'Spring Snow' (Shunsetsu) by Takeuchi Seiho, 1942 {{PD}}

‘Spring Snow’ (Shunsetsu) by Takeuchi Seiho, 1942 {{PD}}

A little something for 26 October: Today’s image is a bird splashing in a puddle, even as it starts to rain. Is there some way in which we’re double dipping, in a way? Out of an abundance of caution or enthusiasm we can find ourselves over doing, in a simple attempt to make sure we get it done; we may not realize that, figuratively speaking, wet is wet–once we’re wet, we can’t get wetter! Mars moves into Capricorn today, helping us target action effectively–and hopefully eliminate any duplication of effort.

A little something for 27 October: we come to know the meaning of the old axiom, ‘Knowledge is power’; authority accrues to those who have access to facts and who understand how past development has lead to current conditions. Thinking, however, is decidedly independent of power concerns, and though this leads to a purity of mental expression and processing it also signifies, on the part of those who are mentally-keyed (natally heavy in Air), a susceptibility to follow an idea or place a concept on a pedestal that could have negative consequences for the personal empowerment situation. The saving grace, though, may actually be grace itself, an adherence to the ideal of Love in action that mitigates any potential negatives or losses. Ideals in Love or Money can be advanced and perhaps met; creativity, imagination, and integrity all pay. (Ceres enters Sagittarius, Venus trine Neptune, Mercury contra-parallel Juno)

And for 28 October: The Moon enters Capricorn at 3:04 AM PDT of the 28th. 5 AM PDT the Moon conjuncts Mars. Temper takes some very concrete avenues of expression, and upset may be taken out through material matters, if we don’t bother to hold back. With just a little effort, control of energy output can be both disciplined and productive. 10 AM PDT the Moon sits at the midpoint of Neptune-Pallas. Creative wisdom is channeled through the emotions and intuition; try to preserve what comes to you now, as it will be both inspired and smart. Noon the Moon sextiles Sun-Venus. We see illuminated either relationships or financial situations–and we understand them in a way that makes us sympathetic/ empathetic to their current state. 5 PM PDT the Moon quincunxes Juno. We can sense, rather than ‘see’, what we need to adjust in order to maintain or enhance our own power situation. Believe what occurs to you to do, as it’s the right thing for you, and is supported by sensitivity and instinct. 10 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Pluto and semi-sextiles Vesta. Instincts to get and maintain power are right on, and we may be challenged by a destructive tingle aimed at anything we feel uncomfortable about concerning the home, family, or those things to which we’re dedicated. Consider the way you can change the situation that’s irritating you, rather than eliminating it or some aspect of it.

Constantin Hansen ‘Portrait of a Little Girl, Elise Købke, with a Cup in front of her’ {{PD}}

A little Lunar essence for today, the 15th:

4 PM PDT the Cancer Moon squares Mercury and trines Ceres. Thoughts and feelings are not in harmony, but as long as we are basing things on our connection to Nature, and/ or to our sense of personal authority, all will go well (but for how long, with the mentality dormant or confused and all sensory equipment down?) Don’t worry, we get a ‘new’ handle on things soon enough–’til then, coast. 11 PM PDT the Moon squares Pallas. Why are we so tempted to do something so dumb? Okay, I’ll be more Libra-diplomatic and say, ‘unwise’–but really, dumb–just don’t! Void begins at 12:39 AM of the 16th Pacific time; the Moon enters Leo at 3:30 AM PDT.

