The women were like beings made of moon milk, and their skin shimmered with little silver dots like those of the salmon in springtime, and the women’s feet and hands were long and graceful.

Clarissa Pinkola Estes Phd,  WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES

The Full Moon for September occurs at 2:17 AM PDT on the 23rd at 00 Aries 15–the Aries Point! In the most straightforward terms, the Aries Point is the slice of space/ time where spirit enters matter, the collision point of  all that is real and unseen with discernible material form. So, a big deal, as for the individual, this point in the flat chart of the natal horoscope designates the point at which the individual meshed the spirit and the physical as we know it; it’s the place where the Soul entered active engagement with the present lifetime. What does this mean for us when the transiting Full Moon coincides with what we might see as a doorway between spirit and material?

The occurrence of the Full Moon at the Aries Point may open a doorway to our origins, to the most fundamental expression of who we are, at that moment when we both took material form (birth) and still retained full consciousness of the Soul essence. The Sabian symbol for 0-1 Aries is: ‘A Woman Just Risen From the Sea; a Seal is Embracing Her’ This image brings to mind the Archetypal story of the Seal Woman who mates with a human male, has a child, and slowly loses her health–all because as she celebrated herself, a hunter saw, and took the sealskin she wore as her ‘true’ identity. The story is given form in ‘Sealskin, Soulskin,’ in Estes’ marvelous ‘Women Who Run With the Wolves.’ She divides the story (which is told in many cultures in many forms) into parts that I know  I can’t improve on, so we’ll look at each part and how it might relate to the Full Moon experience.

Since this is a Full Moon, we know we’re speaking of culmination, the rounding out of some part of our own story. First, there is a kind of initiation that comes through a loss, in one form or another, of the Soul. I think this can be equated to birth, represented by the Aries Point as the doorway; we can’t help but become disoriented, losing a bit of ourselves in the process. Then one ‘loses one’s pelt’ in earnest–we are trying to enjoy our new human form, but in celebrating this we set aside the Soul connectors we still retain, in order to fit in to the earthly realm. We substitute the values of the culture and our tribe, and though these are not completely alien, they do represent the values of consensus, and that means we lose our awareness of those things that make us unique; this loss is represented by ‘poor’ choice (and by that I mean the kind of choices we inevitably make in an attempt to regain that part of ourselves we sense we’ve forgotten) and the way we are lured by the things we think will provide our lack. So we are, like the Seal Woman, left naked and shivering as we search for our eternal Beingness.

Next there is communion with the hunter, the individual who has ‘taken’ our skin–of course, we don’t know that we are facing the thief. This is represented by any animus oriented energy to which we succumb: our own interior animus, our ego, or an external animus: a man, ambition, society’s definition of ‘making it.’ Note that though this story is told as a woman’s loss, this tragedy happens to men, as well; they lose their unique ‘Soul skin’ in an attempt to be the kind of man society (and perhaps the partner) demands, rather than the kind of man they are naturally. The ego and its particular form of vanity promises to fulfill us, to return to us that missing Soul piece, if we will only do its bidding–but this is just not true–it cannot return what it does not possess.

The woman, the entire time she has spent on dry land, has been hearing the call of the sea (her true environment) and has been conscious of her vibrational connection with her child, her spiritual ‘home,’ in a sense. This spirit child in the story is the child of the Seal Woman and the hunter who captured her by stealing her skin. This is representative of the pure, inner connection we retain to the Soul (it can be ‘the inner child,’ though I think it’s something much purer, the experience of the Soul rather than just the seed-manifestation of it), and it’s this element in the story that, agitated by its mother’s distress, stumbles out into the night and trips on the mother’s wrapped up Seal skin, finding and delivering back to the woman her true identity.

So, in all this we are seeing an Archetypal journey in miniature; the Full Moon presents us with the ability to re-acquaint ourselves with that moment when as Soul we slipped into flesh–and this is a vital point, as it is the one time in the incarnation experience (other than the moment of death) in which we can be fully aware of the enormity of who we are, and can re-connect so directly with it.

