‘Gentle Julia’ By Booth Tarkington {{PD}}

Our values, standards, priorities, commitments, what we find sacred, we experience them all today as a little tender; they’ve taken a pummeling of late, and we’ve seen repeatedly that they need re-shaping, in order to fit who we are now, and what we want to add to the world as it currently exists. It’s tough–values are inherently stiff, that’s just logical that they should be, why else have them?–but they’ve got to be flexible enough to grow and change with us, as we learn more and more about ourselves and the world. Re-frame them accurately, but handle them gently, to allow them to heal–and none of this will prevent you gaining today, especially as you pursue ambitions.

Some of the ways to handle Mercury retrograde—

Today’s word image is a white rabbit in the snow. Hard to see, right? What thing are you not noticing that’s actually right in front of you? And does it matter if you react or not? The white rabbit lead Alice on a merry (and often distressing) chase; do you want that kind of distraction in your life, or is an adventure exactly what you’re looking for?

Your Weekend 2-3 December 2017 Lunar Domination

Albert Aublet – ‘Selene’ 1879 {{PD}}

The Full Moon in Gemini falls on the 3rd at 7:47 AM Pacific time at 11 Gemini 40, and in spite of a host of other aspects forming this weekend, dominates the atmosphere, at least in part because of its to-the-degree connections to Neptune (to which the axis forms a T-square) and Jupiter (quincunx the FM event). Too, Mars and Juno-Hygeia form the base for a Fist of God with the Full Moon as apex, and Uranus-Pallas, close together in Aries, form a semi-square to the FM, and it all happens roughly 9 hours after Mercury’s apparent motion shifts to retrograde–and that’s all, but damn, isn’t that enough?

These contacts promise that what culminates, ends, presents itself completely formed, or resolves will challenge us on a creative, spiritual, or idealistic level, presenting us with a scenario that forces us to act in a way that defines one or more Neptunian areas (including those areas ruled by Neptune in the personal natal chart)–and that shows us the way our beliefs need to be modified, and/ or the facts accommodated (Jupiter quincunx).

The Fist smacks us with an issue centered in conflict between a healthy sense of personal authority and aggression or egocentricity, our own or others’. Our natural reaction is to fight an incursion on our autonomy (or what we believe is our autonomy, if we are in full-ego mode), in this instance with the resolution offered by the circumstances of the Full Moon, and as with the rest of the activity, the focus is likely to be mental (Gemini), as we process the meaning and implications of what’s occurring. However, the status of Mercury, newly retro, suggests that even if we seem to see the whole picture, understand the facts or issues, or know the lay of the land, we can’t possibly–it’s almost guaranteed we’ll be making choices blind (relatively speaking), and under stress (Merc retro at 29 degrees).

The semi-square may be the most prominent bit initially, as it suggests sudden actions taken at an individual level that are either very wise, or very stupid, precipitating all the other Full Moon effects (though Mars opposed Uranus on the 1st, then opposed Pallas, contra-parallel Uranus, and and quincunx Sedna on the 2nd, followed by a sesquiquadrate to Neptune on the 3rd, scream of a possible series of bad choices, or possibly out-of-control or hyper-spontaneous or deluded ones, that lead to that precipitating move).

Anita Rée ‘Head of a Girl’ {{PD}}

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘A Negro Girl Fights For Her Independence In The City’. Set aside the antiquated language, and we have the image of someone who, in Western society (‘The City’), might have to fight much harder than others do to gain her autonomy, or even to get adequate consideration. Again, we have the ‘language’ of the Fist, and the need to guard our own healthy sense of personal authority. This suggests that the Full Moon result will create the need for struggle, and possibly also the personal need to declare one’s independence from something or someone that has exerted undue influence, held an advantage, that has ‘kept one down’ for far too long, or that is now trying to impose their Will (echoing the Fist and the Mars activity leading up to the Full Moon).

Nandina and Rooster from the Colorful Realm of Living Beings by Itō Jakuchū, c. 1761-65 (Edo Period) {{PD}}

The Sabian for the Sun, which originates the light that makes the appearance of the Full Moon from our stance on Earth possible, is, ‘A Flag Turns Into An Eagle; The Eagle Into A Chanticleer Saluting The Dawn’. To my mind this suggests that at least some of the Full Moon circumstance/ what draws our attention at this time is related to the political situation in the US. We see a sense of country morphing into a rather aggressive symbol, that then morphs into a crowing rooster–a step down for the eagle! The eagle maintains a certain dignity–seeking prey is part of what it does, so no one should be surprised that it indulges in predatory behavior perfectly reflective of its nature. A rooster, however, makes a lot of noise, crowing about something (‘The Dawn’) that will occur whether he announces it or not–so in a way, almost as if he’s taking credit for it. Sound familiar? If you live somewhere else, your conclusions may vary 🙂

Mercury retrogrades very late in the evening Pacific time of the 2nd, at 29 tense degrees of Sagittarius, possibly causing us to question what we know, or to explode over what we find out! What we need to be aware of is that, whatever happens, it’s something we need to know. Once Mercury picks up retro speed it will run right into Saturn–and that hints that what we learn with the retrograde will help us deal with some obstacle, or some facet of the reality picture–so we’ll end up being glad, even though initially the revelation may be stressful.