And for the 16th:

16 October why does it feel as if what’s smart will hurt if implemented? We’re deluded about what needs to be protected, and our instincts place us in conflict with what we value and what we want. Our thoughts are confused and we may act before we think (or plan)—today’s really the day for dealing with up front issues in such a way that we map out future action, rather than making a move in the present. We have a brief but clear planning window, which relies on our willingness to lay everything out while agreeing not to do anything for now. Special note to artists: creativity may take us down a weird path, and inspiration fails to respect actions we’ve already taken. Be willing to record ideas but forego action on inspiration received at this time—chances are high that the products of creative actions taken now will just have to be scrapped later. (Perfecting today: Chiron sesquiquadrate Pallas, Neptune square Vesta, Venus contra-parallel Sedna, Mercury parallel Neptune and sextile Mars, Sun-Mercury meet in Inferior Conjunction and contra-parallel Black Moon Lilith)

The Daily Word image for the 16th:

Today’s image is a hot cup of tea. Don’t neglect those small rituals that make life enjoyable–when we get busy they can fall by the wayside, and we may find we feel twice as worn without them.

Have a great day, subscribe if you want more (this is all part of the ECLIPSE subscription) and my latest article is still available here–thanks!

Earth and her Moon taken by the Galileo probe 1990 NASA {{PD}}

Earth and her Moon taken by the Galileo probe 1990 NASA {{PD}}

A few bits in this post-eclipse season:

9 October: Merc retro is pulling things we’d rather leave in the past into the present and messing with our feelings of empowerment and effectiveness. Why? As Merc moves backward it pulls things with it like water exiting a drain—and anything left lying around unattended from the past is prime for Mercury to suck, dredge, and serve up. What we see, though, if we look past the sodden mess of Mercury in retreat is our shining ambitions and desires, the pinnacle of what we hope for, high upon the hill; all we need do to reach them is adjust our values and home and mate interactions, just so, allowing us to make both what we have and what we want harmonize. Sweet. (Perfecting today: Juno square Mercury and parallel the South Node, Sun conjunct and parallel Zeus, Earth sesquiquadrate Vesta). Lunar Note: 11 PM PDT the Taurus Moon trines Pluto. You have the power to shape the material world at this point–use it wisely.

10 October: Relationships and finances are calling for adjustment—without the flexibility to accommodate changing situations, we may find ourselves looking at severely outdated interactions sitting in for real relationships, and severely reduced financial circumstances substituting for dynamic earning and attracting. We have the chance to engineer bounty—do it! Take opportunities, respond to circumstances as they are, not as you wish they were, and listen—others are there to help, whether it’s with advice or by example, whether they’ll be showing you how to do ‘it’, or warning you off by their own poor choices. (Perfecting today: Merc enters Libra, Venus quincunx Chiron, Sun sextile Jupiter)

'Seal Rock, California' Albert Bierstadt 1872 {{PD}}

‘Seal Rock, California’ Albert Bierstadt 1872 {{PD}}

Of course, there’s an eclipse in just a couple of hours, but you can read about that lots of places (and if you’re interested in my take, you can subscribe and get it all), so I thought I’d share a bit of commentary on the aspects perfecting today that are unrelated to the Lunar eclipse (Full Moon) that begins at 3:51 AM Pacific of the 8th at 15 Aries 05. My discussion of an event like an eclipse keeps to some tight orbs in order to focus the eclipse picture itself, apart from any other influences in force; that way we can sort eclipse effects from others much more easily than if we throw it all in one basket–and yet, since it all occurs within the same time frame, we can’t ignore that there’s more to the day of an eclipse than just the event itself.

8 October is when I’d like to remind everyone that just because there’s a major aspect in the heavens, it doesn’t mean this will show up in the life; interaction of transiting energies with natal factors is far more important than any transiting to transiting aspect. That said, we’ve got two general whammies here, with the action urge, ego, ‘I Am’ in harmony with the social sphere and/ or gathering in knowledge like a sponge, and possibly successfully expanding the individual reach impressively. At the same time we see relationships hit some dark, destructive, below-the-waterline rocks and we wonder how we never noticed those before. Both influences may knock us off course—or onto the right one, should we have been substituting artificial goals for our natural ones. We may need to withdraw or pull back in order to re-group, but this is both temporary and allows us the space we need to sort exaggeration from useful information. (Perfecting today: Saturn parallel Ceres, while Jupiter is contra-parallel both Saturn and Ceres, Mars trine Jupiter, Venus square Pluto)

Sharing with you the entire Daily for October 2nd. Support the blog and get it all, subscribe!

