Get ready for a new You–‘They Come’ by Thomas Cooper Gotch pre-1931 {{PD}}

New Moon in Gemini occurs May 28th at 11:40 AM Pacific time at 7 Gemini 21: ‘The Birth of a New Self-Image’

A New Moon in Gemini is very much about a new way of thinking—in this case, with Mercury at 29 degrees and Neptune in the picture, it’s about a new way of seeing ourselves, of having a new Self-image, devoid of the interference of illusion, upon which we can base our thinking. Other than the NM’s square to Neptune, the only other contact is a trine to now direct though still stationary Mars. This promises confrontation that destroys illusions, changes our ideas about ourselves, and that primes us for a new course of action, with the stage for that action likely related to subjects of the House ruled by Aries in the natal chart. Recent events have set the stage for a fresh understanding of who we are, and a new way to think about ourselves in the world; this is very good, bringing a kind of thought-renewal that we are rarely able to apply so completely to our own identity—but this time we can.

The Sabian Symbol for this is, ‘Aroused Strikers Surround A Factory’. Of course we mean ‘upset’ people on strike, not the other kind *wink* But, this somewhat unfortunate choice of phrase brings up a good point: that passion is passion, whether it’s sexual, stoked by rage, or employed in service to creating a higher ideal in the world; it’s intense energy, first and foremost, and we can direct it anywhere we choose (in spite of the impression we give ourselves, that it is created by the object or cause, we really have the passion first, then find what we judge to be a suitable outlet).In this symbol we see passionate individuals mobilized to create change, specifically in (what we can assume) is the workplace; we can translate ‘workplace’ to mean ‘our world’, where we are productive, with the attitude of the strikers the one we must adopt: a willingness to put our passion into action, to call for change, with the New Moon channeling that change-energy straight to ourselves.

5 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Neptune. This is the time for dreaming–or for inattention that can harm or even kill. Stay off heavy machinery, don’t drive–basically avoid everything they tell you to avoid when you take cold medicine! Artists, idealists, prevaricators–jump right in, you’ll be swimming in inspiration and full-blown ideas–take your pick. 8:30 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes Mars. If we ‘own’ our own assertive energies, we are able to deploy them in skillful and imaginative ways; if we disown our assertiveness, we run the risk of attracting anger, aggression, or egotism–unpleasant to deal with, to say the least. Remember, Lunar aspects have a span of influence lasting roughly 4 hours before perfection to 4 hours after.

Today’s image is a clock face with no hands. Though it seems like a cliche, it’s really true that we feel like we have all the time in the world–until we don’t. Just be aware that for us mortal creatures, it’s passing.

The Full Moon for May occurs on the 14th at 12:15 PM PDT at 23 Scorpio 54. This Full Moon is widely conjunct Saturn, conjunct Earth, and opposed Sedna-Sun, all across the Taurus-Scorpio axis, giving this FM a flavor of finality, the kind we’ve ‘known’ was coming all along, a shadow lurking at the back of our minds. When reading this FM within your own chart, make sure you read it across the pair of Houses in which the FM and Sedna-Sun fall, because this is a culmination that will be active in both arenas—in fact, it may be difficult to tell where the FM falls just by House activity, as there may be as much of an ending in the House opposing the FM as there is in the one where it occurs.

What ends may be something secret, destructive, undermining, or hidden, as the impetus with the FM may be to move in the direction of Ultimate Truth. Our instinctive understanding may tell us what is changing in terms of energy shifts and the unseen world, but we can look for some material echo of this in the House where the FM occurs—here Saturn manifests something concrete that reflects the ending or change we know is coming about.

3 AM PDT the Cancer Moon and Jupiter form the arm of a T-square with Uranus-Zeus. Intuition or the feeling nature–likely in an exaggerated form–can inform us as to the correct direction to take between going our own way or cooperating in hopes of fulfilling ambitions. 11 AM PDT the Moon squares Vesta, bringing conflict between feeling and the state of the home, the mate, or a cause to which we’re dedicated. We might need to ask ourselves whether we care as much as we think we do; genuine affection would most likely translate as acceptance rather than upset. 3 PM PDT the Moon trines Saturn, making it easy to contain our affections and give them tangible forms (or clear boundaries). 5 PM PDT the Moon squares Ceres. We find our own concerns are not the same as those of authorities, maternal figures, or those with whom we are negotiating; a quick review of who needs what may be all it takes to straighten priorities out. 9 PM PDT the Moon sextiles Sedna. By caring we access a part of our psyche and sensibilities that is usually out of range–enjoy the insight.

Today’s image is two small birds scuffling in the sky over territory. Most upset is over inconsequentials; make a point today to skirmish only over what really matters, Big Picture.

