‘La nuit au léger brouillard’ By Félix Vallotton, 1913 {{PD}}

The Full Moon perfects at 9:31 PM Pacific time at 21 Pisces 04. The Earth and Moon have recently conjoined Neptune, and are still within orb of the planet; the FM also occurs sextile Pluto, widely opposed Mars and with large orbs square Jupiter (and so forming a T-square with the latter two bodies). A Full Moon promises endings, conclusions, or the cessation of something, and in this instance, the sextile to Pluto suggests that what occurs either fosters change or arises from it, likely referring to a dream, an ideal, a deception, a misunderstanding, an inspiration, or some other Neptunian factor that comes to an end. The ending may come from conflict with the larger social circle, from facing hard facts, or possibly the ending is necessitated by the intractability of our own beliefs (square Jupiter). Efforts to reach out, publish, broadcast, expand may have met problems, turning our attention in another direction–in this instance, causing us to either shed a dream, or cut through the fog of delusion or deception, seeing at last the hard facts of the matter.

Then again, with Neptune conjoined the Full Moon, what occurs may be hidden, obscured such that we may be forced to act (Mars) without understanding what we’re doing or why we’re doing it (opposition Neptune)–or will we choose to remain frozen, not comprehending what’s happening? The Mars opposition Neptune-FM suggests this inability to know what to do is only compounded by the proximity of Mars to the Sun, the implication being that something else gets the lion’s share of attention, obscuring our choices or actions, or even blocking awareness of our own wants–and so we act or choose unsure of what’s finished or what it means, unsure of our part in it, or our choices going forward. That explanation’s a little confusing on its own, and probably not very reassuring, either, though it is important to know that it all comes down to knowing that we can’t know, we can only try to pick out the shape of things by looking at areas other than those actually creating the impact (the Full Moon). It’s like watching shadows and trying to guess what’s making the shapes; we can be right on, or totally mislead.

One thing of note that may offer some clarity is the Mystic Rectangle in effect, which includes ruler of the FM and the nearly exact Mars-Neptune opposition. Currently this consists of South Node-Saturn, Neptune-Black Moon Lilith, Mars, North Node. The implication is that this synergy blends realities or restrictions of the past with those dreams, creative goals, or ideals we’ve rejected or ignored (likely as too difficult for us to achieve on our own, considering the other elements of the Rectangle are Mars and the NN). This suggests that at this Full Moon time we should be looking at discarded dreams, reassessing them for viability, especially since the social sphere or the facts will show us the hard reality at this time (FM sq Jupiter)–and that means, we might be able to put them to bed once and for all, or go after them once again, if we recognize that it’s not only not too late, but that we really are equipped to go after what we dream of.

That Sabian for the Full Moon is, ‘A Prophet Carrying Tablets Of The New Law Is Walking Down The Slopes Of Mount Sinai’. Spiritual conviction takes many shapes; this Full Moon may clarify something about the ways we should or shouldn’t put those convictions to use, with the FM promised resolution bringing fresh insight to what’s most deeply meaningful to us at a spiritual level. This could involve a new dedication of our energy, a new intent or ‘law’ put into practice. We also look at the Sun symbol for a Full Moon: ‘A Royal Coat Of Arms Enriched With Precious Stones’. The source of the FM enlightenment may be our own striving to ‘rise above’, to attain a kind of nobility, or to simply become ‘cream of the crop’ in some area (likely related to the House in which the FM falls in the natal chart).

By Honoré Daumier c1868 {{PD}}

What occurs at this Full Moon eliminates something, reveals the Truth of a matter, and allows us to re-connect to an old dream or spiritual intent–and all while we at best wander a bit, and at worst tilt at the wrong windmill.

15 August 2019 Full Moon in Aquarius: Cost/ Benefit Analysis

Vandenis (Aquarius) in the twelve-paiting cycle Zodiakas (Zodiac) By Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis 1907 {{PD}}

The Full Moon occurs at 5:29 AM Pacific time at 22 Aquarius 24. Venus is still closely conjoined the Sun, and so figures in to the T-square formed by Vesta in Taurus. This dynamic describes the principle tension and likely revelation (or revelatory tension!) of the Full Moon event. A Full Moon is a culmination of energy, a building to completeness of some matter either related to the House where the FM falls or that has the character of the sign in which the FM perfects, and typically this has a strong emotional component. A T-square suggests conflict reaching a head, leading to either a showdown or an impasse, a ‘no resolution’ situation that we can only see a way out of after the Lunar event, likely by, in this case, following values and commitment guidelines.

In Aquarius we could come to some emotional conclusion without even realizing it, and yet not really feel it. Aquarius is forever mixing up the mental and the emotional, and the event or atmosphere associated with this Full Moon may not be recognized as an emotional ending, though the emotions will be stirred. The mind may jump in, rationalize, or may attain a mental understanding that neglects the emotional impact (and so neglects the individual emotional needs). Distance from feelings is a distinct hazard. We may not realize ‘it’s’ over, in some way–or we may not realize that ‘it’ can’t go on like this, despite the Aquarian promise of its Fixed nature, that encourages us to believe things can go on as they are, indefinitely.

