The Solar eclipse occurs 9 May 2013 at 5:28 PM PDT at 19 Taurus 31, and like the Aries New Moon that occurred the preceding month, it is closely contained, with all involved parties spanning less than 7 degrees (we have Mars 5 degrees 2 minutes behind the New Moon in Taurus, but even for an eclipse, that seems too wide a margin–however, I am counting Sedna, 3 degrees 55 minutes ahead of the eclipse–of course, with the Moon and Sun moving to later degrees, it only makes sense to give a little more orb leeway in the direction the lights are headed). Everything else is outside our 2-3 degree maximum margin. That means that the square Juno presents to Mars, the South Node, Mercury, Moon, Sun, and Pallas will occur enough before the eclipse that we will see this conflict over empowerment, status, and authority as ‘setting the stage’ for the fresh starts of a NM, and the game-changers of an eclipse. The square suggests we’ll preface the eclipse with a clash that may disorient us, and certainly could take us into the suddenly withdrawn light of the eclipse wondering If we have the strength, authority, experience, or wisdom to pursue this particular path to empowerment.

The eclipse itself conjuncts the South Node, Mercury, Pallas, and Sedna, and makes no other aspects. The result may be a very concentrated energy ‘event’, though that event might extend over a period of hours, with repercussions or influence lasting through to the next Solar eclipse. If a New Moon is a beginning, and a Solar eclipse a point at which the two lights meet and the normally ‘submissive’ or subservient (by virtue of deriving its light from the Sun) Moon supersedes the Solar body temporarily, we may see the birth of something of which we are at first unaware, which may derive from matters on the fringe or from the unconscious. We are assured by the presence of Pallas that what is conceived at this time is guided by wisdom or practical considerations, and perhaps the knowledge we’ve gained in the past (SN)–but we are dealing with material commodities (Taurus) and the lady is a Warrior (Pallas)–so we should not expect a gentle birth. Sedna says we likely bring something up from the depths of which we are currently unconscious–but that won’t last long–and what we may end up with is a message or new ‘thought’ on assets, talents, or material matters that informs our efforts in a fresh direction.

With this Solar eclipse we will, in some form, be contacting depths we’re not entirely conscious of, that naturally arise from the past–so we’re opening that bottled time, so to speak, and letting out something that sends us in a new, Taurean-themed, direction. Here’s an excerpt on the New Moon in Aries from the current ECLIPSE; to see more please subscribe!

10 April sees Ceres sesquiquadrate the North Node and Mercury square Vesta, as well as a New Moon in Aries. The ambiance pre-NM is what I would describe as ‘rebellious’: words are contrary to established values, the home, and the interests of the mate, and resistance to authority figures, Mom, and an inability to see the need to bargain or negotiate is rife. The ether, environment, and the psyche are all disturbed, broken open by the New Moon

The Aries New Moon arrives at 2:35 AM PDT April 10th at 20 Aries 40

The Moon is self-contained, reaching out not at all. Everything is held neatly in just over 3 degrees: the meeting of Sun and Moon, Mars, and Venus. It’s almost like a single beacon, the kind of gathering that would’ve drawn lots of attention in the ancient sky, as so many visible bodies converged. In Aries especially, this suggests individual action for gain or to facilitate relationship, in a very concentrated, mobilized way. It may be that this lights a fire under our sense of initiative, and as well fires up our sense of hope–for that’s what a concerted, focused call to action kindles within. If we respond, we do so out of the belief (even if we aren’t aware of it or don’t admit it) that something positive will come of our actions.

A Little Something on the New Moon in Pisces 12:51 PM PDT 11 March 2013 at 21 Pisces 24

All the Lunar action this time around is contained within one quarter of the flat chart, between the NM in Pisces and its farthest aspect, a square to Ceres. This defines the activity as stressful, and possibly contentious, with the ‘new light’ of the Moon (a revelation, an idea, a new beginning) in conflict with Power and authority, with what up to now has been the ‘natural’ order, and the necessity of negotiation is obvious, indeed. Caught between the two we have Sedna in sextile the NM, and a semi-sextile from Pallas, which we normally wouldn’t count, except that it seems to comment so crisply on developments: we may be unaware of the depth of the power struggle that starts here; it likely plays on some deeply seated natural facets and long-ingrained beliefs about role and conduct (Sedna) that are at the heart of the conflict, though not obvious on the surface, and certainly about which we are likely unaware consciously (at least in terms of how they figure in to the power situation). Pallas tells us that it may be wise to allow this conflict to happen at this time–to smooth things out might push them down to fester for another day, not a good thing at all.

