‘Jupiter and Juno on Mount Ida (detail)’ By James Barry 1790 {{PD}}

This article first appeared in a 2015 edition of Eclipse; the current version has been added to and modified.

Juno: the Consort, the Mate, the Woman in Charge by virtue of her position and status, a figure who should be listened to and respected, but who is repeatedly disrespected by her philandering spouse and ignored by others–hence her reputation for anger and vindictive displays. Who can blame her? No one likes being frustrated, which is why Juno’s magic comes from learning Self-empowerment, a condition where one doesn’t rely on others to feel effective in the world. Juno for a woman shows where and how she gains empowerment (through sign and aspects), with the sign opposite the one in which Juno sits giving hints about the kind of person with whom she’d like to mate (combine this with 7th House indicators for a more complete picture on the potential acceptable spouse–the 5th is for purely romantic considerations, and may not figure into mate selection at all). For women Juno’s front and center in terms of feeling one has an impact on one’s world and in how thoroughly one is in charge of one’s own Fate, and until she is determining her own Path, Juno may also show where a woman is being held back from that kind of Self-determination. For men it’s much more subtle, riding just below consciousness, and awareness of empowerment potentials. For both men and women Juno shows empowerment gained by personal effort and by status through association with other powerful entities; for men it further describes the kind of person seen as appropriate ‘mate’ material, especially in terms of the behaviors characteristic of the sign in which Juno sits. Typically men notice Juno most when they are seeking a spouse (and this is so no matter the sexual preference). Someone is assessed by the Juno standards, usually without too much conscious thought—they either strike him as appropriate to partner with or not. The keyword for reading Juno in the chart is ‘empowerment’, keeping in mind that this designates by aspect and transit where that struggle is occurring, or where we are trying to implement it, rather than guaranteeing the empowerment needs will be fulfilled there.

‘Ceres’ By Osmar Schindler c1902 {{PD}}

Ceres: she’s Mother Nature, but also every maternal figure (like the Moon), especially the ones who think they know best (not like the Moon), and she represents all growing things (though agriculture technically falls under Pallas–Ceres is instead Nature, with a capital ‘N’). Ceres is also all manner of negotiations, and generally every authority you’ve ever known who came by that authority as a given, a natural authority. Ceres has the life force itself behind her, giving her a source of power that drives all life on Earth–but such extreme power can also mean she fails to recognize the autonomy of others or their boundaries, overestimating both the reach of her authority and her rightful territory. The keywords for reading Ceres in the chart are ‘personal authority/ power’, though keeping in mind that the entity represented feels they have authority no matter what their actual position; also remember the potentials for the maternal influence (though it may only be a feeling or a ‘superior/ inferior’ relationship attitude), negotiation, and the over-stepping of boundaries, as well as health concerns centered on the body’s interaction with Nature (for instance, allergies).

‘Pallas Athene Visits Invidia’ By Karel Dujardin 1652 {{PD}}

Pallas: the child of Metis and Zeus, Metis being a Titan and representing ‘magical cunning’ (the original connotation of her name) and wisdom. She’s equal parts shrewdness and smarts, with a little dazzle thrown in (via the ‘Trickster’ label). It was foretold that Metis would have extremely powerful children, so as soon as Zeus and Metis got together, he began to worry. Zeus’ answer to all this was to trick Metis into turning into a fly, then swallowing her—what a guy! She was already pregnant with Pallas Athena, and began to create her child’s armor while still imprisoned inside Zeus. This gave him a massive headache—which he hoped to alleviate by having Hephaestus (Vulcan) open his forehead (great idea!) with an axe or a hammer (this sounds far too much like the description for an episode of ‘Jackass’). Of course, we know what popped out of Zeus’ skull with that rupture: a fully grown, fully armored, Warrior goddess, Pallas Athena. In terms of the asteroid, we need to be aware that Pallas’ history caused her to be created knowing a great deal already, and to be strong enough and smart enough to implement it.  Though her keywords are ‘wisdom and practicality’, she also signifies the productive and lucrative outcome of organized labor (such as agriculture) and represents skills of all kinds, but especially those of a practical nature (like weaving), and she can do the Warrior thing in a controlled and intelligent way that is often more effective than the full-tilt of Mars/ Ares. Pallas shows us where we may carry natural, internal wisdom–if only we’ll access it.

‘In the Temple of Vesta’ By Constantin Hölscher 1902 {{PD}}

Vesta: is what we care about to the point of reverence. She represents those core things in life we find sacred, that we feel compelled to honor with our life energy. Though for each individual that involves a different set of concepts and material matters, they all hold in common the reverential attitude that means we will organize our lives around paying homage to these subjects and life areas—so, we will defend, put our energy into, even worship, Vestal things. She also describes (along with the Moon) the character of our need for emotional fulfillment and nurture according to the sign in which Vesta sits, and describes what feels like ‘home’ to us, the conditions we need, whether they are internal or external, in order to rest, relax, and thrive. Vesta can apply to the mate relationship within the ideal of dedication to the partner (and so apply as well to the sex life, which can carry the aura of a spiritual ritual), and of course to any matter, idea, or physical effort we see as appropriate to dedicate our life energy to. Keywords are ‘sacred’ and ‘commitment’, but keep in mind that aspects will elaborate on all potentials, including defending what shouldn’t be defended because of misplaced reverence, and an inability to respect (at least initially) some contacted energies (in hard aspect).