This Waterbearer looks at first glance like Libra. Aquarius bronze and glass grille figure, National Academy of Sciences, Washington, D.C. Photo By Carol M. Highsmith {{PD}}

The tug-of-war this time may be between some feature of the talent or Self-worth picture, in the form of its value or cost to the Soul expression (Sun-Venus in Leo) versus an emotional-intellectual need that has a material component, or that involves surroundings or assets (Moon-Earth in Aquarius). What we spend and what we gain when we express ourselves may see direct reflection (a Moon characteristic) in material/ physical forms (Earth conjunction), and will carry an emotional charge–and the Full Moon’s function may be to make this as clear as possible by showing any dissonance among these elements of expression, material results, and the feeling nature as measured against our highest values, commitments, and those things we find sacred (Vesta).

There are no other contacts to the Full Moon that fall within our relatively narrow allowed orb. That just points out that the entire ‘punch’ is in the dissonance of the T, not scattered or watered down with many influences. You’ll likely end up running a cost/benefit analysis with values as your guideline, prompted by the Full Moon, and what you conclude may have an outsized impact on the forms Soul expression might take or the value you assign to the identity, with an emotional and material assessment of the profits possible or the costs incurred a key part of the equation.

You may come face-to-face with an inner or an outer ‘bear’, and you’ll need to deal with it. By John Bauer 1902 {{PD}}

The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon is, ‘A Big Bear Sitting Down And Waving All Its Paws’. The thing that draws your attention at the Full Moon is, as the saying goes, ‘a real bear’, that is, something truly troublesome or difficult to handle that you can no longer ignore. As a symbol, a bear suggests something big, animalistic in nature, that is already present but that you’ve been looking past, ignoring, that you’ve been denying the needs, nature, or existence of. Astrologically it may be represented by the asteroid Vesta; it may show there’s something we respect that we’ve been neglecting, or something that we need to respect, that we’ve somehow failed to honor–and certainly, what we honor is meant to show us a way out of any stress brought on by the Lunar event.

The Sabian for the Sun (and for Venus as well) is, ‘In A Circus The Bareback Rider Displays Her Dangerous Skill’. This suggests that it’s our own actions or displays of talent that create the Full Moon situation in the first place. Something daring or out of the ordinary, something we’ve attempted, is the initial source of the Full Moon event energy, and this is specifically a try at showing our skills or talents, at putting them before the audience of ‘The Big Top’–that is, showing our talents in a public venue,or showing them openly, for all to see. Look to the House holding the Sun-Venus to help you pinpoint the nature of this effort, and look to the House that holds the Full Moon for clues to the life area that offer a response to this effort, with challenges coming from, or issues pointed out, via persons or matters of the House that holds transiting Vesta (which sits at 22 Taurus 38).

Good day to . . . see what you must deal with in order to bring your unique talents to the fore and so create/ attract Love or Money. This is an ‘information’ day, one where, if you’re paying attention and ‘want to know’, you can gain an enormous amount of useful data, especially about how and where to ‘put yourself out there’.

For those born with the Sun at 23 Leo. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). This solar year, dear Leo, may be headlined, ‘Pursuit of Love or Money’. It may also be an emotionally stressful year, one where you feel you must ‘do or die’, or where the emotional reality meets a turning point, such that it changes dramatically. So, the pair of matters, emotions and those things pursued, are likely to swallow up most of your effort and attention, and you should know, they’re meant to–a narrowed focus may be the only way you can deal with getting what you need, with finding worthwhile reward, and with creating the relationships you really want, so don’t let others label you selfish–this year you deserve to live about you and for you. Good luck!

17 June 2019 Full Moon in Sagittarius: Denouement

‘The Banquet of the Officers of the St George Militia Company in 1627’ By Frans Hals {{PD}}

The Full Moon, at 25 Sagittarius 53, occurs at 1:30 AM PDT, and is apex to a Finger of God with base of Juno-Sedna–which sextile naturally catches the Sun, currently parallel to Mercury, at its midpoint. The only other viable contact is the Full Moon in (very) wide conjunction with Jupiter, its ruler. A Full Moon in Sagittarius brings a sense of ending, completion, or denouement, but one filled with optimism, that possibly presents new opportunities, and perhaps one that reveals needed knowledge, information, or ‘facts’, and these may either offer new directions to the individual or show precisely why the situation is viable no more.

Every Full Moon is a Moon-Earth conjunction, and this points up the way there is typically an emotional conclusion and a material one. Either we have a feeling reaction to what ends, or our feelings bring about the end of some physical situation, but in any case, there is both an internal experience and an external one, though certainly, the impact for one or the other varies with the individual. Some will feel the event is solely internal, others only external, but it benefits us to look at circumstances and try to draw the thread that connects our emotional state (of which we might not automatically be aware) and what’s happening, especially what’s coming to a close, around us physically.

The Finger suggests that what concludes arose from stress, in the clash between our status or a role that empowers us or where we can express ourselves, and our own instincts and our inability to follow them. Somehow our responsibilities, especially if we feel a certain amount of resentment or anger surrounding them, may be the foundation for this; our denial of those instincts, of our own needs or wants, is too powerful at this point to be dismissed–and so the events of the Full Moon appear, as the psyche manifests before us, possibly in exaggerated but also in informative ways.

