Full Moon in Sagittarius at 9:11 PM PDT of the 12th at 22 Sag 05

The Full Moon forms the apex of a Finger of God with base of Jupiter-Sedna, with no other aspects falling within our strict three (at most!) degree orb. This promises a culmination of a matter related to the House in which this FM falls in the natal chart, an ending with a Sagittarian theme. The involved energies, Jupiter, Sedna, and the Moon, in themselves contradict one another: where Jupiter is about accumulated knowledge, Sedna and the Moon are about feeling, especially the kind of feeling that is pre-verbal, instinctive, and reactive; where Jupiter is about sharing and getting the word out, Sedna and the Moon are involved in the personal experience, and those experiences are of the kind that may never be shared with others; Jupiter represents the external and exotic, those things in the world we might visit or learn about, things that expand our Universe, while Sedna and the Moon represent internal qualities and a landscape only we can see and visit. Aligned as they are in a Finger, we can gather that a meeting of that external, Jupiterian, knowledge-based circumstance and the internal, instinct-guided, Sedna-type of knowledge and awareness (which are typically consciously hidden from us and make up our ‘blind spot’) will, if successfully achieved, result in an emotional ending or culmination. Keep in mind, though, that the Moon is also a principal indicator of the passage of time, so that this ending (Full Moon) may not actually have an emotional component, but may instead simply indicate a closing out of a particular period, and so represent the passage of time, or possibly a sense of satisfaction gained by successful utilization of both sides of the base energies.

‘The Repast of the Lion’ by Henri-Julien-Félix Rousseau 1907 {{PD}}

The Full Moon for May occurs on the 14th at 12:15 PM PDT at 23 Scorpio 54. This Full Moon is widely conjunct Saturn, conjunct Earth, and opposed Sedna-Sun, all across the Taurus-Scorpio axis, giving this FM a flavor of finality, the kind we’ve ‘known’ was coming all along, a shadow lurking at the back of our minds. When reading this FM within your own chart, make sure you read it across the pair of Houses in which the FM and Sedna-Sun fall, because this is a culmination that will be active in both arenas—in fact, it may be difficult to tell where the FM falls just by House activity, as there may be as much of an ending in the House opposing the FM as there is in the one where it occurs.

What ends may be something secret, destructive, undermining, or hidden, as the impetus with the FM may be to move in the direction of Ultimate Truth. Our instinctive understanding may tell us what is changing in terms of energy shifts and the unseen world, but we can look for some material echo of this in the House where the FM occurs—here Saturn manifests something concrete that reflects the ending or change we know is coming about.

‘Cornstalks in the Moonlight’ Theodor Kittelsen c1900 {{PD}}

The eclipse of 15 April falls at 25 Libra 15, and is a Full Moon (Lunar eclipse), conjunct transiting energies Ceres, North Node, and Vesta, opposed t Juno, quincunx t Sedna, sesquiquadrate t Venus, and sextile t Pallas. On its own the eclipse suggests a watershed point in partnership, cooperative efforts, artistic endeavors, and in regard to ‘the Other’, everything and everyone outside ourselves. A Full Moon brings an ending, but within this is found a new beginning; this particular culmination/ beginning is amplified by an eclipse, and married (so Libra!) to Nature/ Authority (Ceres), the future (NN), and to an impeccable level of dedication of life energy (Vesta)–it is, in effect, a relational seed point that carries a walloping life force–and this contradicts the kind of puny, Willful, egotistical sense of empowerment that may be found in negative manifestation of Juno in Aries (opposition), as well as causing adjustment to the unconscious (Sedna) and cooperation with what’s ultimately wise (Pallas). The Sabian for this eclipse is, ‘An Eagle And A Large White Dove Change Into Each Other’ This symbolism implies that the ‘other’ focus of Libra involves an actual transformation of one half of a pair into the other, and vice versa; what we are observing or are partnered with, then, becomes what we are.

The Solar eclipse occurs April 28-29 (depending on your location) at 8 Taurus 51, a New Moon that only sextiles Neptune; everything else is outside even a generous orb, with Mercury just days past Superior Conjunction (if this were moving toward the eclipse point I would consider counting it) and Mars, though moving retrograde, outside the orb for a quincunx. That lays it all on Neptune and the Sabian for this eclipse, ‘A Fully Decorated Christmas Tree’. The New Moon, eclipse or not, also indicates new starts; so, we’re looking at a new beginning that may be born of ideals, fantasy, or creative application (Neptune), and that could represent (the Christmas tree) a time of celebration, could usher in an ‘ideal’ period, or present the beginning of a personal creative initiative (birth) or renaissance (re-birth). We’re looking at a pair of factors (the Sabian and Neptune) that describe personal ideals–but particularly with the Sabian, we have to note that the celebration is based on our relationship to the unseen, on faith. It’s not related to any specific religion, but instead on our individual idea of a kind of ‘perfect moment’, the kind that memories are built on and that are striven for consistently in everyday life.

