A Mystic Rectangle is formed by the Nodal axis (NN in Leo, SN in Aquarius along with Mars and Black Moon Lilith), and Sun-Mercury opposed Chiron-Earth-Hygeia. We saw this one coming, right? We could feel a sort of inevitability to this configuration, the implication that actions in the past denied or ignored will be revealed, communicated, and healed–all good, right? The time has come.

There’s also a Grand Trine of Juno, Sun-Mercury, Mars-South Node. Again, empowerment comes from seeing, communicating, accepting actions taken in the past, or arising from the past but happening now. Add to this the Uranus trine to Vesta, and Merc’s square to Saturn; taking an original tack that honors our highest values, and being aware that realities may present obstacles or real-world contradictions to plans, and we have a clear mandate: do what’s right, do what’s best.

We may have some very ‘unhealthy’  or contrary thoughts, but how are we going to respond to them? Will we refuse to question our own assumptions, insisting that our ideas and assertions are sacred, not to be modified even one iota despite intellectual recognition that they are ‘out there’? As our attention turns toward partnership, toward sharing and healing, we’d be smart to accept the unusual quality of our ideas at this time, to exploit them for their originality, their ability to help us innovate and invent, their capacity both to help us express the uniqueness of our individual natures and to help us fit in with or contribute to ‘the group’. We can be wonderful, radical butterflies right now, if we recognize the ephemeral character of what occurs, and the beauty and creativity available if we are flexible enough to take it in, to modify our viewpoint. A special kind of day, one where we can celebrate our uniqueness, if we’ll only open to it. Today’s word image is just a word: ‘incorrigible’. The basic definition in adjectival form is, ‘(of a person or their tendencies) not able to be corrected, improved, or reformed.’ I’ve always heard the word used in a cutesy way, applied to someone behaving badly that the speaker doesn’t want to punish or judge, but to instead implicate is unchangeable, being themselves, a ‘boys will be boys’ attitude that removes responsibility for behavior and choices from the individual and places it within their nature, as if the characteristics displayed are inevitable parts of the Being, and so must be accepted. Of course, we have a version of this travesty of co-dependent excuse-making playing out before us right now with Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh and his supporters responding to sexual assault accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. We may be looking at the battle between Zeus and Pluto in Cardinal square with Kavanaugh’s defenders–ambition and power so ravenous they actually work against each other, revealing the naked desire to obliterate the Truth in favor of bestowing unquestioned power and reach, seeing their desires as sacred. Is there someone like this in your life, someone who thinks their egregious behavior is simply a reflection of their superiority, their right? There’s an old retort I’d like to put to Kavanaugh and his ilk: ‘Have you no shame?’ The answer, apparently, is no, they don’t.

The New Moon occurs at 11:01 AM PDT at precisely 17 Virgo, opposed Neptune, sextile Jupiter, trine Pluto, and is apex to a Fist of God (Thor’s Hammer, for Nordic purists) with base of Black Moon Lilith square Uranus. The Sabian for the New Moon is, ‘A Volcanic Eruption’ (and here’s why we read the Sabian for 17 Virgo, rather than reading 18 Virgo as we would if the event occurred even one minute later). Taken all together, we have to ask ourselves, What is it we need to sacrifice, let go of, or otherwise release, in order to honor humanity’s primal urge to appease forces mightier than we?

Contacts to the New Moon suggest we are already as far from illusion as we can get (opp Neptune–though this doesn’t take into account the individual capacity to fool oneself–so, if you’re firmly committed to a delusion, this won’t change things, but if you’re still in touch with reality, you stand on relatively firm ground); that the social sphere or ‘the facts’ (Jupiter) require/ facilitate change, destruction, removal, or transformation (Pluto); and that this need for change may spring from those matters we’ve ignored or denied (BML) clashing (the square) with our need to individuate, to proclaim our place within the group, or to upset through rebellion, revolution, invention, innovation, or original (Uranus) ideas or concepts introduced via our ‘shaking’ of the social apple cart.

A New Moon happening in Virgo automatically asks for a new start that makes us accountable, and calls for the paring away of what is extraneous, once we’ve critiqued the life. The Virgin of the sign paired with the symbol of the erupting volcano says that crisis forces action, or at least a response we hope will alleviate the pressure. That may be an illusion, a superstition–and yet, the ‘giving away’ (that is, sacrifice) of something we find precious, useful, productive, that holds potentials, is a true sacrifice; typically we only let go of what we no longer need, no longer find of value, and that means, no matter how generous, it’s not a sacrifice at all. With this New Moon, we may be asked to acknowledge what we’ve avoided, to change what needs transforming, and to embrace something unique within ourselves and put that center stage in the life, perhaps for a time allowing it to define us, in service to, and response to, something greater than we. What we give up, contribute, or let go in the hope of bettering things may be something we value–in fact, it has to be, or our efforts to satisfy the emotional call of the New Moon will go unanswered.

