Asserting yourself doesn’t always bring the results you want. John William Waterhouse ‘Apollo And Daphne’ 1908 {{PD}}

First I want to talk about that prolonged sextile between Jupiter and Black Moon Lilith that lasts through mid-September. I should’ve noted that they stay in sextile as they move on–that means those who have that natal point precise at the beginning of the sextile will see pressure and effect lessen with time, while a whole new set of individuals will find their natal body or point at the apex. Those are 22-25 of Taurus as the pair gradually moves, with Jupiter finally pulling ahead and away by degree after the middle of the month. As pointed out by one thoughtful reader, we do see Saturn enter the mix, along with the transiting Moon briefly, on 30 August, bringing a tendency to either manifest emotions or suppress them, but considering Jupiter-Black Moon Lilith is all about exaggeration, belief, ‘the facts’, and what we have hidden, ignored, denied, or find unjust, we may see both options at work in those who respond to this, with all of us finding either the manifestation of, or suppression of, some Jupiter-BML related matter.

What else do we see at work, pre-eclipse? Saturday the 19th we find we can re-visit in a highly successful way our own thoughts on ‘the facts’, beliefs, what we’ve been taught (or indoctrinated with); we’re likely to see what’s right and wrong about our own ideas, and this offers a moment of clarity vis a vis that Jupiter-BML sextile. If we’ve tried to present our point previously and lacked full success, we should try again today–it will go much better, our manner prone to foster understanding, with a bonus of offering ourselves a sense of freedom from what may have been a pressing need to communicate. What we shouldn’t do is trust instinct to guide us–there’s too big a blind spot around our interests, today–instead be as conscious as possible, and oddly enough, you may want to avoid too many ‘I’ statements; that blind spot shadow takes in the Self-image, which means what we think we see in ourselves may be distorted or immediately challenged by the reality picture.

Winslow Homer – ‘Boy in Boat, Gloucester’ c1880 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a glum boy waiting alone on a dock for a boat ride. Much depends on how you interpret the picture. Do you see him as sad because he’s alone, or as not looking forward to the boat ride? I saw him as lacking enthusiasm for the activity, and for me that brought up the idea of activities that are presented as ‘fun’ that the individual sees as anything but. Are you subjecting yourself to things simply because someone else thinks you should enjoy it? And on the other hand, if you saw the boy as sad because he’s alone, what loneliness in you needs assuaging, right away?

Sunday the 20th we’ve got an action plan–but in our eagerness to share our originality, our inventiveness, to stand out as unique, we could injure others or our own reputation, and in particular, we could communicate things that might inadvertently damage our relationships or our earning potential. This is a day to step, speak, and share with care, to shine fully aware of what we’re conveying–which can be a tricky thing to do.

Are you expecting that slow-moving thing to get you where you want to go? Illustration by Virginia Frances Sterret {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a pair of turtles slowly approaching each other. Is it romance? A showdown? Will a fight ensue? Will they mate, and how long will that take? Do they even see that they’re heading right toward each other, or is sight not a prominent sense for them? What in your life is moving so slowly you feel it might never arrive, happen, or reveal its true nature? And then what will, or should, you do about it?

Enjoy your weekend!

Dream time has been very weird lately, hasn’t it? The images are almost undecipherable, the messages cloaked in emotion and not easily sorted out. Don’t take any of it too much to heart; at least some of it is a product of the Universal vibration at present. Rest easy as you can, and know that these images are prophecy only in the way there’s always something coming–and what we see in dream life now may bear little resemblance to the actual future.

Remember that trine between the Sun and Black Moon Lilith we talked about yesterday? For a few hours on the 12th it becomes a Fire Grand Trine as the Moon moves into the last decan of Aries (later AM Pacific)–and this happens just after the Moon forms a T-square by opposition to Jupiter and square to Pluto. The energy is big, sweeping, serious, though it doesn’t feel heavy, except in the way we see (or perhaps I should say ‘perceive’, as not everything will be on the surface or immediately identifiable) it shuffling the chess pieces on our board. We get to the end of the day with things considerably different, arranged in a way we didn’t anticipate, as at least some of what happens involves having to attend to (and so acknowledge feelings about) those things we’d rather ignore or deny. Know that there’s liberation to be found in dealing with things, and be aware that, particularly right now, we must be willing to allow others the autonomy to make their own decisions, no matter what we believe.