‘The Education of Achilles’ By Auguste-Clément Chrétien 1861 {{PD}}

Chiron: is the primal wound, one gained pre-verbally and so often not consciously recognized. Theoretically, within that wound lies a unique gift that with personal evolution is offered to others, then may move on to expression at a transpersonal level. You have a unique experience of your Chirotic injury, and that makes you specifically qualified to offer that particular kind of healing to others, once you’ve dealt with it yourself. My contention is that the big blow-out of 2012 that some assumed would be the end of the world was in fact a situation of shifts in many extant energies—Chiron being one. I think that Chiron’s gift, which previously could only be used to aid others, not oneself, became available to the individual for the first time at this point. We are now able to use our own Chirotic strength to heal ourselves, since the wound is always directly related to the gift; that means we hold the answer to our own healing. Keywords for Chiron are ‘wound’, ‘gift’, and ‘healing’; you’ve got to hold all three in your mind at once.

Dear Readers, Have a wonderful weekend!

Juno’s symbol, out in the elements. By J.-H. Janßen – Own work, CC BY-SA 3.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=21877131

The AstroEssence: We see permanent change to the health, to the health of relationships or finances, and/ or to power situations, their balance and influence. The group may have their say and it influences our own state or assets, or it may be that sudden revelations, a forward-thinking approach, or our own erratic impulses guide our actions and reactions–but in any case our thinking is not in alignment with either our instincts or that primal ‘knowing’ we carry deep within, and that means we may not see how our own inclinations and prejudices are working to shape things, for better or worse (Pluto parallel Hygeia, Venus sq Ceres and Uranus and sxt Chiron, Mercury qnx Sedna)

The New Moon in Sagittarius occurs at 4:17 AM PST at 7 SAG 42, closely conjoined asteroid Juno, square the Nodal axis, sesquiquadrate Uranus-Ceres, square Neptune and trine Vesta. The NM scenario echoes that of the transiting script; that is, we see a very similar story in the Lunar event and the completed aspect picture, though they don’t actually connect to each other. A Sag New Moon is a new beginning that brings our gaze to the far-off horizon; it marks an inception that stirs us to travel, to move, to do (New Moon in a Fire sign), sparking a restless energy that must be exorcised via action. The aspects the NM makes tell us how the energy will flow, in seeking fulfillment, and we know from the sign placement that what begins now is born out of optimism, is an expression of faith, or is something that arises from ‘the facts’, whatever those may be.

Conjoined Juno and square the Nodal axis, the NM promises that what begins here is centered on power and life direction, specifically at a personal level, and that creates a conduit meshing (and so making sense of) the future as it grows out of the past. It may be easier than at any previous time to see how what we’ve been and done in the past has lead to now, and we’ll clearly see what this presages for the future. Illusions or fantasies that block our perceptions will be stripped away–to keep them means we must turn away from the new start–and those most unique facets of our identity and our individuality must adjust to what’s presented here, namely the most effective way to our own empowerment. ‘Natural’ roles and expressions (for instance, our role as a woman or a man, as a mother or father, or as a sexual or creative Being) shouldn’t be ignored in choosing our life direction; we are meant to seek a place among the elements at this time, though we might be tempted to deny that these life-long role-affinities are still a part of us (out of a need to feel we’ve grown beyond them, perhaps?) We need to recognize that the NM offers an event or beginning that allows us to bring these roles to a higher, more authoritative expression, one that brings their realization much closer to our ideal.

We have the support of the mate or home environment, and can count on our highest values to help define the new start we’re offered; we also see how those things to which we’ve chosen to dedicate our energy literally create the Path forward–again, how the past has formed and informs the future. Today’s scenario may be one where we are caught up with the daily aspects in such a way that our attention goes to those permanent changes, as we attempt to manage them, so that both the unconscious and the New Moon slip in their influence without our seeing it, until a little time has passed. This is supported by the Sabian symbol for the New Moon: ‘Within The Depths Of The Earth New Elements Are Being Formed’. Deeper elements of the Self will bubble to the surface, in time; they are called forth by changes in the current landscape, and by the promise of what’s on the horizon–and, whether we are aware of it or not, they begin to form, to gain coherence and cohesion, with this Sagittarius New Moon.

new-moon-in-sagittarius-november-2016

For those born with the Sun at 8 Sagittarius: As the Sun enters the 8th degree of the sign, it is precisely conjoined with Juno, with no variation at all, and is also exactly square the Nodes. This is of note if only because we rarely see such a crisp picture involving more than one body or point–and here it suggests you are, at this point in time, a totally empowered Being, and that the events this coming Solar year, through to your next birthday, will revolve around you seeing how your past has created your future. It may be upsetting, disheartening, or exhilarating, to realize with such clarity how much you have been in charge of your own life and fate all along, but its best purpose is to open your eyes to the fact that this year, there’s nothing stopping you from making your life exactly what you want it to be. Here’s a hint to go about it: rewards come from taking a chance, from unexpected sources, and by demonstrating your own originality. Good luck, Sag, and Happy Birthday!

FBI Announcement of No Charges Against Hillary + Juno!

Just a few astro-points: at the time of the announcement of the FBI recommendation of no charges, the Moon was Void-of-Course at 29 degrees of Cancer–and also moving to square her natal Juno at 29+ Libra (this does not negate the Void, as only planets and lights are classically considered to determine Voids). We’re seeing the worst (the square) about this Juno figure (Clinton, with Juno suggesting power, status, and, yes, an identity as the ‘wronged wife’) and what we learn is not going to amount to anything (the Void). As an aside, she also has Black Moon Lilith at 29 Capricorn natally, suggesting life long tension surrounding secrets or matters ignored or denied, and perhaps a perpetual state of feeling angry and wronged, particularly in regard to ‘the rules’–and considering this is opposed her natal Vesta in Cancer, any time she stands up for her priorities or looks to further her highest values (she has done significant work promoting accessible health care for children), difficult forces come out of the woodwork to oppose her–or so it seems to her.

