By Pieter Brueghel the Elder – Christian Vöhringer – Pieter Bruegel. 1525/30-1569 Tandem Verlag 2007 (h.f.ullmann imprint) S. 129 ISBN 978-3-8331-3852-2, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=9483474

What’s wise is what we respond to instinctively, we act to fulfill ambitions and find a minimum of obstacles and barriers before us, and we feel knowledgeable and powerful. There is an internal harmony that all else flows from; our job is to make sure that what flows from us is a true and positive expression of our ‘best Self’. Simple, and yet a true challenge, for how do Will and the reality picture reconcile, where does our imperative stop and others’ rights begin, and how do we handle forces within ourselves or from others that are deliberately hurtful or destructive? Your mantra for today: follow the impulse but consider the impact.

(Pallas trine Sedna, Mars semi-sq Saturn and trine Zeus, Venus parallel Mars, Mercury trine Chiron, conj Jupiter, and parallel Pluto)

Today’s word image is a car that completely refuses to start, is in fact totally dead. How low is your battery? Re-charge, before you get to a point of no return.

‘Portrait of the Artist’s Son’ By Eero Järnefelt 1887 {{PD}}

Today ambitions are undermined by things we ‘know but don’t know’, by our own ‘blind spot’ material (especially matters that affect our own or others’ security or comfort), and by an inability, for whatever reason, to trust our own instincts. The perception is that we’re on shaky ground, and the reality may fall anywhere along the spectrum from solid footing to earthquake.

What can we do brilliantly? Think, plan, cogitate, use. our. brains. If the mind can address it, we should spend today doing just that, as ‘actively’ and consciously as possible. Don’t allow physical stillness to trick you into believing you aren’t doing anything–getting plans in place and the facts right is the very best use of your time.

‘The Last Throw’ By Charles Robert Leslie c1840 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a pair of dice. Life really is a game of chance–quit waiting for a guarantee that things will work out as you like. Though I’m in danger of sounding like a meme, I’d say it’s all about the journey–the destination will take care of itself.

27 October 2018 Standards or Achievements?

‘Sea Babies’ By Max Bohm 1914 {{PD}}

Upholding our standards and values, or implementing our Will with little fuss or need to bow to others? The first is a somewhat static position, but a stance we might need to take in order to think well of ourselves, while the latter could send us riding roughshod over the feelings and needs of those around us as we do do do. We can’t both display our standards and achieve, today; even worse, we may find ourselves having to choose between exercising our prerogatives (again, without answering to anyone else), or centering our actions and reactions in our sense of hurt or in a need to offer skills (with a further challenge of matching those skills to what’s needed around us–which we may not be able to do!)

The most effective course may lie in staying attuned to the reality picture, and doing what’s mentally healthy, however you might define that. It might mean eschewing experimentation or refusing to go out on a creative limb in favor of what you know to be the most solid reasoning, the most practical or sensible alternative, or the option least destructive to you, others, and the environment. It may feel like a sacrifice, this putting-on-of-the-brakes, but it’s actually time to re-align our thinking with what’s reasonable, with what’s meaningful in a real world sense, and for at least some of us this may seem tragically lacking in glamor. It is, and that’s the point: we need a solid, healthy base from which to take our flights of fancy, and today is a day that requires we either take steps to secure that base, or we take action, and the need for others or a secure position be damned.

(Perfecting today: Vesta sesq Juno, Chiron contra-parallel Ceres, Mars nov Chiron, Mercury trine Hygeia, Sun sxt Saturn)

Does anyone actually count these, to help them sleep? ‘Sheep in front of haystacks’ By Jean-François Millet c1874 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is insomnia. What does not being able to sleep mean for you? Even if you’re not (yet) in a period of insomnia, it may be time to take steps to insure you don’t get into one–so try to do one or more of the things you find soothing, relaxing, that help you sleep when you need to. Current aspects suggest a certain subtle discord that some may respond to by being extra wakeful–but a little attention will likely prevent this from becoming a truly debilitating possibility.

By George Grie – Own work, [1], Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=3298456

We are still too prone to being misled, to rejecting what’s healthy for what’s practical, or embracing what’s conventionally deemed wise even when it’s not good for us individually. Two things can put us on the right track: hook ideals to creativity and imagination, to keep efforts from going in completely the wrong direction, and think on the actual reality situation as it exists right now–therein is something of genius, waiting to inspire you.

Today is also the Inferior Conjunction of Venus in her retrograde to the Sun. This should mark the ‘low point’ to any review of or stress caused in the life due to Venus’ backtrack. You can start to re-build the Venusian goals here, mostly through concrete responses that are reversible, should you change your mind on direction.