The only other thing I’d like to mention is the Jupiter trine to Neptune on the 2nd. This could be an island of ideal opportunity, creative expansion or outreach, or expanded expression or sense of spirituality, that comes forward in the midst of mild mental chaos, or it could act to exaggerate delusions or misperceptions that will fuel those Martian choices, actions, and so results, that come with the Full Moon.

And here’s a post on Merc retrograde you might find worthy of review—

Have a wonderful weekend!

Józef Pankiewicz – ‘Nocturne: Swans in the Saxon Garden in Warsaw by night’ c1894 {{PD}}

That shadowy disquiet we felt yesterday continues today. It may feel a bit like we’re in a car at night, careening down a pitch black mountain road: our headlights (forethought, sensibilities, ‘the facts’) light up a narrow cone of road at any one time, but our sense of sheer cliffs either side, of the narrowness of the paved way, and of the potential for upset by uphill traffic or a gust of wind or an unexpected hairpin turn make us fundamentally tense, disoriented, and distracted. The best way to combat this (though I don’t actually recommend fighting negative influences–they are meant to tell us something, so paying attention is important, embracing them as information, rather than a threat, is instrumental to understanding) is to reach out through relationships, finances, or the Arts, to pour yourself into relating, creating, or providing. As Venus enters Sagittarius she also parallels both Hygeia and the Black Moon Lilith point, suggesting that taking an open, far-sighted, exploratory attitude that fact-checks beliefs or that provides objective, reality-based feedback is the way to go. There’s no way to completely eliminate that uneasy, suspicious, or upsetting vibe–it lingers–but we can look in the direction of light, and so drain it of much of its power.

Bertha Lum ‘Point Lobos, 1920’ {{PD}}

Today’s word image is the wind, stirring the tops of the tall trees, bending them together, but leaving lower branches undisturbed. This is very much like the forecast for today, things agitated but essentially out of sight, too far away to directly impact us on the ground (or in our groundedness), only serving to make us uneasy. Just accept that not everything in our world is under our control–nor should it be–and consider that disturbances nearby don’t necessarily spill over, except in the most peripheral way, onto us, and so don’t really need our attention. Permission for one less worry or drain is granted.

This painting is like a memory, that perfect moment before the girls each went her own way, and ‘something happened’. Carl Vilhelm Meyer – ‘Landsbyens tre Gratier’ 1919 {{PD}}

Today we might feel haunted, by the disorienting push of change, by fears, by what lies deep and dark within us or out in the world, by something that lingers and stirs us at a primal level. We worry about our health–is that cough serious? was that lump there yesterday?–and this can’t help but influence our choices and actions, as we try to find balance in what seems to be a thoroughly capricious atmosphere. There is one direction we can take that will be rewarding: pursue ambitions and desires, particularly if they involve relationships, aesthetics, or assets. Pour your energy into those, and you won’t have time to contemplate the deep-dark, or dissipate forward motion with fear.

Today’s word image is an iPhone, and all other iterations of a mobile phone. A phone can represent information coming at us, which we can choose to be open to (‘answer the call’) or not. Have you ‘answered the call’, and if so, what have you done to make use of the information, and if not, what has made you ‘reject’ the call?

Lightning Over Denver By refractor – Flickr, CC BY 2.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=1102592

Change comes to the Path; life direction will be modified, and the sooner we embrace this as a need, rather than something to resist and struggle against, all the better. This shift can come from external circumstances that present us no choice, or internal ones that say, ‘Enough!’ and see us setting out shed of some previous situation. If we take the initiative this energy can bring a bit of brilliant transformation, while if we try to avoid it, we may be undermined in significant ways.

By Parallelprogrammer – Own work, CC BY-SA 4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=45435580

Undoubtedly this creates tension, and if it gets to us, escaping as erratic behavior, random acting-out, or in rebellion from what’s actually in our own best interests, we could cause serious chaos in our lives. Accept that life isn’t a static condition, and know that facing change willingly just makes it all that much easier.