In glancing at her chart and today’s transits, we note Chiron and Mars fill in a Water Grand Trine with her natal Vesta=actions and choices easily either hurt or heal the values and to what she dedicates her energies–so people may either forgive the choices or permanently condemn her for them, but in any case, it’s a conclusion largely driven by emotion (Water); the Earth quincunxes her natal Pluto-Mars in 10th of career and public image (and if we consider the transiting South Node, we make her Mars-Pluto apex to a Finger of God)=we are offered the deep down dirt, the material results of both behavior and investigation laid bare, and there’s an implication that we must adjust our ideas to fit the reality–the result is a purge, a deconstruction of actions and choices; we also see the Moon at the time of announcement within orb of trine to her natal Jupiter, ruler of her Whole Sign 2nd=no matter what you think of Ms. Clinton, the details offered by FBI Director Comey speak of her Self-worth, Self-image, personal assets, talents, general way of seeing herself within the larger context of the world (all 2nd House)–so see her, and judge her, as you will.

P.S. Somehow I left out the most obvious part: t Juno will by the 26th conjoin Hillary’s Sun, and is already within orb in its current position. Is it any surprise she’s prevailing at this point?

Here’s something I wrote on the Clintons in the past.

Here's Juno, telling someone what to do. Antonio Randa (Italy, 1577-1650) ' Juno and King Aeolus at the Cave of Winds' {{PD}}

Here’s Juno, telling someone what to do. Antonio Randa (Italy, 1577-1650) ‘ Juno and King Aeolus at the Cave of Winds’ {{PD}}

And speaking of Juno, the Juno probe has arrived and begun its orbit of Jupiter: here are details on the mission itself. And Jude Cowell gives us some insight.

Symbolically speaking we’re seeing the uniting of a couple, two gods ‘marrying’, intending at least for a time to communicate and ‘live together’. Despite all the clashes that followed their return to Olympus, Juno and Jupiter were initially very happy together, enjoying a 300 year honeymoon corresponding to the time they stayed away from their home turf and the other gods. This is an interesting thing to consider: how good is a relationship, really, if it only thrives in a rarefied, isolated environment?

Notes on the 6th of July 2016

We can enjoy some extraordinary luck today, unusual, even magical experiences, ‘breaks’, and serendipities, as long as we are flexible and open to changes in the blink of an eye, able to go with sudden developments and innovations. Surprises may arise from past choices, and cooperation may hit a high point, with male-female relations exceptionally smooth–each play their hand and the other likes it–also look for the ways you can take advantage of easy alignment of matters in the Houses ruled by Venus and Mars. For instance, if you have Aries on the 3rd, Taurus on the 4th, and Libra on the 9th it might be the perfect day to schedule a test or home inspection, to sign a contract for work on the home or involving real estate, to re-enroll in school or a home-study course, or it could be a good time to make plans to travel to see family at a distance.

The Sun and Mercury meet in Superior (direct motion for Mercury) Conjunction, bringing a minor cycle seeded at the Inferior Conjunction (around 10 May) to a conclusion. Whatever may have begun at that time reaches its apex–and ends, wraps up, or proves untenable, making it clear we should move on (Uranus nov SN, Venus trine Mars, Sun conj Merc)

Duckling by Bruno Liljefors 1903 {{PD}}

Duckling by Bruno Liljefors 1903 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a duckling alone on a pond. We may be experiencing a sense of loneliness, of abandonment, or of vulnerability, as if in some important area or way we are too ‘young’ to handle our present environment. Realize everything holds risk, but to focus on that is crippling; instead work at stretching your wings, and staying alert.

On Horary Questions, Juno, and the Moon in Scorpio

Moon in Scorpio

The transiting Moon in the Scorpion’s sign adds depth to the atmosphere, so that those who are comfortable with emotion and with the way things are, are most ‘at home’ in the world right now; everyone else, the thinkers and doers and those ready for change may feel they’re moving through mud (or is it quicksand?) Just something to keep in mind during Luna’s journey–and of course this is the sign that holds part of the ancient Via Combusta (‘The Burning Way’). The Moon sited between 15 Libra and 15 Scorpio (Tropical) was considered a malefic placement in Horary, and some Horary Astrologers still use this in delineation. The reputation for this area may derive from fixed stars found there in ancient times, or from the way the Sun and Moon do not flourish in signs associated with the traditional malefics Saturn –Libra–and Mars–Scorpio. You may ask, does this area hold negative implications for natal placements found there? The answer is, no.

Juno at the midpoint of Mercury-Zeus 14 October

Obscure, I know, but an interesting set of contacts, especially when we note that Juno is also sesquiquadrate Sedna. Mind games may be the order of the day, not with others, but with ourselves! There will be a scratching, scrabbling, underlying need to feel empowered that could permeate thinking and communications, and be driven by desires, ambitions, instincts, and those matters in our ‘blind spot’ (issues that we carry that are plain as day to everyone else, but of which we remain blithely unaware!) This means we may be very vulnerable today, and possibly not even know we are (this could last through the 18th)–and that suggests hypersensitivity springing from what we’re not conscious of, from what we have hidden even from ourselves (or most especially from ourselves, that everyone else sees). Communicate with care, and realize that what we want may be exerting a much stronger influence on how we deal with others than we are aware–and that true cooperation will flourish only when we have as much regard for others’ wants and needs as we have for our own.