We need to exercise caution: we may be acting from our ‘blind spot’, from some area or on some issue that we believe we understand or have dominion over, though in reality we don’t. We might also be mustering our instincts out of hurt or vengeance–remember, Juno didn’t take that disrespect dished out to her lying down.

The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon is, ‘A Flag Bearer In A Battle‘. The flag bearer is essentially a non-combatant, even though this individual risks just as much as anyone else out on the battle field. We may feel that we are simply a standard bearer, that we are ‘letting everyone know’, and so not really involved in the battle–and this tells us that’s a false perception, likely offering us a false sense of safety. And maybe that’s what we learn with the Full Moon events: that we can’t hold ourselves separate from the tumult around us.

The purpose of a flag bearer in battle is to help orient the soldiers to where their forces are gathered, and to how far forward, or how much in retreat, they are at any one time. So, for some of us this Sagittarius Full Moon may be a marker of sorts, one that tells us how much progress in ‘the fight’ we’ve actually made.

Dominique Lang ‘Matin d’hiver’ 1916 {{PD}}

The Sun, always vital in a Full Moon scenario (how else would the Moon shine?) has the Sabian, ‘Frost-Covered Trees Against Winter Skies‘. This suggests to me that Full Moon events were either set in motion last winter, or if we look carefully, we will see their origins there. At the time we may have had the impression that related matters (maybe even our feelings) were ‘frozen’–now we know they’re not.

No matter what happens at this point, we learn something, facts or how we feel–that’s the beauty of Moon in Sagittarius.

For those born with the Sun at 26 Gemini. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). This solar year for you, dear Gemini, may bring some a number of endings, especially emotional ones, and it may ask you to find a role in life that both empowers you and allows you to show and make use of your vibrant inner life. That’s a tall order, when most of us are just trying to make a living, but you have the capacity this year, through to your next birthday, to create/ find the perfect spot for you. As a natural consequence, this will change many things in your life, but I’m guessing you’re more than ready to show more of who you are, even as you heal your sense of yourself as a unique and interesting individual. Good luck!

18 May 2019 Full Moon in Scorpio: Sip From The Cauldron

‘Still Life with Copper Pots’ By Martin Dichtl 17th century {{PD}}

If you’re looking for the forecast for the 17th, it’s here–

What happens when assertive energies, frustrated by their place in a sign that requires feeling instead of doing, contact a dark point where one may hide what is ignored or denied, and this meeting coincides with Love or Money delivering accident, shock, or revelation, simultaneous to a Full Moon in Scorpio that ramps up the feeling atmosphere to 11, with that Moon precisely opposed (only 30 minutes variation) Sedna, harbinger of difficult-to-access knowledge, instinct, and our own blind spot? Well, we’re going to find out, aren’t we 🙂

The day threatens to be a hot mess, one created by our actions driven by what we’ve ignored or denied, or by an unacknowledged rage, one where our relationships or finances hold the power to shock and surprise, to rob us of our usual understanding through sudden developments or information delivered in a flash or by (or through) accident. Our attention will be on what we instinctively respond to, but the clarity of our perceptions is dependent on Self-knowledge; if we are operating in our own blind spot, our only way of knowing is to read the faces of those around us, and hope that someone will tell you what everyone but you knows.

The Full Moon perfects just a couple of days before the Superior Conjunction of the Sun and Mercury; this is our first clue that the emotions and information in the atmosphere will be liminal, not entirely conscious, and not entirely available to the conscious mind, even one that is seeking it. Our second clue is in the fact that it occurs in Scorpio, the sign of the dark, the hidden, the subtle but deeply felt. The third is in the Full Moon’s opposition to Sedna, the vehicle for our instinctive nature, for what we ‘know but don’t know’, and for the folly of those areas we think we understand, but don’t.

Forming at 2:11 PM PDT at 27 Scorpio 38 on the 18th, the Full Moon, as mentioned, opposes Sedna as well as Mercury, reiterating the idea of information, messages, communications, knowledge that we may feel but may not have access to (though both Sedna and Mercury are posited in Taurus, suggesting a way in to that information through the sensory world, if we can allow a feeling state without demanding the brain translate).

Keeping tight orbs, we also see a sesquiquadrate to Juno in Cancer. Aha! We’ve found the culprit–that is, the one detail that can elaborate on what it is that’s happening behind the scenes, that thing we are feeling and trying to suss out, with little success. It’s all about our personal empowerment, feeling we are both free and equipped/ competent to handle what comes, and the blow back we get from those who want to keep us, for one reason or another, in the dark about our own potentials. The reasons these others want us to remain unaware may not be nefarious, but in some shape or form our uncertainty, dependence, or lack of awareness will serve those others. We’re feeling this friction at the Full Moon, and being presented, particularly in matters that span the Scorpio-Taurus axis of our natal chart, with issues that need to come to conclusion, to be dealt with once and for all. We’ll all be dealing with darknesses that need to come to light.