Using our strict orb, we see that the Sun/ Moon/ Earth makes only one aspect, a T-square with Pluto in Capricorn. Ah ha! Besides being able to glimpse in its purest form the Soul and its intentions on incarnating (in the Sabian, this is the seal embracing the woman, a return to the natural sensibilities), this Full Moon also offers the power (Pluto) to transform (Pluto) our own manifestation in the material (Capricorn). Since the inner is the outer, and the outer the inner, this means we can change anything on any level, with corresponding changes visible (or felt or realized) in the opposite venue.

In ECLIPSE I called this Full Moon “the true birth point of fated Cardinal action,” and outline the other influences in effect at the moment of Full Moon fulfillment that will act on our transformational choices. If you’re planning on getting this issue and you just haven’t yet, now’s the time http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-summer-2010-eclipse/  The life long journey to empowerment is closely related to  the mini-empowerment we will be instituting with this Full Moon; see more on that here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com  in my new book on Juno. Thank you!

And have a wonderful Full Moon transformational experience!

Well, you’ve all let me go on about the Dark of the Moon, so polite not to interrupt and say, ‘Hey, crazy, we’re approaching a FULL MOON, there is no Dark period!’ I apologize (and cringe with embarrassment) at my goof, but stand by the feeling this period is creating–it feels like that empty, quiet point before a New Moon–so what gives?

Honestly, I can pinpoint about a dozen things that suggest to me a nebulous, distorting, or camouflaging effect, including: the exact Earth, Jupiter, Uranus conjunction in Pisces, Neptune sextile Ceres (obscuring Mother Nature) and opposed Juno (mastery of the facts, i.e. empowerment, slips through our fingers), Sedna sesquiquadrate Saturn (reality is nowhere to be found!)–need I go on? A plethora of energies are tuned to static–and I, foolish astrologer, read the ether, rather than the aspects, and reported incorrectly.

So, I hope we can put this sorry episode behind us–I appreciate that you were all so discreet, not pointing out that the Empress is naked–now what can we expect? I think a whole lot of the same, through to the Full Moon in the wee hours Pacific of the 23rd; we’re dealing with a lot of tension (see ECLIPSE) with no outlet, at least not until the opposition of Sun and Moon, releasing an amazing amount of energy connected to both the Aries Point and Pluto.

Next up, my FULL MOON  report–which looks nothing like a NEW MOON–really.

20 September 2010: Awash in the Zeitgeist

So just after I complained about short Voids not allowing us a little recuperation time, along comes this Void and gives us a stretch free of Lunar feedback (and this may invite a few brains to run hot–it’s in Aquarius–a few tempers to over heat and a wee touch of rebellion to foment–that lasts through 1:15 PM Pacific time; that’s when the Moon enters softly persuasive Pisces–persuasive as we may just want to lie back and dream, with the first aspect not forming until 5:30 PM PDT. At that point the Moon sextiles Pluto, and we may be able to purge emotionally; there’s a possibility that during the after-Pisces-entry hours we could be a bit too receptive to the Collective schmutz and may find ourselves angst-y over things we grab out of the air, rather than anything in our own lives. This all takes place during Dark of the Moon (which began 2 AM-ish Pacific today), so that there’s an even further remove, a feeling of disconnection blanketing it all that serves to make everything a lot more nebulous, and everyone a lot more spacey, in their own way (that just takes away barriers to the personality, amplifying each of us–you get MORE of what you are!)

By 9 PM PDT the Moon trines Mars, both in Water; we can expect a feeling that’s like swimming: we’re making effort but it’s not the usual, we’re soothed yet anxiety can come on in an instant, we’re bouyed yet enveloped. Emotionally we’re working up to the conjunction of the Moon with Jupiter/ Uranus late evening Pacific of the 22nd and early morning of the 23rd which precedes the Cardinal Point Full Moon. Stress levels may be high and difficult to get a handle on, starting with this trine to Mars and building toward the Full Moon.

1 AM PDT of the 21st the Moon quincunxes Saturn–use this grounding moment (which will come through some small dissonance in consciousness)  to orient yourself and take a read on the situation. At this time we need all the grounding influences we can get.