Bonus: a natal placement at 16 Taurus 30 to 19 Taurus 30 fills in an Earth Grand Trine with Pluto and the New Moon–your sacrifice may be larger, more definitive, or more final than most, and may carry the essence of the natal planet or point contacted.

Also, a natal placement at 16-19 Aries is apex to a Finger of God with base of the New Moon and Jupiter. This suggests that New Moon efforts on the social scene, or based on what you learn at this time, may prompt a ‘new start’ in terms of the contacted planet or point.

Ceres enters Libra and opposes Chiron in Aries, forming a Cardinal T-square with an arm of stationary and then direct Saturn in Capricorn, which lasts through the 12th. This may act as backdrop for two other active players, the Sun and Mercury; the background, first. The T may set up a doing dynamic (Cardinal energy) where we believe we’re approaching everything with a Collective awareness, a sense that we’re thinking adequately of others and their needs, especially partners or our audience (Libra)–the reality may be that we are falsely equating what we as individuals believe and want with what everyone wants (Aries). We think we know the ‘right’ answer for every situation, and will charge forward until obstacles, or conversely a sudden ‘Go!’ signal (the brakes removed by Saturn’s direct motion), slows us down (yes, the suddenly open pathway will be a case of ‘You’re getting your way so you can see how wrong you are!’) It doesn’t mean everything will be a disaster; at least some of what happens will be positive, will represent significant progress–it’s more a condition where we will learn how injurious having our unfettered way can be to ourselves and to others (Chiron in Aries).

That said, once we wake up to this dynamic, we’ll likely fall into a ‘Me Versus the World’ mindset. A square of Pluto to Zeus and Mars square Venus might make us feel there are forces out to get us (or at least someone ready to give us a hard time), and a trine of Uranus to Pallas might make it very difficult to consider we may not be the wisest voice–and this also makes Saturn a partner in an Earth Grand Trine with Pallas-Mercury and Uranus, lasting through the 11th, but with Merc moving on by the 8th. We see ourselves (or the group–Uranus) as smart and practical, reasonable, original and innovative–and good luck convincing us otherwise!

The most ‘surface’ energies we’ll deal with come in two flavors: the Sun and what it touches, and Mercury and what it touches. The Sun will contra-parallel and oppose Neptune=the influence is one of rationality, but that also means creativity and idealism suffer in the light of critical thinking (Virgo Sun); parallel Hygeia and novile the North Node=our attention to the critical functions and the details is healthy, and can help guide us in clever and advantageous acts that form the future; and the Sun acts as apex to a Fist of God with base of Mars square Uranus=those who truck in anger and chaos at this time may find themselves under a criticism-welcoming spotlight.

With Mercury we see it quincunx Mars and then enter Virgo=anger over the ego or how we’re treated as an individual (Merc in Leo) generates anger that gives way to a more discerning approach to things (Virgo); then quincunx Chiron, with the sextile of Chiron to Mars making Merc the apex to a Finger of God=a healed ego or assertive energy ‘speaks’ in some form; conjoin Pallas=and the result of that Finger is an addition to our store of wisdom; sesquiquadrate Pluto, and then Merc waltzes into that Earth Grand Trine=difficult but good for you eliminations segue into an appreciation of some facet of our balanced view/ approach; finally forming apex to another Finger, this one with base of Black Moon Lilith-South Node sextile Hygeia=when we face  and ‘process’ the past or those things we’ve been ignoring, we get healthy, and that influences our thinking positively. Isn’t that always the way?

We deal with ‘I versus We’ concepts through this period; with any luck, we achieve that healthy balance, and work out a viable and productive plan to go forward.

We’ll call this the Word Image for Today and Tomorrow, the 5th and 6th: I had a dream that I’ve been trying to retrieve since I woke up–and it’s not getting any clearer. I know at some point I’ll remember–even in the dream state, I thought: Oh, this is a really useful symbol. But, when I ‘see’ the dream, there is a central image that is blurred out. So, for now, I’m going to say that stands for something in the middle of our lives that either we should be focusing on, or that we’re missing all together–and its importance is based on its central role, around which so much else is defined or operates.

The 1st there’s something I might term ‘Purity of Intention’ going on, where our imagination and ideals inspire us to adjust our actions so that they’re wise, our relationships so that empowerment is fair and others are honored appropriately, and in following this instinctual course we end up making surprising strides toward ambition fulfillment. Our only issue might be that when we act, especially act propelled by our own ego or Will, we may not be very smart about it. With these influences, there’s something about taking ourselves out of the equation that allows us to soar so much higher (Neptune contra-parallel Hygeia, Mars qnx Pallas, Venus qnx Juno, Sun nov Zeus and parallel Sedna)

On the 2nd Mercury squares Juno, and we may find ourselves arguing against or thinking in conflict with our own empowerment. Befuddled reasoning is a sure sign that we’re working against ourselves, while others’ delivery of negative commentary suggests they’re the power-stealing culprit.