Other contacts offer details. The Full Moon is semi-square Pallas, either suggesting that something unwise is the trigger to discovery, or that our initial response to what we see at the Full Moon is an unwise or impractical one. The Moon is also novile Zeus; that suggests that somewhere in the Full Moon events is a clever answer to some ambition fulfillment dilemma.

All this occurs as Venus meets Uranus and Mars trines Black Moon Lilith (with some of the possible effects noted in the first paragraph). In particular, this may be a recipe for shocking surprise in relationships, as each acts according to what they are trying to avoid, or what stirs anger, a sort of unintentional lashing out that has roots still very much alive but buried, and so convincing us that we’re ‘over it’.

The key is to control the brew (previously referred to as a potential “hot mess”) so that your sip from the Full Moon cauldron is transformative, is re-making of the House matters where it falls, or of some Scorpionic situation in your life.

The Full Moon Sabian is, ‘The King Of The Fairies Approaching His Domain’. This is an empowerment image, one meant to imply that Full Moon events do happen within our domain (and that’s so even if others insist this isn’t our territory); it’s also meant to point out the role of a ‘light touch’, to reassure that we are in charge, and to suggest something slightly magical or otherworldly in events.

We also look at the Sabian for the Sun as the light source of the Full Moon. ‘A Woman, Past Her “Change Of Life”, Experiences A New Love’. I’ll just go with this: It’s never too late.

Bonus: If you have a natal placement at 18 Virgo or no more than two degrees either side, this fills in a Mystic Rectangle with Neptune and the transiting Nodes. The Full Moon may inspire creative or other real-world efforts that will be life-direction changing for you–just don’t let yourself fall for an illusion, because that, too, could be life-changing.

Setting the table for your year ahead. Art by Peter Ilsted {{PD}}

For those born with the Sun at 27 Taurus. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–together these offer a more complete picture of your year ahead). You are one with the senses and instincts this year, dear Taurus, in a way that can guide you successfully, but that also may allow you to blunder into situations unaware of the true lay of the land. How to listen to guidance without becoming victim to the pitfalls? Be searingly, gut-wrenchingly, no-holds-barred honest with yourself about what you want. Mistakes can only flourish in an artificial environment that is created by artificial thinking, pretense, and perpetuation of a false image. Accidents that affect relationships and fortunes may be the rule rather than the exception this year, and some of these, whether they seem positive or negative, will offer you the chance to heal some long-held wound. Good luck!

Anaretic degree, astrology, Born Today, Finger of God, For those born today, Full Moon, Moon in Libra, Mystic Rectangle, Sabian Symbols, The Lunar Essence

By Hans am Ende – http://www.kettererkunst.de/, Public Domain, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=69337605

The Full Moon falls at 29 Libra 06 at 4:11 AM Pacific time. A Full Moon in Libra promises an ending, culmination, conclusion, or end of a phase, probably keyed to a relationship or to many relationships, as the individual assesses their part in a larger, group picture. We see some dénouement occur with a partner or spouse, or even in a situation with an enemy, and this opens a way forward. Cooperation and diplomacy may start or stop, and events at this time may show us, most importantly, who’s on our side, who’s not.

Falling in an anaretic degree, this Full Moon is under stress; the FM fills in an Air Grand Trine with Juno and Black Moon Lilith, pointing toward Full Moon events as a safety valve or means of balancing emotional and mental issues around empowerment and what we have chosen to ignore or deny. The FM is also apex to a Finger of God, with base of Venus sextile Sedna, which suggests that what culminates now is a combination of instincts and values, that kind of automatic response that springs from a prompt generated by what we care about. It seems we’ll be driven largely by what we’re only partially conscious of, with the FM showing us, in big, bold terms, the results of such a stance.

There’s also a loose Mystic Rectangle–or rather, a tight MR except for one loner, expansive Jupiter–everything else sits at 29 degrees of their respective signs, implying that a Jupiterian event or figure comes along and lights the match to the Full Moon, Juno, and the Sun. In his own sign and newly retrograde, Jupiter may be the key, the attitude of overdoing, the hubris, the god-like individual, the casual imposition of the Will onto others, the exaggeration, the facts or beliefs used as a bludgeon.

The FM also opposes Hygeia-Uranus, both of which are within orb of the Sun as it approaches. This implies there’s an element of surprise, alarm, shock, or a group or avant garde influence–and is this a healthy thing, something we need to see, know, or understand, or is it detrimental, shaking up the world we think we know and so undermining our place in it?

The Sabian symbol for the Full Moon is, ‘Three Mounds Of Knowledge On A Philosopher’s Head’. I take this as a reference to the massively unscientific practice of phrenology, the study of the bumps and lumps of the head, and the mistaken idea that we can measure the level of someone’s wisdom and sophistication via this discredited methodology. It suggests to me some dodgy practice we engage in that serves to support our own assumptions and beliefs, rather than to reveal or clarify reality, even if that’s only the kind of Self-talk that has us looking for answers and yet insisting we can measure the validity of those answers with the very brain that came up short in the first place! Maybe it’s the superstitious reassurance offered by a lucky token, the Self-seriousness with which we approach our spiritual study or practice, the insistence on not stepping on a crack in the sidewalk (‘you’ll break your mother’s back!’) or the kind of thinking that labels some life elements as ‘spiritual’ and others not–these and many other versions of our ideas of ‘right living’, both minor and major, may need to fall by the wayside in order to allow a more objective perception of reality and the way the Universe actually works. For those longing for a more traditional interpretation of this symbol, I found a good one here, but would caution: always looking for the high falutin’ explanation of something is an example of exactly what I’m talking about.