For the complete NM picture, plus lots more, please subscribe. I plan on taking the blog in a much more bloggy direction, with more commentary on current events and people, or general astrology, and less emphasis on bits of forecast or current astro ‘weather’, which is already available in the newsletter. This is a great ‘Wishin’ Moon’–grab a Pisces and maybe your dream will come true!

New Moon in Aquarius 9 February 2013: ‘The Requirements of Our Nature’

The Orion Nebula--Thanks, NASA!

The Orion Nebula–Thanks, NASA!

The New Moon in Aquarius occurs at 11:20 PM PST at 21 Aquarius 43 and squares the Nodal axis, along with Sedna (which is conjunct the SN), and quincunxes Ceres–and that’s all (according to our strict 2 or so degree allowed orb). This suggests that what is conceived at the NM is something we are unaware of, which will speak of the depths of our individuality (Sedna), that will figure in to determining our life course (Nodes), and which will be dictated by our nature, specifically by the Ceres traits expressed by the power we hold, the influence we exercise, our relationships to those for whom we are responsible, the function of negotiation, and our natural environment, to include our own role as a Being within Nature.

We do know it will begin something–and this something will start a ‘learning curve’ for us that will play out in a way that re-defines our sense of power, our influence, our reach, and some of our relationships, with all of it speaking very specifically to us as unique individuals.

December 12th the big news is Venus conjunct the North Node. Doesn’t seem like a big deal, but for some it will make for a definitive moment concerning values, wealth, or relationships. Direction in one or more of these areas will be set. Look to the House where this occurs in your chart, as well as any aspects it makes (from 25 Scorpio)in order to know the possible impact.

New Moon occurs December 13th at 12:41 AM PST at 21 Sagittarius 44

The New Moon squares Pallas and quincunxes Sedna, making no other aspects under a three degree orb, though we might consider a semi-square to Saturn, as this could be a wise choice, giving us our ‘doorway’ into reality for NM energies. Sag is about knowledge and the sharing of such, and in square to the symbol of wisdom and practical skills, and quincunx the ‘blind spot’ of the chart, it could signal a point when what is ‘born’ with the NM energy is something decidedly unwise, a parcel of misinformation (as it doesn’t seem deliberately malicious) that affects our reality situation, possibly through putting up unwarranted barriers, slowing or stopping progress, or repressing some element that was on its way to expression. This is so very contradictory to the typical NM scenario, where we are seeing the initiation of something much more positive, that it’s difficult to believe that a New Moon may leave us in such a problem state–but there it is. The worst thing is we will not realize that what we’re deal with is an unwise viewpoint–and of course that’s where all the danger lies.

A Little Something on the Upcoming Eclipse 13 November 2012: ‘Senseless Sport’

‘Right and Left’ Homer 1909 {{PD-Art}}

New Moon of November 13th at 2:07 PM Pacific Standard time at 21 Scorpio 56 is a Solar eclipse

The Sabian for the eclipse is, ‘Hunters Shooting Wild Ducks’. This suggests something free and wild stalked by, and possibly destroyed by, something predatory–and the something predatory is equipped with ‘arms’ and ‘ammo’ against which the hunted is essentially defenseless. The ‘wild things’ are frightened from their protective cover, made to flee in the hope that they can protect themselves by getting away. Though it may seem obvious, we should note that duck hunting is a very deliberate, planned activity; one does not just happen to take one’s hunting rifle when one is out for a stroll, just happen to flush ducks from their cover, and think, ‘Well, maybe I’ll take a crack at those!’ We must be aware that this may be the underlying state of the previously described conflict (in an earlier paragraph): that the conflict could in fact be one where one party seeks to ‘ambush’, take by surprise, or take advantage of the other. Duck hunting, we must acknowledge, doesn’t very often result in duck on the dinner table–it is instead much more considered, however inappropriately, ‘sport’, and there’s a good chance that if you find yourself as the stalkee, this could indeed be the attitude of the stalk-er. That will make it both very hard to make sense of things, and impossible to drag a reason for such aggression out of the stalk-er; feeling his or her power, they are unlikely to feel the need to justify their choice.