On Asking Horary Questions

When we ask about some matter using astrology, we need to understand that astrology can lay out the possibilities, but can’t be anymore definite about the outcome than we are at the moment of asking. By that I mean, if we are examining several alternatives through a horary question for the feasibility of each potential choice, we can only expect some generalities to show themselves, an outline of potentials, rather than a full-color, detailed portrait of guaranteed outcomes. It’s the difference between saying, “I’m hungry; where shall we go eat?” and so considering several potential places, and saying “I’m hungry; I’ll go to Fred’s and have the Chili-Cheese Conquistador for one!” With the first we haven’t decided anything but that we have a need and will consider alternatives–we wouldn’t reasonably expect to know the quality of the meal or the service, and anything that might happen there, at this stage; with the second we recognize the need and commit ourselves in a particular direction, from which we can extrapolate what the experience may be like, indigestion and all–and so with astrology, the first approach will tell us a little something about the experience we can expect with each restaurant, while the second will be much more specific, telling us what to expect with that particular meal experience at that place at this time.

This is something I’ve encountered many times working with querents (those asking the question): there is an expectation that astrology will not just tell them what to do, but will promise the success of a particular choice or venture. There is a kind of passive attitude that says astrology will give a definitive answer that not only makes the choice for them, but that also guarantees everything will develop along what they consider optimal lines. It just doesn’t work like that.

First, astrology does not tell us what to do: it shows us the probable circumstances resulting from a choice–and second, it doesn’t necessarily comment on the results, unless the choice itself brings immediate results. We can’t sit in the back seat and say, “I’ll climb into the front and turn left at the next crossroads, but only if the car will then turn into a Maserati and I’m guaranteed to arrive safely at my destination with a magically appearing pile of money in the trunk!” In this case, the querent is looking for a promise that taking responsibility and making a choice will insure that things go perfectly–beyond perfectly, really, to a kind of magical reward outcome–but a question can only address the next step, and the ripples this might cause, with potential ripples to the step after that moving out in ever-widening circles, and so being impossible to determine at the current, first-step point.

One more example: we ask, “Will my house sell by June?”, in one instance having it already listed for sale, and asking the same before having listed it. How could it possibly sell by June, or at all, if you haven’t taken the step of first listing it? The assumption that we can leap over necessary steps to find the ultimate outcome is detrimental to the asking process in that one then approaches the entire matter with the idea that no energy will be expended in a direction unless that direction is guaranteed to pan out positively–and yet, consider how many times something that didn’t work out sent you in a different direction, and so sparked a later success.

That old saying about a journey beginning with a single step truly applies to asking questions in horary astrology. It’s the next step we see in the chart, and as with everything in life, there are just no guarantees about how it will all come out.

Re-Visiting: Desperate for Power: Aspects of Rod Blagojevich

rod-blagojevich

Here’s a look back at the chart of just sentenced former Illinois governor and ‘Apprentice’ candidate Blagojevich; we get a reminder of how much better it serves us to carefully balance the Self-image we insist on with the undeniable facets of our reality.

We don’t have an accurate birth time readily available for embattled Illinois governor Rod Blagojevich, but we do know reliably that he was born December 10, 1956 in Chicago. The lengths to which he’s willing to go to defend himself, marked by an extreme impetus for denial, even in the face of material evidence, suggests some interesting astrological dynamics at work, and in inspecting his chart, I wasn’t disappointed. The big question for me was, does he genuinely believe he’s done nothing wrong, or is this an ego-driven show designed, like a magician’s sleight-of-hand, to re-direct attention, and leave at least a few of his followers with the ability to maintain the illusion of good character? The principle being that, as long as he continues to insist he did no wrong, some will believe he didn’t.

I went in looking for how he feels about power, and a few things jumped out at me. Of course, I have my own personal ideas about Juno in a man’s chart (please see my Juno book for further explanation), and Blagojevich did not disappoint: he has Juno opposed Uranus involved in a T-square with Neptune. Now, with no angles there’s only so far we can go with this–but do we really need them? This, to me, summed up his personality nicely: the Will to total power, wherein the male incorporates the female as well, making himself, in essence, everything (which is what I believe Juno can, in some men’s charts, indicate) is here opposed to the individuality urge as well as the group (Uranus), and we have some volatile ingredients for a contradictory temperamental dish. His Will to power is at odds with his own uniqueness, as well as with group involvement, and these two features may be constantly at war–he has to stand out, and yet may reject his own separateness, if his goal is empowerment–and no one runs for political office without that goal.

With Neptune squaring this dynamic, the imagination, ideals, and urge to deception are all perpetually in conflict with what has to amount to a basic manifestation of the Beingness–and telling lies could, under the right conditions, become a way of life. Neptune, remember, can also serve us as we attempt to create an image for the consumption of others–and with his Pisces Moon, this would be a natural channel for the emotions to express (this whole set-up could be the mark of a strongly ego-centered artist, as well . . . so nature/ nurture, I guess!)

Juno is also part of a mixed element Grand Trine with the South Node and Jupiter, the latter of which sits at 29 degrees (stress!) of Virgo. This dynamic suggests that the empowerment needs are easily linked to the social realm, and that the social framework within which Blagojevich moves is both a source of personal stress and the forum for expressing the empowerment desires, all guided by the past/ past experience/ where he came from–and he’s made no secret of his exceptionally rough upbringing within the transplanted Serbian culture of his Chicago neighborhood.