5 AM of the 21st the Moon makes a Water Grand Trine with Venus and the South Node, and we get steeped in nostalgia (literally, the pain of the past) and awash with all our deepest longings and yearnings emotionally and for connection. The Soul is gently turned inside-out with emotion. Understand that, though likely involving some degree of pain, regret, and heartache, this is a very good thing to experience, because it lets us know what we believe would make us complete-and that’s typically not at all what we truly need or want for satisfaction in our lives. It’s a period of sentimentality that can have a purpose that’s quite useful at giving some perspective to things.

The Moon steadily moves toward opposition with Mercury, perfecting in the 11 AM hour PDT. We may feel this building, as the Dark period otherwise tones down most other, immediate influences, making some really pop. This could be a point of revelation, or a mini comedy of errors, as communication can be confusing, even messy, and of course, there’s the potential for confrontation.

Relaxing and envisioning might be my recommendations for this period–along with buying the NEW ‘Juno in the Natal Chart’ http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com or getting the Summer issue of ECLIPSE, which carries a large entry on this upcoming Full Moon, the Venus retro and how to handle it, articles, and the October forecast http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-summer-2010-eclipse/

And! New at ‘Been There, Done That’ just posted ‘Your Relationship Power Balance’ http://askjulie.wordpress.com/2010/09/20/your-relationship-power-balance/

And have a great one!

19 September 2010: Reverence and Desire

The evening of the 18th PDT, we get what we want in relationship by reasoning, taking the high road, by being innovative, original, or just plain persuasive (Aquarius Moon trine Zeus in Libra), though make sure that you use this silver-tongued (or maybe that’s ‘aura-ed’) interval on something deeply desired–throwing away the mojo on the frivolous or silly would be fun, but ultimately regrettable, as it won’t take long before we realize there were better places to put our energy.

Sunday, though, is truly a day of worship; the Moon doesn’t aspect anything else until it comes within orb of a trine to Vesta around 3:30 PM PDT. This suggests that the period is one where we should dedicate ourselves to our highest purpose and values. This may include attention to the home environment and our closest relationships, with reverence for and attention to Vesta energies called for. Look, too, to the natal location and sign of Vesta for clues as to specific life areas or venues where this energy is best focused. Can be a day full of expressions of love and peace, if we go with the flow.

By 11:30 PM Pacific we’ll be past the Moon’s square to Sedna (a brief blind spot, mentally speaking, with an Aquarius Moon) and on to a square to Pallas and an opposition to Juno; we may be asking ourselves, is it smart to be defiant? Will we lose power if we lay claim to our rights, our emotional territory? Is anger or hurt a viable response to something that may not have been an injury in the first place? Some or all to be considered, as we need to be sure of the mental stance we want to take as the Moon moves on.

A sextile to Ceres about 3 AM of the 20th suggest the emotional payoff to our power decisions comes through. A conjunction to Neptune begins about 4:30 AM PDT on the 20th, bringing confusion and uncertainty, and perhaps vulnerability to illusion or deception; good thing we did that sorting out earlier 🙂 6 AM PDT sees the Moon quincunx the Sun, and by 7 the Moon is conjunct Chiron, opening a window that allows a breeze of emotional dissonance in–and that’s followed by a reaction–we either leap from the window into a pool of Chirotic woundedness (dramatic, no?) or we use our brains (Aquarius’ demand, again) and find out what’s needed to heal ourselves.

The Void begins at 7:22 AM PDT. If you’re looking for a moment to take a chance on something you don’t hold out much hope for, this would be the time–the Void can deliver surprises, without causing a whole lot of harm if we fail.

Well, it’s done! JUNO IN THE NATAL CHART is ready for you! http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com  Many thanks to all who’ve been so encouraging–it meant a lot to me to know that there are people out there who might actually want to read it!

And so, have a great weekend!