Interesting to note for today, the 26th, as Venus perfects a square to Pluto, she also conjoins Zeus (and this will bleed over into the next day or two). So, the discord that a square can stir (and one to Pluto can easily spin up into a riot, a ‘You can’t fire me, I quit!’ kind of destructive fit) combines with a kind of heart’s desire energy, and the mix may result in a lashing out when we aren’t getting the prize we desire. Just be aware–a lack doesn’t translate as you never getting what you want, so why not use the energy to delve into what you might need to change in order to get it?

For the 27th the big event is Mars going direct. Is that gust of wind the combined sighs of everyone who’s been holding their breath over this? Because if so, their relief is premature. Mars does his about-face as major body of latest degree–meaning his energy is out there, swingin’ all on its own–and that can make for precipitous action as people sense the ease up and believe that’s a ‘Go!’ signal. Instead it’s more of a ‘look around and consider what you might want to do, once you get your bearings.

All other aspects simply amplify these major chords, with the addition of effects from Mercury sesquiquadrate Chiron and square Jupiter. This suggests thinking, reasoning, and yes speaking from the wound, likely without our realizing it–and what comes out may challenge our own beliefs about life, and certainly may pinpoint our disillusion with the social sphere–but does that help anybody? Only if it makes us more aware of what we can do to make things better–otherwise it may just kick up a lot of complaint, and fuel actions with badly mixed motives. But, if we can hold on to a gift from the 26th, where our thinking was able to disown or ignore the worst illusions and so show us our best power position and our most effective way of affecting the world, we can take that stirred up energy and point it in the ‘right’ direction (Merc qnx Neptune and nov Ceres)

The Full Moon is sesquiquadrate the close conjunction (only three minutes apart) of Venus and Zeus in Libra, making me think maybe this is about coming to some realizations as we try to find the ‘set point’ for relationships, earnings, ambitions, passions, or some matter ruled by Venus in the natal chart. Falling in Pisces, the Full Moon brings a conclusion, ending, or shift to a new emphasis, one flavored by the imagination, delusions, deceptions, ideals, and what they have (or have not) created in the life. We look at relationships, desires, and ambitions in that ideal form we’d hoped for, and with the culmination energy see what has come about in real-world terms. The Full Moon allows us a window into the effect of our own personal fairy tales, what they’ve actually wrought, and how far from (or close to) the dream we hold they actually are.

The distance may not be all that far–or relationships, desires, and ambition considerations may all fall behind a more pressing concern, related to matters of the natal House in which the FM falls. An ending here could push the state of interaction or want to the back burner–where it could simmer through the coming month, perhaps arriving via the unconscious as it orchestrates things behind the scene in anticipation of the next New Moon.

The Full Moon may wake us up by ending some illusion. ‘The Sleeping Beauty’ By John Collier 1920 {{PD}}

The Full Moon in Pisces perfects on the 26th at 4:56 AM PDT at 3 Pisces 12. It seems to me that all the contact to Uranus and Saturn, with the Full Moon hovering just between at the rough midpoint, suggests a kind of measuring of action v. stasis, revolution v. what’s established, being original or following tradition (and this measuring probably started as early as the 22nd, as every day since has felt like one where our character and conduct was weighed in the balance). In looking at ourselves, we’ve laid the groundwork to look out at what we value, at our relationships, and at what we want–and the Full Moon delivers a conclusion, realization, or makes obvious an ending–then it’s up to us what we do with it.

The Full Moon’s sextile to Saturn catches the Black Moon Lilith point at the midpoint, and the Full Moon sextile to Uranus catches Chiron more-or-less at the midpoint, and this suggests a lot of peripheral influences on what manifests at the Full Moon–or is that a chain reaction, with wounds and those things we’ve ignored or been in denial about exerting a distinct but hard to pin down influence on proceedings? In any case, the energy of change and stasis each occupy the far ends of a fulcrum made up of the Full Moon point, with matters of hurt, rage, denial, and the demand for Self-respect tipping the scales toward either keeping things as they are, or throwing them into chaos.

The Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘Heavy Car Traffic On A Narrow Isthmus Linking Two Seashore Resorts’. This speaks of the difficulty and confusion, the sheer stress and polluting presence, of communications and the interests that drive them. We’re all trying to have a good time, but it’s not going so well as everyone strives to have her or his message reach its destination.