2 October our ambitions and desires come on strong and possibly take over our efforts; attention to instinct and ‘gut’ feelings must be paid, or we suffer by overdoing, over expanding, or exaggerating and losing our chance—and don’t listen to the social circle, they’ll just egg us on. (Perfecting today: Jupiter sextile Zeus, Sun sesquiquadrate Sedna)

The Lunar Outlook for the 2nd: 1 AM PDT of the 2nd the Capricorn Moon squares Zeus. We may put up emotional barriers to fulfilling our own ambitions and wants–somehow barriers feel safer than giving ourselves permission. For now respect the emotional need. 6:30 AM PDT the Moon squares the Nodal axis and sextiles Ceres-Saturn. We feel we have natural power and authority at this time, but this doesn’t seem to help us deal with our life direction–we are somehow heading for emotional upset, and may find ourselves coping with our own emotional denial so we can handle the friction. Recognize that boundaries are something we must agree to in order for them to have any power, and that laying out the actual, physical boundaries of our own territory may be a very good exercise, making clearer to ourselves better than any other way can just where we do and don’t hold sway. Noon the Moon quincunxes Black Moon Lilith and squares Pallas. We are made uncomfortable by circumstances and matters we’d rather ignore, but we know it isn’t wise to avoid dealing with these. How to handle this? Approach tough subjects with restraint and calm–the Cappy Moon offers support to those who go slow, follow the ‘rules’, and do their best to meet matters in a disciplined way. 3 PM PDT the Moon trines Sedna. Instinct and intuition inform each other, and put us in the perfect ‘space’ to understand completely whatever environment or interaction we undertake. 9 PM PDT the Moon opposes Juno and sextiles Vesta. We may stymie our own empowerment by adhering too strictly to our highest standards; it’s better to bend than break, in the name of moving forward.

Today’s image: cookies and milk. Be on the lookout, for these as a synchronicity marker, or as a delicious snack.

'Ceres' Alice Pike Barney 1901 {{PD}}

‘Ceres’ Alice Pike Barney 1901 {{PD}}

A Little Lunar Essence for 27 September: 4 AM PDT the Scorpio Moon sextiles Pluto. It’s time to purge! –the emotions, the pipeline to intuition, and the Self of secrets that are weighing us down. Just let it out. 10 AM PDT the Moon trines Chiron and quincunxes Uranus. We are attuned to hurt, but if we make a conscious effort, we can turn that energy toward healing, it’s polar opposite–all we need to apply is a unique, original, or unusual approach that allows us to take a view beyond our wounds. Noon the Moon squares Jupiter. Experiences in the social sphere are not the best–stick with what you know, and what you’re sure of. 5:30 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Ceres. We are in touch with Mother Nature, Gaia, our own sense of authority, and can negotiate purely by ‘feel’ should we need or want to. 9 PM PDT the Moon conjuncts Saturn and semi-sextiles Pallas. Restraint is smart–it’s that simple.

And a Little AstroEssence for the 28th: Our priorities and interests seem contrary to those of the social circle, and what info we learn or knowledge we glean may be destructive in its effects or concentrated on gaining or holding onto power. Efforts at expansion and control of others or our surroundings seem to threaten what we truly care about—so we step away, thinking we can avoid a problem, but instead find we’ve misunderstood the stakes involved. Stick to facts and adjust efforts to focus on material changes, results, and solid, working-with-reality matters; assume that you are operating under at least a few illusions, that the worth of things is fuzzy at best, and proceed with that kind of caution in mind. (Perfecting today: Vesta contra-parallel Jupiter and semi-square Pluto, Sun quincunx Neptune and contra-parallel Venus, Earth sesquiquadrate Saturn)

