‘Feeding the Doves’ By George Dunlop Leslie {{PD}}

The Dark of the Moon leading up to the New Moon in Sagittarius will be gently fraught with energies that may make us feel a little anxious or aggressive, but that channeled successfully will actually lead to profit, originality, and successfully bringing forward lessons learned in the past and applying them to construct the future (Venus sxt Zeus and semi-sq Mars, Mercury sxt SN/ trine NN, Sun trine Uranus-Pallas) Relationships support ambitions, even if we may find it a tad hard to get others to take action in the way we envision, and despite Merc’s retro status, we see what’s smart, what’s practical, and what is uniquely suited to the current situation. All this is available if we take a cool, intellectual or innovative approach to matters (Juno enters Aquarius), and if we take the Merc retro precaution of being fully aware that there are facets of our decisions and information of which we don’t yet have knowledge.

By the 17th we’ll have found the ‘right’ creative channels and our own most profitable and authoritative role, and our actions and choices are likely fortuitous, despite being a wee bit haunted by doubts or the fear that we’re missing some vital clue. We end up finding that priorities and values are challenged to prove their relevance and veracity; as long as we’re clear on our ideals, we’ll have a solid ability to assess the direction in which our actions and choices are taking us.

Hint: The key to dealing with Mercury retrograde this time around may be in compartmentalizing ‘thought areas’, tackling them in narrow, one-at-a-time fashion that doesn’t demand we mentally process everything at once, just one small specific matter before us–and of course, use our feeling nature, as much or more than we use our minds, to suss out the landscape.

Word image for the weekend is: a dove, caught in a chimney. The global symbol of peace enters a conduit intended to release smoke and toxic gasses and then can’t find its way out. Sounds like the experience of the current Collective spirit! On a personal level, this suggests that our sense of cooperation, our willingness to live in harmony with others, our inner intentionality of causing no harm has taken a wrong turn, and is in danger of being extinguished. We can put it another way: our feelings of hope may be floundering, slowly poisoned by a loss of freedom, autonomy, and a chokingly toxic atmosphere. All is not lost; it will take careful, gentle, persistent efforts, but our sense of hope can be returned to its natural, free state–so don’t give up on those things that ‘keep hope alive’.

Or, is there a scenario in play right now where you feel someone is ‘shoving peace down your throat’, demanding a passive, play-nice interaction, despite your actual feelings. If so, time, with great care, to extricate yourself from constraints and express how you feel.

See the New Moon of the 17th here–and have a wonderful weekend!

17 December 2017 New Moon in Sagittarius: Sculpting Reality

‘Portrait of Anna Vaughan Hyatt’ 1915 By Marion Boyd Allen {{PD}}

The New Moon falls at 26 Sagittarius 31 at 10:30 PM Pacific time of the 17th, and it sits between a figurative rock and hard place, cradled by Saturn, the rock which is about to vacate Sag for the comfort of home turf Capricorn, and on the other side by ‘hard place’ Venus, over which the Moon has just ‘swept’. As the Moon and Sun are moving swiftly away from one body and the other will ‘fall away’ into a new sign (even as the Sun-Moon themselves soon enter that sign, the Sun set to meet Saturn there), the scenario suggests that the New Moon brings facts, beliefs, knowledge, or other outreach into the reality picture–it’s apparent what the situation truly is, and what it may cost or reward us with factors in–or, we already know the costs or rewards going in, and now find out the impact in real-world terms. That means that new starts come with a balance sheet, and the awareness that we must do something (Fire placement) in reaction to what we learn. Restraint and aesthetics and/ or relationships also factor in, and our eye remains on ‘the prize’ (possibly causing us to fix our gaze on the rear view mirror, rather than the road ahead), even if our goal doesn’t seem related to New Moon events.

The New Moon also squares Chiron, trines Pallas-Uranus, and quincunxes Sedna, suggesting some pain or triggering of old issues springs from NM events, or that the difficult circumstances presented require use of the Chirotic skills (those represented by the natal situation of your Chiron). What occurs is smart, at least in the sense that what happens is the most practical turn of events for the individual, with the potential for the wise move to be spurred by the group or by a ‘fresh’ understanding, provided by the New Moon. Expect some ‘sudden wisdom’, the revelation of which may provide the answer to (or reason for) the pain, and know that what occurs will require either a re-calibration of the instincts, or allow for a glimpse into one or more ‘blind spots’ from which we suffer.