18 September 2010: The End of the World

So, I dreamed of the end of the world last night (let’s just say it was very stressful–fire and ice–and I think the trine between Juno and Ceres in Fire may hold a clue, power, authority, and means of empowerment dancing in my head!) and now it’s almost midnight and I just don’t want to go back to sleep. Ever. Of course that’s an exaggeration; I’m plenty tired, as I finished the final read-through editing for ‘Juno in the Natal Chart.’ I don’t kid myself–I know there are typos and glitches hidden in those pages, but I don’t think I can run my eyes over them even one more time. Now there’s some set-up of the manuscript to do, and then the book will be available, less than 24 hours from now. You can get a peek at the front page art here (scroll down past the wee animals and the hippos and scenery and such)  http://www.cafepress.com/potamusgoods And yes, this is nepotism at its finest; the artist is my younger daughter, Sam.

What jumps out at me when looking at transits for the 18th is something that reinforces the cautions given in ECLIPSE, but that has its own kind of resonance: Ceres is the arm of a T-square formed with the transiting Sun/ Earth axis=power issues, and particularly personal power, the kind that allows us to shape the course of everything within our reach, will be the centerpiece of the experience–a power trip, of sorts, when it falls into place, and tomorrow may be a day when we are faced with the limits of our power, especially the limits that are for our own good–and by that I mean, those kind of things that stop us in our tracks and later we look back and say, ‘Oh, that was really good that I couldn’t do ‘x,’ I can see why it was so much better for me.’  We’ll likely see limits that push us toward expressions of power that will very much be in line with our path (and if you’re on the right track, it may simply be a day of reassessment and adjustment, a reality check that could show surprising results and opportunities for progress). Ceres inherently carries the possibility of overstepping our boundaries, and this can show specifically in any area we are nurturing–the maternal bent can be too sure of itself, too prone to feel ‘Mother Knows Best.’ Just a caution that will keep some perspective on things.

With the Moon entering Aquarius at 12:35 AM PDT, we see a Lunar influence that wants to meet everything through the cool intellect–and for those who like to feel their way through life, this may be a little splash of cold water–it could seem like a mini-end of the world, as these individuals struggle (even resist mightily) the way circumstances require a high-end mental approach. Just as the mind needs the senses and the feelings, we must acknowledge that the intuition and feelings need the mind, too–sometimes it’s way easier to read the instructions than it is to ‘intuit’ what’s needed!

Now it’s off to bed. I’ve got to remember that, like the song says, it may just be the end of the world as we know it–since things are still spinnin’ I’ll assume it’s an end to a personal viewpoint, a tiny saga of mine, making way in my life for new beginnings 🙂

15 September 2010: It’s All Changing

Tags

Mars, of course, is raw at 00 Scorpio, but honestly, I didn’t anticipate how much energy would’ve built to this point when I did the forecast (so since I don’t always get it perfect, maybe you shouldn’t buy ECLIPSE!  http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-summer-2010-eclipse/ Though it does have pretty pictures, and articles on Pluto, the 6th, and more! And I’d still want the Venus retro material and the lowdown on the upcoming Cardinal Point Moon!) Today seems to be a watershed for this build-up, but it’s only a plateau–we see tension, force, and deliberateness (for this seems the most fitting word) in what’s accrued, but this is just the beginning of the change.

For most of us, it’s one form of turmoil or another–so I have to blame it all on the Cardinal Cross energies, and the still-barely-not-quite-in-place T– and the entry of the Moon to Capricorn later today, and its meeting with Pluto. I think the Lunar energy has done a version of its old school horary skill, Translation and Collection of Light, grabbing the blast of Uranus/ Jupiter as it squares them (they’re subdued now, and yet maybe more dangerous, poised as they are ‘below the surface’ in Pisces–yes, I’m talking about that Laurel and Hardy of the sky–is anyone as old as I, with a memory of those two comedians?–Jupiter a rotund Hardy, feeling like the brains of the outfit, bossing the actually brighter Laurel, who’s having a high-strung Uranian breakdown when his idea doesn’t prevail–and isn’t that when things snap, when one rebels or strikes quick as lightning, when the energy is frustrated and, I’m thinking, betrayed–because that’s what I’m seeing all around me, individuals who have been done wrong, it’s coming to light, and now we’re hearing the gentle ‘click’ of the chamber enclosing the bullet–they are getting ready to address the situation).