We also inspect the Sabian for the Sun in a Full Moon scenario: ‘A Duck Pond And Its Brood’. This suggests that the origin of all this FM tension may be a group or familial situation, a Tribal attitude or expectation, perhaps, one that comes from being part of any group and while being in their ‘habitat’. That kind of situation can make it difficult to see circumstances any other way, between the force of habit, the influence of all those around us, and the ‘world’ (the pond) that seems to support only this one way of interacting. This symbol simply points to the way what falls away at the Full Moon may have been with us since early days, and may be, rather than something we’ve chosen, some old hangover from a scenario of which we’re no longer a part, or at least where we don’t play the same role we did when very young.

The product of this Full Moon, when all’s said and done, seems to be the ending of old, outmoded, misleading, and unproductive ways of interacting with ourselves, others, and the Universe. If we’re seeking clarity, and even if we’re not, the events of this Full Moon will help us find a little more of it.

For those who have the natal Sun at 29 Aries. Check your natal chart for the correct Sun degree (you may want to read both the degree number and the one that follows, if you have minutes on your Sun position–that offers a more complete picture of your year ahead). Something comes to fruition this Solar year, dear Aries, something that you’ve been working toward completing and have devoted a great deal of your energy to–even if you haven’t done so consciously.In fact, your job this year might be to become as conscious as possible of not only what you’ve set in motion, but how you can best respond and so direct the developments in your own life. It could be a time of revelation, particularly in terms of you seeing just how much sway you truly have. No longer can you say, ‘If I had my way, I’d . . .’ because you’ll see that you already do, and it’s all within your power. Good luck!

‘La répétition de chant’ By Edgar Degas 1888 {{PD}}

There’s a Full Moon as the Earth slips into Libra and the Sun into Aries, the culmination occurring at 6:43 PM PDT at 00 Libra 09, with the Moon-Earth quincunx Uranus and opposed Chiron, the latter of which the Sun is moving toward conjoining. It’s a very simple Full Moon picture, but not necessarily a direct one; the quincunx speaks of the need for adjustment, to the unexpected, to revelation, to sudden understanding, to the standards of Higher Mind, to the academic (rather than real-life) requirements of a situation. In some way, what we’re not looking out for comes along and creates the need for our response–and that is something coalescing with the arrival of the Full Moon, an attitude or realization that only now becomes fully formed, and may only now be graspable–and it presents either fresh injury or the chance to heal from an old one.

The Sun at the Aries Point (just as it crosses the equatorial plane on its way North, marking the spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere), opposing the Moon in Libra, both at 00 Cardinal and so at liminal point in the zodiac, suggesting that the Sun’s position points to a change in us as individuals, where we bring something within us into manifestation, with the Full Moon in Libra showing a kind of result of that, as our ‘I Am’ statement is translated into a change or development in our relationship to others. This shift may be brought forward by that unexpected event or response, or the unexpected development may spring from our ‘I Am’ call and response; in either case, it presents a Chirotic moment, one wherein we can access healing, or hold more tightly to new-found hurts, all depending our your point of view.

The Full Moon Sabian symbol is, ‘In A Collection Of Perfect Specimens Of Many Biological Forms, A Butterfly Displays The Beauty Of Its Wings, Its Body Impaled By A Fine Dart’. In my mind, the beauty of any such image is quickly overwhelmed by the static nature of the display, by the fact that the living thing is only so closely observable because it’s dead. Think in large terms: are we looking at a relationship that may have some lovely qualities but that in fact is lifeless, trapping the participants in a situation not just of immobility, but of an inability to even respond, offering no chance of changing or leaving? And, even more important, do we even want change in this regard?

The Sabian for the Sun may help: ‘A Woman Just Risen From The Sea; A Seal Is Embracing Her’. This symbol is pure Sedna (and if I used bigger orbs, we could count a wide out-of-element trine of the Full Moon to Sedna in Taurus). As such this points to the way the current, static relationship has arisen directly from our own instincts and inclinations, from what we sense and ‘know but don’t know’, and may have been specifically designed to show us our ‘blind spot’. Paying clear-eyed attention to what we see at this time is paramount to getting what we need from Full Moon events.

Don’t look for solutions in this Full Moon; listen instead for the response the Universe offers to your personal ‘call’. This marks a subtle but vital shift in both the identity ‘statement’ we make in the world and the way that affects our relationships. If you see the effect as you being the same but others suddenly reacting differently, look more closely: you’ve changed.

