What has become stiff, false, unreal must be awakened and revitalized. Henri Rousseau – ‘La zingara addormentata’ 1920 {{PD}}

Just a side note to my readers: Blue Moons are neither astrological nor astronomical events, and so they hold no significance in these arenas; they are only a ‘thing’ because two Full Moons happen to fall in a (man-made) calendar month.

The Full Moon occurs on 31 July 2015 at 3:42 AM Pacific time at 7 Aquarius 55. Unless we allow an orb of more than 4 degrees for aspects, which we won’t, we get no contacts for this Moon. That’s okay–it places all the emphasis, and pinpoints the culmination, to matters of the House axis in the natal chart across which this Full Moon lies. We have an ending, reach a peak or goal, a revelation or understanding, in the area of the chart where Aquarius falls. We can look to the opposite House, the one that holds the Leo Sun, for some sense of where this came from, for explanation. Since the Sun is the originating light, we should be able to draw a line from those Leonine or House related circumstances that led to our Aquarian event, culmination, or ending; in the beginnings, we see the seeds of our result.

The Sabian for the Sun, the originating light, is ‘A Communist Activist Spreading His Revolutionary Ideals’. As individuals, at some point in life we in some way rebelled from what was and declared our new goals and ideals; this is what has spurred developments along the path to today, toward the specific result we get at the Full Moon. Our own radical choices, our own idealism, our own need to be different, apart, independent, modern, or ‘new’ has compelled a particular kinetic energy through time, and here we see the outcome. We may note that the Full Moon occurs just before Venus dips back into Leo; there may be more than a little connection between this Full Moon outcome and what went down 8 years ago. What happens is no one’s responsibility but our own, born in our declaration of our values, and our insistence on letting everyone know what embodies our ideal.

The Full Moon Sabian is: ‘Beautifully Gowned Wax Figures On Display’. The image is a little eerie, as wax can have a hauntingly translucent quality that resembles skin, but skin seen in dreams or airbrushed to downy opacity. This offers the figures a kind of mocking resemblance to living Beings, but in no way can they be confused with humans–and that may be the point: real life and living isn’t something done for display, isn’t about being ‘beautifully gowned’ to no point or effect, and this Full Moon may show us where our own version of living for the way it looks must end.

The implication is that something unusual, idealistic, radical we chose in the past led us, no matter our intentions, to a stance or way of Being that is artificial, inflexible, that is for show only–and we must let it go now. In some way what we found so perfect in the past has become something fake; we must reconnect with the inspired, wild origins of what has become lifeless, and give it life once again.

The Sabian is, ‘Telephone Lineman At Work Installing New Connections’ That tells us that what reads to us as an ending (the FM) is really making room for better communications, possibly with others, but most definitely with ourselves. We are finding out about who we are, seeing connections within our own psyches that we never saw before, and this necessitates the installation of new ways of creatively bridging our thoughts and experiences; with fresh ways of seeing and thinking come fresh ways of realizing our purpose—the new connections are meant to show us what was there all along, but which we’re only now beginning to understand, see, embrace, or connect, one thing to another.

The Sun for the Full Moon is, ‘On The Beach, Children Play While Shellfish Grope At The Edge Of The Water’ Use of the word ‘grope’ is very unusual; it implies, again, evolution (“at the edge of the water”) and a growing consciousness. The image says we may, in the greater Universal sense, not even have crawled out of the oceans yet, in terms of understanding—or maybe it says we are still like children at play, lacking an awareness of the underpinnings that allow our (relatively) carefree attitude. In any case, this illumination adds to our burgeoning ability to see and measure our own progress, and to give it meaning.

'A pageant of childhood' Thomas Cooper Gotch {{PD}}

‘A pageant of childhood’ Thomas Cooper Gotch {{PD}}

The Full Moon is conjunct Jupiter, in a Fire Grand Trine with Pallas and Uranus, and apex to a Finger of God with base of Pluto-Chiron. This suggests two exaggerated dynamics working simultaneously, with both emphasizing the role of the individual (Leo) in the social context (Jupiter). The GT says that the FM can trigger smart and original action that expands our world or brings some personal matter to conclusion. The Finger suggests that successful healing brings transformation of matters of the House where the Full Moon falls in the natal chart, or brings transformation of the social position/ role. These configs may bring big, sweeping events, the abrupt cessation of something, and/ or fulfillment to some unique and original plan or dream—with this latter it may be more about ‘concluding the dream’, wrapping up planning, and for the first time seeing that your optimism was well placed—your plan is going forward.