The thing for all of us to know is: this is not the end, we are not at ‘the result,’ we are mid-way in the process. What we are seeing now is what’s been growing and accumulating for some time–the negatives swirl and gather the flotsam of random hate and anger and jealousy and present their gift (and I mean that in the German sense, as the word means ‘poison’ in Deutschland!) to the too-trusting, the unsuspecting, those who have looked away from the nastiness, feeling there was nothing they could do.

There is a group out there who will ride through this relatively undisturbed; these are the individuals who’ve been willing to confront the bad guy all along–that willingness acts as a protective shield, because if there’s one thing we know about nasty people, about evil, is that the last thing they want is a confrontation, to be called out, because, really, when good musters itself, truly comes to the showdown in all its brilliant, deafening glory, it kicks bad’s ass so easily–remember that next time the choice is presented to you.

13-14 September 2010: New Perspectives

Tags

,

The Sag Moon is its unadulterated, Sadge-y self (and that means expansive, curious, pushing out toward new things, experiences, and people–though it does sit from 10 AM PDT to 12:30 PM or so at the midpoint of Pluto/ Venus, offering a stark, fleeting, and radical emotional picture of the ways change may alter love, money, or assets) until late in the 2 PM hour PDT when it sextiles Saturn and squares Mercury. This may make us too quick to cement awkward conditions or agree to what’s communicated, probably at least in part out of relief that the retro’s over!

9:30 PM-ish the Sag Moon quincunxes the South Node, bringing a fit of nostalgia, regret, or, for some, emotional or intuitive knowledge of something in the past that had not been clear until now–a revelation that allows some pieces that didn’t fit before to fall into place.

Tight groupings of energies mean that the Moon passes through considerable spans without contact–and a Sagittarius Moon, fresh off a Merc Direction, means we seek knowledge and reach out in search of new perspectives–there’s a thirst for what’s new, and the danger is we are too quick to accept ‘new’ information, ‘new’ knowledge, and to change views or act on it without sufficient vetting. We have a long period of this through about 8 PM PDT on the 14th, when the Moon forms a T-square with the Sun/ Earth axis–tension, assumptions gone wrong, new revelations, and emotional confrontation (internal or external) are the result.

The Moon conjuncts Ceres at 3:30 AM PDT on the 15th, and we get a solid glimpse of our own power in the broadest sense–we see how and in what ways we can reach out or share knowledge or assets at our most natural–and caring for/ nurturing others will be on the agenda for some, with a test of authority or boundaries for others.

It’s a couple of days of, in some ways, testing the limits, but these are mostly the limits we’ve been placing on our own perspectives; with the directions of Merc and Pluto we may feel an opening up–cautions are found here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-summer-2010-eclipse/ along with info on Venus Retrograde, the upcoming Aries Point Full Moon, the creative complex, and so much more!

12 September 2010: Feeling Our Way Through the Dark

Tags

, ,

A Scorpio Moon makes us all a little restless; it’s something hidden moving through dark water, a cold drift in a warm breeze, a presence in an empty room, the feeling that, even under the bright lights of a happy gathering, everyone has secrets. It’s not that there are suddenly things that are hidden from us, but that with the Scorpio Lunar influence we become more aware of what isn’t obvious–and when that happens it seems our world is full of stressful and distressing things, unless we respond by being willing to seek truth, reveal what’s hidden, change or destroy what needs reforming. With Pluto going direct on Monday, and Mercury going direct tomorrow, the 12th, we may find a great many things revealed, coming to the surface, or being exposed, whether we like it or not. Try to make the energy work for you by facing what comes forward with courage and an unflinching affinity for the truth, even when it’s not as flattering as we might hope. See more about the direction of both energies (and get ready for the Cardinal Full Moon later this month) here: http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-summer-2010-eclipse/

10:30 AM of the 12th PDT the Moon trines the Earth and sextiles the Sun, bringing the material picture into focus; we see whether our ambitions actually serve our physical goals or not. 12:30 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Pallas and squares Juno (the Juno book should be available Tuesday! Well, I’m excited!) and this means the intuition aligns with our innate wisdom–and likely shows us just how we may be disempowering ourselves, probably through emotional descision-making that is in some way Self-defeating.