Post-Solar Eclipse 29 April 2014: The Wave

Are you feeling the afterglow of the Solar eclipse? Are you riding that Neptunian wave (for that was the only significant aspect made by the New Moon), or did the wave come crashing down on you? No matter what, it tossed matters of the natal House where the eclipse occurred, and none of them landed in the same place they’d been before. Most everyone I’ve spoken with is in some way disoriented; the surroundings (Taurus) have taken on a new character, with each individual trying in their own way to connect their ideals with their actual circumstances. This effort will likely reverberate through the coming six months, to the next eclipse set in October, as the Solar eclipse signals the ascendancy of the unconscious, the hidden, the longed-for, and that which meets our needs, in the areas of life represented by the natal House where the eclipse fell. The Lunar influence will be stronger in this House area than will the Solar one, making the subtle and the felt much more prominent than what we perceive with the conscious mind. The challenge may be to allow these normally hidden matters to arise, and then to recognize them as valid, rather than writing them off as coincident or extraneous; when Luna eclipses the Sun, we have a window into the unseen world, and this time, with the involvement of Neptune, we have the opportunity to draw on this and make of it what we will through the creative urge, the realization of ideals, through the power of imagination, and through the information provided in dreams, meditation, exploration of the spiritual, interaction with the Collective, and through the connections our creative faculties allow us to make among things we’re only now beginning to see as related.

Here’s what I said about today in ECLIPSE, concentrating on the post-eclipse atmosphere and the other influences in play:

29 April what we think or say may change everything; be very careful with communications—even thoughts will send out discernible ripples—don’t be surprised if others hear them! Attempts at empowerment may inadvertently wound, actions may be costly or foolish unless we stop and consider things first, and elemental urges (sex, aggression, Love) press us to ignore what’s wise. It’s a day when we may spend the entire time vacillating between being smart and acting out primal spontaneous wants. It’s just something we have to deal with—the best response may be to insist on using our best judgment, with the idea that incorrect thinking will lead to bad choices that will cause permanent effects. (Chiron semi-square Juno, Mars semi-square and Venus quincunx Pallas, Mercury trine Pluto)

Still Life with Peonies by Edouard Manet c1865 {{PD}}

Still Life with Peonies by Edouard Manet c1865 {{PD}}

5 AM PDT of the 20th the Capricorn Moon sextiles Neptune; we imagine what we could build, with a little discipline. A highly productive influence out-of-proportion to the mild aspect itself. 5 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Pluto, opposes Jupiter, and squares Uranus. Adding the Moon to this potent Cardinal T means that we’ll likely read the Plutonian reactions (rage, anger, destruction, transformation, or renaissance) as practical (Cap) measures to deal with the T tensions. That may be an accurate perception, and it may not–what will really count is whether we can muster the emotional restraint long enough to determine whether that Plutonian urge makes sense in the context of the situation we’re facing. By 6 PM PDT the Moon picks up the final arm of the Grand Cross with a square to Mars. Now we are faced with choices or action pertaining to the emotional situation just before; checking with others (Libra) may keep us out of trouble and our options in perspective. 9 PM PDT the Moon squares Zeus and sextiles Chiron-Venus. It doesn’t feel like what’s practical actually serves ambition fulfillment, but the reality is that we’re too quick to see ourselves as vulnerable to losing what’s dear if we pursue goals. With emotional reactions arising out of past hurt, we take a conservative approach, and then wonder why nothing’s happening. A better way might be to make sure that what we pursue builds on what came before; a step-by-step effort may not be speedy, but will reassure us enough to move forward at a steady pace.

The Eclipses of April 2014

'Cornstalks in the Moonlight' Theodor Kittelsen c1900 {{PD}}

‘Cornstalks in the Moonlight’ Theodor Kittelsen c1900 {{PD}}

The eclipse of 15 April falls at 25 Libra 15, and is a Full Moon (Lunar eclipse), conjunct transiting energies Ceres, North Node, and Vesta, opposed t Juno, quincunx t Sedna, sesquiquadrate t Venus, and sextile t Pallas. On its own the eclipse suggests a watershed point in partnership, cooperative efforts, artistic endeavors, and in regard to ‘the Other’, everything and everyone outside ourselves. A Full Moon brings an ending, but within this is found a new beginning; this particular culmination/ beginning is amplified by an eclipse, and married (so Libra!) to Nature/ Authority (Ceres), the future (NN), and to an impeccable level of dedication of life energy (Vesta)–it is, in effect, a relational seed point that carries a walloping life force–and this contradicts the kind of puny, Willful, egotistical sense of empowerment that may be found in negative manifestation of Juno in Aries (opposition), as well as causing adjustment to the unconscious (Sedna) and cooperation with what’s ultimately wise (Pallas). The Sabian for this eclipse is, ‘An Eagle And A Large White Dove Change Into Each Other’ This symbolism implies that the ‘other’ focus of Libra involves an actual transformation of one half of a pair into the other, and vice versa; what we are observing or are partnered with, then, becomes what we are.