Juno sits in wide conjunction with Chiron, uniting the primal wound and the empowerment urge, and these two are widely sextile Saturn, which is in a Grand Trine with Uranus and the Mars/ Ceres conjunction in Aries, bringing in the personal Will to action, to arbitrate, to be the authority in any situation. All this only points up the need to express the Will as absolute, and with Mars and Ceres together in Aries, this individual will not negotiate!

There’s plenty more in the chart that could feed our analysis and give it more dimension, but these components seem so strong, and are currently so prominent in his behavior, that I think they nicely sum up some of the crucial energies at work in the Illinois governor’s psyche. One more point: with ‘the head’ such a strong energy in his chart (Mars in its own sign of Aries), I especially enjoyed this story I heard, and if we give Ceres (as Mother Nature) credit for hair, it makes it even more fun: you all know how the suitcase that travels with the President and holds the codes for nuclear launch is called ‘the football’–well, Blagojevich is said to have his own football (this is what he calls it), the loss or misplacement of which has been known to lead to fiery scoldings (very Arian!) and possibly a firing or two: a particular hairbrush, the only one he believes can tame his thick hair!

My conclusion, gleaned in large part from the above aspect picture, is that Blagojevich doesn’t believe his own patter–but that he stridently expects that others should–and that if they don’t, they must at least pretend to! (Jupiter opposed Mars, Mars quincunx Neptune) His claims that his enemies are cooking up the charges that he was attempting to sell Obama’s vacant Senate seat so they can raise taxes are so silly as to be an embarrassment, as is his attempt to link Obama to this mess by claiming that Oprah was being considered for the seat (implying that this was being pushed for by Obama’s people). Mr. Blagojevich is that most pathetic of individuals, the bold-faced liar who won’t give up, no matter what he’s confronted with, surely the ego (Mars) and the urge to total empowerment (Juno negatively manifest in the male chart) in spectacular overdrive.

Juno Ascends the Throne: Kate Middleton Marries Her Prince

Juno, Juno in the Natal Chart, Kate Middleton, Royal Wedding

Since Juno is the consort/ wife of the supreme ruler, I thought a look at Kate Middleton’s Juno would be in order (9 January 1982 no time known Berkshire UK). Though Kate’s not a Queen Consort yet, she’s almost certain to be one in future–in fact, her Juno, at 16 Sagittarius 46, will be within orb of conjunction to her natal Capricorn Sun by Solar Arc in less than two years–possibly signaling the point when this occurs (though the orb stretches out to as much as 4-5 years from now).

Literal ascension to the throne of England aside, Kate is effectively attaining the potential for this position, and locking in her status, tomorrow with her wedding to William, ostensibly second in line to the throne; but with each passing day the possibility that his father’s reign will be short (by choice or circumstance) or that he will step aside altogether in favor of his popular son, grows. It’s not unlikely, then, that Kate could be a Queen sooner rather than later.

There are really only a few things to talk about centering on Kate’s Juno; it’s conjunct Vesta and Neptune, all in Sagittarius, sextile Pallas, and square Zeus (this latter is the most intriguing part–we’ll get to this last). Since a time of birth is not publicly known, I drew a noon chart, which suggests that if she was born anytime around noon local time, she has a Finger of God with apex Juno and arms quincunx of Chiron and the Cancer Moon–and there is defnitely a Finger of God with the same members but replacing the Moon with (or adding to the Moon, if this is close to the Moon’s actual placement) the Earth. Apex Juno says that Juno empowerment and status will be attained once the material Purpose (what’s needed in the surroundings in order to fulfill the Soul/ Sun Purpose–shown by the Earth) and Chiron in Taurus (indicating the primal wound, likely seated in security, especially the material variety) is sufficiently dealt with and the Chirotic skill accessed (again, of a Taurean nature, such as the ability to procure, comfort, or enjoy the sensual and material)–and the Earth and Chiron dispositions are working in harmony–and with all that Earthiness, they seem to be! So, a prime condition for realization of her Juno has been met.

If the Moon is involved in the Finger, it may suggest that an intuitive emotional understanding of material and security needs may drive things–just figurative royal icing on the cake, at this point. The conjunction to Vesta and Neptune suggest the nature of the Juno empowerment will involve glamor and illusion, ideals, to include those things she finds most sacred, home and hearth, and the sex life–kind of a ‘Duh!’ here, isn’t it? But this also points to the way her Juno is specifically empowered through the domestic situation and sex life (Vesta). In Sag Juno will be a kind of Ambassadress, a teacher if by nothing more than example, with ‘reaching out’ both a goal and needed expression–perfect for a Royal role; and the sextile to Pallas offers wise guidance–possibly evidenced by a lack of ‘skeletons in the closet’!

The most intriguing aspect, to me, is the square Kate’s Juno makes to Zeus. This is a point I started using almost by accident, and how it was come up with, I don’t know, it’s part of my Solar Fire program, and it was pointed out to me that it is not the asteroid Zeus (update: I have since discovered that it‘s the hypothetical point  further update: the ‘corrector’ was wrong–it is the asteroid!); but I’m convinced of its accuracy and usefulness–and isn’t that what we’re looking for in bodies and points used in astrological analysis? Yes it is.