Mercury also begins apparent retrograde in Virgo, needing to backtrack only 7 minutes to perfect a trine to Pallas. This suggests that at least part of the meaning of this retro period will involve critical discernment (Virgo) of what’s wise, what’s practical, what skills are needed (Pallas). This sets the tone for the entire period; make sure that what you review and re-do brings answers that address those Pallas questions.

Today’s word image is a bowling ball floating on the water. Impossible, right? We may encounter something just as unlikely today–but in this case, accept what you see, but verify how it’s done, even though that takes the ‘magic’ out of it, as you’ll be much better off knowing the ‘why and how’ behind it.

Anticipation may be the theme on the 13th. We see the Sun trining a retrograde Saturn, Vesta and Neptune moving toward opposition, Mars heading toward a quincunx to Pluto and sextiles to Zeus and Jupiter, and there are a coupe of close semi-sextiles that link energies through a mild tension: Mars-Venus, and Chiron-Uranus, which we can read as, ‘man-woman/ animus/ anima’ and ‘sudden hurt or healing, wounding accident, spontaneous display of unique skills’. We may spend the day in a state akin to waiting, but not knowing just what we’re waiting for. The Moon in Taurus counsels us to relax and enjoy creature comforts–that’ll be my goal, and should be yours, too.

Today’s word image is: a sea serpent pokes his head up out of a choppy lake. Hmmm. Again with an image that may or may not be a reality. And again, accept that you saw it, but don’t accept anyone else’s definition of what it actually is.

Sometimes we have unrealistic expectations prompted by what we see around us, and insist on trying to live up to them. ‘Portrait of Marchesa Brigida Spinola Doria’ 1606 Artist Unknown {{PD}}

Though our thoughts center on priorities, values, and what we find sacred (who am I kidding–we’re a little obsessed with all that’s most dear to us!) we’re probably thinking about these so much because we have a sneaking suspicion that someone might take one or more of these away, or that time, the Powers-That-Be, or our own destructiveness might eliminate from our lives what we desire most. Understand that our highest values permeate our thoughts–and ideals are just that, often impossible standards that nothing can live up to. We’re also seeing our ambitions and desires in exaggerated form, perhaps seeing examples within the social order that we feel hard pressed to match. These are the reasons we are feeling stressed around such nebulous and demanding factors–and throw in the way transiting Saturn is inexorably moving toward the current Black Moon Lilith point, as well as the lingering Jupiter-Pluto contact, and we have a recipe for personal paranoia and a fear that the real world or those with power (who, strangely, we’re never imagining as ourselves) may blow it all up. I’m not saying this can’t happen, but I am saying it’s all much more within your control than you might think–and that should be very reassuring.

Los Angeles Alligator Farm — in a 1906 postcard {{PD}}

Today’s word image is an alligator locked away in a box; someone lets it out. Alligators don’t belong in cages, but neither do they belong roaming around where people are. What thing do you feel threatened by that’s where it is because of an inappropriate action that preceded it–and what will you do about it?

The Lantern Bearers, 1908 Maxfield Parrish {{PD}}

Today, the 5th, we find ourselves mulling big dreams, huge ambitions, massive desires, and plotting how to get ‘there’ from ‘here’–and we have an excellent chance of doing so, just as long as we can accept ‘the facts’, and avoid exaggerating our own abilities and so overestimating our chances at success. The issue is that we may resist ‘What Is’ to an astonishing degree; previous injuries to the psyche and the identity may be the source and may cause us to distrust our own thoughts and beliefs. Know this: those Big Dreams are meant to inspire, to spur creative action, and to prompt us to consider opportunities that will present in the near future. Mercury will retrograde in Virgo in a week; use the next seven days to dream and imagine, and the retro period to review with a critical and discerning eye. That way you’ll be ready to act in just about a month, post-eclipses.

The Joyous Festival
Gaston La Touche

Today’s word image is fireworks that land in a dry field and spark a small fire. Fireworks are a thing of celebration–or they can be what’s caused by someone wanting to stir things up and create chaos. It almost doesn’t matter what spirit fuels them with this image, though, because the result is that susceptible material burns. A haphazard display, a lack of care with this volatile form of energy, can ignite what’s prone to go up in smoke in the first place. This scenario may caution us; if we are the one lighting it up, we need to take care over the consequences, over who or what might ‘get burned’, and if we’re around this kind of display, we need to be cognizant of the potential damage, and perhaps to protect ourselves from the perpetrator.