New Moon in Libra 15 October 2012: ‘The Moment of Renewal’

Cartel Tierra, generously released into the public domain by Tavoanguiano

The Libra New Moon occurs at 5:02 AM Pacific time of the 15th at 22 Libra 32

Using our usual strict 2 degree orb, we find only a quincunx to Sedna, and a semi-square to Juno–if we stretch to 3, we are able to add that trine to Vesta, which may be key to understanding the whole thing. A New Moon is a beginning, a dawning, and so may be a point when certain things (indicated by aspects to the NM) are revealed or occur to us. In this case, we may have been dealing with, even struggling, with a certain depth-note of our consciousness, one that applies to our own understanding of the life-death-life cycle and our role in it, specifically in the way we ‘die to’ different aspects of our lives, dive deep in a kind of meditative consideration of what is, then are renewed, somewhat changed from what we once were. This change is always aligned with, even dictated by, our highest values, the Vestal attributes of deep intimate relationship, home, dedication to a cause or ideal, and respect for these. This New Moon is the moment of renewal; we come up from the depths, draw in a deep, healing, re-initiating breath, and we see just where we are, where the changes are, and who we are, now. Aspects suggest that adjustments prompted by our go-deep exploration (NM qnx Sedna) will help smooth out impediments to empowerment (NM semi-sq Juno), and this will be accomplished by living our highest ideals, actually by seeing them shape the ‘new’ parts of the Self mobilized, as symbolized by Vesta.

From the current ECLIPSE, on the New Moon in Gemini:

The New Moon arrives at 8:02 AM PDT of the 19th of June at 28 Gemini 43. The New Moon makes no aspects at all, unless we count a semi-sextile from Ceres, and we do; we need something that tells us what this is about. We must also consider the Sabian Symbol for this NM: ‘The First Mockingbird of Spring’ What these two tell us is that this is all about our ‘conversation’ (Gemini) with nature; and by that I mean, the way in which each of us relates to and is a part of the natural order. This New Moon promises a birth, a ‘new’ role for each of us in relation to the natural world; what role will it be for you?

The gift of the New Moon in Taurus–okay, yeah, it might get a little weird! {{PD-Art}}

Here’s a little of what I had to say in the latest ECLIPSE Weekly about the New Moon in Taurus, occurring at 12:18 AM PDT of the 21st at 1 Taurus 35:

“The New Moon is a point of origin, and in Taurus we are focused on  the material, and on our security, and all that this implies: food, shelter, sex, and death may all figure in to this formula in countless guises. The aspects suggest that the NM will help us strike a bond with nature, that the NM’s light will birth our own most natural power position in the world, and that we will both act to make this felt and act to defend the revelations that come. We can create this in the form of a dream or ideal, if we can stay clear with the reality that already exists; too, with its position in Taurus, the NM will on its own create a new material power position for each of us, one that allows us to express the ‘I am’ in physical terms that manifest in a statement that quite literally has a material component.”

Your clue to the Sabian for this New Moon:

And about this weekend:

For the 20th:

“The 20th sees the Moon hit Vesta and oppose Saturn, infusing the opposition with emotional or intuitive insight keyed to respecting the highest values. This can be very useful ; centering in Love and highest thought will show you where your reality needs to change to fit more closely to your ideals.”

New Moon on the 21st, then on the 22nd:

“On the 22nd Ceres perfects her quincunx to the North Node, Mercury conjuncts Uranus, and the Sun sextiles Neptune; these all carry on the theme of the New Moon concerning power, sudden revelation, and the ideals, but this time those ideals are not the sacred things in life, but the ones we dream of, and the creative power we command to make those dreams reality. Again, we’re seeing the idea of an extended impact of the New Moon, and further, we see that what happens is once again a combination of external events and our creative actions and responses to them.”