Today’s word image is a piece of bleached muslin with a bright red embroidery on it. That’s very specific, but I think it can be boiled down to something red and white that will act as a cue, to bring us back to the present moment, to signal it’s time to be active in determining the matters before us, and to let us know that the Universe is receptive to our wants and needs, if we’ll only make those clear.

Have a great day!

Thinking about it won’t help today–perceptions are just too skewed to be accurate. George Dunlop Leslie – ‘Alice in Wonderland’ c1879 {{PD}}

Actions may be inspired, supported by the spiritual or the creative, or driven by delusions, but in any case it’s subtle, and choices are hard to see for what they really are, with Mars parallel Neptune. Add to this that we may favor what we desire over what’s practical or wise; relationships or financial possibilities may urge us to bend our own rules–don’t. (Venus quincunx Pallas). It’s a day during which remaining aware that perceptions may be mirage-like, wavering and shifting with the atmosphere, will be our best chance at avoiding a fall down the rabbit hole.

Today’s word image is an avenue of trees, filled with tiny lights. There’s something magical about the outdoors lit at night. Is it our lizard brain, relieved that we’re not vulnerable in the pitch-dark, is it the child within delighted at the spectacle, or is it that there are few other atmospheres that are so inherently romantic? It may be that we process this image with such optimism because a lighted avenue implies a ‘bright future’, somewhere still to go in life–and we all need that sense of positivity, movement forward, adventure, and purpose. If your idea of the future is ‘dark’, you might ask yourself what it would take to ‘light up’ the way forward, to make it truly worth living.

Eanger Irving Couse ‘Walpi Pueblo’ 1903 {{PD}}

You notice significant healing–well that’s good–and the mind is steady (if a bit repressed) and in tune with what’s smart and practical. Relationships and/ or finances, however, seem out-of-control or erratic in nature, divorced from the instinctual responses and reactions that can be so reassuring–and this may contribute to the sense that actions are futile, that choices don’t matter, or that at the very least one is disempowered by circumstances or the general opposition or uncooperativeness of others. Now is the time to plan, to lay the foundation, but not to go after results; stick to what you have control over–you can be there for you, even when others aren’t.

Today’s word image is a beautiful pine board, stored so long that it’s gently warped from dampness. Use what you’ve got; otherwise, one way or another, it becomes unusable.

Is there wisdom in working toward stability and the known, in looking to make things as secure and reassuring as possible, or is it that what’s permanent, restrained, or contained is where true wisdom lies, with whatever prompts it may offer on what to do? Hard to tell, especially as thoughts, actions, and reasoning are all alienated from the instinctual and that vital knowledge that is found just below the surface; our wants are too strong a motivator to allow us to see and consider things dispassionately. What is working like a charm are healthy, healed relationships and positive financial situations–let them be your guide, and your inspiration, and don’t sweat the chicken-or-egg nature of reality at this time.

Diego Velazquez – ‘An Old Woman Cooking Eggs’ 1619 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a seemingly unending stream of dirty dishes. Do you like your work? Are there some chores in life that you see as unrewarding, even ‘beneath’ you? Do you expect others to take care of the less desirable facets of life for you? Do you see individuals as more or less important, depending on their work? Do you embrace whatever’s set before you to do, or do you ‘save’ your efforts for what you see as important or consider your Soul Purpose? There are no wrong answers here, only ones that may help you see your own attitude a little more clearly.

See my books here–and thank you!

‘Heroic Strokes of the Bow’ By Paul Klee {{PD}}

“I can’t believe you said that!” (or, I can’t believe I thought that) is the essence of it today. Messages are shocking, thinking/ communications are erratic, and moves are spontaneous, sudden, and information is unreliable, or perhaps more rightly classified as unpredictable. Brace for the unexpected; you can’t really anticipate much else with Mercury trine Uranus.

‘Kürbisse’ By Emilie von Büttner c1825 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is fresh fruit, preserved in an unusually peak state for an unusually long time. Is it a miracle, or is it just that conditions are optimum right now? Decide this before declaring something extraordinary, and then consider what made things so.

Winter in Andalusia (Poplars and Sheep at Alcalá de Guadaira) 1880 {{PD}} By Emilio Sánchez Perrier

We enjoy lifts of several kinds over this period; here are the deets:

The big story for the 22nd is Neptune stationing direct, and yet our reaction to this lifting of the fog might be more about the other perfecting aspects: Jupiter sesquiquadrate Chiron, Mars conjoined Zeus, and the Sun parallel Hygeia. When a heavy like Neptune goes direct, we may not be conscious of the shift right away; we may feel something, but it’s likely that it will take a little time for such a change to gather a distinctive shape in our lives, often related to either the matters of the House Neptune is currently transiting, or the one Neptune rules in our natal chart–and that’s aside from any contacts Neptune makes at the point of direction, which can be especially potent in the way they are suddenly revealed, attain an aspect of creativity or idealism or take on spiritual depth, or conversely are obscured, if Neptune retro had been serving to lift the fog.