The Sabian symbol for the New Moon is, ‘A Sculptor At His Work’. Aha! There’s that Saturn effect, applying knowledge and/ or working with reality in a talented way (and very possibly a Chirotic one, that is skilled or healing). We shape things as we want them to be, in part unconsciously, via the mechanism of our own instincts and values. Notice that it all funnels into a response to reality, one that may leave us better off than it found us, but that’s totally dependent on how firmly we accept that we are responsible, we are the creators.

By Paul René Reinicke – Own work by User:ReneReinicke, 2010-09-24, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=18163667

It’s all upbeat today–unless we fall prey to the single negative, which, if we do, effectively wipes out all that good mojo! First the many, many positives. We act and choose with an awareness of those matters too long neglected or denied, and we are rewarded for that, on a personal level and through our status and reach on the social scene. Thoughts, though couched in the vaguely unsound terms of the retrograde period, are loving, beneficial, optimistic–and that works its own kind of magic, attracting reward, positive attention, and enhancing our standing and authority–all good, right? The facts work in our favor, opportunities offer a fast lane to accomplishment, and belief systems are out in the open and so easy to understand and work with. That down side? It’s within us, within our potential to be victims of our own wounds. If we allow a sense of injury to dominate our thinking and our interactions, we lose. It’s that simple (Mars sxt Black Moon Lilith, Mercury conjoined Venus and both trine Ceres, Sun nov Jupiter and sq Chiron).

Today’s word image is: a man works near an open, live wire. Is there something in your environment that you’ve been ‘working around’, assuming (or hoping) it won’t hurt you? Or is this someone, a ‘live wire’ who could sweep you up in their hi-jinks, or simply in their enthusiasm–and would you want that to happen? Would it be joyful or a distraction? This is a call to inspect the environment, for what it could mean, should you bump up against that ‘energy conduit’, and to remind you that your safety isn’t guaranteed, no matter how familiar the atmosphere.

Beware of those free downloads purporting to offer my work that are really malware, and of that psychic who claims to have studied with me (I do not endorse her), and if you’re looking for a little AstroEssence on Saturn entering Capricorn, it’s here–thanks, and have a great day!

Love, relationships, and rewards pave the way toward the future (Venus trine NN)–but how? Today we find real-world manifestations of positives we’ve created that flow from the past to the present (Venus parallel Saturn and sxt SN); in other words, we are reaping the results of Love given out, in the form of Love received, of money, or of advantage in some way beneficial to us. Look around–results may not fit your immediate idea of ‘reward’, but may be more subtle, or more along the lines of gratitude you may feel for where you are right now, and if you feel a deficit of some kind, consider passing a little of that Love to someone else, to show both yourself and the Universe that you aren’t really without, after all.

Retrograde Mercury has been, and continues to be, inordinately busy, contacting once again energies for the most part just recently aspected. This time its a novile to Juno and a semi-square to Mars. This may make for restless, somewhat aggressive thoughts, but out of the turbulence comes clever approaches to power that are very effective at delivering to you ways that allow personal abilities and efforts to impact areas of concern. Just don’t demand instant clarity when ideas are formulating–instead sit back, and let them emerge from the tussle on their own.

‘Cordobesas’ 1922 By Julio Romero de Torres {{PD}}

Today’s word image is: a small pitcher of fresh cream sits on the morning table. I grew up in a world of powdered creamers, so to me this is a minor luxury, and I appreciate it even though I take my coffee black. This image suggests we’ll enjoy the ‘cream’, the best of something. Be aware of those small, wonderful facets of your world today–you’ll get a lot more delight out of them than usual.

Again, I’d like to warn you off ‘free downloads’ of my books–they seem to be proliferating, and are almost certainly opportunities to acquire malware. There’s also a psychic claiming to have studied with me, among many others, but I don’t recognize the name (though it’s possible we had contact under another name) and I’ve found no record of any interaction between us–so if you’re ever shopping for a psychic, I do not endorse her, just so you know. Correction: apparently we are connected on LinkedIn, a site I pay very little attention to and through which I’m connected to many people I don’t actually know.

Have a great day!