Just a Little AstroEssence for Your Weekend 29-30 July 2017 The Undertow

‘The Mermaid’ Howard Pyle 1909 {{PD}}

For the 29th, the focus is on the single aspect perfecting today, which is the Sun completing a sesquiquadrate (135 degrees) to Pluto. Our attention is drawn repeatedly to what we want to change, to the darkness, to sex, to what enrages us, to what we are passionate about, to Power, and this is through multiple forms of irritation, upset, fear, and the need to alter things, especially ourselves, in order to avoid a destructive or transformative course. How to handle it? Let go of the compulsion to pronounce judgement, with its tendency to unspool a string of disparagements or assumptions from there. If we can meet each thing that draws our attention with a total lack of prejudice, we may be surprised at how what would’ve been a tense, unproductive, or even combative situation can morph into something that offers a deep and empowering experience.

Today’s word image is a ballot yet to be voted. We all want a say in things, but may be prone to neglect those opportunities to have an impact with which we’re presented. When you get a vote, speak up, cast your ballot–you’ll find that the more you express your desires, the more the Universe responds, and the bigger your influence on what surrounds you grows, so Fill Out Your Ballot!

‘Ruine von Hoff’ Hans Hartig Kirchen before 1936 {{PD}}

On the 30th conscious thought, words and communications and the surfaces of things are positive, empowering, upbeat–but there’s a strong and persistent undertow that seems to present impossible dilemmas, that implies any chance of ambition and desire fulfillment will be trashed, that hints what’s been denied or ignored may overwhelm conscious choices, and that sees even loving relationships inadvertently wound–why? The frightening unpredictability of the Universe and its seeming hostility toward us is simply a reflection of our own erratic nature. If we are individuals who can commit, who can keep a promise, who can show restraint and empathy, then we will see reflected back to us that same consistency within the Cosmos; if we are not willing to commit ourselves, if we can’t go into something without holding options in reserve, without hedging our bets, then we may find it tough going today.

‘Trout’ – Walter M. Brackett 1867 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is: on the shores of a lake, two women fish, clean them, build a rack from branches on which to hang the fillets, then start a fire under it to smoke their catch. Do you have one or more skill sets that can take you from inception of a thing right through to its completion? How Self-reliant are you? How practical are your abilities? Are any of your skills ones that could help you or others survive?

Thomas Jones – ‘Mur à Naples’ 1781 {{PD}}

Every smart or practical choice seems to present obstacles, walls, restrictions, or suggests we will have to do without–why is that? It’s not really that doing the wise thing is suppressive so much as smart choices have limits built in–that’s part of what makes them smart! Accept that, look for the underlying harmonies and balance within all circumstances, and notice how everything is currently focused on the future–and trust that those conditions will guide things successfully, if we can resist jumping in and monkeying around unnecessarily. In other news, the Sun enters Leo,and lions everywhere stretch and roar under the summer sun/ winter glare, bringing our attention to letting ourselves shine, but don’t put too much pressure on yourself right now: we’re in Dark of the Moon territory, and should relax.

‘Clouds over the Black Sea–Crimea’ – Boris Israelevich Anisfeld 1906 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a blue the color of a clear sky. The sky’s the limit? Maybe, but the important thing is a feeling of expansiveness, rather than a literal no-boundaries kind of experience (see forecast note, above).

New Moon in Leo 23 July 2017 Fight For What You Love

Henri-Jean Guillaume Martin {{PD}}

Conflicting inclinations set up the energy dynamic of the New Moon: on the one hand, we may find ourselves digging and digging in relation to stated values and priorities–we somehow just can’t trust what we see–and yet we see the perfect way to benefit through Love or Finances, specifically by focusing on what’s loved, important to us, valuable for its beauty, or treasured. These impulses may or may not present at cross-purposes, and some of us will delve into the essence of only one or the other, but together they set the stage and grab our attention, even as the New Moon slips in, plants a seed, and carries things forward.

The New Moon in Leo occurs in the wee hours Pacific time, at 2:46 AM at 00 Leo 44. It perfects just slightly more than one degree from conjoining Mars–and that means both bodies will move on very quickly to perfect contact to the Warrior energy. A very rough Fist is formed, with the NM apex to the square made between Black Moon Lilith and Neptune. This suggests trouble, in the form of rage or denial coupled with deception, delusion, or imagination run amok, that creates a need to ‘strike out’, to go it alone, or to let the ego drive, feeling we are ill-equipped to handle things any other way.