So, the energies surrounding the turnaround may feel something like this: the social order suffering from and also inflicting wounds (think the #MeToo movement, for one); on an individual level this suggests that the facts or beliefs, one’s own or others, may be painful to deal with, or that the difficult situation presented by those facts and beliefs requires us to offer healing or the Chirotic skill, again, to ourselves and/ or others. Getting bigger spiritually, especially in relation to our fellow humans, may be painful–not exactly surprising.

Then there’s the matter of actions and choices being fused with ambitions and desires, removing any real chance of objectivity–just be prepared to face this in yourself and in others, and cut everyone a little slack; we are passionate about things at this point, so precipitous acts and expression of the Will may cause a kind of ‘blanking out’ that overrides any of our normal reticence or cautions. But, the Sun’s contact tells us that, in the long-term, that Self-expression will ultimately be healthy, so we’re unlikely to damage anything we actually want to preserve.

Rik Wouters – ‘De strijkster (The Ironer)’ (1912) {{PD}}

Today’s word image is iron. Did you imagine something hot coming out of a forge, a cattle brand, perhaps, or something more mundane, a clothes iron, or possibly a hunk of ore, or a daily supplement consumed for your health? Iron has entered the lexicon in a number of ways: ‘strike while the iron is hot’, meaning take an opportunity when it presents itself; to ‘iron things out’ means to negotiate and come to agreement; something is described as ‘iron’, implying unbending strength. Consider whether you need a little more, or a little less, of whatever iron comes to mind.

And what about the 23rd, the day in the US known for gathering the family together to share . . . a turkey? Let’s be clear: it’s a celebration ostensibly triggered by the day the indigenous peoples saved European settlers from starving to death, a day that signaled the beginning of the end for natives in terms of autonomy and cultural, personal, and Collective freedom–and of course, we shouldn’t be celebrating the dominance of one group over another at all, however obliquely that applies. We have to consider what this holiday has become: a symbolic sharing of abundance, and a chance to celebrate that abundance, to be grateful, not just for what we have but for those who share our lives, in the here and now.

How are we to interpret it, then, when no new aspects perfect today? The implication is that we are awash in a combination of previous recent influences that are still reverberating, and those characteristic inclinations and proclivities that we carry natally. Expect the expected, heavily seasoned with current shifts in both the personal arena and the Zeitgeist.

Jupiter, hangin’ out with his eagle By Nicolai Abildgaard 1792 {{PD}}

Word image for the 23rd is an eagle tending a nest where the eggs will never hatch. Well that’s depressing! Sometimes Mother Nature plays a cruel trick on us, or maybe it’s just fate or our own persistent nature, but everyone at one time or another has pursued or tended diligently to something that has no life in it, that will never ‘hatch’ and live in the light of day. This may be a reminder not to pour our care into lifeless projects, ones where the potential has long since drained away, or maybe it urges us to let go of the things that will never be–not all eggs are meant to reach maturity–and how can we have room for the new, if we are perpetually mourning the old?

By the 24th we’ll begin to see how the Neptune direction is flavoring those things we find sacred, that we honor, and that we are committed to; we’ll also be highly aware of the positives of all that’s come forward lately, the rewards offered for not ignoring or denying what is, and we’ll get glimpses down real avenues of Power. What’s not working so well may be our thinking and reasoning, and those faculties that are so injured or warped by negative experience that we can’t see the objective or the factual without distortion. What comes under scrutiny is our ability to be truly rational; our response needs to be a willingness to consider that feedback may be showing us an elemental flaw in our system.

Sculpture “Peace” created by the conceptual artist Stephen J. Kaltenbach, 2005, near the Capitol Mall in Sacramento, California Photo By Carol M. Highsmith – Library of CongressCatalog: http://lccn.loc.gov/2013633917 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is meeting someone about whom you feel you already know a great deal. When that happens, do you let what you’ve heard influence your perceptions? Are you so busy looking for purported attitudes or behaviors that you don’t see who’s actually standing in front of you? No real relationship can develop when prejudice exists, and perceptions are bound to be artificial, filtered through beliefs rather than arrived at from direct experience. Try not to exercise prejudice, okay?