This square is like a frantic shout, an ‘Uh-oh, trouble ahead’ in any chart, but in the chart of a future Queen consort, Juno’s literal role in the myth, it’s a huge red flag; what can it mean? The Queen of Olympus (Juno) is in conflict with the King of Olympus (Zeus), who is both her husband and her brother, and as well her sovereign. And what is the conflict in the myth? It is several things, the primary one being infidelity on the King’s part, with secondarily a commensurate disrespect shown toward Juno as both wife and Queen, with her attempts to empower herself (by vengeful plots and issuing orders, mainly) largely ignored by all. But how literally can we take this? Perhaps it only symbolizes the harshness to be expected in taking on a role that is both extremely public and highly symbolic–one’s husband cannot and will not shield one from what is essentially a marital duty, in this case. There is the possibility that this shows actual infidelity–after all, that’s a time-honored tradition of Royalty everywhere, and certainly has direct precedent in Will’s father’s behavior–so the question becomes, how far did this apple fall from the tree? Eventually, we’ll find out.

See more on Juno in the personal chart and in relationship in my book, JUNO IN THE NATAL CHART   And get goods with the lovely Juno emblazoned on them here— Thanks!

Juno, Juno Aspects, Juno in the Natal Chart, Synastry: Juno to Mars

This is from the section describing Juno’s contact in a woman’s own chart to other bodies:

Juno to her own Moon: This links empowerment firmly to female energies concerned with generational, ancestral, maternal, and intuitive impulses, and in easy or neutral aspects (conjunction, sextile, trine) creates a formidable instinctual nature within the individual. In any contact, easy or hard (semi-square, square, sesquiquadrate, quincunx, opposition) this duo has the potential to access powerful generative and cyclic rhythms, allowing the woman to tune in to these and draw on and use that energy as her own, an effective conduit for the Universal flow. It’s an energy that’s creative, primal, and natural, and as such adds something unusual to the woman’s aura; this can make those who are less than comfortable with the physical and psychic roles of women reject or distance themselves from these individuals–these women may be perceived as threatening, carrying a native power that allows access to the unseen, and can make others feel ’emotionally x-rayed’ in their presence.

And this from the definitions of cross-chart aspects, between the charts of partners.

Juno in aspect to partner’s Mars: When with this combination Juno belongs to the woman and Mars to the man, the essence of the contact lies largely in the man’s feelings about his own empowerment as a man, and his effectiveness at fulfilling ego needs and taking action. If he enjoys a solid sense of effectiveness and high Self-esteem, then even in harsh contact he may be willing to work out a way of accepting and supporting the woman’s empowerment choices; she, however, may find him too abrasive in hard aspect, while a soft aspect may hinge on both her own sense of effectiveness and ability to act, and her feeling that his actions support, or at least don’t inhibit, her bid for empowerment (see the cross-chart Saturn contacts for clues as to possible restricting attitudes with both partners). If she feels at least somewhat effective in her actions and that he is ‘for’ her, rather than against her, she may be open to making it work. When Juno is the man’s, though, the picture may be much different: hard aspects suggest he does not see her ego and action energies as compatible with his idea of ‘appropriate’ mate behavior, while soft aspects say that he finds her ego assertions and action choices in general appropriate and pleasing, at least as long as they aren’t threatening (in hard aspect to) his own ego (Mars) and effectiveness (Sun) energies.

30 September 2010: Recognizing the Seeds

30 Thursday Sep 2010

≈ Comments Off on 30 September 2010: Recognizing the Seeds

We move in the wake of our power issues (see previous post for the 29th) all the way through 7-ish PM Pacific, when the Cancer Moon conjuncts the South Node, joining the Nodes in forming a Grand Cross with the Sun/ Earth axis, plus Saturn; the Moon goes from dealing with those very basic and intense power concerns (and even if you didn’t experience an obvious power situation, you likely sensed one, via the Moon’s intuitive function) to involvement in a heavy kind of life-direction-determining event. This all sounds very dramatic but for most of us it won’t be; it’s instead the small, quiet moment that changes everything–so even if you aren’t aware of a big, life-changing thing, you need to realize that there is something path-determining going on today. Recognize the seeds as they are sown, and that even small choices will reverberate.

A trine to Mars in Water forms in the 2 AM hour PDT of October 1st, suggesting that actions mesh well with the emotions; the trick here is to have already brought the emotional state into harmony with the personal intents (natal Sun). If the Self is vibing all of a piece (as they say!) one’s actions and choices will be supported and the intuition will guide. If disharmonies remain unconscious, are disregarded, or carefully swept under the rug, this aspect can mean it’s really easy to facillitate some bad ideas–or at least, act in ways that may be Self-defeating, in the long run.

By 4 AM PDT of the 1st the Moon trines Venus–and whether we’ve chosen well in our actions or not, we’re likely to feel good about it. It’s a bit odd, but not the time to worry about assessing effects or modifying results; instead, relax into the depth and beauty of Venus and the Moon complimenting each other in the feeling element.