LOVE sculpture by Robert Indiana, Photo By Hu Totya – Own work {{PD}} https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=1222063

That’s unfortunate–but is there a way out, a remedy to subconscious anger or righteous resentment? Yes, via the New Moon’s novile to Venus in Gemini. Think about, talk about, consider what you love–that’s the best way to both see how to react and what to do.

The New Moon makes two other aspects, an out-of-sign trine to Chiron, and an out-of-sign square to Uranus. Expect jolts, but healing, Higher Understanding, and easy hurt, skills called forward to address the unexpected. The Sabian for the New Moon offers a clue: ‘Blood Rushes To A Man’s Head As His Vital Energies Are Mobilized Under The Spur Of Ambition’. We may be inclined to try to handle things through the intellect (Uranus) rather than the heart (Leo), though the image makes clear the man is driven by desire (Venus)–and it would be a mistake to focus solely on the mind; we need to utilize the mind in support of those cared-for people and issues, rather than letting the intellect, or anger, lead.

Though I don’t usually subscribe to checking every Sabian, I think considering the importance of Venus, we could use whatever hints the symbol might provide: ‘A Tumultuous Labor Demonstration’. It’s in the midst of chaos, upset, fighting for what we want (New Moon conj Mars) that we discover, reiterate, or crystallize the presence and intention of Love–and the New Moon provides the energy and focus to put that Love into action.

Your Weekend 15-16 July 2017 No Swan Song

We may be in denial of negatives or the darker side of things today, the 15th, but that actually serves us well, allowing us to take full advantage of a strong inclination to take care of what we’ve been putting off, and to sort out what’s smart and practical, and so supports our overall health. Relax, attend to things, and don’t worry–things run like clockwork, if we let them.

Roman mosaic depicting Leda and the swan from the Sanctuary of Aphrodite, Palea Paphos, Cyprus, 3rd century AD
Photo by Ken and Nyetta {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a swan. You may have personal associations beyond the way swans generally suggest grace, fidelity (they mate for life), and beauty. Do you tend to ‘swan’ in to situations and blow everyone away (for good or ill)? In what life areas are you a swan, exhibiting a high degree of integrity, skill, and/ or artfulness? Do you know anyone who hides their nefarious intentions behind a graceful mask, a la Zeus and Leda?

For the 16th we may find ourselves living in our heads, our minds active with power issues, potentials for expression, and our own ambition picture and its odds for success. Keyword for today is, ‘Adjustment’, not only to changing circumstances, but in order to embrace the benefits of the unexpected. Too, be open to modifying your views about the past; flexibility in seeing how you got to where you are will make things go forward a lot easier than will clinging to a single, possibly distorted, interpretation of yesterday.

Party after a game of bocce–see? That’s the spirit! By State Library of Queensland, Australia – https://www.flickr.com/photos/statelibraryqueensland/8755455497/, No restrictions, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=53527046

Today’s word image is a set of bocce balls. Is it really fair to declare that Life is a Game? It seems so serious when we’re emerged in it, and to each individual, certainly, it will eventually be life or death. Maybe the trick is to realize that, as in a game, conditions are ever-changing, according to the players, and to be too firmly married to one image, label, or identity is to lose the ability to improvise that all the best players have.

Come here often? You may enjoy a book, or might consider a small donation in support of the blog. Thank you!

Briton Rivière – ‘Phoebus Apollo’, 1895 {{PD}}

On the 9th there’s a Cardinal T-square involving Sun opposed Pluto with both square asteroid Zeus that probably grabs the lion’s share of our attention: we see the naked power picture, and how that doesn’t serve our ambitions and desires. This sounds like a harsh formula, until we see that by illuminating who enjoys what prerogatives, this circumstance shows us exactly what we need to do to remove obstacles, access our own power, and get what we want. Be prepared: we get blow-back from our own minds and ego, both of which may argue that problems are fixed and to think otherwise is unhealthy–but that’s not so. Take action, make plans, and do so with courage–it’s a time of unusual clarity of vision, so take advantage of that.

Today’s word image is myriad bubbles escaping from the sea bed. This image might suggest surprise, for who expects oxygen to burble right up out of the ocean floor? Look for something very necessary in an unexpected place, and believe it when you see it.