By 10:30 of the PM, PDT, the Moon squares Neptune, making us vulnerable to delusion or fantasy, especially the kind that seems it will ‘fix’ whatever’s not been ‘working’ through this Scorpio Moon period. How do you tell that it’s wish-fulfillment, rather than a solution? You have to ask yourself, How much does this solution rely on assuming that others, or other circumstances, will make the change happen? If there’s a lot of reliance on other things or people changing or acting, as well, your supposed solution falls under the realm of fantasy, and needs to be re-worked in a more practical vein.

By 1:30 AM PDT of the 13th the Moon squares Chiron, bringing either a period of hurt (likely at the discovery that your solution wasn’t workable, via the square to Neptune), or you get a healing boost. Allow the love of the Universe to come in; half the time it’s only our resistance that keeps us unhealed and out of the flow. At 2:30 AM-ish the Moon trines Uranus in Water, and we feel our own uniqueness acutely–and that’s good, helping us access our most individual and creative energy through personal sensitivity and the intuitive nature.

By 3:30 AM the Moon is trine Jupiter at 29 Pisces, and though there is an element of stress to this aspect, especially concerning educational, religious, foreign, or social elements, there is a chance to feel our way to the correct approach. Void begins at 4:53 AM PDT, with the Moon entering Sagittarius at 5:52 AM on the 13th PDT.

10 September 2010: One Side or the Other

Tags

The transiting Moon in Libra is 11 minutes from my Sun as I write this, which may explain why, though I fully intended to go to bed, I decided to inspect the prevailing energies first. There was an urgency to it, propelled by a revelation of sorts: that the Virgo New Moon flooded the air with a focus on goals (‘the harvest’), details, and obligations, and with not much else spicing things up (the exception being Venus, see ECLIPSE), it’s had an odd effect: we’re either retreating into a groggy sort of stasis or pulling out all the passive-aggressive guns in our arsenal and blasting away (firing, of course, from the safety of structures, organizations, or social media that puts up an enormous firewall between aggressor and target).

Do you feel it? And which side have you fallen on? Don’t make the mistake of thinking you’re the exception, some exotic third kind of reactor, because hard as I try I can only find one or the other. Just as possible is that we may tell ourselves we’re one, when we’re really the other–and it all seems to be in reaction to two things, that New Moon energy which launched a very thin-feeling atmosphere, not at all like a usual New Moon–and this didn’t offer the renewal that we naturally expect at this point in the cycle–and we find Jupiter and Uranus back in Pisces, both at 29 degrees, refreshing all the insecurities and social drains we thought we’d washed away for good already. The individual struggles to feel their contribution is important, the social scene presents the individual with detailed expectations and requirements that seem to offer only a sense of burden, so that the reasonable among us retreat into a form of hibernation (no matter what they’re occupying their time with) while the susceptible (read also, ‘the unconscious’) focus all their might on a Machiavellian lashing-out that serves to pull the harmless into harm’s way. The aggressor dresses it up as offering friendship, feeling victimized and seeking redress, or ‘helping,’ but it’s clear that they are acting out their anger–and it’s likely anger that should be going somewhere else, but it has found a convenient innocent and a pliable system to and through which to channel it, and that immaturity that became prominent with the New Moon comes out in full force. Sometimes, the anger is going in the right direction, theoretically, but the reaction is unjustified; if someone sees the truth in you, and calls it out, who are you to be angry that they see clearly?  Mars in Libra is just within quincunx to Uranus and soon will make the same aspect to Jupiter–so we’ve got miles of anger to go before the disturbed will let us sleep.

If you find yourself on that groggy, retreating side (and so most likely a target, though it’s possible you’re showing anger-by-withdrawal, dragging feet to spoil things for everyone else) wait to reply or react until after Merc’s direction; a great many scales will find their balance at this point. And if you find yourself with a big ol’ knot of anger in your gut, anger that you may not have even known was there until you thought about it, anger that you covered with a thick blanket of ‘everything’s fine,’ then you have two duties here: find the true reason for your anger, and spend the time before Merc’s direction figuring out how you should react, and perhaps atoning for how you already did.