Something remarkable is going on–and by remarkable, I don’t necessarily mean positive, but rather mean that things, mostly intangibles, are happening and require our notice–they need to be remarked upon–and yet, I think most of what we’re perceiving is coming through as an irritant: life seems like a downer right now, but most of us have great difficulty pointing to exactly why, as even our more undesirable circumstances show some obvious pluses. Everything is in flux (and I can almost hear some of you adding, still!) but I think the Ceres/ Pluto exact meeting on October 19th may explain a lot. See more on that here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-summer-2010-eclipse/ and see my new book on Juno, its meaning in both womens’ and mens’ natal charts and in synastry here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/ And Thanks to All who’ve supported the book in word, thought, and through purchase–it’s very much appreciated! My ‘Thank You’ for purchasers of JUNO IN THE NATAL CHART is one question answered. Contact me at my email juliedemboski @ hotmail with a specific, focused question, include your birth data, and I will decide how to determine the answer (transits, Solar Arcs, natal indicators, or horary) Please do not try to squeeze a whole reading into one question! At my discretion I will trim ‘too bigs’ down to a one question essence, and you could be disappointed with my choice, so prepare your query with care; and remember, specific questions bring specific answers! If you bought the book under a name and/or email other than the one from which you’re writing, please provide the email address under which it was bought. Please DO NOT send a question before purchasing the book, or your query will be discarded. Also allow me some time to get to your question. Answers will be brief! This is a limited-time offer. Get the book here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com Thanks!

Olaus Magnus 1555 'On the Activities of People at Moonlight' {{PD-Art}}

The women were like beings made of moon milk, and their skin shimmered with little silver dots like those of the salmon in springtime, and the women’s feet and hands were long and graceful.

Clarissa Pinkola Estes Phd,  WOMEN WHO RUN WITH THE WOLVES

The Full Moon for September occurs at 2:17 AM PDT on the 23rd at 00 Aries 15–the Aries Point! In the most straightforward terms, the Aries Point is the slice of space/ time where spirit enters matter, the collision point of  all that is real and unseen with discernible material form. So, a big deal, as for the individual, this point in the flat chart of the natal horoscope designates the point at which the individual meshed the spirit and the physical as we know it; it’s the place where the Soul entered active engagement with the present lifetime. What does this mean for us when the transiting Full Moon coincides with what we might see as a doorway between spirit and material?

The occurrence of the Full Moon at the Aries Point may open a doorway to our origins, to the most fundamental expression of who we are, at that moment when we both took material form (birth) and still retained full consciousness of the Soul essence. The Sabian symbol for 0-1 Aries is: ‘A Woman Just Risen From the Sea; a Seal is Embracing Her’ This image brings to mind the Archetypal story of the Seal Woman who mates with a human male, has a child, and slowly loses her health–all because as she celebrated herself, a hunter saw, and took the sealskin she wore as her ‘true’ identity. The story is given form in ‘Sealskin, Soulskin,’ in Estes’ marvelous ‘Women Who Run With the Wolves.’ She divides the story (which is told in many cultures in many forms) into parts that I know  I can’t improve on, so we’ll look at each part and how it might relate to the Full Moon experience.

Since this is a Full Moon, we know we’re speaking of culmination, the rounding out of some part of our own story. First, there is a kind of initiation that comes through a loss, in one form or another, of the Soul. I think this can be equated to birth, represented by the Aries Point as the doorway; we can’t help but become disoriented, losing a bit of ourselves in the process. Then one ‘loses one’s pelt’ in earnest–we are trying to enjoy our new human form, but in celebrating this we set aside the Soul connectors we still retain, in order to fit in to the earthly realm. We substitute the values of the culture and our tribe, and though these are not completely alien, they do represent the values of consensus, and that means we lose our awareness of those things that make us unique; this loss is represented by ‘poor’ choice (and by that I mean the kind of choices we inevitably make in an attempt to regain that part of ourselves we sense we’ve forgotten) and the way we are lured by the things we think will provide our lack. So we are, like the Seal Woman, left naked and shivering as we search for our eternal Beingness.

Next there is communion with the hunter, the individual who has ‘taken’ our skin–of course, we don’t know that we are facing the thief. This is represented by any animus oriented energy to which we succumb: our own interior animus, our ego, or an external animus: a man, ambition, society’s definition of ‘making it.’ Note that though this story is told as a woman’s loss, this tragedy happens to men, as well; they lose their unique ‘Soul skin’ in an attempt to be the kind of man society (and perhaps the partner) demands, rather than the kind of man they are naturally. The ego and its particular form of vanity promises to fulfill us, to return to us that missing Soul piece, if we will only do its bidding–but this is just not true–it cannot return what it does not possess.

The woman, the entire time she has spent on dry land, has been hearing the call of the sea (her true environment) and has been conscious of her vibrational connection with her child, her spiritual ‘home,’ in a sense. This spirit child in the story is the child of the Seal Woman and the hunter who captured her by stealing her skin. This is representative of the pure, inner connection we retain to the Soul (it can be ‘the inner child,’ though I think it’s something much purer, the experience of the Soul rather than just the seed-manifestation of it), and it’s this element in the story that, agitated by its mother’s distress, stumbles out into the night and trips on the mother’s wrapped up Seal skin, finding and delivering back to the woman her true identity.

So, in all this we are seeing an Archetypal journey in miniature; the Full Moon presents us with the ability to re-acquaint ourselves with that moment when as Soul we slipped into flesh–and this is a vital point, as it is the one time in the incarnation experience (other than the moment of death) in which we can be fully aware of the enormity of who we are, and can re-connect so directly with it.

Using our strict orb, we see that the Sun/ Moon/ Earth makes only one aspect, a T-square with Pluto in Capricorn. Ah ha! Besides being able to glimpse in its purest form the Soul and its intentions on incarnating (in the Sabian, this is the seal embracing the woman, a return to the natural sensibilities), this Full Moon also offers the power (Pluto) to transform (Pluto) our own manifestation in the material (Capricorn). Since the inner is the outer, and the outer the inner, this means we can change anything on any level, with corresponding changes visible (or felt or realized) in the opposite venue.