‘La Malade (The Patient): Hélène Chatenay’ 1892 Félix Vallotton {{PD}}

We’re thinking about all facets of our health, even if the topic seems to be otherwise; everything is being measured against what it does for or to us, and how good that is for us overall. The dangers are that this may become only an intellectual exercise, with needs seen but then not acted upon, and anywhere real world circumstances cause friction with the ideal, the needs of the current reality may prevail–which is not so good. Generally speaking, if you can conceive of how to ‘do it better’, then implement that idea–it’s your best course of action today, and just coincidentally, may advance ambitions (Hygeia enters Aquarius, Saturn semi-sq Vesta, Mercury nov Hygeia and sxt Zeus).

Dessin de valise By David Ring CC0

Today’s word image is: packing up in order to vacate a house. Since we’re talking astrology here, I of course think of the astrological Houses–and if you use the Whole Sign system as I do, that suggests we focus on a body about to change signs–so this could apply to Hygeia, which changes signs today, Juno, which moves into Aquarius on the 16th, or Saturn into Capricorn, on the 19th. Maybe this suggests an overall shift to an intellectual approach to coping, to one of understanding that may be for our own health, and/ or to a stronger orientation to making over reality into what we really want it to be, rather than seeing our ideals as ‘over there’ and the real world as ‘over here’. Integration of ideals, then, might be the order of the day, along with resolving to drive events in a desirable direction, rather than seeing ourselves as victims of circumstance.

Just a Little AstroEssence 11 December 2017 Mind Power

10 Sunday Dec 2017

By Pierre-Auguste Renoir – Renoir, peintre du bonheur : 1841-1919, de Gilles Néret, Köln, Taschen, 2001, p. 332. ISBN 9783822857410, {{PD}} https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=14861163

Think it, and you can make the change you value happen; that’s today’s recipe, and luckily for us, our thinking and communications are aligned, without any special effort on our part, with our highest values, with due respect for our relationships and financial needs, and in perfect harmony with our ambitions and desires–though this is all based on our true feelings and attitudes, so may not reflect those we declare as our own. It’s a Willy Wonka Golden Ticket, without all the scary factory stuff or the menacing Oompa-Loompas. I know, I know, the irony of having this kind of power during a retrograde is extraordinary, but I suspect this is a mechanism to protect us from ourselves: make the strength and impact potential of this kind of energy fully conscious and fully controlled by a non-retrograde mentality, and it could be a prescription for overdoing, even annihilating, what we only mean to improve, a Pandora’s box of our own making. So, be glad that at least some of the possible implications of what we do will not be obvious to us–the knowing might only hold us back, or maybe just keep us up at night after the fact; one thing we need to accept is that sometimes our not knowing precisely what we set in motion is the only way to get us from point A to B. Brace yourself for the transformation that you will facilitate; look for inspiration or aid on the social scene, from learning and so working with ‘the facts’, and/ or by seeing right before your eyes how beliefs drive results. Navigate these influences wisely, my friends, and don’t allow doubt concerning your own worth or the worth of your goals to waylay you. (Venus semi-sq Juno, Mercury nov Vesta and Jupiter and parallel Pluto and Venus, Sun sxt Zeus)

Today’s word image is a giant monster crab roils an Italian bay. I need to explain: this was part of a dream last night (and boy, hasn’t the dream world been rife with odd symbols and unusual scenes?) This particular part of the dream pointed me toward next July, when the Sun moves through Cancer–interestingly enough, also reminding us that that’s where the Earth is, right now. So, something with origins this month may lead to some monster-size outcome in late June-July. July 9th, for example, shows heavies Saturn, Earth, Pluto, and Black Moon Lilith in Capricorn, facing only the Sun and Pallas in Cancer, just as we enter Dark of the Moon territory and deal with Venus in Leo at 29 highly stressed degrees, and with Merc on the way to forming apex to a Finger of God with Earth and Neptune as the base (and as a perfect combination of Earth and Sea), with this formula suggesting the material world is either ideal, deluding us, or we’re manifesting the creative, and it results in thinking/ reasoning/ a ‘message’ (Mercury in Leo) that is purely and completely who we are. Just something to keep our eye on, and watch for timing and synchronicities concerning.