The day also sees a trine between Mars and Pluto, and a sextile between Mercury and Saturn. These offer the energy and strength to make your move, and the mental stability and attention to real-world circumstances that will make that move truly effective.

Setting the table for your year ahead. Art by Peter Ilsted {{PD}}

For those born with the Sun at 00 Aries (check your natal chart for your Sun degree!) What’s ending right now, at birthday time, and what’s beginning? It may feel disorienting, like the world is shifting beneath your feet, like you don’t really know any more who you are, and particularly who your friends (and enemies) are. This is actually a good thing; it’s time to re-orient yourself to the world. Things aren’t like they used to be, and neither are you, and a re-tooling of attitudes, behaviors, and even instincts is necessary if you’re going to stay a part of the scene–to do otherwise is to step out of the stream of life, and we don’t want that! Attune yourself by defining what it is you care about. It’s not going to take much more than that to bring you some stellar benefits this year, through to your next birthday, though it would be smart to also take advantage of the ease with which you can purge yourself of otherwise difficult past conditions.

‘The Heart of a Volcano Under a Full Moon’ By Jules Tavernier 1888 {{PD}}

I think we might all need this forecast a little early, so here it is.

The Full Moon perfects at 00 Virgo 42 at 7:53 AM PST, sextile a 29-degree Pallas in Libra, sesquiquadrate Saturn, quincunx Chiron, and trine a 29-degree Uranus in Aries and Mars in Taurus, and square Juno (a T-square with the Sun-Earth-Moon axis). If we thought we were going to get a definitive ending to something, we may find instead that we get a setting-straight, or maybe a dressing-down, a full accounting that shakes off all illusion and calls us on the carpet to defend our use of our own power, to stand up for our choices, and to verify the effectiveness with which we’ve carried out our roles. It’s not pretty; some make the unwise move of throwing partners under the bus, feeling they have no choice, while others rebel against all responsibility, insisting they can’t answer for themselves, much less lead others, and a third group buries themselves in sensual escape. You can’t blame anyone, really–we were all ready to blow, and someone or some thing came along and made it happen.

We may suffer a molten combination of stress, expectations, and accumulated hurt. We just want to do something to feel better, to alleviate tension, and what we get instead is our inventory taken–and whether that’s by an individual or the world at large, it probably strikes us as 1) inevitable, and 2) unfair. What’s the real issue? We’ve failed to keep careful track of the reality picture, and worse, we’ve failed to maintain reasonable boundaries. All that hot trouble has seeped under our defenses, come in through the keyholes and cracks, and now, in typical Virgoan fashion, it comes as a scalding critique.

Don’t worry; the sources of our discomfort exist under their own stressful conditions–and in truth, we may be playing the same role of inquisitor for someone else. It’s the circle of life, kids–we all take our turn in the cauldron.

The Sabian for this Full Moon is, ‘In A Portrait, The Significant Features Of A Man’s Head Are Artistically Emphasized’. I think this tells us that Full Moon events, rather than being an injustice, will actually be showing us a representation of ourselves, with some features emphasized so that we get the message. We should look at the Sun’s Sabian, as well, since it’s the source of our Lunar light in the first place. ‘In A Crowded Marketplace Farmers And Middlemen Display A Great Variety Of Products’. This suggests to me that the cause of our Full Moon experience was triggered by our own attempts to ‘sell’ something about ourselves to another–and that triggered the assessment shared by others that allows us, in the typical generous way of the Universe, to see ourselves in a different light, if not, indeed, in the exact way others sometimes see us.

So what’s the goal of all this? Maybe it’s found in the quincunx the Full Moon makes to Chiron, freshly back in Aries and informing us loud and clear about our responsibility and leadership issues. This is the closest aspect the Full Moon makes, and may suggest that what we really need to go forward is to adjust our sensitivity levels, to let go of as many hurts as we can around the ‘I Am’. Our personal Chiron effect as it left Pisces may have been that we accidentally slogged along with us perceptions of Collective injury (the eco-system and the cries of a dying planet, oppressive and non-representative politics, unnecessary scarcities as the well-off withhold) generating stress as we mistake them for personal inadequacies and shortcomings of ourselves or others–and with the Full Moon we look at the world and demand, ‘Do something about that!’ Not the way to approach it, but we’ll find out soon enough.

And, we live and learn.

22 December 2018 Full Moon in Cancer: Beacon in the Dark

‘Vuurtoren in de branding’ By Hendrik Willem Mesdag c1885 {{PD}}

This Full Moon in Cancer (22 December 9:48 AM PST at 00 Cancer 49) follows on the heels of the solstice (21 December 2:23 PM Pacific time–winter in the Northern hemisphere/ summer in the Southern hemisphere). For we northerners, the closeness of the two events makes the revelations and conclusions of the Full Moon a kind of beacon in the dark, both literally and figuratively, as Luna lights the way out of the longest night of the year, at least here in North America.