Your Week 30 June-6 July 2017 O! The Contradictions!

29 Thursday Jun 2017

astrology, Mars opposed Pluto, My Daily Astrology Diary, My Weekend Astro Diary, The Astro Essence, The Daily Word image, Venus in Gemini

‘A Hamadryad’ (1895) John William Waterhouse {{PD}}

Choices Without Rewards seem to be all that’s offered on the 30th; but is that really so? No matter what we do, clearly it won’t serve our desires or help fulfill ambitions, and relationships, values, and financial needs all seem to create conflict with our desired life direction. Are things truly that bleak? No no, and no. Here’s the thing: we’re thinking in unhealthy ways, processing events and alternatives in their most confining and least appealing forms; we’re telling ourselves there are ‘issues’ or impasses, rather than acknowledging that we just don’t want to, prefer not to, or that we are pretending circumstances are other than they are. The way around is right there, but you have to get real and be willing not only to accept the responsibility for making change but for its potential consequences, as well. If not, sit back and let the day go by–no harm, no foul.

Today’s word image is a driver who believes others always follow the rules of the road. I once had someone assure me in head-on traffic: “See that double yellow line there? Nothing can cross over that.” Yes, it was mansplaining, but beyond that, it was daft; paint provides literally no barrier at all–and as long as we don’t meet someone on the road with a death wish, we’ll likely all do our best to travel without incident–but that doesn’t mean we pretend there’s some magic at work, protecting us or our vehicle from mayhem or accident. Accepting that things won’t always go as we expect is required for successful navigation; is there some capacity in which you are exercising a kind of magical thinking, refusing to acknowledge that you must be more consciously vigilant, or cautious than you wish to be, after all?

The 1st arrives and we’re, well, out-of-sorts. Buried Instincts and things we know-but-don’t-know push up into relationship and financial matters and cause all kinds of bruising. Nagging too is the sense that we’re not executing our goals perfectly (let’s be real, who does?), and we’re haunted by a ghost or two from the past who insist on rattling their chains. How to handle it all? Strength at this time is found in mental toughness, in a clear and confident assessment of our own personal autonomy and ability. Owning one’s sense of authority within our ‘territory’ is a must. Those who bring forward a sense of their own Self-worth in answer to issues do best; those who pretend they lack agency place themselves at the mercy of those who would commandeer their power and use it as their own.

‘Cloud Shadows’ (1889) Winslow Homer {{PD}}

Today’s word image is an enormous shadow that passes over, with nothing above to cast it. Mysterious, right? Even a little unsettling. The issue isn’t that the shadow exists–we see it–but that we may spend an inordinate amount of time trying to locate the source. Think symbolically: trying to pinpoint what is forming the shadow may in the end help us eliminate it, but what we really need to do in the moment is accept that this shape of darkness just is–and then make choices that will provide some light, or take us out from under its breadth and scope.

On the 2nd our highest priorities and values literally and figuratively make up our reality; we see the results of our choices, our actions, and our investments–and we may feel a sense of power as we survey our achievements and their effects, or we may fight the impulse to burn it all to the ground–it all depends on how flexible we are in thinking about those concrete results. If we don’t mind admitting that we could improve our efforts, that maybe what we think we value is not what we actually value as revealed by our surroundings and outcomes, and if we Forgive Ourselves for not being all-powerful or all-knowing, then we are likely to gain a deep understanding of our inner workings and intentions that will probably make us a lot less concerned with worldly power, and a lot more proud of who we are.

Aspect to watch out for: Mars opposed Pluto across Cancer-Capricorn=could turn into a contest between the angrily passive-aggressive and the hateful won’t budge–or maybe the offended side that’s hosting a pity-party and the stern denier/ crusher of dreams. In any case, a situation where tempers and an insistent Willfulness may be disguised as sadness, vulnerability, ‘the rules’, the voice of authority, ‘it’s for your own good’, ‘do it for Mom’, or the warning to restrict yourself or risk ‘death’ of one kind or another. There’s a lot of rage covered over with what appears to be pretty innocuous stuff. No, there’s nothing dramatic about that at all.

If you want to harness the energy, be willing to choose or act based on what you care about, based on taking an empathetic view of the world, and by asking what nurtures the world, what harms it. Avoiding destructive impulses, especially when these are sanctioned by authorities, is half the battle; acting in positive and supportive forms is the other.