Your Weekend 9-10 December 2017 The Truth of Things

‘The Great Red Dragon and the Woman Clothed in the Sun’ c1807 William Blake {{PD}}

While all our attention is on Mars entering Scorpio on the 9th, we may find things take on a Plutonian tone, and we’d be forgiven for thinking this shift is why–but it’s not. Mars moving into Scorpio is a bit like this, debuting as a kind of Willfulness uncaring of waste or destruction, acting to make a point, to dig down, or even to get revenge–but what occurs, whether actions and choices bring results arrived at accidentally or deliberately, is that the Truth of things is revealed. Not a bad result at all for a transit that may feel very bull-in-a-china-shop–and of course, as Mars continues through the sign, it aspects individual factors in the natal chart, tailoring the experience to each of us uniquely.

On the 9th that Plutonian feeling is much more likely attributable to another set of contacts, and these promise truths arise out of unwise or impractical financial matters or relationship interactions (Venus parallel Pluto and sesq Pallas). The darker corners of our personal intimacies are lit up, and we may have the opportunity to see, and change, those less-than-smart facets of relationships or in our approach to money, earning, or asset management. We may even want to ‘go to war’ over Venusian life areas, but we need to know that urge would be prompted by our own darkness as it seeks an external target–so a crusade is definitely not a good idea at this time–and in its milder form brings to mind the old saying about how when you point at someone, four of your fingers are actually pointing back at you.

What’s most central to things, though, is the state of retrograde Mercury: parallel both Saturn and the Sun, trine Pallas, and quincunx Sedna. The mind, though not functioning as it normally does, is attuned to the reality picture and aware of what’s wise, smart, or practical–temporarily it’s only instincts and a more active mental stance that are on the fritz. That means that if we take in what is in a kind of passive mode, not reacting or insisting on taking action, we can enjoy a relatively crisp, objective, and accurate glimpse at the current picture. These ‘bright spots’ in the midst of Merc retros are always a welcome departure, and should be appreciated for the wealth of info they can make available–all we must do is be completely receptive, and our ‘Power Position’ or the positives of negotiation will be apparent (Sun trine Ceres).

‘Couple, Kids and Confusion’ By Shafiahmedrizvi 2011 CC BY-SA 4.0

By the 10th we may have learned something that confuses, alters, or otherwise makes unclear that relationship or asset picture (Venus square Neptune), or that inspires us through the difficulty it presents. We know what’s healthy–it’s obvious (Sun nov Hygeia) and the mind is quick and clever, in spite of its current direction (Mercury trine Uranus), but there is one caution: unprocessed or unresolved wounds may exert their influence on our thinking. Just sayin’.

{{PD}}

The weekend’s word image is this: after a conversation with someone, you have a dream that provides information you must pass on to the individual. For me this took the form of a discussion with someone about their frazzled, tired state and their back pain. In the dream I saw this person gazing into one of those convex mirrors you see on the street that allow drivers to see traffic coming from a blind corner; in this case, the mirror was on a drive-thru lane of a Starbucks! Then I was shown a chair that had a hard, upper back piece that would tilt a bit when leaned against, and my thought in the dream was, ‘Those are never comfortable–they don’t fit the back correctly, so you can’t even use them as a backrest.’ My interpretation? She’s ‘driving’ herself too hard, taking in too much caffeine in order to keep the energy level high, and the back pain is being exacerbated by either a literal ‘bad chair’, or is symbolic, springing from a sense that she lacks adequate support.

Have a great weekend! Read, donate, comment, or leave me a review at Goodreads–all are appreciated!

‘Angels at Mamre (Holy Trinity)’ by Andrei Rublev 1420 {{PD}}

The two most prominent aspects are difficult for two entirely different reasons: with Neptune trine Vesta it’s about how easily we are confused about the nature of our own highest values (they are affected by hidden or destructive issues, shown by Vesta in Scorpio), and how Venus sesquiquadrate Uranus may see relationships or financial arrangements, especially those we ‘have faith in’ or rely on for ‘the facts’ (Venus in Sag), reacting to us or surprising us with unanticipated events or Willfulness on the part of others or ‘the group’ (Uranus in Aries), even as we (eventually) realize that what occurs is actually positive (Venus novile Mars). In the midst of such tumultuous and disorienting energies it could be hard to see how this will all, and I mean all, be to our benefit, but if we let the noise fall away what we find is that we are being directed to put our attention and efforts into empowering ourselves (maybe asking for cooperation, but not bothering with permission), exercising our prerogatives (using what we have to best effect), and consciously building what we want in our future, in part by bringing forward what’s good from the past (Sun novile Juno and trine the North Node). Focus on this and you’ll go farther than you expect. Encapsulating today’s energy, this quote: “Though passion may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic chords of memory will swell when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature.” Abraham Lincoln