The Solar eclipse occurs April 28-29 (depending on your location) at 8 Taurus 51, a New Moon that only sextiles Neptune; everything else is outside even a generous orb, with Mercury just days past Superior Conjunction (if this were moving toward the eclipse point I would consider counting it) and Mars, though moving retrograde, outside the orb for a quincunx. That lays it all on Neptune and the Sabian for this eclipse, ‘A Fully Decorated Christmas Tree’. The New Moon, eclipse or not, also indicates new starts; so, we’re looking at a new beginning that may be born of ideals, fantasy, or creative application (Neptune), and that could represent (the Christmas tree) a time of celebration, could usher in an ‘ideal’ period, or present the beginning of a personal creative initiative (birth) or renaissance (re-birth). We’re looking at a pair of factors (the Sabian and Neptune) that describe personal ideals–but particularly with the Sabian, we have to note that the celebration is based on our relationship to the unseen, on faith. It’s not related to any specific religion, but instead on our individual idea of a kind of ‘perfect moment’, the kind that memories are built on and that are striven for consistently in everyday life.

3:30 PM PDT the Virgo Moon sextiles Jupiter, trines Pluto, and quincunxes Uranus. Transformation or destruction is easy, and we’re tempted to ‘do it big’. Take careful measure as to whether this is an original and essentially creative impulse, or one that arises from rebellion, erratic perceptions, or a wish to lose the Self in anarchy. 9 PM PDT the Moon opposes Chiron and semi-sextiles Zeus. We may resist healing out of the erroneous idea that it could spoil the impetus behind an ambition or desire (for instance, if we believe we must be in emotional pain to be an artist, we wouldn’t want to lose what we see as creative ‘fuel’). Part of the process of healing is realizing that pain does not make us a deeper, more sensitive, or more perceptive person, that in fact it does the opposite, narrowing our viewpoint and restricting our understanding. So, consider letting that pain go.

These two certainly did not follow the rules. ‘Abelard and his Pupil Heloise’ EB Leighton 1882 {{PD}}

8 AM PDT of the 31st the Aries Moon opposes retro Mars and quincunxes Saturn; what ensues may be an emotional tug-of-war over independence and leading the way–and yet motives are confused and people may end up contradicting themselves in the race to be first or to be in charge. The vibe ends up being disconcerting to those who think about who’s saying what; those lacking introspection sail through with nary a scratch. Anyone who wants to win will go the restrained and modest route. Noon Pacific time the Moon sextiles Venus. It’s a good time for an assignation, as long as you follow the rules (Venus in Aquarius). 2 PM PDT the Moon trines Pallas. Emotional wisdom is easily accessible and can guide choice and action at this time in a successful direction. 3 PM PDT the Moon opposes Vesta. We may feel distant from our highest values at this point; enacting emotional independence gives us the impression that we don’t have to put our priorities and obligations into the equation–it would be a mistake not to. 7 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts the South Node and opposes North Node-Ceres. We may take a trip down memory lane, or even actually fall back into old ways, and lose our mojo. Stay focused in the present, and clear about the influence we hold and the territory that is ours, for best results. Void begins at 7:21 PM PDT as the Moon begins to move out of opposition to Ceres; the Moon enters Taurus at 10:21 PM PDT.

I’ve been so busy I failed to update the charts for ECLIPSE in a timely way, but they’re fixed now—also updated what’s in the current ECLIPSE, which you can see here. I hope you enjoyed the New Moon new start–have a great week!

‘The Path Through the Irises’ Claude Monet {{PD}}

10 AM PST the Aquarius Moon quincunxes Jupiter, perhaps tempting us to adjust what we think to what the social order prescribes. Can be a point when the group exerts a tremendous amount of influence on our thoughts and our behaviors (whether we rebel or accept their standards wholeheartedly); as long as we’re aware of this we can respond in a more measured way than we otherwise might. 11:30 AM PST the Moon sextiles Uranus-Juno. Emotions and intuitions aid expressions of uniqueness that lead to empowerment. 6 PM PST the Moon trines Zeus. We can intellectually see a clear path to ambition realization, but we need to remember that we have to back up ideas with action (and perhaps take on a partner, Zeus in Libra). Midnight the Moon conjuncts Venus. We can feel a perfect love or empathy based in intellectual understanding or group membership in common. This could offer a nice break from the natural tendency to critique, and if expressed could win us new friends.