Today’s word image is a speeding red fire engine. Sometimes they’re fluorescent green, but the goal is the same: to be not just heard but seen and so avoided by bystanders, allowing the crew to get where they need to be as quickly as possible. Are you the fire engine, needing others to see, hear, and get out of your way? If so, ask yourself if your goal is that much more urgent or important than anyone else’s–and if your answer is yes, then I wish you good luck in separating those conjoined twins or negotiating world peace–but if not then you may want to consider how your rush or blaring siren or push forward may be creating a less-than-positive reaction in others. Or are you a bystander, in danger of being flattened if you don’t get out of the way of a Self-important someone in a hurry? And if you do see others speeding by you, does that suggest you aren’t motivated enough to make a difference yourself? Or do you lack a sense of urgency that may be needed if you’re to have a significant impact (‘put out the fire’ or ‘save lives’ in some form)? Finding a balance between pushing forward on our personal agenda and having respect and regard for others may be the theme today.

On the 3rd we’re just Too Open To Hurt from the social arena or from society’s attitudes or policies; it springs from our own imperfect processing of and understanding of the past and how it influenced our thinking. Trust instincts and skills, and be willing to look at how many assumptions, rather than facts, may lie beneath our beliefs. Seeing the gap between what really is and what we think is, should prompt us to drop some of our less successful filters. Too, we may see deja vu-like echoes of May 21st, when the Sun and Mercury met in Superior Conjunction, and so deal with things we thought were already concluded (this last reflecting Sun parallel Mercury).

Today’s word image is a skull and crossbones–pirates or poison? If it’s pirates, you may need to be on the lookout for someone attempting to ‘raid’ your assets, while if it’s poison, this may be a warning you’re taking in something highly detrimental to your system.

The 4th we may become aware of the ways some of our values are based not on ideals, but on anger, injustices suffered, or our own insistence on ignoring certain realities–and that makes those Not True Values But Reactions. What we hold dear should be an expression of our ‘Best Self’, not created in a knee-jerk response to something we don’t find admirable; this sullies the ideal with negatives that almost guarantee our experiences of it will be full of conflict or disillusion. It’s time to be honest about those instances where our beliefs have been driven by fantasy or what’s unreal or out-of-touch; look for the thought sparked by choice, the ‘happy accident’, or the sudden realization fueled by the unexpected, to deliver insight and answers, right on time.

Venus enters Gemini=don’t live in your head or rationalize when it comes to relationships or finances, and look to the House matters where Venus now transits in the personal chart to see where you can gain through communicating, sharing info, or coming clean.

Today’s word image: a spaceship lands on an unexplored planet. What truly alien thing have you been brave enough to venture into, lately? Give yourself credit, just for the doing.

For the 5th, only Shakespeare will do (from Romeo and Juliet): “Why then, O brawling love! O loving hate! O any thing, of nothing first create! O Heavy Lightness, serious vanity, Misshapen chaos of well-seeming forms, Feather of lead, bright smoke, cold fire, sick health, Still-waking sleep, that is not what it is! This love feel I, that feel no love in this.”

Oh, and also the Sun squares Jupiter and trines Neptune, making for intense creativity, as long as we don’t get pulled into a social brawl, waylaid by the facts, or find ourselves contradicting our own beliefs (see the quote above for the contradictory possibilities).

Today’s word image is a suggestion: a sunrise meditation.

Today, the 6th, is all chillingly-cool shadows on the hottest summer days (or sterile-bright glaring sun on snow, depending on your hemisphere), affronts and outrages that are both unjust and illogical, and exhibitions of strength that result in unhealthy developments. What do we have going for us? Somehow we are still pinging our Radar On The Future, and by keeping to our highest values and commitments, we create uniquely intelligent ways to proceed.

Giles Corey of the Salem Farms” (1868), John Whetton Ehninger {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a dip back into the past, where history gets re-written: a 17th century witch trial, where reason suddenly prevails and everyone goes home. It’s not always easy to admit that your cow just wandered away, rather than being transported to the next town by Goody Lowell, and it’s an inability to say, ‘Yeah, maybe that was my fault because I didn’t shut the pen’ that sends us looking to blame others who’ve irritated us in some way. Consider the modern equivalent, and vow that you will not allow small irks to escalate into life-changing accusations. The keyword here is, ‘Rational’.

Have a wonderful week!