A brief article from the Weekly:

More on Eclipses: Expectations
Too often we approach eclipses as some kind of change-your-luck, reach-the-holy-grail, wash-away-your sins kind of astrological event. They are nothing more than New and Full Moons where we just happen, from our vantage point on Earth, to witness one body blocking another, and so cutting off that body’s light. Is that a big deal astrologically? Yes and no—it can signify big, even Earth-shaking, changes and wipe-outs, new starts and major endings, but we have to get past this idea that this kind of massive re-model of our potentials and our lives will occur at each eclipse set.

It’s really as rare as any other lightning strike or lottery win; we’ll have a few of those scattered through life, but mostly eclipses will represent the more subtle or less monumental changes that are part and parcel of every day living. Too much concentration on eclipses as super-powerful comes too close to endowing them with a magical effect they really don’t (and can’t) have—and it’s not a good way to look at the Universe, as if we are waiting for externals to rescue us, or bring us something mystical or extraordinary that will change our lives—really, we have to do the changing ourselves.

We must also remember that even though we are fixated on certain life subjects, that doesn’t mean an eclipse set will address them; sometimes it does, but just as often it points us in another direction entirely. This is a clue to us that the Universe doesn’t necessarily see our agenda as the important one—and maybe hints that what we are finding important in the moment isn’t really important at all. If you’ll let them, eclipses will help steer you in the direction of what you’re really facing, and what your real opportunities are.

5 AM PDT of the 23rd the Virgo Moon conjuncts Venus and semi-sextiles Black Moon Lilith. Criticism in relationships stems from issues ignored or denied; if anything comes up, recognize at once that this is something that needs to be faced head-on. 7 AM PDT the Lunar influence rests at the midpoint of Juno and Vesta. Empowerment must be balanced with our dedication to important causes, to home, and to the mate–not taking these into consideration risks giving our power to the ‘wrong’ people or causes, or supporting what doesn’t support us. 9 AM PDT the Moon trines Sedna. Instinct flavors feelings; we have a direct pipeline at this point to intuitive knowledge–use it. Void begins at 10:51 AM PDT; the Moon enters Libra at 9 PM sharp Pacific time.

New Moon in Libra occurs on the 23rd at 11:13 PM Pacific time at 1 Libra 07: A Test of Power

The New Moon makes no aspects to other bodies—very unusual. The closest thing we have is a semi-square to Ceres, so we’ll go with that. This suggests that what begins here relates to power expression in the personal life, and specifically to how effective we actually feel in ordering our world and having an impact. The aspect itself implies that this will be a mild but still difficult issue. The one thing we should be aware of is that the likely outlet for this power-testing will be in relationships, especially with the mate or partner, though it’s also possible that we may see new starts of a ‘natural’ variety in the House where the New Moon falls. See the New Moon chart here–just scroll down past the eclipses!

Charles Demuth 'The Circus' (1917) {{PD}}

Charles Demuth ‘The Circus’ (1917) {{PD}}

For 20 September: empowerment at this particular time comes from facing it all (even what we’d rather not), standing up for ourselves and our right to be respected, and involves a willingness to at least question those things we typically consider sacred—they might need a fresh, objective look—and any ways in which we’ve been bending over backward to maintain harmony with the mate or on the home front may also need to be examined. We may have bent too much, thought of ourselves too little—and if we don’t see our needs now, rebellion against those we see as holding power or authority over us may rear its head. What we don’t want to do is fall into patterns of ego or temper from the past—these will get us nowhere in a hurry. Dark of the Moon begins late PM Pacific time. (Perfecting today: Black Moon Lilith parallel Juno and square Vesta, Uranus quincunx Ceres, Mars sesquiquadrate the South Node)

For the 21st: 5 AM PDT the Leo Moon quincunxes Earth. Our surroundings may challenge us emotionally or give us pause. Void begins at 5:48 AM PDT; the Moon enters Virgo at 8:54 AM PDT. 7 PM PDT the Moon creates a T-square by opposing Neptune with both squaring Mars. We may choose or act in spite of a lack of inspiration or imagination–that may leave us very sorry with the results.