For the opposing Sun the Sabian is, ‘Black And White Children Play Together Happily’. The origin of all this tension is the ideal of having everyone, no matter how contrasting the individuals seem on the surface to be, getting along and enjoying life. So, all the turbulence caused by the Full Moon influences have their roots in a wish for harmony and equality–not such an impossible dream, at all.

These ‘peripheral’ energies do form a Finger of God, providing us with an answer, when we wonder what the point of having our fairy tales washed in a stark dose of reality really is: it’s found in the sextile of Chiron to Black Moon Lilith, as base of the Finger, apex the Sun. Our wounds and our denials must be abandoned, if we’re to find a way to interact successfully; harmony (the Sun Sabian) is, in the end, something we must deliberately create ourselves.

It’s worth noting that Mars will go direct just a little over 24 hours later, suggesting that what we learn at the Full Moon must be ruminated on, just a bit, before we take action. Consider that 27 hours or so a ‘cooling off period’, allowing you to process, and to look carefully, before you leap.

The only way to achieve that wonderful material balance, that careful mix of spontaneity and stasis, originality and tradition, resistance and abandon, is to be willing to see: the facts, what wounds, other people and their wants (especially the wants they have of which they’re unconscious), and to be aware of our own vulnerability on the social scene (or when living by the larger social order’s rules). Our beliefs may suffer, and our relationships or finances are subjected to a kind of ‘hands off’ attitude that may make us feel powerless where we expected to be able to exert our Will. Look out for, even under the best circumstances, a bit of a power struggle, a little tug-of-war in a dispute of Wills, and meet everything with kindness kindness kindness–it’s the best balm, and the best weapon, we’ll have (Jupiter sesq Chiron, Venus contra-parallel Juno, Sun-Uranus-Saturn Earth Grand Trine perfects, Sun is also qnx Black Moon Lilith)

On Staying on the Path: I’ve been seeing a lot of talk online lately that I can sum up something like this: everything will be OK, as long as you stick to your Path. I just want to say, No. It’s simply impossible not to be on your Path. Every step, even ones you regret, or later backtrack on, are part of your Path. Telling yourself that you could make a move that takes you off your Path is paralyzing and causes truckloads of Self-doubt, on top of just plain being wrong. So don’t fear getting lost or wandering off; you are the one making the choices, and you literally can’t make a wrong one, in the sense that you learn from everything you choose, and that it is you and only you making those choices–and isn’t that the point of the journey in the first place, Self-discovery, experiences, learning and becoming? So relax–even if things are a mess, they’re your mess–that means you are in charge, you can change them at any time, and they are there, speaking of and to you, empowering you to know yourself by your choices, your creations.

What keeps the Jupiter-Neptune trine perfecting today from presenting a mass delusion, or manifesting as hopelessly confusing or misleading information, fantasy, or deception run amok? It’s that lovely parallel of Venus to Neptune; it keeps our focus on what we value, on what matters, on what’s worthy, to us–and that means optimism plus ideals and dreams creates a chance to believe it, and so see it. To make the most of this aspect takes a depth of faith few of us have, but that’s not necessarily a negative thing; without a healthy skepticism we’d end up in an endless string of victimizing situations. Today, though, we can lay that skepticism aside, as long as we have two other faculties tuned up and on point: our sense of what’s wise (which is also what’s healthy, big clue there!) and our instincts. If those two are up and running with no obstacles, this can be a day when we attract our heart’s desire–but then, good, bad, or otherwise, we’ll have to face that what appears is what we’ve been pulling toward us, all along (Pallas sesq Hygeia, Jupiter trine Neptune, Venus sesq Sedna and parallel Neptune)

Bonus: If you have a natal placement at 13-17 of Cancer, Jupiter-Neptune fills in a Water Grand Trine. You should see all the possible potentials in, all your delusions about, and all the opportunities to create, represented by the contacted natal energy or point. It may feel like the calm before the storm–you look around and see an abnormally still landscape of the time stream at rest–and the moment resonates (and lasts!) like the reverberation of a struck tuning fork. Wherever you find yourself mentally at this time is setting the tone (and initiating a turn of the wheel) for the coming period for Self-expression, the power situation, health/ relationship with Nature, and with what you’ll get and give. One of those times we tend to move through almost coma-like, with both heightened sensitivities and a kind of obliviousness existing all at once, where tracks for the future are laid down–so be as conscious as possible, especially of the potential implications of what you choose, do, and fail to do (No new aspects perfect on Friday, followed by Mercury’s station direct on Saturday, when he noviles Ceres and sextiles Venus)

Word image for these two days is a CEO who may lose control over his company because of his indiscreet tweets. That fits so many situations right now, doesn’t it? Err on the side of restraint when it comes to communications, and in particular, be aware that what you’re putting out now (and thinking, and saying, and focusing on) is, as noted above, building what’s to come.

This is wonderful, perfect for this weekend.