The Full Moon is apex to a Fist of God with base of Venus-Ceres square Black Moon Lilith, out-of-element sextile Uranus, T-square with close Chiron-Hygeia conjunction, novile to Juno. Always, a Full Moon brings an ending, a culmination, a conclusion, and this can signal a definite end or can usher in a new stage, or an entirely new beginning. In Cancer these endings carry a heavier-than-usual emotional component, a sensitivity to the import of what’s concluding, and intimations through the feeling nature as to what’s beginning. Emotional conclusions are reached and intuitive information received; that is, we realize with surety how our feelings resolve on some subject related to the House (or across the axis) in the natal chart in which the FM occurs. This resolution may come consciously (more likely if the FM falls above the horizon in the natal chart) or through the unconscious ‘assembly’ of information learned and intuited, presented to the conscious mind as it coheres into a relevant picture under the Full Moon’s light. It’s a ‘just dawning on us’ event, so to speak, represented by the very early sign degree in which the culmination occurs.

The aspects for this Lunar event suggest that what arises is conflict, stress, or tension that once expressed creates a more healthy atmosphere, leading to a new, unanticipated level of empowerment or a rise in or change of status. The challenge will be to stay true to our best Self even as we deal with what may be a messy situation; with Black Moon Lilith involved we may have to face what we’d rather ignore or suppress, what we may feel ashamed of or guilty about (though as we know, those are distortions, re-directions of anger as we avoid sending it to the appropriate target), and we may be required to deal with matters that enrage us, making things even more difficult.

There is also a matter of conflict among authorities, with authorities, or over who holds authority and so who holds the reins to assets. We may only observe this authority-centered upset, or we may find it angers us in the way it threatens to wrest agency from us or those we love. Know that misdirection of energy is a real possibility, and that inappropriate anger and overstepping of boundaries are the avenues of least resistance–and knowing that you can take a step back from the fray, receiving or causing no harm.

But, there’s a promise of healing, once we’ve located what or whom we care about, what needs our nurture, or what may offer nurture to us (Cancer), and caring mobilizes skills, especially the ones that only we can wield in just that particular, individual way we have. The key is twofold: pinpoint our feelings, and see where they can and should be ‘applied’, and be fearless in meeting, dealing with, and then letting go of whatever conflict transpires. Take care not to confuse the order of this–it doesn’t do anyone any good to fight first, then figure out what they want! This scenario probably won’t unfold in an easily palatable way, but will serve the cause of necessary emotional processing that supports both our health and our unique expression and empowerment.

The Sabian Symbol for this Full Moon is, ‘On A Ship The Sailors Lower An Old Flag And Raise A New One’. This may be a change of signal flag–letting others know changes in our intents or destination–or a complete change of authority, the new flag showing who is now ‘running the ship’. In any case, it’s a symbol of communicating identity, which is something we do quite naturally when we set priorities (identify what we care about) and then speak up in defense of or in dealing with what comes before us (with our Self-image shaping the forms and character of our assertions).

We also look at the Sun’s Sabian, as it’s the source of the light play that gives us the Full Moon event in the first place: ‘An Indian Chief Claims Power From The Assembled Tribe’. In this Full Moon’s aspects we have seen a recurring thread concerning individual authority; this symbol suggests that what generates the conflict, the expression, and the eventual healing, all stem from issues surrounding who holds the reins, who should hold the reins, and these may be best determined by who is supported by the group–but then again, the upheaval may come from the fact that this is tribal thinking–and if there’s anything we know at this point, it’s that blind tribalism is positively the most destructive way of organizing our priorities and our lives.

This Full Moon offers a beacon in the darkness of tribalism, help in sorting out the competition for authority, and shines a light on both our duty to use our skills and the ways in which we can access healing and enhance overall health.

22 November 2018 Full Moon in Gemini: This Beginning

‘The Nickel Belt’ By Franklin Carmichael 1928 {{PD}}

The Full Moon falls at 00 Gemini 52 at 9:39 PM PST on the 22nd. Though under other circumstances we might consider it conjoined Sedna, it’s past contact, and may better represent where we’re coming from: the subliminally loaded atmosphere that preceded the Full Moon ‘wake up’ in a retro Mercury ruled Gemini. The FM is opposed Jupiter and in wide square to Mars (in effect forming a T-square), in wide sextile to Chiron and wide trine to the South Node. (When I specify ‘wide’ for an aspect, I’m speaking relatively, considering the event requires fairly close contact, and the strength of the aspect itself affects just how much of a range to consider.)

A Full Moon delivers something to us, completed, perfected, an ending, conclusion, or denouement that, in this case, sparks the germ of some brand new idea. So very early in Gemini, the FM says, ‘From that ending comes this beginning.’ What flickers may be dim, held somewhere in the back of consciousness, or may seem to face insurmountable facts or beliefs (Jupiter opp) or may contradict (the square) our own Will, choices, or actions (Mars), but will be both healing (Chiron) and bring forward useful facets of the past (SN)–and that should reassure us that what begins here, much as the ego may fight it, is really a good thing. Whatever it calls us to do, change, or be, whatever the suggestion put forward by the Lunar light, it will be a big deal, if not now, then when it finally grows from germ to bud, which may be the point when you see why this idea, thought, or communication (Gemini) matters so much.