In ECLIPSE I called this Full Moon “the true birth point of fated Cardinal action,” and outline the other influences in effect at the moment of Full Moon fulfillment that will act on our transformational choices. If you’re planning on getting this issue and you just haven’t yet, now’s the time http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com/new-summer-2010-eclipse/  The life long journey to empowerment is closely related to  the mini-empowerment we will be instituting with this Full Moon; see more on that here http://dogandsunflower.wordpress.com  in my new book on Juno. Thank you!

And have a wonderful Full Moon transformational experience!

What You’re Asking: Dream On, Time Travel, and, Bare-Naked etc.

Jean Lecomte du Nouy 1842-1923 A Eunuch’s Dream {{PD-Art}} Wikimedia Commons

I’m back with another set of search terms found in my stats; sometimes illuminating, sometimes creepy, puzzling, or weird, and sometimes confusing. I bring you the best of them.

dream interpretation of marrying yourself

Shorthand for this would be, perhaps, Oneness, a unity of spirit, the resolution of some internal schism, or making a commitment to honor and care for yourself–all excellent, so the dream is likely an indicator of superior internal (mental, emotional, and spiritual) health. In the natal chart we might see dreams like this when either we have been facing an internal divide, typically between ideals and values (Vesta, Neptune, Venus) v. what our external world, the group, or our role, calls for (Sun, Jupiter, Uranus), with one in one set making hard contact (conjunction, square, quincunx, opposition) to one in the other set, though there are a number of other players that, under the right circumstances (sign or House placement, or natal relationship to a stellium or other complex) would fit the bill; or we may see this kind of dream when one’s attitude toward oneself changes significantly for the better (potentially shown in the chart by Solar Arc contact to the Sun or chart ruler, or contact from a transiting body such as Pluto), and likely triggered as the Moon transits the 12th House, or contacts Neptune.

dream symbol Solar eclipse

This seems a warning, and a call for questions: are you being eclipsed in some sense, with someone or something ‘blocking your light’ symbolically? Is someone coming between you and your material needs or goals, your prosperity, your sense of groundedness and reality, and secondarily, might they be using emotional manipulation to do it (the scenario of Moon coming between Earth and Sun)? Are your own emotions blocking the connection of Soul and Material Purposes (represented in the chart by the Sun/ Earth axis)? Are you being kept from enjoying your chance to shine? There is the chance that you may be observing someone or something else in the life being eclipsed, but this is likely only if there are other aspects of the dream (perhaps you are riding as a passenger on a bus when you witness the event, or are gathered with others in a crowd, and all are pointing and commenting). Certainly this is a dream image that calls for Self-questioning, and the courage to see what you may not, to this point, have acknowledged or admitted.

when the eye is very badle blood shot

Not astrologically oriented, really, but I loved the spelling, which made me think someone had Googled from the Middle Ages. All I can say is, maybe something very Arian, or Neptunian, happened the night before.

mercury retrograde + people don’t mean what they say

Putting it this way is really wishful thinking, because there’s no reason someone wouldn’t mean what they say during Merc retro; what you’re thinking about, though, may be the tendency people have to later regret or otherwise wish they could take back what’s pronounced when the Trickster’s at work. So, it’s really something the speaker must conclude after the retrograde is over, not something we as listeners should count on to negate something we’d rather not hear spoken during Mercury’s backward motion.

his Juno on my Ascendant

If you’re looking to partner with a guy whose Juno falls on your Ascendant, then this is pretty good news: the way you present yourself is just what he’s looking for. Trouble comes if the way you present yourself is considerably at odds with your most characteristic energies, for example, if your Ascendant is in Capricorn but your Sun is in Cancer, the essence of who you are may vary wildly from who you seem to be on first meeting. Whether this works out well in the end is a question of many other chart interactions, but with his Juno on your Ascendant you’re off to a good start.

Aries Moon in child’s natal chart

Though it’s a time honored tradition in many cultures to draw a horoscope at a child’s birth, I no longer work with children’s charts except in very special cases. My feeling is (and I’ve observed this often) that when we introduce the chart to the parent (and the parent likely has some astrological knowledge or they wouldn’t have sought out a chart in the first place) there is too strong a tendency to read the chart and then read those traits they think they see into the child. I feel it puts a filter on a parent’s perceptions that shouldn’t be there, not if they want to meet their child with an openness to who they are, and a fresh perspective that doesn’t search for or attempt to squash what they feel is negative, or superimpose something they see as positive that may be astrologically recessive, or take a form other than the one the parent visualizes. But, by about the time the child turns fifteen, I would urge every parent to have a look at that chart, especially with the guidance of a competent astrologer who is versed in child development–it can answer a lot of questions, and explain some mysteries, right at the time when the parent needs a little more perspective, and the child needs a little more understanding, in order to collaborate successfully.

location of starry mirror

I have no idea, but when you find it, please let me know.

young boys sleeping nude/ ‘dark of the moon’ nudity

These two searches came up within days of each other, and I found it unsettling that anyone was looking for anything on young boys etc. I don’t have any idea how the first search came to my site, but the second is obviously connected to the Dark of the Moon, those three days preceding the New Moon (conjunction of Sun and Moon) that begins a new lunar month. The Dark period is one for retreat, contemplation, meditation, and a pull-back from action–but associated with nudity? Maybe, if we see the turning inward called for by the period as one of spiritual nakedness, wherein we put aside our social trappings in favor of personal, bare-souled introspection. But, are we more prone to take our clothes off? I have no idea!