(Mercury nov Saturn, Neptune sxt Vesta, Pallas opp Hygeia)

Today’s word image is an old song, that sounds like it could’ve been written yesterday. And I quote:

“It was a slow day
And the sun was beating
On the soldiers by the side of the road
There was a bright light
A shattering of shop windows
The bomb in the baby carriage
Wired to the radio

These are the days of miracle and wonder
This is the long distance call
The way the camera follows us in slow-mo
The way we look to us all
The way we look to a distant constellation
That’s dying in a corner of the sky
These are the days of miracle and wonder
And don’t cry baby, don’t cry”

For those who don’t recognize these lyrics and the awesome use of accordion that accompanies them, I have a link–

‘Los pescadores valencianos’ By Joaquín Sorolla y Bastida 1895 {{PD}}

The 25th could be the day when what we don’t see could get us. Jupiter opposes Sedna and may suck all the oxygen out of the room; opportunities, chances to expand our world or get the word out, social roles, and unfettered optimism all threaten to ambush us as they distract from instincts and those things we ‘know but don’t know’, those prompts and internal pressures we would normally listen to and follow. We are invited to overdo, to ignore our internal warning system in favor of what we believe are ‘the facts’; the problem is that what we’re framing as facts are actually beliefs, a hopeful interpretation of what bare bones we are acknowledging.

We find a helpful guide at this time in the parallels of Venus and Jupiter to the Black Moon Lilith point. What appeals, promises Love or Money in some idealized form, those opportunities held out to us, will contain hidden things, traps constructed of what we have ignored or denied, or that harbor circumstances which, should we get our way, will only enrage us in their ultimate injustice. Knowing this, we can inspect what attracts with a keener eye, taking the time to really see what’s before us, warts and all. Resolve to notice what you might be tempted to brush aside, and to note all the components of a situation–it’s the only way to make effective decisions we won’t later regret.

Got squirrel? ‘The Squirrel’ By James Jebusa Shannon c1896 {{PD}}

Today’s word image is a squirrel that unsuccessfully tries again and again to get into a bird feeder. What are you relentlessly going after that is never going to pay off? Can you admit this, and put your energies elsewhere, or has this become so much a part of your identity that you’d rather continue fruitless pursuit, just to keep your idea of who you are intact?

See the Full Moon report here–

Charles West Cope ‘The Night Alarm’ 1871 {{PD}}

We are compelled to run into the dark recesses of the mind, the places we’ve been avoiding or in denial of, and we (probably wrongly) believe we can get in and out unscathed. Today we believe in the power of the intellect to surmount or address every issue–silly us! There’s something about those hidden, forbidden, or enraging topics that pulls us in, that makes us run into the burning building, and despite our hair catching fire, we still think we are at one remove, safe, unharmed. Beware the illusion of invincibility, even as you embrace the chance to right something gone very, very wrong (Mars conj Black Moon Lilith, Sun contra-parallel Chiron)

Morse Code receiver and recorder from the late 19th century. Photo By Rauantiques CC BY-SA 4.0

Today’s word image is a future where media–print, dvds, cds, film, video, all ways of recording picture, sound, thoughts–is scarce. For me that would almost be like losing language itself. What would you miss? Would your life be deeply affected, or barely touched, by the disappearance of such material? Now imagine that future world is your brain–are there ‘tapes’ you’d like to get rid of? Would your future be poorer if you were able to erase the painful things, or richer, freer? What ones do you want to make sure to keep, no matter what? Sort through them, and give yourself permission to discard the ones that are negative, painful, or no longer valid, just as long as you have nothing else to learn from them, or don’t need them as important reminders. (This image points me toward the Void Gemini Moon period, or perhaps toward Mars, SN, and BML huddling together in Aquarius, ‘acting to wipe out the past’, plus Saturn-Vesta in Capricorn: ‘What constructs and parts of the past are sacred, to be honored and preserved?’)

Notice the butterfly-like wings peeking out from behind Psyche. ‘The Abduction of Psyche; 1895 By William-Adolphe Bouguereau {{PD}}

We may have some very ‘unhealthy’  or contrary thoughts, but how are we going to respond to them? Will we refuse to question our own assumptions, insisting that our ideas and assertions are sacred, not to be modified even one iota despite intellectual recognition that they are ‘out there’? As our attention turns toward partnership, toward sharing and healing, we’d be smart to accept the unusual quality of our ideas at this time, to exploit them for their originality, their ability to help us innovate and invent, their capacity both to help us express the uniqueness of our individual natures and to help us fit in with or contribute to ‘the group’. We can be wonderful, radical butterflies right now, if we recognize the ephemeral character of what occurs, and the beauty and creativity available if we are flexible enough to take it in, to modify our viewpoint. A special kind of day, one where we can celebrate our uniqueness, if we’ll only open to it. (T-square Mercury opp Hygeia, both square Vesta, Merc also qnx Uranus, Neptune nov SN, Sun enters Libra and opp Chiron)

Today’s word image is just a word: ‘incorrigible’. The basic definition in adjectival form is, ‘(of a person or their tendencies) not able to be corrected, improved, or reformed.’ I’ve always heard the word used in a cutesy way, applied to someone behaving badly that the speaker doesn’t want to punish or judge, but to instead implicate is unchangeable, being themselves, a ‘boys will be boys’ attitude that removes responsibility for behavior and choices from the individual and places it within their nature, as if the characteristics displayed are inevitable parts of the Being, and so must be accepted. Of course, we have a version of this travesty of co-dependent excuse-making playing out before us right now with Supreme Court nominee Kavanaugh and his supporters responding to sexual assault accuser, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford. We may be looking at the battle between Zeus and Pluto in Cardinal square with Kavanaugh’s defenders–ambition and power so ravenous they actually work against each other, revealing the naked desire to obliterate the Truth in favor of bestowing unquestioned power and reach, seeing their desires as sacred. Is there someone like this in your life, someone who thinks their egregious behavior is simply a reflection of their superiority, their right? There’s an old retort I’d like to put to Kavanaugh and his ilk: ‘Have you no shame?’ The answer, apparently, is no, they don’t.