The Sabian for the Full Moon in Gemini is, ‘A Glass-Bottomed Boat Reveals Undersea Wonders’. What’s conveyed (the symbol of the boat as conveyance) is clear to us, if we’ll only look down (the SN past). Viewed through the lens of emotions (the water) we begin to understand something that was hidden to us (undersea), before now. It’s this understand that sparks the new idea in the mind, the one that finds its origins at this point in the Lunar cycle.

We also look at the source of the light for a Full Moon; the Sabian for the Sun is, ‘Retired Army Veterans Gather To Reawaken Old Memories’. This image emphasizes the importance of the past, reawakened to inform the Now, and possibly points to the way we may need, in this particular instance, to ‘retire’ the Warrior spirit of Mars, if only so that we can have an inner quiet that allows the new idea to grow. We must look at what from the past has survived the conflict (the war that made them veterans), and what it can tell us about healing in the present, or even about how best to interact with social influences (Jupiter), especially those we have resisted (FM opposition/ conj Sun).

Look carefully at these children. Jacek Malczewski 1896 {{PD}}

If you celebrate Thanksgiving at this time, I wish you a wonderful holiday–and for everyone else, a wonderful week! I’ll be taking a bit of time off from the Daily posts, but will return before you know it 🙂

Full Moon in Taurus 24 October 2018 Chaos Theory

‘Moonrise’ By Béla Iványi-Grünwald 1897 {{PD}}

You’d think that with a Full Moon in Taurus, serenity would be on the agenda, a mild, calming, soothing interlude of sensory indulgence or outright peace–but it’s not. 9:45 AM PDT of the 24th the Moon perfects opposition to the Sun/ conjunction to the Earth at 1 Taurus 13, just after conjoining Uranus–and there’s our disorder, excitement, chaos culprit. Something preceding the Full Moon throws us for a loop, into a tizzy, or turns our world upside down; at the very least we are subjected to the uncontrollable, the shocking, or to the Will of the group. The emotional reveal, the ending, climax, or denouement that follows with culmination shows us either the emotional impact of material changes, or prompts material changes that then exert an emotional impact–and these may or may not follow directly from the preceding events–there’s the chance that the two may be unconnected, except for the one-two punch they convey.

Even at the height of the pre-Full Moon chaos, we’ll have the ability to ‘read’ the material world (FM wide trine to Saturn); the only question is, will we be willing to see what’s evident before us? Believe your eyes; believe solid changes or the current state of things, rather than any spin offered by others.

The opposition to Venus conjoined the origin of the light that creates the Full Moon in the first place (the Sun) suggests that mysteries surrounding, or secrets revealed concerning relationships, values, and/ or financial considerations are the well(s) from which that chaotic tension springs, probably via the review and reassessment going on due to the retrograde–and a semi-square of the Full Moon to Neptune implies delusion or inability to focus on that original material as being relevant, or in a best-case scenario says that difficulties spark creative or imaginative responses.

By Scotto Bear from North Beach, MD, USA Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 2.0 Generic

With the Sun and Nodal axis coupled with the Full Moon event we get the dynamism of a Grand Cross, suggesting the Lunar energy has a ‘many outlets at once’ character. It may feel like events right now have a lot of moving parts, and they do, so don’t expect yourself to keep on top of all of them–right now it’s all about feeling, and seeing the reality of things (that Saturn influence, plus the way the senses and material surroundings will ‘pop’–the Taurus influence).

‘Perfume’ By Fujishima Takeji 1915 {{PD}}

The Full Moon Sabian symbol is, ‘An Electrical Storm’, perfectly reflecting the shock, potential chaos, the electrifying effect of the emotional responses to events. The symbol for the Sun, light-giver to the event, is, ‘A Delicate Bottle Of Perfume Lies Broken, Releasing Its Fragrance’. This image suggests that despite any destruction or upset (broken bottle), something beautiful arises from it that fills the air. What happens may carry the aura of trauma, sudden change, or loss, but the atmosphere itself becomes permeated, benefits from, is enhanced by, what results.

Usually I don’t discuss other events concurrent with a New or Full Moon, as they won’t impact the overall Lunar picture, though sometimes they are in play in such a way that they augment or provide background to the event. This time I think it’s worth noting that there’s a Mystic Rectangle in play: Pallas in Virgo, Jupiter in Scorpio, Chiron in Pisces, and Juno-Sedna in Taurus. These are either subtle energies (asteroids) or moving through a sign of mystery and nuance (Scorpio)–and that implies a stealthy effect here, the potential for fortuitous convergence of energies that happens right under our noses, but not necessarily on our radar.

The components of the Mystic Rectangle offer smart critical thinking (Pallas), the revealing of opportunity (Jupiter), inspiration or healing by tapping into what connects us to the Collective (Chiron), and autonomy lead by instinct (Juno-Sedna). This may reveal itself in some as confidence, in others as grasping an opportunity at just the right moment, and in still others sees them step into a social role well-timed. For some this won’t be accessed–such is the nature of more subtle energies, and certainly, one must be ‘on the move’ in some sense, or have something ‘cooking’, to take advantage of this–it won’t deliver good fortune without well-thought-out individual initiative.

Thank you to All, and enjoy your Full Moon experience!