Today’s word image is a wildfire burns on the coldest day of the year. Who says fire and ice can’t coexist? Look for the life area where something is burning hot and out-of-control, and consider that just because whatever it contacts is indifferent doesn’t mean that fire (anger) won’t cause damage.

Just a Little AstroEssence 7 December 2017 Wedded to Reform

I want to say our hearts are in the right place, with actions guided by our highest values, but it’s more like our spirits are in the right place, as our hearts may be wedded to transformation in the positive, to reform, or may carry a bit of larceny or destruction in their warm and willing cockles (Mars parallel Vesta, Venus novile Pluto). We do, we choose, and we act in accord with those things we honor, and perhaps this happens because we are open to change to our loves and loyalties; being willing to walk away, to sacrifice, means that we are perpetually choosing to do things for affirming reasons, not out of obligation or a sense of being trapped–and a life rooted in the joy of choosing to is much more rewarding than a life of obligation.

Thinking, already riding through the retrograde fog, takes a turn away from believing in our own sense of personal authority, leaving us unsure, particularly in awareness of our own rights–somehow the social sphere jars our surety in ourselves, making us wonder if ‘their’ way is superior. Hint: it’s not. (Mercury contra-parallel Ceres and semi-square Jupiter). It’s a day to feel our way forward, to trust instincts, and to bank on our own good intents.

Awareness works better than a sword for the ghosts we’re talking about. Photo from “Hours with the Ghosts or, Nineteenth Century Witchcraft” by Henry Ridgely Evans, 1891 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a distinct ‘form’, spotted repeatedly out of the corner of one’s vision, that is not, in any Saturnian sense, ‘there’. Is someone ‘haunting’ you, appearing just out of direct perception? Is this a Being from another dimension, a ghost of relationships past (or maybe even future), or someone operating on this plane in the Now and doing things that affect you but remaining out of your sight/ consciousness? The message may be simple: widen your attention, and be open to learning about what you don’t see–sometimes it’s hard to accept that something can be without our witnessing it–time to get more sophisticated in our perceptions. I know, Merc retro, yada yada, but this is a launch point, to introduce the concept–don’t expect immediate results, even though that’s certainly a possibility.

Have a great day!

Our empowerment is found in following instincts, and at least somewhat in allowing ourselves to let the idea that we ‘know but don’t know’ dominate. What we do is highly effective, but whether we get the results we want or not is dependent on our own thoughts and perceptions: we get to see ‘where our head’s at’, with thoughts and ideas often literally appearing in solid form or creating the circumstances before us. It seems like magic, but it’s really just that we’re temporarily immersed in a hyper-concrete vein of Universal energy; stay positive, flow with it, and I guarantee that at some point today you’ll get direct proof of how important an optimistic and fearless attitude can be.

Today’s word image is: on the grounds of a lion tamer’s compound, a lion roams free. This image comes from a memory from my childhood (I may have told this before, and if so, apologies). We lived in a rural part of California, and down the road lived an actual, honest-to-god lion tamer and his wife. My parents were friends with them, and one day when I was 5 my mother took me to visit. As we drove up to the house, my mother turned to me and said, ‘Now watch out, because there’s an old lion that’s loose. Don’t think it’s tame, it will hurt you”–and then we got out of the car. I think that walk between the car and the house was the longest walk I’ve ever taken. Is there someone communicating things that are scaring the bejeezus (spell correct offered ‘bejewels’!) out of you? And if so, have you asked yourself what kind of person would want to scare another person so badly?

From today’s vantage point, just the idea that we can or should ‘tame’ a wild animal, caging them and using whips to force certain behaviors, makes those who see that as our prerogative barbarians. And in case you’re wondering, a few years later the lion tamer was killed, in the ring during a performance, by his own animals.
