) that the Moon is too affected, too in love with her own glow, to deliver. To receive that higher illumination, that answer to a vital question, we must face those matters we find ourselves avoiding right now, and funnel that illumined energy through matters of one or both of the Houses in the natal chart ruled by Mercury. That’s a formula that won’t be the easiest to decipher, but it will show us areas of the chart (those Merc ruled Houses) and life matters that are overdue to be faced, dealt with, and from which we can glean something exceptionally important.

Black Moon Lilith sextiles Zeus and both inconjunct Chiron in a Finger of God; there’s also a Grand Water Trine that hooks into the Finger through Chiron (the other points are Venus and Saturn), making for an interesting possible effect: by standing up for ourselves and facing what we might otherwise avoid, and at the same time pursuing goals, we may end up healing some long-held wounds–and this, in turn, creates a Love-filled, rewarding, or prosperous reality. That sounds good.

Today’s image is a clock, the glass-covered face of which is unreadable in the glaring sun. What happens to our consciousness, and our perceptions, when we throw away the clock? If you can, go for a day without reference to time; you’ll almost certainly tune in more closely to your body, to the environment, and to your own needs. This image could alternatively suggest for some that though one may need to know ‘what time it is’, there is an inability to determine just how ‘late’ it actually is–the only option may be to do the best one can, without reference to timetables, schedules, or deadlines.

2 PM PDT the Leo Moon sextiles Ceres. We get along well with those in authority, or are in touch with our own power and able to show it. Negotiations guided by intuition go well, too. 6 PM PDT the Moon sextiles Vesta; both are at 29 degrees. In spite of things in the home, with causes to which we’re dedicated, or interaction with the mate, running smoothly, we’re still tense and possibly snappish. This period may test our commitment to values and to our usual peace-loving attitude. Void begins at 7:14 PM Pacific time; the Moon enters Virgo at 8:37 PM PDT. 10:30 PM PDT the Moon sextiles Mars. It’s easy at this point to become aggressive and critical–but we can choose instead to put our attention on taking detail-oriented action.

Today’s image is a man who returns to a house where he lived many years ago, and finds the current occupants do not welcome him in. It’s important we recognize that no matter our memories, our surroundings change, and psychically and otherwise, we may no longer ‘fit’ in old places or old scenarios. Heraclitus reminds us, we can’t step into the same river twice: it is not the same river, and we are not the same person.

Weak sauce or not, we’ll all get a taste. Jean Béraud’s ‘The Drinkers’ 1908 {{PD}}

New Moon in Leo occurs 26 July at 3 Leo 51 at 3:41 PM Pacific time. The Leo New Moon roars at us mid-afternoon Pacific time, and so in most of the Western hemisphere may go unnoticed in the daytime sky. This New Moon is conjunct Jupiter, and we can count a loose sesquiquadrate to Chiron—and with lenient orbs a square to Mars, brand new in Scorpio.

This suggests that what develops at the NM seems much more formidable, with tougher requirements for action and choice, and much more serious stakes, than it really is; it appears that this conflict or challenge will in actuality be ‘weak sauce’, as the phrase goes—with effects likely concentrated in the natal Houses holding the NM and t Mars. We may work ourselves up, or the social circle may make noises that suggest this is a bigger event than it is—but what happens, or what choices we must make or actions take, will be much less effective and/ or meaningful to our Path than we might think in the moment. Mars new in Scorpio could be more concerned with being taken seriously (even being considered ‘dangerous’ in some sense) than in getting into action, and a square to Sun-Jupiter only adds incentive to broadcast the Self and ‘shine’—no one reacts well to that kind of pressure, especially after the somewhat debilitating experience of the Saturn-Uranus direction changes.

23 July thinking is in conflict with ambitions and desires, so don’t look to the mental realm to strategize; leave goal-setting for a later date, and focus instead on what it is about what you want that is causing internal mental conflict in the first place (hint: either your thinking has failed to acknowledge the appetites, or what you want in some way offends your usual mindset). (Perfecting today: Mercury square Zeus)

Carducius Plantagenet Ream 'Dessert No. 4' c1865 {{PD}}

Carducius Plantagenet Ream ‘Dessert No. 4’ c1865 {{PD}}

Your weekend sampler, featuring a too-long cake metaphor, a slice (again!) from the article on sibling relationships, and a little glimpse ahead, but just a crumb–have a great weekend!