20 September 2018 Superior To What?

‘Still Life with Sunflowers’ 1881 By Claude Monet {{PD}}

Or is that ‘to whom’? The Sun and Mercury meet in Superior Conjunction today, with ‘Superior’ describing Mercury as in direct motion–and so delivering in full bloom what was seeded at the Inferior Conjunction that occurred during Merc’s retrograde phase (around 9 August). This meeting coincides with the Sun-Mercury trine to Sedna; coupled with the conjunction’s placement in Virgo, we can anticipate the SC bringing a message or accounting via results or plans implemented 2+ months ago. Mercury-Sun also noviles Venus, hinting that what we learn may involve either the ‘worth’ of relationships or deal with more concrete financial matters. In either case, we get info that demands a critical assessment of previous plans and efforts.

And here come the more subtle facets of those financial or relationship matters: Venus parallels the Black Moon Lilith point as well as the South Node point, suggesting there are very fine shades to what we learn, and that they echo both the past, and matters we have been ignoring or denying. Those echoes may stir the emotions, as the Aquarius Moon passes over both those points, suggesting one of two outcomes: we may either receive an intuitive revelation, which shows us the way to the next step, or feeling overwhelms, undercutting the information and perhaps flooding us with confusion. Being aware of the latter possibility is key; knowing that can happen can help us re-focus on the facts if it does.

Today’s word image is ‘The Sound of Music’. Having heard this mentioned repeatedly by several different sources within a very short time, I know the image/ idea is sound (ha! see what I did there?) but is also open to individual interpretation. Does the musical spring to mind for you? For me it was literally ‘the sound of music’, as I’ve been to three concerts in the past ten days, and in the same period I also discovered that if I listen to my iPod before bed, I don’t go to bed!! So, for me, this amounted to Self-revelation. For others, maybe it’s about appreciation (‘My Favorite Things’), finding Love or social elevation (the governess marries the aristocrat), losing a particular ‘shape’ to one’s faith (a nun leaves the convent), or escape (“Look–Nazis! Run!”)

Resist technique, probably from India for export, Artist not identified CC0

Why does no one seem to want to cooperate with us? And why are they saying things that they know might blow everything up? And why does the unhealthy thing seem like our only option? Are you still reading, in spite of my whining tone? Here’s what I think: 1) if you don’t seek power, that is, don’t fight, there is no struggle, and 2) think seriously, as if the very thought you entertain is itself transformative–because today it is (Juno contra-parallel Zeus, Saturn sq Hygeia, Jupiter semi-sq Ceres, Merc trine Pluto)

Today’s word image is: a dentist drills and fills the wrong tooth. Let’s cut to the chase: what ‘operation’, project, or effort is aimed in an ineffective, even pointless, direction? There’s no excuse for such carelessness, unless . . . our ‘dentist’ doesn’t care.

11 September 2018 The Trouble With Women

“Drei Grazien” (‘The Three Graces’)1920 By Albert Maennchen {{PD}}

Actually, what we’re talking about is the trouble with strong women, and by that I mean the disruption of the status quo by the sheer fact that there are more women than ever in this world willing and able to hold and express their own power. In this instance it upsets conventional ‘wisdom’ by alleging that women interacting with the world in a determinative way is somehow impractical; of course, it’s really about those in power not wanting to acknowledge the rage and too-long-denied need for autonomy, Self-determination, and for taking up an adequate amount of space for Self-expression felt by the disenfranchised of all stripe. A true presence in the world is something each and every one of us deserves–today is a day during which you can take significant steps to make this happen. Hint: Think Big, and use the facts–they are definitely trending in your favor (Pluto sesq Pallas, Saturn sq Ceres, Sun sesq BML, sxt Jupiter, trine Pluto, Pallas semi-sq Zeus)

The goddess Thetis dipping the infant Achilles into the river Styx, which runs through Hades. In the background, the ferryman Charon can be seen taking the dead across the river in his boat. The scene was painted by Peter Paul Reubens around 1630/1635 as part of the Achilles Series

Today’s word image is the Achilles heel. We all know what that is, right? One’s vulnerable point. We’ve all been injured there, lately–how did that happen, and what must you do to keep it from happening again? The suggestion is that it occurred because of some sort of unconscious extremity on your part–not to blame you, but to point out how inattention can be as injurious as anything inflicted by others.

In case you missed it: the New Moon, and the great attractors in the natal chart. Have a great day!