The Sabian for the FM is, ‘A Pageant, With Its Spectacular Floats, Moves Along A Street Crowded With Cheering People’. A pageant is often a symbolic reenactment of a journey or progression of events; this one is presented like a parade, and suggests that the Full Moon brings a kind of celebration of what has been prepared, considered, nurtured, or expressed. It’s an overwhelmingly positive symbol, in the sense that things must be peaceful, prosperous, and the populace must be largely in agreement for this kind of thing to occur, and tells us that the results of the Full Moon are almost those of a harvest, a celebration of our own good choices.

'The Party at the Tavern' Luis Ricardo Falero {{PD}}

‘The Party at the Tavern’ Luis Ricardo Falero {{PD}}

Full Moon occurs on the 4th at 14 Cancer 30 at 8:52 PM Pacific time

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘In A Sumptuous Dining Hall Guests Relax After Partaking Of A Huge Banquet’. We’ve gorged ourselves on the results of our own behaviors, ‘served up’ to us by the Universe. This image only emphasizes that what we have in front of us to choose from at this time is directly related to what we have chosen and made ourselves—if we’ve gone too ‘rich’, too extreme in diet, we’re sickened or weakened, if low on nutrients we don’t have the energy or attention span needed, and so on, analogous to the idea that what we take in is what we use to build what comes out, and that the diet we speak of here is the way we use our energy and the choices that we’ve made.

The Sun, giver of life and core of our system, has its own Sabian, always worth a look as it provides the Full Moon light: ‘In A Hospital, The Children’s Ward Is Filled With Toys’. This suggests something a little odd: that perhaps here on Earth we are all ‘in hospital’ in a sense; we are here to heal, and even in a place where recovering wholeness is the aim, there are things that delight and distract us from our purpose. If we are clever, we can make our play part of (even the centerpiece of) our healing, combining our purpose with enjoyment, even within the confines of a place full of suffering and hurt.

‘Head Covered With A Rakish Silk Hat, Muffled Against The Cold, A Man Braves A Storm’ The Sabian Symbol for the Full Moon in Taurus draws an interesting picture, of someone taking the attitude that meeting the harshness of the elements (which we can translate as meeting Life itself) with a sense of personal style and aplomb is really the only way to go. To enter the storm already sullen, feeling defeated, is no way to proceed—and neither is taking a stance that is based on a belief that either doesn’t connect the way we think it does with reality, nor taking one because of the influence or approval of others–and this tells us that emphasizing the individual qualities that make us unique no matter what we’re doing really counts right now. It’s like a statement to the Universe, “I’m ready to play the game, my way.” The Universe’s response to that can only be an adventure.

For 20 September: empowerment at this particular time comes from facing it all (even what we’d rather not), standing up for ourselves and our right to be respected, and involves a willingness to at least question those things we typically consider sacred—they might need a fresh, objective look—and any ways in which we’ve been bending over backward to maintain harmony with the mate or on the home front may also need to be examined. We may have bent too much, thought of ourselves too little—and if we don’t see our needs now, rebellion against those we see as holding power or authority over us may rear its head. What we don’t want to do is fall into patterns of ego or temper from the past—these will get us nowhere in a hurry. Dark of the Moon begins late PM Pacific time. (Perfecting today: Black Moon Lilith parallel Juno and square Vesta, Uranus quincunx Ceres, Mars sesquiquadrate the South Node)

For the 21st: 5 AM PDT the Leo Moon quincunxes Earth. Our surroundings may challenge us emotionally or give us pause. Void begins at 5:48 AM PDT; the Moon enters Virgo at 8:54 AM PDT. 7 PM PDT the Moon creates a T-square by opposing Neptune with both squaring Mars. We may choose or act in spite of a lack of inspiration or imagination–that may leave us very sorry with the results.

Today’s image is a nurse preparing a shot for a small child. Are you anticipating something not-so-pleasant that is meant to be ‘good for you’? Sometimes we make ourselves do things purely out of a kind of superstitious, ritualistic belief that it will protect us; consider the true efficacy of those preventive measures, before subjecting yourself to them.

And on the Sabian for the Lunar Eclipse of 8 October: ‘Nature Spirits Are Seen At Work In The Light Of Sunset’. This reinforces the culmination factor of the eclipse (the sunset) and reassures us that, even if this is an ending for you with no clear-cut new persona yet showing itself, nature is preparing the elements necessary–all you need to do is wait. The conjunction of Uranus to this point emphasizes the spontaneous nature of what will occur, as well as its uniqueness to the needs and personality of each individual

To see it all, please subscribe! Here’s what’s in the current issue of ECLIPSE, just out, featuring the full report on the upcoming eclipses in October, as well as the Libra New Moon–and have a great weekend!