Steel Workers by Winold Reiss c1920 Property of Library of Congress {{PD}}

This Full Moon falls at the midpoint of Mars-Pallas, widely sextile Saturn, apex to a Finger of God with base of Mercury and the South Node, sesquiquadrate Venus, and trine Sedna. With this culmination, we may find ourselves finishing up some smart actions, ones that draw on our past (or on knowledge from the past), communicate it, and by so doing access unconscious and instinctive qualities that we draw into our reality and that thereby help shape it. This likely applies to some project, quest, or effort we see conclude at or near this point, and with only a few exceptions it should bring a good result for all of us. These are things we’ve been trying for, working toward, and if we don’t get what we were aiming for, it’s likely because it’s not really the best thing for us—not an easy thing to accept when we’ve worked so hard.

The wisdom of a Full Moon in Virgo is that the answer to why or why not is in the details; it’s available for examination, open to assessment, and if we don’t see why things have gone as they have, it’s because we’re ignoring the facts, or because we haven’t truly done the work—we’re only telling ourselves we have.

This is from the current ECLIPSE, which can be ordered here—

A little something on the Valentine’s Day Full Moon in Leo, and on the Inferior Conjunction of Sun and Mercury retrograde on the 15th, from ECLIPSE. Happy Valentine’s Day!

Full Moon in Leo 14 February 2014 at 3:53 PM Pacific time at 26 Leo 12

With the FM sextile the Mars-Vesta combo we can expect a conclusion of sorts in what I’m tempted to describe as ‘sacred action’. I suspect this is about coming to a decision as to how we are conducting ourselves, specifically in how we’re employing our energy, in some important situation, possibly in the home or with the mate. It may be a point when we acknowledge what we are or are not willing to do, or when we see that we have reached a point of dedication—we need to commit—and so make a significant statement to the Universe: ‘This is important to me’. It also applies to the setting of a personal agenda that expresses the Self (Leo FM)—we can expect that what we find ourselves committing to at this time will be a feature of our days for some time to come.

15 February brings the Inferior Conjunction of the Sun and retrograde Mercury. This is a point of inception, even insemination, if you will! Something new is planted, and coming just after the Full Moon, we may look at this point as an expression of the new start that naturally follows a finish like the one brought by the FM. Usually we have a bit of a gap, a winding down that allows dissipation of the culminating energy, in the period through to the New Moon—but this time that culmination requires a new start in order to be valid itself—in this case, without the new start that culmination would be a rest stop, rather than an end. That suggests that through to the New Moon we will be nurturing the new start, and part of how this will happen is with reviews, revivals, and other Merc retrograde mechanisms; it will be an Inferior Conjunction that sparks that needed Full Moon start (or re-start!) where the sacred action includes the kind of editing of the life course that is central to taking a successful new direction or making a successful new commitment.

Cancer Full Moon 15 January 2014 at 25 Cancer 58 at 8:52 PM PST: Caring for Power

The Sabian is, ‘Guests Are Reading In The Library Of A Luxurious Home’ This suggests a few things: that we are in the midst of learning something or being informed by what’s going on—pay attention; that our circumstances are really very good, and that we may have downplayed them or may be unappreciative; and that we are currently lacking in a conscious awareness that we are, in a way, guests here on Earth, with all the temporary enjoyment, responsibilities, and need for good conduct being a guest entails. The Sun, which we always look to as a source of Moon-light, is, ‘A Nature Spirit Dancing In The Iridescent Mist Of A Waterfall’ Ahh, Ceres again! With the Full Moon we are being given a chance to experience our own spirits as part of Nature, guests on the Earth, enjoying the beauty and sustenance of a cool mist (for who has been in the lee of a waterfall and not felt replenished by Mother Earth?) and it is only our preoccupation with the material and the spiritually insignificant that keeps us from thoroughly experiencing it as our daily reality. That may be at the heart of the FM revelations—that power we will end up caring for will, for most of us, center in the experience of being alive and fully appreciative of this, though for a few, it will be all about worldly power—when you encounter one of them, just step aside, and go on your way.

The Gemini Full Moon 17 December 2013: All Over But the Talkin’

The Gemini Full Moon occurs on December 17th at 1:28 AM PST at 25 Gemini 36: ‘It’s All Over But the Talkin’’

Our December Full Moon makes two aspects, a trine to Juno and a wide quincunx to stationary Venus. This culmination may carry with it a sense of accomplishment; we are feeling empowered, or have gained status, in some important way, but stationary Venus says we may be stuck: in a relationship, in our sense of aesthetics, with finances, with earning power, with our Art, with what we care about—somehow, we’re in a bind, and it’s just not working, and we likely don’t know how to get out of it.

In Gemini we’re going to want to talk it out, the only problem being that we may find others unavailable to us (the quincunx Venus), and so despite our triumph of empowerment, gaining, status, partnering with the ‘right’ person, or wielding the influence of our position, we may feel anxious and as if this small relationship or financial thing is keeping us from enjoying our win. It isn’t, really, but try telling that to someone who just wants to clear the air!