Today’s image (for the 18th) is a pink cake box, like the kind you get from the bakery, containing a crushed cake and discarded on the freeway on-ramp. This is a sad image; who is so angry or unhappy or spiteful that they moosh a perfectly lovely cake and throw it out the window of a speeding car? Someone who doesn’t like the good things in life, that’s who, someone who is not willing to accept pleasure–and they don’t want anyone else to have any enjoyment, either. Is there someone like this in your life? If so, consider that they may ruin everyone’s cake out of deep sorrow, perhaps out of a belief that they don’t deserve life’s cake. If you find it in yourself, you may want to offer them a slice, and let them know that they really do deserve it–all we have to do is be alive to deserve it!–and we can all have our cake, after all.

Anything posited in the 11th adds layers to the interaction, and typically focuses major attention in 11th House matters. The Moon here, for example, may suggest we see our own mother, those who seem maternal to us, or those with whom we empathize as friend material; an emotional connection may be essential to viewing an individual as a friend, with this placement, and could dominate interaction. So how do our sibling interactions influence our later interactions with friends? Even if there are no other connections, Whole Sign Houses give us the same element in both 3rd and 11th House—and further, we get the same element on the 7th of Others, with all three Houses offering both personal and group or ‘other’ related viewpoints for the chart individual. This implies that the way we relate to friends and groups is very much like, even modeled on, sibling relationships and early childhood experiences (which also fall in the 3rd). With the elements connecting the Houses, we can’t help but translate our experiences in the matters of the earliest part of life (the 3rd) into later events and experiences as our horizons and contacts widen.

19 July are our relationships or finances not fitting smoothly into our reality, or must our reality modify itself to accurately reflect the Truth of our relationships or financial situation? That’s the question we’ll wrestle with all day. (Perfecting today: Venus sesquiquadrate Saturn)

20 July sees us discover the down side to our expansion attempts, our social role, or to knowing what we know; somehow we are seen as responsible for darker elements that are in reality way outside our control. This brings a form of public judgment, an episode where the social circle makes a pronouncement about us—and there’s nothing we can do about it. Just know that what’s communicated is more revealing about the thinking of those making the assessments than it is about you or your choices. Too, our own thinking is influenced by things we’re not aware of—and pushes us in directions we might not anticipate, to undetermined effect—and that could be the same influence that’s causing others to make those judgments of you. (Jupiter contra-parallel Pluto, Mercury semi-square Sedna)

3 AM PDT of the 16th the Pisces Moon opposes Pallas. We may be inspired or just deluded, but either way we may be tempted to ignore the smart thing to do. Don’t. 10 AM PDT the Moon forms the base of a Finger of God with Sedna, catching the South Node at the midpoint, apex the North Node and Ceres; the Moon also trines the Sun. We sense what we can’t really see, something linking us to the past, and this informs both the future and our sense of personal authority and power. Our vision is clear at this point, so that anything we conclude, even when it’s gleaned from unconscious sources, will be accurate and informative. 12:30 PM PDT the Moon creates another Finger with Sedna, this time with an apex of Mars and Vesta. What we’ve sensed now prompts action or choice; the good news is what we act on or choose is directly in line with our truest values. 5:30 PM PDT the Moon squares Venus. Our sense of the creative or a need for escape is in conflict with relationship or financial needs. Don’t blow something important just for a few hours off, but do note the need you feel at this time: it’s indicative of some itch that can cause trouble if it’s not eventually scratched. Void begins at 5:59 PM PDT; the Moon enters Aries at 9:07 PM PDT and immediately trine Jupiter fresh in Leo. We may have an excited and expansive feeling about the social scene or from knowledge just gained; this is a great way to kick off the Moon in Aries, as this confidence and excitement primes us for Aries flavored action.

Blason de Mozac sur la châsse de saint Austremoine 16th century {{PD}}

Blason de Mozac sur la châsse de saint Austremoine 16th century {{PD}}

14 July our own inner sense of authority determines our Path—it’s very simple—though those who don’t entirely accept that their life direction is truly in their own hands may insist that there are things they can do nothing about—and when we dissemble like that, the Universe typically complies, giving us a few things we really can’t do anything about—so don’t be that guy. Too what we think may need to adjust to the reality of the situation; reality shines a bright light on what is, reveals cleanly what isn’t, and expects us to accept it. (Perfecting Today: Ceres conjunct the North Node, Mercury sesquiquadrate Saturn, Sun sesquiquadrate Neptune)

Today’s image is an outdated swipe-card hotel key from another city, found in your winter jacket pocket. You have the key to something, but does it really matter anymore? You may be past the point when having it would make a difference. This points to the potential for putting energy into things already over, decided, or that are completely history–recognizing this allows you to re-channel the energy to something useful in the present, and allows you to really be present.