‘Salida de la Luna’ Guillermo Gomez y Gil 1906 {{PD-Art}}

I’m prompted to add the Sabians for tomorrow’s Full Moon, already seen in ECLIPSE:

The Sabian for this Full Moon is, ‘The Harvest Moon Illumines a Clear Autumnal Sky’ . In this instance, we are the Moon: changeable, intuitive, reflecting the light as spirit, and the sky is, of course, the Universe. We find our place, or at least understand it a little better, illumined in our purpose and function. The Sun’s Sabian is, ‘A Group Of Aristocratic Ladies Meet Ceremonially At A Court’s Function’. This , I think, refers to the Collective Feminine, which is in some ways the ‘civilizing’ influence on the animus. The court, in this instance, is the Universe, but this time we may be referring to Sedna’s role in the Full Moon: she is the intuitive knowing of Woman, the Life-Death-Life force as it manifests in nature and is then organized (the Court, Ceremonially) to the benefit of (Wo)Man. This time it is the experience of all women (‘Aristocratic’ suggesting the nobility of feeling involved) through time that ‘lights the way’ to our understanding, and suggests that for men at this Full Moon, enlightenment will come through his experience of the women in his life, resulting in a deep balance of knowing and feeling for both sexes.

On the Sabian for the Taurus Full Moon of 29 October 2012: ‘Never Thirst Again’

‘Well, Millstone, and Cistern Under Trees’ Cezanne c1870 {{PD-Art}}

The Full Moon arrives at 12:48PM PDT of the 29th at 6 Taurus 47. Commentary on the meaning of the Full Moon is from the latest issue of ECLIPSE; this particular excerpt discusses the Sabian symbol for the meeting of Moon and Earth:

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘The Woman of Samaria at the Ancestral Well’. In the New Testament of the Bible, this is the woman who goes to the well as Jesus sits near it, and since he has no equipment with which to reach into the well and pull up water, he asks her for a drink. Apparently this surprises her, as the Jews and the Samaritans did not at that time interact; they begin a conversation, where Jesus talks of the power of knowing God as water, and famously tells her that if she drinks from the well, she’ll be thirsty again, while if she drinks in the spiritual sense, she’ll never thirst again. It’s notable, though, that she’s only convinced that Jesus knows what he’s talking about when he speaks of her 5 previous husbands, and that she lives now with a man she’s not married to–then she declares Jesus a prophet. She knows of the prophecy of the Messiah who will be called the Christ, and Jesus declares himself to be this figure. The suggestion may be that in some way we are, at this Full Moon, the woman of Samaria in spirit, lead to spiritual enlightenment (and this is not specifically a Christian enlightenment–I’m simply playing off the symbol and the story) by someone we would not usually encounter or have an exchange with, who ‘sees’ into us in a way we don’t think is possible, and who in some way acts as a spiritual example for us.

29 Jan 2010: The Leo Full Moon–Serious Play

28 Thursday Jan 2010

Full Moon Sabian, January Full Moon

‘Assertive Play’ might be the way to describe the energy of this Leo Full Moon (10:17 PM PST at 10 Leo 14), with a conjunction to Mars and a sesquiquadrate to Uranus being the only aspects making close (less than two degrees) contact to the Earth/Moon combination. The energy of ego, action, assertion, and anger touches the Moon/ Earth and fires the culmination energy of a Full Moon with the urge to ‘get it all out,’ expressed through the ‘I am’ of Mars and Leo. The sesquiquadrate to Uranus suggests the individuality and rebellious urges must adjust to the ego and identity needs; the group needs must adjust as well, as the individual makes it clear to the group just what she or he will or won’t do. It’s a show-down of sorts, whether that involves a response to group demands or pressures, or a need to express one’s Will in no uncertain terms, even if this only involves an internal resolution–no one comes out from under the energy of the Full Moon without making a statement.

The Sabian for the Full Moon supplies some interesting imagery that clues us in to the possibility that this Self- expression doesn’t have to be grim or angry, that in fact it may only succeed if we take a lighter approach. ‘Children Play on a Swing Hanging From the Branches of a Huge Oak Tree’ The children, of course, are the human element in this, representing ourselves, but the symbol on which they play is the oak, a type of tree that has across cultures represented the concept of strength–the Latin robur means both ‘oak’ and ‘strength,’ showing how closely aligned the concepts sometimes are, and Pliny the Elder equated the Greek word for oak, drus, with the word Druid, the result of which was that Druids were deemed ‘Oak-Men,’ in spite of the fact that this isn’t necessarily the way the Druids described themselves. This may imply that each of us will be able to express due to the strong framework we’ve built that contains our world and offers stability–and that those who haven’t created such a life structure may hesitate to express, play, and make the Self-statement they are inclined to, thus short-circuiting what they could gain from the Full Moon energy.

See forecasts and special notes for the New and Full Moons of February, March, and April (material that won’t be on the blog) in Eclipse magazine http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/eclipse-in-depth-astrology-for-the-21st-century/