Today’s image is a nurse preparing a shot for a small child. Are you anticipating something not-so-pleasant that is meant to be ‘good for you’? Sometimes we make ourselves do things purely out of a kind of superstitious, ritualistic belief that it will protect us; consider the true efficacy of those preventive measures, before subjecting yourself to them.

And on the Sabian for the Lunar Eclipse of 8 October: ‘Nature Spirits Are Seen At Work In The Light Of Sunset’. This reinforces the culmination factor of the eclipse (the sunset) and reassures us that, even if this is an ending for you with no clear-cut new persona yet showing itself, nature is preparing the elements necessary–all you need to do is wait. The conjunction of Uranus to this point emphasizes the spontaneous nature of what will occur, as well as its uniqueness to the needs and personality of each individual

Peter Henry Emerson – The Poacher – A Hare in View c1886 {{PD}}

Noon Pacific time the Cancer Moon creates a Grand Trine with Chiron and Ceres. Emotions and sensitivity (especially that keyed to hurt) run high; issues of authority or territory may drive tension and force emotional displays. The key to balancing it all may be 1) we must really care, and 2) we must feel secure enough in our own power that we don’t feel threatened by others’ needs. If dealing with someone who seems unreasonable, try to offer them reassurance concerning their own security and safety–that’s really what they’re worried about. 2 PM PDT the Moon creates a T-square with the Uranus opposition to Pallas-Zeus. This is Cardinal and so active; tension is likely over each individual’s fear that they either will not reach a goal or ambition, or that they are doing something stupid. Try to keep perspective and realize that getting overwrought doesn’t help resolve anything. 10 PM PDT the Moon squares the Nodal axis and Mercury (conjunct NN) and trines Saturn. Reality is what it is, but we may insist that it’s taking us in a direction it isn’t, and point to our own thoughts and perceptions as proof. Find someone clear-sighted to bounce your thoughts off of. Midnight the Moon conjuncts Juno and trines Vesta (it’s also still squaring Merc). We may be feeling very empowered at this point, swinging-through-the-trees energetic and capable, especially when it comes to surety about our home, what we honor, and our mate. Your perception isn’t wrong, but it may be a bit distorted by our sheer abundance of energy, so proceed with care.

Johannes Vermeer - Lady Writing a Letter with Her Maid c1670 {{PD}}

Johannes Vermeer – Lady Writing a Letter with Her Maid c1670 {{PD}}

14 September what we’ve learned from the past can guide us in adjusting our priorities now; if we don’t use some sort of guideline we run the risk of engaging in erratic, disruptive behavior that risks fouling our own ambitions and desires. Be open to change, even transformation, that’s available in relationships, to apply to finances, and through a general atmosphere of Love—really, accepting the need for reform is the only way to access the treasure—feelings are much more reliable than thoughts at this time—material matters reveal all we need to know and see. (Pallas parallel and Vesta quincunx the South Node, Mars sesquiquadrate Uranus and semi-square Zeus, Venus trine Pluto, Mercury contra-parallel Venus, Earth quincunx Black Moon Lilith)

Today’s image is a letter, addressed and sealed, never intended to be mailed. Do you have something to say to someone and it needs saying, for your own peace? The reality is that if we believe that the only closure comes from expressing our feelings directly to someone, then we’re not talking about expressing, we’re really hoping for a reaction or to engage with them–we’re not looking for peace, we’re looking for enmeshment. If you have something to say, say it–to the air, in a letter, shouting from on top of a mountain–and then let it go. True Self-expression doesn’t need an audience–and as that old saying goes, what we think of someone else is none of their business.