This is lovely

Just a Little Lunar Essence: the Lunar Eclipse 18 October 2013: I Am

‘The Head of a Woman or Goddess, Perhaps Demeter’ My question was, isn’t that the same thing? Sculptor unknown, Marble, from the Trajanic period 97-117 Courtesy of Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Los Angeles California US

The first eclipse of the set is Lunar (a Full Moon) and falls at 25 Aries 45, arriving at 4:38 PM PDT (and for those of you who are tickled by synchronicities, I called the chart program up at precisely 4:38 PM, so that when I went to the correct day, there was the eclipse, already perfected!) We use, of course, our very strict orbs (that always somehow seem to get stretched!) so that the only aspect made is a quincunx to Ceres.

The singular event for this Lunar eclipse centers on a Full Aries Moon that is in uncomfortable aspect to the asteroid named for the goddess in control of the seasons, of nature itself, and with a powerful sense of territoriality and the strength to negotiate with even the most formidable opponents (in Ceres’ case, that was Pluto).

An Aries Full Moon marks the culmination of personal, individual effort, making a statement of the ‘I Am’ in no uncertain terms; we expect this statement in the natal House where the FM falls, and it’s purpose is Self-assessment, through a lens of completion: ‘I know I am ‘x’, because I have done ‘y”.

The Ceres quincunx suggests that the eclipse event of ‘I Am’ must take into account some power player, perhaps a woman of influence or authority, perhaps simply a human-shaped force of nature, or possibly an entity that feels they have say over our world, to the point of dictating our circumstances or negotiating our permissions, or another with whom we must ourselves negotiate in determining territory and reach. It may be someone from whom we have sought ‘permission’ of one kind or another at some point, who still believes your Self-statement is subject to their approval. It’s one of Ceres’ less endearing traits that someone strongly identified with this role may not clearly see her own legitimate boundaries–and this is something those involved with the lady (no matter what form she comes in) nearly always must negotiate for themselves–in this way contact with Ceres may challenge us to establish our boundaries to others, to announce our territory, or to say what or who we have dominion over–certainly an ‘I Am’ statement of the first order.

To see the complete eclipse report for both upcoming Lunar and Solar events, please subscribe!

Just a thought, morning of the 17th: Should we expect Mother Nature to act up? Maybe–with Ceres in Virgo, earthquakes may be the thing, but does fiery Aries promise lava? We’ll see! Sounds like a ‘scorched earth’ policy, in some important sense.

The Sabians For The Pisces Full Moon 19 September 2013

‘Salida de la Luna’ Guillermo Gomez y Gil 1906 {{PD-Art}}

I’m prompted to add the Sabians for tomorrow’s Full Moon, already seen in ECLIPSE:

The Sabian for this Full Moon is, ‘The Harvest Moon Illumines a Clear Autumnal Sky’ . In this instance, we are the Moon: changeable, intuitive, reflecting the light as spirit, and the sky is, of course, the Universe. We find our place, or at least understand it a little better, illumined in our purpose and function. The Sun’s Sabian is, ‘A Group Of Aristocratic Ladies Meet Ceremonially At A Court’s Function’. This , I think, refers to the Collective Feminine, which is in some ways the ‘civilizing’ influence on the animus. The court, in this instance, is the Universe, but this time we may be referring to Sedna’s role in the Full Moon: she is the intuitive knowing of Woman, the Life-Death-Life force as it manifests in nature and is then organized (the Court, Ceremonially) to the benefit of (Wo)Man. This time it is the experience of all women (‘Aristocratic’ suggesting the nobility of feeling involved) through time that ‘lights the way’ to our understanding, and suggests that for men at this Full Moon, enlightenment will come through his experience of the women in his life, resulting in a deep balance of knowing and feeling for both sexes.

Just a Little Essence of the Full Moon in Pisces 19 September 2013: A Deep Balance

‘The Siren’ by Waterhouse {{PD_Art}} This captures all the elements of the Full Moon: male, female, and the emotional and experiential depths of both Pisces and Sedna

Full Moon in Pisces September 19th 2013 at 4:12 AM Pacific at 26 Pisces 40: ‘A Deep Balance’

With generous orbs we have a Fist of God the apex of which is the Full Moon itself; the base is made up of those old lovers/ adversaries, Venus and Mars. The only other contact the FM makes is a sextile to Sedna. The picture this brings forward concerns a conflict situation that will both have origins in and find responses in a very deep, primal knowing, a balance of man-woman/ anima-animus  energies. This is definitely sexual, in the sense that we are addressing the ‘I Am’ (Mars in Leo) in relation to the sensuality and depth of relationship (Venus in Scorpio). Sedna tells us that this is primordial, going back to origins both personal and ancestral, a story of the forming that lives somewhere deep in our DNA. This is a Full Moon of discovery, a culmination of the experience of sensation as well as the intensity of emotion, and is meant to reveal to us where we stand in the Universe. I know, that’s kind of a big statement, but it centers on our own individual sensations, reflections, ideas, and things felt physically and emotionally, sensed and intuited, that give us identity–and we’re talking from the most superficial to those things so deeply held that they can’t be articulated, only absorbed as knowing.
